CORA BRYAN
ADA — Graveside services for Cora Thompson Bryan, 87, Ada are 1 p.m. Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery, Dr. Roberto Escamilla officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 5-7 at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Bryan died Oct. 6, 2005, at a local hospital. She was born March 1, 1918, at Jesse, to George Bethel and Sarah Alice Moran Thompson. She attended school at Jesse, Stonewall and Ada, and graduated from Ada High School. She graduated from East Central University with a music degree. She was a longtime active member of First United Methodist Church, sang in the choir for many years, and was a member of the Mr. and Mrs. Sunday School class for many years. She was also a member of Oak Hill Women’s Golf Association, Wednesday Morning Music Club and Full Moon Dinner Club.

She married Joe R. Bryan Nov. 24, 1939. He preceded her in death July 15, 1999.

Survivors include two sons, Joe Thompson Bryan, LaMarque, Texas, and James A. “Jim” Bryan, Jackson, Miss.; a daughter, Beverly Jordan, Shawnee; a sister, Vivian E. Cronin, Edmond; six grandchildren, Joseph Bryan Jordan, William Daniel Jordan, Leslie Adkins, Jill Barter, Christ Bryan and J. Kyle Bryan; and nine great-grandchildren.

Bearers are Lee Daggs; her grandsons; and grandsons-in-law.

Honorary bearers are Ted Savage, Dr. Don Williams, Hicks Smith, Frank Dicus, Dr. Stanley Wagner, Marcus Griffin and Lee Ross.

ELLA HISAW
ADA — Graveside services for Ella “Dink” Hisaw, 95, Ada, are 2 p.m. Monday at Rosedale Cemetery, the Rev. Joe Dixon officiating.

Mrs. Hisaw died Oct. 6, 2005, at a local hospital. She was born July 18, 1910, at Franks, to John and Bina Underwood Owens.

She married Benjamin Franklin Hisaw Oct. 24, 1934, at Stonewall. He died Oct. 26, 1985, at Ada. Mrs. Hisaw was a homemaker and a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three grandchildren; three brothers; one sister; and one great-grandchild.

Survivors include three sons, Bill Underwood, Lewisville, Texas, Delbert Hisaw, Ada, and Joe Hisaw, Konawa; four daughters, Betty Phillips, Konawa, Faye Miller, Ina Grant and Judy Hisaw, all of Ada; three brothers, Johnny Buck Owens, Frank Owens, both of Ada, and Benny Owens, Tupelo; 24 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren.

LANE GIFFORD
ADA — Services for Joe Lane Gifford Jr., 50, Ada, are 2
p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, the Rev. Barry Worcester officiating. Burial follows at Rosedale Cemetery.

Mr. Gifford died Oct. 7, 2005, at a Ft. Smith, Ark. hospital. He was born April 15, 1955, at Ada, to Joe Lane and Anna Lee Roberts Gifford Sr. He lived in Ada all his life, attended Willard Grade School and graduated from Ada High School in 1973. He attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated from East Central University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He was president of Gifford Monument, Ada. Mr. Gifford was a certified memorialist, a member of the Monument Builders of North America, past president of Monument Builders Mid-America, a member of American Institute of Commemorative Art, a past member of the Ada Chamber Board, and a member of the Ada Lions Club. He was also a member of First Christian Church, Ada.

He married Debi McGalliard June 11, 1976, at Ada.

Survivors include his wife, Debi Gifford, of the home; two daughters, Brittany Beth Gifford, Plano, Texas, and Amy Elane Gifford, Norman; his parents, Joe Lane and Anna Lee Gifford, Ada; and numerous friends and family.

Bearers are Jack Lambert, John Durrett, Cliff Randall, Lynn Perry, Harry Smith and Perry Giles. Honorary bearers are Joe Presley, Ken Maxwell, Bill Thompson, Tom Runnells, Mark Landrith, Tommy Mayhue, Mike Duncan, Lyndon Sutton, David Ellis, Jim Sanders, Randy Harp, Don Carpenter, Harry Turner and Phil Akin.

NORA THOMASON

ARDMORE — Services for Nora A. Thomason, 93, Ardmore, are 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church, the Rev. Ken McIntire officiating. Burial follows at Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation is tonight from 6-8 at Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.

Mrs. Thomason died Oct. 5, 2005, at Ardmore. She was born May 18, 1912, at Farmersville, Texas, to Joseph Lee and William Ann Price Webb. She married Harber Newman Thomason Nov. 27, 1937, at Celeste, Texas. He preceded her in death in 1964.

Mrs. Thomason lived in the Ardmore area since 1937, after having moved from Farmersville. She worked for many years as a cook at Ardmore Public Schools and also at several nursing facilities. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Newman and Mark Thomason; a daughter, Barbara Besherse; three brothers, Granvil, Price and Von Ray Webb; and three sisters, Verner McCloud, Lottie DeMent and Francis Mosley.

Survivors include four sons, Thurman Thomason and wife Judy, Ardmore, David Thomason and wife Peggy, Lone Grove, Don Ray Thomason and wife Betty Jo and Paul Lynn Thomason, McLloud; three daughters, Vida Sue Besherse and husband Frank, Lone Grove, Joanna Smathers and husband Fern, Baton Rouge, La., and Mary Lanier and husband Floyce, Ada; a daughter-in-law, Charlene Fox, Port Lavaca, Texas; a brother, David Webb and wife Lois, Davis; a sister, Bernice Kent and husband Aubria, Pampa, Texas; three sisters-in-law, Carol Crites, Roy, Utah, Jo Webb, Lockney, Texas, and Owanna DeMent, Sherman, Texas; 29 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Todd Brown.

Bearers are her grandsons.

The family says that memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

STRATFORD — Memorial Services for Devonna Gail Haley, 48, Stratford, are 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Criswell Funeral Home, Toby Ross officiating.

Ms. Haley died Oct. 5, 2005, south of Tecumseh. She was born Oct. 8, 1956, at Jacksonville, Tenn., to Monte and Ophelia Cotham Smalley. She attended school at Ada and lived in the Ada area most of her life. She moved to Stratford six months ago.

Survivors include a daughter, Kelsie Dean and husband Paul, Oklahoma City; her father, Monte Smalley Sr., Ada; her mother, Ophelia Walker, Virginia; a brother, Monte Dale Smalley Jr.; a grandson, Connor White; a granddaughter, Shane White; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Tony, Bianca, Callie and Kannon; and numerous other relatives.

LULA — Services for Bobby Joe Sweat, 78, Lula, are 2 p.m. Saturday at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Kendell Martin, Alfred Murr and Ernest Lee Sweat officiating. Burial follows at Lula Cemetery.

Mr. Sweat died Oct. 6, 2005, at his home. He was born Oct. 16, 1926, near Ada, to Buck and Elizabeth Woods Sweat. He attended schools at Lula and Lone Oak and graduated from Lula High School.

He married Mary Maxine Clifford Aug. 5, 1992. Mr. Sweat was employed with Kerr-McGee at Pampa, Texas. He was later employed by Trend Engineering, until his retirement. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, Leroy Sweat, Vernon Sweat, Hugh Sweat, Knox Sweat, Buck Sweat Jr. and James Lloyd Sweat; and a sister, Doris June Harden.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine Sweat, of the home; one son, Dewey Craig Sweat and wife Kathi, Tyler, Texas; a daughter, Cindy Sweat Martin and husband Kendell, Jesse; a stepson, Ricky Thompson and wife Trina, Allen; a stepdaughter, Debbie Herndon and husband Derek, Lake View, Ore.; three grandsons; seven stepgranddaughters, including Cetieva and Patience Thompson, of the home; three stepgrandsons; two sisters, Marcine Johnston and Nell Wofford, both of Lula.

Bearers are his grandsons, Micah Martin and Wesley Sweat, and Darrell Lackey, Alvin Boan, Donald Brooks and Ernest Lee Sweat.

Honorary bearers are Lester Kymes, Vestel Cole, Benny Allison, James Briggs, James Oliver, Henry Young, J. O. Kirby, Elmo Fulton, Lyndal Alcorn, Bill Brady and Hollis Kite.

STONEWALL — Services for Gilford Ray “Frog” Turpin, 64, Stonewall, are 2 p.m. Friday at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Don Hoover officiating. Burial follows at Highland Cemetery, Stonewall. Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. today at Criswell Funeral Home.

Mr. Turpin died Oct. 3, 2005, at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was born Dec. 13, 1940, at Ada, to O. D. and Cecil Votaw Turpin. He lived in the Tupelo and Stonewall areas all his life and graduated from Tupelo High School in 1959.

He married Mary Williams July 10, 1970, at Allen. Mr. Turpin was a rancher, an oilfield pumper and was employed with Brockway Glass Company for 28 years. He served in the U. S. Army from 1959 until 1963.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Charlene Turpin, in 1973.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Turpin, of the home; a daughter, Amy Bolen and husband Victor, Stonewall; a son, Mitch Turpin and wife Rachel, Ada; two grandsons, Blayke Bolen and Kaden Turpin; three sisters, Barbara Prince, Holdenville, LaVelle Hill and husband David Ray, Ada, and Sherry Stonecipher, Savanna, Okla.; and several other relatives.

Bearers are Herbert Sanders, Charles Glover, Glenn McDonald, Gary Woodard, Mark Hill and Rex Gammons.

Honorary bearers are Louie McDonald, Jack Sanders, Leonard Daniel, Floyd Underhill, Robert McDonald and Jack Chapman.

DUB BALLARD

ADA — Services for W. A. “Dub” Ballard, 83, Ada, are 10 a.m. Saturday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Delbert Akin officiating. Burial follows at Memorial Park Cemetery. Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery.

Mr. Ballard died Oct. 5, 2005, at his home. He was born July 15, 1922, at Chism, Okla., to William Andrew and Cora Delorah Dickson Ballard. He attended school at Galey and Vanoss.

He married Melvina Gardner April 9, 1943. Mr. Ballard was the former owner of service stations in Ada, served with the Ada Police Department, and also owned Johnson Transfer and Storage. He served in the U. S. Army from 1942 until 1945 with the 83rd infantry division of medical corps. in Germany. He was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Gwendolyn Sorrels; and a sister, LaVera Wood.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Melvina Ballard, of the home; one son, Garry Lynn Ballard, Ada; two daughters, Wilma Hatton, Seminole, and Martha Jordan, Hopkinsville, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Bearers are Robin Horton Robleto, Rachael Howard, Cindy Reeves, Gary Leslie, Paul Reeves and Rickey Horton.

Honorary bearers will be Matthew Hatton, Chandler Williams and “Mick” Jagger Williams.
