Kirk Merrell

EDMOND – Funeral services for Seminole native Kirk Merrell are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Baggerly Funeral Home. Rev. Charles Garrett is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Prairie View Cemetery in Macomb under the direction of Baggerly Funeral Home. Merrell died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002 at Mercy Hospital at the age of 40. He was born Oct. 16, 1961 in Seminole to Conrad Dewitt and Carolee Summers Merrell. He graduated from Seminole High School in 1980. Merrell then attended Oklahoma State University Technical School. He married LeeAnn Williams on June 22, 1991 and lived in Edmond since that time. He attended Heritage Presbyterian Church in Edmond. Merrell spent many years working car sales, before working in his own home improvement and remodeling service, Kaptain Home Improvement. He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents. He is survived by his wife of the home; his mother of Seminole; one brother, Brett Merrell of Oklahoma City; and one sister, deShawn Merrell of Texarkana, Texas.

Janie Bevelhymer

Funeral services for Janie Lynn Bevelhymer are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Wewoka. Burial is to follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout Funeral Home. Bevelhymer died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002 at her home at the age of 51. She was born Feb. 2, 1950 in Odessa, Texas to L.C. “Pete” and Betty (Burris) Fowler. She married Jake Bevelhymer on Sept. 28, 1968 in Wewoka. Bevelhymer attended the Assembly of God. She is survived by her husband of the home; one daughter, Kelli Davis of Ada; one son, Russell Bevelhymer of Dallas, Texas; her parents of Seminole; and three grandchildren.

Dempsey ‘Pud’ Kellum

Funeral services for Dempsey “Pud” Kellum are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Chapel. Rev. Mitch Williams is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Konawa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home. Kellum died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002 at Valley View Regional Hospital in Ada at the age of 81. He was born Feb. 4, 1920 west of Konawa to B.K. “Babe” and Ada (Chandler) Kellum. He was a farmer. Kellum was a member of the United States Army Infantry and was wounded in action during the Asia-Pacific Theatre. He received the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He was a member of the Baptist faith and the Disabled American Veterans. Kellum was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by three sisters, Lena Simpson of Ada, Wilma Whittenburh of Lamont, Ill, and Jerlean Wolfe of Quartzsite, Ariz.

Stella ‘Pumpkin’ Bush

Graveside funeral services for Seminole resident Stella “Pumpkin” Bush are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee. Rev. Carl Whitfield is set to officiate. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Bush died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002 at Seminole Estates Nursing Center at the age of 79. She was born Oct. 19, 1922 in Shawnee to Wesley William and Bernice (Nelson) Dougless. She married Rex McDonald Bush on Feb. 6, 1946 in Eureka Springs, Ark. Bush was a homemaker and a member of the Seminole Elks Lodge and the American Legion. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, on Aug. 5, 1999; two sisters and one daughter. She is survived by two granddaughters, Paula Davis Dommert and Tracy Davis Melton; five great-grandchildren; and one special nephew, W.E. Woodward of Miami.

Mary Atkinson

Funeral services for Mary Alice (Grigg) Knight Atkinson are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the First Assembly of God Church in Seminole. Rev. Doyle Long is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Mary died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002 at her home in Seminole at the age of 95. She was born Feb. 26, 1906 in Kingston, Ark. to John David and Sara Roseann (Bowen) Grigg. She married her first husband, John Knight on Dev. 23, 1935. He preceded Mary in death in June of 1959. She married her second husband, Joe Reynolds in 1971. He preceded her in death in 1976. Mary married her third husband, Jim Atkinson in 1977. He preceded her in death in 1980. She was a farming and food service worker before retiring in 1962. Mary was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands; one daughter, Shirley Fitterolf; one son, Ervin Knight; one granddaughter, Marilyn Ridley; two sisters; and nine brothers. She is survived by three sons, Jake Knight of Seminole, Joe Knight of Buckeye, Ariz., and Johnnie Knight of Royce City, Texas; two daughters, Delores Jarvie of Prescott Valley, Ariz. and Dora McKinney of Seminole; one sister, Marie Houck of Broken Arrow; 14 grandchildren, Wanda Conner and Terry Longest, both of Seminole, Rodney Longest of Muskogee, Mart Longest and JoAnn Latham, both of Phoenix, Ariz., Gina Simar of Santa Maria, Calif, Joel and Earl Knight of Buckeye, Ariz., Felice Garner of Louisiana, Melissa and Judd Knight of Greenville, Texas, Gwen Fisk of Grover City, Calif., Joe Ridley of California, and Sam Ridley of Florida; 26 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; and her granddaughter-in-law and caregiver, Eloise Longest. Great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Burnes Edwards

PAWNEE – Funeral services for former Seminole resident Burnes Webster Edwards were scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Assembly of God Church in Pawnee. Rev. James Eubanks was to officiate. Burial was to follow at Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Poteet Funeral Home. Edwards died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002 in Tulsa at the age of 78. She was born Feb. 12, 1923 in Meeker to Keith R. and Irene “Rosie” (Goss) Sorrell. She married Clyde Webster on April 20, 1944 in Oklahoma City. He preceded Edwards in death on Aug. 11, 1972. She then married Johnny Ed- wards on Oct. 31, 1976 in Cleveland. He preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 1987. Edwards was a member of the First Assembly of God Church of Pawnee. She attended the Tulsa Community College last year. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and one great-grandchild. Edwards is survived by five daughters, Sharon Wright and Jane Hostutler, both of Cleveland, Beverly Wilson of Pawnee, Linda Smith of Benton City, Wash., and Brenda Thomas of Union City; two sons, Ricky and Randy Edwards, both of Pawnee; 21 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jessie Holder of Pauls Valley.

Jessie Boyd

WEWOKA – Memorial services for Jessie D. Boyd are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the Stout Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Mike Kirby is set to officiate. Services are under the direction of Stout Funeral Home. Boyd died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002 at the age of 80. He was born Dec. 27, 1921 in Hulbert to Jess and Maude (Martin) Boyd. He was raised in the Hulbert and Wagoner area and attended school in Hulbert. He married Joycette (Degg) Boyd on June 18, 1976 in Denton, Texas. Boyd enlisted in the United States Army on Feb. 14, 1941. He served in World War II and the Korean Conflict before retiring May 8, 1964 after 23 years of service. He later moved from Del City to Wewoka in 1977. Boyd is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Madeline Willis and Carmen Seratt; and three brothers, Jack, Joe, and John Boyd. He is survived by his wife of the home; two sisters, Ophelia Peters of Tulsa and Cloie Rhodes of Sacramento, Calif.; four daughters, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers are the V.F.W. post #1311.

Dollie Faulkner

SULPHUR SPRINGS, TEXAS – Funeral services for Wewoka resident Dollie Faulkner were scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Chapel. Rev. Julie Halstead was set to officiate. Burial was to follow at City Cemetery under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home. Faulkner died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002 at Heritage Village Nursing Home in Holdenville at the age of 80. She was born April 20, 1921 in Arbala, Texas to Benjamin and Ethel Gray Wood. She married R.B. Crowson Jr. in Hopkins County, Texas on Aug. 21, 1938. Faulkner then married Sybil “Pete” Faulkner in 1978. She was a retired licensed vocational nurse at Hopkins Count Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. Faulkner was preceded in death by both husbands, two sisters, two brothers, and twin sons, Harold and Darold Crowson. She is survived by three sons, Dr. Glenn A. Crowson of Wewoka; Richard Crowson of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Lawrence Crowson of Hopkins, S. C.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

William Lunebring

A graveside memorial service for Cromwell resident William Gert Lunebring was scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Little Cemetery. Rev. Carl Whitfield was set to officiate. Services were under the direc tion of Swearingen Funeral Home. Lunebring died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002 in Wewoka at the age of 87. He was born June 8, 1914 in Santa Maria, Calif. to Henrich and Mathilda (Weidemeir) Lunebring. He married June Lunebring on Oct. 21, 2001. Lunebring retired from McDonald-Couglas Aircraft in Lakewood, La. In 1969. He was preceded in death by his parent and his first wife, Vergie (Swader) Lunebring in 1962. He is survived by his wife of the home and two grandchildren.

Raymond Johnson

Funeral services for Raymond Johnson are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Stout Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Homer Emarthle and Elmer Kelly Tiger are set to officiate. Wake services are planned for 6 p.m. tonight at Stout Funeral Home Chapel. Interment is to follow at the Harjo family cemetery under the direction of Stout Funeral Home. Johnson died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002 at the age of 79. He was born April 6, 1922 in Limestone to Charles and Elise (McGirt) Johnson. He was raised in the Seminole area and attended school at Limestone. Johnson married Mary Green in August of 1948. He enlisted in the United State Army on Nov. 24, 1942 and was discharged on March 8, 1946. He was a member of Cold Springs Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. Johnson was also a member of the Newcomer Band where he served as Past Chairman and Council Band Representative. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; three sisters, Sarah Watson, Stella Factor and Samaria Johnson; and one brother, Edger Johnson. He is survived by two daugh- ters, Samaria C. Harjo of Seminole and Judy K. Little of Wewoka; one son, Ronald C. Johnson of Seminole; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are Greg Robinson, Brandon Johnson, Eastman Factor, Frank Sewell, Charles Sewell and Nolan Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are Kendal Roberts, Russell Roberts, Ronny Thorpe, Edwin Thorpe, David Johnson, George Thorpe, David Little, and Tony Roberts.

William Azlin

Funeral services for Bowlegs native Williams Azlin are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Crossroads Cathedral. Dr. Dan Sheaffer is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Vondel Smith & Son Mortuary. Azlin died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002 at the age of 77. He was born May 23, 1924 in Bowlegs to William Lem and Cleo Jane (Little) Azlin. He served during World War II on the U.S.S. Mississippi. Azlin worked for LeeWay Freight Motors as a diesel mechanic for a number of years. He attended Crossroads Cathedral. He is survived by his wife, Gussie of home; two sons, David of Edmond and Geary of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Jane Weston of Moore and Deborah Boswell of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Essie Dees of Shawnee and Ann Robins, El Rita, Phyllis Rowe and Sandy Azlin, all of Bristow.

Beatrice Hubbard

Funeral services for lifetime Lima resident Beatrice Brown Hubbard are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Rev. George Young of Holy Temple Baptist Church of Oklahoma City is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Lima Cemetery under the direction of Myers Mortuary. Hubbard died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002 at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. She was born Feb. 11, 1912 to Rector and Ida Brown. She graduated from Douglass High School in Wewoka in 1931. Hubbard married William W. Hubbard in June of 1931. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband and one daughter, Edna. Hubbard is survived by four sons, Kenneth Hubbard of San Diego, Calif., James Hubbard of National City, Calif., Alfred Hubbard of Washington, D.C., and Ural Hubbard of Colorado Springs, Colo.; seven daughters, Lois Broussard of Rockville, Md., Jean Wright of Seminole, Glynn Gantt of Wichita, Kan., Vera Jones of Temple Hills, Md., Ida Wright of Bowie, Md., and Hope Hayes and Faye Jones, both of Clinton, Md.; two brothers, Earnest and Bernard Brown, both of Ventura, Calif.; 29 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Paul Dunsmore Sr.

A private family burial is scheduled for Seminole resident Paul Thomas Dunsmore Sr. The service is under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Dunsmore died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002 at Veteran’s Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born Aug. 7, 1924 to Frank Benton Dunsmore Sr. and Ollie Mae (Paul) Dunsmore. From 1957 until 1971 he owned and operated the Kozey Courts Motel in Electra, Texas. Dunsmore was a driller for City Service Oil. Co. of Bartlesville. He then did carpentry work until he retired in the late 1980’s. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps. During World War II, Dunsmore served in Aukland, New Zealand; Guadalcanal, British Somalian Islands; Bouganville, British Somalian Islands; Guam, Mariana Islands, and Pearl Harbor. He was involved in landing and the capture of the enemy that held the Island of Guam. He received a Purple Heart Medal. Dunsmore was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. He is survived by one son, Paul Thomas Dunsmore Jr. of New York City, N.Y.; two daughters, Karen Mullen of Electra, Texas and Doris Armentrout of Texas; two brothers, Frank B. Dunmore Jr. of Shawnee and Jack Dunsmore of Mertyle Creek, Ore.; two sisters, Ellas Harrison of Ft. Smith, Ark. and Elma Hargus of Richardson, Texas; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Lee Armstead

Funeral services for Lee Armstead are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Swearingen Funeral Chapel. Rev. Roger Harris is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Earlsboro Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Armstead died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002 at Mission Hill Hospital in Shawnee at the age of 78. He was born Dec. 4, 1923 in Harjo to Pat and Susie (Rivers) Armstead. He worked at North Island Naval Base in San Diego, Calif. building ships. Armstead retired in the late 70’s. He served in the army during World War II and was a Second Class Gunner and received the World War II Victory Medal. He attended school at Hotulka and Earlsboro. Armstead was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Porsha Armstead; three brothers, Nathan, Henry and Ole Armstead; and two sisters, Alberta Armstead and Lucille Armstead Doil. He is survived by one son, Clayton Lee Armstead of Earlsboro; one daughter, Wanda Jean Armstead of Shawnee; 26 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
