David McKinney

Funeral services for Seminole resident David Henry McKinney are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Historic Strothers Chapel. Dr. James Sills is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direc tion of Swearingen Funeral Home. McKinney died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003 at Unity Health Center North in Shawnee at the age of 77. He had been a Seminole resident since 1986. He was born July 4, 1925 in Irdell, Texas to George A. and Bessie (Cook) McKinney. McKinney married Dora V. McKinney. She survives him of the home. He was an electrical contractor in North Carolina. He was a veteran of the United States Army. McKinney was a 32 degree Mason in Seminole City Lodge #476 and Scottish Rite in McAlester. He was a member of First Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Martha Hendrix. McKin is also survived by one son, David E. McKinney of Kingston; one sister, Bobbie Jones; two stepsons, Bart and Fred Walker; one stepdaughter, Rae; three granddaughters and several great-grandchildren.

William Morris Jr.

TUSTIN, CALIF. - Word has been received of the death of Seminole native William Ira Morris Jr. He was to be buried at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif. Morris died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003 at the age of 61. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War as a code breaker. After he left the military, he worked in the electrical field for nearly 40 years. Morris is survived by his wife, Charlotte; two daughters, Kimberly Velazquez of Tustin, Calif. and Sherri Morris of Seattle, Wash.; and a sister, Joyce Yerby of Stillwater.

Marion McDaniel

A memorial service for Wewoka resident Marion Kay McDaniel is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Seventh Day Adventist. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. McDaniel died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 at her home at the age of 51. She was born May 20, 1951 in Seminole to Desmond and Thelma (Lee) Ross. She was a longtime Seminole and Wewoka resident. McDaniel was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother; and a son, Tyler Eugene Stewart. She is survived by her companion, Philip Ray Stewart of the home; two sons, Philip Ray Stewart Jr. and Scott Stewart, both of the home; two daughters, Tracy (McDaniel) Creger and Shelly (McDaniel) Robinson, both of Oklahoma City; six sisters, Carolyn Houck and Janis Villarma, both of Earlsboro, Joyce Ross, Barbara Orr, and Joan Morris, all of Seminole, and Pat Carter of Konawa; and two grandchildren.

Alma Mullinax

No services are planned for longtime Wewoka resident Alma Joyce Mullinax. Burial is to be in Holdenville. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Mullinax died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003 at Wewoka Nursing Center at the age of 75. She was born Aug. 7, 1927 in Okemah to Richard and Lillie (Lawrence) Edmunds. She married Lonnie Joe Mullinax on June 12, 1949 in Holdenville. He preceded her in death on June 19, 2002. Mullinax worked in home daycare. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. She is survived by one son, Larry Mullinax of Norman; one daughter, Linda O’Donnell of Bixby; two brothers, Wayne Edmunds of Big Cabin and Doyle Edmunds of Hollister; one sister, Vera DeShazer of Richardson, Texas; and three grandchildren.

Bill Davis

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Bill Louis Davis are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church. Dr. Kelvin Moseley is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Davis died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2003 at his home at the age of 74. He was born Jan. 14, 1928 in Seminole to Louis E. and Wilma (Taylor) Davis. He married Donna Irene (Hause) on Sept. 11, 1952 in Seminole. Davis retired from Melco Production in 1990. He also worked 21 years for Electrolux Corporation. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he was a Seaman 2nd Class. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Brian K. Davis; and one sister, Odelle Works. Davis is survived by his wife, Donna Davis of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Mary H. Davis of Addison, Texas; his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa D. and Bill C. Campbell of Seminole; his daughter-in-law, Kathy Davis of Arlington, Texas; and four grandchildren, LaDawna Campbell, Rebecca Campbell, Joshua Davis, and Jacob Davis.

Calvin Grace

Funeral services for Seminole resident Calvin Layfayette Grace are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel. Rev. David Karges is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direc tion of Swearingen Funeral Home. Grace died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003 at Seminole Estates Nursing Home at the age of 98. He moved to Seminole from Ada eight years ago. He was born Oct. 6, 1904 in Logan County to William L. and Matilda (Neil) Grace. Grace married Beulah (Tigner) Grace on Nov. 19, 1930 in Guthrie. He was a farmer and rancher. He was a member of Farm Bureau and a former member of Latta Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Grace was currently a member of First Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and four sisters. He is survived by his wife of the home; one brother, Paul Grace of Tulsa; and one sister, Velma Dunning of Seminole.

Jennie Coon Cotanny

Funeral services for Konawa resident Jennie Coon Cotanny are scheduled for Monday, Jan. 6, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Rock Springs Indian Baptist Church in Sasakwa. Revs. Ed George and Franklin Harjo will officiate. Burial will follow at Coon Family Cemetery under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. A wake service is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. at the family home in Konawa. Jesus called our beloved mother home on Jan. 2, 2003 at Valley View Regional Hospital in Ada at the age of 75 years old. She retired from Carl Albert Health Facility in Ada as a LPN. She was born to Billy and Wesley (Davis) Coon on May 31, 1927 in Sasakwa. On June 26, 1948, she married Wilford Cotanny in Yuma, Ariz. Jennie was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Walter, Bennie, and Arthur Coon; two sisters, Martha and Annie Coon; husband Wilford on Sept. 22, 1974; and oldest son, Lucian Jay Cotanny. Jennie is survived by one son, Dennis Cotanny of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bianca and Kenneth Lawrence and DiAnn and Sam Wheeler of Konawa; daughter-in-law, Catherine Cotanny of Tecumseh; two sisters-in-law, Lorene Williams of Oklahoma City and Eliza Coon of Sasakwa; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Grant Cotanny, Waylon Cotanny, Charles Lawrence, Kenny Lawrence Jr., Brian Wheeler and Lucian Wheeler. Honorary pallbearers will be Lucian Allen Cotanny and Donald Givens.

James M. Roberts

DALLAS, TEXAS – Funeral services for former Wewoka resident James M. Roberts are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sparkman/Hillcrest Northwest Highway Chapel. Interment is to follow in the Meadow of Reflection section of Hillcrest Memorial Park. Roberts died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002 at the age of 83. His college years were interrupted by World War II. While in the Army, he served overseas in England, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Holland, Germany, and Czechoslovakia, attaining the rank of captain. Roberts was awarded the Silver Star Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, the American Defense Ribbon, and the EAME Theater Ribbon with five Bronze Battle Stars and one Arrowhead. After the war, he returned home to complete his education at Oklahoma University, earning his degree in Petroleum Geology. After two introductory years with Carter Oil Co., he joined Mobil Oil’s International Department with assignments in Columbia, Venezuela, Libya, and ultimately in Iran as the manager of Mobil’s Iranian operations. He is survived by his wife, Corinne; three sons, Chris, Jeff and Gregg; one grandson; and two sisters, Joan Ligon and Mary Adelyn Knox. Pallbearers are Charles Hays, Blanchard Pritchard, George Perry, Glen Park, Tom Keating, and Dr. Edward Reis.

Gerald Quinn

Word has been received of the death of Wewoka native Gerald “Jerry” Allen Quinn. Quinn died at his home in Anchorage, Alaska on Nov. 23, 2002 at the age of 67. Interment was at Fort Richardson National Cemetery in Anchorage, Alaska. Quinn was born May 26, 1935 in Wewoka to Donald and Ora Quinn. He worked as a volunteer firefighter prior to his military service in the Oklahoma National Guard and then the U.S. Army where he served 12 years as an aviation mechanic and was a Vietnam veteran. After his separation from the Army in 1963, he remained in Maryland working as an auto mechanic for several years and went on to retire as a heavy equipment operator in 1998. Quinn moved to Kent Island in the late 1980s where he lived until August 2001. He then relocated to Anchorage, Alaska. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Quinn is survived by his wife, Mary Dorothy (Lambert); one son, Jerry A. Quinn. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald F. Quinn.

Walter Garner II

Funeral services for Wewoka resident Walter William Garner II are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Wewoka. Rev. Russell Ryker is set to officiate. Interment is to follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direc tion of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home. Garner died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003 at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 29. He was born in Holdenville on Dec. 5, 1973 to John Paul and Nancy Jo Cole Garner. He was reared in the Seminole County area and graduated in 1992 from Wewoka High School. Following graduation, Garner enlisted in the U.S. Marines where he served for four years prior to returning to Wewoka. He was employed by ABC Boring Corporation, a company that lays communication cable. He married Leslie Hendrix on Oct. 12, 2002, and he has a daughter, Ashlynn Brooke Garner, by a previous marriage. Garner is survived by his wife, Leslie Garner of the home; his daughter, Ashlynn Brooke Garner of McLoud; his parents, John Paul Garner and Nancy Jo Cole Garner of Wewoka; two brothers, John Garner Jr. and his wife, Sandra Lee of Holdenville, and Tommy Garner and his wife, Sandra Jo of Wewoka; and one sister, Jeanie Garner Lemons and her husband, Jerry, of Wewoka. He was preceded in death by both his maternal and paternal grandparents. Pallbearers will be Rick Ogle, Justin Chambers, Brandon Smith, Matt Hale, Shane Findley, and David Conley.

Cleo ‘Kido’ Pierce

Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Cleo “Kido” Ralph Pierce are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home. Rev. Larry Chesser is set to officiate. Interment is to follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direc tion of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home. Pierce died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002 at the age of 84. He had been residing in the Veterans Center in Clinton. He was born March 4, 1918 in Gotebo to John William Pierce and Ella Mae Summers. Pierce grew up in Seminole County and attended Ong School. He enlisted in the United States Army during the beginning of World War II and fought and served from June 1943 through September 1945 in the Rome-Arno Rhineland Campaign, Central Europe Campaign, and Naples-Foggia, Southern France/ Sicily Campaign. He married Drebbie Pope on Nov. 24, 1951. He is survived by his daughter, Jean Hay of Cheyenne; his sister, Helen Williams of Wichita, Kans.; and three grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Dee Hay, Richard Estep, Jeff Davis, Jeremy Moler, Ryan Nalley, and Charles Williams.

Robert Harjo

Funeral services for Konawa resident Robert Harjo are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Konawa. Revs. Darrell Stinnett and Dorsey Nero will officiate. Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery, under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. A wake service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Harjo died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003 at Oklahoma Heart Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 74. He was born to Alec Harjo and Rosie (Leftwich) Harjo on July 28, 1928 in Sasakwa. Harjo was a lifelong Seminole County resident. He married Minnie Ruth Harjo on Oct. 14, 1949 in Wewoka. Harjo was a self-employed contractor, was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and was of Baptist faith. Harjo was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Fesher, Albert, Billy Joe, Raymond, Joe, and Roman Harjo; and one sister, Missie Carpitcher. He is survived by his wife, Minnie; one son, Bob Harjo, Houston, Texas; one daughter, Gail Harjo, of the home; one brother, Cecil Harjo, Sasakwa; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Casketbearers will be the Chickasaw Nation Honor Guard. Honorary bearers will be Jay Long, Jonas Burgess, and Lewis Carpitcher.

Wilma Boyington

Funeral services for former Seminole resident Wilma Boyington are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. R.T. McDonald is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Boyington died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002 at Southwest Medical Center at the age of 68. She was born Dec. 26, 1934 in Seminole to Elmer and Lela (Gentry) Billings. She married Buddy Boyington on June 7, 1968 in Stinnett, Texas. Boyington was a retired daycare and store manager. She attended Bowlegs Schools. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Daniel Billings in 1999; two nephews and one niece. Boyington is survived by her husband of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Connie Hinman of Lawtey, Fla., David Ross Hinman of Melbourne, Fla., and Steven Kay and Laree Hinman of Oklahoma City; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Phyllis Billings of Ponca City and Raymond and De Billings of Seminole; one sister, Geraldine Johnston of Willis, Texas; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Eduardo Ponce

Funeral services for Sasakwa resident Eduardo “Eddie” Ponce, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka. Rev. Lee Wayne Fowler will officiate. Interment will follow at Westwood Cemetery, under the direc tion of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home. Ponce died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002 at the age of 51. He was born to Ray Luna and Juanita Ponce on Oct. 13, 1951 in El Paso, Texas. Ponce grew up and graduated high school in El Paso. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sherry Ponce, of the home; their children, Belinda Ponce, Edward Ponce, Jr., Enoch Ponce, Sasakwa, and Angela Ponce Cotton, Seminole; his parents, Ray Luna and Juanita Ponce; his brothers and sisters, Rosemary Zunita, Ramona, Calif., Martha Diaz, Arizona, Ray Luna, El Paso, Texas, and Sophia Luna, Los Angeles, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
