Jimmie Don Marson

Funeral services for longtime Wewoka resident Jimmie Don Marson are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Hilltop Baptist Church with Rev. Russell Ryker officiating. Interment is to follow services at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home. Marson, 56 passed away Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006 in Seminole. He was born Sept. 25, 1949 in Wewoka to Jimmie Marson and Juanita Nora (Smith) Marson. He loved to fish and be with his family. He was a faithful member of Hilltop Freewill Baptist Church. His mother, Juanita Marson, preceded him in death. Surviving is his father, Jimmie Marson of Wewoka; brother, Ronnie Griffith of Visalia, Calif. and special friends, Mr. And Mrs. James Benedict of Earlsboro. Pallbearers for the services will be Jim Choate, Kevin Thetford, Jake Smith, Charles Collins, Charles Sisco and Darrell Streater. Honorary bearers will be Russ Kay and Roy Griffith.

Jake Owen

There have been no services planned at this time for Seminole native DeWayne "Jake" Owen who died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006 in Oklahoma City. He was born Aug. 12, 1937 in Seminole to A.B. and Iva Owen. Owen graduated from Seminole High School in 1955 after a remarkable athletic career. A three-sport letterman, Owen played on an AAU championship baseball team and was named to all-conference and all-state football squads. The 1955 National Prep Football Magazine ranked him 4th nationally in pass receiving. Owen attended Oklahoma A&M on a football scholarship. He left college early to begin working in the oil patch, where he spent most of his career with BJ Hughes Services. His work took him all over the state and eventually to the North Sea and throughout Europe. As vice president of international sales for BJ Hughes, Owen lived in Stavanger, Norway and later London, England. Upon returning to the United States, he co-founded Production Service, Inc. and was recently honored at his 50th high school reunion by being inducted in to the Seminole High School Hall of Fame. Surviving is his wife of 25 years, Mary; three children, Shereata, Clint and Todd; stepdaughters, Chris and Wendy; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mozell Hall

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Mozell Hall are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Church of Christ, Seminole with Chris Stinnett to officiate. Interment is to follow at Rest Haven Memorial Garden in Seminole under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Home. Mozell passed away Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006 in Gonzales, Texas at the age of 86. She was born in Creek County on Nov. 26, 1919 to Charles R. and Emma (Creason) Johnson. On April 12, 1941 she married James H. Hall in Seminole. The couple lived in Velma Alma, Okla. during Jim's oilfield career before returning to Seminole. Following the passing of her husband, Mozell moved to Gonzales, Texas in August 2005. She was a homemaker, devoted wife and Christian. Mozell graduated from Prairie View High School. She loved sewing and did so for the public. Mozell was an active member of Church of Christ of Seminole. Her parents, husband James (April 21, 2005), one sister Louise Conner and one son Larry Hall preceded her in death. Surviving is son and daughter-in-law, Don and Faye Hall of Lancaster, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Vicky and Bill Dryden of Gonzales, Texas; two grandchildren, Rodney Green and wife Teresa of Chickasha and Gabriella Green of Dallas, Texas and two great-grandchildren, Serena Rachel and Logan Alexander. Casket bearers will be Charles Conner, Wayne Conner, C.W. Conner, Gale Conner, Daniel Rojas and Mike Vanlandingham.

Leona Mae King

Funeral services for Konawa resident Leona Mae King are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Pentecostal Church in Wanette with Rev. Roy Flud officiating. Interment is to follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka. King, 70 died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006 at her residence. She was born Jan. 11, 1936 in Seminole to Henry Hopkins and Mary Tressie (Hodges) Hopkins. She worked for a number of years as a sewing machine operator and before her death she was a health care provider. In 1956 she married William Scott King and she was a member of First Pentecostal Church of Wanette. Her parents, husband and two sisters, Juanita Strong and Dorothy Garrison preceded her in death. Surviving is her daughter Dorothy King; three sisters, Vonda Trivett, Dene Henderson and Theresa Bonner, all of Ada; three brothers, Carl Ralph Taylor and Darl Eugene Taylor, both of Konawa and Robert Samuel Taylor of Shawnee; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Pallbearers for the services will be Carl Taylor Jr., Bryan Davis, Lanny Davis, Robbie Taylor, Shaun Taylor and Larry Green. Honorary bearers are to be Phil Rector and Ron Frizzell.

Joan Delores Sutton

Funeral services for Cromwell native Joan Delores Sutton are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the Church of Christ in Okemah. Rev. James Branscum assisted by Dr. Bill Hill will officiate the services. Interment is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Sutton was born in Cromwell on June 9, 1929 to Clarence Otto and Aileen Frances (Collier) Foley. She passed away Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006 in Tulsa at the age of 76. She graduated from Cromwell High School in 1947 and then she and Walter Howard Sutton were married Oct. 30, 1947 in Oklahoma City. The couple resided in Wilburton until they moved to Okemah in 2003. Mrs. Sutton worked at Eastern Oklahoma State College for more than 28 years, before her retirement. She held many job titles at the college; one being an administrative assistant. After her retirement the governor appointed her to the Board of Regents with the college. She enjoyed playing golf, and most of all, her grandchildren. Mrs. Sutton was loved by many people and will be dearly missed. Her parents, Clarence and Aileen Foley, one brother and two sisters preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Walter Howard Sutton of Okemah; one son, Joe Howard and wife Jeanne of Wilburton; her daughter, Beth Sutton Fitzgerald of Cromwell and two sisters, Eunice Hamon of Rock Port, Texas and Joyce (Foley) Smith and husband Jeptha of Center Point, Texas. In addition, three grandchildren, Sam Sutton of Wilburton, Chet Fitzgerald of Wisconsin Dells, Wis. And Joe Patrick Fitzgerald of Cromwell and three great-grandchildren, Alayna Reece of Cromwell, Cy Fitzgerald of Shawnee and Jace Fitzgerald of Cromwell also survive her. Serving as active pallbearers will be Chet and Joe Fitzgerald, Sam Sutton, L. Ray Sutton, Hobart Means, J.C. Hunt and Jeptha Smith. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers donation may be made to the Okemah Public School Foundation in the name of Mrs. Sutton.

Kenneth 'Kenny' Nance

Graveside services for longtime Seminole resident Kenneth "Kenny" Eugene Nance are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Little Cemetery with J.C. Simpson to officiate. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Nance, 49 died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006 at his Seminole residence. He was born in Madera, Calif. July 3, 1956 to Robert Eugene Nance and Betty Lois (Jones) Nance. He moved to Seminole from California 37 years ago and worked at TDK in Shawnee for many years. Later he went to work at Seminole High School and was a custodian for several years, retiring in 2003 due to his illness. Kenny served in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge on Sept. 30, 1981. He was a member of People's Community Church in Seminole. Surviving are his parents, Robert and Lois Nance of Seminole; one sister and brother-in-law, Cindi and Doug Shivers of Yukon; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Duane and Sharon Nance of Tishomingo and Jeff and Naoma Nance of Seminole; 10 nieces and nephews; seven great-nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends. Serving as honorary bearers will be Casey Phillips, Roger Williams, Jim Choate, Larry Harris, Allen Harris and Jim Moreland.

Earl Lee Sharp

Funeral services for Holdenville resident Earl Lee Sharp are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Yarbrough and Rev. Steve Murray officiating. Interment is to follow services at Oakwood cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home. Sharp, 81 died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2006 in Oklahoma City. He was born on May 21, 1924 in Shidler, Okla. to John and Blanche (Morris) Sharp. He moved to Holdenville from Midland, Texas 10 years ago and married Betty Sharp on Feb. 23, 1996 in Mineola, Texas. Sharp worked in oilfield equipment sales for many years and had served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge. His parents, one daughter Patti King and his first wife, Vivian Sharp, preceded him in death. Surviving is his wife Betty Sharp of the home; two granddaughters; two stepdaughters, Jan Sipe of Tulsa and Carol Ozzello of Pueblo, Colo. and one stepson, Larry Adams of Yukon. The family suggests that donations should be made to the charity of choice.

Wanda B. Smith

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Wanda B. Smith are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Tim Tate officiating. Interment is to follow ser- vice at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Smith, 75, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006 at Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City after suffering from a battle of ALS (Lou Gherigs Disease). She was born Nov. 4, 1930 in Maud to Troy Allen Williams and Myrtle Ava (Terry) Williams. Smith moved to Seminole from Lubbock, Texas in 1967. Smith worked at Granny Fern's Café for 12 years and then at Central Drug for 12 years. In addition, she worked in housekeeping at the old Seminole Hospital for 13 years and then three years as a salad maker in the new Medical Center. She married James Smith and he preceded her in death on April 11, 1999. Her parents also preceded her in death. Smith was active in the Seminole Senior Citizen Center and worked as a "Pink Lady" in the Seminole Medical Center. She was a member of the "Red Hat" Society of Seminole and of the Assembly of God Church. Surviving is one daughter, Mary Black of Seminole; one brother, Roger Williams of Oklahoma City; one sister, Lavell Jones of Rock Springs, Wy.; two granddaughters; six great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Casket bearers for the services will be Cory Canfield, Michael Canfield, Elwood Canfield Jr., Mickey Shaw, Terry Little and Pastor Doyle Long. The family suggests that memorial donations may be made to ALS Foundation at ALS Association, National Office, 27001 Agoura Rd., Suite 150, Calabasas Hills, CA 91301-5104.

Darrel Blanton

Funeral services for Seminole County resident Darrell Royce Blanton are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Dan Factor and Nathan Blanton Jr. will officiate with interment to follow at Blanton Family Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home. Blanton, 59 died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006 in Wewoka. He was born Jan. 7, 1947 in Wewoka to Nathan and Ethel (Davis) Blanton. He graduated from Butner High School and retired from Seminole County as a grader operator. He was a member of the Butner Baptist Church. His parents, brother Arthur Blanton, sisters Ann Ezell and Gayla Blanton and grandson, Darrel K. Blanton preceded him in death. Surviving are seven sons, Darrel L. Blanton, David Blanton, Daniel Blanton, Donald Blanton, Darren Blanton, Douglas Blanton and Alvin Morris, all of Wewoka; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Dorothy Hartsfield of Croker, Mo., Virginia Haley of Oklahoma City, Carol Larson of Tecumseh and Linda Shaub of Shawnee and four brothers, John Blanton of Shawnee, Glendale Blanton of Wewoka, Curtis Lee Blanton of Wewoka and Nathan Blanton Jr. Pallbearers will be Bobby Gore, Dave Chanller, Keith Quinalty, Mickey Ledbetter, Gene Goodnight and Leon Goodnight. Honorary bearers will be Tristan Williams, Kendall Gore, Austin Gore, Lonzo Williams and Mark Green.

Larry Faulkner

A memorial service for Holdenville resident Larry Dean Faulkner was held at 10 a.m. today at Ministry of Life Church in Wewoka with Rev. Danny Faulkner and Rev. Tony Faulkner officiating. Interment followed at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home. Faulkner, 42, died Monday, Aug. 1, 2005 in Denver, Colo. He was born Nov. 29, 1962 in Holdenville to James and Elsie (McGirt) Faulkner. He was a Seminole Nation firefighter and had spent several years fighting fires throughout the United States. He enjoyed the times he spent with his fellow firefighters. One brother, Samuel Powell; maternal grandparents, Chiley McGirt and Eliza Puntka and his paternal grandparents, James Oscar Faulkner and Edna Weathered Faulkner preceded him in death. Survivors include one son, Nichols Faulkner of Tulsa; one daughter, Amelia (Millie) Faulkner of Mesquite, Texas; his parents, James and Elsie Faulkner of Holdenville; seven brothers, Fred Billie, Terry Faulkner, Gary Faulkner, Ricky Faulkner, Jimcy McGirt of Lawton, Danny Faulkner of Wewoka, and his twin Tony Faulkner of Tulsa and three sisters, Lucille McGirt and Janie Harjo of Holdenville and Teresa Conley of Wewoka. Honorary pallbearers for the services were Danny Powell, Bunny Powell, Pete Harjo, Stanley Tiger and Freddie Footracer.

Barney Harjoe

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole area resident Barney Monroe Harjoe are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mike Harjo officiating. Interment is to follow services at the family cemetery in Roscoe under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel. Harjoe, 80, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was born west of Bowlegs on Jan. 25, 1926 to Eco Harjoe and Eliza (Carbitcher) Riley. He was a farmer and oil field worker. His parents; two half brothers, John and Edmond Riley and two infant sons, Monroe and Manroe Harjoe preceded him in death. Surviving is one son Ted Harjoe of Shawnee; one sister, Wynema Deo of Norman and three grandchildren.

Melizzie Jane Hilburn

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Melizzie Jane (Harjo) Hilburn are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church in Wewoka. Re. Houston Tiger is to officiate and interment is to follow at Sand Creek Eufaula Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Wake services will be held Wednesday from 6 – 8 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel and Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Sand Creek Eufaula Church. Melizzie passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006 at her home. She was born June 29, 1957 in Seminole to Cecil Harjo and Mandy (Hulbutta) Williams. She was married to Charlie Lumpkin for 18 years and had a bachelor's degree and worked as an LPN for Peak Medical Corporation of Seminole County. Her father, Cecil Harjo; sister, Pauline Guzman and one brother, Thomas John Harjo preceded her in death. Surviving is her husband, Charlie Lumpkin of the home; mother, Mandy Williams of Seminole; one son, Timothy Fry of Seminole; two daughters, Amy Hilburn of Seminole and Janet Casselman of Tulsa; two brothers, Randy Harjo of Okmulgee and Manuel Guzman of San Jose, Calif. and four sisters, Martha Harjo, Katherine Hicks and Feathers Wolfchief, all of Seminole and Felicia Hicks of Frederick. In addition, seven grandchildren, Amanda Fry, Stephen Calger, Zachary Casselman, James Kerr, Alicia Gokey and Dayton Gokey; two aunts, Geneva Fox and Marie Barefoot, both of Wewoka and one uncle, Leo Hulbutta of Wewoka survive her. Pallbearers for the services will be Jimmy Hulbutta, Tommy Hulbutta, Jackie Hulbutta, Jimmy Ray Frazier, Ricky Williams and Casey Hicks. Honorary bearers are to be Leo Hulbutta, Randy Harjo, Manuel Guzman, Adam Kaskaske and Starr Davis.

Billy Ray 'Bill' Garner

Funeral services for lifelong resident Billy Ray "Bill" Garner are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Maud with Rev. Danny O'Daniel officiating. Interment is to follow at Cummings Cemetery with military honors under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home. Garner passed away at his home in Maud Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006 at the age of 65. He was born Jan. 3, 1941 in Maud to Arthur Otto Garner and Iva (Patterson) Garner. On April 13, 1967 Bill married Linda Taff in Seminole and would have celebrated their 39th anniversary this year. He was a self-employed carpenter who retired in 1999 due to health reasons. He was of the Baptist faith. Bill served in the United States Army. His parents; brother, Dale Garner; mother-in-law, Chrisa Price and one brother-in-law, Melvin Taff preceded him in death. Surviving is his wife Linda Garner of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Dana Garner and David and Ronelle Garner, all of Maud; one daughter, Kimberly garner of Maud; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Glendon and Margret Garner and Ray and "Aunt Jim" Garner, all of Maud; one sister, Barbara Barner of Prague and three grandchildren, Dugan Henson, Garrett and Chrisa Garner, all of Maud. Casket bearers for the ser- vices will be Nick Silas, Ronnie Silas, Geoff Garner, Brad Shultz, Harold Brewer and Noland "Buddy" Dodson. Honorary bearers are to be Mike Garner, Greg Price, Bob Miller, Pat Wilson, James Olliff, Jim Taff and Walter Taff.
