BETTY NORENE ELLIS
Betty Norene Ellis, 78, died on Dec. 22, 2004. She was born on March 14, 1926, to Bryan Eugene and Estella Pearl Scott Hembree in Tecumseh. Betty worked many years as a Meat Wrapper for Safeway and Warehouse Market in Tulsa. In 1976 she obtained her real estate broker’s license and was an integral part of Western Real Estate in Oologah and Claremore until her retirement. Betty and her husband were both charter members of the Shelter Freewill Baptist Church of Collinsville, Oklahoma. She is survived by two daughters, Karla Diane Berry and husband, Jim, of Chelsea; and Rebecca Louise Slover and husband, John, of Oologah; two grandchildren, Sherry Lynn Arico and husband, Rick, of Claremore; and Rodney Lee Clark of Dallas, Texas; two great-granddaughters, Amana Diane Arico and Ashlee Danielle Arico of Claremore; one sister, Jeanne Little of Tulsa; three sisters-in-Iaw, Dot Hembree of Placentia, CA; Elba Lynch and Eunice Hale of Tulsa.

JAMES L. SONTAG
James L. Sontag, 73, judge, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004. A Rosary was held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 29, and a funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 30. Both were at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church under the direction of Musgrove Merriott-Smith.

TONY RAY HORNER
Tony Ray Horner, 43, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005. Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 6, at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Oakhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service and Crematory. The son of Carl Junior and Norma Lee (Moree) Horner was born March 6, 1961, in Claremore. Tony was a graduate of Vinita High School. For the past seven years he worked for American Airlines in the interior shop. He is survived by his children: Dustin Horner and wife, Jessica, and Eric and Trenton all of Oologah; parents: Norma L. Horner-Clemmens and husband, George of Claremore; brother, Tracy Horner and wife, Teri of Collinsville; step-brothers and step-sister: Steve Clemmens of Claremore, Dave Clemmens and wife, Misty of Claremore, and Darla McDermed and husband, Ken of Chelsea.

Virginia Lee Pelley
Virginia Lee Pelley, 72, died on Jan. 10, 2005, in Collinsville. Virginia was born on July 23, 1932, in Petersburg, Virginia, to Raymond George Harvey and Virginia Rose (Corning) Harvey. She moved to the Oologah area in 1971. Virginia worked for the Mustang Café from 1980 to 1992. Survivors include three sisters: Peggy Sue Jackson-Upton, of Colonial Heights, VA, Betty Ann Strack of Saranac, NY, and Shirley Louise Calloway of Long Beach, CA; two brothers: John Wayne Harvey of Hopewell, VA, and Jack Allen Harvey of Capron, VA. The service for Virginia was at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13, at Liberty Freewill Baptist Church in Oologah. Reverend Ronny Hardage officiated. Burial was Friday at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery under the direction of the Oologah Funeral Home.

Letha May Haynes Finfrock
Letha May Haynes Finfrock, 91, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2005. Born in Stone County, Arkansas on Dec. 5, 1913 to Walter and Dessie Poff Lancaster, Letha moved to Stratford, Oklahoma as a young woman. She married Orval E. Haynes. The couple made their home in Rogers County in 1942. Letha came to be known as the “Basketball Mom,” always ready with needle and thread to repair uniforms and cheer on her girls’ teams. On Feb. 24, 1970, Mr. Haynes passed away. In 1972 she married Howard Finfrock and they continued to reside in Oologah when not traveling. Eight years after Mr. Finfrock’s passing in 1982 Letha moved to Montana to be near her daughter, Barbara. In recent years, Letha made her home at the Frances Streitel Senior Care Center in Collinsville. Letha is survived by her daughters, Barbara Huber and her husband, Jack, of Polson, Montana; Maxine Rowden and her husband, David; and Anita Jackson and her husband, Leonard, all of Oologah; her stepson Wayne Finfrock of Grand Lake; grandchildren, Wayne Sitton, Glenda Messimore, Ronnie Huber, Carla Strong, Roger Sitton, Teresa Huber and Danny Jackson; 17 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren; her siblings, Jennie Bradshaw of Lebanon, Oregon, Clara Womack of Norman, Oklahoma, Catherine Peery and her husband, Dean, of Laddonia, Missouri, John R. Lancaster of Killeen, Texas, Geneva Watkins and her husband, Lloyd, of Claremore, and Dalton Lancaster, Mexico. Services for Letha May Haynes Finfrock were 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14 in the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery in Talala.

HELEN ADAMS CARR
Helen Louise Adams Carr, 86, passed away in her sleep last Sunday morning after a prolonged illness. Helen was born in Ozona, Texas to William (Bill) Minicke and Luther Bernard (L.B.) Adams Aug. 2, 1918, one of five children. Helen’s younger sister, Florene, is still living in San Antonio, Texas. Helen lived the last 2-˝ years with her daughter and son-in-law, Coni and Lance Houghtling, on their ranch just north of Talala. Active until the last six months, Helen enjoyed people in Claremore, Talala, and Oologah, where she attended Oologah United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held in her honor at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Oologah United Methodist Church, Pastor Ben Williams officiating.

LETHA (HAYNES) FINFROCK
Services for Letha Finfrock will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 14, at the Rice Funeral Home in Claremore. Graveside service will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Talala.

PATRICIA ANN LEWIS
Patrician Ann Lewis, 63, of Chelsea, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005 at Claremore Indian Hospital. She was born Aug. 28, 1941, in Miami. Patricia grew up in Tulsa, and graduated from Central High School. On March 11, 1994, she married Douglas Russell Lewis in Gravit, AR. They have made their home in Chelsea and she was a member of the Church of Christ. She is survived by her husband, Douglas of the home; children Lisa Collins and husband Paul of Oologah, Vicki Lahocki and husband, David of Chelsea, Brian Goodman of Claremore, and Wendyl Goodman and wife Cindy of Claremore; grandchildren Becky, Steven, April, Jessica, Nicole, Leeanna, Blake, Joshua, Tony, and Zachary; and great-grandchildren, Tyler and Shiloh. A memorial service for Patricia was to be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12, at the Church of Christ in Chelsea. Arrangements were made through the Chelsea Funeral Home and Crematory.

VONDA LEA HILL
Lifelong Oologah resident Vonda Lea Hill, 65, died Jan. 6, 2005. Violet was born on August 23, 1939, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to Willis and Violet Mae (Earnshaw) Drumm. She was a retired nurse and a member of Collinsville Church of Christ. Survivors include three sons: Jeff Hill of Oologah, Jason Hill and Jamie Hill, both of Joplin, MO; two step-sons: John Hill and Jack Hill, both of Tulsa; four daughters: Peggy Summers of Oologah; Sally Hill of Purcell; Betty Forbes of Oologah; and Barbara Nelson of Grove; two brothers: Bill Seabolt and Marvin Seabolt, both of Ramona; three sisters: Lillian Workman of Ramona; Teresa Trissler of Texas; Joy Lucas of Ramona; eighteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Services were held at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, Jan. 11, at the Church of Christ in Collinsville, with Carl Harris officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Oologah, Oklahoma, under the direction of the Oologah Funeral Home.

WILLIAM LEWIS BELL
William Lewis Bell, 78, passed away on Jan. 4, 2005. Bell was born on Sept. 17, 1926, in Owasso. He was a longtime lineman for Verdigris Valley Electric. His parents were Corbin and Christine Bell. Bell is survived by his wife, Donita, of the home in Oologah; two sons, Lt. Commander William L. Bell of Virginia, and Freddy Bell of Collinsville; one sister, Eileen Coe of Collinsville; sixteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Services were at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 7, at the Baptist Tabernacle in Collinsville with interment in the Fairview Cemetery in Owasso. Military graveside rites were by Collinsville V.F.W. Services were under the direction of Nick Reynolds Funeral Home in Collinsville.

Peggy Blunt
Peggy Karen Blunt, 57, of Owasso, passed away Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007. She was born June 27, 1950 in Tulsa to George Allen and Marcia Elizabeth 'Betty' (Hayhurst) Garrett. She graduated from Owasso High School and earned her master's degree in Occupational and Adult Education from Oklahoma State University. Peggy was an instructor at Tulsa Technology Center and was previous part-owner in Black Jaxx. She is survived by her husband, Harold, of the home; two sons, Robert Brown and his wife Angela, and Dustin Blunt, all of Owasso; two step-daughters, Kristi Murphy and Renee Navarro, all of Broken Arrow; 11 grandchildren, Alexis and Eric Brown, Austin, Dallas and Jordan Blunt, Chris and Ashley Cox, Kim and Randy Gilliland, Brittney Powers and Candy Puente; four great grandchildren, Jaxton, Jaden, Braden and Malick; brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Claudia Garrett, of Tulsa; one sister, Pamela Elliott, of Tulsa; nieces, Ronda Hatton, of San Diego, CA., Misty Elliott Brown, of Owasso and Kim Johnson, of Tulsa, and step-mother, Dr. Harriett Sherrill, of Owasso. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at The River Church in Owasso with Pastor Bill Bush officiating; burial in Sandridge Cemetery near Owasso under the direction of Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.

Lloyd Odell Capps
Lloyd Odell Capps, 90, of Claremore, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at the VA Center. He was born Oct. 5, 1916, in Tahlequah. He served in the Navy during World War II. He owned and operated Capps Boat Sales near Oologah Lake. He had also patented several inventions. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of the home; a daughter, Cynthia 'Tootsie' Masten and husband Bobby of Claremore; eight step-children; two grandsons, Ricci Partridge and wife Brenda, and Lloyd Bridges and wife Kimberly; nine great grandchildren; and several other relatives. Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 5, at Westwood United Pentecostal Church. Graveside services were in Park Hill Cemetery in Tahlequah.

John Russell (Rusty) Doshier
Services for John Russell (Rusty) Doshier will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15 at St. Andrew's Methodist Church in Claremore. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and all day Friday at the Oologah Funeral Home. Rusty was the son of Sylvia Maxine (Baldwin) Doshier and the late John Doshier of Oologah. He was born on Feb. 25, 1956 and died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007 in rural Montana. Rusty's work took him to many interesting places. He had installed dialysis clinics in China and in many areas of the United States. Another assignment took him to Singapore to install CAT scanning equipment. Rusty is survived by his mother, Maxine, step-daughter Molly Redyke of Broken Arrow, step-grandson, Parker of Broken Arrow, sister and brother-in-law Kathy and Johnny Bussey of Oologah, nephews Andrew Bussey and wife Katie of Oologah and Spencer Bussey of Evanston, Wyoming.

DORTHA LEE MARTIN
Dortha Lee Martin passed away on Feb. 24, 2005 in Tulsa. She was born on March 3, 1911, in Craig County, Missouri. Dortha had been a resident of the Talala/Oologah area since 1927. She was also the oldest member of the Rabbs Creek Southern Baptist Church. Services were held at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, March 1, at the Rabbs Creek Southern Baptist Church in Oologah, with Rev. Bryan Keeth officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Collinsville Funeral Home.

JIM HANNER
James Lee "Jim" Hanner, 69, longtime resident of Owasso, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Oklahoma. He was married Sept. 5, 1958, at Perry to Janie Lou Gregg. He served with the United States Air Force. He obtained a degree in meteorology from Penn State University while serving in the Air Force. After his discharge, he worked for the Carbon Black Plant where he developed a loading system for which he held the patent. He had worked for Skelly Oil and Gas then worked for Foxboro as a regional sales manager. Family members include: his wife of 46 years, Janie, of the home; four children: Joy Wadsworth, of Owasso, Jim Hanner, Jr. and his wife Robin, of Owasso, Gregg Hanner and his wife Janell, of Tulsa, Jan Buehler and her husband Shon, of Oologah, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren: Jeremy Rosenquist, Josh Buehler, Shannon Wadsworth, Matthew Wadsworth, Trey Hanner, Joel Hanner, Jessica Hanner; two sisters: Joyce Eubanks and her husband Lorell, Joann Shafer; one brother and sister-in-law: Jerry and Saundra Hanner, all of Sand Springs. Funeral services were Tuesday, Feb. 22, at the First Baptist Church in Owasso with Pastor Bill Eubanks officiating. Interment followed at Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery in Owasso. Arrangements were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso.
