Peggy Faye Bennett
Peggy Faye Bennett, 59, of Poteau, Okla., died Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997 in a Poteau hospital. She was a former resident of Bixby, Okla., member of the River View Baptist Church in Bixby.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997 at the Assembly of God Church, Bates, Ark with burial at Howe Cemetery, Howe, Okla. under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
She is survived by her husband, Bill, daughter, Carmen Hankins of Lake Dallas, Tex.; son, Jeff of Tulsa; sisters, Twilla Maxwell of Wister, Betty Cagle of Poteau, Shirley Brothers of Plainview, Ark., and Linda Hill of Bates, Ark.; three brothers, Gene Pottridge of Howe, Doss and Gary Pottridge both of Bates; two granddaughters, Megan and Ashley Hankins.

Janet Griever Brooks
Mrs. Janet Griever Brooks, 43, of Hamburg, Ark., died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997 at her residence in Hamburg, Ark. Mrs. Brooks was a native of Poteau, Okla. and a resident of Hamburg, Ark. since 1962. She was a Homemaker and a member of the First Baptist church in Hamburg, Ark. She was past president of the Albritton Elementary P.T.O. and she was secretary of the Dixie Youth Baseball League in Hamburg.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Rev. E. E. and Myrtle Griever and her maternal grandmother, Myrtle Kirkpatrick.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Brooks; a son, Cody Brooks and a daughter, Sarah Brooks; her parents, Buddy and Berry Griever all of Hamburg, Ark.; two brothers, Charlie Griever and his wife, Lou, of Crossett, Ark., and Jimmy Griever and his wife, Cindy of Hamburg; her mother-in-law, Dorothy Brooks of Eudora and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997 at the First Baptist Church in Hamburg with Rev. Charles Pullin, Rev. Klois Hargis and Dr. Bobby Pennington officiating.
Pallbearers are Kenny Bowden, Chris Kelley, Tony Blann, Johnny Pierce, Eddie Etheridge, Terry Cain, Lee Thornhill and Dickie Morton.
Honorary Pallbearers are Kerry Yelvington, Jimmy Stell, Bobby Griffin, Bob Timmons, Willie Claude Kelley and the Georgia-Pacific Woodyard Employees. Interment will be in the Hamburg Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg, Ark.

Lou "Thompson" Caraway
Lou "Thompson" Caraway, 86, of Gunter, Tex., died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997 in Gunter, Tex., she was former resident of Heavener and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Heavener.
Graveside services were held 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 1997 Memorial Park of Heavener under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home.
She is survived by her son Bud Thompson of Frisco, Tex.; sister, Dorothy Babcock of Heavener; and two grandchildren.

Charlie H. Childres
Charlie H. Childres, 63, of Derby, KS formerly of Summerfield, OK, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997, he retired as a Boeing Wichita Machinist.
Services were held Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. at the Midway Baptist Church in Wichita, KS following interment was in Greenwood Cemetery, Sedan, KS.
He is survived by three sons, Charles of Beaumont, KS, Leslie of Goddard, KS, and Brandon of Wichita, KS; eight grandchildren; one brother, Edgar Childres of San Diego, CA; three sisters, Edna Jones of Derby, KS, Margie Edmonson of Oklahoma City, OK, and Linda M. Wood of Heavener, OK.
Charlie H. Childres was born in Battiest, OK, and raised up in and around Summerfield. He graduated from Fanshawe High School, enlisted in the Navy in the early 50's and served four years. He moved to Wichita, KS and worked in the Aircraft industry until failing health forced early retirement. At the time of his death, he lived in Derby, KS.

Ruby Davis
Ruby Davis, 85, of Jenks, Okla., died Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997 in her residence. Ruby Jenks was born February 8, 1912 in Clayton, Okla. She was a Homemaker.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997 at the Evans Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Larry Brinkley officiating, following interment at Oakland Cemetery of Poteau.
She is survived by her sons, Wayne Davis of Parkvsville, Mo., John Davis of Tulsa, Okla.; daughter, Nadine Brissey of Jenks; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; other relatives and loved ones and many friends.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Davis.
Arrangements under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.

Vera D. Dunn
Vera D. Dunn, 93, was born June 16, 1904 formerly of LeFlore County, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997 at her residence in Santa Clara, Calif.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997 at the Oakland Pavilion with the Rev. Larry Haney officiating, following interment at Oakland Cemetery.
Vera D. Dunn, beloved wife of the late Charles L. Dunn, step-mother to Janell Day of San Jose, Calif., and the late Charles E. Dunn of Fresno, Calif., grandmother of nine, great-grandmother of eight, former owner of Vera West Lighting, 234. S. Second Street in San Jose, Calif.
Friends are invited to attend the funeral services Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997 at 11 a.m. at the Oakland Cemetery Pavilion, Poteau.
Arrangements under the direction of the Evans & Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.

Mae Hudgins
Mae Hudgins, 90, of Wister, Okla., died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997 at her residence. Mae Hudgins was born Oct. 2, 1907 in Wister. She was a Homemaker.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997 at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau with the Rev. Clyde Steelman officiating, interment at the Petillo Hills Cemetery in Centerville, Ark.
She is survived by her sons, Billy Earl Hudgins of Howe, Okla., and Bobby Joe Hudgins of Las Vegas, NV; sister, Carrie Smith of Ft. Smith, Ark.; brother, William Allread of Moore, Ark.; six grandchildren; one great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mae was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Wister. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Hudgins in August of 1987, and a son, Harvey Hudgins.
Arrangements under the direction of the Evans & Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.

Annie Mae James
Annie Mae James, 86, of Poteau, Okla., died Monday, Dec. 15, 1997 at the Oaks Health Care Center of Poteau. Annie Mae James was born August 11, 1911 in Stigler, Okla. She was a Homemaker.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997 at the James Cemetery in Calhoun, Okla.
She is survived by her three sons, Roy James of Poteau, Bennie James of Talihina, and Allan A. James of Calhoun; four daughters, Easter Buckner of Panama, Mary Montgomery of Poteau, Flora James of Poteau, and Linda Maxwell of Poteau; one sister, Mary Jane Lucas of Poteau; 32 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, other family and many friends.
Arrangements under the direction of the Evans & Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.

Martha Lee Jones
Martha Lee Jones, 73, of Heavener, Okla., died Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997 in a Van Buren nursing home in Arkansas. She was a resident of Heavener for the past eight years, and a member of the Catholic Church.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997 at the Memorial Park in Heavener under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

A. C. Curtis Mecom
A.C. Curtis Mecom, 71, former LeFlore County resident, departed this life Dec. 10 at his home in Tucson, AZ.
He was of Southern Baptist faith and a school administrator and teacher by profession.
He was preceded in death by one daughter Laura Mecom of the home, his parents Robert Mecom, Virtie Mecom Long, and step-father, Lonnie Long, one brother Thomas Mecom, one step-brother, Harrell Long.
He is survived by his wife Polly Ann; one daughter, Teri Rackham of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two sons, Dr. Stewart Mecom of Tucson and Brian Mecom of Seattle, WA; three sisters, Elsie McMillan of Pocola, Frances Swiney of Spiro, and Grace Covey of Poteau; three brothers, Robert P. Mecom of Spiro, Leon Long of Sallisaw, and Kenneth Long of Hobbs, NM; one step-brother, Doyle Long of Yreka, CA; one very close cousin, J.C. Mecom of Tucson; lots of other cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Graveside services were Saturday morning with interment in Casa Grande Cemetery, Case Grande, AZ.

Elsie Mae Moore
Elsie Mae Moore, 78, of Spiro, OK, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997 in a local hospital, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spiro.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997 at the Mallory Chapel of Spiro with burial at New Hope Cemetery in Spiro under the direction of the Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.
She is survived by her daughter, Delores Beavers of Nashua, NH; one son, Roy Sanders of Spiro; one sister, Vadie Summer of Mena, AR; and 11 grandchildren.
Viewing will be today, 9 a.m. to 5 a.m., Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, 8:30 a.m. until service time.
