Murel LeFan

Graveside services for Murel LeFan, 92, of Longview, Texas, will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Nowata. Friends may visit at Rice Funeral Service from 6:30-7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 17. Arrangements are entrusted to Rader Funeral Home of Longview and Rice Funeral Service. Mrs. LeFan died Sunday, Oct. 15 in Longview following a lengthy illness.

Born Aug. 19, 1914, in Cass, Arkansas to Patrick Joseph and Lottie May Goznell Griffin, she attended schools in Winganon, Okla. In 1935, Murel married Ellis Redmon Clymore and settled in Ponca City, Oklahoma where they raised three children, Leon, Carol and Garland.

Murel was a homemaker and seamstress. Everything she did was done wth laughter. She loved her family, church, gardening and cooking.

At the death of Mr. Clymore in 1969, Murel moved to Claremore to be near her family. She was an active member of the Claremore Church of Christ where she met and married L.C. LeFan in 1976. Mr. LeFan preceded her in death in 1993.

With the onset of Alzheimers disease, Mrs. LeFan moved to Longview, Texas in 1996.

She is survived by a brother, John Griffin of Tulsa; son, Leon Clymore and his wife, Luella, of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Carol Park and her husband, Jack, of Longview; son, Garland Clymore and his wife, Paula, of Albuquerque, N.M.; five grandchildren, Shara Kipp of Longview, Brenda Alexander also of Longview, Trisha Clymore of Decatur, Ga., Lewis Clymore of Snellville, Ga., Mark Clymore of Loganville, Ga.; ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Summer Meadows for their kindness and support during Mrs. LeFan’s long illness.

Mary Sue McCollum

Memorial service for Mary Sue McCollum will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Chapel with Rev. Mike Clark officiating.

Mary lost her battle with breast cancer on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, at her home at the age of 62.

She is survived by her children: Peggy Williams and husband, Kevin of Foyil, Jerri Massey and husband, Rowdy of Chelsea, and Jim McCollum of Claremore; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her sister and best friend, Cherokee Herd and husband, Henry of Foyil.

Ruby Powell

A graveside service for Ruby Powell was held at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 23, 2007 at Oakhaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Rice Funeral Service. Ruby passed away Tuesday, Nov. 20 at Grove Nursing Home where she had been a recent resident.

Ruby was born Oct. 20, 1918 in Baxter Springs, Kan., to Burt and Tillie (Kelton) Pratt and received her education there. In 1935, Ruby and James D. Powell married. Four children blessed their union. The family moved to Claremore in 1950.

A devoted family woman, Ruby was an accomplished seamstress and cook. She was skilled at both handwork — embroidery, and sewing. She could cook many dishes without ever using a measuring spoon or cup. She simply had a feel for what would taste good. And everything always came out perfectly. She expressed her love by selflessly caring for her family.

In 1993 Mr. Powell passed away and on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, Ruby joined him.

Family members who survive Ruby and carry treasured memories of a beloved mother and grandmother include her children, Paul Powell and his wife, Colleen, of Enid, Becky Roberts and her husband, David, of Grove, and Judy Kelley and her husband, Tom, of Claremore; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her son-in-law, David Louderback of Tiawah. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sarah Louderback who passed away in 2001.

Jean Kreager

Services for Jean Kreager will be 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 26, 2007 at Claremore Assembly of God. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Rice Funeral Service. Her pastor, Rev. Dave Mewbourne, will officiate. Friends may visit at the funeral home from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Jean passed away at her home Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007. She was 81.

Born in Tulsa on Aug. 4, 1926 to Charles and Mary (Biby) Walker, Jean attended school in Tulsa, graduating from Webster High School. On Jan. 15, 1949, she and Bill Kreager were married in Coweta. They lived in Tulsa for a few years before moving to Claremore in 1968. Two daughters blessed their union, and when they were born, Jean left her work at American Airlines and became a full-time homemaker. After the girls were grown, Jean took at job as a cashier at Wal-Mart and worked there for a number of years.

In addition to raising her family, Jean enjoyed painting, making floral arrangements and ceramics.

Loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Jean is survived by her husband, Bill, of their home in Claremore; her daughters, Debbie Howell and her husband, Rusty, Vickie Propst and her husband, Richard; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren with one on the way. She was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

Wayne Charles Dorsey

Services for Verdigris native Wayne Charles Dorsey will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007 at Verdigris Assembly of God. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his wife, Bea, who passed away on March 28 of this year. Friends may visit at Rice Funeral Service from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday. Wayne passed away Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007. He was 86.

On Aug. 16, 1921, Wayne was born into the large and loving family of Albert and Stella Dorsey. After his school years, Wayne began working alongside his brothers.

As a young man he entered the Air Force, serving during WWII. After receiving an honorable discharge, Wayne made his home in New York.

On Nov. 24, 1945 he married Beatrice Caron and began a career as a machinist with Gleason Works. After more than 30 years he retired and returned to Oklahoma, where he spent his days taking care of his beloved Bea.

Those activities that occupied his spare time through the years were hunting, fishing and golf.

Wayne is survived by his siblings, Rev. Buford and Dorothy Dorsey, Albert “Chick” and Ellen Dorsey, and Wanda Dalton, all of Verdigris; Rev. Don and Norma Dorsey and Bill and Laverne Dorsey of Claremore; Ima Butler and Wesley of Wichita, and sister-in-law, June Dorsey, Verdigris. He was preceded by his parents, his wife, Bea, brother Jody and sister Rema Scott.

ROBERT EUGENE MATHEWS, SR.

Robert Eugene Mathews, Sr., resident of Claremore, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007 in Claremore, at the age of 58.

He was born Oct. 23, 1949 in Exeter, Calif., to Edward and Willa Dean (Wallace) Mathews. He was reared and completed his high school education while living in California.

Robert was a veteran of the armed forces having served his country honorably with the United States Army. He was married Aug. 1, 1970 in Dillon, S.C., to Paula Vath. He attended Spartan School of Aeronautics and earned his Associate of Applied Science Degree as a quality control technician in 1992.

In 2003 he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering Quality Control and Quality Assurance at Kennedy-Western University. He spent most of his life as an aeronautical and quality assurance manager for over 30 years.

Robert enjoyed woodworking and a variety of outdoor pastimes including fishing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandkids.

Loving family members include his wife of 37 years, Paula, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert E. Mathews, Jr. and his wife Angela, and Paul Mathews and his wife Tammy, both of Claremore; one daughter, Cara Ogden, of Claremore; eight grandchildren, Brittany Mathews, Ashley Mathews, Zachary Lewis, Stephanie Mathews, Michael Mathews, Emilee Mathews, Erin Mathews, Justin Jones, and a soon-to-be great-grandchild; two brothers, Larry Mathews and Richard Mathews, both of Joplin, Mo., and one sister, Colleen Fugate, of Joplin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Steve Mathews.

Visitation was held Thursday, Nov. 29, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral services were 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 30, 2007 at Mowery Funeral Service Chapel, with Pastor Dean Tucker officiating. Committal services and interment followed at Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery in Owasso. Serving as casket bearers were Robert E. Mathews, Jr., Richard Mathews, Jason Coleman, Michael Mathews, Zackary Lewis, Paul Mathews, Bobby Coleman, Craig Wright and Justin Jones. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.
