Alfred Weldon Stemen, 54, of Baker City, died Oct. 12, 2005, in Boise.
His funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Gray's West & Company Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave., followed by interment at Mount Hope Cemetery with military honors by the National Guard. Shirley McLin of Baker City will officiate.
Visitations will be today from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Gray's West & Co.
Alfred was born Nov. 12, 1950, in Boise to Alfred W. Stemen and Billie Katherin Burke Stemen. He joined the United States Army in 1968 and was assigned to H Troop 17th Armored Cavalry. Alfred served proudly and with honor in Vietnam, earning numerous Army decorations including two Purple Heart medals. The second Purple Heart medal was awarded after Alfred suffered combat wounds, which caused the amputation of both legs.
While recovering from his injuries, he married Michel Ann Filtcher with whom he had four children. Alfred moved his family to Baker City in 1983. He was a quiet and proud man who loved his country and family above all else.
Alfred is survived by his sons: Randy Stemen of Boise, Cheyenne Stemen and his wife, Tammy, of La Grande, and Jeremy Stemen and his wife, Vicki, of Fort Irvin, Calif.; a daughter, Stephanie Stemen and her husband, Oran McClellan, of Sumter, S.C.; and seven grandchildren, Tristen, Joshua, Christian, Adrienne, Kayla, Sara and Ashley.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Alfred's name may be made to the Purple Heart Association or Disabled American Veteran's Association in care of Gray's West & Co., P.O. Box 726, Baker City, OR 97814.
Clyde Linscott
Clyde Wilmer Linscott, 81, died Oct. 11, 2005, at his home in Baker City.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Gray's West & Co. Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave. Pastor Monte Loyd of the Harvest Church Assembly of God will officiate. Childcare will be provided from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Harvest Church, 3720 Birch St. Friends are invited to join the family after the service for a potluck reception at the Harvest Church Fellowship Hall. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in a private family service.
Visitations will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Gray's West & Co.
Clyde was born on June 9, 1924, at St. Francis, Kan., to William and Nina Edmunds Linscott. In 1938, Clyde and his family moved to Weiser, Idaho. The family did not come to the Baker City area until 1941 when Clyde was 17.
He spent four years in the U.S. Army serving his country as a technical staff sergeant, 796 Engineers in the Philippines. After his service Clyde returned to Baker City.
On Sept. 18, 1947, Clyde was married to Thelma Francis VanCopponole.
He worked in logging from after the war until 1959. In 1961, he began operating a wrecking yard. He ran the wrecking yard until 1976, and in 1977 opened Linscott Welding. After four years of welding, Clyde returned to Linscott Auto Parts and continued the salvaging business until retirement in 1985.
Clyde's official retirement led to the building of a church, a school and procuring enough antiquities to cover all of the home acreage.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Frances VanCopponole Linscott, who died in 2000; a son, Alvin Eugene Linscott, who died in 1999; and his parents William and Nina Linscott.
Survivors include his children, Donna Lee Linscott of Baker City, Wesley Vann Linscott of Tempe, Ariz., Delbert Ray Linscott of La Grande and Douglas Wayne Linscott of Baker City; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Ethel Patterson
Ethel Hazel Patterson, 97, of John Day, died Oct. 9, 2005, at Blue Mountain Nursing Home in Prairie City.
Her graveside memorial service will be Saturday at the Fox Cemetery in Fox.
Ethel was born on Aug. 11, 1908, at Fox to George and Amanda Medlin Reed. She grew up in the Fox Valley and attended school at Cottonwood, John Day and Hood River.
In 1924, Ethel married John Smith at Hood River. She and John remained married for about 25 years before they divorced. She operated a dress shop and restaurant at Condon for a while. A few years later Ethel married Carl Patterson.
They lived at Mount Vernon, Baker City, and John Day. They also lived in Arizona where they ran a gas station and in Missouri where they had a chicken farm.
Ethel also worked as a beautician in Arkansas and ran an elevator in California for a hospital. Carl was a mail carrier at John Day and ran the stage from Condon to John Day. He died in 1995.
Ethel never had children, but had lots of nieces and nephews whom she helped raise. She was close to her family and friends and they all loved her dearly.
She loved attending family reunions at Fox and Raddue every year. Ethel had many hobbies, including crocheting, embroidery work and crafts. She really enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing and hunting. One year she bagged a seven-point buck and she always caught a lot of fish on her fishing trips.
Survivors include 11 nieces, Arvilla Harris of Fox Valley, Nyla Thomas, Ann Bailey, Nada Smutz, Karen Lormand, Aletha Patterson, Dorothy Shaffer, Carol Cline, Kayrene Qualles, Colleen Mead, and Donna Farrar; and four nephews, Daryl Moore, Dale Moore, Sherm Kahler and Bob Reed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and one brother.

Brian Steffen
Brian Scott Steffen, 29, died Oct. 5, 2005, at his mother's home in Baker City.
His memorial service was Saturday at Wade Williams Park. Shirley McLin of Baker City officiated.
Brian was born on Sept. 13, 1976, at Portland to Jeffrey Steffen and Cathy Steffen Vandiver. He was raised and educated at Cascade Locks.
Brian enjoyed the outdoors, working for Garry McLin, fishing, camping, and taking his dog Dutch to the 203 Pond and the woods to run.
"You will be missed and always be remembered and loved forever. May you rest in peace now Brian, " his family said.
Survivors include his mom and stepfather Cathy and Ron Vandiver; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Carlos Aguirre; niece and nephew, Madison and Domanick Aguirre; grandparents, LaVern and Marjorie Stubbs, Carmen Steffen and Ruth Vandiver and family; aunts and uncles, Joe and Rhonda Stubbs, Marion Stubbs, Jessie and Glenda Groves, John and Wanda Brunsec, Barbara and Erwin Olehaphon, Donna and Pete Habben, Mike and Dee-Dee Sampson, Mitch and Shelia Steffen, Rob and Patrica Steffen, Charlene and Ken Turner, Stewart Steffen, Danny and Debbie Vandiver, Mike Vandiver and family, Fred Vandiver and wife, Jim Vandiver, Rhonda Vandiver and David Brad; stepsiblings Dori and Richard Lamb, Donna Reedy and family, Carl Reedy, Mike Lunyou, Tony Lunyou, and Lee Donna Reedy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jeffrey Leon Steffen, and his grandfather, Lowell Leon Steffen.

Vickie Daughtrey
Vickie Daughtrey, 63, of Albuquerque, N.M., a former Baker City resident, died Oct. 6, 2005.
Her memorial service was Monday at French Mortuary in Albuquerque. Interment will be later next to her husband at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
Vickie was a native Oregonian. She grew up in Baker City and was a 1960 Baker High School graduate. She had plans of returning to the state. She was completing her master's degree in Family Studies at the University of New Mexico.
Survivors include her son, Curtis Stanley and his wife, Thelma; stepsons, Jim and Wade; stepdaughter, Sharon "Amber;" six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a sister, Dawn Hunter; a brother, Gordon Nash; and many other loving family members, including a special niece, Jennifer Torres.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norlan Daughtrey, who died in July 2005; and parents, Gordon and LaRecie Nash.

‘Mona' Boydstun
Ramona Lee "Mona" Boydstun, 62, of The Dalles, a former Baker City resident, died Oct. 4, 2005.
A family service will be scheduled later. There was a private cremation at Win-quatt Crematory. Interment was at The Dalles Threemile Odd Fellows Cemetery.
She was born on Oct. 18, 1942, at Denver, the third of four daughters born to Carl Robert and Sybil Grace Wayman Harlin. She grew up in Baker City and was a 1960 Baker High School graduate.
She married Robert Boydstun on June 12, 1960, at Baker City. They had lived at The Dalles for 35 years.
Mona was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, decorating, gardening and being with her family. She also worked for Safeway pharmacy for nine years.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Robert Boydstun of The Dalles; her children and their spouses, Robert Boydstun IV and Corissa of Portland, and Amy Lee and Russell Latham of BZ Corners, Wash.; grandchildren, Robert Boydstun V, Miranda Boydstun, Maggie Latham and Wyatt Latham; her sisters, Roxane Beeler of Portland, Judy Henjum of Kennewick, Wash., and Jackie Calhoun of North Powder.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

‘Jackie' April
Jacqueline Marie "Jackie" April, 75, of Baker City, died Oct. 7, 2005, at La Grande, Oregon.
By her wishes, there will be no memorial or funeral service. Coles Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Jackie was born on July 16, 1930, at Baker City to Edward Alvin Davis and Hattie Meyers Davis of North Powder. She grew up at North Powder, where her grandparents, John Samuel and Susan Dealy Davis, homesteaded. She was married to Louis Norman April, on July 20, 1968.
Jackie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband Louie; two sisters, Susie and Joyce; and a son, Albert Hingst.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda Robinson of Omaha, Neb., Theresa April of Crabtree and Terri Nichols of Baker City; three sons; two brothers; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

George Bruhn Sr.
George Clifford Bruhn Sr., 74, of Baker City, died Oct. 5, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Health Services.
His graveside service was Saturday at Mount Hope Cemetery. Truscott Irby of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, No. 3048, officiated. The Oregon Army National Guard presented military rites in his honor.
George was born on July 1, 1931, at Sandpoint, Idaho, to Ted and Eva Bruhn. He was raised and educated at Sandpoint and Naples, Idaho.
George joined the U.S. Marines in 1950 and served during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He attained the rank of sergeant E5. George served his country for 16 years and was honorably discharged in 1966.
On April 2, 1957, he married Clintina V. Cross at Naples, Idaho. He worked in a variety of jobs in his lifetime and then found the love of the woods and worked as a logger for many years.
George enjoyed many things in his life before and after retiring in 1993. He especially enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping and spending time with family and grandchildren. He was a proud papa.
George loved his family dearly and wanted the best for them. He will be fondly remembered by family and friends, most especially for his great smile and joking personality. He will be truly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Tina; daughter, Marla, and her husband, Casey Anderson, of Halfway; son, George Bruhn Jr., and his wife, Peggy, of Baker City; daughter, Jennifer Steele of Baker City; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson; a sister, Pearl Hoffine of Easton, Wash.; brother, Gary Bruhn of Spokane, Wash.; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
George was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Clifford, who died in 2001; and brothers, Richard and Butch.

Vivian Foye
Vivian Jeannette Foye, 93, a resident of the Evergreen Health Home in La Grande died Oct. 3, 2005.
Her memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Oct. 15, 2005, at her home at Medical Springs, 50551 Big Creek Road.
Vivian was born on Aug. 21, 1912, at Union to Ben H. and Mildred Schoenauer Jory. Her early years were spent mostly in Eastern Oregon. She attended schools at Mission, Umatilla and Hermiston and was a 1931 Union High School graduate.
She married Nesden Wright Foye on Aug. 9, 1935. Except for a short time spent at Oakland, Calif., during the Depression, she spent the rest of her life at Medical Springs. Vivian and Ned operated the Ox Bow Guest Ranch in the 1940s. At that time the Medical Springs Highway was being paved and they cooked for the road crew.
During the 1950s, they owned and operated the store at Medical Springs. Vivian served as postmaster there for 28 years, retiring in the fall of 1978.
She was a member of the National Auxiliary of Postmasters and a member of the Sons and Daughters of Oregon Pioneers. Her Jory ancestors came to Oregon in one of the wagon trains of 1847.
Cooking, gardening and photography were some of her lifelong pursuits. The mountains and wildlife were always a source of pleasure to her. She raised African violets and gave them to many people.
She loved having her neighbors stop by for a visit or to pick up their mail at the store. Her family was a great joy to her and she was a trusting, loyal friend to her many friends and neighbors.
She received loving care and consideration at the Evergreen Health Home in La Grande for the past three years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ned; her son, Ned Jr.; her brother, Vernon "Bud" Jory; and sisters, Maxine and Louise.
Survivors include her daughter, Janice Baxter, and her husband, Jerry, of Medical Springs; grandchildren, Layne Roberts of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Kent Baxter of Beaverton, Kurt Baxter of Provo, Utah, Danalee Jensen of Nyssa, Kitt Baxter of Medical Springs, Ryan Baxter of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; her daughter-in-law, Judy Foye of Yakima, Wash.; grandchildren, Brad Foye and Scott Foye of Yakima, Wash., and Kim Foye and Kyle Foye of Salt Lake City; and 20 great-grandchildren.
