A. L. Marks

A. L. Marks, Jr., 82, of Upper Allen Twp., Mechanicsburg, died Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Harrisburg Hospital.
He retired in 1991 as C.E.O. of Pennsylvania Professional Insurance Agents, Assn., Harrisburg; a Navy Veteran of WWII; a former member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Mechanicsburg. He received his BS from the University of Pittsburgh in 1951, and later his CPCU and CAE Designations. He began his career in Johnstown working for the Hill Insurance and Gulf Insurance Companies. He later became the District Representative for Michigan Millers Mutual Ins. Co. before beginning his 19 years at PIA. He was Past President for the Laurel Highlands Chapter of CPCU, The Pennsylvania Society of Assoc. Executives, and Sparks Club. He was the founder of the Academy of Producer Insurance Studies and V.P. for the National Society of PIA Executives. During his many years in Insurance he won numerous awards and achievements. He served as Past President for the West Shore Country Club, and was a member of the West Shore Chamber of Commerce, Harrisburg Kiwanis Club and a charter member of PSAE. He was a Mason belonging to the Blue Lodge of Johnstown.
Born March 6, 1926, in Temple, TX, he was the son of the late A. L. Sr. and Carrie (Bowman) Marks. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Joanne L. (Dietz) Marks; his daughter, Kathleen S. Rabert of Fleetwood; his son, Dr. Jeffrey A. Marks and his wife Casey of Grantham; three grandchildren, Cayleigh, Jason and Joshua. Also surviving are his sister Margaret of California, and Elizabeth of Texas and brothers Donald and Robert of Texas.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday in Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland, with the Rev. Gale M. Gregor officiating. Entombment will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Lower Allen Twp. Visitation will be held 11 AM– 12 PM Thursday in the funeral home.

Ernest B. Garman
March 27, 2008
Ernest B. Garman, 100, of New Cumberland died unexpectedly, Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Harrisburg Hospital.
Born February 25, 1908 in Treverton, PA to the late Bert E. and Versa (Dunkelberger) Garman, he was the widower of Josephine M. Garman and was preceded in death by brothers Harry, Roy and sister Mildred. Ernie experienced much in his 100 years of life. As a young man he watched Civil War veterans march in the Memorial Day parades. He played center in 1923 for the Treverton High Basketball Team in the Eastern-State Semi-final. Ernie also worked in the coal mines to earn money for business school. He proudly served his country during WWII in the US Navy aboard the USS Volans in the Pacific theater. Ernie was a retired accountant from the former George C. Hoopy Insurance Agency of Lemoyne, a member of St. Theresa Parish, New Cumberland; American Legion Post 143, VFW Post 7415 and West Shore Senior Citizen Center. He was fondly known as Dzia-Dzia to his granddaughters and numerous family friends. His quiet, gentle way will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
He is survived by his son, Michael E. and his wife Fran of New Cumberland; three granddaughters, Kelli A. Recher of New Cumberland, Kathryn Jo Garman of Pittsburgh, and Abigail C. Garman of New Cumberland; a great-granddaughter, Mari Jo Garman; and his very close friend Fran Gruber.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am Monday at his church with The Rev. Michael McFadden officiating. Burial will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Lower Allen Twp. Viewings will be from 6-8pm Sunday with Scripture services at 7:30pm and 9:30 to 10am Monday at Parthemore Funeral Home, New Cumberland.

Col. Evan Ross Davison, U.S.Army, retired
March 28, 2008
Col. Evan Ross Davison, U.S. Army Ret., 82, of New Cumberland, PA, died Friday, March 28, 2008, at Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Twp.
He retired as a U.S. Army Colonel and was a veteran of the Pacific theater in WWII, the Korean War, and two tours of duty in Vietnam. Among many honors for his military service, Ross was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, the Legion of Merit (twice) and various campaign service medals. Following his Army career, he worked for the former Dougherty and Twigg Real Estate Company which then became Jack Gaughen Realtor. He attended St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland, and was a member of the Military Officers Assn. of America; the Chartier Club of New Cumberland, West Shore B.P.O.E. Camp Hill; Riverview Golf Course, New Cumberland, Harrisburg Foreign Policy Assn; and was a 25-year volunteer and former president of West Shore Meals on Wheels. Ross obtained his BS from Syracuse University and MBA from Babson College in MA. Born in 1925 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, he was the son of the late Ernest C. and Christine (Ross) Davison, and was the first in his family to become an American citizen.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce M. Schneid Davison; five sons, Paul M. of Newburyport, MA, Mark C. (Mary) of Webster, NY, Peter E. (Melanie) of Pittsford, NY, John W. of New Delhi, India; James A. (Lenka) of Prague, Czech Republic; two brothers, Rev. E. Burton Davison of New Paltz, NY, and William G. Davison of NY, NY; eight grandchildren, Paul, Christopher, Kathleen, Casey, Matthew, Rebecca, Sara and Jakub.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11AM Tuesday in St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland, with the Rev. J. Michael McFadden as celebrant. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Hanover Twp. Viewing will be held 6 to 8 PM Monday in Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland, with the scripture service beginning at 6:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, Inc., 1501 NW 9th Ave, Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136-1494 or to the charity of your choice.

Helen E. Roller
March 28, 2008
Helen E. Roller, 95, of Etters, Newberry Twp. died Friday March 28, 2008 in Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Twp.
She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Etters and will be remembered for her many gifts of love including the many Afghan blankets given to so many friends and family members. Helen was born August 2, 1912 in Steelton to the late Joseph and Anna (Aman) Szekeres. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of over fifty-five years, George; five brothers, three sisters, two daughters, a grandson, a granddaughter, and four great grandchildren.
She is survived by four daughters, Helen E. Hoover of Etters, Rose K. Sipe of Manchester, Margaret Price of Harrisburg, and Elizabeth A. Wolf of Etters; four sons, George J. of Yorktown, VA, Harry S. of Bressler, Steelton, John F. of Etters, and Frederick G. of Wormleysburg; two sisters, Anna Gabler of Bressler, Steelton and Rose Kepp of Oberlin, Steelton; a brother Joseph Szekeres of Steelton; twenty three grandchildren; thirty four great grandchildren; and sixteen great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held in her church on Wednesday April 2, 2008 at 10 am. Burial will be in Paddletown Cemetery, Newberry Twp. Viewing will be from 6-8 pm on Tuesday in Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, New Cumberland.
Memorial contributions may be made to either her church at 470 Yocumtown Rd. Etters, PA 17319 or to Make a Wish Foundation of South Central PA, 2649-B Carnegie Rd. York, PA 17402.

Paul J. Rodrigo, Sr.
March 28, 2008
Paul J. Rodrigo, Sr., 84, of Fairview Twp., New Cumberland, died Friday, March 28, 2008, at Harrisburg Hospital.
He was born on January 15, 1924, in Bound Brook, NJ, the son of the late Simon and Lorenza (Alonso) Rodrigo. He was the widower of Delphine A. (Kurkowski) Rodrigo and was also preceded in death by a brother Frank and a sister, Catherine Pinto. Paul served during WWII during the Battle of the Bulge with the 461 Anti-Aircraft Battalion, France and the 390 Military Police Battalion, Germany. He transferred from Belle Meade Army Depot, NJ, to serve with the commissary support division at the former New Cumberland Army Depot. He served one year civilian duty during the Viet Nam conflict at Cam Rahn Bay. He retired from the former Defense Depot, Mechanicsburg and later served as Sergeant of Arms with the PA House of Representatives. He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland. During Paul’s lifetime he was active with the St. Theresa Troop 192, Boy Scouts of America and the Athletic Assn., bowling and slow pitch softball leagues and golf. Known for his love of sports, he was a fan of the Trinity High School basketball programs, NY Yankees, NY Giants and Notre Dame.
Surviving are two sons, Paul J., Jr.and wife Sandra F. of New Cumberland, Thomas P. and wife Susan E. of Camp Hill; three daughters, Delphine A. "Dollie" and Dennis J. Fink of Carlisle, Marian and Jerome S. McGraw of Mechanicsburg, Rose and James R. Agnew of Mechanicsburg; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren and three expected great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 pm on Monday in his church with the Rev. Joseph L. Stahura as celebrant. Burial with military honors will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Upper Allen Twp. Viewing will be held 6 – 8 pm Sunday and 12:30 – 1:30 pm Monday in Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity High School Boys and Girls Basketball programs, 3601 Simpson Ferry Rd., Camp Hill, PA 17011.

Samuel A. Schreckengaust, Jr.
March 30, 2008
Samuel A. Schreckengaust, Jr., 93, son of the late Samuel A. and Luetta Schreckengaust, passed away on Sunday March 30, 2008 in Bethany Village, Mechanicsburg. He was born in Harrisburg on September 5, 1914 and resided in the Harrisburg area throughout his life.
His Harrisburg education was from Steele Elementary School, Governor Pinchot Keystone School and William Penn High School. In 1935 he graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Gettysburg College and in 1938 he obtained his law degree from the Dickinson School of Law, Carlisle. Upon graduation from Dickinson Law School he was an associate with the law firm of Weiss and Rhoads. In 1943 he was commissioned as a Captain in the U.S. Army and assigned as an instructor in the Judge Advocate General’s program at the University of Michigan. Upon his release from active duty in 1946 he joined the law firm of McNees, Wallace and Nurick. For many years he was the firm’s Managing Partner before being selected by the Hershey Foods Corporation as the corporation’s first Chief General Counsel. He was a member of the Board of Directors at Hershey Foods, Milton Hershey School, and the Hershey Trust Company. Additionally, he was a member of the Dauphin County Bar Association and the American Bar Association. A strong supporter of Gettysburg College, he was a member of the Board of Fellows and the Board of Trustees.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara Starr Schreckengaust of Mechanicsburg and Stone Harbor, NJ; son John and his wife Audrey of Mechanicsburg, son Raymond and his wife Susan of Camp Hill, daughter Mary Cantone of Ocean City, NJ, son Mark and his wife Carol of Harrisburg and daughter Elizabeth Tomlinson and husband Andrew of Haddonfield, NJ. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A private family service will be held. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Parthemore Funeral Home in New Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gettysburg College, Campus Box 423, 300 N. Washington Street, Gettysburg, PA 17325.

JoAnn Dumm

JoAnn Dum, 52, of Lisburn, died Wednesday, April 02, 2008, at Harrisburg Hospital.
She was a Day Care Aid at Highland Elementary School, Camp Hill, and an employee of her family’s business, Hasko Jewelers, New Cumberland; an honorary graduate of Indiana University of PA; a 1973 Graduate of Mechanicsburg High School where she was an Honor Society member and enjoyed a tour of Europe; the membership chair of the Keystone State Oliver Collectors Assn.; a member of the Mason Dixon Oliver Cletrac Collectors Assn. and a former member of Eastern Star, Trio Chapter 544, Mechanicsburg. She was also an avid collector of The Muppets memorabilia.
Born on May 28, 1955, in Carlisle, she was the daughter of Creedon J. and Armillda F. (Frownfelter) Fertenbaugh of Mechanicsburg. She was the widow of Lynn S. Dum. In addition to her parents, she is survived by four brothers, Eric J. Fertenbaugh of Lewisberry, Craig E. Fertenbaugh of Jacksonville, FL, Kevin E. Fertenbaugh of Grants Pass, OR, and Bryon L. Fertenbaugh of Carlisle; two nieces, Kaitlyn and Madeline, and three nephews, Mason, Jonathan and Joseph; her two beloved dogs, Duke and Duchess.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday in Parthemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, New Cumberland, with the Rev. Carl Ford Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Upper Allen Twp. Viewing will be held 6 – 8 PM Sunday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Four Diamonds Fund, Penn State Hershey Medical Center, P.O. Box 852, Hershey, Pa 17033.
