Nov. 13, 1912 - Sept. 1, 2001
Mother & Grandmother
Ethel M. Yerger, age 88, of 101 West Main Street, Adamstown, Lancaster County, died Saturday at 5:30 PM in her residence under the care of Hospice of Lancaster County. Born in Robeson Township, Berks County, PA, she was a daughter of the late Victor and Rosie (Blankenbiller) Hicks. Her husband, Robert C. Yerger, died November 25, 1994. She was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Swartzville, and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and reading. Ethel had assisted her husband in the operation of their former business, R. C. Yerger Appliance Store, Adamstown, for over 50 years. Surviving are 3 daughters, Betty L., marriage to Paul L. Leisey, Reinholds, PA; Joyce L., marriage to R. Clifford Sweigart, Akron, PA; and Rosemary Johnston, Adamstown, PA; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. Also surviving is a sister, Verna (Hicks) Glass, Adamstown; and a brother, Brooke Grubb, Reading, PA. Mrs. Yerger was preceded in death by a son, Robert C. Jr., and a sister, Mildred (Grubb) Becker. The funeral ceremony will be held from our parlor on Wednesday, September 5, 2001, at 11:00 AM with her pastor, The Reverend William E. Hoch, officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service with burial immediately following in Laureldale Cemetery, Berks County.

Ralph H. Youndt
March 2, 1917 - Nov. 18, 2001
RALPH H. YOUNDT, 84, of 597 Fivepointville Road, Brecknock Township, Denver, died November 18, 2001 at 12:07 PM in Mt Sinai Hospital, New York City, New York where he had been a patient since October 25, 2001. He was the husband of Fern (Smith) Youndt. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. Born in Brecknock Township, he was the son the late Charles & Jennie (Hornberger) Youndt. He started Butchering at the age of 14 with a stand at the former Windsor Street Market, Reading, then at the Penn Street Farmers Market, Reading until 1995. He worked with his brothers in the business – Charles Youndt & Sons – until they sold the business. He worked for 65 years as a butcher. He was a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Reamstown where he was a former Council member. He was a member of Howell Lodge No. 405 F.& A.M., a member of Rajah Temple A.A.S.R., Reading, and a member and founder of the Muddy Creek Hunting Lodge. He Loved Hunting & Fishing. In Addition to his wife he is survived by 1 Daughter – Lynette Y. wife of Gerald Chatanow of New York City, NY. 2 Brothers – Pherl husband of Verna (Hainley) Youndt of Leola, Donald husband of Nancy (Reider) Youndt of Denver. Also 3 Sisters – Florence widow of Russell Weinhold of Ephrata, Edna widow of David Musser of Emmaus, Stella widow of James Hawthorne of St. Petersburg, Florida. Also are 2 Granddaughters – Jill & Ivy Chatanow. He is Pre-deceased by a sister and 2 brothers.
Ralph's viewing will be held Thanksgiving evening, Thursday, November 22, 2001, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM from our funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. The funeral service will be held Friday, November 23, 2001, at 10:00 AM from Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, South Reamstown Road, Reamstown, with The Reverend Glenn A. Beard, Jr. officiating. The burial will follow in Salem Union Cemetery, Reamstown.

Fern S. Youndt
February 25, 1917 - July 8, 2005
Fern S. Youndt, 88, of 597 Fivepointville Road, Denver, ( Brecknock Township ) Lancaster County, died unexpectedly in her residence Friday, July 8, 2005. Born February 25, 1917, in Reamstown, Lancaster County, she was a daughter of the late Lester Smith and the late Alta E. (Fritz) Steffy. Her husband, Ralph H. Youndt, died November 18, 2001. She was an 80 year member of the former Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Reamstown, where she was active in the ladies sewing group. Fern assisted her late husband for many years in their family business, Charles Youndt & Son, Fivepointville, having tended their stands at various area markets. A 1934 graduate of East Cocalico High School, Reamstown, she attended every annual reunion held since graduation. Surviving is a daughter, Lynette Y., wife of Gerald Chatanow, New York City ; and 2 granddaughters, Ivy, wife of Dr. Seth Epstein, East Meadow, NY ; and Jill Chatanow, San Francisco, CA. A brother, Clarence F. Steffy, predeceased her.
A viewing will be held on Monday evening, July 11, 2005, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at our parlors. Funeral services celebrating Fern's life will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at 10:00 AM from our firm with The Rev. William E. Hoch officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Union Cemetery, Reamstown, Lancaster County, PA.

Melvin H. Youndt "Jake"
November 23, 1919 - April 12, 2005
Melvin H. “Jake” Youndt, 85, formerly of Denver, Lancaster County, died Tuesday afternoon, April 12, 2005, at 2:20 PM in Fairmount Homes, Farmersville, Lancaster County, where he resided since June 1999. Born November 23, 1919, in Fivepointville, Lancaster County, he was a son of the late Raymond and Susie (Good) Youndt. His wife, Esther M. (Leinbach) Youndt, died May 29, 1999. He had retired from Good’s Potato Chips, Adamstown, and had worked earlier for Elmer Brendle Masonry, Fivepointville and Bollman Hat Company, Adamstown. Jake was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Adamstown VFW, enjoyed fishing, hunting, wood burning and visiting his cabin in Lycoming County. Surviving: son, Clifford L., (Audrey Reddig) Youndt, Reamstown; daughter, Joanne F. (Clarence Lynn) Gantz, Ephrata; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Hazel Martin, Lititz; Erla (Eugene) Beiler, Lela (Henry) Horning, & Lillian Weber, all Mohnton; Ruth Ann (Lamar) Hollinger, Myerstown; Harriet (Paul) Brackbill, Lancaster; Grace (Irvin) Horning, Ephrata & Irene Horst, Millersville; brothers, Samuel (Janet Hurst) Weber, Denver; Richard (Barbara Martin) Weber, Wellsboro; & George Weber, Ephrata. He was predeceased by brothers, Carl, Clair & Leon Youndt.
A viewing will be held on Friday, April 15, 2005, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at the Chapel of Fairmount Homes, 333 Wheat Ridge Drive, Ephrata, PA.
Also, a viewing will be held from our parlors on Saturday, April 16, 2005, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM with the ceremony celebrating "Jake's" life to begin at 11:00 AM. The Reverend William E. Hoke will officiate. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Adamstown, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

S. Isabel Young
November 13, 1941 - September 2, 2002
S. Isabel Young, 60, of 116 Marion Terrace, Ephrata, Lancaster County, died Monday evening at 7:52 PM in the Ephrata Community Hospital where she was a patient for one week. Her death followed a two year illness. Born in Reamstown, Lancaster County, she was a daughter of the late D. Weidler “Puppy” and Irene F. (Stricker) Rathman. She was the wife of Larry L. Young for 28 years on May 11th. She was a member and former Sunday school teacher of Salem United Church of Christ, Reamstown. Last working in June 2000, she was employed for 28 years as a medical secretary for Reading Hospital & Medical Center, West Reading. Earlier she was employed by Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. A 1959 graduate of Cocalico High School, she belonged to the “Crazy Eights Card Club” and the “Domino Club” of the Ephrata area. She also enjoyed gardening. Surviving in addition to her husband, is a son, Kurt A. Schnader, Ephrata; a daughter, Kris R. (Schnader) Petrecca, Ephrata, PA; 4 grandchildren; 2 sisters, C. Virginia, marriage to Donald M. Wenger, Ephrata; and Ardelle, marriage to P. Eugene Moyer, Ephrata.
Isabel's viewing will be held from our parlor on Friday evening, September 6, 2002, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. The funeral ceremony will be held in our funeral home on Saturday, September 7, 2002, at 11:00 AM with her pastor, The Reverend Stephen E. Hollinger, officiating.
Interment will take place on Monday at 10:00AM in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Lebanon County, PA. We ask that those persons desiring to drive in procession to the Cemetery meet at the funeral home on Monday at 8:30 AM, Sharp!

Lew A. Zieber
July 22, 1924 - September 14, 2003
Lew A. Zieber, 79, of 21 Hinden Homes, Denver, died Sunday evening at 8:45 PM in Ephrata Community Hospital where he was a patient for the past three days. Born in Adamstown, Lancaster County, he was a son of the late Emerson and Daisy (Krick) Zieber. His wife, Fern (Trostle) Zieber, died July 21, 2003. Retiring in 1985, he had been employed for 30 years as a welder with the former Parrish Pressed Steel, Reading. He was a 1942 graduate of the former Shillington High School. Zieber was a staff sergeant in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was a member of the Adamstown & Reinholds VFW, the Adamstown Rod & Gun Club, and enjoyed shooting pool and deep sea fishing. Surviving are 4 daughters, Linda Lou Goodman, Reading, PA; Sandy Moyer, and Lynn M. Zieber, both of Sinking Spring, PA; and Lori Zieber, Laporte, IN; 6 grandchildren; 2 step-sons, Sheron L., marriage to Karen (Schwartz) Schaefer, Womelsdorf, PA; and Randall P., marriage to Tina (Latshaw) Schaefer, Denver, PA; 3 step-daughters, Diane R. (Schaefer), marriage to William L. Ressler, and Kay L. (Schaefer), marriage to Scott H. Ressler, both of Robesonia, PA; and Pamela J. (Schaefer), marriage to Lester Strunk, Richland, PA; 9 step-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandson.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2003, at 11:00 AM with The Reverend Thomas Ross officiating in Wyomissing Cemetery, Gouglersville, Berks County, PA.

Robert L. Youndt
October 4, 1919 - July 18, 2004
Robert L. Youndt, 84, of 1075 Dry Tavern Road, Denver, Lancaster County, died Sunday evening at 11:10 PM in Lancaster General Hospital where he was a patient for four days. Born in Fivepointville, Lancaster County, he was a son of the late Allen and Frances (Lorah) Youndt. He was the husband of Catherine M. (Good) Youndt for 57 years on April 27, 2004. He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Swartzville, Lancaster County. Robert and his brothers operated Youndt Brothers Home Dressed Meats, Fivepointville, for nearly 50 years, supplying numerous Lancaster County restaurants and stores with specialties such as scrapple, ring bologna and sausage. They also had market stands at Ephrata, Shillington, Meadowbrook and Twin Slope Markets. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan and had a great knowledge of baseball and sports in general. He had also been very active in bowling leagues during his lifetime. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters, Lorraine J. (Youndt), marriage to Howard S. Veisz, Rye, NY; and Betty J. Youndt, Del Mar, CA; 4 grandchildren; 4 sisters, Mae (Youndt) Henly, and Edith (Youndt) Weinhold, both of Fivepointville, PA; Fern (Youndt) Oberholtzer, Wellsboro, PA; and Grace (Youndt), marriage to Kent Hirneisen, Sinking Spring, PA; and 3 brothers, Lester, marriage to Theresa (Klaster) Youndt, New Holland, PA; James, marriage to Barbara (Leid) Youndt, Fivepointville, PA; and Rev. Mark, marriage to Connie (Johnson) Youndt, Richmond, VA. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Ray, Luke and William.
A viewing will be held on Thursday morning, July 22, 2004, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM from Peace United Church of Christ, 37 East Swartzville Road, Denver, PA 17517. The funeral ceremony celebrating his life will begin at 10:00 AM with his pastor, The Reverend William E. Hoch, officiating. Burial will follow in Muddy Creek Cemtery, Swartzville, Lancaster County, PA.
The family requests that rather than flowers, please remember Rob with contributions to the Memorial Fund of his church at the above address.
