Ella W. Zimmerman, 80, of 225 Napierville Road, Ephrata, died Monday, March 12, 2007, at her home after a lengthy illness. Born in New Holland, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Susanna (Weaver) Hoover. She was married 56 years on January 14 to Reuben Zimmerman. She was a homemaker and a member of the Martindale Mennonite Church of the Groffdale Conference. Surviving in addition to her husband are three sons, Irvin, married to Lydia Ann (Sauder) Zimmerman of New Holland, Ivan Zimmerman of Lebanon, and Luke, married to Marian (Zimmerman) Zimmerman of Denver; four daughters, Susie, married to Amos Zimmerman of Mifflinburg, Ella, married to Curvin Burkholder of Penn Yan, NY, Alta, married to Alvin Zeiset of East Earl, and Verna, married to Harold Zimmerman of Denver; 42 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; four sisters, Martha Groff of Farmersville, Emma Garman of East Earl, Alta Rhodes of Ephrata, and Anna Hoover of New Holland; and three brothers, John Hoover of East Earl, Amos Hoover of New Holland, and Ivan, married to Lydia (Hoover) Hoover of Kentucky. Preceding her in death is a daughter, Edna Martin; five brothers, Ammon, Noah, Daniel, David, and Aaron Hoover; and a sister Mary Weaver. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 16 at 9 am at the late home with further services at 9:30 am at the Martindale Mennonite Church with the Bishop Titus Martin officiating. J. Leonard Dickinson

J. Leonard Dickinson, 90, formerly of 212 W. Main St., Ephrata, died Sunday March 11, 2007 at Ephrata Manor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth L. (Hamel) Dickinson in 2001. Born in St. Peters, he was the son of the late W. Harry and Elizabeth (Noble) Dickinson. Len retired in 1972 from DANA Corp. where he was a production worker. After retirement, he worked as a guard at the Limerick Power Plant, sold Cadillacs and Buicks in Phoenixville, and major appliances for Boscov’s. He was a member of the Berean Bible Church, Ephrata. He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Dickinson, two grandchildren: John L. Dickinson III and Denise Torres; four great-grandchildren; and a brother David. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruthie Dickinson, and a son, John L. Dickinson, Jr. His funeral will be held at the Berean Bible Church, 675 Lincoln Garden Rd., Ephrata on Friday at 10 AM. Interment will be in the Coventryville Methodist Cemetery. Robert E. (Fuzzy) O'Brien

Robert E. (Fuzzy) O’Brien, 88, formerly of Narvon, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 9, 2007, while a resident at Fairmount Homes. He passed away peacefully with his family surrounding him. He had Parkinson disease. A member of Twin Valley Bible Chapel, he worked for John S. Ewell and Herbert Ewell as a truck mechanic for a total of 37 ½ years. Robert was retired for over 23 years and he loved to help farmers take their produce to market and overall help wherever he could. He was lovingly cared for by the staff of Fairmount Homes, who we truly appreciate everything they did for him very much. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Mary M. (Miller) O'Brien, of Narvon, married January 1, 1939; two sons, Daniel and Curtis O'Brien both of Narvon; two daughters, Dorothy Wilkinson of Lititz and Mary M. White of York; 10 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death is a daughter, Pauline Getz in 1995. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 12 at 2 pm at Fairmount Homes, Wheatridge Chapel, 333 Wheatridge Dr., Ephrata with the Reverend James Hertzler officiating. Robert E. Kurtz

Robert E. Kurtz, 90, of 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, died Friday, March 9, 2007 at Garden Spot Village where he has resided since 2001. Born in Salisbury Twp., he was the son of the late George E. and Margie (Haines) Kurtz. His wife, Pauline A. (Jackson) Kurtz, died in 1969. Mr. Kurtz retired in 1976 after 25 years as a plumbing and heating contractor in New Holland. He was a member of Pequea Presbyterian Church where he formerly served on the board as an elder. He was also a former member of the New Holland Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow, and also the Young Men’s Business Assoc. of New Holland. He served in the US Army in Okinawa and the Philippines during WWII. Surviving are a son, Robert D., married to Judy (Coy) Kurtz of New Holland; three grandchildren, Vicki, married to Dwain Engel of Leola, Sherri, married to James Shirk of Paradise, and Robert, married to Karen (Miller) Kurtz of Lititz; four great grandchildren, Michael and Erin Shirk, and Aubree and Alyssa Kurtz; and a sister, Helen Shirk of New Holland. Preceding him in death are two brothers, John and Leslie Kurtz; and three sisters, Stella Plank, Sue Ressler, and Charlotte Sensenig. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 14 at 3 pm at the Pequea Presbyterian Cemetery with the Reverend Bill Elliot officiating. Rosemberg T. Rojas, 73, of1601 W. 4th St., Wilmington, DE, died Saturday, March 3, 2007 in Wilmington. Born in Colombia, he was the son of the late Anacleto and Jacoba (Torres) Rojas. He was a pastor all of his life. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 10 at 11 am at the Iglesia Menonita de New Holland, 24 N. Roberts Ave., New Holland. David H. Martin, 83, of 645 New Holland Road, New Holland, died Thursday, March 1, 2007 at Lancaster General Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Earl Twp., he was the son of the late Menno and Elizabeth (Hoover) Martin. He celebrated his 61st wedding anniversary on Nov. 29 to Lena Z. (Martin) Martin. He was a farmer, retiring in 1987, and a member of the New Holland Mennonite Church of the Groffdale Conference. Surviving in addition to his wife are 12 children, Ivan, married to Arlene (Nolt) Martin of McClure, Harlan, married to Erma (Horst) Martin of Stevens, Mary Ann, married to Harry Garman of Narvon, David, married to Wilma (Showalter) Martin of New Bethlehem, Verna, married to Reuben Reiff, Lena, married to Ivan B. Martin, and Earl, married to Mary (Martin) Martin all of Mifflinburg, Ervin, married to Darlene (Herman) Martin of Richfield, Leroy, married to Vera (Martin) Martin of Shunk, Lloyd, married to Marilyn (Groff) Martin of Talmage, James, married to Thelma (Leid) Martin of New Holland, and Allen, married to Pauline (Zimmerman) Martin of Swengel; 64 grandchildren; 88 great grandchildren; six brothers, Menno, married to Anna (Martin) Martin of Goodville, Daniel, married to Lydia (Hurst) Martin of Penn Yan, NY, Noah, married to Martha (Zeiset) Martin of New Holland, Allen Martin of Reamstown, Aaron, married to Dorothy (Zimmerman) Martin of Denver, and Adam, married to Elizabeth (Sensenig) Martin of Bethel; and two sisters, Elizabeth, married to John Zimmerman of Bowmansville, and Anna, married to Reuben Ringler of Denver. Preceding him in death is a granddaughter, Sara Martin; two sisters, Hettie Ann and Katie Burkholder; and three brothers, Benjamin, Harry, and Amos Martin. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 5 at 8:45 am at the late home with further services at 9:30 am at the New Holland Mennonite Church with the Bishop Ben F. Martin officiating. E. Dorothy Jacobs, 84, of 903 Mohrsville Rd., Shoemakersville PA, formerly of Narvon died Saturday May 12th, 2007, at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center after a six-week illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Wilfred Jacobs in 1993. Born in Glenmoore she was the daughter of the late Walter and Adeline (Heck) Cashwiler. A homemaker, she was also a waitress at the former Honey Brook Restaurant. Dorothy was a member of the Bridgeville E. C. Church, an avid Phillies fan, and enjoyed her grandchildren. Surviving are her children: Nancy married to Barry Weidner, with whom she resided; Melvin married to Patricia Gilmer, Ephrata; Deborah married to Timothy Kurtz, Elverson; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter Randlyn Fox, a son Ronald Gilmer; four brothers and four sisters. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday May 16th, 2007 at 11 AM at the Bridgeville E. C. Church, 5971 Division Highway, Narvon with Pastor Phil Walck and Pastor Dan Blank officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.
