Woodrow R. Horst
Jan. 28, 1927 - June 20, 2001
Woodrow R. “Woody” Horst, age 74, of 306 Rolling Terrace, Leola, Lancaster County, formerly of Brownstown, died in his home under the care of Hospice of Lancaster County on Wednesday morning at 6:45 AM following a lengthy illness. Born in Brownstown, Lancaster County, he was a son of the late Martin and Margie (Royer) Horst. He and his wife, Mary Helen (Becker) Horst, celebrated 51 years of marriage on October 8, 2000. He was a member and former Sunday School Superintendent of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Brownstown. Woody retired in 1995 from E&G Concrete, Inc., Stevens. He was previously employed by the former L. S. Weidman & Sons Construction Company, Brownstown, and by the late Allen Buch, Brownstown, in farming and septic system work. He was also a member of the Buckskins Hunting Club, Centre County, and enjoyed hunting, cooking, and vegetable gardening. Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Chris E. Horst, Schaefferstown, Lebanon County; a son, Ronald K., marriage to Joyce (Beck) Horst, Hopeland, Lancaster County; and a sister, Betty E. Horst, Brownstown. A brother, John Horst, was killed in World War II.
It was Woody's request that there not be a viewing, however, the family will receive friends from Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 11 North Church Street, Brownstown, on Saturday from 9:00 to 10:00 AM. A graveside ceremony will be held in the adjoining Brownstown Cemetery at 10:00 AM with Pastor Dennis E. Spangler and Pastor Bruce H. Willier officiating.
The family asks that Woody be remembered by contributions to Hospice of Lancaster County, Post Office Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125, rather than sending flowers.

Stella E. Hoshour
October 7, 1914 - April 10, 2003
Stella E. Mattis Hoshour, 88, of 308 Lauschtown Road, Denver, Lancaster County, died Thursday morning at 5:45 AM in Ephrata Manor, where she resided since August 1, 1997. Born in Angelica, Berks County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas G. and Ellen D. (Fritz) Kohl. Her first husband, Alvin D. Mattis, died in 1967, and her second husband, Ralph Hoshour, died in 1991. Many years ago, Stella was employed by her brother at the former Angelica Nursery. She is survived by a sister, Grace (Kohl) Hart, Myerstown, Lebanon County; and nieces and nephews.
Stella's viewing will be held on Monday, April 14, 2003, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM from our parlors. The funeral will begin at 2:00 PM with The Reverend Robert A. Witmyer officiating. Burial will follow in Allegheny Union Cemetery, Alleghenyville, Berks County, PA, aside of her first husband.
The family has requested that you please remember Stella with contributions to Ephrata Manor, 99 Bethany Road, Ephrata, PA 17522.

Alice M. Huyard
March 12, 1926 - October 12, 2001
Alice M. Huyard, age 75, formerly of Reamstown, Lancaster County, died Friday at 1 PM in Conestoga View, 900 East King Street, Lancaster, where she resided since December. Born in Birdsboro, Berks County, she was a daughter of the late John and Kathryn (Wentzel) Fromm. She had attended the East Cocalico Church of the Brethren, Reamstown. Surviving are her husband, Jacob L. Huyard, a resident of Denver Nursing Home, Stevens; and a daughter, Kathryn Ann Huyard, Stevens.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday afternoon, October 16, 2001, at 2:00 PM in Muddy Creek Cemetery, East Cocalico Township, PA. There will be no public viewing.

Jacob L. Huyard "Jakie"
May 28, 1916 - July 28, 2003
Jacob L. Huyard, 87, formerly of Denver and Reamstown, Lancaster County, died Monday morning at 11:25 AM in Denver Nursing Home, Stevens, Lancaster County, where he resided since October 1, 2001. Born in Fivepointville, Lancaster County, he was a son of the late Jacob and Lizzie (Sweigart) Huyard. His wife, Alice M. (Fromm) Huyard, died October 12, 2001. He was last employed as a handyman at Renninger’s Antique Market, Adamstown. Surviving is a daughter, Kathryn Ann Huyard, a resident of Parkside Manor, Stevens.
Jakie's viewing will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2003, from 10:30 to 11:00 AM from our parlors with the service beginning at 11:00 AM. Pastor James H. Rhen will officiate.
Burial will follow in Muddy Creek Cemetery, Swartzville, Lancaster County, PA.

Elsie May Huyard
May 15, 1909 - February 22, 2005
Elsie May Huyard, 95, formerly of East Earl and Denver, Lancaster County, died Tuesday morning, February 22, at 1:10 AM in the United Zion Retirement Community, Warwick Township, Lancaster County. Born in Ephrata, Lancaster County, she was a daughter of the late David and Mary (McColm) Habecker. Her husband, Steward F. Huyard, died July 25, 1985. A member of Hahnstown United Zion Church, Ephrata, she was a 76 year and longest member of the church denomination. Elsie enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting and working puzzles. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann, wife of Rev. LaMar L. Zimmerman, Ephrata; a granddaughter, Dorcas; and a brother, Rufus Habecker, Denver, PA.
A viewing will be held on Friday, February 25, 2005, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM in the chapel of the United Zion Retirement Community, 722 Furnace Hills Pike, Lititz, PA 17543, and at the church on Saturday, February 26, 2005, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2005, at 10:00 AM from Hahnstown United Zion Church, Glenwood Drive, Ephrata, PA, with The Rev. John Fry and The Rev. John Leisey officiating. Burial in the adjoining Cemetery.

Bertha H. Johns
September 15, 1917 - January 16, 2005
Bertha H. Johns, 87, formerly of 26 East Church Street, Reamstown, Lancaster County, died Sunday morning, January 16, 2005, at 7:47 AM in Maple Farms Nursing Center, Akron. Born in East Hanover Township, Dauphin County, she was a daughter of the late Bertha (Stohler) Johns. She was a member of Zion's United Church of Christ, Ephrata. Retiring in 1982, she had been employed for 19 years by the former Hemmerich Industries, Denver, PA. She is survived by nieces and nephews.
Bertha had requested that there be no viewing.
The Reverend John C. Miller will officiate on Wednesday morning, January 19, 2005, at 10:00 AM from our parlor.
Burial will follow in Lincoln Cemetery, Ephrata, Lancaster County, PA.
It was Bertha's wishes that flowers not be sent, and that you may remember her with gifts sent to her church, Zion United Church of Christ, 1356 Apple Street, Ephrata, PA 17522.

Mary T. Hillhouse
January 14, 1931 - June 2, 2004
Mary T. Hillhouse, 73, of 75 Pelham Road, Reinholds, Lancaster County, PA, formerly of Heightstown, NJ, died Wednesday evening at 7:40 PM in Maple Farms Nursing Center, Akron, PA, where she resided for 2 months. He death followed a 2 1/2 year illness. She was born in New Brunswick, NJ, a daughter of the late Frank and Margaret (Roth) Newmeyer, and was the wife of Jimmy C. Hillhouse, for 43 years on January 11th. Prior to moving to Pennsylvania, she owned and operated Health House, Edison, NJ, a health food store. She also had been a waitress for many years and drove school bus for the East Windsor School District, East Windsor, NJ. Mary was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God, Wyomissing. She was a ceramist with her own kiln and had been an instructor in ceramic art. She loved the ocean...especially body surfing. Surviving in addition to her husband, are 2 daughters, Margaret M., marriage to David N. Charney, Crosswicks, NJ; and Katherine A. Bishop, Lancaster, PA; 4 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Agnes Newmeyer, Pompano Beach, FL; Anne Mason, Oregon City, OR; and Marguerite Sandor, Hungary; 4 brothers, John Newmeyer, Plainsboro, NJ; Thomas & James Newmeyer, both of Calabash, SC; and Frank Newmeyer, Pompano Beach, FL.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 17, 2004, from Noon to 1:00 PM from our parlors with a ceremony remembering Mary's life beginning at 1:00 PM. Her pastor, The Reverence Brian Koch, will officiate.
