Janeen Marie Schmanske, 39, of 4 McCormick Court, Stafford, Virginia, took her own life at home Monday afternoon. She had been battling severe post-partum depression following the birth of her twin girls. Born in Tamaqua, Schuylkill County, PA, she was a daughter of Arnold R. and Rose Marie (Urbanavage) Klein, Wyomissing Hills, Berks County, PA, and was the wife of Brian M. Schmanske for 14 years on September 17, 2003. She was a member of St. William of York Catholic Church, Stafford, Virginia. Janeen was a graduate of Holy Name High School, Reading, PA, and Penn State University, State College, PA. She enjoyed flower gardening. Surviving in addition to her husband and parents are twin daughters, Nathalie R. and Nicole R. Schmanske, both at home, and 2 sisters, Denise A., marriage to James D. Mitchell, Stevens, PA; and Melissa R., marriage to Creton Kalfoglou, Morris Plains, NJ.
A viewing will be held from our parlors on Friday, April 2, 2004, from 9:00 to 10:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Our Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 320 Church Avenue, Ephrata, PA 17522, on Friday morning at 11:00 AM with The Reverend James Small, C. SS. R. as celebrant. Final Commendation and Farewell will take place in St. Peter & St. Paul Cemetery, Tamaqua, Schuylkill County, PA, on Friday afternoon at 3:30 PM with The Reverend Father William Linkchorst as celebrant.

Marlin K. Smith "Pete"
February 20, 1913 - October 30, 2004
Marlin K. “Pete” Smith, 91, formerly of East Church Street, Reamstown, Lancaster County, died Oct. 30, 2004, at 1:15 AM in Denver Nursing Home, Stevens, Lancaster County. He was born Feb. 20, 1913 in Harrisburg son of the late Daniel K. & Bertha V. (Hogentogler) Smith. "Pete" was a 1978 retiree after 50 years with Miller-Hess Shoe Co., Akron, PA. A former elder, deacon & councilman of Salem U.C.C., Reamstown., he enjoyed gardening & hunting. Survived by daughter, Joyce (Smith), marriage to James L. Shober, Stevens, PA; 3 grandchildren, Jill, marriage to John Berkes, David, marriage to Bette, Shober & Philip, marriage to Gerri, Shober; 6 great-grandchildren, Jordan, Ryan, Kelly, Kathleen, Ross & Grace; a great-great-grandson, Alex; & 2 brothers, Arthur & Donald Smith, both of Akron, PA. Predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Helen (Reddig) Smith in 1998, brothers Lester, Melvin & Charles Smith & a sister, Mildred Yoder.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday afternoon, November 3, 2004, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM from Salem United Church of Christ, East Church Street, Reamstown, Lancaster County, PA, with the ceremony celebrating "Pete's" life beginning at 2:00 PM. The Reverend Stephen E. Hollinger will officiate. Burial will follow in Wolf's Cemetery, Akron, where he will be interred beside his beloved wife, Helen.
The family asks that rather than flowers, please remember "Pete" with contributions to the Reamstown Memorial Park, Post Office Box 181, Reamstown, PA 17567-0181.

Frances Smith
November 14, 1928 - April 27, 2003
Frances P. Smith, age 75, formerly of Denver, Lancaster County, died Sunday evening at 6:20 PM in St. Joseph’s Medical Center, Reading, after being taken from Spruce Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, West Reading, where she resided the past 2 years. Born in Ephrata, Lancaster County, she was a daughter of the late Milo and Virginia Peters. Her husband, Ralph M. Smith, Sr., died July 3, 1984. She was a housewife and enjoyed word search puzzles. Surviving are a son, Ralph M. Smith, Jr., Exeter, PA; 3 daughters, Regina Smith, Reading, PA; Alma Smith, Exeter, PA; and Margaret A. (Smith), marriage to Homer A. Haney, Ephrata, PA; and 5 grandchildren.
A viewing for Frances will be held on Friday morning, May 2, 2003, from 10:30 to 11:00 AM from our parlors. The ceremony will begin at 11:00 AM with burial following in Denver Union Cemetery, just outside of Denver, PA.

C. Richard Slabach "Rick"
March 22, 1944 - March 3, 2006
1962 Graduate of Cocalico High School
C. Richard “Rick” Slabach, 61, of 68 Oriole Drive, Stevens, Lancaster County, died unexpectedly Friday, March 3, 2006, in his home of natural causes. Born March 22, 1944, in West Reading, Berks County, he was a son of the late Charles A. Slabach and the late Fern E. (Stoltz) Slabach, and was the husband of Donna J. (Piety) Slabach for 31 years. A member of St. Paul ’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Adamstown, he was a 1962 graduate of Cocalico High School, and was a Vietnam War army veteran. Rick was an avid sportsman having held the Cocalico most points scored in a basketball game record for years, 1962 MVP of the American Legion All East & East-West baseball games, played with the Spartansburg minor league baseball Phillie’s, played for the Adamstown “Hatters” in the Lebanon Valley League and coached various local baseball, softball and girl’s basketball teams. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Patricia L. “Trish” (Slabach), wife of Todd M. Lukas, Marlton, NJ ; a son, Charles R., Jr., husband of Angel (Galloway) Slabach, Annville; 3 grandchildren, Logan, Nathan and Samuel; and a sister, Jane C. (Slabach), wife of Albert Blough, Lititz, PA.
A celebration of Rick's life will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2006, at 2:00 PM from Good Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Inc. of Reamstown. There will be no viewing, however, the family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM.
Private inurnment in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Adamstown, PA.

Raymond R. Stafford
May 10, 1919 - June 18, 2002
Raymond R. Stafford, 83, of RR1 – Box 50C, Liberty, Tioga County, formerly of Ephrata, died Tuesday afternoon at 2:10 PM in Williamsport Hospital, Lycoming County, where he was a patient for one day. His death followed a very brief illness. Born in New Holland, Lancaster County, he was a son of the late Henry and Elsie (Fox) Stafford. His wife, Grace B. (Sweigart) Stafford, died January 1, 1998. He was a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ephrata (Lincoln), Lancaster County. Stafford retired in 1980 after working 33 years with the former Parish Pressed Steel, now Dana Corporation, at their former Reading location. A Marine Corps veteran of World War II he served as a corporal in the Pacific Theatre. He resided in Tioga County for the past 4 years and was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer and bowler. His memberships include the Adamstown and Liberty VFW, Hillside Rod & Gun Club, Blossburg, PA, and Arnot Sportsman’s Club, Arnot, PA. Surviving is a daughter, Teresa L., marriage to John W. Groff, Ephrata; a son, Raymond R., Jr., marriage to Wanda L. (Hornberger) Stafford, Ephrata; 3 grandchildren; 2 great-granddaughters; 3 sisters, Cora, marriage to Harold Wenger, Denver, PA; Irene, marriage to William Flickinger, Ephrata, PA; and Hilda Hornberger, Lititz, PA; and a brother, George, marriage to Mary Jane Stafford, Ephrata, PA. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Frank, Paul and Henry Stafford.
Raymond's viewing will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2002, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM from our funeral parlor. The ceremony will begin at 2:00 PM with Pastor Dan Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Bergstrasse Lutheran Cemetery, Ephrata Township, Lancaster County, PA.
The family asks that you refrain from sending flowers, as Ray didn't really like flowers. Contributions in his memory may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603.

Franklin L. Stahley
July 10, 1922 - January 6, 2006
Franklin L. Stahley, 83, of Ephrata Township, Lancaster County, died Friday, January 6, 2006, at 1:36 PM in his residence under the care of Hospice of Lancaster County. Born July 10, 1922, in Woxall, Montgomery County, PA, he was a son of the late Frank S. and Martha (Shearer) Stahley. His wife, Kathryn F. “Kass” (Martzall) Stahley, died June 26, 2002. A 64 year member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Denver, a life member and past president of Reinholds VFW Post 6759, and charter, life member and past president of the Smokestown Fire Company. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, RVing, camping and woodworking. A self employed painter and paperhanger for many years he also worked for the PA Turnpike Commission and was last employed by Conestoga Wood Products, East Earl. Franklin was a purple heart recipient serving in the Army during World War II. Surviving are 2 daughters, Jean M., wife of Glenn E. Kulp, Reinholds, PA ; and DelRae, wife of David K. Pannebecker, Denver, PA; a son, Donald L., husband of Karen L. (Koser) Stahley, Lititz, PA; 3 grandchildren, Jesse B., husband of Danielle (DaMatt) Kulp; Kelly A. and Brooke M. Pannebecker; and a great-granddaughter, Adrianna DaMatt.
A viewing will be held on Monday evening, January 9, 2006, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2006, at 10:00 AM from our parlors with his pastor, The Rev. David R. Brumbaugh, officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Spring Township, Berks County, PA.

Kathryn F. "Kass" Stahley
July 28, 1921 - June 26, 2002
Kathryn F. “Kass” Stahley, 80, of 129 Meadow Valley Road, Ephrata, Lancaster County, formerly of Smokestown, died Wednesday evening at 7:20 PM in Maple Farms Nursing Center, Akron, where she was a guest for the past 2 months. Born in Denver, Lancaster County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel M. and Stella R. (Fisher) Martzall, and was the wife of Franklin L. Stahley for 59 years on August 15, 2001. She was a 65-year member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Denver. A life member of the Smokestown Fire Company, where she was also past president of the ladies auxiliary. She was member of the Reinholds VFW Ladies auxiliary, enjoyed sewing and traveling. Kass retired in 1986 after over 30 years of employment with the former Dutchmaid, Inc. of Ephrata. Previous employers were the former Shorenson’s, Ephrata, and the former Cinderella Knitting Mill, Denver, PA. Surviving in addition to her husband are 2 daughters, Jean M., wife of Glenn E. Kulp, Reinholds; and DelRae, marriage to David K. Pannebecker, Denver, PA; a son, Donald L., marriage to Karen L. (Koser) Stahley, Lititz, PA; 3 grandchildren; and 4 brothers, Ellis F. Martzall, Denver, PA; Alvin F., marriage to Elizabeth (Schaffer) Martzall, Akron, PA; Chester F., marriage to Virginia (Stevens) Martzall, Florence, Arizona; and Harlan F., marriage to Dorothy (Horst) Martzall, Reinholds, PA.
Kass' viewing will be held on Sunday evening, June 30, 2002, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM from our parlors. The funeral ceremony will take place from our establishment on Monday morning, July 1, 2002, at 10:00 AM with her pastor, The Reverend David R. Brumbaugh, officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Sinking Spring, Berks County, PA.
