Pearl (Wengryn) Fudjak, 93, of Ridge Street, Glen Lyon, died Sunday at the Mercy Health Care Center, Sheatown.

Born April 9, 1907, in Alden, she was a daughter of Stephen and Anna (Sudick) Wengryn.

She attended Newport Township schools.

She was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Church, Glen Lyon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Sr.; sisters, Mary Sudick, Eva Sagan, Helen Haverlak and Anna Madajewski; and brothers, Nick, John and Michael Wengryn.

Surviving are her son, Walter Jr., and daughter, Rose Chest, both of Glen Lyon; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Amelia Brutski, Wanamie; Margie Olshefski, Alden; and brother, Peter Wengryn, Bethlehem.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday from the George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 211 W. Main St., Glen Lyon, with Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Church.

Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Glen Lyon.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Parastas services will be at 7:30 p.m., with Rev. Father Michael Mokris officiating.

Gadaleta, Ann
February 3, 2001
Ann Gadaleta, 78, of Orchard Street, Nanticoke, died Saturday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Hoboken, N.J., she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Lena (Scoccimaro) Gadaleta.

Surviving are her daughters, Kathy Holmes, Avoca; and Annmarie Nelson, Wilkes-Barre; son, Michael R. Wilde, Nanticoke; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services and interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Earl W. Lohman Funeral Home, 14 W. Green St., Nanticoke.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Harding, Clara
February 5, 2001
Clara (Evans) Harding, 77, of Plainsville Flats, Plains Township, died Monday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Kingston, she was a daughter of the late David Evans and Darrah (George) Evans Dunstan.

She was a graduate of West Pittston High School.

She was a member of the Plains United Methodist Church, where she was president of the United Methodist Women, a choir member, advisor to the Methodist Youth Fellowship and membership secretary of the church.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, David, William, George, Charles and Thelbert Evans, and Calvin Dunstan; and sister, Leah Savage.

Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Walter E.; sons, James E., West Milford, W.Va.; and Kenneth A., Falls; daughter, Sandra L. Toslin, West Pittston; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday from the H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 451 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Craig C. Gommer, her pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Carverton.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Plains United Methodist Church, 133 N. Main St., Plains, Pa. 18705.

Hitchcock, Norman
February 4, 2001
Norman D. Hitchcock, 68, of West Pittston, died Saturday in the Visiting Nurse Association Inpatient Unit at the Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre.

Born Nov. 10, 1932, in Stevensville, he was a son of the late Theron and Aura (Walker) Hitchcock. He attended Camptown public schools. He worked in construction at the R.N. Hunter Co., Taylor.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Floyd and Clifford.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, the former Barbara Montanye; daughters, Debra Pruitt, Wilkes-Barre; Norma Rosencrans, Sweet Valley, Ross Township; and Connie Oldack, Kingston; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Simon S. Russin Funeral Home Inc., 136 Maffett St., Plains, with the Rev. Robert Sauers officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Harding, Exeter Township. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of service.

Hogan, Rosetta
February 4, 2001
Rosetta O. (Serino) Hogan, formerly of Pittston, died Sunday at Riverstreet Manor Nursing Home, Wilkes-Barre.

Born June 1, 1929, in Pittston, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Costantina (Catell) Serino.

She attended Pittston High School.

She was a member of St. Mary's Help of Christians Church, Pittston.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sheila.

Surviving are her husband, Jerry; daughter, Geralyn, at home; sons, John, Philadelphia; and Jerry, Hughestown; two granddaughters; sisters, Theresa Kurt, Detroit, Mich.; and Ann Redding, Pittston; and brothers, Stanley, New Jersey; and Michael and Tony, both of Detroit.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Adonizio Funeral Home Inc., 251 William St., Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Help of Christians Church.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Jayne, Walter
February 5, 2001
Walter W. Jayne, 90, of RR 2, Meshoppen, died Monday in Auburn Township.

Born June 15, 1910, in Meshoppen, he was a son of the late Byron and Olive (Welch) Jayne.

He was a bus driver for Greyhound Bus Lines, Scranton.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Beatrice Pierson.

Surviving are his sons, Philip, Meshoppen; and David, Allentown; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one niece.

There will be no funeral services or calling hours.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street, Meshoppen.

Kardish, Walter
February 1, 2001
Walter Kardish, 80, of Kingston, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, died Thursday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born Aug. 2, 1920, in Edwardsville, he was a son of the late Casimir (Kardysz) and Helen (Mitych) Kardish.

He was a member of Sacred Heart-St. John's Parish, Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, the former Sophie Sulkowski.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in Sacred Heart-St. John's Church, 601 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township, Hanover Township.

Arrangements are by the McLaughlin Funeral Service.

Kay, Anne M.
February 4, 2001
Anne M. Kay (nee Kuharcik) of Langhorne Manor passed away Sunday, February 4, 2001, at her home, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Her loving family was at her side.

Born Sept. 28, 1936, in Edwardsville, she was a resident of Langhorne Manor for 28 years. Mrs. Kay was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey, her parents, Ignatius and Catherine Kuharcik, and her sister, Rose Smith.

Anne was very active in Our Lady of Grace Parish, starting as a volunteer CCD teacher and becoming director of religious education. She received her master of theology degree from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in May 2000, and Anne was particularly proud of this accomplishment. In 1987, Anne received the Pius X award for active involvement in the CCD program.

Anne graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1954, and received her bachelor of science degree in biology from College Misericordia in Dallas. She also received her master's degree in genetics from the University of Detroit. Anne daughter at College Misericordia, Mercy College, Rider College and Bucks County Community College.

Anne was the loving wife of Robert E. Kay for 36 years, and the devoted mother of six children: Annejudith Hunter and her husband, David, of Philadelphia; Greg and his wife, Lisa, of Levittown; Cynthia Kay of Langhorne Manor; Karen Jones and her husband, Michael, of Levittown; Elizabeth Kay of Bethlehem; and Maryanne Kay of Langhorne Manor. Anne will also be missed by her eight grandchildren, who loved to spend time with their grandmom at the shore. Her grandchildren are Eric Barlow, Brittany, Ashley and Christopher Hunter, Jeffrey and Gina Kay, and Jacob and Joshua Jones. She is survived by her sisters, Theresa Harvey of Shavertown, Toni Edmiston and her husband, Frank, of Fairless Hills, her brother, Andrew Kuharcik and his wife, Helen, of Parkland, her brother-in-law, William Smith, of Forty Fort, and many nieces and nephews.

Over the years, Anne touched the lives of many people through her involvement with CCD and many other volunteer activities.

Family and friends are invited to call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening and from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Grace Church, 225 S. Bellevue Ave., Penndel. Rite of Committal will be in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery.

Kreidler, Charles III
February 2, 2001
Charles John Kreidler III, infant son of Charles John Kreidler Jr. and Carrie (Nevel) Blalock, Wilkes-Barre, died Friday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his stepbrother, Edward M. Blalock, Nescopeck; stepsister, Samantha L. Blalock, Pittsburgh; maternal grandmother, Shelby Nevel, Berwick; maternal great-grandparents, Royal and Margaret Cain, Stillwater; paternal grandparents, Shirley and Charles Kreidler Sr., Lake Ariel; and paternal great-grandfather, Phillip Stefin, Olyphant.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel Hill Cemetery, Fairmount Township, with the Rev. Allen F. Acor of the Beach Haven United Methodist Church officiating.

Arrangements are by the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home, 1024 Market St., Berwick.

Korutz, Mary

Mary Korutz, 91, of Wilkes-Barre, died Monday at Valley Crest Nursing Home, Plains Township.

Kurinka, Joseph
February 5, 2001
Joseph Kurinka, of Warner Street, Plains Township, died Monday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Simon and Katherine (Kartichak) Kurinka.

He was a graduate of Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, and attended Wilkes College.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant in the European and African Theaters and earning Bronze Stars.

He worked for the Pennsylvania Gas & Water Co.

He was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre, and post commander of the Plains American Legion.

Surviving are his wife, the former Sarah Kozich; son, Bobb, Wilkes-Barre; sisters, Anne Kotzer, Wilkes-Barre; Helen Bell, Middletown; and Joan Tarnalicki, Colonia, N.J.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday from the Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 S. Main St., Plains Township, with Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre.

Interment will be in SS. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Cemetery, Plains Township.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Parastas services will be at 7 p.m., with the Rev. James Hayer officiating.
