He attended Wilkes-Barre schools, worked in the coal mine industry and was a foreman for the Wilkes-Barre Department of Streets. He was a member of St. Dominic's Church, Wilkes-Barre, and a local musician.

He was a graduate of St. Nicholas High School, Wilkes-Barre, worked for Acme Markets, where he repaired in-store equipment throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania and worked for the Keystone Ambulance Service, Edwardsville, and John V. Morris Funeral Homes, Wilkes-Barre. He was a member of St. Therese's Roman Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre, and the Machinist's Union.

She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Wilkes-Barre, and the Wilkes-Barre Senior Citizens Club.

Gipson, Wilkes-Barre. She was a 1990 graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, sang professionally with the band, New Attitude, through Wilkes-Barre and the Poconos, and was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Wilkes-Barre, where she sang in the church choir.

He attended Pittston Township schools, worked at the Backside Restaurant, Pocono Downs, Plains Township, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Vincent R. Evans, 74, of Plymouth, died Tuesday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.Born Sept. 5, 1925, in Plymouth, he was a son of the late Cecil and Ann (Murray) Evans. He attended Plymouth High School, worked for Kalman Construction, Inc., New York, was involved with projects including, Washington, D.C., Maryland, Delaware, New York, Virginia and Pennsylvania and was a member of Local 215 Labor Union. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a signalman second class. He was awarded the Victory Medal, a two-star Philippine Liberation Ribbon, three-star Pacific Theater Ribbon and an American Theater Ribbon.

Helen A. Agurkis, of RD 2, Annville, formerly of Curtis Street, Kingston, and Edwardsville, died Wednesday at the Manorcare Health Services, Lebanon.

Born in Edwardsville, she was a daughter of the late John and Agnes (Tencza) Karbon. She was a member of St. Mary's Annunciation Church, Kingston. She was preceded in death by her husband, William A.; brothers, Charles, Joseph, John, Frank and Adam Karbon; and sisters, Sophie Twardowski, Blanche Gurzon, Anna Karbon and Mary Palevich.

Surviving are her son, William J., with whom she resided; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Friday from the Kopicki Funeral Home, 263 Zerbey Ave., Kingston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Annunciation Church, Kingston. Interment will be in the National Cemetery at Fort Indiantown Gap, Annville. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Annunciation Church, Kingston.

Surviving are her sons, Thomas, Pennsauken; and Jeffrey, Daretown, N.J.; daughter, Nancy Caldwell Norcross, Scranton, six grandchildren; and sister, Virginia Langley, Pennsauken.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Alloway Funeral Home, 315 E. Maple Ave., Merchantville, N.J. Friends may call from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in will be in Colestown Cemetery, Cherry Hill, N.J.

Marian D. Chiappa, 101, of Baldwin Street, Dallas, formerly of East Stroudsburg, died Tuesday at the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas.

Born in Plymouth, she was a daughter of the late David and Mary Ann (Hughes) Davies. She was a graduate of Plymouth High School and the Moses Taylor Hospital School of Nursing. She was a nurse anesthetist at the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and member of the First Presbyterian Church, East Stroudsburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; brothers, Austin and John Davies; and sister, Marguerite Brace.

Surviving are her niece, Margaret Garris, Vero Beach, Fla.; and nephew, Edgar Brace Jr., Dallas.

The funeral will be held at the convenience of the family from the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, Inc., 672 Memorial Highway, Dallas, with the Rev. James A. Wert officiating. Interment will be in Wardan Cemetery, Dallas. There will be no calling hours.

Born Sept 6, 1913, in Kingston, she was the daughter of the late Saverio and Caterina (Marino) Pugliese.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pasquale.

Surviving are her sons, Giovanni, Italy; Saverio, Hanover Township; Frank, Laflin; and Anthony, Allentown; daughters, Gemma and Caterina, both of Italy; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in Italy.

Born in Edwardsville, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Angela (Welgos) Dlugosz. She was a graduate of Edwardsville High School, worked in the cosmetic department of Pomeroy's Department Store, Wilkes-Barre, and was a member of St. Hedwig's Church, Kingston, and its Rosary Society.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward, Ted, Joseph and Henry. Surviving are her sister, Cassie Maslowski, Edwardsville; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday from the Kopicki Funeral Home, 263 Zerbey Ave., Kingston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Hedwig's Church. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Dallas. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Born in Edwardsville, she was a daughter of the late Alex and Anna (Sapar) Katsaba. She worked for the Hess-Goldsmith Silk Mill, Kingston, and was a member of St. Vladimir's Church, Edwardsville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael; brother, John Katsaba; and sisters, Anna Barna, Mary Gozick and Helen Skordinski.

Surviving are her nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Kopicki Funeral Home, 263 Zerbey Ave., Kingston, with Divine Liturgy at 11:30 a.m. at St. Vladimir's Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Edwardsville. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Parastas Services will be at 7 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Alex Burak officiating.

Andrew J. Gulla, 74, of Milbre Street, Swoyersville, died Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Elizabeth.

Born June 10, 1926, in Swoyersville, he was a son of the late John and Anna Gulla. He attended Swoyersville schools, worked for R & H Manufacturing and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving on LST's ships in the Pacific and Atlantic Theaters. He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish and Post 644 American Legion, both of Swoyersville.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Steven Yonik, John Gulla and Joseph Gula; and sister, Theresa.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, the former Helen (Gaydos) Gulla, Swoyersville; son, David, Swoyersville; daughters, Elizabeth McGough, Plains Township; and Andrea Williams, Kingston; six grandchildren; brothers, Thomas, Swoyersville; and George, Avoca; sisters, Mary Brutko, Shelby, N.C.; Anna and Veronica Novroski, Helen Gaydos and Betty Gavlick, all of Swoyersville; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at the convenience of the family from the Bednarski Funeral Home, 168 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Swoyersville. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today.
