She was a cashier for the A & P Markets, Inc. She was a member of Holy Family Parish, Luzerne, and Sacred Heart Church.

Swantkowski, 88, formerly of Scranton, Nanticoke and Main Street, Moosic, died Saturday at the Wesley Village Nursing Facility, Jenkins Township.Born June 21, 1912, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Cora (Konopka) Slawski. She and her late husband, Charles M., co-owned the Old Forge Drug Center. She was a member of St. Mary's Polish National Church, Duryea.

He worked for Lehigh Valley Coal Co., Plains Township, Celotex Corp., Harding, and Heary and Highway Construction Laborer's Local Union 158. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Church, Plains Township.

Her smile and kindness would touch and light up so many lives of so many people. Jamie was kind, caring and giving. Her understanding, loving, caring and beautiful smile and personality brought much love and joy to her mom, dad and brother, Jared.

She was 71.She was born in Dupont, the daughter of the late Michael Malinics and Bertha Serafin Malinics. She was a graduate of Dupont High School and attended Marywood University. She was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Dupont, where she served as a Christian Mother. She and her husband, Edward, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August.

Cawley Jr., 60, of Inkerman, beloved husband and father, passed peacefully at home on Oct. 18, 2000, following a valiant battle with cancer.He was born Dec. 29, 1939, in Pittston, son of the late Frank and Mary (Delaney) Cawley. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston. He was a graduate of St. John the Evangelist High School, and was an avid outdoorsman and Notre Dame Fan. He was formerly employed by the Luzerne County Correctional Facility.

Donahue, Joseph R. "Jay"

Joseph R. "Jay" Donahue, 47, of 6340 Rampart, Houston, Texas, died Sunday in the Bentab Memorial Hospital, Houston, following a railroad accident.

Born in Pittston, he was the son of Grace (Monahan) Donahue, of Edwardsville, and the late Raymond J. Donahue. He resided in Harding, Exeter Township, for several years before moving to Texas. Mr. Donahue was a 1971 graduate of Wyoming Area High School. He was employed as a railroad fireman and oiler for Conrail for several years and for the past 20 years with Union Pacific Railroad in Texas. He was a member of Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, Houston, Texas, and the Fireman & Oilers RR Union.

Surviving, besides his mother, are a sister, Sharon Chang, Kingston; brothers, Michael P., Malvern, Pa.; Patrick J., San Francisco, Calif.; and a nephew, Michael P. Chang, Towson, Md.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. from the Metcalfe & Shaver Funeral Home, Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston. Private interment will be in the parish Cemetery. Friends may call Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William St., Pittston, Pa., 18640.

Gilbert, William

William J. Gilbert, 72, of Jones Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Wednesday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Kingston, he was a son of the late Stanley and Anna (Santee) Gilbert, He was a graduate of Kingston High School and Wilkes-Barre Business College. He was self-employed as a jewelry salesman. He was a member of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his brother, George.

Surviving are his wife, the former Ann K. Greenfield, one aunt, one uncle, nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday from the Leo P. Lehman Funeral Home, 689 Hazle Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church. The Very Rev. J. Duane Gavitt V.F. will officiate. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Krupa, Francis

Francis "Frank" Krupa, 72, of Williston, Vt., formerly of Berlin, Vt., died Sunday at home following a heart attack.

Born Sept. 2, 1928, in Ashley, he was a son of the late Stephen A. and Katarina (Pavlisko) Krupa. He attended Ashley schools, Pueblo Junior College, Colorado College, Northeastern University and West Point Military Academy. He was an athletic trainer at Northeastern University, Boston, managed long-term medical care facilities in New England, owned a facility in Massachusetts and was an athletic trainer for the Berlin U-32 High School Sports program. He served in the military for 22 years, first with the U.S. Navy, and then with the U.S. Army and Air Force, retiring in 1967 with the rank of senior master sergeant. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Montpelier, Vt., Knights of Columbus and Elks, and life member of the National and Eastern Athletic Trainers Associations.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, the former Nancy Bittner; sister, Catherine; and brothers, Stephen and Andrew J.

Surviving are his daughter, Catherine Lavigne, Georgia, Vt.; sons, James, Reading, Mass.; and John, Barre, Vt.; five grandchildren; sister, Mary Tuminelli, Garfield, N.J.; and Susan Witkoski, Ashley; brothers, Paul, Ashley; and Joseph, Phoenix; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Monica's Catholic Church, Barre, Vt. A military burial will follow in Vermont Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Randolph Center, Vt. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Hooker & Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Edmund Miskiel, 73, of Wyngate Road, Coraopolis, died Oct. 7 at his home.

Born in Nanticoke, he was the son of the late Victor and Sophie (Pohepic) Miskiel. He worked for Eastern Airlines.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Norma Lupi; daughters, Sandra Brocco, Kathleen Fleet and Dina Merow, all of Coraopolis; sons, Michael, Sewickley; and David, Virginia Beach, Va.; 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary, Nanticoke.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Margaret Mary Church, Coraopolis, with interment there. Funeral information was submitted by the Earl W. Lohman Funeral Home, Nanticoke.

Reno, Wadic

Wadic V. "Burkey" Reno, 85, of Brown Row, Wanamie section of Newport Township, died Sunday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born Jan. 1, 1915, in Wanamie, he was a son of the late Vincent and Antonia (Genbusia) Reno. He attended the Newport public schools. He was a coal miner for the Glen Alden Coal Co. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army in the African and European Theaters. He was a member of St. Adalbert's Church, Glen Lyon section of Newport Township, and American Legion Post 350, Nanticoke.

He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Marvin; brother, William; and sister, Susan Wintergrass.

Surviving are his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the Stanley S. Stegura Funeral Home, Inc., 614 S. Hanover St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Adalbert's Church. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Newport Township. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. this evening.

Wilcox, Frederick

Frederick Wilcox, 79, of Kingston, died Wednesday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born Sept. 13, 1921, in Lehman, he was a son of the late Burton and Mildred (Hoover) Wilcox. He was a mechanic for the Plymouth Dress Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, participating in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Kingston.

He was preceded in death by his twin children, Donald and Dorothy; sisters, Alberta Barrick and Charlotte Wagner; and brother, Russell.

Surviving are his wife, the former Rosemary Watkins; son, Frederick, Kingston; brother, Howard, Greeley; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Christ Community Church, 100 W. Dorrance St., Kingston, with the Rev. John Butch officiating. Interment will be in Lehman Center Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the church. Arrangements are by the Karl E. Blight Funeral Home, Kingston. Memorial donations may be made to Christ Community Church Building Fund, Kingston.

Williams, Harold

Harold Williams, 82, formerly of McLean Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Tuesday at the Meadows Nursing Facility, Dallas.

Born April 18, 1918, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Owen and Katherine (Hughes) Williams. He worked for Faye Shoe, Heavenly Shoe and Frye Boot. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a sergeant. He was a member of Albright Methodist Church, Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy M.; and brother, Edward.

Surviving are his sons, Edward A., Perry Township, Ohio; and David A., Mountaintop; daughters, Judy Donlin, Dallas; and Sharon Shaver, Wilkes-Barre; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild; sister, Mary Sappah, Park Ridge, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday from the Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 465 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. The Rev. E. Susan Wenner will officiate. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Garcia, Anna

Anna L. Garcia, 87, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Nanticoke and New York City, died Oct. 2 at her home.

Born April 19, 1913, in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada, she was a daughter of the late John and Jennie (Griffith) Smith. She was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church, Nanticoke.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo; brothers, John, Charles, George and Ben Smith; and sisters, Catherine "Kate" Troy, Edith "Sis" Thorne and Helen Yaple Thorne.

Surviving is her son, Alan, Tampa.

A Memorial Service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at St. George's Episcopal Church, Main Street, Nanticoke, followed by interment at Oak Lawn Cemetery, South Main Street, Hanover Township. Arrangements were by Mark III Funerals/Cremation, 3328 S. Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa, Fla.

Bluhm, Ervin

Ervin H. Bluhm, of Tunkhannock, died Tuesday at his home.

Born Jan. 12, 1925, in Rock Springs, Wyo., he was a son of the late Henry and Anna (Harder) Bluhm and stepson of the late Charlotte (Broszeit) Bluhm. He was a 1943 graduate of Towanda High School. He worked for Dupont Manufacturing Co., Towanda, and Tuscarora Wayne Insurance, Wyalausing. He founded Bluhm Insurance Agency, Tunkhannock, and expanded into Honesdale. He was a member of the Tunkhannock Presbyterian Church, Triton Hose Co., Tunkhannock, Temple Lodge 248 F & AM, Keystone Consistory, Scranton, and Irem Temple Shrine.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ernest and Albert; and sister, Ruth Hildreth.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Mary Louise (Kreichbaum) Bluhm; sons, Jeffrey and Gary, both of Tunkhannock; and David, Honesdale; daughter, Karen A. Brown, Tunkhannock, 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and brother, Gerald, Dallas, Texas.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc., 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with the Rev. Robert Hooper officiating. Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mary (Garbacik) DeLuca, 83, of Winters Avenue, West Hazleton, died Tuesday at the Hazleton General Hospital.

Born in West Hazleton, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Sarah (Strzempek) Garbacik. She worked for Tegella, Inc., Hazleton. She was a member of Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church, its St. Theresa Society, West Hazleton Senior Citizens and the Senior Choice of St. Joseph's Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her son, Francis Louis; and brother, Walter Gabarcik.

Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Louis F.; brothers, Rev. Louis J. Garbacik and Stanley, both of Hazleton; and Edward, West Hazleton; sisters, Josephine Jurewicz and Sophia Garbacik, both of West Hazleton; Helen Moisey, Tresckow; and Caroline Chunko, Sugarloaf; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Frank J. Bonin Funeral Home, Inc., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church. Interment in the parish Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
