Thomas R. Bell, 87, of Susquehanna Avenue, Exeter, died Monday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

He was born in West Hoboken, N.J., March 9, 1913, son of the late Patrick and Maria Bell. He resided in Exeter for most of his life. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, Exeter. He was a lifetime member of the Exeter Hose Co. and a member of AFSCME Retiree Chapter 13.

He was employed by the Davis Coal Co., Hazleton; Pagnotti Coal Co., West Pittston; and for PennDOT, Bear Creek, retiring 21 years ago.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Timothy; sisters, Mafalda Massey and Lena; and grandson, Ronald Bell.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, the former Gladys Bell; three sons, Thomas P., of Wilkes-Barre; Robert P., of Harding; and John W., of Exeter; daughter, Mary Wascalis, of Binghamton, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by Patty and Cathy.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Recupero Funeral Home, 406 Susquehanna Ave., West Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church. Entombment will be in Memorial Shrine Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Goss, Kathleen

Kathleen N. "Kathy" (Jones) Goss, 53, of Larksville, formerly of the Shavertown section of Kingston Township and the Kilgore, Texas area, died Sunday shortly after admission to the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Pottstown, she was a daughter of David C. Jones, Shavertown, and the late Dorothy (Hendericks) Jones. She was a graduate of Dallas High School. ~~She was a scan coordinator for Fetch's Market, Forty Fort, and worked part-time at Grange Bark, Edwardsville. She served with the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Shavertown. Surviving, in addition to her father, are her daughters, Anna Holleman, New Rochelle, N.Y.; Amber Rivers, at home; brothers, Rev. David H. Jones, Pipersville; Stephen O. Jones, Tracy, Minn.; and Howard H. Jones, Shavertown; and sisters, Sharon Linkert, Lakeville, Minn.; and Rene Schwartzly, Freeland, Mich.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday from the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, Inc., 672 Memorial Highway, Dallas, with the Rev. David H. Jones officiating. Internment will be in Memorial Shrine Park, Carverton section of Kingston Township. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Jacoby, Marion

Marion Jacoby, 95, formerly of West Eighth Street, Wyoming, and West Wyoming, died Sunday at the Hampton House, Hanover Township.

Born in West Wyoming, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Genevieve (Lamoreaux) McGahagan. She worked for EmKay Manufacturing, West Wyoming. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, West Wyoming.

She was preceded her in death by her husband, Clarence; sister, Genevieve Trainor; and brother, John McGahagan.

Surviving are her nieces and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday from the Metcalfe & Shaver Funeral Home, Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Interment will be in Carverton Cemetery, Kingston Township. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening.

McAvoy, Martha

Martha C. McAvoy, of the Trucksville section of Kingston Township, formerly of Luzerne and B'nai B'rith Apartments, Wilkes-Barre, died Sunday at Mercy Inpatient Hospice, Mercy Hospital, Scranton.

Born in Detroit, she was a daughter of the late John and Martha (Miller) Busch. She attended Pringle Street School. She was a private investigator for the Kurtz Detective Agency. She was a member of St. Mary's Church of the Immaculate Conception, Wilkes-Barre.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph F.; sister, Sara; and brother, John~.

Surviving are her sister, Christine Jeffery, Lake Placid, N.Y.; and one niece.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday from the McLaughlin Funeral Service, 142 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, with a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church of The Immaculate Conception. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Nesbitt, Willard

Willard John Nesbitt, of Ashley Street, Ashley, died Saturday in Hanover Township.

Born May 1, 1968, he was the son of Willard "Jack" Nesbitt, Ashley, and the late Mary Barbara (Sweitzer) Nesbitt. He was a 1976 graduate of Hanover Township High School. He was a machinist for Belrick Machine Shop, Swoyersville.

Surviving, in addition to his father, at home, are his companion, Angel Schalfer, at home; sons, Evan, Jared and Daron, all at home; and daughter, Keylee, at home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the George A. Strish, Inc., Funeral Home, 105 N. Main St., Ashley, with the Rev. Carol E. Coleman officiating. Interment will be in Albert's Cemetery, Wright Township, Mountaintop. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Rhinehammer, Anna

Anna Y. Rhinehammer, 80, of West Main Street, Glen Lyon section of Newport Township, died Monday at the Hospice Community Care Unit of Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born Dec. 23, 1919, in Glen Lyon, she was a daughter of the late James and Rose (Padanese) Felici. She attended Newport Township School. She worked for the General Cigar Co., Nanticoke. She was a member of St. Denis Church and American Legion Post 539, both of Glen Lyon, and Sons of Italy Lodge 1506, Nanticoke.

She was preceded in death by her son, Chester; and sisters, Mary Columbia, Regina Sincavage, Miraglia Plocicki and Antonetta Thomas.

Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Irvin; son, James, Wanamie section of Newport Township; and two grandsons.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the George A. Strish Inc., Funeral Home, 211 W. Main St., Glen Lyon, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Denis Church. Interment will be in the Italian Independent Cemetery, Glen Lyon. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Members of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 539 are asked to meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home to have services for its member.

Searfoss Sr., Arthur

Arthur H. Searfoss Sr., 78, of Vulcan Street, South Wilkes-Barre, formerly of Ashley, died Saturday at the Hampton House, Hanover Township, where he was a resident for the past two weeks.

Born Aug. 14, 1922, in Hanover Township, he was a son of the late John and Mae (Hocking) Searfoss. He was a 1940 graduate of Hanover High School. He worked for International Coloring, Wilkes-Barre, and was a security guard for Harte & Company, Dynamit Nobel and Heels America, all of Mountaintop. He served with the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 and was a member of the Military Police. He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Adele (Rundle) Searfoss; brother, John Lavernecq Searfoss; and sisters, Lillian Searfoss and Evelyn Rakshys.

Surviving are his second wife of 15 years, Sharon (Bevan) Searfoss; son, Arthur, Jr., Wilkes-Barre; daughters, Linda Olson, Bear Creek; Nancy Bozek, Hudson section of Plains Township; Pat Kile, Lee Park section of Hanover Township; and Lynette Mitchell, Plymouth; 17 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Audrey Koscielnik, Lee Park.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the James M. Desiderio Funeral Home, 2 Academy Road, Marion Terrace, Hanover Township, with the Rev. Betty Poe officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening.

Sellock, George

George Richard Sellock, 76, of McLean Street, Dupont, died Monday at home.

Born Sept. 20, 1924, in Pringle, he was a son of the late Leo and Anna (Martin) Sellock. He attended the Swoyersville schools. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the European and Pacific Theater and in Korea. He was a sports equipment manager for King's College. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 283, Kingston, and Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Al and Lee Sellock, and Jack and Michael Fletcher.

Surviving are his wife, the former Anna "Nancy" Celusniak; son, Dr. George D., 29 Palms, California; daughters, Jill Holcomb, West Wyoming; and Lee Ann Ostrowski, Dallas; three grandchildren; sisters, Ann Campbell, Canton, Mich.; and Mary Brown, Wilkes-Barre; brother, Nicholas Fetchick, Kingston; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday from the Stephen M. Lokuta Funeral Home, 200 Wyoming Ave., Dupont, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Dupont. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. The Amvets of Dupont will perform the military funeral Wednesday morning. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Zukosky, Helen

Mrs. Helen Zukosky, of Manor Drive, Trucksville, died Monday in the General Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

She was born in Edwardsville, the daughter of the late Edward and Stella (Jilla) Benkowski and was a 1950 graduate of Edwardsville High School. Mrs. Zukosky was employed as a secretary for the Chemistry Department of Wilkes University. She was a member of St. Therese's Church, Shavertown.

Her brother, Edward Benkowski Jr., preceded her in death.

Surviving are her husband, Robert C.; daughters, Elaine Isenhour, Statesville, N.C.; and Patricia Madl, Vestal, N.Y.; sons, Robert, Wyoming; and William, Shavertown; grandchildren, Christopher and Andrew Madl and Tara and Tiffany Zukosky; and sister, Irene Stout, Bensalem.

The funeral will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from Kopicki Funeral Home, 263 Zerbey Ave., Kingston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Therese's Church. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. Friends may call Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Anthony Sr., Carl

Carl M. Anthony Sr., of West Sidney Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Monday at East Mountain Manor, Plains Township.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late George and Anna (Bretsky) Anthony. He attended the Wilkes-Barre Area schools. He worked for Kelly's Mobil Station, Mountaintop, and Smigelski's Atlantic Service Station, Kingston, and was a coal miner for the Lehigh Valley Coal Co. He was a member of Sacred Heart/St. John's Parish Community, North Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Anna Ciecierski; and sisters, Martha Beers and Irene Smigelski.

Surviving are his sons, David J., Whitehall; and Carl M., Jr., Hanover Township; and one grandchild.

A Memorial Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, 601 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with Monsignor John J. Sempa officiating. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Dallas. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Northeastern Pennsylvania Chapter at the Kirby Health Center, 71 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre. Funeral arrangements are by the John V. Mildred Ann Herudek, 81, of Parsippany, N.J., formerly of Cedar Knolls, N.J., and Livingston, N.J., died Sunday at the Troy Hills Center Nursing Home, Parsippany.

She was born in Madison, N.J. She did clerical work for the Cigna Co.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick, Sr.

Surviving are her daughters, Patricia Pryor, Chester, N.J.; and Katherine Chobotor,~ Mountaintop; son, Frederick, Jr., Whippany, N.J.; five grandchildren; and brother, Ben Pisapia, Stuart, Fla.

The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Thursday from the Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main St., Madison, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Vincent Martyr Church, Madison. Internment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. this evening.

Mary H. Jones, 100, of Lake Waynewood, formerly of Dallas, died Monday at the Abington Manor, Clarks Summit, where she was a resident.

Born in Scranton, she was a daughter of the late Howell and Minnie (Williams) Harris. She was a graduate of Scranton Central High School. She was a violinist, studying with Arnold Lohmann, played with the Scranton Philharmonic and was invited to join the Cleveland Symphony. She also played locally at church, civic and social functions. She was a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church, Plymouth, Covenant Presbyterian Church, Scranton, Century Club of Scranton and the Rotaryanns.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frederick W. Jennings; and second husband, Herbert S. Jones.

Surviving are her daughters, Margaret Moen, Dallas; Anne Byer, Lake Waynewood; and Jane Thomas, Newtown; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Covenant Presbyterian Church, Madison Avenue at Olive Street, Scranton, with the Rev. Jo Ann Germershausen officiating. Interment will be in Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Township. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the main sanctuary of the church. Kenny, John

John F. Kenny, Ph.D., 89, of Kingston, died Saturday at Davis Manor, Mountaintop.

Born Dec. 26, 1910, in Dover, Del., he was a son of the late Harry A. and Jennie T. (McHale) Kenny. He was a graduate of West Chester State Teachers College and earned a master of arts degree and doctorate in education from Columbia University, New York City. He was a member of the professional staff of Kingston-Wyoming Valley West School District, serving as teacher, librarian, coach, elementary school supervisor, assistant superintendent in charge of instruction and curriculum, and director of personnel. He was an instructor at the undergraduate and graduate levels at Wilkes College, College Misericordia, Penn State University and the University of Scranton. He was a lecturer and adviser for the Luzerne County Superintendent of Schools and was a consultant for local school administrators. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he returned to active duty to recruit, organize, and administer Wilkes-Barre Battalion 18, U.S. Naval Reserve. This was the first unit in the United States to achieve its assigned compliment of men. He was a school director and board president for the Wyoming Valley West School District. He was a member of the local, state, and national education associations and he was one of the founders of the Kingston Unit of Pennsylvania State Education Association. He was a founder of the Kingston Tennis Club. He w~as a member of St. Ignatius Church, Kingston, its Holy Name Society and choir, commander of American Legion Post 395, Kingston, and was active with the American Red Cross in its blood drives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Vera A. Finley.

Surviving are his nephews, Harry, Wilkes-Barre; and Paul, Elizabeth, N.J.; and niece, Rosemary Mulcahy, Mountaintop.

A private funeral Mass was held Tuesday at St. Ignatius Church. Interment was in the parish Cemetery, Pringle. Memorial donations may be made to St. Ignatius Renovation Fund, Kingston; or to the charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements were by the Maher-Collins Funeral Home, Kingston.

Jane M. Kresge, 98, of Bradford, formerly of Monroe Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Sunday at Born Feb. 4, 1902, in Unityville, she was a daughter of the late Samuel T. and Eldora (Welliver) Smith. She was a 1920 graduate of Dorranceton High School and graduated in 1923 from Wilkes-Barre General Hospital Nursing School~ as a registered nurse. She was a registered nurse at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Sunny Side Nursing Home and Leader West Nursing Home. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Wilkes-Barre.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur L.

Surviving are her sons, Wilbur R. "Bill," Bradford; and Glenn T., Croydon; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Etta McCulloch and Betty Watts, both of Eustis, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday from the Hugh B. Hughes & Son, Inc., Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with the Rev. Frank S. Deming Jr. officiating. Interment will be private in Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Ca~rverton section of Kingston Township. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Catherine L. (Conlon) Krzywicki, 82, of Bear Creek Boulevard, Wilkes-Barre, died Saturday at Scripps Memorial Hospital, Encinitas, Calif.

Batey, Elizabeth K.

Elizabeth K. Batey, of 530 Dennison Ave., Wyoming, died Tuesday at the Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Plymouth, she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Laura (Evans) Kostenbauder. She resided in Plymouth, Forty Fort and later in Wyoming for 52 years. Mrs. Batey was a graduate of Forty Fort High School. She was a member of Wyoming United Methodist Church, served as its financial secretary for 25 years, was a trustee and served on the administrative board. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, Order of Eastern Star, Harmony Chapter 58, Irem Auxiliary and the Shawnee Senior Citizens. Mrs. Batey served on the board of the Wyoming Free Library and International Rainbow for Girls. She was very active as a girl scout leader and neighborhood director.

Preceding her in death was her stepmother, Isadore (Fowler) Kostenbauder.

Surviving are her husband of 59 years, George A.; daughters, Lynn E. Dover, State College, Pa.; Ellen Behlke, Wyoming; grandchildren, Edmund and Laura (Dover) Mulligan, Jeffrey Dover, William Dover, Lindsay Dover, Dana Behlke and George Tyler Behlke.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 a.m. from the Metcalfe & Shaver Funeral Home, Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, with the Rev. Michael Shambora, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. "Jack" Edwards, of RD 1, Dallas, died Tuesday at Hospice Community Care Inpatient Unit at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.Born Jan. 12, 1927, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Ralph and Regina (Ryan) Edwards. He attended the local schools. He worked in the security department at Penn State University, Wilkes-Barre Campus. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Panama.

Thomas P. Garrity, 77, of Harveys Lake, died Tuesday at Hospice Care of the VNA Inpatient Unit at Heritage House, Wilkes~-Barre.

Born Sept. 14, 1923, in Harveys Lake, he was a son of the late Patrick and Bernadine (Williams) Garrity. He was a graduate of Laketon High School and attended Penn State, King's College, Wilkes College and West Virginia University. He was an area realtor, who founded Garrity Realty, Harveys Lake. He taught appraising at King's College and was chief tax assessor for Luzerne County. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, holding the rank of major and serving as a pilot. He flew B-24s and B-29s. During his service, he last served as first commander of the 92nd Aerial Port Squadron. He was a life member of Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake, member of its Holy Name Society, the National Association of Realtors, Pennsylvania Association of Realtors, International Association of Assessing Offices and the International Right of Way Association. He was a member and president of the Greater Wilkes-Barre Association of Realtors, Appraisal Institute, Northeast Chapter, and Assessors of Pennsylvania, and member and vice president of the Society of Professional Assessors. He served on the board of directors of United Penn and Mellon Banks, was a member of the Harveys Lake Fire and Ambulance Co., and served on its board of trustees.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary H.; and sister, Mary Payne.

Surviving are his daughter, Christine Snell, Harveys Lake; son, Michael J., Harveys Lake; four grandchildren; sister, Bina Stenger, Harveys Lake; brother, Joseph, South Dakota; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday from the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, 140 N. Main St., Shavertown section of Kingston Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church. The Rev. Joseph P. Rafferty will officiate. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Harveys Lake. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
