John J. Chopick, 90, of Fairview Township, Mountaintop, died Tuesday at Hospice Community Care in-patient unit at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born May 20, 1910, in Mountaintop, he was a son of the late Paul and Susanna (Karlo) Chopick. He worked for the Central Railroad of New Jersey at the Ashley Shops and Allentown area and was an oiler for the Ashley Planes. He was a member of St. Jude's Roman Catholic Church, Mountaintop.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Catherine Kellmer and Margaret Brookus; and brothers, George, Michael and Joseph.

Surviving are his wife, the former Anna Pasola; sister, Mary Brookus, Mountaintop; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday from the McCune Funeral Home, 80 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountaintop, with a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Jude's Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Freeman Lee, Kenneth

Kenneth Freeman Lee, 67, of Shimpstown Road, Mercersburg, died Thursday at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, Md.

Born Nov. 6, 1933, in Scranton, he was a stepson of Anna Naomi (Berg) Lee, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and son of the late Kenneth C. and Dorothy (Freeman) Lee. He was a 1951 graduate of Wyoming Seminary, Kingston, 1955 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Colgate University, Hamilton, N.Y., and 1960 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Philadelphia. He was admitted to the bar in 1961. He practiced law with Black & Davison, Chambersburg, became a partner in the former Lee and Kaye Law Firm, and was twice a sole practitioner. He practiced in Fulton and Franklin counties. He was a solicitor for many municipalities and general council for Beistle Co., Shippensburg. He was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Air Force, transferred to the U.S. Air Force Reserves and was honorably discharged from the reserves with the rank of major. He was a member of the Democratic Party and campaigned for 1972 and 1974 nomination as state senator for the 33rd district. He was a member of Landmark Lodge 442, F & AM, Wilkes-Barre, and honorary member of Chapel of Four Chaplains, Valley Forge.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Aaron; and brother, Stanley F.

Surviving, in addition to his stepmother, are his wife of 41 years, Betty Jane (Weller) Lee; daughter, Margaret A., Lee-Williams, Mechanicsburg; sons, Kenneth W., Camp Hill; Wallace W., Dallastown; and James A., Irvine, Calif.; four grandchildren; and brother, Harry F., Stroudsburg.

A Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. today at the Chapel of Wilson College, 1015 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, with the Rev. Milton W. Benny Jr. officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are by the Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg. Memorial donations may be made to Tuscarora Educational Foundation, 4773 Fort Loudon Road, Mercersburg, 17236.

Theresa Anstett, 89, formerly of Hudson Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Tuesday at Mercy Center, Dallas.

Kreseski, Caroline

Caroline Kreseski, 94, of Duryea, died Monday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Duryea, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Shermack) Steer. She attended Duryea schools. She owned and operated Barber's Cafe, Pittston. She was a member of St. Casimir's Church, Pittston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; son, Joseph; daughter, Shirley Detato; brothers, Michael Stirrcq, Joseph and Frank Steer; and sister, Helen Hood.

Surviving are her son, Donald, Harding section of Exeter Township; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 10:15 a.m. Thursday from the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main St., Duryea, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:45 a.m. at St. Casimir's Church. Interment will be in Marcy Cemetery, Duryea. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Rose Lemardy, 82, of the Falls section of Exeter Township, died Monday at Highland Manor Nursing Care Center, Exeter Township.

Born March 20, 1918, in Pittston, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Josephine (Serino) Parente. She owned and operated the Starlight Restaurant and Lounge, Harding section of Exeter Township. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, Harding/Falls.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Anthony, Joseph, Frank, John and Charles Parente; and sisters, Mary Fonzo, Angeline Lanza, Louise Mirro and Ann DeNisco.

Surviving are her husband, James; son, James, Falls; daughter, Jo Ann Patoka, Harding; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Helen Yankosky, West Pittston; and Elsie Frease, Pittston; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 9:15 a.m. Thursday from the Recupero Funeral Home, 406 Susquehanna Ave., West Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church. Interment will be in Mount View Burial Park, Harding. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

McCarthy, John

John R. "Jack" McCarthy, 94, formerly of Avoca, died Tuesday at the Taylor Nursing Home, Taylor.

Born May 19, 1906, in Avoca, he was a son of the late John and Anna (Gaughan) McCarthy. He attended the Avoca schools. He worked for the Pagnotti Coal Co. in Hazleton. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Church, Avoca, member of its Holy Name Society and SPEBSQSA, the Scranton chapter.

Surviving are his son, John R. "Jack," Jr., Pittston; daughters, Christine Gordon and Sheila Strucke, both of Easton; and Nan Rogers, East New Brunswick, N.J.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nan (Heston) McCarthy; sisters, Jenny, Anna, Margaret and Alice; and brothers, James and Francis.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, 728 Main St., Avoca, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

McDade, Helen

Helen Wanda McDade, of Hollywood, Fla., formerly of Wood Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Nov. 18 in Hollywood, Fla.

Born Sept. 22, 1919, she was the daughter of Eva and Curtis Troutman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; and brothers, Eugene, Herbert and Robert.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Peter Patrin, Hollywood, Fla., with whom she resided.

Arrangements were by Allen & Shaw Cremations Inc., 13931 N.W. 20th Court, Opa Locka, Fla. A Memorial Service was held at the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall, Hollywood, Fla. Interment will be in Pennsylvania.

McGee II, Joseph

Joseph L. McGee II, 51, of Bryton Avenue, North Coventry, Pottstown, died Monday as a result of an hunting accident in Colley Township, Sullivan County.

Born July 7, 1949, in Phoenixville, he was a son of Joseph L. and Helen (Taroski) McGee. He was a 1967 graduate of the Phoenixville Area High School. He was a master electrician and started his own business, McGee Electric. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1972. He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, South Coventry, and the Harley Davidson Organization Association and volunteered as a coach for the Coventry Little League Association.

Surviving are his wife of 29 years, the former Diana Dillio; sons, Joseph L., III, Pottstown; Benjamin M., Boyertown; Adam D., North Coventry; and Jacob A., at home; one grandson, one granddaughter; brother, Richard, Spring City; and sister, Judy Wasylkowski, Phoenixville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Church, Phoenixville. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Devlin-Rosmos-Kepp Funeral Home, 517 Main St., Phoenixville. Local arrangements were by the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore.

Motichko, Francis

Francis Motichko, 52, formerly of Butler Street, West Wyoming, died Monday at the East Mountain Manor.

Born in Pittston, he was the son of Josephine (Adamitz) Motichko, Jenkins Township, and the late Frank Motichko. He attended West Wyoming schools. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, West Wyoming, where he was an usher and member of its Holy Name Society. He was also a member of West Wyoming Hose Co. No. 1.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are several cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, West Wyoming. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton, Kingston Township.

Robert Henry Quinn, of South Grant Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Tuesday at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

Sadloski, Sophie

Sophie Sadloski, 85, formerly of North Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre, and New York City, a resident at Valley Crest, Plains Township, died Tuesday at Valley Crest.

Born Aug. 4, 1915, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Wasil and Helen (Dobish) Molnar. She attended the Wilkes-Barre City schools. She worked for the J.B. Carr Biscuit Co., Wilkes-Barre, Columbia University Teachers College and Platt and Monk, both of New York City, and was a housekeeper throughout Wyoming Valley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; daughter, Mary; brothers, Charles, George, Peter, Michael and Joseph; and sisters, Anna Rodriguez, Mary Jones, Helen Kipiel, Elizabeth Gomba and Rose Simakaski.

Surviving are her son, Barry C., Long Valley, N.J.; daughter, Marion Gaynor, Wilkes-Barre; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the John V. Morris Funeral Home, 625 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre. Monsignor John J. Sempa will officiate. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Dallas. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart/St. John's Parish Community, Social Concerns Committee, 601 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, 18705.

Tluczek, Steven

Steven T. Tluczek, of East Carey Street, Plains Township, died Sunday at home.

Born in Guam, he was a son of Agnes (Tenorio) Tluczek and the late Theodore J. Tluczek. He was a graduate of Bishop Hoban High School. He worked at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and Kaufmann's Department Stores, Wyoming Valley Mall. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Desert Storm.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his daughter, Alexa, Wilkes-Barre; brother, Stewart, San Leandro, Calif.; sister, Susan Earnest, Middletown, Del.; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at a time to be announced from Maple Hill Cemetery Chapel. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township. Arrangements are by the Yeosock Funeral Home, Plains Township.

Voelker, Carl

Carl J. Voelker, 80, of Wingert Road, Wyomissing Hills, Berks County, died Tuesday at the Wyomissing Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, where he resided since Nov. 13.

Born Jan. 23, 1920, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Carl V. and Elizabeth (Reichers) Voelker. He was a 1938 graduate of Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, and 1941 graduate of Penn State, with a certificate in air conditioning and refrigeration. He worked for local union 524, Scranton, and Petro-Jennings, Wilkes-Barre. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the 117th Battalion SeaBees as a fitter first class. He was a life member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and member of Fidelity Lodge 655 F & AM, Wilkes-Barre, and Chandler Lodge 227 F & AM, Reading.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth C. (Washburn) Voelker.

Surviving are his second wife, Verna (Boyer) Voelker; sons, Carl G., Exeter Township; Frederick H., Wilkes-Barre; and Ronald P., Larksville; daughters, Elizabeth C. Harnichar, Gloversville, N.Y.; and Shirley R. Salerno, Pottstown; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren; and sisters, Elizabeth Martin, Wilkes-Barre; Ruth Noble, Dallas; and Catherine McCarthy, Plymouth.

A Memorial Service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Church of Brethren, 2200 State Hill Road, Wyomissing Hills, Berks County. Burial will be in Memorial Shrine Park of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Franklin Township. There will be no viewing. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Masonic services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday by Chandler Lodge 227 F & AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 3551 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, 19140. Arrangements are by the Bean Funeral Home, 425 Penn Ave., Sinking Spring.

Selma Wootton, 80, of Warrior Run, died Monday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born Dec. 10, 1919, in Warrior Run, she was a daughter of the late William and Anna (Jeckel) Bonsavage. She attended Warrior Run schools. She owned and operated Craddock Mills, Warrior Run. She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Wilkes-Barre, and Order of the Eastern Star, Nanticoke, president of the Warrior Run Fire Co. and founder of its auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; and sister, Julia Swilp.

Surviving are her son, Herbert, Warrior Run; daughter, Barbara Bestone, Jersey City; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and brother, William Bonsavage, Warrior Run.

A Memorial Service will be held at a date and time to be announced. Arrangements are by the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, Wilkes-Barre.

Born Sept. 25, 1911, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Theresa (Germann) Klein. She attended St. Nicholas Parochial School, Wilkes-Barre. She worked in the local silk mills. She was a member of St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre, its Altar & Rosary Society, the German-American Federation and the Bavarian Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugo; brothers, Alois and Nicholas Klein; and sisters, Marie Klein and Wilhelmina Boback.

Surviving are her daughters, Catherine Kotlarchick, Jamesburg, N.J.; Mary Pientka, Williston, Vt.; son, Martin, Wilkes-Barre; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sister, Mathilda Klein, Wilkes-Barre; brother, Andrew Klein, Wilkes-Barre; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, Park Avenue and South Street, Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Church. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Shavertown section of Kingston Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mercy Center, Box 370, Lake Street, Dallas, 18612.

Diana Louise Cartwright, 40, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, died Sunday at Providence Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Born Dec. 21, 1959, in Franklin, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Ralph Cartwright and the late Elizabeth (Darling) Cartwright McKenna.

Surviving are her stepfather, Gerard McKenna, formerly of Wilkes-Barre; and sister, Donna Cartwright.

Graveside funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. A Memorial Mass will be at a date to be announced at St. Mary's Church of the Immaculate Conception, Wilkes-Barre. Arrangements are by the McLaughlin Funeral Service.
