Leon R. Moore, of West Wyoming, died Monday at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia.

Born in Elmira, N.Y., he was a son of Leon A. and Catherine (Olenick) Moore. He was a 1960 graduate of Cowanesque Valley High School, Westfield, and 1964 graduate of King's College, Wilkes-Barre. He was self-employed as a certified optician. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as a staff sergeant. He was a member of the Opticians Association of Pennsylvania, Local Susquehanna Chapter of Opticians and St. Joseph's Church, West Wyoming.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his twin brother, Dr. Paul, Montoursville; fiance, Madeline Brackna, West Wyoming; and one niece.

The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Thursday from the Corcoran Funeral Home, 20 S. Main St., Plains Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church. Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Dallas. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. this evening. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Plains Township; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Hoblak, Elizabeth

Elizabeth Hoblak, of Forty Fort, a resident of Hampton House, Hanover Township, for the past three months, formerly of Kingston, died Monday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.She was a daughter of the late Michael, Sr., and Anna (Vrabel) Hoblak. She was a graduate of Edwardsville High School and East Stroudsburg State Teachers College and attended College Misericordia, Dallas Township. She was an elementary teacher at the Russell Street School, Edwardsville, and an artist. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, Edwardsville, and the Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association.

Osinski, Konstanty
Dec. 4, 2000
Konstanty "Kon" C. Osinski, 80, formerly of Lee Park Towers, Lee Park section of Hanover Township, and South Wilkes-Barre, died Monday at the Tiffany Court, Kingston.

Born March 29, 1920, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Konstanty and Mary (Andrulewicz) Osinski. He was a graduate of Meyers High School. He was a cashier and manager for the A & P market and also worked for Percy Browns, Wilkes-Barre. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater and received the Purple Heart. He was also involved in the D-Day invasion in France and received the Bronze Star. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Jean Cherwin; and brother, Edward.

Surviving are his sons, retired captain of U.S. Army, David M., San Antonio; and Dennis P. Fall, Delray Beach, Fla.; daughter, Eileen Gendron, Havertown; one grandson; sisters, Eleanor Hancock, West Pittston; and Bernice McDermott, Kingston; brother, William, Philadelphia; and several nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held from the S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, 530 W. Main St., Plymouth. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to First Assembly of God Church, 780 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, 18702.

Dale Parry, J.
Dec. 4, 2000
J. Dale Parry, 87, of Idetown Road, Lehman Township, died Monday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late Frederick and Mary (Dale) Parry. He was a graduate of Kingston High School, the Wyoming Seminary Dean School of Business and the Wharton School of Business. He owned and operated Dallas Ready Mix Concrete and Paving Co. He was a member of Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas, and the Dallas Rotary Club and was grounds chairman for the Luzerne County Fall Fair.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie (Kane) Parry.

Surviving are his sons, James T., Lehman Township; and John P., Media; four grandchildren; and sister, Eleanor Held, Falls Church, Va.

A Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at Gate of Heaven Church, Machell Avenue, Dallas, with the Rev. John C. Lambert officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dallas Rotary Club Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 149, Dallas, 18612. Arrangements are by the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home Inc., 672 Memorial Highway, Dallas.

Powell, Mary Ann

Mary Ann Powell, 70, of Hamilton Arms Nursing Center, Lancaster, died Thursday of natural causes.

Born in Edwardsville, she was a daughter of the late William and Theresa Rowlands. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis J.; and son, Robin~.

Surviving are her daughters, Emily Holcomb, New Holland; and Pam Rearick, Leola; sons, Louis, Ashley; Wayne, Dixonville; and William, Mohnton; nine grandchildren; sisters, Jennie Howell, Luzerne; and Katherine "Queenie" Palchanis, Larksville; and half-brother, Thomas Rowlands, Seattle.

Private services were held at the convenience of the family. Burial was in the East Mahoning Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Drive, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, 17604-4125.

Redington Sr., Joseph
Dec. 4, 2000
Joseph J. Redington Sr., 93, of Allentown, died of natural causes Monday at his home.

Born Oct. 29, 1907, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Martin and Rose (Shappert) Redington. He was a 1927 graduate of the University of Penn Wharton School, Philadelphia. He was an office manager of sales and service for Mack Truck, Allentown. He was a member of Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena, Allentown. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Marion H. (Henahan) Redington; daughter, Mary Rose Lozada, Summerville, S.C.; sons, Joseph J., Jr., Bethlehem; and Martin, Allentown; and one greatgrandchild.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena, Allentown. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Allentown. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the Robert C. Weir Funeral Home, 1802 W. Turner St., Allentown. Memorial donations may be made to Cathedral Building Fund, 1825 W. Turner St., Allentown, 18104. Arrangements are by the Robert C. Weir Funeral Home.

Schriver, Mary

Mary W. (Hood) Schriver, 82, of Stony Hill Road, Brookfield, Conn., formerly of Norwalk, Conn., died Nov. 5 at the Danbury Hospital.

Born May 11, 1918, in Pittston, she was a daughter of the late Robert A. and Winifred (Culkin) Hood. She attended Pittston schools and was a graduate of Pittston High School. She was a secretary for Vallerie Transportation Co., Norwalk. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Brookfield, its Senior Group and the American Association of Retired Persons.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; and brother, Robert Hood.

Surviving are her sons, Edward J. and Robert W., both of Wilton, Conn.; and James J., Moodus, Conn.; daughters, Judith N. Spindle, New Fairfield, Conn., and Bear Creek Township; M. Kathy Schatteman, Brookfield, with whom she resided; and Joan A., Danbury, Conn.; 14 grandchildren, one great-grandson; brother, Francis Hood, Norwalk; sisters, Jean Himm, Bordentown, N.J.; Margaret Rincavage, Pittston; and Joan Dutko, Miami; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held from the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Church. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Norwalk. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Road, Wilton, Conn., 06897-2523.

Schulz, Dorothy

Dorothy C. Schulz, 85, of Sanford, Fla., formerly of the Heights section of Wilkes-Barre, died Sunday at the Central Florida Regional Hospital, Sanford.

Born Aug. 12, 1915, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Rose (Haggerty) Lynn. She was a graduate of GAR Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre. She worked for death by her husband, Lawrence E.; sisters, Agnes Mutchler and Mae Lancaster; and brothers, Patrick, Sylvester, Francis and Henry Lynn. Surviving are her son, Lawrence, Sanford; two grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; brother, Richard Lynn; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday from the McLaughlin Funeral Service, 142 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church Of The Immaculate Conception. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Motisko, Eugene
Dec. 3, 2000
Eugene A. Motisko, 56, of Nanticoke, died Monday at his home.

Born in Archbald, he was a son of Henry and Carmella (BeMace) Motisko. He attended Newport High School. He was a construction estimator for Aston Development Corp., Scranton. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as an air police officer. He was a member of St. Francis Church, Nanticoke.

Surviving are his wife, the former Margretta Davis; son, Eugene, Jr., Atlanta; daughters, Christine Magdalinski, San Antonio; and Amy Bridal, Shickshinny Lake; brothers, Henry, Jr., Nanticoke; and Ronald, Tucson, Ariz.; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Thursday from the Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 22 Prospect St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Francis Church. Interment will be in Sorber Cemetery, Shickshinny. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Community Care, 25 Church St., Wilkes-Barre, 18702.

Strawbridge, Grace
Nov. 22, 2000
Grace A. Strawbridge, of Rising Sun, Md., formerly of Storm Hill, Wilkes-Barre Township, died Nov. 22 in Elkton, Md.

Born Nov. 28, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Grace Ahouse.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; brothers, Carl, Joseph and Harry Ahouse; and sister, Ida Snyder.

Surviving are her son, Leroy, Elkton; daughter, Bernice Wiggins, Colora, Md.; four grandchildren and one great-grandson; sisters, Beatrice Colleran and Alberta Casella, both of Wilkes-Barre.

Services were held Nov. 25 at the R.T. Foard Funeral Home, Rising Sun. Burial was in Rosebank Cemetery, Rising Sun.

Rev. Gavin Hanlon, The

TThe Rev. Gavin P. Hanlon, OFM, 70, of La Paz, Bolivia, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, died Monday in La Paz.

Born May 29, 1930, in Rochester, Minn., he was the son of the late Francis and Catherine (Conahan) Hanlon and named Francis. He attended St. Mary's Parochial School, was a graduate of St. Mary's High School, Wilkes-Barre, and King's College, Wilkes-Barre, receiving a bachelor of arts degree in biology and attended St. Joseph Seminary, Callicoon, N.Y., and received a doctorate degree in Canon Law from the College of St. Anthony, Rome, Italy. He was received into the Franciscan Order Aug. 12, 1952 in Paterson, N.J. He professed his first vows Aug. 13, 1953, in Paterson. His philosophy studies were done at St. Francis College, Rye Beach, N.H., and St. Anthony's Friary, Butler, N.J., and his theology studies were at Holy Name College, Washington, D.C. He made his final vows Aug. 19, 1956 at Christ the King Seminary, East Aurora, N.Y. He was ordained into the priesthood April 25, 1958 in Mount St. Sepulchre Monastery, Washington, D.C. His assignments were as assistant at St. Francis Chapel, Providence, R.I., St. Anthony Shrine, Boston, St. Stephen of Hungary Parish, New York City, and in Apolo, Bolivia, vicar general of Prelary of Coroico, assistant in Charazani, Bolivia, pastor in Coroico, Bolivia, counselor of the Bolivian Mission and rector of Seminario Del Espiritu Santo, La Paz.

Surviving are his sister, Mrs. Thomas Brennan, Bowie, Md.

The funeral and burial will be in La Paz, Bolivia.

Avvisato, Angeline

Angeline T. Avvisato, 77, of East Columbus Avenue, Pittston, died Wednesday at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born Nov. 18, 1923, in Pittston, she was a daughter of the late Luigi and Josephine (Abate) Butera. She was a 1942 graduate of Pittston High School. She worked in the garment industry, primarily for Pittston Frocks. She was a member of St. Rocco's Roman Catholic Church, Pittston, and the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and the Big Band Society of Northeast Pennsylvania.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip M.; infant daughter, Valia; brothers, Sam and Louis Butera; and sisters, Josephine Callari, Pauline Sperrazza, Rose, Mary and Petrina Butera.

Surviving are her son, Phillip D., at home; granddaughter, Nicole, with whom she resided; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Graziano Funeral Home Inc., 700 Pittston Blvd., Pittston Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Rocco's Roman Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Rocco's Cemetery, Pittston Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to St. Rocco's Roman Catholic Church, Pittston.

Bradley, Ethel

Ethel R. Bradley, 85, of Gibson Avenue, Kingston, died Wednesday at the Hospice Care of the VNA Inpatient Unit at Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Farmer City, Ill., she was a daughter of the late Isaac and Catherine (Beaver) Rinehart. She was a graduate of Newport High School and also graduated as a registered nurse from Lankenau School of Nursing, Philadelphia. She was a member of Church of Christ Uniting, Kingston, Order of the Eastern Star, active member of the Valley Crest Auxiliary and many other civic organizations, and member of the Wyoming Valley Bridge Club and others in the area.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; and son, David H.

Surviving are her daughters, Judy Polliard, Harrisburg; and Carol Card, Houston; son, Robert M., Larksville; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; sister, Minera Briner, Harrisburg; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 12 p.m. Saturday from the Hugh B. Hughes & Son, Inc., Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with the Rev. Gregory C. Myers officiating. Entombment will be in Denison Cemetery Mausoleum, Swoyersville. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Care of the VNA, Wilkes-Barre.

She was a 1939 graduate of Nanticoke High School. She was a stitcher for Country Cousins Shoe Manufacturing, Mocanaqua, and other shoe manufacturers in the area. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church, Nanticoke, its Womens' Catholic Council and American Legion Post 350 Ladies Auxiliary, Nanticoke.

Born in Plymouth, she was the daughter of the late John and Julia (Sylvanus) Zuklia. She attended Plymouth schools. She was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Church, Plymouth, and its Altar and Rosary Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; and brother, Alfred Zuklia.

Surviving is her son, James, Coronado, Calif.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Vincent De Paul Church, Church Street, Plymouth. The viewing will be from 10 a.m. to time of service Saturday at St. Vincent De Paul Church. Arrangements are by the Piszczek Funeral Home, Plymouth.

She worked for Immediate Mail Service, Sharl Manufacturing, Carter Rubber Shoe Factory, Hawk Mountain Motel, Royal Motel, Holiday Inn and the Rutland Plywood Co. She was active with the Wilkes-Barre Little League.
