Floyd A. Hoch, 90, of Montgomery Street, Nescopeck, died Sunday at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born Feb. 12, 1910, in Hobbie, he was a son of the late Clemens and Elmira (Moyer) Hoch. He and his late wife operated Hoch's Restaurant and Bar, Hobbie Corners. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Hobbie.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Caroline Ryman; brothers, Claude, Eugene and Monroe.

Surviving are his son, George, Southgate, Mich.; daughter, Betty Hoch, at home; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Heller Funeral Home, Nescopeck. Burial will be in St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Hobbie. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening. Memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of the church, RR 2, Box 57, Wapwallopen, 18660.

Krenitsky, Helen
Dec. 18, 2000

Helen Krenitsky, 89, of Old Forge, died Monday at home.

Born Feb. 11, 1911, in Old Forge, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Anna (Basalyga) Tyrpak. She worked for the former Butler and Smith Silk Mills. She was a member of St. Michael's Russian Orthodox Church, Old Forge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael; sister, Mary Witiak; and brothers, Walter and Elias Tyrpak.

Surviving are her sons, Michael, Harry and Rev. Elias, all of Old Forge; daughter, Martha Matechak, Great Meadows, N.J.; one granddaughter, brother, Michael Tyrpak, St. Petersburg, Fla.; sisters, Sandra Barsigian, Old Forge; and Vera Cormany, Clinton, Ohio; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 8:45 a.m. Thursday from the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor, with funeral services at 9:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Russian Orthodox Church, with the Rev. David Mahaffey and the Rev. Elias Krenitsky officiating. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Parastas services will be at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial donations may be made to St. Michael's Russian Orthodox Church, Old Forge; or to the donor's favorite charity.

Langdon, John
Dec. 16, 2000

John W. Langdon, 79, of Pennsville Township, N.J., died Saturday at his home.

He was born in Wilkes-Barre. He was a welder for E.I. DuPont Co. Chambers Works and a police officer for the City of Salem. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving as a sergeant. He was a member of Eagles Lodge No. 1966, Salem. He was a certified drug and alcohol counselor.

Surviving are his wife, the former Lula Hill; daughter, Arlene Harris, Woodstown, N.J.; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; brother, William, Wilkes-Barre; sister, Janet Wondolski, Wilkes-Barre; and half sister, Barbara Roloski.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Woodside Funeral Home, 34 Oak St., Salem. Friends may call after 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Salem County Veteran's Cemetery, Pilesgrove, N.J. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Salem County, 310 Woodstown Road, Salem, N.J., 08079.

Ludders, Jane
Dec. 18, 2000

Jane E. Ludders, of the Tunkhannock Manor, Tunkhannock, died Monday at the Carpenter Care Center, Tunkhannock.

Born Oct. 23, 1911, in Maywood, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Harry and May (McCabe) Walters. She was a 1929 graduate of St. Cecilia's High School, Hackensack, N.J., and received a bachelor of science degree from Columbia University in 1933. She was a dental hygienist in several different offices and hospitals in New Jersey and New York.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Al Fausak; second husband, Walter M. Ludders; and brother, Harry Walters.

Surviving are her daughters, Gretchen Ludders, Clark Summit; and Jane~ M. Larrabee, Houston; and one granddaughter.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc., 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with the Rev. Joseph Ziobro officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Tunkhannock Library Building Fund, Marion Street, Tunkhannock, 18657; or to the Lackawanna County Humane Society, Griffen Pond Road, Clarks Summit, 18411.

Reese, Laura
Dec. 12, 2000

Laura Elizabeth Reese, 77, of Locust Avenue, Baltimore, Md., died Dec. 12 at her home.

Born Dec. 18, 1922, in Mildred, she was a daughter of the late Noah and Inez (Pazzaglia) Panichi. She attended local schools. She was a founding member of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, Essex, Md., where she volunteered almost daily, was preparing a document on the church's history and was active with the Evangelical Lutheran Church Women's Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence O.; and son, Lawrence.

Surviving are her son, Lee T., Baltimore; sister, Ruth Sick, West Palm Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews and extended family at Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Funeral services were held Dec. 16 at Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at Cherry Grove Cemetery, Nordmont. Local arrangements are by the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore.

Shedlarski, Anna
Dec. 16, 2000

Anna E. Shedlarski, 88, of State Street, Portland, Maine, formerly of Dallas, Texas, and Wilkes-Barre, died Saturday at the Maine Medical Center, Portland.

Born in Johnstown, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Sarocky) Yurko. She attended Johnstown schools. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Community.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J.; brother, John Yurko; and sisters, Mary Karbowski and Helen Stankowski.

Surviving are her sons, George A., Dallas, Texas; and Thomas, Gray, Maine; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m. today at Holy Cross Chapel, Lewiston, Maine. Interment will be in Dallas, Texas. Arrangements are by the Crosman Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Lisbon Falls, Maine.

Sikora, Kathryn
Dec. 18, 2000

Kathryn I. Sikora, 85, formerly of White Plains, N.Y., died Monday at the East Mountain Manor, Plains Township.

Born June 20, 1915, in Strausstown, she was a daughter of the late Howard D. and Ida May (Anthony) Spatz. She attended Hamburg schools. She worked for the Savin Copy Co., White Plains.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; and three sisters.

Surviving are her sisters, June Wenrich, Shavertown section of Kingston Township; Helen Bodnar, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, 140 N. Main St., Shavertown.

Skursky Sr., Raymond
Dec. 17, 2000

Raymond Skursky Sr., of the Harding section of Exeter Township, died Sunday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in the Port Griffith section of Jenkins Township, he was a son of the late Edward and Anna (Pillets) Skursky.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward Jr., Joseph, John and Alex Skursky.

Surviving are his wife, the former Betty Stead; sons, Raymond Jr. and Scott; sisters, Stella and Eva Skursky and Sophie Kalinski; and brothers, Leonard, Robert and Gene.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Interment in Mountain View Burial Park, Harding. Arrangements are by Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, 509 Wyoming Ave., West Pittston.

Szczecinski, Infant Cole
Dec. 18, 2000

Infant Cole Christopher Szczecinski, forever an angel, son of Curtis and Kristina (Bartram) Szczecinski, of Pioneer Avenue, Shavertown section of Kingston Township, died Monday at birth at Nesbitt Hospital, Kingston.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his brother, Ethan, at home; paternal grandparents, Clem and Maryann Latsko Szczecinski, Wilkes-Barre; maternal grandmother, Patricia McFarland Bartram, Nicholson; paternal great-grandmother, Irene Latsko, Wilkes-Barre; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, Wilkes-Barre.

Wienckowski, Anthony

Anthony Wienckowski, 58, of West Main Street, Plymouth, formerly of Hanover Township, died Monday at home.Born Oct. 19, 1942, in Ashley, he was a son of the late Walter and Mary (Graziul) Wienckowski. He was a graduate of Ashley High School. He worked in the security department at Wilkes College, Wilkes-Barre, and at Foster-Wheeler Corp, Mountaintop. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the St. Mary's-St. Stephen's Church Community, Plymouth.

Wiernusz Sr., Chester J.
Dec. 16, 2000

Chester James Wiernusz Sr., of Anderson Road, Tunkhannock, passed away on Saturday in the Emergency Room at Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock.

He was born in Tunkhannock on June 6, 1936, son of the late Michael and Elizabeth (Tyrarua) Wiernusz. He was a graduate of Tunkhannock High School class of 1955 and was employed by Tunkhannock Area School District in the Maintenance Department. He was a member of the Church of Nativity BVM in Tunkhannock. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Leonard Wiernusz, Edmund Wiernusz, Frank Scranta and Joseph Putek; and a sister, Sophie Podlaski.

Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Irene (Kobylski) Wiernusz; sons and daughters-in-laws, Chester J., Jr. and Christine Wiernusz, of Siloam Springs, Ark.; Gerald and Kim Wiernusz, of Kingston; brothers, Michael Wiernusz, Andrew Scranta, Theodore Scranta; all of Tunkhannock; sisters, Mary Chellis, Cecelia Kobylski and Ann Stroka, all of Tunkhannock; grandchildren, Megan and Jerry J. Wiernusz, of Kingston.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc., 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with Mass of Christian Burial at Church of Nativity BVM at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Tunkhannock. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Chambers, Joseph
Dec. 19, 2000

Joseph Benson Chambers, 90, of Sugar Hollow Road, Tunkhannock, died Tuesday at his home.

Born March 25, 1910, in Scranton, he was a son of the late John Franklin and Josephine (Jayne) Chambers. He was a graduate of Tunkhannock High School. He was an aerial survey mapping pilot and flight instructor. He was a charter member of the OX5 Pilots Club and a Free and Accepted Mason.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Caroline DeWolfe.

Surviving are his sons, Joseph, Owego, N.Y.; and William, Tunkhannock; daughters, Barbara Henning, Tunkhannock; and Jeanne Faux, Owego, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; brother, Lewis, Chalfont; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Harding-Litwin Funeral Home, 123 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock.

Crossmon, Ruth
Dec. 19, 2000

Ruth I. Crossmon, 77, of Thurston Hollow, Tunkhannock, formerly of Noxen, died Tuesday at home.

Born March 2, 1923, in Beaumont, she was a daughter of the late William and Ethel (Decker) Jones. She was a seamstress in several dress factories in the Back Mountain area. She attended the Eaton Baptist Church, Eaton Township.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William H.; daughter, Linda Grady; brother, Robert Jones; and sisters, Eleanor Patton, Mildred Jackson and Betty Jones.

Surviving are her son, David W., Factoryville; daughters, Peggy Scranta, with whom she resided; and Emily Zim, Harveys Lake; stepdaughter, Janice Fowler, Eastleigh, England; 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and sister, Emily Lane, Interlachen, Fla.

The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Thursday from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home Inc., corner of Routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with the Rev. Brian Hill officiating. Interment will be in the Orcutt's Grove Cemetery, Noxen. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Glomb, Lottie

Lottie Glomb, of Dupont, died Tuesday at the Highland Manor, Exeter.Born in Dupont, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Antoinette Opiela. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, Dupont, and its Altar and Rosary Society.

Hosage, John

John O. Hosage, 90, of South Sherman Street, Wilkes-Barre, and a resident at Valley Crest, Plains Township, died Tuesday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Andrew and Helen (Halasnick) Hosage. He attended GAR High School. He was an electrical contractor. He was also an electrical inspector for the City of Wilkes-Barre and Keystone Electrical Inspectors Services. He was a member of Union Local 163, Wilkes-Barre.

Hughes, William
Dec. 19, 2000

William J. Hughes, of Pittston Township, died Tuesday at Wesley Village Nursing Home, Jenkins Township.

Born in Minooka, he was a son of the late Patrick J. and Ellen (Farrell) Hughes. He was a 1933 graduate of Minooka High School. He worked for Railway Express, Scranton, and Operating Engineers of Eastern Pennsylvania, Local 542. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church and the Holy Name Society.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen (Gavigan) Hughes.

Surviving are his daughter, Ann Marie Higgins, at home; son, William P., Thornhurst; five grandchildren, one great-grandson; brothers, Peter, Scranton; Gerald, Moscow; and Patrick, Colonia, N.J.; sisters, Marie and Ann, both of Minooka; and Ursala Lubreski, Edison, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews; and companion, Mary Rash, Hanover Township.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday from the Eagen-Hughes Funeral Home, 2908 Birney Ave., Scranton, with Mass at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William St., Pittston. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Memorial donations may be made to the ALS Foundation, 366 N. Main St., Taylor, 18517.

Kaufman, Jordan
Oct. 15, 2000
Jordan Eugene Kaufman, 46, died Oct. 15 in Chicago, of complications of a lifelong chronic illness.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Glorya (Line) Kaufman. He was valedictorian of the class of 1972 at GAR High School. He was presented with the Bausch & Lomb Science Award, the Lamp of Learning and a lettered jacket for his six years in the marching band. He attended Gettysburg University on a full academic scholarship, graduating magna cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry and departmental honors in his field. He won the 1976 American Chemical Society's Award as the 'most outstanding senior chemistry major' in his class. He also won that year's prize from Skeptical Chemysts. He represented Gettysburg College on the intercollegiate teams for bowling and table tennis. He was a member of Theta Chi social fraternity. He was appointed as full-time assistant instructor in the chemistry department. He attained a master of science degree in chemistry in 1979 at Northwestern University, Chicago, and entered a doctoral program. He attained a black belt in aikido. He was a consultant in scientific and engineering equipment related to the health care field.

Surviving are his son, Matthew, Buffalo Grove, Ill.; sister, Virginia Transue, Kingston; and one nephew.

Friends and family may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the home of Virginia Transue, 585 Ford Ave., Kingston. Interment will be in Albert Cemetery, Mountaintop. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Jordan Kaufman Memorial Fund at the Wilkes-Barre Area School District Administration Office, 730 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre.
