Victoria B. Krincek, 96, of the Hilldale section of Plains Township, died Tuesday at Manorcare Health Services, Kingston.

Born in Poland, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Caroline (Tanistra) Pientka. She owned and operated the Pierce Street Diner, Kingston, and was affiliated with Kozy K. Krincek's Catering, Ashley. She was a member of Child Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Pittston, and the Third Order of St. Frances.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; sons, Stanley, John and Francis; daughters, Angela; and infant daughter, Joann; granddaughters, Mary Ann Snarski and Leah Krincek; and brothers, John, Frank, Joseph and Michael Pientka and Walter and Larry Pilecki.

Surviving are daughters; Ann Koulik, Hilldale, with whom she resided; and Mary Benzi, Mountaintop; sons, Edward, Wilkes-Barre; Vincent, Chatham, N.J.; and Joseph, Mountaintop; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the Corcoran Funeral Home, 20 S. Main St., Plains Township, with a Requiem Mass at 9:30 a.m. at Child Jesus Roman Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton section of Kingston Township. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. this evening.

Krajewski, Lillian
Jan. 3, 2001
Lillian T. Krajewski, of Maple Street, Nanticoke, died Wednesday morning at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Nanticoke, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Johanna (Rejman) Barnat. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Nanticoke.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin.

Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Bobb, Wilmington, Del.; son, Gerald, Madison, Ohio; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and sister, Eleanor Jarolim, Nanticoke.

The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Friday from the Earl W. Lohman Funeral Home, 14 W. Green St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. Entombment will be at the mausoleum at St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. this evening.

Konnick, Sophie

Sophie Konnick, 83, of East Chicago, Ind., died Dec. 19 at home.

Born in the Hudson section of Plains Township, she was a daughter of the late Ignatius and Rose (Garbulinska) Konieczny. She attended Plains Township schools. She worked for Roxanna Supermarket, East Chicago. She was a member of All Saints Church, Hammond, Ind., and St. Mary's Church, East Chicago.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael; and brother, Stanley.

Surviving are her daughters, Cindy Rushin, Calumet City, Ill.; Miki Jarvie, Frankfort, Ill.; and Shelley Konnick, Calumet City; son, Ronald, Sandy, Utah; six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; sisters, Lottie Wysocki, Metuchen, N.J.; Frances Wanek and Rosalie Prescavage, both of Hudson; Jean Brezinski, Michigan; Leocadia Ason, Hammond; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The funeral was Dec. 22 at the Fife Funeral Home, 4201 Indianapolis Blvd., East Chicago, with a funeral Mass at All Saints Church, Hammond. Entombment was in St. John's Cemetery Mausoleum, Hammond.

Krupa, Paul

Paul A. Krupa, 50, of Exeter, died Tuesday at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia.Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Joseph and Susan (Polocko) Krupa. He was a graduate of Coughlin High School and attended King's College. He worked for Western and Southern Life Insurance, Kingston. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church and committee member of Boy Scout Troop 285, both of Duryea.

Montagna, Ross

Ross I. "Pop" Montagna, 72, of Exeter, Greater Pittston area, died Wednesday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born May 16, 1928, in Pittston Township, he was a son of the late Salvatore and Rosemary (Mangeruga) Montagna. He was affiliated as an assistant manager for the Skyliner Diner, Pittston Township. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving as private first class. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, West Pittston, Post 00283 Disabled American Veterans, Kingston, and Military Order of Purple Heart.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Rose Rizzuto; and brothers, Fred Scromo, Charles, Michael and Sam Montagna.

Surviving are his wife, Mary (De Bella) Montagna; daughters, Mary Carol Montagna, at home; and Joann Montagna, New Hope; one granddaughter; brother, Joseph; Pittston Township; sisters, Frances Galante, Pittston Township; and Angeline Montagna, Pittston; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Graziano Funeral Home Inc., 700 Pittston Blvd., Pittston Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will be in St. Rocco's Cemetery, Pittston Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Mayewski, Norman

Norman G. Mayewski of West Main Street, Nanticoke, died Tuesday at his home.

Born in Nanticoke, he was a son of the late Leo and Clara (Duda) Mayewski. He worked at Bartuska's Furniture Store, Nanticoke. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. Francis Church, Nanticoke.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Tiffany Mayewski; brother, Frank; and sister, Irene Kutera.

Surviving are his wife, the former Julia Tolodzieski; sons, Norman, David and Joseph, all of Nanticoke; daughter, Cynthia Zavatsky, Wilkes-Barre; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and brother, John Yackimowski, Hazleton.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Earl W. Lohman Funeral Home, 14 W. Green St., Nanticoke, with the Rev. William P.J. Langan officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Margavitch, Edith

Edith K. Margavitch, 96, of Tiffany Court, died Tuesday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born May 17, 1904, in Ashley, she was a daughter of the late William and Bertha (DeHaven) Kern. She attended Ashley schools. She was a machine operator at the former Funke Fabric Mill. She was a life member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, Ashley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William; brother Kenneth Kern; and sister, Mildred Drendall.

Surviving are three nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Chapel at Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township, with the Rev. Harriet Santos officiating.

Internment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, Wilkes-Barre.

Makstutis, Julia

Julia P. (Postupak) Makstutis, 83, of Levittown, died Monday at Frankford Hospital, Bucks County Campus.

She was born in Wilkes-Barre. She was an expert seamstress, specializing in dressmaking, slipcovers and draperies and worked at Singer's, Wilkes-Barre. She taught sewing at the LPRA and Pennsbury Night School, both of Levittown, and was a gate guard at the LPRA Indian Creek Pool. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Levittown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph P.

Surviving are her son, John, Levittown; daughter, Nancy Jo Hartnett, Bristol; two granddaughters; sister, Josephine Watson, Everson, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may attend a life celebration Saturday, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 5201 Emilie Road, Levittown. Interment will follow at the Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Cemetery, Tamaqua. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Beck-Givnish of Lower Bucks, 7400 New Falls Road, Levittown.

McDonough Jr., Frank

Frank D. McDonough Jr., of First Avenue, Kingston, died Tuesday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Frank and Catherine (Moran) McDonough. He was a graduate of Coughlin High School, Wyoming Seminary Business School and Wilkes University, with a journalism degree. He was a suburban editor for the Citizens' Voice. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Therese Roman Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre.

Surviving are his wife, the former Joan McCool; sons, Frank, III, Joseph and Paul, all of Wilkes-Barre; daughters, Patricia Ann Auker and Shiela Rothenbecker, both of Wilkes-Barre; and Mary Mallery, Hanover Township; 14 grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Mooney, Edison, N.J.; Jean Cauley, Kingston; and Kay Cavanaugh, Laflin.

The funeral will be at 9:45 a.m. Friday from the Matthew T. Jacobs Funeral Home Inc., 47 Old River Road, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Therese Roman Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Mount Olivet Mausoleum, Carverton section of Kingston Township. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. this evening. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Wilkes-Barre.

Porro, Rev. Andrew

Rev. Andrew F. Porro, OSJ, a resident of Oblates of St. Joseph Rest Home, Asti, Italy, and member of the Congregation of the Oblates of St. Joseph, died Tuesday in Asti.

Born Dec. 8, 1921, in Rocchetta Tanaro, Asti, Italy, he was the son of the late Giovanni and Angelica (Rondoletto) Porro. He began training for the priesthood in 1932 and was ordained a priest for the Oblates of St. Joseph June 23, 1946, in Asti. He served in various capacities within the congregation in the Pittston area and in Washington, D.C. He planned and supervised the construction of the Oblates of St. Joseph Seminary, Laflin, and was its first rector. He was a Latin and English teacher at the Oblates of St. Joseph International House of Studies in Rome and chaplain to the Carmelite Sisters during his tenure in Rome.

A funeral Mass will be held today at St. Joseph's Shrine, Asti. Interment will be in the Asti Cemetery in the crypt of the Oblates of St. Joseph. A Memorial Mass will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the Oblates of St. Joseph Seminary Chapel, Route 315, Laflin. Arrangements are by the Adonizio Funeral Home Inc., 251 William St., Pittston.

Namey, Fannie

Fannie Namey, of Brown Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Wednesday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born Sept. 20, 1911, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Zanie (Mamary) Namey. She attended Wilkes-Barre area schools. She worked for Acme Warehouse. She was a member of Teamsters Union Local 401, St. Mary's Antiochian Orthodox Church, Wilkes-Barre and its Ladies Auxiliary and was the church's Sunday school teacher.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Bessie Jacobs, Ruth Solomon and Mary Reh; and brothers, Elias "Leo" and George.

Surviving are her sisters, Irene Tennereillo and Helen Koscak, both of Wilkes-Barre; sons, Joseph, Sugar Notch; Michael and John, both of Wilkes-Barre; and Dr. Norman, Kingston; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Mamary-Durkin Funeral Service, 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, 905 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre; or to the Hospice Community Care, Kingston.

Nasser, Catherine

Catherine M. Nasser, of the Green Ridge section of Scranton, died Wednesday at Moses Taylor Hospital.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late George and Cecelia (Oblen) Esseff. She was a 1942 graduate of GAR High School. She was a member of many civic and social organizations in the Scranton area.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph and Anthony; and sisters, Sarah and Mariomcq Esseff, Martha Khoury and Mae Harry.

Surviving are her husband of 50 years, William K., Sr., CPA; daughter, Theresa, Scranton; sons, William, Jr. and Joseph, both of Scranton, and John, at home; nine grandchildren; brother, Dr. Peter Esseff, Tampa, Fla.; sister, Ann Kelly, Derwood, Md.; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., Scranton, with Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Clare's Church, North~ Washington Avenue, Scranton. Interment~ will be in Cathedral Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1101 Hill St., Jessup, 18434.

Polak Sr., John

John W. "Yank" Polak Sr., formerly of Sixth Street, Wyoming, died Wednesday at Manorcare Health Services, Kingston.

Born in Exeter, he was a son of the late Andrew J., Sr. and Anna (Hvozdich) Polak. He worked for the Dial Rock Coal Co., Exeter, and was associated in the Monument Business, Kingston. He was a member of St. Cecilia's Church, Exeter.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Helen Schultz; sister, Marion Voloski; and brother, George Pollack.

Surviving are his sons, John, Jr., Wyoming; Edward, Audubon, N.J.; and Richard, Larksville; daughter, Anna Grace Scarantino, Forty Fort; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; brother, Andrew J., Kingston; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the Kopicki Funeral Home, 263 Zerbey Ave., Kingston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Church. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton section of Kingston Township. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. this evening.

Parker, Arthur

Arthur Parker, 84, of North Rampart Boulevard, Las Vegas, formerly of Kingston, died Dec. 29 at the Henderson Nursing Center, Henderson, Nev.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Arthur and Katherine (Miller) Parker. He was a graduate of Kingston High School and attended Wilkes College. He was an assistant manager at American Auto Store, Kingston, and worked for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and retired at the rank of major.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Kingston, served on its council and was a superintendent of its Sunday school. He was also a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Summerlin, Nev., the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Kingston, Kingston Masonic Lodge 395, Irem Temple and Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg. He was a national commander and national chaplain of Society of 28th Division and served on the Governor's Council for Veterans Outreach.

Surviving are his wife, the former Florence Moser; and son, Arthur W., Las Vegas.

Funeral services and internment will be Jan. 5 in the Southern Nevada National Veterans Cemetery, Bolder City, Nev. The Rev. Steven Knutfen will officiate.

Spagnola, Harry

Harry F. Spagnola, 86, of the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, died Wednesday at Wesley Village.Born in Miners Mills, he was a son of the late Anthony and Virginia (Picarelli) Spagnuolo. He was a graduate of Coughlin High School. He was a mail carrier and worked at the state Department of Environmental Resources. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Plains American Legion, Joseph E. Conlon Post 558, and Blessed Sacrament Church, Miners Mills, president of the Holy Name Society and Democratic committeeman in Miners Mills.
