January 12, 2001

Elizabeth E. (Krosofski) Kurisky, of Schooley Avenue, Exeter, died Friday at Highland Manor Nursing Home, Exeter.

Born in Edwardsville, she was a daughter of the late Victor and Mary (Koval) Krosofski.

She was a member of St. Hedwig's Church, Kingston, and the Polish Women's Alliance.

She was preceded in death by her first husband of 25 years Eugene Kane; second husband or 30 years, Peter Kurisky; brothers, John, Anthony and Michael Krosofski; and sisters, Ann Krosofski and Cecelia Johnson.

Surviving are her sons, James Kane, Kingston; Eugene "Jack" Kane, Swoyersville; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Private funeral services will be at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Dallas.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes Mass offerings or memorial donations to the American Heart Association, 71 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, Pa. 18701.

Barnett, Richard
January 13, 2001

Richard P. Barnett, of Custer Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Saturday at his home.

Born Nov. 28, 1920, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Owen and Hannah (Phillips) Barnett.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

He worked at the Tobyhanna Army Depot.

He was a member of Lodge No. 442 F&AM, Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Maureen Costello

Surviving are his wife, the former Mabella Owens; sons, Owen, Pittston; and Richard Jr., Wilkes-Barre; two grandsons; and sister, Ann Price, Fort Myers, Fla.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Frederick & Snowdon Funeral Home, 617 Carey Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Kenneth George of the Puritan Congregational Church officiating.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday.

Wasilko Sr., Stephen
January 13, 2001

Stephen J. Wasilko Sr., 63, of Waterton Road, Shickshinny, died Saturday of a heart attack.

Born April 21, 1937, in Nanticoke, he was a son of the late Matthew and Rose (Vavrasek) Wasilko.

He operated the Wasilko Garage, Mocanaqua, and owned B&S Distributors, Mocanaqua, the Ridall Bus Line Inc. and the Wasilko Bus Line Inc., which contracted with the Northwest Area School District.

He was a member of St. Martha's Church, Fairmount Springs, and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Luzerne and Glen Lyon councils.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael.

Surviving are his wife of 42 years, the former Barbara Cravitz; son, Stephen J. Jr., Frederick, Md.; daughter, Deborah Rutkoski, Shickshinny; two grandsons; brother, Frank Wasilko, Bethel; and sister, Rosemary Pinca, Thorton.

Funeral services will be at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday from the Mayo Funeral Home, 77 N. Main St., Shickshinny, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Martha's Church, with the Rev. Thomas Hudak officiating.

Interment will be in the parish Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Martha's Church, RR 2 Box 265, Hunlock Creek, Pa. 18621.

Caporaletti, Ernest

Ernest "Fluffy" Caporaletti, 86, of Hunlock Creek, died Friday at the Berwick Retirement II Village Nursing Home.

Born June 21, 1914, in Mocanaqua, he was a son of the late John and Anna (Grelli) Caporaletti.

He worked for the City of Fort Lee, N.J.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Isabel Evarts; sisters, Mary Grelli and Viola Lacata; and brothers, Andrew and Frank.

Surviving are his stepchildren, Ronald Evarts, Mocanaqua; Edwin Evarts, New York; Phyllis Leskowsky, Pikes Creek; and Shirley Atherton, Hunlock Creek; brother, Evo, Shickshinny; several grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday from the Clarke Piatt Funeral Home Inc., 6 Sunset Lake Road, Hunlock Creek, with the Rev. Edward Zawadniak officiating.

Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Pikes Creek.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Wasley, Mary
January 12, 2001

Mary L. (Ridall) Wasley, 93, of Valley Manor Nursing Center, Coopersburg, formerly of Laurel Run and Wilkes-Barre, died Friday at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown.

Born March 27, 1907, in Waterton, Huntington Township, she was a daughter of the late John T. and Clara (Kingsbury) Ridall.

She was a graduate of Huntington Mills High School and Wilkes-Barre Business College.

She was a secretary for the Gordon Yetter Insurance Co., Wilkes-Barre, and worked at the Robert W. Laux Insurance Co., Wilkes-Barre, and the Robert Bertram Insurance Co.

She was a member of the Laurel Run Primitive Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, the Ladies Aid Society and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John R.; son, John R. Jr.; brothers, Edgar and Frank Ridall; and sisters, Beatrice Smith, Ruth Cottle and Mable Noble.

Surviving are her son, William Wasley, Whitehall; brother, Carlton Ridall, Huntington Mills; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday from the Kniffen-O'Malley Funeral Home, 465 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. George P. Kropp officiating.

Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Laurel Run Primitive Methodist Church, 3835 Laurel Run Road, Wilkes-Barre, Pa. 18702.

Dunn, Frank
January 13, 2001

Frank M. Dunn, 71, of New Grant Street, East End, Wilkes-Barre, died Saturday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born July 6, 1929, in Laflin, he was a son of the late Francis P. and Mary (Kane) Dunn.

He was a graduate of West Pittston High School.

He was a master mechanic for the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station, Salem Township, and executive director of maintenance with the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission for the Northeast Extension of the turnpike.

He was active in local and state politics as a Pennsylvania State Committeeman for the Democratic Party. He was a member of Holy Saviour Church, Wilkes-Barre, Operating Engineers Local 542, Plains Township, the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Dunn; and brother, Capt. John F. Dunn.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, the former Rita Bontempi; daughter, Michelle Anthony, Wilkes-Barre; sons, John J. and Brian F., both of Wilkes-Barre; and Michael J., Philadelphia; eight grandchildren; sister, Irene Hall, Wilkes-Barre; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday from the E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Saviour Church.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Barna, Mary Ann

Mary Ann Barna, 85, formerly of Main Street, Sugar Notch, died Monday at Smith Health Care LTD., Mountaintop.

Funeral arrangements are pending from the George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 105 N. Main St., Ashley.

Brislin, Kevin
Jan. 7, 2001

Kevin Brislin of Hazle Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Sunday at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born Oct. 10, 1959, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of Rita (Schappert) Brislin, Wilkes-Barre, and the late John G. Brislin. He was a graduate of GAR High School. He was self-employed as a master plumber. He was a member of McCarthy's Dart League and St. Conrad's Young Men's Society.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife of 14 years, Ruth (Handzo) Brislin; daughter, Kristen Brislin, at home; son, Michael, at home; stepdaughter, Tracey McNulty, Edwardsville; one stepgrandson; and brothers, John and Edward, both of Wilkes-Barre; and Keith, Dunmore.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Walter W. Lisman and Son Funeral Home, 233 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre. Private interment will be at a later date. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial donations may be made to St. Nicholas Church Building Fund, c/o St. Nicholas Church, South Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre.

Brady, Catherine
Jan. 8, 2001

Catherine V. Brady, 92, of Lehigh Tannery, Kidder Township, White Haven, died Monday at the St. Luke's Manor, Hazleton.

Born in White Haven, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Mary (McTague) Brady. She worked for Freeland Sport Wear. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church, White Haven.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Dr. Charles Ostrum, Daniel and Francis Brady; and sister, Mary Broskoski.

Surviving are her brother, Joseph, Lehigh Tannery, White Haven; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday from the Joseph E. Lehman Funeral Home Inc., 403 Berwick St., White Haven, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church. Interment will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, White Haven. The Rev. Stephen Stavoy will officiate. Friends may call from 8:45 a.m. to time of Mass Wednesday at the funeral home.

Brennan, Angela
Jan. 8, 2001

Angela Brennan, 75, formerly of Pittston, a guest at Highland Manor Nursing Home, Exeter, died Monday at the facility.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Finneran) Bannon. She was graduate of Pittston High School. She worked in the area garment industry. She was a member of St. Mary's Help of Christian Church, Pittston, it's Altar and Rosary Society and it's Marian Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul.

Surviving are her daughters, Mary Ann Bolis, Exeter; and Patricia Redding, Duryea; three grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth Bannon, Florida; James Bannon, Pittston; and Joseph Bannon, Goldsboro, N.C.; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main St., Duryea, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Help of Christian Church. Entombment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton section of Kingston Township. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Capwell, Richard
Jan. 8, 2001

Richard J. Capwell, of Overfield Township, died Monday at home.

Born Oct. 3, 1912, he was the son of the late Jay and Altha (Farnham) Capwell. He worked for Greenwood Furniture Store, Tunkhannock.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth (Eckel) Capwell; sons, James, State College; and Bradley, Dalton; daughter, Eileen Pruyne, Charlotte, N.C.; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Lake Winola. Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Coleman, Maxine
Dec. 26, 2000

Maxine (Konecke) Coleman, 53, of Southern California, died Dec. 26 as a result of a motor vehicle accident in Santa Anna, Calif.

Born Dec. 27, 1946, in Mountaintop, she was the daughter of late Maximilliancq and Helen Konecke. She was a graduate of St. Mary's High School and Hahnemann School of Nursing. She was a nurse, nursing supervisor and medical auditor at many area hospitals in Orange County.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Suzanne Kelly Konecke.

Surviving are her son, Brent, Costa Mesa, Calif.; daughter, Jodi, Costa Mesa; brothers, Dr. Lee Konecke, Wayne; and Dr. Ron Konecke, Wyoming; nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass and interment were performed Dec. 30 at Pacific View Memorial Park, Newport Beach, Calif., with the Rev. Joseph Fertal officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 216 N. River St., Wilkes-Barre, 18702.

Cagle, Marian
Jan. 6, 2001

Marian A. Cagle, 80, of Duryea, died Saturday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born in Duryea, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Senak) Stewart. She was a graduate of Duryea High School. She worked for the National Bank of Detroit, Detroit. She was a member of the United Brick Methodist Church, Duryea.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall; brother, Harold Stewart; and sister, Dorothy Stewart.

Surviving are her son, Stewart, Sarasota, Fla.; two grandsons, nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main St., Duryea, with services by the Rev. Robert Wood. Interment will be in Marcy Cemetery, Duryea. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
