Falzone, Samuel

Samuel V. Falzone, of Wyoming, formerly of Dunmore and Pittston, died Sunday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Pittston, he was son of the late Vincent and Michalina (Alaimo) Falzone. He was a graduate of Pittston High School and held a bachelor's degree from St. Thomas College. He was a Pittston school director and chief clerk of accounts and finance for the City of Pittston. He owned the shoe department of the Peter Polly Shoppe, Scranton, and managed La Dance Physique, Kingston.

He was active in many community organizations, member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Exeter, fourth degree knight and president of the Knights of Columbus, president of the Scranton Chapter of UNICO and charter member of Fides Club of St. Rocco's Church.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Josephine Mack; sisters, Mary Falzone, Philipine Del Monte and Michalina Leone.

Surviving are his second wife, the former Lucille (Occhipenti) Anzalone; son, Vincent, Tyler, Texas; daughters, Catherine Gilbode, Allentown; and Marilyn Skettino, Dunmore; stepsons, Dr. Angelo Anzalone, Shavertown section of Kingston Township; and attorney James Anzalone, Philadelphia; stepdaughter, Dr. Deborah Anzalone, Malvern; and brother, Ross, Pittston.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Adonizio Funeral Home Inc., 251 William St., Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Pittston.

Martin, Eleanor

Eleanor J. Martin, 75, of Andover Street, Rolling Mill section of Wilkes-Barre, died Monday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.Born in Hudson, Plains Township, she was a daughter of the late Adam and Lottie (Bilski) Lutinski. She attended Wilkes-Barre Area schools. She worked in the local garment industry as a serger for the Allan Manufacturing Co., Ashley, and worked for the former Ostreicher's Co., Wilkes-Barre, and the former Gort Girls Co., Hudson. She was a member of St. Boniface Roman Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre, and the local International Ladies Garment Workers Union.

Randolph, Louis Sr.
Jan. 7, 2001

Louis R. Randolph Sr., of Mayland Street, Philadelphia, died Jan. 7 at Germantown Hospital.

Born Dec. 21, 1934, in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Wallace and Ella Mae Randolph. He attended schools in the Philadelphia Public School System. He was an auto mechanic for Davis Buick and he was a bus driver for SEPTA. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church, Philadelphia, where he was a deacon and president of the R.J. Langston Chorus.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Marva; and sons, Jeffrey and Oliver.

Surviving are his daughters, Sarah Ann Claiborne, Philadelphia; and Denise Roberts, Wilkes-Barre; sons, Louis, Jr., Wilkes-Barre; and Howard, Sr., Philadelphia; 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; brother, John, Philadelphia; one great uncle, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held Jan. 13 at the Zion Baptist Church, Philadelphia, with the Rev. William B. Glenn officiating. Interment was in Chelten Hills Cemetery, Philadelphia.

Ruckle, Elizabeth
Jan. 16, 2001

Elizabeth M. Ruckle, 90, of Center Street, Wanamie section of Newport Township, formerly of Canadensis, died Monday at Riverstreet Manor, Wilkes-Barre, where she was a patient for five years.

Born Aug. 9, 1910, in Pond Hill, Conyngham Township, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Emma (Slusser) Smith. She attended the Shickshinny schools. She was a housekeeper for Sky Top Lodge in the Poconos, and was a clerk at the former Ben Franklin Store, Nanticoke. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, State Street, Nanticoke.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph.

Surviving are her daughter, Beverly Orlando, with whom she resided; two grandsons, three great-grandsons, one great great-grandson, and several nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services will be held from the Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad St., Nanticoke, with the Rev. Peter D. Kuritz officiating. Interment will be in Pond Hill Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

Sternick, Mary
Jan. 13, 2001

Mary M. Sternick, of Ulm Road, Palm Bay, Fla., formerly of New Jersey, died Saturday at the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center, Palm Bay.

Born in Luzerne, she was a daughter of the late Peter J. and Susan (Uter) Stravinsky. She worked for the Hoffman-La Roche Pharmaceutical Co., Nutley, N.J. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Palm Bay.

Surviving are her husband, Walter E.; sister, Florence Stravinsky, Luzerne; and brother, Joseph Stravinsky, Dallas.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Kopicki Funeral Home, 263 Zerbey Ave., Kingston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Hedwig's Church, Kingston. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Dallas. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Edwards, Douglas K.

Douglas Keith Edwards, 49, of Crystal River, Fla., formerly of Lake Silkworth, died Thursday at the Seven Rivers Community Hospital, Florida.Born March 21, 1951, in Lexington, N.C., he was a son of Lewis Edwards, Crystal River, Fla., and Dorothy Ruth Horne, Lexington, N.C.

Scott D. Kline Jr., 78, of Main Road, Hunlock Creek, died Friday at Berwick Hospital.Born May 26, 1922, in Shickshinny, he was a son of the late Scott D. and Leoda Kline.

Golaszewski, Stanley E.

Stanley E. Golaszewski, age 72, formerly of Nanticoke, died Sunday, Jan. 14, at Oakwood Hospital-Heritage Center, Taylor, Mich.

Born and raised in Nanticoke, he was the son of the late Anthony and Anna (Lyszewski) Golaszewski. He attended Nanticoke schools and was a member of The Holy Name of Jesus Polish National Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 until his discharge in 1949. Returning to Nanticoke after he left the Army, he marriage and moved to Michigan and was employed by the Textron Corp. and later by Excello Corp., of Taylor, Mich., as a tool and die setter. He established his residence and lived in Taylor until the present time.

Preceding him in death are brothers, Anthony and Edward; and sisters, Mary Gory and Jeanne Nimore.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, the former Henrietta Frankowski, of Nanticoke; are a son, Stanley, Jr. (Erin), and also a daughter, Mrs. Keith (Linda) Renner, both of Taylor, Mich.; grandchildren, Donna (Thomas), Keith, Jr., Nicole and Christopher, and great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Thomas, III.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 18, from the Grontkowski Funeral Home, 51-53 W. Green St., Nanticoke, at 9:30 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Holy Name of Jesus Polish National Catholic Church, Prospect Street, Nanticoke. The Very Rev. Thaddeus J. Dymkowski is the celebrant. Interment will be at the parish Cemetery, Lake Silkworth. Friends may call Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Prayer Service will be held Wednesday evening, conducted by the Very Rev. Thaddeus Dymkowski.

Abraham, Millie

Millie Abraham, 90, of Old Forge, died Tuesday at home.

Born July 21, 1910, in Scranton, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Nazha (Shaer) Driebe. She attended Scranton schools and Lackawanna Business College, Scranton. She was a member of St. Ann Maronite Catholic Church, Scranton, and Our Lady Queen of Peace Sodality of the church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; brothers, Paul T. and Dr. William T.; infant brother, Joseph; and sisters, Julia Ann Driebe and Alice Ferris.

Surviving are her daughters, Ann Sica and Marilyn Smar, both of Old Forge; two granddaughters; brothers, John and Philip Driebe, both of Scranton; and Peter Driebe, Kingston; sisters, Amelia E. Sumilas and Josephine Michaels, both of Scranton; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 9:45 a.m. Friday from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, with a funeral Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann Maronite Catholic Church, North Sumner Ave., West Scranton. The Rev. Claude W. Franklin Jr. will officiate. Interment will be in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. An Incense Service will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Claude W. Franklin Jr. officiating.

Buckovich, Michael

Michael Buckovich, of Shawnee Avenue, Plymouth, died Sunday at home.

Born Nov. 5, 1910, in Plymouth, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Anna (Kasenchak) Buckovich. He was a mechanic for the American Tobacco Co. He was a member of Goodwill Hose Co. No. 2, Plymouth, and the Six County Firemen Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Anna Hillard.

Surviving are his daughters, Julia K. Piatt, Estero, Fla.; Sylvia Hobbs, Wolcott, Conn.; and Lois Monka, Plymouth; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Shebloski, Larksville.

A Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas, with the Rev. Doublisky officiating. Memorial donations may be made to St. Clement and St. Peter Episcopal Church, 70 Lockhart St., Wilkes-Barre, 18702. Arrangements are by the Frederick & Snowdon Funeral Home, 617 Carey Ave., Wilkes-Barre.

Pudloski, Lawrence

Lawrence "Whitey" Pudloski, of Jones Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Monday at the Hospice Community Care Unit at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Anthony and Mary (Orzeckowski) Pudloski. He owned and operated the Lucky Inn, Blackman Street, Wilkes-Barre, was a driver for Friedman's Express and was a crossing guard for the Wilkes-Barre Area School District. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Patrick Church, Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Benny, Tony, Joseph, John, Leonard, Thomas and Chester; and sister, Verna Cooney.

Surviving are his wife, the former Ann Parrish; son, Larry, Easton; daughter, Ann Marie Blaum, Wilkes-Barre; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Church, Parrish Street, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Arrangements are by the James M. Desiderio Funeral Inc., 2 Academy Road, Marion Terrace, Hanover Township. There will be no calling hours. Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass Thursday at the church. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Community Care, Kingston.

Mary A. Karboski, formerly of Edwardsville, died Tuesday at Balanced Care Kingston.

Born in Johnstown, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna Yurko. She worked for the Keystone Garment Co., Edwardsville. She was a member of the Resurrection of the Lord Polish National Catholic Church, Edwardsville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; sister, Helen; and brother, John.

Surviving are her sons, Stanley, Kingston; and Fred, Las Vegas; two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and sister, Ann Shedlarski, Buffalo, N.Y.

The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday from the Kopicki Funeral Home, 263 Zerbey Ave., Kingston, with Holy Mass of Christian Burial at 12 p.m. at the Resurrection of the Lord Polish National Catholic Church. Baurys, Robert

Robert S. Baurys, of North Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Monday at home.

Born in Nanticoke, he was a son of Marion (Harrison) Baurys Hashagen and the late Joseph Baurys, and stepfather, the late Warren Hashagen. He attended Hanover Township schools and was a 1954 graduate of Hanover High School. He was a fireman for the Wilkes-Barre Fire Department. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, the former Irene Petrin; sons, Robert, Ohio; and Joseph, Swoyersville; one grandson; and brothers, George Baurys, Aristes; Thomas Baurys, San Antonio; and W. James Hashagen, Springville, N.Y.

Private funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday from the Mary A. Harostock Funeral Home, 480 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Dallas. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Heart Association of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Lisowski) Shyner. She was a graduate of Coughlin High School. She worked at the former Boston Store, Wilkes-Barre. She was a member of Holy Cross Polish National Church, Wilkes-Barre, and its choir.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph; son, Louis; daughter, Linda Peck; sisters, Stella Ricko and Josephine Rudko; and brothers, Stanley and Michael Shyner.

Surviving are her son, Adolph, at home; one grandson, one great-grandson; sister, Mary Buchacz, Wilkes-Barre; and brother, Frank Shyner, Florida.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Polish National Church. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre Township. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. A Prayer Service will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, with the Very Rev. Thaddeus Dymkoski officiating.

Florence "Gail" Karazia, 64, of Spruce Street, Wilkes-Barre Township, died Monday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born Sept. 7, 1936, in Laurel Run, she was a daughter of the late Daniel V. and Burneatta (Diaz) Hester. She attended the Wilkes-Barre area schools. She worked for the former Melody Shoe and Central Slipper companies, both of Wilkes-Barre.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John.

Surviving are her son, John "Jake," Wilkes-Barre; daughters, Gail A. Murray, White Haven; and Theresa B. Karazia, at home; three grandchildren; brother, Daniel M., Lebanon, Conn.; sisters, Sharon Tobin and Linda Jones, both of Plains Township; Patricia Wiggins, Gig Harbor, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday from the John V. Morris-Charles J. Leagus Funeral Home, 281 E. Northampton St., Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. Kenneth H. George will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Greenwood Cemetery, Trucksville section of Kingston Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
