Nada L. Krone Hoover
Nada Lenore Krone Hoover, 83, of 2159 S. Eagle Valley Road, Julian, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. She was a Jersey Shore native. She and her husband, Walter Russell Hoover, observed their 61st wedding anniversary March 29. She retired in 1989 as cafeteria manager for Susquehannock School District, Glen Rock and formerly worked as cafeteria manager of the Bald Eagle Area School District. She was a member of the Grange, Red Lion. She was a member of Bald Eagle Valley Community Church, Wingate, formerly Wingate United Methodist Church. Born Jan. 20, 1917, she was a daughter of Emil R. and Louella Meek Krone. Surviving, besides her husband, are two daughters, Sonya E. Ream of Hughesville and Joyce Tedrow of Bellefonte; two sisters, Abida Walker of Fleming and Elizabeth Mummaw of Ormond Beach, Fla.; a brother, William of McKinleyville, Calif.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ben, Eugene and Frederick Krone; and two sisters, Mable and Phyllis Krone. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at church, with the Revs. Thomas M. Osif and David A. Walker officiating. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park, College Township. Friends may call at Wetzler’s, Milesburg, from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Patricia Jayne Johnson
Patricia Jayne Johnson, 59, of Spring, Texas, formerly of this city, died Aug. 3, 2000. She was born April 7, 1941, in this city. Surviving are two daughters, Susan Lynn and Amanda Jo and two sons, Wilfred Frank Jr. and Michael Dean. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Services will be held at 4 p.m. today at Forest Park, The Woodlands, Spring, Texas.

Evelyn Eileen Hinderliter
Evelyn Eileen Hinderliter, 74, of Sewickley, formerly of the Canton area, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, at Sweickley Valley Hospital. Arrangements are being handled by Pepper’s, Springbrook Drive, Canton.

Betty Black
BLOSSBURG - Betty Black, 78, of Riverside Apartments, Blossburg, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at Broad Acres, Wellsboro. Arrangements are being handled by Freeberg’s, 120 N. Williamson Road.

Evelyn E. Hinderliter
CANTON - Evelyn Eileen Hinderliter, 74, of Sewickley, formerly of Canton, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000 at the Sewickley Valley Hospital. Her husband, John Hinderliter, died Dec. 30, 1997. She was a 1938 graduate of Canton High School, and a graduate of a business school in Elmira N.Y. She was a legal secretary for Duane Vannoy’s Law office in Troy. She had assisted her husband in the operation of their small farm near Canton, and was an avid gardener. Born June 14, 1926, in East Canton, she was a daughter of Walter and Anna Heinz Wright. Surviving are two sons, Hal of Sewickley and John of Oakmont; a sister, Beatrice Hall of Yuba City Calif.; and a brother, Ernest Wright of Granville Summit. She was preceded in death by a son David and a brother Charles Wright. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Beech Flats Cemetery with the Rev. Jasper Smith officiating. Friends may call at Pepper’s, Springbrook Dr., from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Betty Black
BLOSSBURG - A memorial service will be held today for Betty Black, 78, of 12 Riverside Apts., who died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at Broad Acres in Wellsboro. She was born here on Dec. 16, 1922. She is survived by a son Boyd Brewster of Whitehall, and two nephews. The memorial service will be at 1 p.m. at the home of James Leonard, 227 South Williamson Road, with the Rev. Micheal Bernard officiating. Burial will be in Arbon Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Freeberg’s.

Frances F. Shires
Frances F. Shires, 81, of 2105 Wheatland Ave., died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at home following a lengthy illness. Her husband, William F. Shires, died Dec. 13, 1995. She had retired after 23 years with Sharwell Manufacturing. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and its Monroe Lape Sunday School Class as well as the Hepburn-Lycoming Senior Citizens and Heshbon Senior Citizens. Born Aug. 28, 1918, in Upper Fairfield Township, she was a daughter of William and Julia Hauser Bosch. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Clara Wodrig, Dorothy Swank-Blume and Fannie F. Patterson. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave., with the Rev. Jeffrey Williams, her pastor, officiating and the Rev. Tim M. Brose, a former pastor of her church, assisting. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday. The family will provide the flowers.

James A. Kriner
WELLSBORO - James A. Kriner, 82, of Wellsboro RR 7, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at Broad Acres Nursing Home. His wife, the former Anna Belle Peoples, died in 1998. He was a milk taster and electrician for Borden Inc. for 40 years and was a guide at the former Black Bear Hunting Reserve and VanVliet’s Hunting Reserve for many years. He also was a caretaker for many homes on Lundquist Hill, Delmar Township. He was a Navy veteran, serving U.S.S. San Diego in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was a member of the Dexter Baptist Church. Born April 1, 1918, in Delmar Township, he was a son of Perley and Mildred Henry Kriner. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara K. Stager of Fremont, Ohio and Ruth Henry of East Helena, Mont.; four brothers, Lyle of Morris, Basil of Lapine, Ore. and Charles and Allen, both of Wellsboro; two sisters, Dorothy Blackburn of Glendora, Calif. and Linda Hansen of Juneau, Alaska; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Guiffrida in October 1995; and by two brothers, Donald and Arnold; and two sisters, Arlene Johns and Marion Torpy. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Tussey-Mosher’s, 139 Main St., with the Rev. James Truax officiating. Interment will be in Tioga County Memorial Gardens with military honors. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Robert D. Miller,
Noted Area Builder
JERSEY SHORE - Robert D. Miller, 75, of 551 S. Broad St., died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, in the Jersey Shore Hospital emergency room. He and his wife, the former Gloria E. Dunlap, were married on Aug. 8, 1944. He was the owner of Miller Construction and for 48 years owned Central Lumber and Coal Supply here. He was the builder of the Church of Saint Luke, the Assembly of God Church, the Jersey Shore Post Office, the Woodward Township Elementary School and many buildings on the Penn State campus. He was a member of the Walnut Street Baptist Church and served as a deacon. He was a past president of the Jersey Shore Lion’s Club and served in the Marines during World War II. Born here on July 14, 1925, he was a son of George L. Sr. and Olive Reynolds Miller. Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, R. Clair and Dallas L., and a daughter, Diana L. Welshans, all of Jersey Shore; a brother, George L. Jr. of Sunset Beach, N.C.; a sister, Vinetta I. Sorenson of Chino Valley, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Walnut Street Baptist Church, with the Rev. George Grossman officiating. Burial will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday. Arrangements are being handled by Welker’s, 125 N. Main St.

James R. Smith Jr.
James R. Smith Jr., 51, of 2965 Lycoming Creek Rd, Cogan Station, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at home. He was a self-employed carpenter. He served in the Navy. Born March 3, 1949, in this city, he was a son of James R. Sr. and Mary Sponhouse Smith. Surviving, besides his mother, are two sisters, Maryann Griess of this city and Bonnie L. Eyer of Montoursville. A memorial service will take place at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St., with the Rev. Kenneth R. Elkin officiating. Internment will be in Lewisburg Cemetery.

George P. Telep
MANSFIELD - George P. Telep, 71, of Mansfield RR 2, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at the VA Medical Center in Bath, N.Y. He and his wife, the former Lucille Smith, were married for for 43 years. He retired from Nationwide Insurance as an insurance adjuster. He was a Navy veteran. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church. Born Jan. 25, 1929, in Jermyn, he was a son of Paul and Julia Lapata Telep. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Todd of Wellsboro; two brothers, Paul of Niagara Falls, N.Y. and Daniel of Olyphant; and a sister, Nancy Kastelan in Florida. A daughter, Teal Marie, died in 1983. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Scureman’s, 130 S. Main St., with the Rev. Sandra Linch officiating. Internment will be in Wellsboro Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight. The family will provide the flowers.

Marlin E. Ulrich
Marlin Eugene Ulrich, 75 of Glen Iron, Millmont, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at his home following an eight-month illness. His wife,the former Naomi Justien Lame,, died Aug. 5, 1987. He retired in 1977 after six years at the Kennedy Van Suan Corp. in Danville. He also had been employed by the Milton Steel Company, the Philco-Ford Corp., and Yorktown Kitchens. He attended the Turkey Run and Green Grove Schools in Mifflinburg. He served in the Army’s 12th Airdrome Squadron and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the World War Victory Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon.He was a member of the Benfer-Miller Post 957, American Legion, the Yoder-Zimmerman Post 1964, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Mifflinburg, Moose Lodge 1396, the Union County Sportsman’s Club, and the West End Fire Company. He was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kratzerville. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Born Sept. 2, 1924 in Winfield, he was a son of Charles Willard and Nora Catherine Kline Ulrich. Surviving are a two sons, John M. of Middleburg and Jack M. of Millmont; two daughters, Alverna M. Boyer of Millmont and Sharon D. England of Stuarts Draft Va; a grandson, whom he reared, Harold E.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, Route 304 in Kratzerville, with the Rev. Charles A. Brophy, his pastor, officiating. Interment with full military graveside rites will be held at the Hilltop Cemetery, Mifflinburg. Friends may call at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at Schwartz’s, 247 Chestnut Street, Mifflinburg, and at the church prior to the service on Wednesday.

Luann Youmans
BLOSSBURG - Luann Youmans, 42, of South Williamson Road, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at her home. She was a 1975 graduate of Canton High School. She was a bartender at the Blossburg American Legion, and also briefly drove a school bus for the Southern Tioga School District. She was a member of the Blossburg American Legion Auxillary Post 572, the Blossburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxillary Post 8730, and the Hillside Rod and Gun Club. She served on the Blossburg Coal Festival committee as treasurer. She enjoyed motorcylcing. Born Dec. 17, 1957, in Troy, she was a daughter of Edward and Janice Dibble Lodge. Surviving are a son, Derek of Blossburg; a daughter Melissa of Blossburg; a brother, Rusty Lodge; a sister Mariann Kehres of Liberty; and a grandson, Tyler Evans. The funeral will be at noon Monday at Zwicharowski’s, 314 Granger St., with the Rev.Allen Hulslander officiating. Interment will be in the Grover Cemetery, Canton Township. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home.

Charles W. Breon Sr.
JERSEY SHORE - Charles W. Breon Sr., 83, of 221 Ramsey Drive died there Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000. He and his wife, the former Bertha Mae Fye, would have observed their 53rd wedding anniversary Sept. 2. They retired as owners of Petticoat Junction Camping Park. He also was employed by Weis Markets for 17 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served with the 29th Infantry Division. He graduated from Lock Haven High School. Born July 18, 1917, in Centre Hall, he was a son of Clayburn and Laura Mitterling Breon. Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Donald W. Sr. and Charles W. Jr., both of Jersey Shore; a brother, Harold C. of Lock Haven; two sisters, Ethel Schall of Jersey Shore and Evelyn Herr of Avis; and two grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Welker’s, 125 N. Main St., with the Rev. Tamara Smith officiating. Internment will be in Tombs Run Cemetery. There will be no public visitation.

Patricia Seeley Crandell
CANTON - Patricia Seeley Crandell, 63, of Canton died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Her husband of 43 years, James “Smokey” Crandell, died Aug. 6, 1999. She was employed by the telephone company here, American Silk & Label in Troy and most recently as a check-out clerk for the Troy Super Duper. Born Nov. 11, 1936, in Leroy Township, she was a daughter of Dean Seeley and the former Alma Stone. Surviving, besides her parents, are a daughter, Brenda J. Johnson of Towanda; two sons, Robert of Canton and Scott if Mifflinburg; six grandchildren, Kalee and Brodie James Johnson, Bo Tyler and Georgie, Amy, and Emily Crandell. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Keith Seeley. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Pepper’s, Spring Brook Drive, with the Rev. Tom Blackall officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Troy. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday.

Zackary Ryan Derr, 16-months of 109 Pleasant Valley Road, Cogan Station, was pronounced dead Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, in the Williamsport Hospital emergency room. Born March 13, 1999, in this city, he was a son of William Barnes Jr. and Jacqueline Brungard. Surviving, besides his father of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and his mother, with whom he lived, are a brother, Eric Derr, at home; a sister, Kali Barnes of Jersey Shore; a stepfather, R. Scott Derr of 2018 Lincoln St.; maternal grandparents, Elaine and John Felix of this city and John and Dorcas Ohnmeiss of Harrisburg; paternal grandparents, Joyce and Victor Derr of this city, Sharon Barnes of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and William Barnes Sr. of Avis; great-grandmothers Elsie M. Fink of Cogan Station and Annetta Paulhamus and Louise Moday, both of this city. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Stoltz Cemetery, Hepburn Township, with the Msgr. Stephen D. McGough, pastor of St. Boniface Catholic Church, officiating. Friends may call at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Anna Jean Parks
Anna Jean Parks, 76, of 2921 Robbins Road, Montoursville, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at the Williamsport Hospital. Her husband, Herbert W. Parks, died in 1982. She was a homemaker. She attended Williamsport schools. Born April 28, 1924, in this city, she was a daughter of Oris and Julia Feeney McCloskey. Surviving are two sons, Herbert Parks Jr. of Muncy and John Parks II of Montoursville; three daughters, Margaret J. Stepp of Williamsport, Judy Powers of Montgomery and Jean Parke of Montoursville; two brothers, Karl McCloskey of Muncy and Paul McCloskey in Texas; three sisters, Kathryn Harer of Montoursville, Eleanor Waldman of this city and June Morehart in Texas. She was predeceased by two brothers, Oris and Joe McCloskey. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, 380 E. Fourth St., with the Rev. Allen H. Goss officiating. Internment will be in Montoursville Cemetery. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St.
