Raymond C. Hughes, 84, of Linden, formerly of Jesery Shore, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at Manor Care Nursing Services, Jersey Shore. He and his wife, the former Hazel A. Williamson Fink, observed their 11th wedding anniversary July 22. He attended Church of God, Jersey Shore. Born March 14, 1916, in Jersey Shore, he was a son of Harry G. and Sarah Brooks Hughes. Surviving, besides his wife, are seven sons, Fred C. of Enosburg Falls, Vt., LeRoy A. of Muncy, Raymond L. of Bufford, Ga., William K. of Lock Haven, Michael E. of this city, Herbert G. of Jersey Shore, and Daniel L. of Avis; three daughters, Marian E. Boyden of Constantia, N.Y., Norma J. Coleman of Avis, Rebecca L. Cunningham of Jersey Shore; three stepsons, Dennis E. Fink of Duleth, Minn., Gary L. Fink in New York, and Arthur A. Fink of Linden; three stepdaughters, Judy A. Green, Bonnie L. VanAllen and Connie S. Mills, all of this city; two sisters, Mabel Boatman of Jersey Shore and Edna Mathias of Milton; 36 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jersey Shore Cemetery, with a memorial service at 11:30 at Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Jersey Shore, with the Rev. Edgar L. Manns officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Sanders’, 821 Diamond St.

Dr. Paul B. Reis
Dr. Paul B. Reis, 96, formerly of Grampian Boulevard, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at Manor Care North. Arrangements are being handled by Crouse's, 133 E. Third St.

Carl S. Woodside Jr.
Carl S. “Butch” Woodside Jr., 45, of 11406 Route 118 Highway, Unityville, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at home. He was a tractor trailer driver for McCormick’s and Drum Trucking company’s and diesel mechanic at Petro Truck Stop, Limestoneville and H.T. Cole Co., Hazelton. Served in the Army in the Vietnam War. He enjoyed motorcycles and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Born April 12, 1955, in Muncy, he was a son of Carl S. and Edith J. Farrar Woodside Sr. Surviving are his parents of Unityville; a son Carl Anthony; a brother, Michael of Unityville; and a nephew, Brett. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. William L. McNeal, Salem United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Unityville. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. The family will provide the flowers.

Malcolm M. Dailey Jr.
Malcolm M. “Pat” Dailey Jr., 2020 Hays Lane, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital. Arrangements are being handled by Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave.

Ann M. Shearer
RENOVO - Ann M. Shearer, 66, of Renovo, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia. Her husband, Elwood Shearerm, died in June 1996. She was a housekeeper for Maxwell Funeral Home and previously worked at Dremmels Bindery, the state Game Commission and Renovo Records Office. She was a graduate of the former St. Joseph’s High School. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Born here Jan. 19, 1934, she was a daughter of John and Mary Louise Deeghan Mackey. Surviving are two sons, John and Marty, both of Renovo; a brother, John “Pete” Mackey Jr. of Renovo; two sisters, Colleen Grotzinger of Greensburg and Kathleen Mackey of Montgomery; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou Johnson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the church in Renovo, with the Rev. Donald Boslett, celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hyner. Friends may call at Maxwell’s, 205 Fifth St., from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Friday.

Paul G. Burgard
Paul G. “Mick” Burgard, 84, of 2052 Rabbittown Road, Pennsdale, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at Sycamore Manor. He retired in 1980 from Schnadig, Montoursville, after 35 years. He enjoyed bowling. A graduate of Montoursville High School he was a football player. Born June 16, 1916, in Ralston, he was a son of John and Emma Burgard. Surviving are his wife, the former Thelma I. Lawton; two sons, Gary of Hughesville and Phillip in Michigan; two daughters, Pauline Gwyn in Texas and Paige O’Carroll in Ireland; three sisters, Margaret Hobbs of Muncy, Mildred Lahl in New Jersey and Clara Hinkle of Philadelphia; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Benjamin and Myron. Services will be at the convenience of the family. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville.

Robert A. Warner
WELLSBORO - Robert A. Warner, 76, of Park Hill Manor, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at home. He retired in 1982 from Local 542 Engineers International Union of Operating Engineers after more than 30 years as a heavy equipment operator. He was a life member of National Rifle Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3376, Ephrata and a member of Ossea Lodge 317 F&AM, Wellsboro. A World War II Navy Veteran he was a crew chief for bombers. Born June 23, 1924, in Blakeslee, he was a son of Robert A. and Martha Blakeslee Warner Sr. Surviving are two daughters, Ellen Sweitzer and Nancy Singerling, both of Ephrata; three sons, Robert A. III and Michael, both of Ephrata and Ronald of Denver; seven brothers, Richard of San Diego, Calif., Jay and Walter, both of Effort, James of Stroudsburg; Albert in Florida, Harold and William, both of Pocono Lake; a sister, Helen Shaeffer of Pocono Lake; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Tussey-Mosher’s, 139 Main St.

Lillian G. Hottenstein Ayers
Lillian G. Hottenstein Ayers, 81 of New Albany RR 2, died Wednesday Sept. 13, 2000, after a brief illness. She retired in 1984 from Herman Rynveld’s Son, Inc., a wreath factory in New Albany, and previously was a waitress in Eagles Mere and Monroeton and worked at the Blue Swan Sewing Factory, Sayre. A member of Millview Wesleyan Church, she was a member of Millview Quilters. Born Oct. 30, 1918, in Echo, she was a daughter of Frank and Zora Schrecengost Hottenstein. Surviving are a daughter, Carol Benjamin, and a son, Edward Ayers, both of New Albany RR 2; two sisters, Alice Lynn of Lynnfield, Mass., Frances Fetherbay, and a brother, Stanley Hottenstein, both of New Albany RR 2; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Josephine Haverly, Minerva McMahon and Esther Rinker and a brother, Arthur Hottenstein. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in the church, Forksville, with the Rev. Matthew Pickering, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Warburton Hill Cemetery, Overton. Friends may call in the church from 2 to 3 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by McHenry’s, 119 Carpenter St., Dushore.

Raymond A. Boccardi Sr.
Raymond A. Boccardi Sr., 62, of Rutherford, N.J., father of a Montoursville woman, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was employed by Paine Webber Inc., Weehawkin, N.J., as a corporate information security analyst for more than 38 years and served in the New York Army National Guard. He enjoyed bowling. Surviving are a daughter, Lani O’Shaughnessy of Montoursville; a son, Raymond A. Jr. of Zion Grove; and three grandchildren. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Saturday at Allen’s, 745 Market St., Bloomsburg, with the Rev. Albert Secski, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Paul J. Chilson
CANTON - Paul J. Chilson, 54, of Canton died Wednesday, September 13, 2000, at home. He was employed by Sullivan Roofing Co., Athens. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Born October 18, 1945, in Sayre, he was a son of Max B. and Daisy Stevenson Chilson. Surviving are two sisters, Susan Woodruff in Texas and Margaret Sick of Elmira, N.Y.; and six brothers, Thomas of Wyalusing, Clifford, Albert, Max C., Franklin and Wilmer, all of Towanda. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the French Azilum Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Pepper’s, Springbrook Drive.

Malcolm M. Dailey Jr.
Malcolm M. “Pat” Dailey Jr., 85, of 2020 Hayes Lane died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000 in Willliamsport Hospital following a brief illness. His wife, the former Kathryn L. Hagenberger, died Feb. 3, 1999. He retired in 1982 from Avco, city. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Post 7863, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Duboistown; Lycoming Creek Anglers Club, and Local 787, United Auto Workers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. Born Aug. 26, 1915 in DuBois, he was a son of Malcolm M. and Nellie Dolby Dailey. Surviving are a son, Patrick L. of this city; four daughters, Nancy Arbegast of Elmira Heights, N.Y., Jean Anderson of Medina, Ohio, Carol Engler of West Suffield, Conn., and Debra Fenstermaker of this city; a stepmother, Dorothy Dailey of Elmira, N.Y.; three stepsisters, Penny Noll, Linda Coleman and Judy Andrews, all of Elmira; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-granchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, William, and five sisters, Mildred Allen, Helen Kelley, Lori Miller, Betty Monoski, and Annabelle Deitrick. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave. Interment will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Paul W. Dieffenbacher
Paul W. Dieffenbacher, 90, of Hershey, a former city resident, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at Integrated Health Services of Hershey at Woodlands, Derry Township. He retired as a personnel analyst from the New Cumberland Army Depot and from the general services department of the state (do any of that get capped?) and formerly worked for the Williamsport Grit. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He was chaplain of Keystone Chapter of China-Burma-India Basha. Born July 17, 1910, he was a son of Thomas and Ella Schultz Dieffenbacher. Surviving are three sons, Thomas F. of this city, Lee W. of Middletown and Ross P. of Coral Springs, Fla. a daughter, Sue Van Drew of Chambersburg; a sister, Claire Donley of this city; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at the convenience of the family. Burial with full military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Arrangements were handled by Trefz & Bowser’s, 114 West Main St., Hummelstown.

Donald E. Hessert Sr.
Donald E. Hessert Sr., 68, of 934 Nicely Ave., Montoursville, died Thursday, Sept 14, 2000, at home after an extended illness. He and his wife, the former Saundra Jones, observed their 17th wedding anniversary May 14. He worked part time at Big N. and Wal-Mart until 1999 and previously as a typesetter for the Sun-Gazette Co., from 1953 to 1994, and for Herr’s Dairy. A life member of Loyalsock Volunteer Fire Department, he was a member of one of the first graduating classes of the Lycoming County emergency medical technician program and served as ambulance chairman for many years. He was a member of the Typographical Union. He was a graduate of South Williamsport High School. He was a life member of Messiah Lutheran Church, South Williamsport; the church council and an usher and choir member. Born Feb. 13, 1932, in this city, he was a son of Henry William and Esther R. Nichols Hessert. Surviving, besides his wife, are three sons, Mark S. of Greenville, N.C., Donald E. II of this city and Jeffrey Harman of South Williamsport; a daughter, Tanya Beck of South Williamsport; a brother, Samuel W. of this city; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Phillip; a daughter, Deborah H. Bower; and a brother, Phillip Henry. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the church, Howard and West Southern Avenue, South Williamsport, with the Rev. Robert L. Driesen, officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call in the church from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Sanders’, 821 Diamond St.

Ellen S. Ivins
Ellen S. Ivins, 90, formerly of the 700 block of Diamond Street, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, in Roseview Center. Her husband, John G. Ivins, died March 6, 1997. She was a graduate of Clearfield High School. She was a member of Lycoming Presbyterian Church and an avid crocheter Born Aug. 21, 1910, in Beech Creek, she was a daughter of Roy and Carrie Bachman Stone Surviving are a daughter, Shirley M. Thomas of this city; five grandchildren; two step grandsons; four great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., with the Rev. Richard W. Miller, officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. The family will provide the flowers.

Rupert G. Haley
Rupert G. Haley, 87, formerly of Glendale, Calif., died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, in Sycamore Manor, Montoursville, where he had been a resident for two years. Arrangements are being handled by Sanders, 821 Diamond St.

Fillmore H. Reimensnyder
Fillmore H. Reimensnyder, 75, of Milton RR 2 died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at home. He and his wife, the former Lois A. Cotner, observed their 54th wedding anniversary April 13. He was a farmer in Turbot Township and a rural mail carrier for Milton RR 1 for 21 years. He attended Milton High School. A member of the Rambler’s Club, he enjoyed traveling and gardening. Born March 24, 1925, in Turbot Township, Northumberland County, he was a son of John W. and Jennie M. Hartman Reimensnyder. Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, John F. of Watsontown RR 2 and James A. of Milton RR 1; six grandchildren, Kimberly Aikey, Kelley Lininger, Debra David Robert and Susan; and four great-grandchildren. A private graveside service will be at the convenience of the family in Turbotville Cemetery, with the Rev. P. Philip Zimmerman, Follmer Lutheran Parish, Milton RR 2, officiating. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Brooks’, 207 Broadway St. Turbotville.

Dr. Paul B. Reis
Dr. Paul B. Reis, 96, formerly of Grampian Boulevard, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, at Manor Care North. He and his wife, the former Kathryn C. Smith, observed their 68th wedding anniversary Dec. 13. Retiring in 1986 after 55 years as a physician specializing in thoracic and general surgery, he served on the staff of Williamsport and Divine Providence hospitals and was a member of the Williamsport Hospital board. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a diplomate of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association, Pennsylvania Medical Society and the Lycoming County Medical Society. He was a past president of Arab El-Kebir Horse Club, and a member of the Pennsylvania Arabian Horse Association, the Pennsylvania Equine Council and the International Arabian Horse Association. He was a member of Mater Dodorosa atholic Church. Born April 27, 1904, in Reading, he was a son of William and Emma Driebelbis Reis. Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, P. Michael of Phoenix, Ariz. and Alexander J. of Muncy; three daughters, JoAnn Hester of Montoursville, Patricia Chaffey of Las Vegas, Nev. and Judith of this city; a brother, Frank of Medford, Ore.; two sisters, Edna Rhoads of Mt. Penn and Eleanor Carver of Boyertown; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Hannah Dresher. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church 635 Hepburn St., with Msgr. Francis Castellano, as celebrant. Friends may call at Crouse’s, 133 E. Third St., from 7 to 9 tonight, with a recitation of the rosary at 7:30.
