COVINGTON - Elsie Ramsey Boynton, 91, of Covington, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro. She was a member of the First Church of God, Chambersburg. Born Nov. 13, 1909, in Phenix, Va., she was a daughter of John and Mattie Childress Ramsey. Surviving are a daughter, Carol Chamberlain of Covington; a granddaughter, Dawn Roldan, one grandson, Darryl Harvey; two great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandsons. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Geisel’s, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, with the Rev. K. Hull Byers officiating. Burial will be in the Midway Baptist Church Cemetery, Phenix, Va. Friends may call the funeral home from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Local arrangements are being handled by Scureman’s, 130 S. Main St., Mansfield.

Marjorie Mary Crawford
WELLSBORO - Marjorie Mary Halt Crawford, 75, of Wellsboro died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000,at Broad Acres Nursing Home. She was the widow of James J. Crawford. She had taught second and fourth grades in the Wellsboro Area School District. She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church, where she was a CCD teacher, lector and member of St. Peters Social Concern. Surviving are four sons, James of Havertown, Richard of Swarthmore, Paul of Collegeville, and David of Virginia Beach, Va.; three daughters, Susan Munger of Tampa, Fla., Midge Bialas of Wellsboro, and Marianne Stanley of of Bowe, Md.; three brothers, Frank Halt and Joseph Halt, both of Cinnaminson, N.J., and Gerald Halt of Newtown Square; three sisters, Mary Cassidy of Villas, N.J., Rosalie Sminkey of Springfield and Madeline Matakonis of Cinnaminson; 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters and a granddaughter. A memorial mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Michael J. Sullivan officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Carleton’s.

Deborah Ann D’Angelo
MANSFIELD – Deborah Ann Walsh D’Angelo, 41, of Barnes Drive, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at home. She and her husband, Thomas, observed their 11th wedding anniversary Aug. 2. She was a 1977 graduate of Mansfield High School. She was a member of the Holy Child Catholic Church and a past member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Mansfield Business and Professional Women. She was a leader of Girl Scout Troop 579 and volunteered at Warren L. Miller Elementary School. She participated in fundraising for the Ronald McDonald House at Syracuse, N.Y. She was general manager of McDonalds here from 1979 to 1999. Born Oct. 12, 1959, in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of Eugene F. and Irene Kolmegies Walsh. Surviving, besides her husband and parents, are a daughter, Brittany Lynn D’Angelo, at home; two brothers, Edward E. of Reading and Robert M. of Towanda; one sister, Jennifer T. Aument of Selinsgrove; and two stepchildren, Thomas J. and Nicole of Mansfield. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Child, 242 S. Main St., with the Rev. Louis Kaminski officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call at Scureman’s, 130 S. Main St., from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Gerald J. McEneny
BLOSSBURG - Gerald J. McEneny, 74, of Middletown, N.J., the father of a Blossburg resident, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2000, at home. He was the widower of Catherine McEneny. He retired after 25 years as a teacher in the Middletown, N.J., school system, where he coached football and track. He was a 1949 graduate of Mansfield State College. He was an Army veteran. Born Oct. 4, 1926, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of Michael and Amelia Schappert McEneny. Surviving are two daughters, Kathy House of Blossburg and Molly McEneny of New York, N.Y.; a brother, Michael, and a sister, Liz Connors, both of Ashley; and four grandchildren. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Day’s 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank, N.J. The burial will be private. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m.

Alice Eschenbach Myers
RENOVO - Alice Eschenbach Myers, 92, of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of here, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, in Port Charlotte. Her first husband, Robert Eschenbach, died in 1967. Her second husband, Curvin Myers, died in 1985. She was employed 18 years at Bates Troy Laundry, Binghamton, NY. Born Sept. 10, 1908, in Beech Creek, she was a daughter of Clyde and Tillie Crosley Wilsoncroft. Surviving are three sons, Kenneth of Renovo, and Frank and Jake of Port Charlotte; three daughters, Betty Romonyak of Buffalo, N.Y., Kathryn Durandetto and Della Vanloan, both of Port Charlotte; four sisters, Maude Mills and Thelma Bruno, both of South Renovo, and Irma Casper and Ethel Young, both of Renovo; 40 grandchildren; and many great- and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Eschenbach; two sons, Donnie and Bobbie; and three sisters, Vada Bates, Lilly Javon and Marion Perry. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Maxwell’s, 205 Fifth St., with the Rev. John Godissart and Pastor Ann Runnels officiating. Interment will be in North Bend Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 1 p.m. Monday.

John J. Rechel
Former Hughesville Police Chief
John J. Rechel, 54, of 601 Clarkstown Road, Muncy, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at his home. He was Hughesville police chief from 1976 to 1993. He was a 1965 Williamsport Area High School graduate. A Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War, he received the Vietnam Service Award, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, the VietNam Campaign Medal with silver star, the National Defense Service Medal and the Purple Heart. He was a member of American Legion Post 35 and Vietnam Veterans Post 51, Hughesville. He had served as president and vice president of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 79. He was involved in Boy Scouts. Born May 23, 1946, in Dunmore, he was a son of John L. and Agnes Hamm Rechel. Surviving, besides his mother, are his wife of 30 years, the former Carol A. Grantier, and two sons, John of Boyertown and Joseph at home. A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 326 Washington Blvd., with the Rev. Paul Inez, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Arlington National Cemetery. Friends may call at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St. Hughesville, from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Leon Kenneth Watts
UNITYVILLE - Leon Kenneth Watts, 92, of 1741 Route 42 Highway, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at home. Arrangements are being handled by McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville.

Marvin R. Wilson
Marvin R. Wilson, formerly of Ulysses and Coudersport, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital. His wife, the former Addie M. Chase, died in 1985. Retiring as a corporal in 1963, he was a State Trooper for 25 years. He was a member of Ulysses First Baptist Church. He was a former member of Eulalia Lodge 342 F&AM, Coudersport. He was a member of the Coudersport Consistory and related masonic organizations. Born Oct. 30, 1913, in Eldred, he was a son of Charles O. and Rachael D. Rice Wilson. Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth Ann McCloud of Laurel, Md., and Rachael McCloskey of Montoursville; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Olney’s, 621 S. Main St., Ulysses, with the Rev. William M. Grover officiating. Interment will be in Ulysses Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Newton E. Robb
AVIS - Newton E. Robb, 86, of this borough died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Manor Care, Jersey Shore. He and his wife, the former Dorothy R. McKague, would have observed their 65th wedding anniversary Dec. 25. He was bank director at The State Bank of Avis for more than 25 years. He and his wife owned and operated Robb’s Store from 1935 to 1979. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he taught Sunday school, was a council member and Sunday school superintendent. He was a member of LaBelle Lodge 232 F&AM, the Williamsport Consistory and Jaffa Temple. Born Feb. 7, 1914, in Avis, he was a son of Edward B. and Ida C. Bickel Robb. Surviving, besides his wife, are a daughter, Carol Rhoads of Avis; two grandchildren, Lisa L. and Greg A. Rhoads; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry N. Robb, and two sisters, Sarabelle Cross and Ivalou Weakland. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Highland and Reed streets, with the Rev. Steven Brauner and the Rev. George Doran officiating. Interment will be in Jersey Shore Cemetery. Friends may call at Welker’s, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. A Masonic service will be at 8:30 p.m.

TROUT RUN - Beulah F. Roupp, 87, of 19 Cowhide Lane, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, at home. Her husband, Donald L., died in 1960. She lived in White Pine for the last 20 years. Prior to that, she lived in Jersey Shore, Salladasburg and Antes Fort. She was retired from the Jersey Shore Hospital kitchen staff. Born Dec. 8, 1912, in Salladasburg, she was a daughter of Anson and Alma Williamson Paulhamus. Surviving are four sons, Donald A. of Beaver Dams, Carl P. of Cogan Station, David B. of Lock Haven, Steven H. of Jersey Shore; four daughters, Dorothy M. Confer of Montgomery, Jean I. Willits of Antes Fort, Eileen W. Brown of White Pine, Betty J. Brown of Punxsutawney; 38 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Bruce Paulhamus of Boone, Iowa; and a sister, Jean O’Dell of Hillsboro, Oregon. She was preceded in death by a son, Torrence V. Roupp, in 1999.

Kathryn S. Balliet
MUNCY - Kathryn S. Balliet, 92, a resident of Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit for five years, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000. Her husband of 57 years, Domer F., died June 24, 1985. She was a member of Muncy Baptist Church. Born July 20, 1908, in Milton, she was a daughter of J. Harry and Eva Guffy Tate. Surviving are two sons, John H. of Mary Esther, Fla., and Ralph D. of Muncy; two daughters, Phyllis B. Odell of Hughesville and Kay A. Wertz of Muncy; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons, Robert, Donald and James Balliet, three sisters and three grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at the church, West Penn and South Market streets, with the Rev. D. Gene Patterson officiating. Interment will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery. Friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Wallis-Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St.

Robert G. Hartman
Robert G. Hartman, 91, of Wayne, a city native, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. He and his wife, the former Reba B. Decker, observed their 64th wedding anniversary June 13. He retired in 1972 as a teacher with the Lower Marion School District. He was a member of St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, Devon. He was a 1928 graduate of Dickinson Seminary and a 1932 graduate of Susquehanna University. Born June 13, 1909, he was a son of Isidore H. and Rebecca Ann Creighton Hartman. Surviving, besides his wife, are two daughters, Judith H. Murphy of Chester Springs and Susan H. McDonnell of Devon. A private service will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Noll’s, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport.

Lewis Norman Riggle
WATERVILLE - Lewis Norman Riggle, 84, of 10923 N. Route 44 Highway, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, in Williamsport Hospital. Riggle worked for many years in the logging industry, as a mechanic for the former Yohe Motors and Don Blythe Dodge of Jersey Shore and as a school bus driver. He also was employed by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression. A charter member of the Waterville Fire Co., Riggle was its first assistant chief. His wife of 44 years, the former T. Frances Reitz, died March 21, 1986. Born Aug. 25, 1916, in Salladasburg, he was a son of Elmer and Sarah Martin Riggle. Surviving are his daughter, Judith L. VanFossen of Richmond, Va.; two brothers, Leroy and Edwin Riggle of Jersey Shore; a sister Dorothy Klup of Jersey Shore; two granddaughters, Kathy Morrow and Carol Ramsey; two great-granddaughters. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Waterville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tamara Smith, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Waterville Cemetery. Friends may call at Welker’s, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Gertrude E. Ulmer
Gertrude E. Ulmer, 94, formerly of the 100 block of Kenyon Avenue, Cogan Station, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Williamsport Home. Her husband, Ezra R., died Oct. 17, 1965. She was employed at the former Weldon’s Pajama Co. She was a member of Fairlawn Community Church. Born Dec. 7, 1905, in Loyalsock Township, she was a daughter of Charles E. and Stella Blemley Park. Surviving are three foster grandchildren, Martin Lucas, Sherry Lucas and Kevin Lucas. She was preceded in death by a foster daughter, Gloria Lucas, in December 1996. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., with the Rev. John W. Brokopp officiating. Interment will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Marie A. Glaes
Marie A. Glaes, 90, of 674 Stahl Ave. died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital. Her husband, F. Alan Glaes, died Aug. 26, 1948.
She was retired from Dolly Madison Ice Cream Co. She was a member of High Street United Methodist Church. She was a 1927 graduate of Towanda High School.
Born June 12, 1910, in Luther Mills, she was a daughter of James and Mary Walborn Herda. Surviving are one daughter, Juanita Russell of this city; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. A private service will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Kaufman’s, 2102 Northway Road.
