Ruth M. Richards, 89, formerly of Pine St., died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Valley View Nursing Center. Her husband, Leonard C., died Aug. 2, 1980. She was a waitress at the Williamsport Moose Lodge and other restaurants for over 25 years. She was a member of the former St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She was a member and past president of the Senior Citizens Club. She enjoyed gardening. Born Nov. 9, 1911, in Clover Run, she was a daughter of John A. and Mary Jennie Miller Hilliard. Surviving are two sons, Bernard E. of Milton and Lawrence R. of this city; four daughters, Beverly J. Linser of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Lois R. Yoder of Muncy, Joan M. Staccone of Jersey Shore and Linda L. Bomboy of Cogan Station; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers; four sisters; and two sons, Leonard C. Jr. and James W. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St., with the Rev. Theodore L. Cockley officiating. Burial will be in Greenland Memorial Park. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers.

Marguerite A. Morris
Marguerite A. Morris, 89, formerly of Williamsport, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Valley View Nursing Center. Her husband, William J. Morris Sr., died Dec. 23, 1983. Morris was employed at Brodart Co. She was a member of the Church of the Ascension. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Leroy O. Buck Post 7863, DuBoistown. Born Jan. 1, 1911, she was a daughter of John F. and Catherine Davis Swartz. Surviving are one son, William J. Jr. of this city; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Richard L. The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Charles J. Cummings officiating. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville Friends may call Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Crouse’s, 133 E. Third St. The family will provide the flowers.

Gary Eugene Fuller
Gary Eugene Fuller, 34, a resident of 11 Meadowview Court, Lewisburg, formerly of Muncy and Montgomery, who died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, in the Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. He was employed at the J.P.M. Co. in Lewisburg. He enjoyed drawing, hunting and landscaping. Born Feb. 26, 1966 in Muncy Creek Twp., he was a son of Ernest Hartman and Bonnie J. Fuller. Surviving are his mother and step-father, Bonnie and Dennis Swartz; his father, Ernest Hartman of Clearwater, Fla.; four sons, Joshua and Justin Fuller, both of Montgomery, Jeremy Person of Montgomery, and Daren Myers of Watsontown; three brothers, Kevin and Todd Miller, both of Lewisburg, and Rodney Hartman of N.C.; three sisters, Shelly Evans, Lewisburg, and Amy and Amanda Hartman, both of N.C.; grandparents, Clayton and Venita Fuller of Muncy. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Luther and Irene Poust Hartman. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Betzer’s, 108 N. Main St., Muncy, with the Rev. James R. Pentz officiating. Burial will follow in the Muncy Cemetery. Friends may call the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The family will provide the flowers.

Raymond H. Coble
MIDDLETOWN - Raymond H. Coble Sr., 92, of Frey Village Nursing Center, formerly of Adelia St., died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at the center. He retired from Covenco Vending Co., Middletown and was a milk deliverer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline E. Kuhlman Coble. Surviving are two sons, Raymond H. Jr. of Hershey and Robert L. of Middletown; two daughters, Sally A. Radoci of Reisterstown, Md. and Terry L. Wood of Baltimore, Md.; two sisters, Kathryn of Middletown and Jeane Smith of Bernardsville, N.J.; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Matinchek & Daughter’s, Middletown, with the Rev. Kester T. Sobers officiating. Burial will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Camp Hill. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Edward S. Kormanec Sr.
RENOVO - Edward S. Kormanec Sr., 71, of this borough, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Bucktail Medical Center. His wife, the former Leona Tarr, died July 30, 1999. He was a construction worker and a member of the local union. Born April 14, 1929, in Clarence, he was a son of John and Susie Scrub Kormanec. Surviving are three sons, Edward, Gary and Paul, all of Renovo; two daughters, Anna Bosak of Steeltown and Leona Polski of Largo, Fla.; two brothers, John of Bellefonte and Mike of Buffalo, N.Y.; four sisters, Mary Viedoffer of Pine Glen, Sr. Mary Catherine of Painesville, Ohio, and Annie Streightiff and Rose Rogers, both of Beech Creek; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Maxwell’s, 205 Fifth St., with the Rev. John Godissart officiating. Burial will be in North Bend Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Irene E. Garner
Irene E. Garner, 87, of Manor Care South, formerly of Cammal, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital. Her husband, George L., died March 11, 1996. Retiring in 1976, she was employed with the Hamilton Watch Co. of Pottstown for 29 years. She was a member of Pine Creek Methodist Church, Waterville. She was a member of the Cammal Fire Co. Auxillary and a life member of the Waterville Fire Co. Auxillary. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Fire Police. Born Nov. 25, 1913, in Pottstown, she was a daughter of William J. and Annie O. Christman Hunsburger. Surviving are a brother, Lester Hunsberger of Pottstown; a sister, Martha Donahue of Cedar Grove, N.J.; and a god-son, Terry Evans in Virginia. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rearick-Carpenter’s, 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore, with the Rev. Howard Woodruff officiating. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Highland Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum, Pottstown. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday.

Robert L. Bunce
Robert L. Bunce, 71, of 201 N. Loyalsock Ave., Montoursville, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at home. He and his wife, the former Dorothy F. Moodie, observed their 49th wedding anniversary Aug. 11. He retired in 1983 after 23 years of service with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of American Legion Post 104, Montoursville. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Born Nov. 6, 1929, in Williamsport, he was a son of Clyde M. and Callie G. Warner Bunce. Surviving, besides his wife, and his mother, Callie G. Lusk of Montoursville; a son, Vernon Clyde of West Paris, Maine; a daughter, Callie Ann Ray of Tampa, Fla.; four brothers, Clyde L. and Dennis R., both of this city, Gary L. of Montoursville and Larry E. of Winter Garden, Fla.; and six grandchildren. In keeping with the wishes of the deceased, there will be no services. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Knight-Confer’s, 1914, Memorial Ave.

Mary Zimmerman
Mary Louise Williams Zimmerman, 90, of Coopersburg, formerly of South Williamsport and Barbours, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Valley Manor. She operated the former Mary Louise Williams School of Dance. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, South Williamsport. She was a past president of the DuBoistown Garden Club and member of the AARP. Born Jan. 29, 1910, in Ashland, she was a daughter of William E. and Florence Lutcher Williams. Surviving are a niece, Yvonne Crane of Allentown; and several grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur H.; and a sister, Rachel Foulkrod. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Noll’s, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport, with the Rev. Robert L. Driesen, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday. The family will provide the flowers.

Johannes Hofstee
Johannes Gerardus Hofstee, 57, of Spotsylvania, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at home. He worked with the Federal Bureau of Prisons for 29 years in Fort Walton, Fla., Ashland, Ky., this city and Washington, D.C. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Spotsylvania. Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Janice F. of Spotsylvania; two sons, John D of Dumfries and James D. of Spotsylvania; and a daughter, Jennifer J. The funeral will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at the church, 9151 Ely’s Ford Road, Spotsylvania, with the Rev. Philip S. Majka officiating. Friends may call at Found & Sons’, Fredericksburg, from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Paul P. Klapp
WATSONTOWN - Paul P. Klapp, 82, of this borough, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. He and his wife, the former Rose Edna Geiswhite, noted their 53rd wedding anniversary July 3. Retiring in 1980, he was employed for 24 years by American Home Products, Milton. He was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Turbotville. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He received a bronze star, the Philippine Liberation and Japan Occupation medals, and the combat infantry badge. He was a life member of the Clyde F. Mower American Legion Post 323, Watsontown and the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, Muffly-Huff Post 8206, Turbotville. He was a musician. Born April 17, 1918, in White Deer Township, he was a son of Earl W. and Elizabeth Buck Klapp. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, William D. of Milton. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred E. and Marvin A. Sr.; and one sister, Lois M. Miller. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Brooks’, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville, with the Rev. Charla M. Grieves officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, New Columbia, with full military honors. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday. The family will provide the flowers.

Raymond H. Bastian
Raymond H. Bastian, 89, of Evans, Ga., formerly of this city, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at University Hospital. Employed by W.M. Ritter Lumber Co. since 1948, he was the assistant treasurer when W.M. Ritter merged with Georgia-Pacific Corp. in 1960. He retired as administrative assistant to the controller of the Southern Division. He was a member of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, where he was a deacon and elder. He graduated from Williamsport High School and received his bachelor’s from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Augusta Country Club. He was past president of the Augusta Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants. He was a communication officer in World War II. He was born May 29, 1911, near Williamsport. Surviving are his wife, the former Alice Ritter of Evans, Ga.; a daughter, Donna Fullilove of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Len of Connersville, Ind. and Clyde of this city; one sister, Lourane Spaar of Willow Grove; and two grandchildren. The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church with Dr. Jeffrey Newlin officiating. Private burial will be in Westover Memorial Park in Georgia. Friends may call at the church after the service.

William H. Alsted
William H. Alsted, 81, formerly of this city, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2000, in Vancouver, Wash. after a brief illness. Retiring in 1982 from Sprout Waldron & Co., now Andritz Sprout-Bauer, Muncy, he was a sales engineer. He was a graduate of Kenosha Senior High School and attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and he received a Purple Heart. He played semi-professional baseball and football. Born in Truesdell, Wis., he was a son of Edward P. and Jennie C. Alsted. Surviving are two nephews, H. William of this city and Donald E. of Montoursville. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Lorraine Herrmann, and a brother, Harold J. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Vancouver, Wash.

Stella A. Perkins
Stella Arms Perkins, of Eldersburg, Md., died Monday Dec. 11, 2000, in the Carroll Lutheran Health Care Center, Westminster, Md. Arrangements are being handled in Maryland.

William L. Cohick
JERSEY SHORE - William L. Cohick, 84, formerly of Avis, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Manor Care Nursing Center. He and his wife, the former Evelyn Reeder, observed their 62nd wedding anniversary Sept. 18. He was a partner with Cohick Brothers meats in Salladasburg and owned Cohicks Custom Meat Shop in Avis. He was co-owner of Bill and Evie’s Take-A-Peek Restaurant. He was the “Singing Auctioneer” at Bill’s Auction Pavilion. He was a member of the Avis United Methodist Church and its choir. He was a graduate of the former Avis High School. He was a member of the Jersey Shore LaBelle Vallee Masonic Lodge 232 and the Williamsport Consistory. He was a member of the Jaffa Shrine, the Zafar Grotto, and was a retired director of the Jersey Shore State Bank. He was a member of the Elbow Fish and Game Club and the Jersey Shore Elks Lodge. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Born July 26, 1916, in McElhattan, he was a son of the Rev. Leroy and Iva Gertrude Cohick. Surviving, besides his wife, are two daughters, Jolie Marks of Avis and Diane Breon of Huron, Ohio; two brothers, James A. of Mechanicsburg and Harold P. “Bish;” a sister, Mary Ruth Correy of Buffalo, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandson. A daughter, Gwendolyn Goodbrod, died Jan. 22, 1997. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Rearick-Carpenter’s, 1002 Allegheny St., with the Rev. Mark Woodring officiating. Burial will be in Jersey Shore Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The family will provide the flowers.

Helen Y. Carlson
Helen Y. Carlson, 79, of 144 West Hills Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000. Her husband, Alton L. Carlson, died in 1971. She was a graduate of Dickenson Seminary, and Hahnemann School of Medical Technology, Philadelphia. She was a Navy veteran. She was employed by the Chester County Hospital and she retired from the former Leader Nursing Home. She was a member of the Ascension Catholic Church. Born July 31, 1921, in this city, she was a daughter of Samuel A. and Amelia D. Dittmar Youngman. Surviving are a daughter, Laura Winters of this city; two sons, Thomas Strain of New Orleans, La., James Strain of Edwardsville; a brother, Dr. Samuel Youngman of Cambria, Calif.; and three grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St., with her pastor, the Rev. Charles Cummings, officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The family will provide flowers.

William James Winder, 19, of 318 N. Montour St., Montoursville, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, from injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident Monday morning. Born May 8, 1981, in Williamsport, he was a son of James J. and Gail L. Rizzo Winder. He was a member of Church of the Ascension. Surviving are his mother, with whom he lived; his father of Proctor; a brother, James; three sisters, Shannon Knight, Deanna Thorne and Felicia Winder, all of this city; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Rizzo Sr. of this city; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Winder of this city; maternal great-grandmother, Inez Slusser of this city; and maternal step-great-grandmother, Grace Rizzo of this city. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, 2111 Linn St., with the Rev. Charles J. Cummings officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery.
