Bertha K. Bardo, 87, of 2614 Haas Lane, Montoursville, formerly of Muncy RR3, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, in the Williamsport Hospital. She was the widow of Earl M. Bardo who died in 1997. She was a 1931 graduate of Muncy High School. She was a charter member of the Muncy Women’s Club, a member of the Williamsport Women’s Club and a member of the Muncy Women’s Bridge Club. She was a member of the Muncy Baptist Church. Born, Oct. 25, 1913, at Montandon, she was a daughter of Augustus and Blanche Pfleegor Keyser. Surviving are a son, Richard K. of Yuma, Ariz.; a sister, Ruth Taggart of Montoursville; two granddaughters; four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Muncy Baptist church, West Penn and South Market streets, Muncy, with her pastor, the Rev. D. Gene Patterson officiating. Burial will be in the Muncy Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Wallis-Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.

Alice C. Betzer
MUNCY – Alice C. Betzer, 89, of 266 Sunset Lane, formerly of Lewisburg and Milton, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, in Muncy Valley Hospital following a brief illness. She was a retired private duty licensed practical nurse and formerly was employed by the Evangelical Community Hospital and the United Methodist Homes, Lewisburg. Her husband, William H. Sr., died March 3, 1986. She was a 1932 graduate of Milton High School. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Clarkstown. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and her cats. Born Jan. 13, 1911, at Berwick, she was the daughter of Edward and Bertha Reickelderfer Foley. Surviving are a son, William H. of Coal Township, Northumberland County; a daughter, Diane E. Crain, at home; a granddaughter, Sherry Prewitt and a great-granddaughter. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Betzer’s, 108 N. Main St., with pastor Dennis E. Beaver of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg, officiating. Burial will be in Lewisburg Cemetery. Friends may call the funeral home from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Joseph C. Santangelo
MAINESBURG - Joseph C. Santangelo, a village resident, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at home. He and his wife, the former Jane Fotheringham, were married 50 years. He was a retired electrical contractor. He was an Army veteran. He was a member of Holy Child Catholic Church, Mansfield. He was president of the Valley Forge Trail Riders Association for 22 years and was a former 4-H leader. Born Feb. 3, 1929, in Norristown, he was a son of Joseph and Rose Maniscalco Santangelo. Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Robin of Tionesta and Joseph of Wellsboro; a daughter, Susan Olson of Mainesburg; a sister, Rose Salamone of Schwenksville; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon Wednesday in the church, 242 S. Main St., Mansfield, with the Rev. Louis Kaminski officiating. Burial will be in State Road Cemetery here. Friends may call at Wilston’s, 18 N. Main St., Mansfield, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. A prayer service will be at 11.

Donald Bratz
HYNER - Donald Bratz, 78, of Hyner died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at the Bucktail Medical Center. He and his wife the former Margaret Hiney observed their 56th wedding anniversary March 21. He retired as a maintenance supervisor for the Keystone Central School District in 1986. He was a 1941 graduate of Renovo High School. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Born March 21, 1922, in Renovo, he was a son of Norman and Edith Wetmore Bratz. Surviving besides his wife are, a son, Donald E. of Mapleton Depot; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Maxwell’s, 205 Fifth St., Renovo.

Francis J. Cybulski
Francis J. Cybulski, 78, a resident of ManorCare Health Center, died there Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000. He retired from Williamsport Hospital. He was a member of the Church of the Ascension. Born April 29, 1922, in this city, he was a son of Frank and Helen Borowski Cybulski. Surviving are a brother, Leonard of York; two sisters, Rita Nicholas of this city and Eleanor Westphal of English Center. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Sobocinski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, 2101 Linn St., with the Rev. Charles J. Cummings, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers.

Edie V. Fahnestock
HUGHESVILLE - Edie V. Fahnestock, 78, of 1195 Doctor Poust Road, formerly of Clarkstown, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at home. Her husband, Franklin D. Fahnestock, died in 1982. She owned Edie’s Gifts and Gags in Muncy for 27 years. She worked 14 years for Sylvania Corp. in Montoursville and also was formerly employed by Paul’s Department Store and Michaels’ TV and Appliances, Muncy. She was a 1939 graduate of Hughesville High School. She was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II. Born Nov. 14, 1922, at Glen Mawr, she was a daughter of Charles and Martha Newman Houseknecht. Surviving are a daughter, Connie L. O’Donnell of Hughesville, and a granddaughter, Tipson O’Donnell. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Corey O’Donnell, in 1989. The funeral and burial will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Wallis-Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.

Melvin E. Hall Sr.
Melvin E.. “Bud” Hall Sr., 79, of 724 Pennsylvania Ave. died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, in ManorCare Health Center. Born July 26, 1921, in this city, he was a son of Stewart E. and Edith Leigh Hall. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II. He retired from Avco Lycoming, where he was a past president of United Auto Workers Local 787. He was a member of Lodge 106, F&AM, and the Lycoming Creek Lions Club. His wife, the former Nadine Reist, died Dec. 24, 1991. Surviving is a son, Melvin Jr. of Jersey Shore. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Connelly. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday.

Evelyn R. Kocher
Evelyn R. Kocher, 86, of 671 Beeber St., died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, in Williamsport Home. Her husband, Norman E. Kocher, died in 1995. She was a former registrar of vital statistics for the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Born Oct. 14, 1914, in this city, she was a daughter of Harry and Clara Packer Sortman. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Carol Ann Foucart, of this city; two grandsons, Stephen and Jeffrey Foucart; and three great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by a son, Donald Hoover; two sisters, Velma Poole and Esther Smith, and a brother, William Sortman. A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., with the Rev. Larry Halverstadt-Cole, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Bonnie L. Lanning
JERSEY SHORE - Bonnie L. Lanning, 52, of 1012 State Road died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at home. She and her husband, Robert M. Lanning, were married 31 years on June 28. She was a 1967 graduate of Williamsport Area High School. She was a member of Williamsport Assembly of God Church. Born April 17, 1948, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of Leo L. and Emeline P. Mecum Larson. Surviving, besides her husband and her parents of Linden, are a son, Robert M. II, of Jersey Shore; twin daughters, Beth A. Miller of Williamsport and Barbara A. Lanning at home; a brother, Timothy L. Larson of Williamsport; a sister, Florence Imler of Davenport, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Hailey Lanning and Brandon Miller. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, 1230 Sheridan St., with the Rev. Craig A. Schaefer, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave., Williamsport, from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The family will provide the flowers.

Mary E. Richardson
GALETON - Mary Esgrow Richardson, 92, a borough resident, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, in Green Home, Wellsboro. Her husband, William W. Richardson, died in 1976. She was an accountant and bookkeeper for many years. She a member of St. Bibiana Catholic Church here. Born Nov. 29, 1908, here, she was a daughter of Tony and Leah Lollo Esgrow. Surviving are a brother, John Esgorw of Corning, N.Y.; a sister, Florence Markowitz of Huntsville, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the church, with the Rev. Brian E. Vossler. Burial will be West Hill Cemetery here. Friends may call at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by Collins-Olney’s, 14 West St.

Philip F. Rinella
A Mass will be celebrated Thursday for Philip F. Rinella, 88, of 13 Westbury Place, who died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at the Williamsport Hospital. He was the widower of the former Anna D. Mondell, who died Sept. 2, 1978. Rinella owned the former P.F. Rinella Wholesale Fruit and Produce business. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army. A life member of both the Keystone League and the B.P.O. Elks, he was also a member of the Young Men’s Republican Club. Born June 18, 1912 in Renovo, he was the son of Anthony and Pauline Restivo Rinella. Surviving are a son, Anthony J. of Orchard Park, N.Y.; a daughter, Antoinette M. Rinella of Belford, N.J.; a granddaughter, Catherine Rinella; two brothers, Anthony and Joseph, both of Lock Haven; a sister, Antoinette Gedon of Montoursville; and a companion, Kathrine Mauk of this city. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at The Church of St. Ann, 1220 Northway Road, with the Rev. Andrew Kurovsky, church pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery. Friends may call at Crouse’s, 133 E. Third St., from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Evalyn C. Smith
MANSFIELD - Evalyn Charlton Smith, 88, formerly of this borough and Pinellas Park, Fla., died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, in ManorCare Health Center, Williamsport. Her husband, Lee James Smith, died Jan. 3, 1996. She was a former employee of Tioga County Rural Electric Co. and the former First National Bank of Mansfield. She was a member of First United Methodist Church here. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Elizabeth Rebekah Lodge and the DLS Club here. Born Nov. 12, 1912, at Newport News, Va., she was a daughter of Herbert and Evalyn Charlton Warters. Surviving are a son, David C. Smith of Williamsport; a sister, Mary Lois Strunk of Tunkhannock; and four grandchildren Amy E. Consentino, Jennifer E. Bomboy, Jeffrey A. Smith and Matthew D. Smith. She was preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn Charlton. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Scureman’s, 130 S. Main St. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery here.

Ella M. Williams
Ella M. Williams, 77, of 5482 Route 864 Highway, Montoursville, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, in Sycamore Manor Nursing Home. Her husband, Roy A. Williams, died last Feb. 4. She retired in 1980 from the former Weldon’s Manufacturing Co. She was a member of Heilman United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women. Born Dec. 2, 1923, in Lock Haven, she was a daughter of Howard and Elizabeth Bloom Smith. Surviving are a son, Howard J. of Muncy; a daughter, Carol A. Williams of Carlisle; a sister, Twila Shearer of York; and two grandchildren, Roman R. Williams and Stephanie J. Morris. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with Pastor Roman R. Williams, her grandson, officiating.Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The family will provide the flowers.

Frank T. Miller
MILL HALL - Frank T. Miller, 74, of this borough died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in Lock Haven Hospital. He was a laborer with Bloomsburg Mills Inc. and Champion Parts Rebuilders. He was a former member of Castanea Social Club. He was a Navy Seabee veteran of World War II. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed camping. Born March 21, 1926, in Mill Hall, he was a son of Frank and Anna Phillips Miller. Surviving are two sons, Joseph F. and Glenn A., both of Castanea; a daughter, Vickie E. Long of Castanea; two brothers, Charles and Ralph Miller, both of Jersey Shore; two sisters, Mary Murphy of Avis and Linnie Copenhaver of Castanea; two grandchildren, Tracie and Jennifer; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Georgia A. Nestlerode, in 1987 and his second wife, the former Jean Wagner, in 1988; five brothers, Bill, John, Harry, Luke and Bob; and a sister, Esther. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at Helt Hanna Kline’s, 232 Hogan Blvd., with the Rev. Ellen Evans officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Mary M. Bradley
Mary Madeline Bradley, 86, of Farrendsville died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, in Jersey Shore Hospital. Her husband, James E. Bradley, died Aug. 7, 1993. Retiring in 1981, she was employed in the housekeeping department of Lock Haven University. Previously, she worked in the housekeeping department of Jersey Shore Hospital and the Lock Haven Laundry and earlier in life, at the former Sylvania Electric Co. in Mill Hall. She was a member of St. Agnes Church. She was a 1934 graduate of Lock Haven High School. She was a former member of Court Ave Marie 399 of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Born Nov. 30, 1914, in Lock Haven, she was a daughter of John and Eva McCloskey Lachat. Surviving are three daughters, Margaret M. Colley of Linden, Mary Ann Baney of Farrendsville and Kathleen E. West of Palmyra; seven brothers, John and Frank Lachat, both of Avis, Robert, Frederick and James Lachat, all of McElhattan, Joseph Lachat of Lock Haven, and Roy Lachat of Salona; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. A son, John Edward, died in 1969. The funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, 3 E. Walnut St., Lock Haven, with the Rev. Neil R. Dadey officiating. Burial will be in Linnwood Cemetery, McElhattan. Friends may call at Moriarty-Dutcavich’s, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with a vigil at 3:30 p.m.

Thomas W. Wilson
Thomas Warren Wilson, 59, of 32 Sawmill Road, Cogan Station, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in Hershey Medical Center. He and his wife, the former Linda Adams, would have observed their 11th wedding anniversary July 19. He was a member of the Williamsport Lions Club. He was an Army and Air Force veteran. He was born Jan. 1, 1942, in Beaver Falls. Surviving, besides his wife, are his father, Warren in Fla.; a daughter, Lisa Rivera of Cape Coral, Fla.; a stepson, Brent Rudinski of Cogan Station; a stepdaughter, Marni Miller of Harrisburg; a brother, Robert in Florida; a sister, Joanne Oakes of Philadelphia; and three grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St., with the Rev. Larry Halverstadt-Cole, pastor of Calvary United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers.

Merrill L. Showers
Merrill L. Showers, 66, of Milton RR, formerly of Trout Run for several years, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at home. He was publisher of the Flyer, which he operated for 28 years. Earlier in life he played semi-pro football and engaged in heavy-weight boxing. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed trap shooting, computer programming, fishing, hunting, tractor pulling - mini modified division, drag racing, oval track racing and was former Key West Champion. Born Nov. 4, 1934, in White Deer Township, he was a son of Abrahm and Esther Brumgard Showers. He was reared by his aunt and uncle, Helen and Zim Prowant. Surviving are his wife, the former Virginia L. Keiser; his companion, Sue E. Correll; a son, Merrill L. Jr. of New Columbia; a daughter, Sherri D. Showers of New Columbia; a stepson, John F. Hauck III of Milton; two brothers, William of West Milton and Roy E. “Pete” of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Colton and Morgan. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lee, and a sister, Jean Berkheimer. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ranck’s, 125 N. Front St., Milton, with the Rev. Edward Prowant officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, New Columbia. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday.
