Benny L. Bebble
Benny L. “Skip” Bebble, 58, of Martinsburg, W.Va., formerly of Roaring Branch, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at home following a lengthy illness. He had been self-employed. Earlier in life, he was employed by the state Department of Transportation and was a former Justice of the Peace in Roaring Branch. He was a 1960 graduate of Canton High School. He was a Marine Corp veteran of the Vietnam War. Born May 4, 1942, in Elmira, N.Y., he was a son of Benjamin and Luella Leonard Bebble. Surviving are the mother of his children, Madeline Mahosky of Canton; a son, Benjamin “B.J.” of Morris Run; two daughters, Brenda Mead of Roaring Branch and Michelle Sauer of Lancaster; three sisters, Jane May in Florida, Mary Kelly of Roaring Branch and Marjorie Killian of this city; four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Grover Cemetery, Canton. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Pepper’s, Springbrook Drive, Canton.

Madeliene Kiess
Word has been received of the death of Madeliene Kiess, 98, of Dunedin, Fla., formerly of Sonestown, on Nov. 17, 2000, at Mease Continuing Care Center in Dunedin. She was a teacher in Sullivan County and a nurses aide in Kenmore, N.Y., until retiring in 1970. Surviving are a brother, George Kiess of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and a sister, Evelyn Kiess of Dunedin, Fla. Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Sonestown.

Mary Leora Slater
Mary Leora Slater, 45, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in this city. She worked for the State Game Commission. Born March 12, 1955, in Oil City, she was a daughter of Vance G. and Caroline F. Hall Slater. Surviving, besides her mother of Oil City, are three brothers, Donald J. of Seweckly, Thomas M. of Coraopolis and Patrick J. of Reading; a sister, Carolyn Agnew of Conneaut Lake; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were Sunday. Burial was in Grove Hill Cemetery.

Frank D. Fulmer
Frank Daniel Fulmer, 76, formerly of 235 Valley St., DuBoistown, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at Manor Care, Jersey Shore. He and his wife, the former Carole Joy Thompson, observed their 41st wedding anniversary Sept. 19. He retired from the former Williamsport Area Community College in 1978. He was a graduate of Philadelphia Museum School of Art. He was a member of Pine Street United Methodist Church and its choir. He served on the church administrative council, building committee and had taught Sunday school. He volunteered for the American Red Cross, the Alzheimer’s Association and North Central Sight Services. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Born Nov. 26, 1924, in Philadelphia, he was a son of Dr. Joseph C. and Alma Linck Fulmer. Surviving, besides his wife, are two daughters, Susan Bloom and Deborah Suddath, both of South Williamsport; two brothers, David C. of Chatanooga, Tenn., and Joseph C. Jr. of Kunkletown; and three grandchildren, Melissa and Joseph Suddath and Benjamin Bloom. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, Pine and Edwin streets. Burial will be in Hartsfield Cemetery, Liberty. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 10:30 to 11 a.m. Friday. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St.

Donna J. Hendershot
TURBOTVILLE - Donna J. Hendershot, 61, of County Line Road died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. She and her husband, Harold F. Hendershot, observed their 44th wedding anniversary May 12. She was a homemaker. Earlier in life, she was employed at the former Milton Shoe Factory. Born Feb. 2, 1939, in Milton, she was a daughter of Martin and Helen Reeder Golder. Surviving, besides her husband, are three sons, Audie F. of Muncy, Jeffrey A. of Turbotville RR and Ronald L. of Muncy RR; two brothers, Ronald Golder of Turbotville RR and Martin Golder of Milton; three sisters, Connie Beuhler of Milton, Bonnie Hoy of Turbotville RR and Patricia Miller of White Deer; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Harry Golder, and two sisters, Thelma Germini and Gladys Miller. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Brooks’, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville, with the Rev. P. Phillip Zimmerman of Follmer Lutheran Parish officiating. Burial will be in Turbotville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

George W. Smith,
Former Superintendent
The funeral will be Friday for George W. Smith, 78, of 376 Union Ave. died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Williamsport Hospital. He and his wife, the former Sara J. Heck, noted their 50th wedding anniversary June 16. He retired in 1983 as superintendent of the Loyalsock Township School District, having started there in 1959 as a secondary school principal. He also taught in Millersburg Area School District and Fayette Township School District. He served on two statewide commissions sponsored by the Pennsylvania School Boards Association and was a member of Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. He was a former member of the Family and Children Services board, the American Association of School Administrators, and the Williamsport Board of Health. He graduated from Shamokin High School in 1940, Bloomsburg State Teachers College and Bucknell University and did doctorate work at the University of Pennsylvania. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, where he had been a member of the church council and a Sunday school teacher. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Born April 2, 1922, in Shamokin, he was a son of Clarence E. and Lillie M. Oliver Smith. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Eric C. of South Williamsport; a daughter, Georgia L. Lynn of this city; a sister, Jeanne M. Fargus of this city; and four grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. at Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St., with the Rev. Kenneth R. Elkin officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. The family will provide the flowers.

Daniel C. Wolfe
Daniel C. Wolfe, 74, of 923 Second Ave. died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia. He was a fifth-generation descendant of Michael Ross, founder of this city. He and his wife, the former Helen June Marley, observed their 50th wedding anniversary April 15. He retired from John Powell Chevrolet after 26 years and worked for the former Moltz Chevrolet for 11 years. He was a member of Church of the Annunciation. He was a graduate of the former Dickinson Seminary Prep School and attended Lycoming College. He was a member of the Lycoming County Historical Society and a third-degree member of Council 366, Knights of Columbus. He was a member of Roland Ritter Post 268 American Legion, Muncy, the Young Men’s Republican Club and the Young Men’s Democratic Club. He was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II. Born Sept. 26, 1926, in this city, he was a son of Charles D. and Caroline Ritter Wolfe. Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Michael C. of South Williamsport and Patrick J. of this city; four daughters, Paula J. of Ardmore, Okla., Danielle L. Mann of Buttonwood, Jennifer A. McCulloch of Montoursville and Melissa C. Mahler of this city; a brother, William W. Faust of Spencer, Iowa; a sister, Margaret S. Thorsteinsson of Rekevic, Iceland; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan M. Wolfe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, 704 W. Fourth St., with the Rev. John Manno officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The rosary will be recited at 8:45 p.m. The family will provide the flowers.

Fred T. Kellogg
Fred T. Kellogg, 91, of East Smithfield died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Heritage Nursing Home, Athens. Retiring in 1972 after 40 years, he was chief engineer for East Smithfield Farms Co. He was a member of East Smithfield Federated Church. He served on the S.R.U. School Board and was involved with the East Smithfield Boy Scouts. Born March 3, 1909, in Big Pond, he was a son of Clarence and Bertha Lantz Kellogg. Surviving are his wife of 74 years, the former Helen McFall; a son, Robert W. of Livonia, N.Y.; a daughter, Rosemary Krisukas of Allentown; a sister, Alta Bennett of Centerville; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by three sons, James, Donald and Dr. Fred D., and a sister, Etta Smogen. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Vickery’s, Troy, with the Rev. Robert Stradling officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, East Smithfield. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 2 p.m. Friday.

Dora Wood Reynard
CANTON - Dora Wood Reynard, 85, of Belcamp, Md., formerly of Canton, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Manor Care in Towson, Md. Her husband, Lee J. Reynard, died Feb. 27, 1977. She owned and operated the former Reynard’s Beauty Shop. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Grover, and attended the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Maryland. She was a 1934 graduate of Canton High School and received her beautician’s license from the Del Ker Der Beauty School in Elmira, N.Y. She was a member of Lady Rebekah Lodge 362 and Canton Senior Citizens. Born Jan. 28, 1915, in Sylvania, she was a daughter of Hiram G. and Evelyn Bixby Wood. Surviving are two daughters, Diana Munger of Tampa, Fla., and Susan Reynard of Belcamp, Md.; two brothers, Hiram “Woody” Wood Jr. and Colonel Wood, both of Canton; five sisters, Eloise Mahood of Dunnellon, Fla., Clara Hoffa of Canton, Marjorie Kenyon and Ona Rae Brasington, both of Troy, and Edgaretta Hungerford of Berkshire, N.Y.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Geraldine Rice and Madolin Wilbur. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Pepper’s, Springbrook Drive, with Pastors Harold Hubble and Will Strunk officiating. Burial will be in East Canton Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday.

Wilbur E. Reese
MONTGOMERY - The funeral was Saturday for Wilbur E. “Willie” Reese, 73, of Whitehall, a borough native, who died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001. He and his wife, the former Jean L. Kotsch, observed their 35th wedding anniversary in 2000. Retiring in 1989, he was a crane operator for Fuller Co., Catasauqua. A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of Fullerton American Legion Post 367. Born May 30, 1927, he was a son of Ellen LaForme Reese. Surviving are two sisters, Reba Firsching of Montgomery and Lenore Klopp of Muncy. He was preceded in death by a brother, Oliver, and two sisters, Lois Zacker and Dorothy Banghart.

J. Wayne Yorks
J. Wayne Yorks, 67, of 430 Main St., Benton, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at Orangeville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He and his wife, the former Virginia L. Bender, observed their 45th wedding anniversary April 30. Since 1995, he was the regional director at the Williamsport office of the state Department of Agriculture. Previously, he was a Columbia County Commissioner, Benton mayor and councilman. He was a representative on the state Fish and Boat Commission for many years, including a stint as commission chairman, and was a former deputy waterways conservation officer. He was a past president of the Fishing Creek Sportsman’s Club and past state president of Trout Unlimited. He was on the board of the American Red Cross, a member of the Columbia County Tourist Promotion Agency, the Columbia County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, the Columbia County Republican Party, American Association of Retired Persons, Benton Borough Park Commission, Oriental Lodge 460, F&AM, Orangeville, and Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436, and a life member of the Benton Fire Co., the Benton fire police and the state fire police association. He was the first president of Geisinger Medical Center’s New Voice Club. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a life member of Fort Ricketts Post 8317, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Benton, and a member of American Legion Post 273, Bloomsburg. He attended Benton High School. Born March 17, 1933, in Divide, Jackson Township, Columbia County, he was a son of Charles and Louise Rice Yorks. Surviving, besides his wife, is a brother. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Kriner’s, Benton, with the Rev. James F. Kremer of Benton United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Waller Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Ted O. Earnest
Ted O. Earnest, 60, of 502 Cemetery St. died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at home following an extended illness. He had been employed by Lucas Trucking of Jersey Shore for more than 25 years. He was a member of Dietrich Lamade Lodge 757 F&AM, Williamsport Consistory and Zafar Grotto, South Williamsport. An Army veteran, he was stationed in Germany and Vietnam. Born Feb. 9, 1940, in Elkland, he was a son of Norman L. and Edith Kohler Earnest. Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Gertrud Jakabowitz; three brothers, Charles of Havelock, N.C., Michael of this city and his twin brother, Ned of Cogan Station; two sisters, Jane McFall of Elkland and Martha Pryor of this city. He was preceded in death by a brother, Norman. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., with the Rev. Theodore L. Cockley, hospice chaplain, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday. A Masonic service will be at 2 p.m. The family will provide the flowers.

H. Charlotte Levy
MONTGOMERY - H. Charlotte Levy, 57, of 1885 Pinchtown Road died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at home. Her husband, Israel J. “Danny” Levy, died in 1988. She was employed by Bucknell University in the food services and had been a clerk and cashier at John’s Market, an office clerk in Brooklyn, N.Y., and a waitress. She was a member of St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church. She was a member of the Bower-Decker American Legion Post 251 Ladies Auxiliary and a volunteer at Muncy Valley Hospital SNU. Born July 3, 1943, in Montgomery, she was a daughter of J. Franklin and Gertrude Leadbitter Bartlett. Surviving are a son, Gerasimos D. “Jerry” Petalas of East Brunswick, N.J.; and a halfsister, Ethelma M. Todd of Folcroft. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Betzer’s, 108 N. Main St., Muncy, with the Rev. Scott W. Baker officiating. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Kathryn B. Simmons
Kathryn B. Simmons, 94, formerly of 400 Lycoming St., died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at Valley View Nursing Center.
She was a supervisor at Williamsport Textile.
She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Born May 5, 1906, in Sonestown, she was a daughter of Charles M. and Ethel Stackhouse Simmons.
Surviving are a brother, Charles of Torrance, Calif.; and two sisters, Helen A. Minatelli of Springfield and Elizabeth Hannan of East Earl.
She was preceded in death by a brother, LaRue.
Private services will be at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are being handled by Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St.
