Willis J. Spencer
CANTON — Willis J. Spencer, 85, a lifelong resident of Union Township, Tioga County, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at home. He and his wife, the former Irene McNett, celebrated their 53rd anniversary last May 4. He worked an unmechanized farm. He attended the Spencertown schoolhouse and Canton High School, from which he graduated in 1933. He was a member of the Grover Church of Christ where he served as a church elder, treasurer and Sunday school teacher, as well as historian. He worked for the state Department of Transportation, Landon’s Orchards and dug graves by hand for local cemeteries. He served for 43 years on the Union Township Election Board, 25 of which he served as Judge of Elections. Born in Spencertown on his parent’s farm, he was a son of Chester and Myrtle McNett Spencer. Surviving besides his wife are a brother, Clark, Gillett; several nieces, cousins and in-laws. He was preceded in death by a niece, Helen Buemi. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Morse and Kleese’s, 40 N. Center St., Canton, with the Rev. Duane Taylor, his pastor, officiating. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the North Union Cemetery.

Thelma R. Strouse
TURBOTVILLE — Thelma R. Strouse, 85, of RR 2 Turbotville, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at Kramm’s Nursing Home, Watsontown, where she lived since April. She was retired from the former Montgomery Mills and had also worked at the former Bull’s Gas Station, during the 50s and 60s. She was a 1933 graduate of Turbotville High School. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Turbotville. Born Sept. 4, 1915, in Lewis Township, Northumberland County, she was a daughter of Howard W. and Susie C. Walter Strouse. Surviving are a son, Jack A. Schuyler, Turbotville; and a sister, Helen Prowant, Watsontown. She was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Walter “Ben” Strouse. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Brooks’, 207 Broadway St., with the Rev. Susan D’heedene, pastor Trinity United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will follow in Turbotville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service.

Guendolee E. Boyer
WATSONTOWN — Guendolee E. Williams Boyer, 87, formerly of Watsontown and Dewart, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Kramm’s Health Care in Milton where she was a resident for the past eight years. She wed the late Stanley H. Williams, her husband of 52 years, on Aug. 20, 1932. She was employed by Philco-Ford in Watsontown. Born March 4, 1913, in Benton, she was a daughter of Brader Samuel and Ollie Temple Mausteller. Surviving are, a daughter, Janet Dempsey, York; two sons, Charles B. and Stanley R. Williams, Fla.; three brothers, Sarl and Harry Mausteller, here, and Harmon Mausteller, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cronrath’s, 308 Main St., with the Rev. Douglas M. Eberly of the Watsontown United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Uniontown Cemetery, Allenwood. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Dorothy M. Brewer Dorothy M. Brewer, 87, of 250 Kauffman Road, Annville, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2000, at her home. Her husband Charles A. Brewer died in 1992. She was a member of First Evangelical Congregational Church, Palmyra. Born Sept. 12, 1913, in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of Lassiter and Minnie Goodwin. Surviving are two sons, David N. and Charles T., both of Williamsport; two daughters, Betty Kleinfelter of Palmyra and Mary Jane Devan of Rochester, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., with the Rev. Jan Fryer, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in the church, West Main and North College streets, Palmyra. Friends may call the funeral home from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Wilson M. Carson
Wilson M. Carson, 83, formerly of Brookside, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, in the Williamsport home. He married the former Alice P. Ross Jan. 7, 1937. He retired from Avco June 2, 1980 after 35 years of service as a tool grinder. He attended the Walnut Street Baptist Church. Born Aug. 23, 1917, in Brookside, he was a son of Judd and Bertha Caldwell Carson. Surviving are a son, Richard, here; a daughter, Joan M. Fay, South Williamsport; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Welker’s, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, with the Rev. George C. Grossman officiating. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Summit Cemetery at White Pine.

Stanley V. Czop
Stanley V. Czop Sr., 64, of Shunk, formerly of Philadelphia, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at the Manor Care Nursing Facility in Williamsport. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Canton Lodge No. 429, the Canton V.F.W. Post No. 714 and the Hillside Rod and Gun Club in Blossburg. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting. Born May 23, 1936, in Philadelphia, he was the son of Laura Kogut and the late Peter Czop. Surviving, besides his wife, Della Donato, and mother, are two sons, Stanley Jr. of Warrington and Peter of Philadelphia; two daughters, Linda Dolan of Richmond, Va. and Patricia Broderick of Philadelphia; four step-children, Kenneth Buck, Connie Boyd, Lori Burgeuss, all of Canton, and Donald Donato of Williamsport; nine grandchildren and 11 step grandchildren.; and a sister, Anne Henofer of Philadelphia. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon today at Pepper’s, Springbrook Drive in Canton. Funeral and committal service will immediately follow at the funeral home with William Graham, deacon of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Canton, officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

James W. Foust
James W. “Teener” Foust, 82, of 293 King St., Turbotville, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001 at his residence. He and his wife Anna Jenkins Goodall Foust celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary June 25, 2000. He was president of Turbotville National Bank where he had also served as teller and cashier. He served as president of Turbotville Borough Council and the Turbotville Municipal Authority. He was a member of the Turbotville Board of Adjustments. He was a 1936 graduate of Danville High School where he was a standout football, basketball and softball player. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 36th Infantry Division and was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic achievement. He was a member of St. James Evangelical Church, Turbotville. He was a member of Turbotville Lions Club, Muffly-Huff Post 8206, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Turbotville, Watsontown Lodge 401, Free & Accepted Masons, and Williamsport Consistory. In 1989 he was awarded Citizen of the Year by the VFW. He also was inducted into the Pennsylvania Association of Community Bankers Hall of Fame and was honored as a 50-year member of the Pennsylvania Bankers Association. He played with the Turbotville Cyclones baseball club of the West Branch League in the late 1930s and 40s, winning the league batting title one year and serving as league treasurer. He was an avid golfer, bowler and Penn State sports fan. Born Aug. 9, 1918 in Danville, he was the son of Walter O. and Anna Jenkins Goodall Foust. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Christopher J. of Watsontown RR; two daughters, Donna D. of Turbotville and Robin L. of Allentown; a brother, Robert G. of Trevorton; a sister, Elizabeth Ann “Lib” Donegan of Danville; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas W. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. James Lutheran Church, Church Street, Turbotville, with the Rev. Charla M. Grieves, his pastor, officiating. Burial with full military honors will be accorded by combined veterans organizations in Turbotville Cemetery. Friends may call Brooks’, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Watsontown Masonic Lodge and Turbotville Lions Club will hold memorial services at 6 and 6:30 p.m., respectively.

Michael Dewey Fuller
A memorial service for Michael Dewey Fuller, who died Dec. 31, 2000, will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Holiday, with the Rev. Daryl Butler officiating. Arrangements were handled by Tussey-Mosher’s, 139 Main St., Wellsboro.

Howard W. Green
Howard W. Green, 86, formerly of 1106 Isabella St., died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, in Rose View Manor. His wife, the former Anna A. Neal, died Aug. 28, 1978. He was an electrician for the Jones and Laughlin Steel Company in Muncy. Green was a member of the Central Baptist Church of Williamsport for more than 70 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Born Dec. 24, 1914, in Montoursville, he was a son of Charles L. and Grace M. Flexer Green. Surviving are a son, Howard L. of Moreno Valley, Calif.; a daughter, Doris J. Matson of Smithville, Mo.; a sister, Jane Alexander of this city; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Joseph, and a sister, Violet. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St., with his pastor, the Rev. Roy W. Johnsen, officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Ralph E. Hornberger
Ralph Edgar Hornberger, 74, of 1852 Frederick Ave., died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at his home. He was employed by the former Ille Electric for 23 years, Chemcote and Clarence Bauder (a building contractor), retiring from Bowser Manufacturing in Montoursville. He was a member of Faith Alliance Church. Hornberger played Little League Baseball on the initial Lycoming Dairy team under LL founder Carl E. Stotz. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the U.S. Missouri. Born Dec. 27, 1926, in this city, he was a son of Foster J. and Violet Hensler Hornberger. He and his wife, the former Lois A. Watts, would have observed their 48th wedding anniversary on Feb. 22. Surviving, besides his wife, are three sons, Monty L. of Hughesville, Dennis A. of Jersey Shore and Greg R. of DuBoistown; two daughters, Sandra Swartz of Picture Rocks and Becky Reese of Benton; three sisters, Grace Paulhamus of this city and Evelyn Sotack of Redondo Beach, Calif.; Lois Lehman of Cogan Station, and 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Wanda Lepley and Jean Pitonyak. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, 2405 Bottle Run Road, with the Rev. John Otto, his pastor, and the Rev. Jonathan Baker, pastor of Trinity Assembly of God, Montoursville, and his nephew, the Rev. Daniel Lepley, pastor of the Dalmatia Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville, with military honors by the Korean War Veterans. Friends may call at the church from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Sanders’, 821 Diamond St.

Mary Elsie Lynes Mary Elsie Lynes, 96, of 757 Gardner Road, Unityville, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at her home. Her husband, Capt. Hugh Lynes, died in November 1983. She was a homemaker. She loved gardening and animals. She was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church in Muncy. Born Aug. 16, 1904, in Watford, England, she was a daughter of Capt. John A. and Evaline Graham Mordue. Surviving are two daughters, Rose Marie Tucker of Winter Garden, Fla., and E. Christine Klusmeyer, with whom she lived; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two stepgreat-grandchildren and two stepgreat-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Hilary Branch, a brother, Graham Mordue, a granddaughter, and a stepgreat-grandson. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at the church, 215 S. Main Street, with her pastor, the Rev. John Hoover, officiating. Burial will be in Florida at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Wallis-Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.

Marjorie N. Perry
Marjorie N. Perry, 62, of Columbia Cross Roads, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at her home. Her husband of 39 years, Charles G. Perry, died on Nov. 25, 1992. A lifelong resident of Columbia Cross Roads, she attended Troy schools. She was employed at various businesses, including the former Eureka Plant and Bono’s Restaurant, both in Troy. Most recently, she was a nurse’s aid at the Bradford County Manor, until she retired due to ailing health. Perry was a member of the Austinville Union Church. She enjoyed dining out, camping and traveling. Born March 16, 1938, in Sayre, she was a daughter of Reuben W. and Myrtle V. Johns Barrett. Surviving are three sons, Charles Jr. and Ralph, both of Columbia Cross Roads, Harold of Mansfield; five daughters, Bonnie Kinner of Alba, Karen Route of Mainesburg, Teresa Malik of Columbia Cross Roads, Janet Perry of Troy and Diane Arthur of Franklindale; a brother, Reuben Barrett Jr. of Troy; 21 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Oliver “Boots” Barrett. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pepper’s, Springbrook Drive, Canton, with Robert Stradling, pastor of the East Smithfield Federated Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Troy. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

William T. Reich
JERSEY SHORE — William T. Reich, 77, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Manor Care Nursing Center, where he had been a resident of the Alzheimer’s unit. He had lived in Clinton County since 1967, when he joined the English faculty at the former Lock Haven State College, from which he retired in 1990. He graduated from Miami High School in 1939, where he was the state saber champion, and earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Miami in 1946. He earned a master’s degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania in 1948 and a Ph.D in 17th Century English Drama from the University of Pennsylvania in 1953. Reich studied: philosophy with Sidney Hook at New York University in 1941; Renaissance literature at the University of Florence, Italy, in 1945; Shakespeare at the University of Birmingham, England, in 1948; and cinema at Temple University, the University of Souther California and the New School for Social Research. He was an assistant instructor of English at the University of Pennsylvania, an instructor of English at the University of Miami, the managing editor of Medical Economics, publications director of the American Institute of Management and an assistant professor of English at Rutgers. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Italian campaign north of Rome with the 88th Division of the 5th Army. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart while serving as a Staff Sergeant and platoon leader. He was the author of “Thomas Killigrew’s Claricilla: A critical edition,” a 1982 revision of his dissertation, “Ingmar Bergman Directs King Lear” for The Shakespeare Newsletter in 1984, and two screenplays, “The Lane Gang” and “South of Zero, and was noted for many other accomplishments. Born Oct. 27, 1923 in New York City, N.Y., he was a son of Henry Jr. and Molka Tenenholtz Reich. Surviving are a sister, Helene Lesansky of Burke, Va.; three sons, William Henry of Mt. Tremper, N.Y.; James Christopher of Blairstown, N.J.; and Robert David of Staunton, Va.; and five grandchildren. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Yost-Gedon’s, Main Street, Lock Haven. Interment will be in Arlington Cemetery.

Caroline M. Riccardo
Caroline M. Riccardo, 85, of 746 W. Third St., died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Williamsport Hospital. Her husband, Peter F. Riccardo, died Feb. 10, 1984. She was a homemaker and a longtime cook at the former Old Town Tavern. She was a member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church. She enjoyed bingo and ceramics. Born April 27, 1915, in this city, she was a daughter of Antonio and Lucia DeLuca Santalucia. She was raised by her father and stepmother, Teresa Chicatel. Surviving are a son, Peter F. Jr. of this city; a daughter, Jane Letendre of Belcamp, Md.; five sisters, Helen Ash, Jean Paternostro, Laura Early, Augustine Santalucia, all of this city, and Annabelle Horrigan of Beverly, Mass.; three grandchildren, Peter Salamone, David and Douglas Riccardo; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann Riccardo and two brothers, Albert and Wilson Santalucia. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Crouse’s, 133 E. Third St., with the Rev. Michael McCormick officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Helen E. Brong
Helen E. Brong, 72, of Indianapolis, Ind., a city native, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001. She was a homemaker. She was a volunteer at Community Hospital North Gift Shop and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Born Nov. 26, 1928, in this city, she was a daughter of Donald R. and Ruth Ann Taylor Heiny Sr. Surviving are her husband, Sid E. Brong; two sons, Stephen E. and R. Scott, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; a daughter, Susan E. Cox of Greenwood, Ind.; and one grandchild. A memorial service will be held at noon Thursday at Shirley Brothers Fishers Castleton Chapel, Indianapolis, Ind.

Canda M. Krugle
Canda M. Krugle, 42, of Shady Acres Trailer Court, Antes Fort, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Jersey Shore Hospital. She and her husband, Vincent Krugle, were married for over 20 years. She was a homemaker. She attended First United Methodist Church of Jersey Shore. Born Nov. 25, 1958, in this city, she was a daughter of Jesse and Doris M. Spong Hoffman. Surviving, besides her husband, are a son, Jeff of this city; two daughters, April A. Hoffman at home and Sheila Krugle of Butler; four brothers, Jesse W. Hoffman of this city, Leroy E. Hoffman of Cogan Station, Richard L. Hoffman of Renovo and Clarence E. Hoffman of Oval; and a sister, Audrey L. Rishel of Antes Fort. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Roseali H., on Sept. 27, 2000, her father and mother, Doris, on Dec. 15, 2000, and a sister, Dorothy Rishel in June 2000. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Rearick-Carpenter’s, 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore, with the Rev. W. Keith Rockwell officiating. Burial will in Tombs Run Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
