LOCK HAVEN - Erma V. Carr, 82, of 100 Short St., died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at Valley View Nursing Center, Warrensville Road, Montoursville. Her husband, Elmer W. Carr, died Feb. 24, 1979. She was retired from Kelco, Jersey Shore. She was a member of Avis United Methodist Church. Born Nov. 15, 1918, in Jersey Shore, she was a daughter of Harry and Della Barto Ergott. Surviving are a son, Harry W. of Jersey Shore; two daughters, June M. Ray of Hilton Head, S.C., and Virginia A. Spong of Dayton, Tenn.; a brother, Ellis W. Ergott of Flemington; a sister, Arlene M. Mayes of Antes Fort; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Welker’s, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, with the Rev. Mark D. Woodring officiating. There will be no visitation.

Jack B. Clark
Jack B. Clark, 71, of 2873 Fort Hill Road, Geneva, N.Y., brother of a city woman, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001. He was a laborer at L.S. Lee for 30 years before his retirement. He was a member of American Legion Post 396. He was a Navy veteran. Born Nov. 1, 1929, in this city, he was a son of Truman and Louise Benedict Clark. Surviving, besides his wife, Helen Sampson Clark, are a son, John of Geneva, N.Y.; a daughter, Cheryl Clark of Geneva, N.Y.; a sister, Wilhmenia Wertz of this city; two grandchildren, Jeffrey and Martin Clark; and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Palmisano’s, 28 Genesee St., Geneva, N.Y., with the Rev. Clark West officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Oaklawn Cemetery, with full military honors. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight.

Lottie J. Delycure
Lottie J. Delycure, 86, of 429 Arch St., Montoursville, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, in Williamsport Hospital. Her husband, Francis J. Delycure, died Dec. 21, 1990. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 366, Womens Auxillary. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan. Born June 13, 1914, in Plains Township, she was a daughter of Constantine and Charlotte Dombrowski Toloczko. Surviving are two sons, Francis J. Jr. of Montoursville and Thomas F. of this city; three daughters, Patricia A. Troisi and Gloria Marie Stopper, both of this city, and Mary F. Rossi of Utica, N.Y.; a brother, Walter Polinski of East Stroudsburg; three sisters, Bertha Rogaski of Sacramento, Calif., Sylvia Kordek of Hamburg, N.J., and Florence Bogumil of Wilkes-Barre; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen in 1972 and by two sisters, Helen Bilski and Theresa Polinski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the church, 100 Walnut St., Montoursville, with the Rev. Thomas P. Shoback officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may call at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. There will be a prayer vigil at 8 p.m.

David C. Springman
David C. Springman, 45, of 400 Hilltop Road, Montoursville, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at home following an extended illness. He and his wife, the former Diane S. Schon, observed their 24th wedding anniversary Jan. 16. He was owner/operator of Springman’s in Eldred Township. Previously, he was foreman of the former Springman Building Supply, Farragut. He attended Loyalsock Baptist Church. Born Sept. 3, 1955, in this city, he was a son of Arnold and Alice Bosch Springman. Surviving, besides his wife, are his father and mother of Montoursville; a son, Floyd D. at home; four daughters, Katie N., Anna L., Megan S., and Renee E., all at home; a brother, Vaughn in Florida; three sisters, Linda Bair and Christine Hall, both of this city and Beverly Simms of Ephratra. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. John W. Pittenger officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy RR 2. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Hervey C. Snyder
HUGHESVILLE - Hervey C. Snyder, 82, of 98 Snyder Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001. He and his wife, the former Thelma E. Folk, observed their 59th wedding anniversary Nov. 26. He was a cabinet builder for the former Anton-Waldman and the former J.K. Rishel, both in Hughesville and the former Mode Craft. He was a Penn Township farmer. He was a member of Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Penn Township. He was an original member of Sure Shot Hunting Club. He enjoyed hunting and farming. Born April 27, 1918, in Penn Township, he was a son of William C. and Anna Reese Snyder. Surviving, besides his wife, are a daughter, Lucille S. Mingle of Hughesville; and a sister, Hazel L. Barto of Hughesville. He was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Barto. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., with the Rev. George E. Doran officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy RR 2. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Marion S. Bennett
MILLERTON - Marion S. Bennett, 78, formerly of this borough died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at the Green Home Inc., Wellsboro. She was a retired Professor of Elementary Education at the former Mansfield State College. She served on the Northern Tioga School Board and the County Vo-Tech Board. She was a member of Millerton Methodist Church. She earned a master’s degree from Columbia University. Born Feb. 27, 1922, in Millerton, she was a daughter of James and Almira Spencer Slocum. Surviving are a son, John of Millerton; a brother, Wallace Slocum of Chenango Forks, N.Y.; a sister, Betty Cook of Stillwater, Maine; three grandchildren, Lacey, Jenell and Justin; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Wilbur. The funeral will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Wilston’s, 18 N. Main St., Mansfield.

Andrew F. Schelb
Andrew F. Schelb, 84, formerly of Warren Ave., died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, in Sycamore Manor Nursing Home. He and his wife, the former Irene M. Krakowski, observed their 60th wedding anniversary Jan. 25. Retiring in 1971, he was employed for 30 years by the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. He was a member of Church of St. Ann. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Council 366; the Father Riechsteiner Assembly, Fourth Degree, and the Republican League. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Born Oct. 13, 1916, in South Williamsport, he was a son of Andrew A. and Mary A. Stopper Schelb. Surviving, besides his wife, are a daughter, Dolores Boysia of Florence, S.C.; a brother, Joseph of Montoursville; three sisters, Sister Mary Schelb I.H.M. of Scranton, Bernardine Lutz of this city, and Monica Lutz of South Williamsport; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church, 1220 Northway Road, with the Rev. Michael McCormick officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Danville. Catherine E. Kahle
Catherine E. Kahle, 83, of 1230 Spring Creek Road, Montgomery, mother of a city man, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, in Williamsport Hospital. Her husband of 50 years, Elmer H. Kahle, died March 22, 1989. She retired in 1979 from Weldon’s Manufacturing Co., city. She previously worked at the former Bobbie Brooks, Montgomery. She was a member of Elimsport United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years and served on the administration board and the council of ministries. She was a 1934 graduate of Montgomery-Clinton High School. She was a member of the Lycoming County Historical Society, the Muncy Historical Society, the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the American Association of Retired Persons. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting and gardening. Born Feb. 21, 1917, in Limestone Township, Montour County, she was daughter of Walter S. and C. Elizabeth Waldron Glaze. Surviving are two sons, Walter H. of Merrimack, N.H. and Charles E. of this city; three daughters, Marjorie A. Tosloskie of Paxinos, Patricia L. Kahle of New Iberia, La., and Deborah S. Kahle of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Mary Smegielski of Naugatuck, Conn.; a half sister, Dorothy Thomas of Cogan Station; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Henderson. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church, 16145 State Route 44 Highway, Elimsport, with the Rev. Max W. Furman officiating. Burial will be in Old Turbotville Cemetery. Friends may call in the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Arrangements are being handled by Betzer’s, 40 E. Houston Ave., Montgomery.

Dorothy E. Larned
MUNCY - Dorothy E. Larned, 91, formerly of 131 South Main St., died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001 in the Muncy Valley Hospital skilled nursing unit, where she had been a resident. Her husband, Harold W. Larned, died March 31, 1986. She and her husband owned and operated Trout Pond Park from 1938 to 1983, and the Ritz Theater from 1934 to 1968. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Born Feb. 18, 1909 in Schuylkill County, she was a daughter of Edgar and Annie Rubright. Surviving are a stepson, Jack Larned of Benton, a step-granddaughter and a step-greatgranddaughter. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wallis-Grenoble’s, 121 South Main St., with her pastor, Rev. Michael R. Gardy presiding. Interment will be in Oddfellows Cemetery. St. Clair. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday.

Vernon D. Roupp
Vernon D. Roupp, 74, formerly of Cogan House, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, in Rose View Manor, where he was a resident. He was a farmer. Born May 7, 1926, in Cogan House, he was a son of William L. and Ruth E. Letson Roupp. Surviving are a brother, Glenn of this city; four sisters, Ona Persun, Eva Schmouder and Shirley Livermore, all of Trout Run and Betty Gardner of Avis; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leo B. in 1973, Miles L. in 1997 and Max E. in 2000. A memorial service will be held will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in White Pine United Methodist Church, Trout Run, with the Rev. John D. Barkley of the Maranatha Church, Linden, officiating. Burial will be in White Pine Cemetery. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St.

Samuel O. Pennella
Samuel O. Pennella, 89, of Pittsburgh, father of a city woman, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh. He and his wife, the former Edith Elizabeth Lusk, observed their 68th wedding anniversary April 27. He was a carpet installer. Born Sept. 10, 1911, in this city, he was a son of Angelo M. and Josephine Leta Pennella. Surviving, besides his wife of Pittsburgh, are a son, Michael A. of Olympia, Wash.; three daughters, Dianne Bauman and Debbie Schanck, both of Pittsburgh and Patricia Fausey of this city; two sisters, Rose Marie Noviello and Blanche Casale, both of this city; 17 grandchildren; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Zondra Lee Lipinski, who died in 1999 and two brothers, Jim and Bill Pennella. Services were held Monday in Pittsburgh. Burial was in Queen of Heaven Cemetery.

Ronda L. Blackwell
WELLSBORO - Ronda Lee Blackwell, 47, of this borough died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, in Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital. She attended the Day Program at Martha Lloyd Community Services, Mansfield. She was a member of River Of Life Fellowship Church. She enjoyed camping and yearly trips to Florida. Born June 14, 1953, in Wellsboro, she was a daughter of Robert L. and Dorothy H. Davis Blackwell. Surviving, besides her parents, are a brother, Bob of Wellsboro; a sister, Sandra Wilkins of Fort Myers, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the church, Route 6, Wellsboro, with the Rev. Keith Paris officiating. Burial will be in Niles Valley Cemetery. Friends may call at Tussey-Mosher’s, 139 Main St., from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday.

Lydia E. Brown
TIOGA - Lydia E. Brown, 84, of this borough died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, in Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro. She and her husband, Russell R. Brown, observed their 58th wedding anniversary July 4. Retiring in 1991, she was a school teacher for the Wellsboro Area School District. She was a member of Middlebury Baptist Church, where she was church clerk, a member of the Women’s Missionary Society, and an organist. She was a graduate of Elmira College, receiving her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in organ. She attended Mansfield University for post-graduate work. She was a member of Wellsboro Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution; Tioga Chapter of Eastern Star, and Delta Kappa Gamma. Born Jan. 26, 1916, in Elmira, N.Y., she was a daughter of Thomas J. and Leala Dickinson Baker Elliott Jr. Surviving, besides her husband, are two sons, Thomas E. of Tioga and Donald R. of Rochester, N.Y.; a daughter, Joanne Cochrane of Jupiter, Fla.; a sister, Martha Raynor-Mader of Pullman, Wash.; and three grandchildren, Janet Marie, Joyce Lynne and Alan Thomas Brown.She was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Gordon and a grandson, Mark Elliot Brown. The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the church, with the Pastor Alex M. Perednia and Rev. Dr. Todd Witmer officiating. Private burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery. Eudora F. Lovell
Eudora F. Lovell, 87, of East Freedom, formerly of Muncy, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at home. Her husband, John E. Lovell, died Jan. 10, 1981. She was a secretary for the former Lovell/Rush Trucking, East Freedom, for many years. She was a former member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Loyalsock Township. She was a graduate of Williamsport High School. She was a former member of Rebecca Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star. Born Dec. 26, 1913, in Lairdsville, she was a daughter of Charles and Adda Sarah Runyan. Surviving are a son, John C. of Ridgway; three sisters, Irene Leighow and Florence Eves, both of Millville and Alice Hock of Danville; and two grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. Jerry A. Cline officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

James T. Moriarty
James T. Moriarty, 84, of Cincinnati, Ohio, a Renovo native, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, in Clearmont Mercy Hospital, Ohio. His first wife, the former Ruth Kimball Turner, died in 1959. He was predeceased by his second wife, Margaret Egan. He was treasurer of the B.F. Drakenfeld Co. of New York City since 1938. He was a 1934 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School, Lock Haven; Northwestern University, Chicago, and New York University, New York City.
He was an Army veteran. He was a golfer and traveler. Born April 6, 1916, in Renovo, he was a son of Patrick M. and Julia Shea Moriarty. Surviving are three sons, Thomas J. in New York, Stephen T. of Houston, Texas and Christopher T. of Cincinnati, Ohio; a daughter, Jeanne M. Moriarty of Muskegon, Mich.; a brother, Patrick R. Moriarty of Lock Haven; and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Immaculate Conception Church, 310 W. Water St., Lock Haven, with Msgr. Dennis R. Boggs officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Friends may call in the church from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday. Arrangements are being handled by Moriarty-Dutcavich’s, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven.

Willard H. Stevens Jr.
Willard Henry Stevens Jr., 82, of The Highlands, Laporte, formerly of Eagles Mere and the father of two city women, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at the center. His wife, Edith May Kisinger Stevens, died March 21, 1975. He retired as a truck driver from Marquardt’s Lumber-Saw Mill. He was a graduate of Sullivan High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Born July 21, 1918, in Harrisburg, he was a son of Willard H. and Elizabeth Stevens Sr. Surviving are two sons, Donald L. and Robert A., both of Eagles Mere; four daughters, Claudia Jeane Barnes of Eagles Mere, Elizabeth A. Kennedy of South Williamsport, Nancy L. Falls of Muncy, and Melanie S. Stevens of this city; three brothers, Delroy of Highspire, Marlin of Hummelstown and Lester of Canada; fours sisters, Nancy Pottiger of Camp Hill, Shirley Gibs of Hummelstown, Adelaide Spurlock in Arkansas and Carol Merritt in Washington; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Eagles Mere Cemetery, with the Rev. Henry E. Gable officiating. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville.

Robert Swank
Robert Swank, 81, of Factoryville RR, brother of a city woman, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at Mercy Hospital Hospice Unit, Scranton. He and his second wife, Norma Walter Swank, observed their 29th wedding anniversary in August. His first wife, the former Gertrude Price, died in 1968. He was a truck driver for Lott Motor Line, New York. He was a member of Pennsylvania 76ers Camping Club. He enjoyed camping and fishing. Born May 27, 1919, in Huntersville, he was a son of Charles Henry and Ethel Alice Miller Swank. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Robert of Brooklyn; a stepson, Charles Freemen of Lemon; two stepdaughters, Bonnie Mislevy and Sandra Latterman, both of Tunkhannock; two brothers, James Richard of Benton and Martin of Berwick; three sisters, Dorothy of Benton, Janice Rhodes of Muncy and Norma Hunter of this city; several step grandchildren; and several step great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Harding-Litwin’s, 123 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with the Rev. Richard Womer officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery. George J. Schaefer
George Jake Schaefer, 85, of Baltimore, Md., formerly of this city, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at the home of his son. He retired from Stone Container in 1981 and previously worked at Avco Lycoming. He was a 1933 graduate of Williamsport High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Born Oct. 21, 1915, in this city, he was a son of George and Mary Manning Schaefer. Surviving are a son, Carl E. of Baltimore, Md.; a daughter, Margaretta Grieco; a stepdaughter, Mary A. Miller of Jersey Shore; a brother, R. Kenneth of this city; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, John and three sisters, Pauline, Ruth and Mary Esther. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St., with the Rev. Kerry R. Aucker, Pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Norman E. Hoffman
Norman E. Hoffman, 91, formerly of this city and the Milton Towers, Milton, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at Valley Hospital, Las Vegas, Nev.
His wife, the former Delphia V. Caris, died Aug. 24, 1985. He and his wife had owned and operated Hoffmans Tastee Freez in this city. He was a former member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, Milton. He was a former member of Milton Fraternal Order of Eagles, Loyal Order of Moose and the Elks. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and was a fan of boxing and horse racing. Born Jan. 19, 1910, in Milton, he was a son of William and Clara Geyer Hoffman. Surviving are a son, William J. of Las Vegas, Nev.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lester, Robert and David, and two sisters, Dorothy Glant and Ethel Everhart. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shaw’s, 400 N. Front St., Milton. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday.
