Harold L. Landon
On the morning of Wednesday, February 13th, 2001, the Lord called home His servant, Harold Lee Landon, of Union Township, after a brief stay at the Williamsport Hospital. He was 74 years of age. Born on his family’s Union Township farm, September 1st, 1926, he was one of six children in the family of Lloyd and Florence (Randall) Landon. Harold was a graduate of Canton High School, Class of 1943. The following Spring, while not yet 18 years old, he served our country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy. After the hostilities ended Harold returned to Canton. He was a very ambitious and entrepreneurial young man, and during the next half century would engage in various business ventures. Among these were his grocery store, his Nationwide Insurance agency and the H&E Apple Orchards, which he ran with his beloved wife, Edna (Austin) Landon. Harold was a very civic minded individual, serving on the Canton Borough Council and the School Authority. He was on the Green Free Library Board for many years, and was honored last year at the Library’s centennial banquet. He served 23 years as treasurer of the local chapter of the Salvation Army, and was a 20 gallon Red Cross blood donor. He was also known as an outstanding bowler. Harold was a man of deep faith and conviction. He was a very active member of the Church Of Christ, (Disciples of Christ) of Canton, where he served as an Elder, a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, chairman of the church’s administrative board and chairman of the Christian Men’s Fellowship. Of paramount importance in Harold’s life was his family. One could not ask for a more kind, loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He touched innumerable lives over the years, both within and outside of his family, and left a positive impression upon our community. Harold is survived by his wife, Edna, at home; sons Dennis (Lana) Landon of St. Louis, Mo., Perry (Lynn) Landon of Jersey Shore, Brian (Helen) Landon of Canton, Robert Landon of Lancaster; daughters Nancy (James) Hardy of Philadelphia, Susan Perfetti of Indiana, Pa., Jana (Gregory) Strong of rr1 Roaring Branch; brother Paul (Julia) Landon of Tunkhannock; sister Ruth Ann (Carl) McCoy of Scapoose, Ore.; eight grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Florence, brothers James and Louis and sister Louise Kerrick. A private funeral and interment will take place at the convenience of the family. Friends are invited to a memorial service at the Church of Christ, (Disciples), 40 N. Minnequa Ave., Canton, Saturday, February 17th, 2 p.m. with Rev. David B. Morris and Rev. Thomas Logston officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. The family will provide the flowers. Contributions in Harold’s memory may be directed to the Church of Christ Memorial Fund, or the Green Free Library, 14 N. Center Street, Canton, Pa., 17724. Professional services have been entrusted to Morse & Kleese Funeral Home, Canton.

Mary L. Sullivan
Mary L. Sullivan, 91, formerly of 953 So. Market St., South Williamsport, died Feb. 13, 2001, at the home of her daughter in Cobb, Georgia. Her husband, William J. Sullivan, died Nov. 2, 1974. Born in Williamsport on March 14, 1909, she was the daughter of Charles B. and Mary Clare Reardon McDermott. She was a lifelong member of the Church of the Annunciation where she was a member of its Altar and Rosary Society and Senior Citizens Club. A graduate of the former St. Joseph’s High School and Williamsport Commercial College, she retired from the former Meelan’s Inc. in 1972. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mary L. Connor, South Amboy, N.J., and Mrs. Laurita C. Stout of Cobb, Ga., with whom she lived; a son, The Reverend William J. Sullivan, of the Order of the Most Holy Trinity, Hyattsville, Maryland; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was predeceased by 11 brothers and sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, 700 W. Fourth St. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s School, 711 W. Edwin St., Williamsport, Pa. Arrangements by Crouse Funeral Home, 133 E. 3rd St.

Louise A. VanOrden
Louise A. (Stanton) VanOrden, 74, formerly of Mansfield, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001. She was the widow of Wesley VanOrden. Surviving are her sons, Terrence (Lynn) VanOrden and William (Carol) VanOrden; 5 grandchildren. Calling hours at Scureman’s, 130 S. Main St., Mansfield, Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be held at the funeral home, Friday, 11 a.m. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Mansfield.

Paul F. Weaver
Paul F. Weaver, 89, of Highland Ave., West Milton, died Wednesday Feb. 14, 2001. He was born in New Columbia, Sept. 25, 1911, a son of the late John and Ida M. Aunkst Weaver. He retired from AC&F Industries in Milton in 1975, graduated from Milton High School in 1931, and was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. Preceded in death by his wife, the former Eva A. Fetich, he is survived by a son, Richard A. Weaver of West Milton; daughters Paula J. Wehr of Milton and JoAnn Robbins of RD Danville; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert, a brother William, and three sisters Pearl Hassinger, Hazel Keefer and Mary Linn. Funeral services, Saturday, Feb. 17, at 10 a.m. at the Shaw Funeral Home 400 N. Front St. Milton. Burial will be in the Twin Hills Memorial Park. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m.

Rocky G. Wodrig
Rocky G. Wodrig, 41, of Muncy, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001 as a s result of a logging accident in Milford, N.J. He and his wife, the former Jodi A. Barnes, celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary on July 16th. Rocky is survived by 2 sons, Ryan W. and Brennan B., both at home; his parents Harold and Norma Davis Wodrig Sr. of Muncy; a brother, Harold (Pete) Wodrig Jr. of Hughesville; a sister, Tammy Keiser of Muncy; 2 nieces and 3 nephews. Rocky is predeceased by a brother, David, who died Nov. 17, 1993. He was part owner of Wodrig’s Logging Inc. where he had worked since 1979. He was a partner in Dutchtown Lumber Co. Rocky loved sports, serving as a former soccer coach for AYSO and the NOR CEN PENN League. He played on the Zephres team in the 30 & over soccer league at the YMCA. He also played in a local softball league for Buceye’s Tavern. Rocky was a racing fan, participating in racing motorcycles, four-wheelers, snowmobiles, and late model cars. He attended Hughesville High School. Rocky’s greatest interest of all was with his children and family. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at McCarty-Thomas, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with Greg Houseknecht and Rev. Carl Harris officiating. Burial will be in Webster Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Lucille C. Case
Lucille C. Case, 85, of Manor Care Health Services South, former resident of Rose Valley, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at Manor Care. Her husband, Kenneth R. Sr., died in 1976. Born Oct. 15, 1915, in Porter Twp., she was a daughter of Thomas & Louisa Kaiser Myers. She attended Rose Valley United Methodist Church, was a homemaker, and an avid bingo player. Surviving are a son, Kenneth R. Jr., of East Berlin; a daughter, Helen M. Baney of Trout Run; 13 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; and a sister, Lena Seyler of Mackeyville. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth M. Houseknecht, June 28, 2000. The funeral service will be at the church on Saturday, 11 a.m., with the Rev. Sandi Foster officiating. Interment in the church Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the church, P.O. Box 119, Trout Run, PA 17771. Arrangements are being handled by Allen & Redmond’s, 331 Elmira St.

Charles L. Cromley
Charles LaRue Cromley, 65, of Brenham, Texas, formerly of Williamsport, died Feb. 14, 2001, at his residence. Surviving are his wife, Carol Cromley; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda and David Allan; and niece, Laurie C. Eck, all of Brenham. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Oaks Chapel, Brenham, with Rev. E. Glynn Ferguson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Lung Association, Houston & Southeast Region, 2425 West Loop South, Suite 330, Houston, TX 77027-4207 or the American Cancer Society, c/o Peggy Moser, Washington County Unit, 1707 S. Jack H. Faust
Jack H. Faust, 75, of Naples, Fla., died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, in Naples Community Hospital. He was born in Williamsport to Jay and Norma Cohen Faust. He moved to Middletown, N.J., where he taught in the Middletown school system for 30 years. Since retiring in 1985, he had lived in Naples. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Mary Louise Faust; a daughter, Diane Eia of Howell, N.J.; a son, David of Williamsport and 4 grandchildren. He was predeceased by both parents and a brother, Robert C. Cremation Services were private. Arrangements were handled by Hodges Funeral Chapel, Golden Gate, Fla.

Dorothy R. Hand
Dorothy R. Hand, 86, of 101 Leader Drive, Williamsport, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at HCR Manor Care South. She was the widow of local artist and sportsman Horace S. Hand, who died Dec. 28, 1977. She was born April 4, 1914, in this city, a daughter of the late Bruce G. and Evelyn Weber Van Housen. Her only survivors are nieces and nephews. Graveside memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wildwood Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Family will provide the flowers. Arrangements by Noll’s, 1 E. Central Ave., S. Wmspt.

Pastor Robert A. Kulzer
Pastor Robert A. Kulzer, 76, of Rochester, N.Y., formerly of Williamsport, died suddenly Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001. Pastor Kulzer was founder of the former Faith Tabernacle, Williamsport, where he ministered for 23 years. Surviving are his wife, Geraldine; children Marcia Murawski of Va., Karen Coran of Pa., Robert Kuhia of Pa.; daughter-in-law Bonita Kulzer of N.Y.; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews & cousins. He was predeceased by his son, Douglas Kulzer Sr. Friends may call Friday only from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the DiPonzio Funeral Home, Inc., 219 Spencerport Rd., Rochester, N.Y., 14606, (716) 429-6700. On Saturday, Feb. 17, friends are invited to attend his funeral services at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Wayne Dent. Interment will be held in the spring.

Betty L. Peese
Betty L. Peese, 75, of Lock Haven Hospital Extended Care Unit died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at the facility. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Yost-Gedon’s, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven, with the Rev. Michael W. Abernathy officiating. Burial will be in Dunnstown Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with VFW services at 10:30 a.m.

Siglinde E. Schonfeld
Siglinde E. Schonfeld, 48, of 735 W. Fourth St., Williamsport, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at home. She was employed by Wundies. Born April 9, 1952 in Frankfurt, Germany, she was the daughter of Walter and Helga Hauck Schonfeld. Surviving besides her mother are a daughter Lakiesha at home; a son, Brandon of Philadelphia; 2 brothers and 1 sister. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St.

Donald E. Walker Sr.
Donald E. Walker Sr., 68, of Memorial Ave., Williamsport, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at home. He and his wife, the former Chloe M. Jenkins, celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary May 7. Born Dec. 6, 1932, in Blossburg, he was a son of the late Benjamin L. and Marion M. Holmes Walker. Retiring in 1998, he was employed for 10 years by the S.C.I. Rockview Department of Corrections, as a correctional officer. Previously, he worked at Bethlehem Steel in security. He was a member of Church of the Savior Lutheran, a 1952 graduate of Elmira Free Academy, Elmira, N.Y., and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and the N.Y. Knicks, Giants and Syracuse Orangemen. Surviving, besides his wife, are 3 sons, Mark Gilliam of Charlotte, N.C., Scot of Surprise, Ariz., & Donald Jr. of Williamsport; 2 daughters, Nina Lockett of Wyndmoor & Leaha Johnson of Williamsport; 2 sisters, Georgiann McGrady of Elmira, N.Y., & Lethia Jane Kelly of Portland, Ore.; 6 grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dara Walker; a brother, Edward Paisley; 2 sisters, Marion Lewis & Juanita Paisley. The funeral will be Monday, 11 a.m., Church of the Savior, Lutheran, 522 Grier St., Williamsport, with the Rev. Harlan Frank Showers, Jr., officiating. Interment in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery. Friends may call at the church, 10-11 a.m. Monday. Arrangements are being handled by Allen & Redmond’s, 331 Elmira St.

Beverly A. Weigold
Beverly A. Weigold, 70, of RR 1 Watsontown, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at Kramm Nursing Home, Watsontown, where she was admitted Dec. 14. She and her husband, William H. Weigold, celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary June 27. Born Aug. 29, 1930, in Mahoning Twp., Montour Co., she was the daughter of the late Ralph L. and Anna Balliett Stahlnecker. Surviving, besides her husband, are 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda K. and Stephen Grace of RR 1 Watsontown, Bonnie S. and Scott Wheeland of RR 1 Cogan Station; a son and daughter-in-law, William S. and Anne Weigold of Charlottesville, Va.; 5 grandchildren, John and Bill Grace, Lisa and Gina Weigold, and Megan Wheeland; and a brother and his wife, Ralph L. and Florence Stahlnecker of Lewisburg. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert C. Stahlnecker. The funeral will be held Saturday, noon, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, RR 1 Watsontown. Friends may call at the church from 10-noon Saturday. Burial will follow in the church Cemetery. John W. Fithian
John William “Bill” Fithian, 83, of Hughesville, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at the Muncy Valley Hospital, SNU. He and his wife, the former Evelyn McClain, celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on Aug. 6th. Bill was a graduate of Williamsport High School. He attended the former Dickinson Jr. College, now Lycoming University, and received a BS in chemical engineering from Bucknell University. He was an Army veteran of WWII. Bill had worked 32 years for the former Atlantic Refining Co., now Atlantic Richfield Co., retiring in 1972. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, the Picture Rocks Lions Club, Muncy Lodge #299 F&AM, the Williamsport Consistory and the Lycoming Chapter #509 National Sojourners Club. Bill is survived by his loving wife, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a brother, Harry C. Fithian Jr., and a sister, Grace Fithian Sheaffer. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family with the Rev. Ralph Hibbs officiating. Burial will be in Picture Rocks Cemetery. The family will provide the flowers. Contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 148 S. Main St., Hughesville, PA 17737 or the Susquehanna Home Health Hospice, 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.

John H. O’Neill
Family & friends mourn the passing of John “Jack” O’Neill of Birmingham, Ala., on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Nov. 2, 1932 to a family of prominent policemen & women. His grandmother was the first New York City police woman. Declining to pursue that career, he studied engineering at Brooklyn Technical High School, Brooklyn Polytechnical Institute, and University of PA. He served in many engineering & engineering management positions at major firms such as Sperry Rand, Sanders Associates and Sylvania. It was the latter which brought him to the Williamsport area in 1961. He joined the Brodart Company in 1973 as Manager of manufacturing and was appointed Vice President in June, 1977. After a successful career he retired from Brodart in 1991, moving to Alabama shortly thereafter. He is survived by his wife Helga, son Brendan of Boston, Mass., daughter Tammy of Phoenix, Ariz., and 3 grandchildren, Travis, Mitchell and Matthew. Services will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Tuesday, 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Diabetes Action Research and Education Foundation, Washington, D.C. or the American Liver Foundation, New York, N.Y.
