A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9 in the Riverside Cemetery (use detour), Knoxville. Memorials may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church, Westfield, PA 16950. Arrangements are entrusted to the Benjamin R. Olney Funeral Home, Ulysses, PA.

Glenn G. Pepperman

Glenn G. Pepperman of 3510 Duke St., College Park, MD, passed away on August 17, 2001.
He was the son of Glen and Edna (Stradley) Pepperman. He is survived by his wife, the former May McCloskey; one son, Craig Pepperman of Bowie, MD; one brother, Harold Pepperman of Jersey Shore; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by one brother, Dr. Carl Pepperman.
He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy on the LSM 338. He was a graduate of Lock Haven State Teachers College. He was a guidance counselor at both Milton and Spring Brook, MD. High Schools. After that, Glenn went to work for the National Geographic Society in the Human Resources Department until his retirement.
Private services were handled by the Fort Lincoln Funeral Home.

Marian A. (Route) Richards

Marian A. (Route) Richards, 71, longtime resident of Roaring Branch, passed away at home on Wednesday afternoon, September 5, 2001, while surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Gaines, NY on Aug. 31, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Alzora Walrath Whiting.
Marian was raised in the Ralston area and attended school there. In earlier years, she was employed by Welden’s Sewing until its closure and then by Glamorise Sewing, both located in Williamsport. She later accepted a cooking position for the North Penn Health Center in Blossburg for many years until her retirement. She was a member of the Roaring Branch Methodist Church.
Marian’s family was most precious to her; they brought her so much pride and joy. She loved the days spent shopping and doing lunch with her daughters, the times of family gatherings at Old Possessions Hunting Camp, and being one of the best sports fans her family could ever ask for.
Surviving are 2 sons and 3 daughters-in-law, Alfred Jr. & Marilynn Route of Canton, Rick & Denise Route of city, Sally Route of Canton; 4 daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jane & Ron Slocum of Canton, Susan & Gordie Collister of Roaring Branch, Brenda & Jim Colton and Linda & Dave Rockwell, all of Canton; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Newell Whiting of Rochester, NY; a sister, Grace Norman of Liberty; many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and cousins.
Marian was predeceased by her first husband, Alfred Route Sr., on Oct. 8, 1978; second husband, Jamie Richards on Feb. 13, 1998; son, Ernest Route on Mary 25, 1998; sister, Pauline Dodge and brother, Wellington Whiting.
The family will receive friends 6-9 p.m. today, Sept. 7, at the Pepper Funeral Home, Springbrook Dr., Canton. The funeral will be held at the funeral home, 2 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Glen Landis officiating. Burial will follow in the Roaring Branch Cemetery.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests that memorials may be directed in Marian’s memory to the Ernest E. Route Athletic Scholarship, c/o First Citizens National Bank, 29 W. Main St., Canton, PA, 17724.

Robert F. Janson Jr.

Robert F. Janson Jr., 82, of Williamsport, died Thursday, September 6, 2001 at the Williamsport Hospital.
Born September 29, 1918 in this city, he was a son of the late Robert F. and Gennieve (Luxenberger) Janson. His wife, the late Helen E. (Zimmerman) Janson died in 1993.
He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1936. He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church, where he volunteered in the kitchen. He also volunteered at Roseview Nursing Home. He enjoyed gardening.
He served in the U.S Army during WWII in the South Pacific and again during the Korean conflict. He was a machine operator for Wright Brothers/Trimtex for 44 years until he retired in 1983.
Surviving are three sons, Robert F. III of Thomasville, NC, Joe of city and James V. of New Llano, LA; three daughters, Marietta DelVecchio and Veronica Holzapfel of city, and Jane E. Mattews of Johnstown; three sisters, Ann McQuillen of city, Sister Mariette Janson S.C.C. and Sister Virginia Janson S.C.C. of Danville; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by one brother, James and one sister, Eileen Gould.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. at the Annunciation Catholic Church, 701 W. 4th St., Williamsport, with the Rev. Michael Zipay of the St. Boniface officiating. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery. Visitation will be 8:30-9:30 a.m. Monday at the Allen & Redmond Funeral Home, 331 Elmira St.
Memorial contributions may be made to Annunciation Church, 701 W. 4th St., Williamsport, PA, 17701.

Peter W. Raker

Peter W. Raker, 89, of 1900 A Ravine Road, Williamsport, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, in the Williamsport Home.
Born Feb. 5, 1912 in Hepburn Twp., Lycoming Co., he was a son of the late Christ and Sarah Spotts Shafer Raker. On May 16, 1934 he married Doris Sechrist, who survives at home.
He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church since 1935, where he served on the Steward Board and Pastor Staff Committee. He was a member of the Good News Sunday School Class. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association. Pete retired with 40 years of service from Lycoming Avco.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, the Rev. Dr. William L. Raker of Baltimore, MD, and Raymond C. Raker of State College; five grandsons; one granddaugter; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in St. John’s United Methodist Church, 2101 Newberry St., with the Revs. Kraig L. Faust and John R. Shafer, officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. Monday till time of service. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Building Fund of St. John’s Church.

Charles Rechel

Charles Rechel, 79, of 2026 Zuni Lane, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at his summer residence along the Loyalsock Creek. Born February 27, 1922 in Williamsport, he was a son of Charles and Mildred Potter Rechel.
Charles was a 1939 graduate of Williamsport High School and attended the University of Kentucky. He was a veteran of World War II and retired in 1982 as controller of Stone Container. He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and Ivy Lodge 397 F.&A.M. An avid bowler, Charles participated in the Seniors’ and Monday Night Leagues.
He and his wife, the former Betty Tomlinson, celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on February 9. Surviving, in addition to Betty, are a son, Michael W. Rechel of Collingswood, NJ; two daughters, Barbara J. Rechel of Cogan Station and Mary A. Kimble of city; three grandsons, Dustin and Nathan Kimble and Travis Rechel; a sister, Marion McArthur of city; and a brother, Robert G. Rechel, of city.
Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Wildwood Cemetery with his pastor, the Rev. Kenneth R. Elkin, officiating. Friends may call at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., from 7-9 p.m. Monday.
The family will provide the flowers and suggest contributions be made to Susquehanna Hospice, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.

Helen J. Sinclair

Helen J. Sinclair, 89, of 608 Highland Terrace, Williamsport, died Wednesday, September 6, 2001, at her home.
Born July 20, 1912 in Williamsport, she was the daughter of Anthony R. and Josephine Mudge Jackson.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Sydney E. Sinclair and a son, Thomas M. Sinclair.
She attended Wilson College and Lycoming College.
Mrs. Sinclair was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Women’s Auxilary of the Lycoming County Medical Society and a sustaining member of the Junior League. She also had been a volunteer with the Williamsport Hospital and the Altar Guild of Trinity Episcopal Church.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Sherry Sinclair of Wellsboro; three grandchildren, Jen Quackenbush of Presho, NY, Matt Sinclair, Riggins, ID and Kate Abadi of Jersey Shore; three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Nancy Ertel of Williamsport, Ann Hammatt of South Orleans, MA and Jane Jackson of Muncy.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, Sept. 10 at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Trinity Episcopal Church with Rev. Andrew M. France, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery.
If desired memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 844 West Fourth St., Williamsport, PA 17701 or to Susquehanna Regional Home Health Services, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.

Elma C. Gottshall, 97, of 286 Park Ave., Woolrich, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001 at home. She was born Sept. 2, 1904 in Caldwell. Surviving are a daughter, Linda Myers of Woolrich; 2 sisters, 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, 231 High St., Flemington. Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Interment will be in Woolrich Cemetery.

George K. Harris Jr.

George K. Harris, Jr., 91, of 1445 Sycamore Road, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001 at Sycamore Manor Nursing Center. His wife, the former Mettie Platt, preceded him in death in 1991.
Born Sept. 10, 1909 in Williamsport, he was a son of George K. Sr. and Loretta Cummings Harris. His father, George K. Harris, Sr. was former mayor of Williamsport. Mr. Harris was the former owner and operator of East End Lumber Co.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the European Theatre of War. Mr. Harris was active in local veterans organizations for many years.
Surviving are three nephews, Keith N. Waltz of Tupper Lake, N.Y., Bertrand Waltz of Camp Hill and George H. Waltz of Flower Mound, Texas and a niece, Judith H. Duran of Poland, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Crouse Funeral Home, 133 E. Third St., with the Rev. Ruth Romberger, pastor of the Heshbon Park United Methodist Church, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Williamsport Cemetery.
