Roger S. Care

Roger S. Care, age 81, of Hillsgrove Pa, formerly of Ephrata, Pa, died Friday, September 14, 2001, at his home.
He and his wife the former Gladys G. Brooks celebrated 54 years of marriage on November 27, 2000.
Roger received his B.S. from West Chester University and then received his Masters in Education from Temple University. He also attended Albright College, Penn State University and Millersville University.
Roger was a schoolteacher and coach in Ephrata school district for 10 years. Then taught Special Education, Physical Education, at the CoCalico High School in Lancaster County for 23 years. While he was at CoCalico High school he also was the guidance counselor and coach.
Roger was a member of the Mellinger Lutheran Church in Schoeneck, Pa (Lancaster County) and attended Living Hope Fellowship while living in Estella, Pa.
Roger enjoyed golfing, coaching, Flea markets and antiques.
Born May 23, 1920, in Steelton, Pa, he was the son of the late Roger S. and Grace Johnson Care, Jr.
He is survived by his wife. Two daughters and son in laws, Heidi Sue and Ronald Eisenhard of Hillsgrove, Pa and Margaret Jane and John Fulton of Havertown, Pa. One son and daughter-in-law, R. Stanley and Joyce Care of Shillington, Pa. Eight grand children and one great grandchild. One Nephew Ross B. Care of Vera Cruse, California. He is pre deceased by a brother Ross J. Cate in 1969.
There will be a memorial Service on Sunday, September 23, 2001 at 4:30 p.m. at the Living Hope Fellowship Church Rt. 154 in Estella, Pa with the pastors Timothy Craver, Ted L. Cockley and Randy Brunstetter officiating. Following the memorial service there will be a gathering at the church.

Robert R. Kitchen

Robert R. Kitchen, 84, of Valley View Nursing Center, died Feb. 25, 2002, at his residence.
Born Feb. 5, 1918, in Wellsboro, the son of Dieves and Lena Welch Kitchen. Mr. Kitchen was married to the former Betty M. Hutchison.
He was an Air Force B17 Bomber Pilot in WWII. He retired as Lt. Colonel in the Air Force Reserves and as an instructor from Fort Monmouth Signal School, NY. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Montoursville.
Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Gary S. Kitchen of Rockaway, NJ and two grandchildren, Marc and Michele.
Funeral services will be held Thursday 11 a.m. at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with his pastor, Rev. Paul C. Murphy officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 10-11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park.

Alice M. Reaser

Alice M. Reaser, 73, of RR1 Allenwood, died late Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Her husband, Donald F. Reaser, died March 13, 1989, following 42 years of marriage.
She farmed with her husband at RR1 Allenwood most of her married life and had been a baker at the former Family Afare restaurant during the 1990s. Most recently, she had worked at Stepping Stones Assisted Living Home at Turbotville.
A member of Spring Garden Grange 32, she loved gardening and canning and enjoyed needlepoint and embroidery. She had attended rural school in Delaware Twp.
Mrs. Reaser was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Watsontown.
Born March 5, 1928, in Delaware Twp., Northumberland, Co., she was the daughter of Franklin and Katie Arbogast Bieber.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, Terry R. and Marie F. Reaser of RR1 Allenwood, Jerry E. and Connie J. Reaser of Circle J Road, Allenwood; a daughter, Joyce E. Reaser, with whom she lived; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jerri Lee Reaser, who died in 1980 and two brothers, Preston (1969) and Charles (1993) Reaser.
The funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the church, 602 Main St., Watsontown, with the Rev. Ed Henry, her pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Donald Jones of Watsontown Alliance Church. Burial will follow in Uniontown (Allenwood) Cemetery.
Friends may call at the William F. Brooks Funeral Home, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville, from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.
The family suggests contributions in her memory be made to her church.

Arthur W. Smith Sr.

Arthur W. Smith, Sr., 79, of Shunk, died Feb. 24, 2002, at the Williamsport Hospital.
Art was born on Oct. 30, 1922, in Wallace Run, the son of the late Samuel and Hazel Leighton Smith. Art honorably served our country in the Army during WWII.
Art was employed for many years as a truck driver with the L.L. Baumunk and Son Lumber Company in Shunk. He was also a supervisor for Fox Township, Sullivan County.
Mr. Smith’s memberships included the Canton VFW Post 714, American Legion Post 303, Canton Moose Lodge 429, the Endless Winds Volunteer Fire Co., West Alliance EMS, Red Run Rod and Gun Club, the Sullivan County Fair Assoc. and the Pony Pullers Assoc.
A friendly and well-known man, Art dearly loved times spent with his family and many friends. He enjoyed nature and liked to hunt, fish, camp, travel and tend to his garden. He especially enjoyed his winter home in Florida. Art’s pulling ponies brought him much pleasure and he was very proud of the first place trophy he won in 1997 at the Penna. State Farm Show in Harrisburg.
He is survived by seven children and their spouses, Arthur Jr. and Linda Smith of North Carolina, Beverly and Heckle Newcomer of Roaring Branch, Betty and Dave Phillips of Milton, Della Donato of Williamsport, Sharon and Hal Norton of Shunk, Robert and Debbie Smith of Canton, Bill and Shelly Smith of Shunk; 30 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ora Hartford of Roaring Branch, a brother and sister-in-law, James and Delores Henry of Michigan; a very special friend, Anna Patterson of Shunk; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; beloved pets Shorty and Peanuts and his ponies.
Mr. Smith was predeceased by his wife, Caroline Smith, in 1991, a daughter, Deborah Smith Williams, on Feb. 7, 2002; a son-in-law, Donald Donato; a sister, Ellen Henry and four brothers, Kenneth, Clinton and Arnold Smith and Miles Henry.
Friends may call on Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Pepper Funeral Home, Springbrook Drive, Canton. The funeral service for Mr. Smith and a memorial service for his daughter, Deborah Williams, who died Feb. 7, 2002, will be held together at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Herbert Eby officiating. Burial will be held in the Ellenton Cemetery, with full military honors accorded.
Those who wish may direct memorials in Mr. Smith’s name to the Endless Winds Fire Co. at PO Box 39, Shunk, PA 17768 or the Shunk United Methodist Church, PO Box 70, Shunk, PA 17768.

Bessie J. Waltz

Bessie J. Waltz, 81, 322 Washington Ave., Jersey Shore, died Feb. 23, 2002, at her residence.
She is survived by one daughter, two sons and three sisters. She was preceded in death by one son, two grandchildren and her husband.
Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Wetzler Funeral Home, Mill Hall. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m.
Memorials may go to the Lamar United Methodist Church.

Doris B. Worthington

Doris B. Worthington, formerly of Williamsport, passed away Sun. Feb. 17th at a Nursing Facility after a long illness. She was predeceased by her husband Carl and survived by one daughter, Virginia Lutz, son in law Michael and 2 Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren; 2 Sisters Mabel Bower & Margaret Mortimer. Friends and family may attend a graveside service at Twin Hills Memorial Chapel on Feb. 28, at 2 p.m. No visitation.

Sanford W. Huff

Sanford W. Huff, 1575 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002 at the Williamsport Home where he lived for the past five months. Family and friends recently honored him at a celebration of his 92nd birthday.
He and his wife, the former Goldie Louise Crawley, observed their 18th wedding anniversary in May of last year.
Sanford was the owner of Huff’s Jeep dealership in Williamsport from 1955 until his retirement in 1986. Huff’s was one of the oldest Jeep dealership in the country to be continuously owned and operated by the same person. Previously, he had owned Huff’s coal yard.
He was a 50 year member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of the Republican League, a 50 year member of Dietrick Lamade Lodge #755 F. & A.M. He was also a member of the Williamsport Consistory and the Morgan Valley Hunting Club and was an avid card player.
Born Feb. 12, 1910 in Beech Creek, he was the son of James D. and Alice Bitner Huff.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Beverly Perez and Bonnie Paulhamus, both of Montoursville; a step son, David L. Springman, city; a step daughter, Christine Shipton, Linden; one sister, Ruth Anderson, Burbank, CA; four grandchildren, five step grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A sister, Louise V. Segal, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. at the church, 1427 Memorial Ave. with Rev. David L. Weaver, his pastor, officiating. Interment in Beech Creek Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Visitation 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Knight-Confers, 1914 Memorial Ave. with a Masonic service at 8:30 p.m.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions be made to the church.

James R. Wertz

James R. Wertz, 88, a resident of 93 Wagner Ave., Montgomery, PA, passed away at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002 in the Williamsport Home. Born in Clinton Twp., Lycoming County, PA, on Saturday, Nov. 15, 1913, he was the son of the late Samuel and Florence (Shaffer) Wertz.
He was the husband of Alberta V. (Clark) Wertz with whom he celebrated a 63rd wedding anniversary on June 17, 2001.
He was employed at the former Anton-Waldman, Hughesville, PA retiring in 1975.
He was a member of the Clinton Baptist Church at Montgomery, PA. He enjoyed woodworking, bowling, collecting clocks and the outdoors.
In addition to his wife he is survived by 4 sons and 3 daughters-in-law, Timothy and Cathy Wertz, Hughesville, PA; Richard Wertz, Watsontown, PA; Dale and Barbara Wertz, South Williamsport, PA; Sam and Ruth Wertz, Allenwood, PA; 1 daughter, Margaret Snyder, Montgomery, PA; and 2 sisters, Helen Laidacker, Montoursville, PA; Florence Witmer, Muncy, PA. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Laura Wertz and 1 son, James Wertz.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 North Main St., Muncy, PA at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002 with Rev. Larry LeFeber, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Green Lawn Memorial Park, Clinton Twp., Lycoming County, PA. Friends may call on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Daniel P. Doud

Dr. Daniel P. Doud, 64, Pittsburgh, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center, Pittsburgh.
Born on March 7, 1937 in Lawrenceville, he was the son of Hiram and Margretta (Utter) Doud.
Visitation Saturday, March 2, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, 637 Main St., Mansfield. Services immediately following the viewing. The Rev. Victor Perry officaitong. Burial will be in Powers Cemetery, Lawrenceville.

Kathy E. Kilgore

Kathy E. Kilgore, 50, of 1214 Anniston Beach Road, Anniston, Alabama, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002 at the home of her mother, Constance M. Keller, 2216 Lincoln St., Williamsport, PA. Kathy was the wife of David W. Kilgore.
Born Oct. 13, 1951, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of Harley E. "Bill" Keller, Sr. and Constance M. Andrews Keller.
Kathy was a graduate of Williamsport High School and was a member and secretary of Calvary Temple Assembly of God of Church in Anniston.
Surviving in addition to her mother and husband are five daughters: Ricki Klopp and Billie Stine of Williamsport, and Jackie, Bobbie and Stevi Stine of Alabama; a son, Matthew Stine of San Fransico, CA; three sisters, Linda Heller and Constance Matthews of Williamsport, and Deborah Shaffer of Huntersville, PA; two brothers, Harley Keller, Jr. and Mark Wayne Keller of Williamsport; and 14 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday from Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport, with the Rev. Charles Glover, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery, PA. Friends may call at Sanders’ from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and from 11 a.m. till noon on Wednesday.
