Robert Cloyd Sunderland
Robert Cloyd Sunderland, 73, of Watson Twp., died Saturday, April 26, 2003, at Jersey Shore Hospital. He and his wife, Mona Sunderland, were marriage for 49 years.
Robert was born on April 29, 1929, in Williamsport, a son of William J. and Lelitia A. Gramley Sunderland.
He was a 1947 graduate of Williamsport High School and also graduated from Williamsport Community College.
Robert retired from the Army as a First Sergeant with over 20 years of service in the military.
He was a charter member of the Woodward Township Volunteer Fire Company, and also a member of the Retired Enlisted Association, the Association for the United States Army, the American Military Society and the Army Historical Foundation.
Surviving besides his wife are a sister, Joan E. Demarest of Linden; three brothers, Donald of Muncy, Kenneth of Williamsport, and Ronald of Linden, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Arlene Morrison, and three brothers, William, Charles and Richard Sunderland.
A celebration of Robert’s life will be on Wednesday with a visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, “A Life Celebration Home,” 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park. The family will provide the flowers and suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, American Lung Association or to the American Cancer Society.

Robert L. Stackhouse
Robert L. Stackhouse, 76, of 2381 Rt. 405, Muncy, died Saturday, April 26, 2003, at the Williamsport Hospital.
He and his wife of 52 years, the former Norma J. Smith, were marriage on April 28, 1950.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Roland Ritter Post #268, American Legion, Muncy, and the Edward Smith Post #3428, V.F.W., Muncy.
He retired Jan. 1, 1987, from the former Koppers, Muncy, now Andritz, where he worked as a foreman, and was a member of its Quarter Century Club.
Born Nov. 26, 1926, in Milton, he was the son of Howard and E. Desda Sweitzer Stackhouse.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara G. and Tom Schoch of Charleston, S.C.; one sister, Betty Livingston of Milton; and one granddaughter, Sara Schoch.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wallis-Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy. Officiating will be the Rev. D. Gene Patterson, pastor of Muncy Baptist Church. Interment with full military honors will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, Northeastern Pennsylvania District, 1704 Warren Ave., Williamsport, PA 17701.

Ronald E. Powers
Ronald E. Powers, 31, formerly of Lock Haven, died at the Dove St. Group Home in Williamsport on Saturday, April 26, 2003.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, with Pastor Robert Kitchen officiating. Interment will follow in Dunnstown Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Clair Richard Staggert
Clair Richard “Dick” Staggert, 82, of South Creek Road, Allenwood, died Saturday, April 26, 2003, at Evangelical Community Hospital. He and his wife, the former Henrietta M. Kerwell, celebrated 62 years of marriage on Oct. 19.
Born July 15, 1920, in Montgomery, he was the son of the late L.H. and Edna R. (Young) Staggert.
He retired from Bethlehem Steel Co., Williamsport in 1981 after 39 years of employment there. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and watching baseball games on television.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army as a gun crewman with the 400th Armored Field Artillery Battalion in the European Thatre.
Surviving besides his wife are a son, William R. (Diane) Staggert, Montgomery; a daughter, Edna M. Loss, at home; a brother, Frank Staggert and sister, Babe Lawton, both of Montgomery; seven grandchildren: Tom and Ronald Staggert, Kevin and Jeff Hamilton, Tammy Long, Diana McCloskey and William R. Staggert Jr.; and 16 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Robert Sr., and Gervase Staggert and a sister, Ruth Snyder.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, at White Deer Valley Baptist Church, Allenwood, with the Rev. Lois Yeagle, his pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Geen Lawn Memorial Park where full military honors will be accorded by combined veterans’ organizations.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in his memory be made to White Deer Valley Baptist Church, 572 White Deer Valley Baptist Church Road, Allenwood, PA 17810.

Donald A. Ryder
Donald A. Ryder, 94, died April 26, 2003, at the Skilled Nursing Unit in Muncy. He was born on Aug. 17, 1908, son of the late Charles and Margaret Ocy Phillips Ryder. He worked at Darling Valve.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen Herriman Ryder. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Allen and Redmond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Helen Sukolsky
Helen Sukolsky, 86, of 1130 Towncrest Road, died Friday, April 25, 2003, in Williamsport Hospital. She was born on April 16, 1917, in Fayette County, German Township; a daughter of Joseph and Annie Rogan Warsack.
She was marriage to Sam Sukolsky for 41 years until his death on April 7, 1993.
Helen is survived by a son, Samuel E. Sukolsky, with whom she lived.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband are brothers Andrew, Joseph, George and John, and a sister, Annie Farkas.
Funeral and burial will be held in Wildwood Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1704 Warren Ave., Williamsport, PA 17701. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Crouseís, 133 E. Third St.

Bertina Margret Royer
Bertina Margret Royer, 72, of Beauty Avenue, Williamsport, died Friday, April 25, 2003, at the Williamsport Hospital. Born Dec. 17, 1930, in Jersey Shore, she was the daughter of the late Burt and Julia (Carr) Good.
She was marriage to Clair I. Royer in 1949.
She was a graduate of Jersey Shore High School. She was employed as a seamstress for Wundies for 20 years.
Bertina was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Ronald L. of Williamsport and Daniel I. (Patricia) of Cogan Station; one daughter, Connie L. (LaVerne) Roupp of Liberty; one granddaughter, Lori Roupp; two grandsons, Mark and Terry Persun; one great-grandson, Tristen Persun; and two sisters, Mary Prince of Ramsey Village and Delores (Floyd) Koch of Linden.
She was preceded in death by five sisters.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, at Allen & Redmond’s, 331 Elmira St., with Pastor Gerald Peet of Steam Valley Bible Church officiating. Friends and relatives may call Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be at Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.

Caroline Rodessa Opp
Caroline Rodessa Opp, 74, of 1431 Oakes Ave., Loyalsock Twp., died Thursday, April 24, 2003, at Valley View Nursing Center. Born June 20, 1928, the daughter of Phillip and Hazel Opp, she lived most of her life in the Muncy area.
She was a member of the Northway Presbyterian Church.
She enjoyed sewing, garage sales, visiting all her friends and she loved doing for her nephews, nieces and friends.
Surviving are two sisters, Finley (Clair) Stahl and Irene (Wilbur) Baskin, both of Muncy; three nieces; three nephews and a sister-in-law, Nancy McCarty.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Edward L. McCarty; and a nephew, Robert Tobias.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Northway Presbyterian Church, 1520 Northway Road, Williamsport, with her pastor, the Rev. Christine Woods-Henderson, officiating. Burial will be in the Muncy Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the church.
Arrangements are being handled by Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville.
