Luella E. Ulmer
Luella E. Ulmer, 78, of 1460 Route 654 Highway, Williamsport, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, in Valley View Nursing Center. She was the widow of Charles A. Ulmer, Sr., who died Feb. 2, 1994.
Born March 20, 1923, in Williamsport, Luella was a daughter of William and Lulu Jones Bassett. She was a member of Garden View Church of Christ.
Surviving are a son, Charles A. Ulmer, Jr., of city; a daughter, Judith A. White of Montoursville; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four siblings.
The funeral and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorials be made to the building fund of her church, 1941 Princeton Ave., Williamsport, PA 17701.

Olive J. Willis
Olive J. Grassfield Willis, 86, of Covington, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at the Soldiers and Sailors Hospital, Wellsboro.
She was born Nov. 21, 1935, in Middletown, NY, the daughter of John and Edna Grassfield.
Olive was formerly employed as a postmistress for over 30 years at the Covington Post Office. She was a member of the Covington Baptist Church.
Olive was a member of the Brookland Hunting & Fishing Club and was involved in political activities for the Democratic party.
She loved her Lord and was very devoted to her husband and family.
Olive is survived by her son, John (Joy) Willis of San Antonio, TX; a daughter, Jane (Roland) Golder of Dover; a grandson, John Paul Willis of Corpus Christi, TX and many friends and family in the Covington area.
She was predeceased by her husband, Paul R. Willis in 1977 and a grandson, Scott Willis Golder in 1983.
Friends are invited to call at the Scureman Funeral Home, Inc., 130 S. Main St., Mansfield, on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, from 4-6 p.m. and on Monday from 12 noon-1 p.m. The funeral service will immediately follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Ted Rood, pastor of Covington Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Mansfield.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Olive’s favorite charity, the American Cancer Society, 1948 East Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701.

Mildred Wright
Mildred Wright, 82, formerly of Nisbet Heights, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Manor Care North. Her husband, Milton S. "Lefty" Wright, died Dec. 27, 1990. She was born Aug. 15, 1919, in Jersey City, NJ.
Surviving are sons Richard G. of Williamsport and Christopher C. of Succasunna, NJ; brothers Alfred Yates of WA, Charles Yates of FL and John Yates of CA; sisters Charlotte Smith and Eleanor Boyd of NJ, Grace Austin of FL and Evelyn Scmitt of NY; grandchildren Shawn Wright, Richele Griffith, Christine Umbenhaver, Robin Evans, Michelle Wright, Lynette DeStafno, Eric Beck and Steven Beck and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Ave., with Sister Celine Smith officiating. Visitation 10-11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment in Twin Hills Memorial Park.

Harold L. Yonker
Harold L. Yonker, 79, formerly of Warrensville, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, in the Williamsport Hospital. He and his wife, the former Louise A. D’Esposito, would have observed their 56th wedding anniversary on Feb. 3
Born March 3, 1922, in Daguscahonda, he was the son of the late James and Elizabeth Wright Yonker. He worked for two years with the Civilian Conservation Corp. Harold served in the U.S. Navy 38th squadron as a gunner’s mate on a PT boat and was a veteran of WWII.
He was an accomplished carpenter and builder. He loved being in the outdoors and was an avid hunter.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Judith (Mrs. Paul) Rice of Montoursville and Justine (Mrs. Michael) Tedesco of Williamsport; two grandchildren, Philip Rice and Lorin Cooper; a brother, Paul Yonker of Daguscahonda and two sisters, Pearl (Mrs. George) Pearson of Johnstown and Mabel (Mrs. Eugene) Williamson, also of Daguscahonda.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Yonker and four sisters, Ruth Gorton, Alice Staff, Margaret Scott and Hazel Rollick.
Arrangements were made at the Meehan-Shilk Funeral Home of Ridgway.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at St. Leo’s Catholic Church of Ridgway, with Msgr. Joseph Bobal officiating. Committal was in the parish Cemetery.
Military honors were accorded by the Ridgway Servicemen’s Burial Detail.

VirgilAnderson
Virgil "V.J." Anderson, 55, of Ralston, died February 1, 2002, in a motor vehicle accident.
Surviving are his children, Jacqueline Lentz, Patricia Burkman, Kourtney Meuse and Virgil Anderson; 2 grandchildren; 5 sisters and 2 brothers.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m., Monday, at the Pennsdale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed in Virgil’s memory to, P.O. Box 83, Ralston, Pa., 17763. Arrangements are in the care of Pepper’s, Canton.

Kenneth W. Catherman
Kenneth W. Catherman, 88, New Columbia, died Feb. 1, 2002 at his home. Born Oct. 31, 1913, he was a son of Merrill & Maude (Erb) Catherman. He & his wife, the former, Mary H. Temple, were marriage on March 27, 1937. Surviving in addition to his wife, are 1 daughter, 4 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 1 brother & 2 sisters. Funeral services, 2 p.m. Monday, Cronrath’s, 208 Main St., Watsontown. Visitation 1 to 2 p.m. Monday.

Elizabeth Darden
Elizabeth Darden, 98, of Walnut Street, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002 at Manor Care South, Williamsport.
She was born in Douglas, Georgia, Aug. 23, 1903, a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Barbara Ellen Hudson. She was the widow of Lee Darden.
She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, titled "Mother of the Church". She was church clerk; past president and treasurer of OME club; past treasurer of the Sunday school and Missionary; former member of Church Women United. She was past president and a life member of the former Bethune Douglas Community Center.
She is survived by one daughter, Rosemary Trice of Philadelphia; four grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Emma Ward and Esther Jackson, both of Pottstown.
She was preceded in death by four brothers.
Visitors may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 527 Park Ave., Williamsport. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, by the Rev. Charles Daniels. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport.
Arrangements are being handled by the Allen & Redmond Funeral Home, 331 Elmira St., Williamsport.

Alberta K. Gordner
Alberta K. Gordner, 77, of 1325 Clyde Road, Unityville, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002 at the Geisinger Medical Center.
Born June 29, 1924 in Iola, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Elias and Eva Temple Watts. She lived at her present address for more than 50 years and worked at Hanover in Bloomsburg for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Gordner July 12, 1965.
She is survived by 5 sons, Richard W. Watts, Bloomsburg, Larry E. Gordner, Muncy Valley, William H. Green, Unityville, David L. Gordner, Muncy Valley, and Lonnie L. Gordner, Unityville; a stepson, Gilbert E. Gordner, Turbotville; stepdaughter, Dorothy Keller, Hughesville; 20 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; and a sister, Viola Temple, N.Y.
Services will be at 11 am. Wednesday at the Poust-Bunnell Funeral Home, Main St., Millville. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service.
