GALETON - Robert Douglas Jr., 74, of this borough, died Friday, June 16, 2000, at home. Born May 20, 1926, in West Branch, he was a son of Robert and Verda Hinkley Douglas. He and his wife, the former Irene Shelley, were married 54 years on Jan. 17. He retired from Sunnydale Farms Inc. here. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Raymond Richar Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, here and Carl E. Hyde Post, American Legion, Ulysses. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Terry of Johnstown; a daughter, Judy Parish of Gaines; three grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Duane and Clark. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Collins-Olney’s, 14 West St., with the Rev. William R. Lusk officiating. Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery here. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday.

Loretta M. Engel
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Lortta M. Engel, 94, who died Friday, June 16, 2000, at her residence at 702 West Mountain Ave., South Williamsport, at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, South Williamsport, by the Rev. Francis L. Pauselli, as Celebrant. Her husband, Andrew Engel, died Jan. 28, 1953. Born July 21, 1905 in Lucinda, she was a daughter of Anthony Bauer and Mary M. Grolemund. Surviving are two daughters, Celestine Ripka of DuBoistown and Dolores Huyck Bigger of Cogan Station; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Thomas E. on Feb. 20, 1998, and by twin brothers, Sylvester and Ralph Bauer. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call at Noll’s, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport, from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Frank F. Hanobic
RENOVO – Frank F. “Henry” Hanobic, 84, of 618 St. Clair Ave. died Saturday, June 17, 2000, at Bucktail Medical Center. He was a conductor for the Pennsylvania Railroad and Conrail from 1941 until his retirement on Jan. 2, 1979. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He served in the Air Force from July 22, 1941 to Oct. 13, 1945. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Train Men and was an active member of the Clinton County Democratic Committee. He was an avid and accomplished fisherman. He and his wife, the former Phyllis Marie Forbes, were married April 13, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas. Born Nov. 18, 1915, in Drurys Run, he was a son of Adam and Mary Matti Hanobic. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Francis F. “Jack Jr.,” of this borough; a daughter, Mary Ann Richardson of Montgomery; two brothers, John of Cleveland, Ohio and Michael of this borough; a sister, Helen Daywalt of South Renovo and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Dzurnak and Mary Null and a brother, George. A Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Donald Boslett officiating. Burial will be in the church Cemetery, Hyner. Friends may call at Maxwell’s, 205 Fifth St., from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, with a vigil at 7:30.

Robert M. Hill
JERSEY SHORE - Robert M. (Sonny) Hill, 73, of 455 S. Broad St., died Friday, June 16, 2000, at home. He and his wife, the former Louise L. Brown, would have observed their 48th wedding anniversary Tuesday. He retired from Alcan Cable in Williamsport. He was a member of First United Methodist Church here. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Born here Sept. 22, 1926, he was a son of Clarence and Ruby Myers Hill. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Larry C. of Jersey Shore; a daughter, Linda L. Kanouff of Avis; a brother, Paul of Lorida, Fla.; a sister, Margaret Hensler of Hope Sound, Fla.; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Welker’s, 125 N. Main St., with Alan Brown officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Lock Haven. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Mary S. Hertel
Mary S. Hertel, 71, of 704 Brooks Ave., died Friday, June 16, 2000, in the Williamsport Hospital. She and her husband, John C. Hertel, observed their 53 wedding anniversary May 21. Hertel was a housewife and retired from the former GTE Sylvania in Montoursville. She enjoyed landscaping, gardening and home decorating. Born in Williamsport, July 16, 1928, she was the daughter of Leonard and Francesa Rizzo. Surving, besides her husband, are two sons, John C., Jr. and Steven H., both of Williamsport; a daughter Sandra L. Redding of Littlestown; two brothers, Carman Rizzo and Jack Rizzo, both of New Jersey; four sisters Phyllis Falsone and Angie Bellotti both of Philadelphia, Frances Beaver of Montoursville and Josephine Weber of Williamsport; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and three great grandsons. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Crouse’s, 133 E. Third St. Msgr. Francis J. Castellano, pastor at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, will officiate. Friends may call Crouse’s Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will be at Twin Hills Memorial Park in Fairfield Township.

B. Estella Rohe
JERSEY SHORE - B. Estella Rohe, 99, formerly of Chad Gardens, died Saturday, June 17, 2000, in Valley View Nursing Center. Her husband, William D. Rohe Sr., died in 1969. She was a member of First Baptist Church here. She was a member of Ivanhoe Chapter 28, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Order of Amaranth. She was a Red Cross Bloodmobile volunteer for many years. Born here Dec. 26, 1900, she was a daughter of John and Cordelia Bardo Gamble. Surviving are three sons, William D. Jr. of Mount Pleasant, S.C., Richard L. of Montoursville and George G. of Jersey Shore; two daughters, Mary Ellen Schach of Altoona and E. June DeArmitt of Jersey Shore; a sister, Adda Keiler of Woolrich; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Richard L. Rohe Jr. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Welker’s, 125 N. Main St., with the Rev. Larry A. Lefeber, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Jersey Shore Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Lyle E. Wonderlich
Lyle E. Wonderlich, 68, of 379 Gearhart Lane, died Friday, June 16, 2000, at the Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. His wife, the former Jean L. Bennet, died April 25, 1997. He worked as a truck driver for Allied Moving and Stroehman’s Bakery. He was an Army veteran, and a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He was born May 15, 1932 in Nebraska. Surviving are several neices and nephews. There will be a graveside service at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, at Twin Hills Memorial Park with the Reverend Doctor Dennis L. Otto, pastor of First United Methodist Church. There will be no visitation, and the family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave.

Margaret F. Baker
Margaret F. “Peggy” Baker, 73, of 81 Round Hill Road, died Sunday, June 18, 2000, at her home following a short illness. Her husband of 47 years, Paul E. Baker, died July 17, 1993. She retired from Litton Industries and was a member of the Litton’s ‘Quarter Century Club.’ She was a member of the Church of the Ascension She enjoyed cross-country trips to Colorado. Born Feb. 1, 1927, in this city, she was a daughter of Louis M. and EmmaRoy Heilhecher Yerger. Surviving are a daughter, Paulette Murray of Fort Collins, Colo.; a brother, Louis Heilhecher Jr. of Linden; a sister, Alice Yerger of Lake Worth, Texas; four grandchildren, Barry C. Miller Jr., Stephanie M. Miller, both of this city, and Melissa Miller Thomas of Loveland, Colo. and Rebekah L. Miller of Fort Collins, Colo.; nine great-grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, 2111 Linn St., with the Rev. Charles J. Cummings, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St.

Dorothy Bower
HUGHESVILLE – Dorothy Bower, 76, of 75 Peterman Lane died Saturday, June 17, 2000, at the Williamsport Hospital. She and her husband, Lloyd, were married five years. Her first husband, Leroy Bowersox, died Aug. 16, 1966. She had worked at the former Montgomery Mills. She was a member of the American Legion, Sonestown, Post 601 ladies auxiliary and the Muncy Senior Citizens. Born March 10, 1924, in Washingtonville, she was a daughter of Benjamin and Carrie Emma Cooper Leighow. Surviving, besides her husband, are two sons, Kenneth Bowersox of Montgomery and David Bowersox of Minioli, Fla.; three daughters, Mary Phillips of Unityville, Pauline Gavitt of Muncy Valley and Edith Bowersox of Williamsport; one brother, Kenneth Leighow of Millville; a sister, Anna Moser of Muncy; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Glidewell; three brothers, Myron, Marvin and Harold Leighow; and a grandson, David Bowersox. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., with the Rev. Karen B. Allen, pastor of the Valley United Methodist Church, Muncy Valley, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Middleburg. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mary Ellen Coburn
MUNCY - Mary Ellen Coburn, 84, of 310 S. Washington St. died Friday, June 16, 2000, at the Manor Care North Health Services, Williamsport. She was the widow of John Coburn. She was a member of Muncy Presbyterian Church. She was a 1934 graduate of Muncy High School. She was a daughter of William W. and Edna L. Spitler Welsh. There are no immediate survivors. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wallis-Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., with the Rev. F. Leon Morgan, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Muncy Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Helen L. Hurst
EAGLES MERE – Helen L. Hurst, 58, a borough native, died Saturday, June 17, 2000, in Williamsport Hospital. She and her husband, Raymond H. Hurst, observed 40 years of marriage Feb.21. She was a homemaker and attended schools here. Born July 16, 1941, she was a daughter of George and Martha Davis Little. Surviving are a son, Bryan of Berwick; three daughters, Penny Rinker of Hillsgrove, Bonnie Hurst of Muncy Valley and Connie Hipps of this borough; three sisters, Betty Sharp of Pensacola, Fla., Leah Mae Reichman of Delaware and Catherine Carpenter of Shunk; 12 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by a daughter, Dronda Lee, and a sister, Patricia Little. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., with the Rev. Matthew Pickering, pastor of the Lincoln Falls Wesleyan Church, Lincoln Falls, officiating. Burial will be in Eagles Mere Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Elmer Sidney Bowers
Elmer Sidney Bowers, 58, of 2105 Caracas St., Tampa, Fla., formerly of Hughesville, died Monday, June 19, 2000, at home. He enjoyed working on cars. An Army veteran, he served in allied occupied Germany. He was a 1960 graduate of Hughesville High School. Born May 10, 1942, in Chester, he was a son of Albion and Blanche Derr Bowers. Surviving are three sons, Sidney and Jeffrey, both of Unityville and Dennis of Hughesville; a brother, Albion P. Jr. of Helendale, Calif.; a sister Doris B. Sullivan of Hughesville; and four grandchildren. Local services will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville.

Helen M. Day
Helen M. Day, 81, of Lamar died Monday, June 19, 2000, in the Lock Haven Hospital Emergency Room. Her husband, Ralph R. Day, died Jan. 10. Shewas known locally for her painting and pressed flower craft. She was a charter member of George Eddinger art class that met in Lock Haven for more than 20 years, presenting many group shows. She had a one-man show in 1966 at Ross Library and later that year an invitational show at South Plains College, Levelland, Texas. A collection of her paintings is displayed at Yost-Gedon’s Funeral Home, Lock Haven. She attended Castanea School, Penn School, Lock Haven and Lock Haven High School and received her G.E.D. in 1969. She was a member of Church of Christ, Nittany. Born Oct. 23, 1918, in Castanea, she was a daughter of Harry C. and Matilda Smith Lyons. Surviving are a daughter, Linda J. of Lock Haven; a son, John “Jack” of Fredricksburg, Md.; a brother, Gordon C. Lyons of Lamar; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Capt. Richard W.; three sisters, Pauline Scheid, Dorothy Kreidler and Lila Koch; and three brothers,Francis W., Harry C. and Ralph L. Lyons. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Wetzler’s, 320 Main St., Mill Hall, with Clyde Moore officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park. Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday.

Lynn M. Foust
HUGHESVILLE - Lynn M. Foust, 92, of 46 N. Third St. died Sunday, June 18, 2000, in the skilled nursing unit of Muncy Valley Hospital. His wife, the former Sylvia G. Kern, died Aug. 5, 1984. He was a loom operator for the former Warshaw Silk Mill, Montgomery, and had been a lumberjack, picture framer and cook. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Hughesville. Born Dec. 1, 1907, in Nordmont, he was a son of Fredrick and Agnes Fritz Foust. Surviving are a brother, F. Bernard of Hughesville; three grandchildren, Jefferey and Roger Webster and Patricia Gold; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marjorie Webster. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., with the Rev. Henry Gable, chaplain-Highlands, officiating. Burial will be in Cherry Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday.
