Flowers
Dorothy A. Flowers, 61, of Cranberry Township died on Jan. 14 [2003] at UPMC Passavant Cranberry after a battle with cancer. Born in Pittsburgh on Feb. 24, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Dor-othy McElhaney Nichols. She had been a school bus driver for the North Allegheny School District and was a member of the Victory Christian Fellowship Church in Cranberry Township, where she was a volunteer and bus driver. Flowers was also a member of the Rose Chapter #188, Order of Eastern Star, North Hills. She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Flowers, whom she married on Feb. 13, 1964, and who died on June 4, 1999. Surviving are two daughters, Tammy Flowers of Harmony and Michele Flowers of Raleigh, N.C.; four brothers, Theodore Nichols of Gibsonia, John Nichols of Pittsburgh, Richard Nichols of Cranberry Township, and Ronald Nichols of Evans City; and nieces and nephews. There was no visitation. A memorial service was held in Victory Christian Fellowship Church, with the Rev. John Nuzzo, pastor, officiating. Memorials may be made to the church or to the American Cancer Society.

Schorr
Harold I. Schorr, husband of Shirley Rose Schorr, died on Feb. 21 [2003]. Schoorr was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Schorr and an aunt, Fannie Harris. Surviving are three children, Dr. Neal Schorr of Wexford, Bruce Schorr of Mt. Lebanon and Linda Nymand of Upper St. Claire; a sister, Sylvia Berger; five grandchildren, Scott Schorr, Kevin Schorr, Nicole Nyman, Steven Schorr and Brett Nyman; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held at the Temple Emanuel of South Hills in Mt. Lebanon on Sunday, Feb. 23. Interment was in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. Yingling
Francies D. Hunter Yingling, 86, of Passavant Retirement Center in Zelienople, formerly of Bradford Woods, died Feb. 23 [2003], after an illness. Born in Pittsburgh on Jan. 5, 1917, daughter of the late James and Marybelle Davis Hunter she was a homemaker, and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of North Park. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Yingling, whom she married on Oct. 19, 1963, and who died on Dec. 18, 1985; as well as by a brother, James C. Hunter. Surviving are a daughter, Janet Huggins of Naples, Fla.; a stepson, James C. Yingling of Wexford; a stepdaughter, Helen Joyce of Eighty Four; seven grandchildren, Keith and Dale Huggins, Scott Yingling, Maggie McAfee, Jill Manns, David and Amy Joyce; and one great-grandson, Aiden Joyce. Funeral was at McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home in Mars. Burial was in Allegheny County Memorial Park. Arnold
John R. Arnold, 69, of Valencia, died on Dec. 30 [2003] at his residence after an illness. Born in Pittsburgh on Aug. 26, 1934, he was the son of the late John and Emmeline Davies Arnold. He was a retired welder from Pittsburgh Annealing Box Company. Arnold was a member of North Way Christian Community Church in Wexford; an Army veteran of the Korean War; and was a member of the Mars VFW Post 7505. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Dostlik. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Stoops Arnold, whom he married on Aug. 16, 1958; a son, John E. "Jack" Arnold of Middlesex Township; two daughters, Cheryl "Sherry" Arnold of McCandless and Melanie Smith of Mars; three sisters, Maryann Fetzer of Mars, Beverly J. Magee of Valencia and Linda McCandless of Orlando, Fla.; and five grandchildren. Friends were received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home in Mars. Funeral services were at the home. Magee
James A. "Jim" Magee, 88, a lifelong resident of Valencia, died on Dec. 29 [2003] at UPMC Passavant Hospital in the Town of McCandless. Born in Valencia on April 13, 1915, he was the son of the late David D. and Mary Jane Perry Magee. Magee was a retail lumberman for more than 20 years for T.E. Hohman in Gibsonia and then retired in 1991 from Harvey Lumber in Tarentum. He was a lifelong member and former trustee of Valencia United Presbyterian Church and a lifelong member of the Valencia Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving are his wife, Adeline "Babe" Livingston Magee, whom he married on Aug. 23, 1940; a son, David R. Magee of Valencia; a granddaughter, Bonnie Semler of Saxonburg; two great-granddaughters, Mallory and Madison Semler; a sister, Grace Cashdollar of Mars; and a brother, Perry Magee of Mars. He was preceded in death by an infant brother and two sisters, Sara Magee and Mary Elizabeth Moorman. Friends were received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home in Mars. Funeral services were at Valencia United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Gary Weston officiating. Burial was in Mars Cemetery in Adams Township. Schmiedel
Dorothy M. Schmiedel, 83, of Gibsonia, died on Wednesday, Dec. 31 [2003], after an illness. Born in Pittsburgh on Sept. 20, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Viola Fink McMullen. A homemaker, Schmiedel was a member of St. Killian Roman Catholic Church in Mars. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Schmiedel, Sr., whom she married on Nov. 25, 1940 and who died on March 28, 1997. She was also preceded in death by a brother and sister. Surviving are two daughters, Judith Moses Romah of Jefferson Hills, Pa. and Jeanne Poremski of Ohio; two sons, Harry Schmiedel Jr. of Evans City and Carl Schmiedel of Pine Township; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Friends were received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home in Mars. Burial was in the Allegheny County Memorial Park in McCandless Township.

Corcoran
Robert William Corcoran, 83, died on Jan. 19 [2004], after a battle with lung cancer. Corcoran was born in Pittsburgh and lived most of his adult life in Wexford. He attended St. Francis Xavier grade school and Oliver High School. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 during World War II and served as a Military Policeman with the 80th Division. After the war he married Mary Ellen Herbert in 1947 and they raised their family of nine children in Wexford. He worked for Peter F. Loftus Corp. and Eichleay Corp. as a draftsman until is retirement in 1985. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Church in Wexford where he served as vice president of parish council, chairman of the worship committee and a member of the adult choir since 1948. Corcoran was cubmaster of Troop #344, a member of the 80th Division Veterans Association Post #38, a member of American Legion Post 161, the Knights of Columbus Life Member and has been active in the Cursillo Movement since 1971. He is survived by his nine children, Robert, John, Patrick, Kathleen Gardner, Michael, Mary Ellen Baron, Timothy, Terry Lea Wentz, and Coleen Strohm; 34 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Corcoran was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Ellen (Herbert) Corcoran, parents Patrick and Rose (Heyl) Corcoran, three brothers: Francis, Lawrence and Louis, two sisters Rita and Rose. Friends were received George A. Thoma Funeral Home Inc. in McCandless. Funeral Mass was held at St. Alphonsus Church. Tsorvas
Margaret E. Tsorvas, 80, of Buckingham, Pa., and formerly of Pittsburgh and Cranberry Township, died Jan. 25, 2004, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Langhorne. Born Feb. 25, 1923, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Ruth McConnell Ort. She was the wife of the late George Tsorvas, who died Jan. 10, 1991. She had been employed by Kappel's Jewelry in Pittsburgh as a credit manager. She is survived by a son, James Tsorvas of Gibsonia; two daughters, Marcia Parrish of Washington Crossings and Katherine Cavill of Bettendorf, Iowa; and six grandchildren. Funeral services were Jan. 31 at Glenn-Kildoo Funeral Home and Cremations Services in Cranberry. Burial was in Grandview Cemetery in Florence, Washington County. Boggess
Phyllis A. (Goss) Boggess, 78, a Coraopolis resident since 1950, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 23 [2002], at her home. She was born in Lewistown, Pa., on June 28, 1924, to the late Anthony and Claire (Aurnd) Goss. Mrs. Boggess was a member of the Assembly of God, and a homemaker. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Wilbur R. Boggess; her two children, Charles G. Boggess of Auburn, NY, and Claire A. Tarquinio and her husband David of Center. She was preceded in death by four siblings, Kenneth V., Ray, Helen Irene and Marvin Goss. Funeral arrangements were coordinated by Copeland's Coraopolis, 867 Fifth Avenue, where a service was held with Rev. Wayne Jackson officiating, prior to burial at Coraopolis Cemetery.

Brocco
John Brocco, 86, died on Oct. 22 [2002]. He was born on Jan. 17, 1918, in Bird-In-Hand, Pa. He was a retired machinist with Fisher Control, and a member of St. Margaret Mary Church in Moon. Husband of Katherine (Crivaro) Brocco. Father of Susan Haley, of Stowe. Grandfather of Kathy and William. Also, two great-grandchildren. Friends were received in the Anthony J. Sanvito Funeral Home, 1316 Fourth Avenue, Coraopolis. A Mass of Christian Burial followed the funeral home service at St. Margaret Mary Church. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery, Moon.

Casasanta
Lydia R. Casasanta, 86, of McKees Rocks, died Monday, Oct. 28 [2002]. She is survived by a husband, Frank Summers, of McKees Rocks; five children, Jerry and Marcia Orsini, of Hopewell, Sylvia and Thomas Shuty, of Moon, and Helen Orsini, of Kennedy; two brothers, Oliver and Roland Casasanta, both of Coraopolis; four sisters, Yolanda Roncone and Diane Brasie, both of Coraopolis, Larraine Peppers, of Michigan; Alma Bafile, of Florida, and Dora Casasanta, of Moon. Friends were received at McDermott Funeral Home, 1225 Chartiers Ave., McKees Rocks. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. John of God Parish in St. Mary Church.

DePace
Charlotte 'Chiv' A. (Hobin) DePace, 77, of Bell Acres, died Wednesday, Oct. 30 [2002] at Villa St. Joseph in Baden. She is survived by two daughters, Gemma Jane DePace, of Clarksville, Tenn., and Nancie Kleinhans, of Moon Township; four sons, David S. DePace, of Bell Acres, Dennis A., Daniel C. and Richard D. DePace, all of Sewickley; six granddaughters, Lisa McGraw, Deborah Eirkson, Stefanie Jo Schulmeister, Ashley and Abbie DePace and Vitoria 'Tori' DePace; six grandsons, Robert Jr. and Christopher Kleinhans, David S. DePace II, Jeffrey Schulmeister, Jonathan and Michael DePace. DePace is also survived by eight grandchildren, Chelsea, Alex and Michael McGraw, Benjamin and Emily Eirkson, Katie and Joseph Kleinhans and Jordan DePace; one sister, Florence Barber; and two brothers, James Shoop and Dale McCutcheon, all of Coraopolis. She was preceded in death by her sister, Florence Barber, and two brothers, Robert Shoop and Hank Hobin, both of Coraopolis. Family and friends attended a memorial service Nov. 2 at St. James Catholic Church in Sewickley. Arrangements were handled by Copeland Funeral Home, Sewickley. Mass was celebrated by Father Al Semler. Interment was private.

Karl
Dorothy N. Karl, 75, of Robinson Township, died Thursday, Oct. 17 [2002], at Ohio Valley Hospital. She was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Mt. Oliver, a daughter of the late Albert and Esther Nolte. Mrs. Karl was a longtime member of Kenmawr United Presbyterian Church where she belonged to the Rebecca Circle women's group. She also volunteered with a local Meals on Wheels program. She had been active with her daughter Gail's Girl Scout troop. She belonged to a craft group at Robin Hill where she enjoyed needlepoint, sewing and other crafts. She also enjoyed time at home cooking. Mrs. Karl is survived by a husband, John G, Karl of Robinson; a son, Ken, of North Fayette; a daughter, Gail, of Washington, Pa.; and two grandchildren, Jessica Karl and Russell Nekos. Friends were received at Joseph Somma Funeral Home and services were held at Kenmawr United Presbyterian Church.

Kerin
Audrey B. Kerin, 68, of Findlay Township, died Tuesday, Oct. 15 [2002], at home. She was born Dec. 20, 1933, in Crafton, a daughter of the late Joseph G. and Margaret E. Christ. Kerin was a homemaker that enjoyed volunteering in the community. She was a former member of the Moon Run and Fair Hopes Volunteer fire departments' ladies auxiliaries. She was also a member of the Emblem Club of the Fair Hope Elks Lodge. She also enjoyed dancing, rollerskating, playing cards and singing. She is survived by three daughters, Susan Ann Franc, of Robinson, Mary Guzak, of Monaca, and Colleen Kerin, of Coraopolis; three sons, Daniel, of Vero Beach, Fla., Michael, of Fairhope, Ala., and William, of Oakdale; two sisters, Nina Blystone, of Findlay Twp. and Josephine Scott, of Fairhope, Ala.; and one brother, Charles Christ, of Pocatello, Ida. Friends were received at Joseph Somma Funeral Home, Robinson Township, and interment was at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Mihalyi
Leslie Mihalyi, 82, of Allison Park, and formerly of Coraopolis, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at UPMC Passavant. He was born in Coraopolis on Nov. 1, 1919 to the late Paul and Maria (Shziligyi) Mihalyi. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was recipient of European African Middle Eastern service medal with five bronze stars. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post in Madeira Beach, Fla. Mr. Mihalyi is survived by his daughter, Mary Ellen; her husband, James Thompson of Moon Township; and one sister, Rose Toth, of Sarasota, Fla. Copeland's Funeral Home, 867 Fifth Ave., Coraopolis. handled the arrangements. Burial was in Coraopolis Cemetery.

Sambolt
Cecelia (Preininger) Sambold, 90, a life-long resident of Coraopolis, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 16 [2002], at St. Margaret Hospital. She was born in Coraopolis on Aug. 11, 1912, to the late Francis (Frank) and Cecelia (Urban) Preininger. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John J. Sambolt Jr., on March 16, 1998. Mrs. Sambolt was a member of St. Joseph Church and a homemaker. She devoted her entire life to her children, grandchildren and family. She is survived by her five children, John Sambolt and his wife Pearl, of Coraopolis, Marie Aiello, of Moon, Cecelia Eisert and her husband Richard, of Erie, Margaret Hughes and her husband Frank, of New Wilmington, and James Sambolt and his wife Christine, of South Park. Also, 10 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Georgie Hepler; her four sisters, Alfreda Tesla, Elsie Weber, Amelia Mahr and Mathilda Zieger; her three brothers, Frank, Ed and George Preininger. Funeral arrangements were coordinated by Copeland's Coraopolis, 867 Fifth Avenue. Funeral Mass was at St. Joseph Church with Father Malcolm McDonald officiating. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery.

Szost
Henry Szost, 84, a life-long resident of Groveton, passed away on Monday, Oct. 21 [2002], at Mariner Health Care of West Hills. Mr. Szost was born in Groveton on Aug. 29, 1918, to the late Andrew and Sophia (Reczkowski) Szost. Mr. Szost was a member of St. Joseph Church, VFW Post 402, Catholic War Vets and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired in 1981 from Equipment Corp., Groveton, where he had been a supervisor. Mr. Szost is survived by four sisters, Mary C. Uranker, of Groveton, Stephanie Kish, of Coraopolis, Sophia L. Szost, of Groveton, and Catherine Padgett, of Hopewell. He was preceded in death by five sisters and brothers, Stella Stiney, Walter Szost, Helen Bucka, Annette Szost and Robert A. Szost. Visitation was at Copeland's Coraopolis, 867 Fifth Avenue, where a VFW Service was held. Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Joseph Church with Father Malcolm McDonald officating. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors.

Dudek
Sister Mary Helen Anna Dudek, 91, of Coraopolis, died Wednesday, Nov. 6 [2002], from respiratory problems at South Side Hospital. She was born in 1911, in Glassmere, Pa., a daughter of the late Stanislaus and Marianne Kosiba Dudek. Sister Dudek was in her 76th year as a member of the Felician Sisters of Coraopolis. She was a member of St.Mary of Czestochowa Parish in New Kensington, from which she entered the Felician Sisters in 1926. She was invested in the habit of the order in 1927 and made her first profession of vows in 1928. In 1934, she pronounced her final vows as a Felician Sister. A life-long educator, she earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Duquesne University. She spent more than 40 years as a teacher and principal in the Catholic elementary schools of the dioceses in Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Greensburg and Steubenville. In 1971, she was elected as the provincial superior of the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Province of the Felician Sisters in Coraopolis. Upon completion of her term of office, she began a 19-year ministry to the residents of St. Anne Home in Greensburg as receptionist and pastoral care visitor. In 1996, declining health caused her to take up residence in the provincial house. She is survived by a sister, Helen Dudek, of Arnold; a brother, Henry, of Lower Burrell; a sister-in-law, Angela Dudek, of New Kensington, and nephews. Friends were received at Sanvito Funeral Home, 1316 Fourth Ave., Coraopolis. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Joseph Church in Coraopolis. Interment followed at Felician Cemetery in Moon. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Felician Sisters Renovation Fund, 1500 Woodcrest Ave., Coraopolis, or a charity of the donor’s choice

Nam
Chul H. Nam, 78, of Moon Township, died Monday, Nov. 4 [2002], at St. Clair Hospital. He was born March 21, 1924, in Korea, a son of the late Hui Yang and Chong Jun Nam. Mr. Nam was formerly of Indianapolis, Ind., and Michigan. Mr. Nam was a retired security officer for the Korean government. He is survived by his wife, Do H. (Kwang) Nam; four children, Sang Pok Nam, of Virginia Beach, Va., Chong Suk Nam, of Palaceside Park, N.J., Sang Kyu Nam, of Moon Township and Yun Sik Nam, also of Moon; and seven grandchildren. Friends were received at Copeland Funeral Home, 867 Fifth Ave., Coraopolis, were a funeral service was held with Rev. Eun Soo Lee officiating. Burial was in Sewickley Cemetery.

Smolar
Irene Turzai Smolar, 79, formerly of Coraopolis, died Monday, Nov. 4 [2002], at Life Care of Columbia in South Carolina. She was born Sept. 4, 1923, in Coraopolis, a daughter of the late John and Helen Lambert Turzai. Mrs. Smolar and her husband were owners of a grocery store. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and was a Coraopolis High graduate. She is survived by her husband, John B.; a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Donald Burckart, of Blythewood, S.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Emil and John Smolar, of New Brighton; and a granddaughter. Visitation was held at Copeland’s Funeral Home, Coraopolis, Father Malcolm McDonald officiating. Entombment was in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made in her name to American Diabetes Association or a local hospice.

Allen
Ronald V. Allen, 66, of Moon Township, died Sunday, Nov. 17 [2002], at Sewickley Valley Hospital. He was born April 7, 1936, in Carnegie, a son of the late Vaughn and Grace B. Wagner Allen. Allen was a union plumber for 34 years with Local 27, Robinson Township, and retired in 1985. Survivors include: his wife, Mary Ann Powell Allen; four children, Jane Skleton and her husband, Mark, of Hopewell Township, Ronda McElhaney, of Moon Township, Russ Allen and his wife, Diana, of Chippewa, and Darlene Wagner and her husband, Todd, of Cheswick; five grandchildren, Nikki, Taylor, Christopher, Zachary and Cassandra; and one sister, Nancy Crouse, of Georgia. He was preceded in death by one sister, Bonnie Jean Allen, and a brother, Edward Allen. Copeland's Coraopolis handled funeral arrangements with Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Sterling officiating. Burial in Chartiers Cemetery was private.

Cook
Lawrence Dale Cook, 50, of Pittsburgh, died Wednesday, Nov. 20 [2002] in UPMC Shadyside. He was born Nov. 3, 1952, in McKees Rocks, a son of Raymond R. Cook, of Clinton, and the late Phyllis M. Mouck Cook. He worked as a mail clerk for PNC Bank. Survivors include: two sisters, Donna R. Hart and Barbara A. Cook, both of Pittsburgh; and a nephew, Oliver Lane. He was preceded in death by a brother, Terry Lee Cook. Moody Funeral Home, Clinton, handled arrangements. Cremation took place with interment at Hopewell-Hebron Cemetery.

Huff
Frances D. Huff, 63, of Aliquippa, died Sunday, Nov. 17 [2002], at UPMC Aliquippa Hospital. She was born Nov. 25, 1938, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Modesto and Nicoletta Gugliussa Capalbo. Mrs. Huff was an assistant librarian at Robert Morris University for 16 years at the Moon campus. Survivors include: her husband, Russell J. Huff Sr., of Aliquippa; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Russell J. Huff Jr. and his wife, Jane, of Castle Shannon, David M. Huff and his wife, Sharon, of Cleveland, Ohio, Scott E. Huff, of Independence Township, and Erich S. Huff, of Aliquippa; one sister, Mary Ann Manfredi, of McMurray; one brother, Frank J. Capalbo, of Pleasant Hills; and five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Russell J. III, Nichole, Michael and Daniel. She was preceded in death by her sister, Antoinetta Schnorr. Perry K. Miller, Sr., 64, of Moon Township, died Monday, Nov. 18 [2002], at Sewickley Valley Hospital. He was born July 28, 1938, in Barnsville, Ohio, to the late William B. and Anna Stone Miller. Mr. Miller was a U.S. Army veteran during peacetime, and was an avid bowler and golfer. He retired in 1995. He was a physical therapist in the Pittsburgh area for 28 years and was chief physical therapist for 18 years at Sewickley Valley Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ann Cuomo Miller, of Moon; one son, Perry K. Miller Jr., of Moon; one daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Todd Scanlon, of North Fayette; two grandchildren, Brendan and Tyler Scanlon; and in-laws, Josephine Cuomo Norman, of Columbus, Ohio, Frank Jr., Shirley and Joseph Cuomo, all of Follansbee, W.Va. Copeland's Moon Township handled funeral arrangements with Pastor Tim Michaux officiating. Entombment was in Resurrection Cemetery.
