McManus
George J. McManus, 81, of Longwood at Oakmont, formerly of Chatham Village in Pittsburgh, died Jan. 14, 2002. Born Nov. 23, 1920, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of Charles and Florence (Cornell) McManus. Mr. McManus, a Fordham University graduate, was a retired writer for Iron Age publications. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Fox Chapel Racquet Club and Riverforest Golf Club. He also had two books published, "Inside Story of Steel" and "In Defense of Prosperity." In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Maria McManus; four brothers; and two sisters. Surviving are his son, Jeffrey McManus of Wexford and his wife, Marilyn; and two grandchildren. Friends were received at Burket-Truby Funeral Home. A service was at Longwood at Oakmont with the Rev. Steve Heinz officiating. Interment was at Plum Creek Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to American Lung Association.

Copley
James C. Copley, 81, of Sarasota, Fla, formerly of Oakmont and Plum Borough, died Dec. 31, 2001. Born May 25, 1920, in Oakmont, he went to Sarasota in 1980 from Penn Hills. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, he was a retired insurance broker. Mr. Copley was a World War II veteran who earned a Bronze Star. He was a founding member of Bent Tree Country Club, past exalted ruler of Oakmont Elks Lodge 1668 and a member of DAV in Sarasota. He was formerly a volunteer of the Peace Corps in Malawi, Central Africa. Surviving are his wife, Dr. Mary Copley; a daughter, Beth Haines of Bradenton, Fla.; and a son, William Copley of Smyrna, Tenn. Sisters, Jeanne O'Connell and Mary Carson; a brother, Bob Copley; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Arrangements were handled by National Cremation Society of Sarasota. Dreher
William A. Dreher, 84, of Penn Hills died Jan. 19, 2002, at Presbyterian SeniorCare in Oakmont. Born Aug. 12, 1917, in Brecksville, Ohio, he was the son of Roy and Maude (Suttle) Dreher. Mr. Dreher was a chemist for Koppers Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a graduate of Ashland University. He was a member of RCAC Center and served as president of its board, as well as a member of Oakmont AARP,'Verona F&AM Lodge 548 and was active in Boy Scouts. He was a member of American Forestry Association and received its 1987 Farmer of the Year award. Also he was a member of Duquesne Club of Verona and Pittsburgh Council for International Visitors. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Frances (Snook) Dreher; his daughter, Nancy Haft of Oakmont and her husband, Perrin. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Burket-Truby Funeral Home. A service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Stamets
Pauline Stamets, 89, of Verona died Jan. 18, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Hospital. Born Nov. 19, 1912, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Paul and Frances (Foreman) Hagen. Mrs. Stamets was a retired vet assistant with Wertz Memorial in Penn Hills. Surviving are her daughter, Ann Boutcher of Spring Hill, Fla., two grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and her friend, Alice Lowry of Verona. Friends were received at Burket-Truby Funeral Home. Interment was at Lakewood Memorial Gardens, Dorsey-ville.

Kish
Charles A. "Moose" Kish, 86, of Oakmont, formerly of Springdale, died Jan. 16, 2002, at Western Pennsylvania Hospital. Born July 11, 1915, in New Kensington, he was the son of Joseph and Julie (Behary) Kish. Mr. Kish was a retired pipe fitter with PPG Industries and a member of New Kensington Moose. For six years, he had been a resident of Woodside Place, Oakmont. Surviving are his children, Charles Kish of Cheswick, Margaret Angotti of Valrico, Fla., Mary Elizabeth Conrad of Geneva, Ill., Rosemarie Andring of Seffner, Fla., Kathryn Hosaflock of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Violet Bazzano of Springdale; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Perriello. Richard A. "Dickie" Gorman, 63, of Plum Borough died Jan. 21, 2002. Born Dec. 23, 1938, in Carnegie, he was the son of Thomas and Alberta (Whitlach) Gorman. Mr. Gorman was a pipefitter for 35 years with the former Edgewater Steel. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Gorman; his children, Sharon Uddo of Boca Raton, Fla., Scott Gorman of Plum Borough and Richard Gorman of Plum Borough; brothers, Tom and James Gorman; and three grandchildren. Ziringer
Mildred Ziringer, 82, of Longwood at Oakmont died Jan. 17, 2002. Born May 26, 1919, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Fred and Mildred (Thurston) Poole. Mrs. Ziringer was a retired employee of U.S. Steel Koppers Co. Surviving are her husband of 55 years, A.U. "Ad" Ziringer; sons, Robert of Fox Chapel, Fred of Export and David Ziringer of Venetia, Pa.; a sister, Helen Ritenbaugh; and six grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by Burket-Truby Funeral Home. Interment was at Church Hill Cemetery. A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28, at Longwood at Oakmont. Shirley Nolan, 65, of Oakmont died Jan. 17, 2002. Surviving are her mother, Jean Miceli of Oakmont; sons, Jamie of Verona and Richard, Daniel, Randy and Thomas Nolan, all of Oakmont; her daughters, Michele of Oakmont and Tracy Nolan of Natrona Heights; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Fowler
M. Eileen Fowler, 89, of Oakmont died Feb. 21, 2002, at UPMC St. Margaret. Born April 26, 1912, she was the daughter of Jacob and Mary (Fitzgerald) Fowler. She was retired from the accounting department of Kellogg American Co. in Oakmont. Ms. Fowler was a member of St. Irenaeus Catholic Church in Oakmont. Surviving are 14 nieces and nephews. Adeline Boni, 79, of Oakmont died Feb. 18, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Boni Sr. Surviving are her children, Daniel Boni of Churchill and his wife, Patti, and Michael Boni Jr. of Naples, Fla., and his wife, Pam; and two grandchildren, Michele and Ashley Boni. Rizzo
Phillip Rizzo, 85, of East Liberty died Feb. 16, 2001. Born March 2, 1916, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Charles and Mary Conceta Rizzo. Mr. Rizzo was a retired employee in manufacturing at Westinghouse, Turtle Creek. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. Myrle S. Wright, 66, of Oakmont, formerly of Monroeville and Toledo, Ohio, died Feb. 23, 2002. Mrs. Wright was a past matron of Homestead Chapter of Eastern Star and involved with the Rainbow Girls. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Wright. Surviving are her daughters, Maryelle Soell of Oakmont and Barbara Stylslinger of Monroeville; stepchildren, Linda Topel and Jeffrey Wright, both of Toledo, Ohio; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Mary J. Santucci of Stanley, NM, formerly of Oakmont, died Feb. 15, 2002. Jacob V. Flanders, 85, of Verona died March 23, 2002, in UPMC'St. Margaret. Born July 4, 1916, in'Plum, he was retired from the United Mine Workers at Harmar Mine. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Ruth Lanning Flanders; a son, Timothy Flanders of Oakmont; daughters, Joyce Henson of Arnold and Karen Vidra of Verona; eight grandchild; and 12 great-grandchildren. Paraskevi "Friday" Miller, 95, of Oakmont died March 21, 2002. Mrs. Miller was associated with her family-run business Edgewater Restaurant in Oakmont. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Miller. Surviving are her son, Anthony Miller and his wife, Helen, of Oakmont; dear friends, Henrietta and Ray; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Morton
Bessie M. Morton, 100, of Monroeville, formerly of Oakmont, died March 18, 2002, in Amber Glen of Forest Hills. Born Sept. 6, 1901, in Wilmerding, she was the daughter of Joseph Albert and Anna (Pickford) Phillips. She was a member of PAA of Oakland and a former member of Churchill Country Club and Alcoma Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Morton; two brothers; and two sisters. Surviving are her sister, Ellen McCauley; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends were received at John T. Hart Funeral Home. Entombment was at Allegheny Cemetery.

Olszewski
Walter J. "Whitey" Olszewski, 86, of Springdale died March 23, 2002, at West Penn Hospital. Born Nov. 9, 1915, in'East Deer, he was an electrician with 33 years service at Duquesne Light, Cheswick. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Julia (Swatchick) Olszewski formerly of Verona; daughters, Judith Szitas, Terri Hansberry and Diane Dailey; sisters, Mildred Skurja and Constance Olszewski. Surviving are five grandchildren, Brian and Gregory Szitas, Matthew Dailey and Kaylee and Luke Hansberry. Friends wee received at Burket-Truby Funeral Home.

Rupert
Lois B. Rupert, formerly of Verona and Indiana, Pa., died March 20, 2002, in Akron, Ohio. She was a graduate of Penn'State University and Carnegie Mellon University. She taught home economics for several years in the Penn'Hills School District and retired as a home economics education instructor at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She was a past president of PA Home Economics Associa-tion, a lifelong member of Eastern Star and Girl Scouts, Delta Kappa Gamma, PARSE, a volunteer for Reach for Recovery and an active member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in'Indiana, Pa. Surviving are her nieces, Linda Rabatin Cogan of Florida and Elizabeth Rabatin Doney of Ohio; a nephew, Roy Rabatin of Florida. Friends were received at Thomas D.'English Funeral Home. Albert J. Simon, 77, of Verona died March 20, 2002, at Shadyside Hospital. Born in Duquesne, he was the son of Frank and Helen (Bayzath) Simon. Mr. Simon was a retired diesel mechanic with Curnmius Diesel. He was a member of Syria Temple, American Legion, International Operation Engineer Union and DAV, Rosedale Fire Department and Loyal Order of Universal Moose 298. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Black) Simon. Surviving are his children, Donna Ketley and Marilyn Colinear; a sister, Ethel Sadowski; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Friend were received at Findlay C. Wylie Funeral Home. Dolores W. Smith, 74, of Springdale died March 20, 2002 in West Penn Hospital. Born Feb. 24, 1928, in Springdale, she was a former cashier at Giant Eagle Harmar. Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Abraham Smith; sons, Abraham of Valencia; and William Smith of Arnold; daughters, Dolores Stephens and Roberta Madoni; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild and three sisters, Elizabeth Yani, Virginia Bobik and Sister Hilda Prohaska. D'Achille
Ernest D'Achille, 72, of Verona died Sept. 2, 2002, at Forbes Regional Hospital. Born in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Dolly and Richard D'Achille. Mr. D'Achille worked as a district magistrate for eight years before retiring and was the democratic chairman for Penn Hills. He was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War and a member of St. Joseph Church in Verona. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dolly D'Achille. Surviving are daughter, Linda Aliberti; sons, Richard and Ernest D'Achille; sister, Betty D'Achille; and brothers, Domenic and Richard D'Achille; and seven grandchildren. Friends will be received Wednesday (today) and Thursday at 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at St. Joseph Church in Verona. Service will be held at the church on Friday at 12:30 p.m. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Dasta
Mary Rose Dasta, 84, of Verona died Aug. 29, 2002, at Independence Court Nursing Home in Monroeville. Born Dec. 20, 1917 in Verona, she was the daughter of Charles Torchia and Jenny Villela. She was a homemaker and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by daughter Natalie Dasta; sister, Louise Testarella; and brother, Edward Torchia. Surviving are her husband, John Dasta; daughter, Linda Ciccarelli of Monroeville; brother, Albert Torchia; and three grandchildren. Friends were received at Burket-Truby Funeral Home. Service was held at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Father Edwin Wichman officiating. Interment was at St. Joseph Cemetery in Verona. Favo
Nicholas Favo Jr., 94, of Oakmont died Aug. 28, 2002. Born July 10, 1908, he was the son of Nicholas and Mary Johanna Favo. Mr. Favo entered the U.S. Air Force in 1942. He became the postmaster of Oakmont in 1947 and retired in 1972. He was a member of the Edgewood Country Club, Amvets, American Legion and St. Irenaeus Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Favo, Antonette Favo, Rose Favo, Rachel Favo, Anna Favo, Katherine Favo, Amalia Favo and Flora Favo; and brothers, Fred Favo, Anthony Favo, Charles Favo and Ralph Favo. Surviving are brother, Joseph Favo; and many nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the Thomas D. English Funeral Home, Oakmont. Service was held at St. Irenaeus Church. Gunderman
Ethel Gunderman, 93, of Verona, formerly of Pittsburgh, died Aug. 31, 2002, at Concordia Lutheran Home in Cabot. Born May 5, 1909, Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Edward Gunderman and Anna Kemena. She worked for Knight Life Insurance and a member of Christian and Missionary Alliance. Surviving are nephew, Ronald Rankin of Long Island, N.Y.; nieces, Ruth Rankin of Penn Hills, and Viola Airgood of Penn Hills; and great nephews, Wayne and Bruce Airgood. Service was private. Arrangements were made by Burket-Truby Funeral Home. Interment was at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery.

Kichartz
Marguerite Kirchartz, 103, of Lighthouse Point, Fla., formerly of Penn Hills, died Aug. 27, 2002 at Holy Cross Hospital in Florida. Born on Feb. 13, 1899 in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Charles and Sophia Standard Kleinman. During the Franklin D. Roosevelt presidential campaign, Mrs. Kirchartz was vice chairwoman of the democratic committee in Penn Hills and the old 10th legislative district organization. From 1947 to 1954, she was elected vice chairwoman of the Allegheny County Democratic Committee and an alternate delegate to the 1948 national democratic convention held in Philadelphia that nominated Harry S. Truman as the Democrat presidential candidate. She was a charter member of St. Bartholomew Church in Penn Hills, a member of St. Paul's The Apostle Church in Lighthouse Point, Fla., and a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary No. 706 of Penn Hills, serving as president and active member in the service bureau. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Kirchartz Sr.; and son, James Kirchartz Jr. Surviving are daughters, Marguerite Daily of Florida, Jean Earley of Florida, and Ileen Lounsbury of Falconer, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Friends were received at St. Bartholomew Church. Service was held at St. Bartholomew Church. Interment was at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
