She was a resident of New Seasons Assisted Living in New Britain, PA for almost three years and finally lived at the Brairleaf Nursing Home in Doylestown, PA. She was 60 years old. Althrough sickly as a child, Mary developed a sunny disposition and zest for her life. She had a warm and generous heart and would do anything for her friends and family. She battled congenital heart disease all of her life and it was mostly due to the wonderful care she received from her mother and her cousin, Nancy Bulera, that she survived to live such a long, happy and productive life. When her parents were alive, the family took many camping trips across the United States and to the Absegami Camp Ground in New Jersey. After her dad passed away, Mary traveled with her mother to Germany, Bermuda, California and Florida and took many trips with the Calvary Senior group. Mary was passionate about horses and owned her own, Wrangler, in her twenties. Together they rode the trails in Pennypack Woods and participated in many horse shows. She attended the Devon Horse Show every year for twenty years and took riding lessons well into her 50's. Her other love was her two cats, Cindy, and Misty, which she obtained after her mother's death, to keep her company. She had the cats for 10 years until her health declined to the point that she could not care for them anymore. She sent them to live with her Aunt and Uncle, Dolly and Andrew Morgen, in LaQuinta, California. Her cats are now "California Girls". Mary loved taking care of her nieces, Shannon and Karen Stoner, when they were young. They spent many happy weekends together, especially in the summer at the Somerton Pool in Bustleton. Mary worked for the PA State Hospital System in the laundry, first at Byberry on the Roosevelt Blvd. and then for Norristown State Hospital. She retired from the State in July of 1996 after working for 30 years. In her retirement, she worked part-time forthe Sowers Group, doing Janitorial work. She enjoyed her retirement for several years, traveling to different diners and restarurants with her friend Susan Tonkin. Mary loved to eat and to watch cooking shows. Food was her thing and she enjoyed all kinds. Mary also loved parties and social gatherings and was always ready to go out. Late in life, she met a special friend, Nancy Puhl of Jenkintown. They shared a love of foods of all kinds and together they sampled the fare at many local exotic eateries. They also spent many hours in Nancy's kitchen cooking up goodies. Nancy and Mary toured New England, took day trips to the Jersey Shore, took Nancy's adopted greyhounds for walks in many local parks and generally had a wonderfu; time together. One summer, they took a horse-back riding class together in the Peace Valley Park area. Nancy's family also welcomed Mary with warm and loving hearts and invited her to many family gatherings. Mary was active in her churches and sang in the choirs at the Mayfair Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia and more recently with the Chalfont Methodist Church. Mary is survived by her brother John Stoner of Philadelphia, his wife Theresa and their two daughters, Shannon and Karen and by her cousin, best friend and surrogate sister, Nancy Bulera of Chalfont.
