Obituary: Grace T. Cowher, 94, passed away on Nov. 11 at the Windy Hill Village of the Presbyterian Homes in Philipsburg. She was the daughter of the late Job and Rebecca (Muir) Treasure and the wife of the late Karl S. Cowher. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Philipsburg, formerly a sales clerk with W.T. Grant Co. in Philipsburg for 20 years. She was also the former manager of the Sears Catalog Store in Philipsburg and was employed as a secretary at the Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School. She was later employed as a secretary in Old Main at Penn State University until retiring. She was a graduate of Philipsburg High School and had attended Penn State. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Zelma Cowher, Alice Henry, Bessie Cassidy and Esther Evans and brother William Treasure. She was survived by son Joel T. Cowher and his wife Helen M. of Philipsburg. She was the last of her generation. She was also survived by granddaughter Carla J. Cowher of Philipsburg. Graveside services will be held on Nov. 19 at 3 p.m. at the Philipsburg Cemetery with the Rev. Brenda K. Leigey officiating. Burial will be at the Philipsburg cemetery. There will be no public visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 Spruce St. Philipsburg. Obituary: Camden B. “Butch” Frantz, Jr., age 55, of West Main Street, Sykesville, died Saturday, November 17, 2007 at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Montefiore, Pittsburgh, PA. Born March 14, 1952 in DuBois, he was a son of Camden B. Frantz, Sr. and Doris (Johnson) Frantz. He was preceded in death by his father and his mother survives and lives in Sykesville. He had worked with his father in their family owned auto repair business. In addition to his mother he is also survived by one sister Mrs. Jerry (Linda) Lauver of Reynoldsville. He was preceded in death by his father. There will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 2, 2007 at 2PM from the Troutville United Church of Christ with Pastor Barry Fillman officiating. Born on October 14, 1985 she was the daughter of Michael S. Weber, Sr. of Sykesville and Susan M. (Becherer) Weber of DuBois. She was a member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Sykesville and enjoyed horseback riding. In addition to her parents she is also survived by two brothers: Anthony Weber of Shippensburg, PA and Michael Weber, Jr. of San Diego, CA; two sisters: Angela Weber of Pittsburgh and Lilly Grace Weber of DuBois and her paternal grandfather John “Jack” Weber of Sykesville. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents; one uncle (Frank Becherer,III) and her paternal grandmother. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 23, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home. The Rosary will be prayed on Friday at 3:30 PM from the funeral home. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held on Friday, at 8:30 PM from the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Saturday, November 24th at 10 AM at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Mark Mastrian as celebrant. Obituary: Sol E. Novey, 77 of Clearfield died on Thursday, November 22, 2007 at Clearfield Hospital. He was born on March 29, 1930 in Clearfield, a son of the late Abe and Ida (Zuskin)Novey. Mr. Novey owned and operated Novey Recycling for over 50 years. He was a member of Temple Beth Shalom, Clearfield, the Clearfield Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #540 and the S. N. O. B. S. He served for many years on the Lawrence Township Planning Commission and was a former member of B'nai B'rith. He was also a member of the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post #6 and the Clearfield Veterans of Foreign Wars F. Michael Sicks Post #1785 A veteran of the US Army, he served during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife, Gladys (Marcus) Novey, whom he wed October 23, 1962 in Washington, DC, two children, Dr. Martin Novey of Reisterstown, MD, Alane Novey Seidel and husband Gary of Ellicott City, MD, two step-grandsons, Scott and Taylor Seidel, two sisters and a brother, Sara Brozgal of Ambler, Frieda Gaines and husband Buddy of Silver Spring, MD and Rubin Novey and wife Pearl of Tallahassee, FL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Marsha Karen Novey, an infant son, a brother Harry Novey and an infant sister. Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A. Obituary: Minnie Test, 94, a guest of Ridgeview Elder Care and formerly of Bailey Road Curwensville, passed away Monday December 3, 2007 at the Clearfield Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born July 10, 1913 in Red Ash, WV, she was the daughter of William F. and Mary (Showers) Ellis. Mrs. Test was a seamstress having worked for the former Sheertex Hosiery Mill and former Macgregor Sportswear both in Curwensville. She also did crocheting for various businesses in the area. She was a member of the Curwensville Presbyterian Church, was a former member and officer of Local 112C Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union and was a member of the Rescue Hose and Ladder Co. Ladies Auxiliary. She wed Lynn Test on October 2, 1937 who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son Joseph Ellis Test, brothers James and Hazel Ellis, a sister Ruth Outlaw and her stepmother Mary (Morrison) Ellis. Surviving are 2 sons John Duane and wife Betty Test and Kenneth Leon and wife Linda Test both of Curwensville, 8 grandchildren Susan Spaid, Joseph “Hutch” Test, Tammy Test, K. Lynn Test, Allen Test, Will E. Test, Scott Test, and David Test, and 3 great grandchildren. She was the last member of her generation. Services for Mrs. Test will be held at the Chester C. He was a member of the Clearfield Beagle Club, the Moosehead Archery Club, and Curwensville L.O.O.M Lodge # 268. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann of 47 years along with 3 children. Donna Bloom and her husband Randy, Philip McGary Jr. and Lisa Ann Bietz and her husband Allen all of Curwensville, 3 grandchildren Brandy Bloom, Holly Bloom, and Joseph Bietz, and 8 brothers and sisters. Born January 26, 1919 in Bloom Township, Clearfield County, she was the daughter of Paul Monroe Hartzfeld and Alice (Bloom) Hartzfeld McKeown. Mrs. Hatten was a homemaker, was a member of the Greenville Church of the Brethren where she was a Sunday School teacher, the GFWC Grampian Women’s Club where she was a former Secretary/Treasurer, the Clearfield County Christian Women’s Club, and the GFWC Clearfield County Women’s Club. She was wed to Andrew Elliot Hatten who preceded her in death on December 1, 2003. Mrs. Hatten was also preceded in death by her parents, 2 sons Daniel Hatten and David Paul Hatten, a grandson Daniel Paul Hatten, a brother Ernest Hartzfeld, and a sister Betty Beck. She was the last member of her generation. Surviving are 2 daughters. Shirley L. Hatten of Roanoke, VA and Alice M. and husband Greg Tobias of Jamestown, NY. Born February 4, 1927 in Punxsutawney, PA she was a daughter of the late Harry and Bonnie (Barnett) Travis. On February 4, 1967 she married Paul Hoffman who preceded her in death in 1976. She then married Stanley Georgek on June 21, 1977. He preceded her in death in 1992. She was a homemaker and enjoyed knitting, flower gardening, reading, and crafts. She was employed by Loree Footwear in Big Run for 6 years. She also, along with her husband Paul, managed the Sykesville Hotel for over 20 years. She is survived by a step-son Timothy Paul Hoffman of Sykesville and Three Grandchildren. In addition to her parents and two husbands she was also preceded in death by one brother John Travis, one sister Helen Ludwig and a step-son Lance Hoffman. Kennedy on May 5, 1956 in Osceola Mills. She survives him. He was a member of the South Philipsburg Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, formerly worked with the maintencance department at the Nittany Lion Golf Course and was later employed with the custodial department at the Philipsburg-Osceola Area School District for 27 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; son William Lee Bryan Jr.; brother Kenneth Bryan and an infant sister, Mary Jane Bryan. He is survived by daughter Darlene Zendek and her companion Lenny Kephart of Philipsburg; sons Larry A. Bryan and his wife Linda of Philipsburg and Robert L. Bryan and his wife Tammy of Houtzdale; sister Ruth Harkless and her husband Andrew of Akron, Ohio; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Winters. She was United Methodist by faith, and was retired from the Harbor Inn in Philipsburg. She was a homemaker and graduated from the former Philipsburg High School, class of 1943. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Leora Willis, Madeline Mayhew, Ethel Scott and Lois Beals, and brothers Clair and Kenneth Stonebraker. She is survived by five grandsons, Doug, Dan, Andrew, Scott and Jeff Winters and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by daughter Kathy Welch and her husband Lem of Houtzdale; sons Donald R. He was a 1960 graduate of the Philipsburg Osceola High School and was the buildings and facilities co-ordinator at Penn State until his retirement. Mr. McLarren was a member of the First Church of Christ in Philipsburg and served in the U.S. Air Force. On June 5, 1965 he wed the former Jane A. Steele who survives at home. He is also survived by a daughter, Deborah L. McChesney and her husband, Jan, of Bellefonte. There will be no public visitation. He was a heavy equipment operator for S&T Contracting in St. Mary’s. Previous to that, he had worked for Cloe Mining in Punxsutawney, PA and D&A Builders in St. Mary’s. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler Fan and enjoyed making doll houses for his 4 granddaughters and enjoyed talking sports and hunting with his grandson. He is survived by his daughter (Mrs. Scott (Candy “Josephine”) DeCarlo of DuBois, PA) a son (Eric J. Robinson of Beulaville, NC) 3 sisters ( Mrs. Walter (Rita) Fisk of Athens, PA; Mrs. David (Judy) Wilkerson of Texas; and Mrs. Charles (Rose) Ellis of Sayre, PA) and 5 grandchildren ( Fawn Guignet; Raven Guignet, Isaiah J. Robinson, Hannah DeCarlo, Sarah DeCarlo). He was preceded in death by his parents, a son (Daniel Michael Robinson) and a sister (Joyce Cox). There will be no public visitation. Obituary: Dale E. Yohe, age 72, of Sykes Street Extension, DuBois, died Saturday, December 29, 2007 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center. Born May 26, 1935 in Henderson Township, Jefferson County, he was a son of the late Frank and Cleone (Hartzfeld) Yohe. He was a veteran having served in the US Army. On April 20, 1957 he married Dolores F. (Kuntz) Yohe who survives. He was a truck driver for 28 years. He also served as an Assistant Chaplin for the I-80 Trucker Traveler Ministry for several years and was very active in the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship. He was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church of DuBois and had served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He enjoyed hunting, traveling and spending time with his family. In addition to his wife he is also survived by two sons: Kevin Yohe of Elkhart, IN and Randy Yohe of Sykesville; one daughter: Mrs. Anthony (Sandee) Lyons of Orlando, FL; five grandchildren; one great grandchild and three brothers: Delbert Yohe of Hermitage, William Yohe of Ceres, NY and LeRoy Yohe of Big Run. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held on Jan. 2, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM from the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home. Mr. Haney is survived by his wife, Jean (Foreman)Haney whom he wed on May 6, 1961; a daughter, Lori Ledford and her husband Shawn of Beaufort, SC; one son, Kevin Haney and his wife Lorie of Osceola Mills; two brothers, Richard Haney and his wife Betty Ann of Munson and Nelson Haney of Polk, PA; and three grandchildren, Brandon Haney, Megan Haney and Gracie Ledford. Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be held in the Umbria Cemetery, Osceola Mills, PA. There will be no public visitation. The family suggest memorial contributions be make to the Clearfield Foundation of Health Hospice, PO Box 992 Clearfield, PA 16830. Obituary: Rex William Neiger, 55, of Shawville, passed away early Tuesday morning, January 1, 2008 at the Clearfield Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born December 2, 1952 in Dover, OH, he was the son of Glenn Neiger and Marilyn (Bitikofer) Newell. Mr. Neiger was working for Walmart as a Maintenance Man and Mechanic. He attended church at the Salvation Army, participated in Leagues at the Clearfield Bowling Lanes and was a U S Army Veteran of Vietnam. On March 15, 1981 in Clearfield he wed the former Tina D. Washburn who survives along with three children. Ronald Neiger of Creston, Ohio, Steven and wife Shannon Neiger of Palmyra, PA, and Jacob Neiger of Shawville. Also surviving are 2 grandchildren Megan and Haylee Neiger and 6 brothers and sisters. Marlynn and husband Jerry Hoffman of New Philadelphia, OH, Glenna Devine of Toledo, OH, John and wife Linda Newell of Mineral City, OH, Dawn and husband Wally Reid of Westfield Center, OH, Eric Neiger of Chippewa Lake, OH, Lisa Neiger of Seville, OH, a brother-in-law Perry Myers of Sugar Creek, OH, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother Betty Neiger and his mother and stepfather John Newell, a sister Jenny Myers and a nephew Michael Hoffman. Services for Mr. Neiger will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Clearfield, on Saturday January 5, 2008 at 11:00 AM, with Major James Fletcher officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday January 4 from 6 to 8 PM, and Saturday from 9 AM until time of services. Military Honors will be accorded at the funeral home by members of the Clearfield American Legion and VFW Joint Honor Guard. She was a member of the LaGrange Bible Church in LaGrange, IL. On June 29, 1946 she wed Herbert John Samuelson, who preceded her in death on September 24, 2007. She was also preceded in death by one grandaughter, Felicia, three brothers, Oscar Jacobson, Wilbert Jacobson, and Carl Jacobson; and six sisters, Agnes Johnson, Hilda Nicholson, Hilma Nelson, Edla Fischer, Ellen Jennings and Anna Jacobson. She was the last of her generation. She is survivived by two daughters, Christine Bormann and her husband Russell of Cleveland, TN; Mary Ellen Van Winkle and her husband James of Wheaton, IL; one son, David T. Samuelson and his wife Janice of Brighton, MI; and nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date with the Reverend David W. Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the Lanse Evangelical Free Church Cemetery, Lanse. There will be no public visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. She was the wife of the late William David Spotts. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Philipsburg, a member of the Aster Rebekah Lodge 117 in Allport, a former member of the Amaranth and a charter member of the National Association of Hikers and Campers, and she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, camping and traveling. She was employed as a licensed practical nurse at Centre Community Hospital for 20 years until she retired. She was a 1932 graduate of Woodward Township High School and earned her LPN degree through Bellefonte Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son William Howard Clark and two brothers, Luther and Carl Mays. She is survived by daughter Susan A. Lewis and her husband Robert M. of Seminole, Fla.; sons John David Spotts and his wife Carol M. of Philipsburg; and brother Ward Mays and his wife ary of Ramey. She is also survived by four grandchildren, William V. and Steven M. Spotts, both of State College, Nancy Hutton and her husband Greg of Sacremento, Cal., and Yvonne C. Spotts of Forest Hills, New York; and four great-grandchildren, Connor and Alyssandra Hutton of Sacremento, Cal.; Lance Spotts of Coatsville; and Connor Spotts of State College. Services will be Jan. 5 at 11 a.m. at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 Spruce St., Philipsburg and will be officiated by the Rev. Brenda K. Leigey. Burial will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery.
