Mary E. Gingrich
Halifax - Mary Elizabeth Gingrich, 94, formerly of 100 North Fifth St., died Wednesday, Dec. 18 at Sarah Todd Nursing Home in Carlisle.
Born in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of Frank R. and Lottie Lehr Schott and was the widow of Clair Newton Gingrich.
She was a homemaker and a member of Matamoras Community Church in Halifax; Order of the Amaranth No. 134, Millersburg Chapter; and Millersburg Senior Citizens.
Surviving are two sons, Harold of York and David of New Cumberland; a daughter, Millicent Laudenslager of Halifax; a sister, Catherine Cramer of Harrisburg; 15 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Reinhard Funeral Home. Friends are invited to call from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the funeral. Also, the Order of the Amaranth will conduct a memorial service prior to the funeral. Burial will be in the Jacob's Church Cemetery.

Jackie May
Lavelle - Jackie May, 71, of 318 Main St., died Sunday, Dec. 22 at the Ashland Regional Medical Center in Fountain Springs.
Born in Helfenstein, he was a son of the late Winfield and Minnie Weikel May.
He was educated in the Lavelle area schools. He was a coal miner for 25 years then was employed by the Department of Environmental Resources in Harrisburg until retirement.
He was of the Protestant faith and a member of the American Legion Post No. 945 at Wormleysburg. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served as a medic in the U.S. Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Sally Thomas, Alberta Hummel and Nancy Hubler; and five brothers, Harry, Henry, Lester, Robert and Charles May.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Yvonne L. Schlorff May; two sons, Leroy L. of Ashland and Gary R. of Upper Marlboro, Md.; a daughter, Cindy L. May of Lavelle; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Dec. 27 at the Church of the Nazarene in Lavelle. Burial was in the Sunnyside Memorial Cemetery.

Millersburg - Ethel E. Bradenbaugh, 92, of 277 Union St., died Wednesday, Dec. 18 at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill.
Born in Millersburg, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth Mattis Bradenbaugh.
She was a graduate of Millersburg High School and Shippensburg University and was a retired librarian from Edison Junior High School in the Harrisburg school district.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Millersburg; Daughters of the American Revolution; Millersburg Ferryboat Association; PSEA; and PASR; and a charter member of Millersburg and Upper Paxton Twp. Historical Society; and Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art.
Surviving are cousins.
Funeral services were held Dec. 27 at Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc. in Millersburg. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

She was a retired employee from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry and a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Penbrook.
Surviving are her husband, Clair E. Romberger; two daughters, Jeanne Romberger and Beverly D'Angelo, both of Harrisburg; a brother, Robert Kopp of Tower City; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

west hanover twp - Ralph Ernest Miller, 74, died Thursday, Dec. 19 at his home.
Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Clarence A. and Maggie I. Wenrich Miller.
He was a retired truck driver for Consolidated Freightways of York and the entrepreneur of Miller's Sharp All Shop of Harrisburg.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Linglestown; Robert Hoke American Legion, also in Linglestown; and Shellsville VFW in Grantville. He was past committeeman for Cub Scout Pack No. 33 of Harrisburg and past scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop No. 307 of Linglestown.
Surviving are his wife, Janice M. Baumbach Miller; three sons, Richard Eugene of New Bloomfield, Robert Scott of Harrisburg and Kevin Eugene of Lebanon; a daughter, Judith Fromm of Lawn; two brothers, James R. of Halifax and Charles of Lykens; two sisters, Grace A. Harbold of East Berlin and Alice A. Shertzer of Elizabethville; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was retired from the former Johnson-Bailee shoe factory in Millersburg and was a member of David's Church in Killinger.
Surviving are a daughter, Annabelle Bergey of Millersburg; two sons, Melvin of Greencastle and Clair of Halifax; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was a retired receptionist and secretary for a feed and seed company and a member of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Elizabethville - Elsie E. Kratzer, 99, a resident of the Kepler Home, formerly of 420 W. Main St., died Saturday, Dec. 21 at the nursing home.
Born in Gratz, she was the daughter of the late Dr. William and Pruella Huntzinger Lebo.
She was a former employee of the Elizabethville post office; a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Elizabethville; and a charter member of the Elizabethville Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John and a son, Louis, founders of Kratzer Hardware in Elizabethville.
Surviving are her daughter, Sarah Challenger of Elizabethville; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Chester Underkoffler
williamstown - Chester L. "Boo" Underkoffler, 84, of 419 W. Broad St., died Saturday, Dec. 21 at the Pottsville Hospital.
Born in Williamstown, he was the son of the late Rufus and Berdetta Bowerman Underkoffler and was a retired partner of the former Underkoffler Coal Company in Lykens.
He was of the Protestant faith and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a life member of Williamstown American Legion No. 239; Liberty Hose Company No. 1; Dauphin County Fireman Association and Cumberland County Fire Company.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Catherine E. Reho Underkoffler; a daughter, Pamela J. of Williamstown; two sons, Joseph C. of Millersburg and Laurence P. "Twiggs" of Williamstown; a brother, Glen of Williamstown; and three grandchildren.

She was a member and deacon of Hope Presbyterian Church in Dauphin and had been an active member of the Zembo Shrine Band Aides and the Middle Paxton Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert.
Surviving are her husband, J. Robert; two sons, James of Harrisburg and Thomas of San Diego, Calif.; and a granddaughter.

TOWER CITY - Ruth E. Jones, 89, of 831 East Wiconisco Avenue, died Wednesday, Dec. 25 at her home.
She was a retired seamstress from the garment industry.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Tower City and ILGWU.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William, and a daughter, Barbara Yeagley.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ellen Bender and Janice M. Luckenbill, both of Tower City; 11 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held at the convenience of the family. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery in Tower City.

ELIZABETHVILLE - Irvin T. Paul, 62, of 100 Arch Street, died Sunday, Dec. 22 at the Hershey Medical Center.
Born in Fearnot, he was the son of John J. and Jean M. Strohecker Paul of Elizabethville.
He was a retired machinist for Reiff and Nestor in Lykens. He had memberships in the Short Mountain Gun Club, Erdman Sportmen Association, Elizabethville VFW No. 6343, Gratz VFW No. 2385, Elizabethville American Legion Post No. 404 and IUE-CWA No. 135. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served aboard the U.S.S. Hornet.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Judith A. Buffington Paul; two sons, Dennis Paul of Halifax and David Paul, Sr. of Elizabethville; two daughters, Diane Gladney of Bastrop, La. and Darcy Reigner of Elizabethville; one brother, John Paul, Jr. of Mechanicsburg; and five grandchildren.
Services were held Thursday, Dec. 26 at Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc. in Elizabethville.
Internment with military honor guard was at Maple Grove Cemetery in Elizabethville.

CONNELSVILLE - John H. Sloan, 76, of Connellsville, formerly of Williamstown, died Tuesday, Dec. 24 at his home.
Born in Williamstown, he was a son of the late George F. and Lillie B. Wise Sloan.
He was a 1943 graduate of Williamstown High School, received a bachelor of science in music education from Penn State University in 1947, a masters degrees in music education from the University of Michigan in 1951, and doctoral degree from West Virginia University in 1962.
He was a former band director for the Connellsville Joint School System and administrative office worker for the Connellsville Area Schools.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the African and European theatres. He was a life member of Connellsville BPO Elks No. 503, a former member of the Ashlar Loge in Lykens, a member of the Connellsville American Legion No. 301, the Bullskin Twp. Lions Club, King Solomon's Lodge No. 346, the Lodge of Perfection Uniontown Commandery No. 49, the Olivet Council in Greensburg, the Syria Shrine Temple, Fayette County Artist and Actors and St. John's Lutheran Church in Connellsville. He was a member of F & AM in Connellsville where he served as Master in 1988; Royal Arch Chapter No. 283 were he served as high priest in 1962; and a member of the brass band since 1957.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betty C. Christian Sloan and a brother, Carl Sloan.
Surviving are his daughters, Beth Kunak of Connellsville and Rebecca Andyjohn of South Connellsville; and four grandchildren.

Born in Millersburg, she was a daughter of the late William and Erma Noll Wert.
She retired from the former Creative Playthings in Herndon.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Herndon; Idella Rebekah Lodge No. 58; and Herndon and Lower Northumberland County Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Hollenbach and a brother, Warren Wert.
Surviving are three brothers, Elwood Wert of Shiremanstown, Walter Wert of Boulder City, Nev., and William Wert of Hollidaysburg, Fla.; and a sister, Catherine Spicher of Hagerstown, Md.
Services were held Monday, Dec. 30 at her church. Burial was in Northumberland Memorial Park in Stonington.

Born in Penbrook, he was a son of the late Solomon and Kathryn Pankake Ramsey.
He was a retired carpenter and a member of the Dauphin Fire Company. He had served as a Forest Fire Warden with the Department of Environmental Protection for more than 40 years.
Surviving are his wife of more than 71 years, Mary Zettlemoyer Ramsey; a son, John Ramsey of Fishing Creek Valley; two daughters, Thelma Hinds of Dauphin and Helen Abrell of Broad Run, Va.; two brothers, Harry of Harrisburg and Ralph of Florida; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Born in Smithville, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Lillian Hess Kreider and a step-daughter of the late Ada Kreider.
She worked as a homemaker and was a member of Stumptown Mennonite Church in Bird-in-Hand.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy H. Lefever, and a brother, Elvin Kreider.
Surviving are a son, Jay Lefever of Chambersburg; a daughter, Janet Mateer of Elizabethville; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Howard Kreider of New Providence; and a sister, Minnie Kratz of New Providence.

LOWER PAXTON TWP. - Elwood G. "Lefty" "Dan" Daniels, 78, of Lower Paxton Twp., died Wednesday, Dec. 25 in the Osteopathic Hospital.
Born in Millersburg, he was the son of the late Guy and Katie Latsha Daniels.
He was a 1943 graduate of Millersburg High School and served as a 1st Class Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He retired from AMP, Inc. and was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church of America and the Robert Burns Lodge No. 464, formerly Euclid No. 698, of Harrisburg.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne Mattis Daniels; a son, Christopher E. Daniels of South Hanover Twp.; a sister, Janet Tobias Zurver of Millersburg; and three grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, Dec. 30 at his church. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

She was retired from area dress and blouse companies where she worked as a seamstress.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd F. Harner.

Born in Hegins, he was son of the late Marlin R. and Erma Huntsinger Shade, Sr.
He was retired from the Naval Depot in Mechanicsburg, a member of the Simeon United Lutheran Church in Gratz, the Gratz Twp. VFW, American Legion Post No. 326 of Millersburg, a life member of Gratz Fire Co., Erdman Sportsman's Club, and Black Forrest Snowmobile Club of Lycoming Co.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the Korean Way.
Surviving are his wife, Janice Kissinger Shade; three sons, Jack E. Shade, Jr., Rodney L. Shade, and Greg S. Shade, all of Gratz; three brothers, Allen Shade of Myerstown, Marlin Shade, Jr. of Elizabethville and Robert Huntsinger of Hegins; and six grandchildren.

HALIFAX - Hubert S. Wolfe, 74, died Friday, Dec. 27 in Community General Osteopathic Hospital in Harrisburg.
Born in Harrisburg, he was the son of Isaac and Esther Rachael Diamond Wolfe.
Raised in Lenkerville, he was a 1946 graduate of Millersburg High School.
He was retired from American Can Company and formerly worked for Johnson-BaileeShoe Company, D & H Distributors and Joslyn, Inc. After retirement, he operated a stand at the Route 15 Flea Market in Lewisburg.
He is survived by his wife, Emma L. Kolva; three sons, Thomas S. Wolfe of Fairfax, Va., Steven D. Wolfe of Quakertown; two daughters, Kathy Wolfe of Halifax and Sharon Tepsick of Ezel, Ky.; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
There will be no services.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 2 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Hoover Funeral Home, Inc. in Elizabethville. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Enders.

She was a homemaker and a member of Stumptown Mennonite Church in Bird-in-Hand.
Surviving are a son, Jay Lefever of Chambersburg; a daughter, Janet Mateer of Elizabethville; a brother, Howard Kreider of New Providence; a sister, Minnie Krantz, also of New Providence; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Elvin Kreider.
Funeral services were held Dec. 28 at her church. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
