Bertha E. Enders
LYKENS - Bertha E. Enders, 89, of 820 South St., formerly of Halifax, died Sunday, Jan. 23 at her residence. Born in Middleburg, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Beulah Mussel-man Straub. She was retired from Willits shoe company in Halifax and was co-owner of the former Enders Greenhouse. She was a member of Halifax United Methodist Church and a past worthy matron of the former OES Millersburg Chapter No. 326, now Glen Chapter No. 425. She was the widow of A. Marlin Enders. Surviving are a daughter, Madeline Black-way of Lykens; two sisters, Martha Trawitz of Middleburg and Julia Walter of Mifflin-burg; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. There will be no services. Memorial donations may be made to: Halifax United Methodist Church, 105 Wind Hill Drive, Halifax 17032; or to PinacleHealth Hospice 3705 Elmwood Drive Harrisburg, 17110. Rodney E. Morgan
JOLIETT - Rodney E. Morgan, 48, of 43 Main St., died Tuesday, Jan. 25 at his home. Born July 2, 1956 in Pottsville, he was the son of Arthur R. Morgan of Pottsville and the late Lorraine L. Harner Morgan, and was a 1974 graduate of Williams Valley Junior-Senior High School. He was employed by Gillford Mills, Pine Grove, for 24 years. He was a member of Christ the Saviour Orthodox Church in Harrisburg. Surviving, in addition to his father, are his brother, Keith R. of Joliett; a companion, Joel C. Powers of Harrisburg; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Funeral services were held Jan. 28 from his church. Burial was in Frieden's Lutheran Cemetery in Hegins. Goldie I. Rieger
HERNDON - Goldie I. Rieger, 97, of Herndon RR2, died Tuesday, Jan. 25 at her home. Born Nov. 30, 1907 in Dalmatia, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Bernice Radel Kerstetter. She attended Dalmatia School and lived most of her life in the Herndon area. She was a homemaker, and a member of Seibert Evangelical Congregational Church in Herndon where she was active for many years. She was a member of the Lower Northumberland County Senior Action Center, and was active at the Herndon Camp Grove. She was the widow of Ralph T. Rieger. Surviving are three daughters, Jean Reader, Shirley Haak and Betty Spotts, all of Herndon RR2; three sons, Donald of Sunbury RR3, Lewis "Cap" of Sunbury and Ralph Jr. of Myerstown; two brothers, Kenneth and Clarence White, both of Dalmatia; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grand-children; 15 great-great-grand-children; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Kerstetter; a sister, Beulah Ditty; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held Jan. 29 from her church. Burial was in Herndon Cemetery. Christine M. Bard
WICONISCO - Christine M. Bard, 63, of 404 Maple St., formerly of Stevens, died Sunday, Jan. 23. Born in Brockton, Maine, she was the daughter of Gracia Ames Nesbitt of Florida and the late Leonard Lundgren. She graduated as an LPN from nursing school in Brockton. She was a homemaker. She was the widow of Justus F. Bard II. Surviving, in addition to her mother, are two daughters, Catherine Ott of New Holland and Cynthia Jones of Wiconisco; a son, Justus F., III of Williamstown; a half-brother Harold Rogers of Reamstown; and seven grandchildren. Services were held Jan. 27 from Furman Home for Funerals in Leola. Burial was in Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery.

Kenneth H. Shadle
VALLEY VIEW - Kenneth H. Shadle, 82, of 718 W. Maple Street, died Monday, Jan. 24 at Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center in Tremont. Born April 2, 1922 in Fountain, he was the son of the late Homer A. and Carrie H. Stutzman Shadle. He was a 1940 graduate of the former Hegins Twp. High School, and a graduate of Coyne Electrical School of Chicago, Ill. He was a retired electrician from Alcoa Aluminum in Cressona, and was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church in Valley View; F&AM Valley View Lodge 797; Harrisburg Consistory; 25-Year Club of Alcoa Aluminum; and Pottsville Ostomy Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Elsie E. Stutzman Shadle; a son, William K. of Moon Twp.; a sister, Gladys Stutzman of Media; and three granddaughters. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin, Wayne and Russell Shadle. Masonic and funeral services were held Jan. 28 from his church. Burial was in Fountain Community Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to: Alzheimer's Associa-tion, 3544 N. Chester L. Minnich
VALLEY VIEW - Chester Lamar Minnich, 81, of 410 W. Main Street, died Wednesday, Jan. 26 at Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born March 28, 1923 in Valley View, he was the son of the late Earl and Pearl Klouser Minnich, and was a 1941 graduate of the former Hegins Twp. High School. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific with the U.S. Army Air Crops as a Tech 5. He received the Pacific Theatre Service medal with three bronze stars. He was a retired truck driver, and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and VFW Post No. 8237, both in Valley View. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Betty P. Bonawitz Minnich; a son, William E. of Valley View; three daughters, Cathy A. Koons of Hegins and Abbie J. Stiely and Lori L. Minnich, both of Valley View; a brother, Russell of Dillsburg; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard; and a grandson. Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family from Buffington-Reed Funeral Home in Valley View. Burial will be in Church of God Cemetery in Valley View. John M. Herb
HERNDON - John M. Herb, 73, of Herndon RR2, died Sunday, Jan. 30 at his home. Born Sept. 1, 1931 in Subury RR3, he was the son of the late Harvey E. and Adda Lahr Herb, and was educated in the Herndon area schools. He retired in 1996 as a heavy equipment operator for Meckley's Limestone in Herndon. He had previously been employed at Susquehanna Quarry in Millersburg. He was currently serving as a township supervisor for Jackson Twp. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, having served as a staff sergeant in the U. S. Army, 60th Air Born Division. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Red Cross where he served as a former member of the church council, and was a lifetime member of Moose Lodge in Millersburg and Herndon Fire Company. He was a member of Alvin E. Long American Legion in Mandata and Hemlock Rod and Gun at Elmsport where he served as president from the time the gun club was built until 2004. Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Reba L. Lebo Herb; a daughter, Gale L. Brosious; two sisters, Lena Paul of Shamokin Dam and Anna Shaffer of York; a grandson; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clair; and two nephews. Memorial services will be held Thursday, Feb. 3 at 11 a.m. from his church. There will be no viewing. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Peter's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Peter's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, RR1, Dornsife 17823. The Stephen R. Esther G. Nissley
MIDDLETOWN - Esther G. Johnston Nissley, 80, of Pineford Village, formerly of the upper Dauphin area, died Monday, Jan. 24 at Holy Spirit Hospital. She was a past member of the Eastern Star. She was the widow of Paul B. Johnston. Surviving are her husband, Elmer M. Nissley; a son, David Johnston of Mechanicsburg; a daughter, Linda Johnston Teter of Dauphin; a stepson, Joel Kramer of Connecticut; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Robert K. Bingaman
DALMATIA - Robert K. Bingaman, 91, of Dalmatia, died Wednesday, Jan. 26 at his home. Born May 15, 1913 in Dalmatia, he was the son of the late Philip S. and Erma Heckert Bingaman. He was a retired foreman from Brubaker Tool Corp. in Millersburg, and a member of Lower Mahanoy Fire Co. and Herndon F&AM Lodge No. 702. He was the widow of Violet E. Long Bingaman. Surviving are a son, Kenneth S. Bingaman of Dalmatia; three grandchildren; and seven great- grandchildren. Memorial services were held Jan. 28 from James A. Reed Funeral Home in Pillow. Burial was in Dalmatia Cemetery.

Phyllis I. Gething
WILLIAMSTOWN - Phyllis I. Uhler Gething, 83, of Williamstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 25 at her home. She was a retired stamper from Lebro shirt factory in Lykens, and a member of Williamstown United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Eli "Bud" Gething, and also was preceded in death by a daughter, Joanne Y. Adams; and a sister, Lois J. Wagner. Surviving are a daughter, Karen "Kaye" Updegrave of Williamstown; a son, Gary E. Gething of Folsom, Calif; a brother, William G. Uhler of Williamstown; five grandchildren; two step grandsons; and five great-grandsons. Memorial services were held Jan. 29 from his church. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery. Richard McCormick
DALMATIA - Richard W. McCormick, 53, of Turkey Hill St., died Sunday, Jan. 30 at his home. Born March 14, 1951 in Pearisburg, Va., he was the son of the late Richard B. and Winifred Nelson McCormick. He was employed as a machinist at Brubaker Tool Corp. in Millersburg, and was a member of Zion Stone Valley United Lutheran Church in Dalmatia. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1993. Surviving are his wife, Rena Dreibelbis McCormick; a son, Brian of Dalmatia; and two sisters, Kitty Cline of Dayton, Va. and Connie Zartin of Eggleston, Va. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 11 a.m. from his church. Burial will be in Stone Valley Cemetery, Dalmatia RD.
