HEGINS - Mark H. Minnich, 84, of 614 E. Main St., died August 31 at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Pottsville. Born April 20, 1921 in Hegins, he was the son of the late Albert H. and Susie Stutzman Minnich. He was a 1938 graduate of the former Hegins Twp. High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of W.W. II He was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ in Hegins. He was a member of VFW Post No. 8237 and American Legion Post No. 575, both of Valley View and the Hegins Fire Company. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Alma B. Clark Minnich; a son, Robert L. Minnich of Douglasville; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Private graveside services were held at the convenience of the family at Friedens Cemetery in Hegins. Memorial contributions may be made to: Hegins Area Ambulance Association, Valley View 17983. Jared Brent Sheaffer
MILLERSBURG - Jared Brent Sheaffer, 24, of 1329 Route 25, died August 30 at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown from injuries as a result of a vehicular accident. Born April 18, 1981 in Lancaster, he was the son of John C. Sheaffer and Shelly A. Lafferty Sheaffer, both of Millersburg. He was a 1999 graduate of Millersburg Area High School and a 2003 graduate of Kutztown University. He was employed as a manager at TC's Fine Food & Spirits in Kutztown. Surviving are his step-mother, Mary of Millersburg; his mother's companion, Kerry Heiser of Millersburg; a brother, Caleb of Millersburg; two step-sisters, Stephanie and Emily Bashore of Millersburg; grandparents; and a great-grand- mother. Services were held Sept. 2 at Grace United Methodist Church in Millersburg. James L. "Jessie" Keister
HALIFAX - James L. "Jessie" Keister, 77, of 245 Dividing Ridge Road, died August 31 at his residence. Born July 5, 1928 in Halifax, he was the son of the late Clair P. and Catherine E. Seltzer Keister. He was a retired core maker at the former Bethlehem Steel Plant in Steelton, and also had retired from the former Hales Food Market in Halifax. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp as a sergeant. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Fisherville. He was a lifetime member of the Halifax Historical Society, a member of the Lykens Valley Roamers Camping Club of FCRV and of SOAR. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Richard. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Sara F. Sweigard Keister; five sons, Alan E. Keister of Noxen, Bruce E. of Halifax, Earl E. of Halifax, Glen E. Keister of Millersburg, Hal E. of Halifax; three daughters, Cathy E. Ochenrider of Millersburg, Debra E. Keister of Halifax and Faye E. Feger of Harrisburg; and 10 grandchildren. Services were held September 6 at Faith U.M. Church in Fisherville. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery in Enders. Gerald Steven Bowman
HALIFAX - Gerald Steven Bowman, 55, of 49 Union Church Road, died Sept. 1 at his home. Born March 16, 1950 in Harrisburg, he was the son of Doris Lorraine Schuchman Bowman and the late Richard Miller. He worked as an equipment operator for Liberty Excavating, Inc. He attended Light of Hope Community Church in Dauphin. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Liebert Bowman; a daughter, Kimberly Bowman of Halifax; a son, Stephen Bowman of Selinsgrove; three sisters, Mary Beth Bowman and Joanne Bowman, both of Mechanicsburg and Brenda Bowman of Selinsgrove; a brother Larry Bowman of Georgia; and two granddaughters. Services were held Sept. 7 at Light of Hope Church. Burial was in Riverview Memorial Gardens in Halifax. Warren James Weida, Jr.
ELIZABETHVILLE - Warren James Weida, Jr., 58, of 222 Park Dr., died August 31 at the Harrisburg Hospital. Born Nov. 22, 1946 in Harrisburg, he was the son of Mabel Bellis Weida of Elizabethville and the late Warren J. Weida. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a retired vice president of sales at Swab Wagon Co. in Elizabethville. He was a member of VFW Post No. 6343 and the American Legion No. 404, both of Elizabethville and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He was the widower of Deanna M. Zimmerman Weida. Surviving are a daughter, Melissa Weida Ventresca of Harrisburg and a sister, Connie Weida of Elizabethville. Services were private at the convenience of the family. MILLERSBURG - Reuben B. Buffington, 90, of 105 Park Lane, formerly of 735 Church St., died Sept. 5 at ManorCare of Camp Hill. Born August 12, 1915 in Enola, he was the son of the late Andrew and Ella S. Stoneroad Buffington. He was a retired foreman at Brubaker Tool Co. in Millers-burg. He was a member of St. James Independent Church in Carsonville. He was the widower of Edith E. Miller Buffington. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Bertha Beers and a brother, Roy Buffington. Surviving are a daughter, Kathleen M. Gannon of Camp Hill; a son, David Buffington of Harrisburg; a sister, Helen Good of Millersburg; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Hoover Funeral Homes in Millersburg. Viewing will be held Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. LECK KILL - Jean M. Snyder, 71, of HC-63, died Sept. 3 at her home. Born Oct. 15, 1933 in Dornsife RR, she was the daughter of the late Harry L. and Flossie I. Snyder Clark. She was a 1951 graduate of the former Mahanoy Joint High School of Dalmatia. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Himmel's Lutheran Church of Rebuck, where she was a member of the Women of the Church. She was the widow of Mark E. Snyder. She also was preceded in death by a brother, William Clark. Surviving are a daughter, Connie Ness of Gladstone, Mich.; two sons, Mark Snyder of Parker, Colo. and Paul Snyder of El Cerrito, Calif.; two sisters, Hope Rebuck of Rebuck and Joyce Fletcher of Jacksonville, Fla.; and seven grandchildren. She was a 1938 graduate of Williamstown High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lykens and the Women of the Moose No. 59 in Millersburg. She was the widow of Robert G. Mehalko. Surviving are a son, Dennis E. Morris, Sr. of Shermans-dale; a sister, Anna Keen of Williamstown; a brother, Donald Coles of Williamstown; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was retired from the maintenance department at Ft. Indiantown Gap. He was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Williamstown, Williamstown American Legion No. 239, founding member of the Central PA Cage Bird Club, Reading Pigeon Association, American Dove Association, Iowa State Pigeon Association, Bermuda Bird Fanciers Society, Hudson Valley Pigeon Association, Cairo Variety Pigeon Club, White Rose Pigeon Club of York, Lebanon Valley Fanciers, Rare Breed Pigeon Club, National Pigeon Association, Virginia Pigeon and Dove Association, Eastern Pouter and Cropper Club, American Archangel Club, American Pouter Club and the NRA. He was the widower of Ida L. Knorr McNalis. Surviving are two daughters, Theresa M. Miller of Leck Kill and Patty A. Ney of Williamstown; a son, Michael D. McNalis of Pine Grove; a sister, Ruth McNalis of Minersville; and five grandchildren. Services were held Sept. 7 at his church. Burial was in the parish cemetery. She was a graduate of Tri-Valley High School. She was employed at United Cerebral Palsy in Pottsville. She was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church in Hegins. She was preceded in death by a sister, Rose M. Deitrich. Surviving are two brothers, John R. Deitrich and Harvey C. Deitrich, both of Hegins; and two sisters, Carol A. Kukuk of Muir and Patricia L. Deitrich of Pottsville. Services were held Sept. 6 at the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Friedens Cemetery in Hegins.
