Jacob A. Perry, 18, of HCR 73, Three Springs, died at 1:19
a.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at Great Lakes, Ill., as a result
of an auto accident. 
Born May 14, 1982, in Lancaster, he was the son of Daynia
(Perry) Germer, who survive in Three Springs. 
The following grandparents survive: James and Donna Perry,
Marriane Baldori and Jacob Caldwell II, all of Lancaster. 
One great-grandmother, Mary Krewson of Lancaster survives. 
Also surviving are a brother and a sister, Ryan Caldwell and
Elizabeth Germer, both of Lancaster. 
Mr. Perry had attended the McCaskey High School in Lancaster
and was currently serving in the U.S. Navy at Great Lakes
Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill. 
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 3, at
the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with Pastor Roz
Mason officiating. Interment will be made in the Clear Ridge
Cemetery, Hustontown, R.D. 
Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the
service on Friday. Full military  honors will be accorded by
the U.S. Navy at the graveside on Friday. 

Paul Leslie Dysart, 82, of 395 Edwardsville Road, Apt. 201,
Wood River, Ill., died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at 9:45 p.m.,
at the Wood River Township Hospital, Wood River, I11. 
Born March 8, 1917, in Mapleton, he was the son of the late
Joseph E. and Bertha (McConahy) Dysart. He married M. Arlene
Geissinger Oct. 5, 1939, in Huntingdon. The Rev. George Boggs
officiated the ceremony. Mrs. Dysart preceded him in death
Aug. 13, 1988. 
One son and one daughter survive; Joel E. Dysart, Baltimore,
Md.; and Mrs. Rick (Patricia) Brewer, Godfrey, I11. There are
two granddaughters. 
One sister, Mrs. Beulah D. Shawley of Huntsville, Ala.,
survives. 
Five brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. 
Mr. Dysart was a member of the Fifteenth Street United
Methodist Church, Huntingdon. 
He was a life member and past commander of the Standing Stone
Post No. 1754, VFW, and was past captain of the Pennsylvania
All State Commanders. 
He retired from the State Correctional Institution Huntingdon
November 1977. He also operated Dysart's Service Station at
Seventh and Penn streets in Huntingdon. 
He attended the Mapleton and Mount Union area schools and was
a 1935 graduate of the Mount Union High School. 
During World War 11, he served in the U.S. Army in the
European Theatre of War. 
He had lived at his current residence since 1994. He enjoyed
woodworking and model railroading. 
Funeral services will be held at the John B. Brown, Funeral
Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, Saturday, March 4, at 1
p.m., with the Rev. David L. Dearing officiating. Interment
will be made in the Mapleton IOOF Cemetery. Full graveside
military honors will be accorded. 
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday after 7 p.m. and
from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service on Saturday.

Nellie Brown McDowell, 75, of 477 Rockwood Dr., Elizabethtown,
formerly of Altoona and Robertsdale, died Sunday, Feb. 27,
2000, at the home of her daughter, following an extended
illness. 
Born April 19, 1924, in Coalmont, she was the daughter of the
late Bruce and Annie (Noel) Barnett. Mrs. McDowell was first
married to Wendell Brown, who preceded her in death May 29,
1979. Later in her life she married Ernest McDowell, who also
preceded her in death Feb. 10, 1997. 
Surviving are two daughters and one son: Cindy Myers of
Elizabethtown; Janice Brown of Fayetteville, Ark.; and Merril
Barnett of Jacksonville, N.C. One grandson, Michael Brown, was
reared in her home. There are seven grandchildren and 17
great-grandchildren surviving. 
Two sisters and one brother also survive: Phyllis Buckley,
Coalmont; Lois Barefoot, Angola, N.Y.; and Bruce Barnett Jr.,
Norwalk, Calif. 
Two children preceded her in death: Sharon and Russell Brown,
along with two brothers and one sister. 
While living in the Robertsdale area, Mrs. McDowell was a
member of the Robertsdale United Methodist Church and most
recently attended the Newville Bible Church. A 1942 graduate
of the Saxton-Liberty High School, she was primarily a
homemaker. 
During her life, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, square dancing
and selling Avon. 
She was a member of the Eldo Squares square dancing club, the
RW&BT ladies auxiliary, served on the Wood Township election
board for several years and was a census taker for the past 50
years. She also owned Brown's Shop in Robertsdale for 15
years. 
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 4, at 10 a.m.,
at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home, Broad Top, with Pastor Ed
Eifert and the Rev. Robert Raycroft officiating. Interment
will be made in the IOOF Cemetery, Broad Top. 
Friends will be received Friday, March 3, from 7 until 9 p.m.
at the funeral home. 

Donald R. Greenland, 71, of Pennsylvania Furnace, died
Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at his home. 
Born May 8, 1928, in Clay Township, Huntingdon County, he was
the son of the late Moody E. and Mildred Rebecca (Miller)
Greenland. He married Lorenah M. Steese May 8, 1954. She
survives at home. 
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters and
three sons: Peggy Ann Loring, Bamburg, Germany; Sharon Kay
Devlin, State College; Karen Joan Tice, Pine Grove Mills; Ray
Donald Green land, Spring Mills; Charles Lynn Greenland, State
College; and Gerald Arthur Greenland, Pennsylvania Furnace.
There are 11 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. 
Two sisters, Anna Mae Flasher of Spring City, and Betty
Peterson of Orbisonia, survive. 
He retired as lead mason at Penn State University in 1989,
after 29 years of service. While working at 
Penn State, he did general contracting, specializing in
masonry work for several years. 
He collected model and full-size John Deere tractors and
displayed them at Penn State Ag Progress Days. 
He was a member. of the Church of the Nazarene in State
College. He enjoyed hunting and cutting wood. 
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 3, at 11 a.m., at
the Church of the Nazarene, 3601 South Atherton St., State
College, with the Rev. Paul D. MacPherson officiating.
Interment will be made in the Graysville Cemetery in the
village of Graysville, Huntingdon County. 
Friends may call at the Koch Funeral Home, 2401 South Atherton
St., State College, this evening, from 6 until 9 p.m.

Earle James Magwood, 85, a resident of 1111 Mifflin St.,
Huntingdon, since 1993, formerly of Canada and California,
died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at 4:10 a.m., at Huntingdon
Manor. 
Born Sept. 10, 1914, in Cartwright, Manitoba, Canada, he was
the son of the late Wilberforce Thomas David and Annie Edna
(Ross) Magwood. He married Phyllis Gertrude "Fay" Dyke Aug.
30, 1941, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She survives at their
home. 
Three children survive: James Thomas Magwood, Bakersfield,
Calif.; John Robert Magwood, Boston, Mass.; and Linda Faye
Christine, Huntingdon. There are 12 grandchildren and 21
great-grandchildren. 
The last member of his immediate family, he was preceded in
death by a brother, Ross, and a sister, Ida Stephanson. 
Mr. Magwood was a member of the Christian and Missionary
Alliance Church, Huntingdon. He belonged to various churches
in Canada and California, where he served on church boards,
taught Sunday School, sang in choirs, organized and helped to
build a library and assisted in the planning and construction
of several new churches. During his lifetime he had been
employed as a pilot, teacher, carpenter, writer, real estate
salesman and retired as director of the county planning
department in Sonora, Calif. 
A veteran of World War 11, he served as a pilot with the Royal
Canadian Air Force for five years. His squadron patrolled the
west coast of Canada. He also flew commanding officers up and
down the west coast of Canada. 
He attended the teacher training school in Moose Jaw,
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, in 1932 and the business    college
in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, from 1938 until 1940. 
Mr. Magwood enjoyed sports, especially hockey, baseball,
tennis and horseback riding. His hobbies ranged from reading
(especially the Bible), to stamp and coin collecting, music,
gardening, drawing and painting. 
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 4, at 3 p.m.,
at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Huntingdon,
with the Rev. Hal Rotruck officiating. Interment will be made
in his family's plot in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. 
Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian and

Samuel Dallas Miller, 86, of Huntingdon, R.D. 4, died
Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at 8:05 p.m., at The Oaks at
Westminster Woods. 
Born April 19, 1913, in Henderson Township, Huntingdon County,
he was the son of the late Samuel and Elsie (McElwain) Miller.
He married Louise Davis May 29, 1937. 
Mrs. Miller survives at home, along with a son, Jeffrey D.
Miller of James Creek. There are four grandchildren and one
great-grandson. 
Three sisters also survive: Janet Johnson, San Clemente,
Calif.; Beulah Rose, MeVeytown, R.D. 1; and Dorothy Miller,
Huntingdon. 
One sister, Rachel Nagel, preceded him in death. 
Mr. Miller was a member of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church,
Huntingdon, R.D. 3. He also belonged to the Stone Creek Valley
Lions Club and the Standing Stone Senior Citizens. 
For a number of years he was employed by H.T. Reynolds of
Huntingdon., He retired in 1975 from J.C. Blair Memorial
Hospital, after 30 years of service as head of maintenance. 
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of
the family, with Pastor Peter J. Naschke officiating.
Interment will be made in the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church
Cemetery, Huntingdon, R.D. 3. 
There will be no public viewing or visitation. In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stone Creek
Valley Lions Club, Cold Springs Road, Huntingdon, Pa. 16652. 
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Robert E.
Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon.   

Terry Lee Silknitter, 60, of Long Street, Petersburg, died
Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at 12:15 a.m., at his Petersburg
residence. He had been in failing health for the past year. 
Born Feb. 25, 1940, in Petersburg, he was the son of the late
John Frederick Silknitter and Lois Jane (Snyder) Silknitter,
who survives in Petersburg. 
One sister, Mrs. Kermit (Pat) Rupert of Petersburg also
survives. 
He was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Penny and
Joy Silknitter. 
A niece and a nephew survive. For a number of years, he had
worked at the Technitrol Plant in Petersburg. 
He was a former member of the the William P. Spyker American
Legion Post No. 520, Alexandria and the Petersburg Volunteer
Fire Company. 
He had attended the Juniata Valley public schools. 
>From August 1957 until April 1961, Mr. Silknitter served with
the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, Troop K., Third
Reconnaissance Squadron,, 104th Armored Cavalry. He later
entered into active duty with the U.S. Army, serving with the
13th Medical Detachment as a medical corpsman from Jan. 29,
1962, until Jan. 28, 1965. 
Mr. Silknitter was of the Methodist faith. He enjoyed
woodworking and crafts. He had been a lifetime resident of
Petersburg. 
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 5, at
the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, Juniata Valley Chapel, 412
Main St., Alexandria, with the Rev. William Kauffman
officiating. Interment will be made in the Cedar Grove
Cemetery, with full military rites accorded. 
Friends may call at the funeral home this evening from 7 until
9 p.m.

Donald Eugene Barber, 76, of Porter Township, Huntingdon, R.D.
1, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at 12:15 a.m., at J.C. Blair
Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. 
Born March 11, 1923, in Saltillo, he was the son of the late
Leroy and Etta (Stake) Barber. He married Ida Mae Kylor July
5, 1946, in Huntingdon. Mrs. Barber survives at their
residence. 
Three children also survive: Donald Dean Barber, York; Duane
Eugene Barber, Shrewsberry; and Bonnie Lee (Barber) Louder,
Huntingdon. There are three grandchildren. One granddaughter
preceded him in death. 
Also surviving are two siblings: Beulah Hall, Huntingdon; and
Ruth Elder, Salem, Ore. 
Two sisters and one brother preceded him in death. 
Mr. Barber was of the Methodist faith. He was a member of the
William P. Spyker Post No. 520, American Legion, Alexandria. 
He retired in 1982 as a truck driver with Butler Trucking,
after 20 years of service as a driver. He had 
also been employed by C. H. Miller Hardware and Owens Corning
Fiberglas. 
Mr. Barber attended the Saltillo public schools. During World
War 11, he served in the U.S. Army as a corporal technician in
both the European and Pacific theatres of operations. 
A lifetime resident of Huntingdon County, he had lived at his
current residence since 1972. 
He enjoyed working on the lawn. At the request of the family,
there will be no public viewing or visitation. Funeral
services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Evelyn (Oswalt) Lane, 81, of 1231 Washington St.. Huntingdon,
died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at 11:35         it J.C. Blair
Memorial Hospital. Huntingdon.
Born June 30, 1918, in Cornpropst Mills, Miller Township,
Huntingdon County, she was the daughter of the late George V,
and Lillian Elizabeth (Crownover) Oswalt. She married Valgene
V. Lane April 18. 1953, in Hagerstown, Md. Mr. Lane preceded
her in death in 1954. 
Two nieces, two great-nephews and one great-niece survive. 
One sister, Mrs. James (Janet Oswalt) Coleman, preceded her in
death. 
Mrs. Lane was a member of the Fifteenth Street United
Methodist Church. Huntingdon. 
She was a member of the auxiliary to the Frank P. Hommon Post
No. 24 American Legion, Huntingdon, and the Women of the
Moose, Loyal Order of Moose, Huntingdon Lodge No. 220. 
She began her employment with the Huntingdon Throwing Company
in April 1941 and later with its successor, Owens Corning,,
Fiberglas, until her retirement in 1981, with a total of 38
years of service. Most recently. Mrs. Lane was employed by
Shope Motors in Huntingdon in the accounting department. 
She attended the Huntingdon, public schools and was a graduate
of the Huntingdon High School Class of 1938 and the Huntingdon
Secretarial School, Class of 1941. 
Mrs. Lane had been a resident of Huntingdon County since
birth. 
A funeral service will be held Monday, March 6, at 11 a.m., at
the John B. Brown Funeral Home, Inc., 417 Washington St.,
Huntingdon, with the Rev. David L. Dearing officiating,
assisted by the Rev. Raymond Crownover. 
Interment will be made in the Riverview Cemetery, 245 Standing
Stone Ave., Huntingdon., 
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 until 4 p.m. and
from 7 until 9 p.m. Sunday, March 5, and from 9 a.m. until the
hour of the service on Monday. 

Ona L. Frank Naugle, 80, of Kettering, Ohio, formerly of Mount
Union, died at 12:20 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2000, at the
Kettering Memorial Hospital. 
Born Jan. 28, 1920, in Mount Union, she was the daughter of
the late W. Herman and, Katie (Cassady) Norris. She was
preceded in death by her first husband, Jay William Frank Jr.,
and her second husband, Ralph William Naugle. 
One son, Gary L. Frank of Dayton, Ohio, and a stepdaughter,
Barbara (Naugle) Pennock of Marshal, Mo., survive. There are
two grandchildren and four step-grandchildren. 
The following brothers and sisters preceded her in death:
Martha Bard, Lena Ranck, Lorre Rutherford, Arley Diven, infant
sister Ellen Norris, Leroy Norris and Lewis Norris. 
Mrs. Naugle had been employed by the L. Greif Brothers
Manufacturing, Mount Union, for over 20 years and had also
worked at the Gay Shoppe in Mount Union. 
She was a graduate of the Huntingdon High School and a member
of the First United Methodist Church, Mount Union. 
A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday,
March 7, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union,
with the Rev. Robert Walsh officiating. Interment will be made
in the Mount Union Cemetery. 
Friends will be received at the funeral home Monday, March 6,
from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the
time of the service.  

Thomas E. Heath, 58, of 52 S. Main Street, Robertsdale, died
Friday, March 3, 2000, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital
following a brief illness. 
Mr. Heath was born Nov. 10, 1941, the son of the late Horace
and Louella (Eichelberger) Heath Cooley and the late Leland
Cooley. 
He is survived by one sister, Martha Whited of Seven Valleys,
and six brothers: Russell Heath of Ocean Springs, Miss.; Irvin
Heath of Broad Top; Roy Cooley of Robertsdale, R.R.; Michael
Cooley of Rocky Mount, Va., and Wayne Cooley of DuBois. 
He is also survived by nine nieces and 12 nephews. 
Mr. Heath was of the Protestant faith. 
After graduating from Robertsdale High School in 1959, Mr.
Heath enlisted in the United States Army. After completing his
military service, he went to work at Caterpillar of York. He
retired after 30. years of service. 
Mr. Heath was a member of UAW Local 786 union and a member of
the Watson and Black Post 126 American Legion, where he held
the position of second vice commander. He was also a member of
the RW&BT Fire Company and a member of the Broad Top Coal
Miners Historical Society. 
Mr. Heath was an avid NASCAR fan. 
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 6, 2000, at 2
p.m., at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home in Broad Top, with
Pastor Donald Simmons officiating. Friends will be received at
the funeral home Sunday, March 5, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday,
from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be
made in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Broad Top, with military
honors.  

Gilbert S  "Gib" Shirey, 86, of 167 Ort Valley Rd., Lewistown,
died at 2:18 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2000, at the Lewistown
Hospital. 
Born June 20, 1913, in Derry Township, Mifflin County, he was
the son of the late Lester L. and Mary (Klose) Shirey. He
married Cora Wagner May 6, 1934. 
Mrs. Shirey survives at home, along with a daughter, Mrs.
Richard (Norma) Fisher of Lewistown. There are three
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. 
Also surviving are a brother and sister: Leonard L. Shirey and
Mrs. William (Kathryn) Stumpff, both of Lewistown, R.D. 3. 
One brother, John K. Shirey, preceded him in death. 
Mr. Shirey was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 34
years, retiring in November 1973. 
He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church,
Lewistown. 
Mr. Shirey was a charter member and past president of Chief
Logan Lions Club; served as past district 14-L Governor and
was the first recipient in Mifflin County of the Melvin Jones
Award. He was also a charter member of the Northeast Eye Bank;
the Lewistown Lodge No. 203 F&AM, and numerous other Masonic
bodies. 
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 6, at
the Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 
Lewistown, with the Rev. Gerald A. Krum officiating. Interment
will be made in the Juniata Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewistown. 
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 until 9 p.m.
Sunday evening. 
A Masonic service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening at
the funeral home.

Iva Mae Barnett, 91, of Memory Lane, Hustontown, died at 5:35
a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2000, at the Fulton County Medical
Center, McConnellsburg. 
Born April 9, 1908, in Clear Ridge, she was the daughter of
the late William and Malinda Jane (Edwards) Strait. She was
married to Clarence Eugene Barnett Sr. March 9, 1926. Mr.
Barnett died Feb.26,1992. 
Surviving are nine children: Madelene Ulsh, Three Springs,
R.D.; Gerald Barnett, Marietta; Genevieve Cutchall, Danville;
Clair Barnett, Dudley; Harty Barnett, Harrisonville;  Gayle
Harris, McConnellsburg; Clarence E. Bar- nett Jr. and Karl
Barnett, both of Hustontown; and Gary Barnett, Danville. There
are 43 grandchildren, 97 great-grandchildren and 21
great-great-grandchildren. 
One sister, Juanita Hockensmith of Harrisonville, survives. 
One son, Glenn Barnett Sr.; a daughter, Patricia Mellott;
seven brothers and four sisters preceded her in death. 
Mrs. Barnett was of the Protestant faith and was a homemaker. 
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, at
the M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, with Pastor Kevin
Wade officiating. Interment will be made in the Fairview
Cemetery, Harrisonville, R.D. Friends may call at the funeral
home from 7 until 9 p.m. this evening and from 10 a.m. until
the hour of the, service on Tuesday. 

Patsy J. Barrick, 59, of 16814 Schriber Road, Fannettsburg,
died Saturday, March 4, 2000, at the Chambersburg Hospital. 
Born Nov. 28, 1940, in Shade Gap, she was the daughter of
Pierce C. Naugle, who survives in Mt. Hope, W.Va., and the
late Lillian G. (Parson) Naugle. 
She married John F. Barrick June 19, 1962. He survives at the
Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center,
Chambersburg. 
Two brothers, Clarence E. Naugle of Mt. Hope, W.Va., and
Theodore C. Naugle of Shade Gap, survive. Numerous nieces,
nephews, aunts and uncles also survive. 
Mrs. Barrick was a member of the Carrick United Methodist
Church in Metal Township. 
She was employed by the former ITT Domestic Pump in
Shippensburg, where she worked for a numher of years. She was
an avid hunter, enjoyed the outdoors, loved her dogs and was
always there to lend a hand to her family and friends. 
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at 10
a.m., at the John L. Agett Funeral Home, Dry Run, with the
Rev. Ted Hale and the Rev. Karl R. Herman officiating.
Interment will be made in the Spring Run Cemetery, Spring Run. 
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 until 9
p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service.

Betty Jean Gunsallus, 66, of Tyrone, R.D. 2, died at 12:22
p.m. Sunday, March 5, 2000, at the Tyrone Hospital emergency
room. 
Born April 11, 1933, in Tyrone, she was a daughter of the late
Harvey James and Nellie (Jeffries) Myers. 
She married Charles W. Gunsallus Sr. May 28, 1949, in
Geeseyeathtown. He preceded her in death Sept. 20, 1986. One
daughter and two sons survive: Gloria Wolfe, Tyrone, R.D.#2;
Michael K. Gunsallus, Frederick, Md.; and David A. Gunsallus,
Tyone, R.D. 1..There are three gandchildren. 
Also surviving are two sisters: Helen Parks, Cuba, N.Y.; and
Ruth Petricca, Burgettstown. Several nieces and nephews
survive.
Mrs. Gunsallus was preceded in death by two sons, Jeffrey and
Charles W. Jr., eight brothers and one sister. 
She was a member of the Tyrone Bible Baptist Church. 
She was last employed as a paper inserter/stuffer for the
Tyrone Daily Herald and The Daily News in Huntingdon for 11
years. 
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 9, at 11 a.m. at
the Derman Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone, with Pastor Jack A.
Park officiating. Interment will be made in the Blair Memorial
Park, Antis Township. 
Friends will be received at the funeral home Wednesday from 7
until 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 1O a.m. until the hour of
the service.

Connie Darlene (Sneath) Reed, 62, of Box 381-AA, Alexandria
R.R. 1, formerly of Box 401-C, Alexandria, R.D. 1, died
Friday, March 3, 2000, at 11:05 a.m., at Logan Township,
Alexandria, R.R. 1.     - 
Born July 29, 1937, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the
late Glenn W. Sneath and Erdine L. (Miller) Sneath, who
survives at her Alexandria residence. 
Three daughters and one son survive: Carolyn L. Whary,
Burnham; Cathy D. Perrin, Alexandria; Cindy J. Fabijance,
Niles, Ohio; and Glenn Daniel "Danny" McGinnis, Alexandria.
There are six grandchildren. 
Five sisters and,two brothers survive: Glenda C. Griffith,
Donna L. Rupert qnd Barbara H. Browne, all of Alexandria;
Shirley E. Harrington, California; Sandra G. Ewell, Earl M.
Sneath and Robert G. Sneath, all of Alexandria. 
One brother, Harry W. Sneath, preceded her in death. 
Mrs. Reed was a member of the Celebration House of Prayer,
Petersburg. She was a secretary and treasurer of the Harvest
Church. 
A 1955 graduate of the Juniata Valley High School, she was
primarily a homemaker. She had been a lifetime resident of
Huntingdon County. 
Mrs. Reed was a devoted mother and a born-again Christian,
devoted to her faith. She was a prayer warrior and intercessor
for many. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking and was loved
by all. 
A memorial service will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday,
March 7, at the Celebration House of Prayer, 402 Washington
St., Petersburg, with the Rev. Donald E. Malliband
officiating.

Minnie Ruth Reed, 66, of Janmes Creek, R.D.#l, died Sunday,
March 5, 2000, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon,
following a brief illness. 
Born June 18, 1933, in Hopewell Township, Huntingdon County,
she was the daughter of the late William C. and Mary M.
(Russell) Reed. 
She is survived by four brothers: Jack F. Reed and Paul R.
Reed, both of Martinsburg, John C. Reed, James Creek. R.D.;
and Thomas W. Reed, Saxton. One aunt, Minnie L. Clapper, also
survives. 
Miss Reed was a member of the St. Paul United Church of
Christ, Russellville, and the ladies auxiliary of the
Markiesburg Volunteer Fire Company. 
A 1952 graduate of the Saxton- Liberty High School, she
graduated in 1956 from the Harrisburg Polyclinic School of
Nursing. For over 25 years, she was employed as a registered
nurse at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital. 
She enjoyed watching sports on television. 
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 8, at 2 p.m.,
at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with the Rev.
Levain Fouse officiating. Interment will be made in the
Russellville Reformed Cemetery.

Inez V. Smith, 84, of Huntingdon Manor, Huntingdon, died
Friday, March 3, 2000, at 11:30 p.m., at the manor. 
Born Feb. 22, 1916, in Mount Union, she was the daughter of
the late William and Amanda (Kelly) Gloss. She married Esley
J. Smith, who preceded her in death Nov. 18, 1979. 
Surviving are two daughters and two step-daughters: Mrs. Harry
Genevieve) Barr, Huntingdon, R.D. 2; Mrs. Mary L. Bertres,
Petersburg; Mrs. Ethel Whitsel and Mrs. Edith Banks, both of
Mill. Creek. There are five grandchildren, six great-
grandchildren and a number of step- grandchildren and
step-great-grandchildren. 
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Viola Jane Smith; two
step-daughters, Grace Sausman and Helen Hostetter; and
step-sons Eugene, Floyd and Bruce. Mrs. Smith was the last
surviving member of her immediate family. 
She was of the Protestant faith. Funeral services will be held
Tuesday, March 7, at 2 p.m., at the Robert E. Peters Funeral
Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. William W. Kauffman
officiating. Interment will be made in the Mountainview
Cemetery in Mill Creek.

Brian A. Hazle, 20, of 1731 Trexell Court, Allentown, formerly
of Storrmstown, died Sunday, March 5, 2000, in Allentown. 
Born May 29, 1979, in State College, he was the son of Sharon
A. Snavely and Donald A. Hazle. 
Along with his parents, he is survived by a sister,
Stephanie,, in Millersville and a brother, Kevin, at home. A
paternal grandmother, Inez Hazle of Mansfield, Ohio, survives. 
Also surviving are an uncle and aunt, Donald and Judy Snavely
of Bellville, Ohio, along with several cousins. 
He was a member of the Halfmoon Christian Fellowship Church,
Stormstown. 
A 1997 graduate of the State College High School, he was a
junior at the Pennsylvania State University, majoring in
mechanical and engineering, currently doing a work experience
with Ingersoll Rand of Philipsburg, N.J. He enjoyed
computer-aided design, gardening and biking. He was an Eagle
Scout and enjoyed woodworking. 
A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, March 9, at
11 a.m., at the Halfmoon Christian Fellowship Church,
Stormstown, with the Rev. Stevan Atanasoff officiating.
Interment will be made in Grays Cemetery Halfmoon Township.

Harold Darien Sheasley, 73, of 307 16th St., Huntingdon, died
Monday, March 6, 2000, at 7:45 a.m., at J.C. Blair Memorial
Hospital, Huntingdon. He had been in failing health for a
number of years, but his death was unexpected. 
Bom June 11, 1926 in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late
Darien Orlady and Mercy Mae (Lewis) Sheasley. He married
Lillian Banks Aug. 7, 1950, in Winchester, Va. 
Mrs. Sheasley survives at home, along with two daughters:
Beverly A. Sheasley and Paula L. Sheasley, both of Huntingdon. 
The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was
preceded in death by a brother, George. 
Mr. Sheasley was a member of the Fifteenth  Street United
Methodist Church, Huntingdon. 
A veteran of World War 11, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in
1944 and served as a machinist aboard the USS Mamahagon in the
Pacific Theatre of War. 
After his discharge in 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Naval
Reserve until 1954. 
He retired in 1991, after 40 years of service at Buck's'
Laundry in Srnithfield Township.
He had been educated in the Huntingdon schools and had been a
lifelong resident of Huntingdon. 
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 8, at 2 p.m.,
at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the
Rev. David L. Dearing officiating.

Geraldine E. Beers, 64, died at 9:50 a.m. Monday, March 6,
2000, at her home in Cromwell Township, Huntingdon County,
following an extended illness. 
Born Feb. 26, 1936, in Dublin Township, Huntingdon County, she
was a daughter of the late Raymond E. Johnson and Ada Mary
(Leedy) Black. Her mother survives at Shirleysburg, R.D.,
along with her stepfather, Lorenzo Black. 
She was married for 46 years to Ward J. Beers, who survives at
their home. 
Four children survive: Shryl Ann Powell, Frederick, Md.;
Kenneth Beers and Bobbie Lynn Krell, both of Rockhill Furnace;
and Carole Diane Long, Baltimore, Md. There are five
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One sister, Jean
Edgin of Mount Union, and a brother, Gary Johnson of Shade
Gap, survive. 
Mrs. Beers was a member of the Rockhill Church of the
Brethren, where she had served as Sunday School teacher,
deaconess and was active in various church functions. 
She was a homemaker and at one time was employed by L. Greif
Brothers Manufacturing, Mount Union. 
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the
family. There will be no public viewing or visitation.

Emily 0. Campbell, 102, of 1007 Mifflin St., Saxton, died
Sunday, March 5, 2000, at Centre Crest Nursing Home,
Bellefonte.  
Born May 26,1897, in Burnside, she was the daughter of the
late Harry Conner and Mollie (Mahaf fey) Conner. She married
Lorain Moyer "Mike" Campbell June 24, 1924, in Altoona. He
preceded her in death October 1982. 
Surviving are four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. 
One son, Robert Campbell, preceded her in death Jan. 10, 2000. 
She was a member of the Saxton United Methodist Church. 
Mrs. Campbell was employed by Gables Department Store and
Sellers Jewelry Store in Altoona, before becoming a homemaker.
She was the last surviving member of the Ma Ali Mi Club in
Altoona and a group of eight lifelong friends who enjoyed
visiting, playing cards, shopping and camping along the
Juniata River. 
Mrs. Campbell enjoyed painting, knitting, playing bridge and
participating in senior citizens center activities. During her
husband's tenure as a Lions district governor, she traveled
with him to national conventions, club functions and served as
hostess at their home. 
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 9, at 3 p.m., at
the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with the Rev.
Charles Curley officiating. Interment will be made in the Alto
Reste Cemetery, Altoona, at the convenience of the family.

Daniel Paul Whitfield, 79, of 417 Stouffer Ave., Chambersburg,
died Monday, March 6, 2000, at 6:25 a.m., at ManorCare Health
Services, Chambersburg. 
Born Aug. 27, 1920, in Stonerstown, he was the son of the late
Sydney R. and Ella C. (Maddox) Whitfield. He married Velma
Nead Jan. 31, 1941, who survives in Chambersburg. 
Also surviving are a son, Daniel L. Whitfield and a daughter,
Mrs. Bryan (Susan E.) Maclnnes, both of Chambersburg. There
are five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. 
One brother, Robert Whitfield of Saxton, survives. 
An infant son, four brothers and one sister preceded him in
death. 
Mr. Whitfield had been a truck driver and retired in 1974 from
Letterkenny Army Depot after 31 years of service. After his
retirement, he had worked for a number of years in the
maintenance department of the former Franklin County Nursing
Home, Chambersburg. He had also prepared taxes for 15 years at
the Chambersburg Senior Center. 
A veteran of World War II, he was a life member of the Charles
W. McCleary Post No. 78, Disabled American Veterans,
Chambersburg, and the AARP. 
He was a member of the Pond Bank Independent Church, Pond
Bank, and enjoyed woodworking, fishing and hunting. 
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 9, at 10 a.m.,
at the chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333
Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, with the Rev. Mervil R.
Stambaugh officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1
p.m. at the IOOF Cemetery, Broad Top. Military graveside
services will be conducted by members of the Broad Top Area

Ruth L. Rinker, 85, of Camp Hill, died Thursday, March, 2,
2000, at Camp Hill Care Center. 
Born Sept. 19, 1914, in Wood, she was reared in Huntingdon
County.' 
She is survived by a son, John E. Rinker of Goldsboro, N.C.,
four grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. 
She was a retired computer operator for the New Cumberland
Army Depot. 
Mrs. Rinker was a member of the First Assembly of God Church,
Harrisburg.

Ralph L. "Sparky" Sheeder, 80, of Six Mile Run, died Monday,
March 6, 2000, at UPMC Bedford Medical Center, following a
lengthy illness. 
Born Feb. 12, 1920, in Six Mile Run, he was the son of the
late Ross "Babe" and Grace (Kline) Sheeder. He married Jeanne
Winter Dec. 1, 1955, in Hancock, Md. 
Mrs. Sheeder survives at home, along with two children: Sherri
Black, State College, and Brook Sheeder, Salemville. There are
two granddaughters. 
Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters:
Madeline Drenning, Saxton; Flo Pakula, Osterburg; June Keller,
Rainsburg; Bill Sheeder, Fayetteville; and Dallas Sheeder,
Reading. 
One brother preceded him in death. 
Mr. Sheeder was a member of the Church of God, Six Mile Run. 
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he was a member of the
American Legion of Six Mile Run and was a charter member of
the Six Mile Run Volunteer Fire Company. 
He owned and operated Sheeder's Garage in Six Mile Run and he
also worked there as a mechanic.

the Church of God, Six Mile Run, with the Rev. Stanley Cordell
officiating. Interment will be made in the Duvall Cemetery,

Carrie R. Ake, 63, of Huntingdon, R.R. 4, formerly of Roaring
Spring, State College and Morristown, N.J., died Wednesday
afternoon, March 8, 2000, at the Altoona Hospital. 
Born Nov. 28, 1936, in Roaring Spring, she was the daughter of
the late Merrill E. and Geraldine (Benner) Raugh. She married
James A. Ake April 26,1958, in Maryland. 
She is survived by her husband and four sons: James W. Ake,
Flemington, N.J.; David W. Ake, Mine Hill, N.J.; and twin sons
Stephen C. Ake of Hollidaysburg and John A. Ake of State
College. There are five grandchildren. 
One brother, Kenneth F. Raugh of Jeffersonton, Va., survives. 
Mrs. Ake was a member of the Stone Church of the Brethren,
Huntingdon, and was a former member of the church board of
administration. 
She served as a volunteer at the Middle District Office of the
Church of the Brethren, Huntingdon, and as a volunteer for
Meals on Wheels in the State College and Huntingdon areas. 
A 1955 graduate of Roaring Spring High School, she was the
high school May Queen her senior year. 
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 11,
in the J. Gary Thompson Funeral Home, 734 New St., Roaring
Spring, with Pastors Dale and Christy Dowdy officiating.
Interment will be made in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Roaring

Donna DeLuca, 50, of Saxton, R.D. 1, died Tuesday, March 7,
2000, at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring, following a brief
illness. 
Born April 2, 1949, in Middletown, she was the daughter of the
late Samuel E. and Madeline E. (Himes) Wise. She married James
DeLuca Aug. 17, 1968, in Saxton. Mr. DeLuca survives at home. 
Also surviving are three children: Angela DeLuca and Travis
DeLuca, both at home, and Mark DeLuca of Huntingdon. There, is
one grandchild. 
The following brothers and sisters survive: Nina McElwain,
Mechanicsburg; E. Lee Wise, Ohio; Jessie Wise, Middletown;
George Wise, Mercersburg; and Esther Clark, Saxton. 
Mrs. DeLuca was of the Protestant faith. 
She was employed by Quality Manufacturing in Saxton until it
closed and then worked for two years at R&R Vending.

Kathy Speck officiating. Interment will be made in the

Donald Jerome Hawn, 86, a resident of Huntingdon Manor,
formerly of Box 169, Petersburg, R.R. 2, West Township, died
Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at 5:22 p.m., at the manor. 
Born Jan. 14, 1914, in West Township, Huntingdon County, he
was the son of C. Oscar and Jennie (Green) Hawn. 
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, the former Dorothy J.
Cummins, two nieces, three nephews and several grandnieces and
grandnephews. 
One brother, Eldon H. Hawn of Petersburg, R.R. 2, also
survives. 
He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister: G.
Harold Hawn, Robert G. Hawn, Hazel C. Hawn and Charles 0.
Hawn. 
Mr. Hawn was a member of the Manor Hill United Methodist
Church, Huntingdon, R.R. 2, where he was a member of the Men's
Bible Class, sang in the choir and was a member of the Manor
Hill Charge United Methodist Men's Organization. 
During his life, he was in partnership with his brothers in
farming. He was also employed in sales with 
Hoffman Seeds for 36 years until his retirement and had also
sold farm equipment. 
He attended the West Township public schools and was a 1932
graduate of the Petersburg Vocational High School. 
He had been a resident of Huntingdon County since birth and
had lived at his current residence since 1957. 
Mr. Hawn loved music, played the violin in the school
orchestra, along with the guitar and harmonica. He also wrote
poetry. 
A funeral service will be held at the John B. Brown Funeral
Home, Inc., Huntingdon, Saturday, March 11, at 11 a.m., with
the Rev. Shirley J. Russell officiating. Interment will be
made in the Mooresville Cemetery, West Township, Petersburg,
R.R. 1.

Helen Miller, 75, of 1 School Lane, Wood, died unexpectedly at
9:25 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at J.C. Blair Memorial
Hospital, Huntingdon. 
Born Nov. 27, 1924, in Wood, she was the daughter of Wasco and
Eva (Warholic) Lashinsky. She married Ithel G. Miller Jan. 11,
1961, in Winchester, Va. He preceded her in death Nov. 4,
1970. 
She is survived by two children: Dorcas McCahan of Broad Top,
R.D., and George Miller, Wells Tannery. There are five
grandchildren. 
Also surviving are the following siblings: Paul Lashinsky, Six
Mile Run; Harry Lashinsky, Wasco Lashinsky and Steve
Lashinsky, all of Wood; Pete Lashinsky and Mary McCue, both of
Broad Top; and Annie Clark, Six Mile Run. 
Two brothers, George and John, preceded her in death.      
Mrs. Miller was a member of St. Michael's Greek Orthodox
Church, Wood. 
She was primarily a homemaker and a devoted grandmother. For a
number of years she worked as a welder in the Baltimore
shipyards. She was also employed by Owens Corning Fiberglas
and retired from Scampers Manufacturing, Saxton. 
She was an avid gardener. 
Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 12, at 2:30 p.m.
at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with the Rev.
Stephen Kundla officiating.  
Interment will be made in the Cherry Grove Cemetery, Three
Springs, R.D.

brothers: Tom Wise of Saxton and Mike Wise of Middletown. 

David Livingston Fisher Sr., 76. of James Creek, R.D. 1, died
Thursday, March 9, 2000, at 1:30 a.m., at his home. 
Born Jan. 5, 1924, in Lincoln Township, Huntingdon County, he
was the son of the late Charles Henry and Minnie Mae (Brindle)
Fisher. He married Grace Irene Morningstar Sept. 27, 1946. 
Mrs. Fisher survives at home, along with the following
children: Arlene Grace Shafer, Cape Cod, Mass.; Susan Eileen
Hoover, Huntingdon; David Livingston Fisher Jr., Huntingdon,
R.D. 3; Elaine Carol Fisher, Huntingdon, R.D. 4; Christopher
Charles Fisher, Snyder's Run Road, Huntingdon; and Lori Irene
Fisher, Seattle, Wash. There are 13 grandchildren and 14
great-grandchildren. 
One grandson, Paul Hoover, and a great-grandson, Colby Hoover,
preceded him in death. 
Also surviving are three siblings: Lee Elwood Fisher,
Huntingdon, R.D.; Helen Marie Hess, Saxton, R.D.; and Shelby
Jean Schoff, Smithfield, Huntingdon. 
Two sisters, Martha Birdine Hower and Louise Eleanor
Morningstar Rodgers, preceded him in death. 
Mr. Fisher was of the Methodist faith. 
A member of Standing Stone Post No. 1754 VFW, Huntingdon, he
served in the U.S. Army infantry as a medic during World War
II, with the Ninth Division in the European Theatre of War. 
He was the founder, owner and operator of Fisher's Garage at
Huntingdon, R.D. 4. He was well known for Volkswagen repairs.

Tim Shafer officiating. Interment will be made in the Reformed
Cemetery, Marklesburg.

Charles W. "Jelley" Wesner. 80, of Kennewick, Wash., formerly
of Huntingdon, died Monday, March 6, 2000, in Kennewick. 
Born June 3, 1919, in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late
Charles and Lulu Wesner. He married Helen Parsons, who
preceded him in death. 
One son, Bill Wesner of Kennewick survives, along with a
granddaughter in Ohio. 
One son, George Robert Wesner, preceded him in death. 
One sister, Ellen Jenkins of the Williamsport area survives. 
Mr. Wesner was a 1937 graduate of the Huntingdon High School.
He served  in the U.S. Army from 1945 until 1952 with the
131st Transportation Truck Battalion. 
He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict with the men of
Huntingdon County.

Brett Thane Burger, 32, of Plum Hollow Road, Hustontown, died
at 8:54 a.m. Sunday, March 12,2OOO, at the Fulton County
Medical Center, McConnellsburg. 
Born  April 4, 1967, in McConnellsburg, he was the son of the
late Orville "Bob" Burger and Brenda (Hann) Burger. His mother
survives in Fort Littleton, along with his stepfather, Ivan
McMullen. 
He married Dulce McMullen March 25, 1989. Mrs. Burger survives
at home. 
One daughter and three sons survive at home: Annissa Burger,
Dillen Burger, Brett Burger II and Cheyenne Burger. 
One sister and one brother survive: Bobbi Rager,
McConnellsburg and Brendan Burger, Hustontown. 
Mr. Burger was a member of the Freedom Worship Center, Fort
Littleton. He had been employed as a mechanic with Gaumer's
Chassis Engineering, Chambersburg. 
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 15,
at the M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, with Pastor Kevin
Wade officiating. Interment will be made in the Clear Ridge
Cemetery, North Clear Ridge Rd., Hustontown.

Lillian 0. Gutshall, 89, a resident of Orlando, Fla., since
1954, formerly of Orbisonia, died at 11:30 p.m. Thursday,
March 9, 2000, at Orange Memorial Hospital, Orlando, Fla. 
Born June 17, 1910, in Wood, she was a daughter of the late
Albert and Emma (Magee) Locke. She married Ralph D. Gutshall,
who preceded her in death Sept. 15, 1994. 
Two sons, Ralph Donald Gutshall Jr. of Reading, and William
Gutshall of Dade City, Fla., survive, along with eight
grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. 
Two brothers and two sisters are deceased. 
Mrs. Gutshall was a member of the Orbisonia United Methodist
Church and during her life was employed as a department store
salesclerk. 
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at
the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with the Rev.
David Ford officiating. Interment will be made in the
Orbisonia Cemetery.

Mildred N. Harry, 78, of U.S. Highway 522 S., MeVeytown, died
at 4:15 p.m. Friday, March 10, 2000, at the J.C. Blair
Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Her death was unexpected. 
Born Feb. 23, 1922, in Logan Township, Blair County, she was
the daughter of the late Walter J. and Christie A. (McMonigle)
Nolan. She was reared in the home of the late Walter and Maude
(Nolan) Gern. 
Her first husband, Clinton "Pint" Cramer, preceded her in
death March 21, 1966. She married Lantz A. Harry Feb. 9, 1967.
He preceded her in death Oct. 4. 1977.
Two children, Samuel N,.Cramer of Mount Union, R.D. 1, and
Mrs. Donald (Sandra E.) Stoner of McVeytown, R.D. 1, survive.
One stepdaughter, Mrs. Nelson (JoAnn) Baer of McVeytown, R.D.
1, survives. 
There are four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a
number of step-grandchildren and step- great-grandchildren. 
Two brothers, Walter Nolan and Stuart Nolan, and a
step-granddaughter preceded her in death. 
Mrs. Harry was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Altoona and
after moving to Mount Union she attended the Presbyterian
Church and later the Ryde United Methodist Church. 
A 1939 graduate of the Altoona High School, she served as tax
collector in Wayne Township, Mifflin County, for 20 years.
Prior to that, she had been employed at the Gay Shop in Mount
Union and at L. Greif Brothers Manufacturing, also in Mount
Union. 
She was a member of the Mifflin County Republican Committee
for many years. 
She loved reading. 
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 15,
at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the
Rev. Dayton Sines officiating. Interment will be made in the
Mount Union Cemetery.

until 9 p.m. and Wednesday after 9 a.m. until the hour of the
service.    

Betty Lucinda (Grose) Riden, 82, of Porter Township, Box 200,
Williamsburg Mountain Road, Huntingdon, R.D. 1, died Friday,
March 10, 2000, at 10 p.m., at the Arbutus Park Manor, 207
Ottawa St., Johnstown. She had been in failing health since
January. 
Born June 23, 1917, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the
late Harry Frank and Grace Ellen (Brantner) Grose. She was
united in marriage to Glen L. "Tucker" Riden June 14, 1952, in
Linwood. Mr. Riden preceded her in death Jan. 8, 2000. 
One stepson, Glen L. Riden Jr. of Ardmore, Ala., survives.
There are three step-grandchildren and three
step-great-grandchildren. 
Two sisters, D. Jane (Grose) Querry and Trudy E. (Grose)
Banks, both of Johnstown, survive. 
Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death: Richard 0.
Grose, Steward F.L. Grose and Margaret Bookheimer. 
Mrs. Riden was of the Methodist faith. 
She was employed as an agricultural stabilization officer at
the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 37 years. She retired
in June 1973 as the executive director of the Huntingdon
County office. 
She attended the Huntingdon public schools and was a 1936
graduate of the Huntingdon High School. 
Mrs. Riden enjoyed attending auctions and flea markets with
her late husband, and helping others. 
A funeral service will be held at the John B. Brown Funeral
Home, Inc., Huntingdon, Tuesday, March 14, at 2 p.m., with the
Rev. Doyle H. Klinger Jr. officiating. Interment will be made
in the Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Walker Township,
Huntingdon County.

Mary A. Ewing, 80, formerly of Mooresville, died Saturday,
March 11, 2000, at 9:10 p.m., at the Huntingdon Manor,
Huntingdon, where she had resided for the past six years. 
Born July 19, 1919, in Fulton County, she was the daughter of
the late Ambrose and Emma (Winters) Garlock. She married
George B. Ewing March 25, 1939, in Hagerstown, Md. He preceded
her in death Aug. 5, 1982. 
Surviving are five children: William S. Ewing, Mount Union;
George G. Ewing, Mooresville; Edward A. Ewing, Huntingdon,
R.D. 2; Fay Randolph, Indiana; and Flora Ewing, Petersburg.
There are 13 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She
was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was
of the Protestant faith. 
Mrs. Ewing was employed as a cook for various fraternities at
Penn State University and had also been employed at the sewing
factory in Mount Union at one time. 
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 16, at 2 p.m.,
at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the
Rev. John C. Pean officiating. Interment will be made in the
Mooresville Cemetery, Petersburg, R.D. 1.

Debra A. Edwards, 46, of 97 Liberty Lane, Reedsville, died at
1:36 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2000, at the Lewistown Hospital. 
Born June 3, 1953, in Allensville, she was the daughter of
Richard L. and Laura K. (Crownover) Yoder, who survive in
Allensville. She married. James H. Edwards, who survives in
Reedsville. 
One brother, Dennis R. Yoder of Allensville, survives. 
Mrs. Edwards was employed as a cashier at Giant Food Stores,
Burnham. A graduate of the Penn-Highland High School, she was
a member of the Humane Society.

Neff officiating.

Hannah Brooke Long, two-and one-half-month-old infant, of
Newton Hamilton, died at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, March 12, 2000, at
St. Christopher's Hospital, Philadelphia. Hannah has been ill
since birth with a rare disease. 
Born Dec. 21, 1999, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of
Lester Eugene Jr. and Nichole Diann (Bilger) Long, who survive
in Newton Hamilton, along with Hannah's sister, Rebekah
Elisabeth Long. 
The following grandparents also survive: Ronald and Annette
Bilger of Kistler, and Pauline Long, Selinsgrove. Surviving
great-grandparents are Fern and Ruth Parks, Silverford
Heights, Mount Union, R.D. 1, and Gertrude Bilger, Mount
Union. 
Also surviving are Hannah's godparents, Roger and Rose Wentz,
Silverford Heights, Mount Union, R.D. 1. 
Hannah was preceeded in death by her paternal grandfather,
Lester E. Long Sr. 
The funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday,
March 16, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union,
with the Rev. Gordon Ross officiating. Interment will be made
in the Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg, R.R. 1.

Jesse Albert Mills, 89, of 1401 Scott St., Huntingdon, died
Sunday, March 12, 2000, at 9:30 a.m., at J.C. Blair Memorial
Hospital, Huntingdon. He had been in failing health for the
past five months. 
Born Jan. 26, 1911, in Newton Hamilton, he was the son of the
late William and Blanche (Pressler) Mills. He was united in
marriage to Mary Elenora Roble July 28, 1949, in Huntingdon. 
Mrs. Mills survives at home, along with the following
children: Robert E. Mills, Mrs. Robert (Mary Ruth) Hornbaker
and Mrs. Jerry (Susan) McCracken, all of Huntingdon; Mrs. Mike
(Nina) Dimoff, Mount Union; and George W. Mills, Alexandria.
There are ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. 
One brother, Joseph A. Mills, and a sister, Mrs. Burton (Ruth)
Cox, both of Huntingdon, survive. 
He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers:
Beulah Sowers, Helen Keenan, Kenneth Mills and Richard Mills. 
Mr. Mills retired from the Joseph F. Biddle Publishing Company
in 1973, after 45 years of service. He was first employed as a
press operator, then in composition and was circulation
manager at the time of his retirement. 
He owned and operated The Palace Confectionery from 1969 until
1979 with his wife. 
Mr. Mills was a member of the Most Holy Trinity Roman Catholic
Church, Huntingdon. 
He was a member of the Frank P. Hommon American Legion Post
No. 24; life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No.
1754; and the, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 223, all of
Huntingdon. 
Educated in the Kistler public schools, he served in the U.S.
Navy from March 12, 1944, until Dec. 16, 1945. He served at
NTS Samson, New York; ATB Little Creek, Virginia; and aboard
the USS LSM 72. While serving in the Pacific Theatre, he was
awarded the Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal,
Asiatic-Pacific Medal with one star, and the Philippine
Liberation Medal. 
Mr. Mills had been a resident of Huntingdon County since 1928
after moving from Mifflin County, and had resided at his Scott
Street home since 1986. 
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, at
the Most Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Huntingdon, with
Monsignor David A. Lockard officiating. Committal will be made
in the Newton Hamilton Cemetery. Full military honors will be
observed at graveside services.

Cleo E. Brown, 87, of the Huntingdon Manor, formerly of
Dudley, died Monday, March 13, 2000, at the Huntingdon Manor,
following an extended illness. 
Born March 19, 1912, in Dudley, she was the daughter of the
late George F. and Sarah N. Hess. She married Jacob Frederick
Brown March 16, 1930, in Cumberland, Md. Mr. Brown preceded
her in death Oct. 8, 1980. 
Surviving are a son, George F. Brown of Dudley, and a sister,
Effie N. Kensinger of Weedsport, N.Y. There are five
grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren 
One son, Donald Vernon Brown; a sister, Ariel Leabhart; two
brothers, Amos Hess and Joseph Hess; and a great-grandchild
preceded her in death. 
Mrs. Brown was a member of the Dudley United Methodist Church,
where she was a former Sunday School teacher. 
During her life she was primarily a homemaker. She enjoyed
crochet- ing and listening to Christian music. She was also a
member of the Saxton Senior Citizens. 
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 16, at the
Dudley United Methodist Church, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Joan
Dugan officiating, assisted by Hap Ritchey. Interment will be
made in the Dudley Protestant Cemetery at the convenience of
the family.

7 until 9 p.m. and Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until the hour of
the service at the church.

Jerry L. Hileman, 64, of New Port Richey, Fla., died Monday,
March 13, 2000, at his home. 
Born in 1935, in Huntingdon, he is survived by his wife,
Glenna, and the following children: Mike, Kim, Jeff, Alan, Lee
Ann, Matt, Mark and seven grandchildren. 
Also surviving is a sister, Janet, and a brother, Garry. 
A respected professional in the food sales industry, Jerry was
well known in the southeast and southwest United States. 
He was a pioneer in the contract sales management founding Key
Sales and Marketing in 1982. Prior to that, he held key
positions with Morton Frozen Foods and Booth Fisheries. 
Mr. Hileman was an avid gardener, Atlanta Braves fan and
renowned BBQ chef. 
He had lived in Atlanta, Ga., for many years, before
relocating to Florida in 1996. 
A funeral service will be held Friday, March 17, at 11 a.m.,
at the St. Stephens Episcopal Church, New Port Richey, Fla.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 16, from 6 until 8
p.m.

Augustlea Laney, 91, of 3781 Cold Springs Rd., Huntingdon,
died Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at 2:35 a.m., at The Oaks,
Westminster Woods. 
Born July 25, 1908, in Whitaker, he was the son of the late
Lawrence Lee and Mary Elizabeth (Urias) Laney. He was united
in marriage to Margaretta F. Hawn July 31, 1937, in Michigan.
She preceded him in death Nov. 22, 1996. 
The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was
preceded in death by a sister, Gail C. Race, and two brothers,
Earl T. Laney and Kermit L. Laney. 
Several nieces and nephews survive. 
Mr. Laney was a member of the First Baptist Church,
Huntingdon. 
A certified chiropractor, D.C.- N.D., he practiced in the
Huntingdon County area, first from home and later from
satellite offices in towns throughout the county. 
A graduate of Munhall High School, Class of 1926, he was a
1934 graduate of Duquesne University and the Nashville College
of Drugless Therapy. 
He was a member of the Chiropractor Association and the
American Naturopathic Association of Tennessee, Inc. 
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of
the family at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon,
with the Rev. James L. Blair officiating. Interment will be
made in the Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon.

Lois Annabelle Walters, 76, of Warriors Mark, died Tuesday,
March 14, 2000, at her residence, following an extended
illness. 
Born June 6, 1923, in Wells Tannery, she was the daughter of
the late Charles W. and Matilda (Stunkard) Earley. She married
Clair V. Walters Aug. 31, 1942, who preceded her in death
March 2, 1983. 
One son and four daughters survive: Lester Walters, Warriors
Mark; Gayle Rhodes, Tyrone; Audrey Mountz, Warriors Mark; and
Arlene Miller and Eunice Cherry, both of Tyrone. There are 13
grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and five
step-great-grandchildren. 
One brother, Ralph Early of Wells Tanney, and a sister, Martha
Gobin of Carlisle, survive. 
One brother and one son preceded her in death. 
Mrs. Walters was a member of the Bible Baptist Church,
Warriors Mark. 
She was a past Lions Club member and belonged to the Ladies
Missionary Group at her church. She was primarily a
homemaker.  
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 16, at 11 a.m.,
at the Bruce E. Cox Funeral Home, Warriors Mark, with Pastor
Steven Bums officiating. Interment will be made in the Blair
Memorial Park, Bellwood.

Sergeant First Class William Van Ziegenfuss, 52, of Carlisle,
died Sunday, March 12, 2000, at his home. 
Born March 25, 1947, in Upland, he was the son of the late
Sylvanus Ziegen fuss and Clara Bowden, who 
survives. 
Also surviving are his wife of 30 years, Alice Marie
Ziegenfuss; a daughter, Senior Airman Alice Adessa; a son,
First Lieutenant Charles William Ziegenfuss, and a grandson. 
One sister, Charlotte Ann, also survives. 
Several relatives survive in the area, including Dorothy
Fortune, Mapleton, Mrs. Jerry (Dot) Janusziewicz; and Robert
W. Fortune, both of Huntingdon, mother, sister and brother of
Alice Marie. 
SFC Ziegenfuss retired from the U.S. Army in 1985, after 17
years of service. 
He fought in Vietnam as a combat medic with the First Infantry
Division, during the Tet offensive of 1968. 
For his actions in this campaign, he was awarded the Republic
of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and the Combat
Medical Badge. His other decorations include the Army
Commendation Medal and Army Achievement Medal. 
SFC Ziegenfuss was a graduate of the Sun Valley High School in
Chester and the Harrisburg Area Community College, where he
earned his associate degree in hotel and restaurant
management, graduating with honors. 
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 17, at
the U.S. Army War College Memorial Chapel. 

James William Hoffmaster Sr., 69, of 139 Hill St., Petersburg,
died Monday, March 13, 2000, at 10:50 p.m., at J.C. Blair
Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. He had been in failing health
since 1989. 
Born April 13, 1930, in Barree, he was the son of the late
William Carl and Leona Edna (McCarty) Hoffmaster. He married
Faye McGinnis May 20, 1950, in Hagerstown, Md 
Mrs. Hoffmaster survives at home, along with the following
children; Mrs. Robert (Juanita) Mays, Huntingdon; James W.
Hoffmaster Jr., Petersburg; Mrs. David (Julie Ann) Keith,
Entriken; Galen Carl Hoffmaster, Craig Hoffmaster, Mrs. Robert
(Laurie) Liveringhouse and Tracy L. Hoffmaster, all of
Petersburg. There are 23 grandchildren and 11
great-grandchildren. 
Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Charles (Josephine)
Bollienbacher, Spring City, and Lillian Gale Hurley, Casper,
Wy. 
Mr. Hoffmaster was a member of the Word of Life Fellowship,
Huntingdon, R.D. 2. 
He retired in 1989 from Conrail after working for 20 years as
a locomotive crane operator. 
After attending the Alexandria public schools, he served in
the U.S. Navy as a seaman apprentice aboard USS Huntington and
USS Cascade from Nov. 25, 1947, until Sept. 29, 1949. He was
awarded  the World War II Victory Medal. 
Mr. Hoffmaster enjoyed woodworking and watching hummingbirds.
In his earlier years, he was an avid scuba diver. 
A lifetime resident of the@ Juniata Valley, he had lived at
his Hill Street residence for 40 years. 
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 17, at 1 p.m., at
the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, 
Juniata Valley Chapel, 412 Main St., Alexandria, with the Rev.
Paul S. Bowen officiating. Interment will be made in the Cedar
Grove. Cemetery. Full military honors will be observed at the
graveside services.

Robert A. Weaverling, 82, of 600 Shoup St., Saxton, died
Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at 9 p.m., at J.C. Blair Memorial
Hospital, Huntingdon, following an extended illness. 
Born May 24, 1917, in Saxton, he was the son of the late
Charles and Mildred (Eichelberger) Weaverling. He was united
in marriage to Edna Horton May 17, 1942, in the Dudley
Methodist Church. 
Mrs. Weaverling survives at home, along with three daughters:
Sherry Ann Machado, Woodbridge, Va.; Kathy Jean Ford,
Independence, Ohio; and Judy Kay Mills, Saxton. There are six
grandchildren and one great-grandson. 
One sister, Marian Weir of State College, survives. 
Mr. Weaverling was a member of the Saxton United Methodist
Church, where he served as treasurer for many years. 
A 1936 graduate of the Saxton- Liberty High School and the
Altoona School of Commerce, he was a member of the Coast Guard
Auxiliary patrolling Raystown Lake and sat on the board of
directors of the Broad Top Area Medical Center. 
For 40 years, he was manager of the Pennsylvania State Liquor
Stores in Saxton and Bedford, retiring in 1984. 
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 18, at 2:30
p.m., at the Saxton United Methodist Church, with Pastor Todd
officiating. There will be no public viewing or visitation. 
Memorial contributions may be made to the. Saxton Community
Library or the Saxton United Methodist Church.

Harriet Marie LeCrone, 90, formerly of Alexandria, R.D. 1,
died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at 5:15 p.m., at The Oaks at
Westminster Woods, Huntingdon. She died following an extended
illness. 
Born March 14, 1910, in Grafton, R.D. (Hesston), she was the
daughter of the late William Luther and Malinda Florence
(Fisher) McCall. She was united in marriage to Paul Regis
LeCrone June 17, 1931, in Bellefonte. He preceded her in death
April 30, 1996. 
Two children, Pearl V. LeCrone and John E. LeCrone, both of
Alexandria, R.D. 1, survive. There are seven grandchildren, 12

She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Paul LeCrone; a
great- grandson, Alan Richard Lindsey; brothers David McCall,
William McCall, Melvin "Duff" McCall, Jackson "Jim" McCall and
Herman "Pete" McCall; and sisters Emma Kelly and Alice McCall. 
She was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church,
Alexandria, where she. was a Sunday School teacher and a
member of the Presbyterian Homes Auxiliary. She was also a
life member of the Hartslog Valley Grange; Huntingdon chapter
of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Order of the
Amaranth. 
She was employed by the J.C. Blair Company in Huntingdon, now
Mead Products in Alexandria. She was proud to have spent most
of her life as a farm wife. 
A 1929 graduate of the Alexandria High School, she enjoyed
cooking, gardening, sewing, crocheting, music and spending
time with her family. 
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 18, at 11
a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church, Alexandria, with the
Rev. John C. Dean officiating. Interment will be made in the
Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery, Alexandria.

Mabel Marcie Yetter, 91, a resident of ManorCare Health
Services, Chambersburg, for the past three months, formerly of
Wells Tannery, died at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, March 16, 2000, at
ManorCare. 
Born Nov. 25, 1908, in Shore Valley, Clay Township, Huntingdon
County, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Myra
(Mills) Bolinger. She married Clarence R. Yetter Dec. 25,
1928. Mr. Yetter preceded her in death Dec. 5, 1990. 
Two daughters, Joan Y. Wolfe and Clara L. Yetter, both of
Wells Tannery, survive. There are two grandchildren, two
great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. 
One sister, Madeline Bolinger McQuail of Saint Thomas
survives. 
Four brothers and four sisters preceded her in death. 
Mrs. Yetter was a member of the Pine Grove United Methodist
Church, Wells Tannery since 1936. She sang in the church choir
and served on numerous committees. She was a member of the
former Ladies Aide Society of the church. 
She was primarily a homemaker, devoted wife and dedicated
mother and grandmother. 
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 19, at
the M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, with Pastor George
Clippinger officiating. Interment will be made in the Wells
Tannery Methodist Cemetery, Wells Tannery.

Avril M. Kann, 95, formerly of Smithfield, Huntingdon, died
Friday, March 17, 2000, at the Altoona Hospital Center for
Nursing Care, Altoona, following a lengthy illness. 
Born Aug. 14, 1904, in New Washington, she was the daughter of
the late John and Mary Margaret (Chapman) Hipps. She married
Barton R. Kann Nov. 2, 1922, in Cum- berland, Md. Mr. Kann
preceded her in death Feb. 1, 1979. 
One daughter, Mrs. John (Jean) Meloy of Hollidaysburg
survives. There are two grandchildren and one
great-grandchild. 
Eight siblings preceded her in death. 
Mrs. Kann was a member of the Twelfth Street United Methodist
Church while residing in Huntingdon. She was educated in the
public schools in New Washington where she graduated from high
school. 
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 20, at
the John B. Brown Funeral Home, Inc., Huntingdon, with the
Rev. David L. Dearing officiating. Interment will be made in
the Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon.

Bryan E. Hipp, 16, of Altoona, R.D. 3, died Thursday, March
16, 2000, at his home. 
Born Oct. 25, 1983, in Huntingdon, he was the son of Karen A.
Stiffler of Huntingdon and Robert J. Hipp of Altoona, R.D. 3. 
Surviving along with his parents are his stepmother, Rebecca
(McCloskey) Hipp, Altoona, R.D. 3; sister Brittany D. Hipp,
Huntingdon; and the following grandparents: Alberta L.
Stiffler, Huntingdon; and Joseph and Florence Hipp, also of
Huntingdon. 
His grandfather, Elvin E. Lewis, preceded him in death. 
Bryan was a ninth grade student at the Tyrone Area High
School. He worked part time at Luzerne Farms in Huntingdon
Furnace. 
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 20, at 2 p.m., at
the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev.
Mark S. Egli officiating. Interment will be made in the
Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. There will be no public

John C. Houck Sr., 62, a resident of Bowser's Personal Care
Home, Alexandria, formerly of 18 Newport Dr., Columbia, S.C.,
died Saturday, March 18, 2000, at 8: 10 p.m., at J.C. Blair
Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. 
Born July 24, 1937, in Dudley, he was the son of the late
Marshall E. Houck Sr. and Catherine (Cook) Houck, who survives
in Alexandria. 
One son and one daughter survive: John C. Houck Jr., Columbia,
S.C., and Deborah E. Ammerman, Huntingdon. There are four
grandchildren. 
Two sisters and one brother survive: Audrey J. Houck,
Alexandria; Mrs. Dale (Joellen) Houp, Huntingdon; and Marshall
E. Houck Jr., Stewartstown. 
Mr. Houck was a member of the Most Holy Trinity Catholic
Church, Huntingdon. 
He retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas in 1988 after
approximately 30 years of service. He was educated in the
Juniata Valley public schools and was a 1955 graduate of the
Juniata Valley High School. He also graduated from the Stevens
Trade School in Lancaster as a machinist. 
He had been a long-time resident of Huntingdon County. He had
been an avid outdoorsman and a fine friend. 
A vigil for the deceased will be held at the John B. Brown
Funeral Home, Inc., at 8:30 p.m. this evening. 
A funeral Mass will be held at the Most Holy Trinity Catholic
Church, 524 Mifflin St., Huntingdon, Tuesday, March 21, at 10
a.m., with Monsignor David A. Lockard officiating. Interment
will be made in the Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery,
Alexandria.

Richard H. Rhoat Sr., 56, of Robertsdale, R.D. 1, died at
10:10 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2000, at the Fulton County
Medical Center, following an extended illness. 
Born March 24, 1943, in Robertsdale, he was the son of the
late John Willington Rhoat and Veda (Hess) Rhoat, who
survives. He was united in marriage to Margaret Nichols May
12, 1965. 
His wife survives, along with three children: Richard H. Rhoat
Jr., Everett; John N. Rhoat, Pittsburgh; and Charles E. Rhoat,
Saxton, R.D. 
Also surviving are one sister, Kathy Cross of Robertsdale, and
the following brothers: John S. Rhoat, Tom Rhoat and Tim
Rhoat, all of Robertsdale, and Jeff Rhoat of Wells Tannery. 
One brother and one sister pre ceded him in death. There are
six grandchildren. 
As a child, he attended the New Grenada Church of God. 
During his life he worked on construction sites. He was in the
U.S. Army from April 5, 1960, until April 4, 1966.  
He enjoyed woodworking and fishing. 
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 22, at 2 p.m.,
at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home, Broad Top, with Pastor
Donald Simmons officiating. Interment will be made in the
Rhoat Cemetery, Saxton, R.D., at the convenience of the

Ray G. Wyles, 86, of 1871 Pinchot Rd., Saxton, died Saturday,
March 18, 2000, at 8:15 pm at 
UPMC Bedford Medical Center following an extended illness. 
Born Nov. 15, 1913 in Saxton, he was the son of the late
Daniel M. and Bertha (Dickinson) Wyles. He was united in
marriage to Arlene Streepy Dec. 7, 1943, in Hopewell. 
Surviving, along with his wife, are the following children:
Nancy Heath, Akron, Ohio; Gary J. Wyles, Terry L. Wyles and
Timothy L. Wyles, all of Saxton, R.D. There are ten
grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. 
One sister, Perthenia "Teeny" Rinard of Sandy Ridge, survives. 
He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert and Donald; two
brothers, Warren Wyles and Milton Wyles; and two sisters,
Peggy Butts and Grace Smith. 
Mr. Wyles was a member of the Raystpwn Brethren Church and the
Broad Top Area Senior Citizens Center. 
For a number of years he was a farmer and retired in 1967 from
PennDOT.

Marshall Bivens Jr., 66, of North Clear Ridge Road,
Hustontown, died at 3:45 a.m. Monday, March 20,2000, at the
Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg. 
Born March 24,1933, in Wood, he was the son of the late
Marshall Sr. and Stella (Meck) Bivens. He was united in
marriage to Mary Groff June 8, 1963. 
Mrs. Bivens survives, along with a stepson, Charles E. Groff
Jr., Everett. There are six step-grandchildren and five
step-great-grandchildren. 
Also surviving are a brother and four sisters: William Bivens,
Salem, Ala.; Jessie Alther, Middletown; Lois Rohrer,
Waterfall; Shirley Albert, Leesburg, Va.; and Jackie Ramper,
Harrisburg. 
Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death. 
Mr. Bivens was of the Protestant faith. 
He  was a member of the Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Company
and Fire Police. He had worked in a furniture factory in Ohio. 
A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Army. 
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at
the M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, with Pastor Belvy C.
White officiating. Interment will be made in the Wells Valley
Methodist Cemetery, Wells Tannery.

Bernice Madelene Black, 87, of Woodland Retirement Center,
Orbisonia, died at 2:15 a.m. Monday, March 20, 2000, at the
retirement center. 
Born July 13, 1912, in Waterfall, she was the daughter of the
late John and Flossie (Knepper) Shaw. She married Albert J.
Black Oct. 10, 1934. He preceded her in death Nov. 24, 1985. 
One daughter, Mrs. Donald (Nancy) Stidfole of Lewistown,
survives, along with two grandchildren and one
great-granddaughter. 
Two brothers, Harold Shaw of McConnellsburg, and Amos Shaw,
Hustontown, also survive. 
Mrs. Black attended the Orbisonia United Methodist Church and
was a homemaker. 
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 24, at
the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with Pastor Rick
Eminhizer officiating. Interment will be made in the Haven
Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg.

Dr. Ronald L. Cherry, 68, of 1830 Mifflin St., Huntingdon,
died Sunday, March 19,2000, at 10 p.m., at J.C. Blair Memorial
Hospital, Huntingdon. He had been in failing health for the
past two months. 
Born Nov. 25, 1931, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late
Charles J. and M. Margaret (Laird) Cherry. He was united in
marriage to Elizabeth Ann Ellis Aug. 24, 1957, in Huntingdon.
Dr. Calvert N. Ellis officiated at the wedding ceremony. 
Mrs. Cherry survives at home, along with two children: Charles
C. Cherry, Chicago, Ill.; and Anne Elizabeth Rice,
Greencastle. There are two grandchildren. 
Dr. Cherry was a member of the Stone Church of the Brethren,
Huntingdon. 
A former president and trustee of the Huntingdon County
Historical Society, Dr. Cherry also served on the board of
Swigart Associates for 15 years, and retired in June 1999 from
the board of Mutual Benefit Insurance Company after 16 years.
He had also served on the board of the J.B. Kunz Company for
15 years. 
He had been a resident of Huntingdon County since 1958 and had
lived at his current residence since 1962. A true central
Pennsylvania native, all 16 of his great-great- grandparents
resided within 50 miles of Tyrone. 
He enjoyed model railroading, genealogy and flower gardening. 
A memorial service will be held at the Stone Church of the
Brethren Sunday, March 26, at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Dale W.
Dowdy and the Rev. Christy L. Dowdy officiating. Interment
will be private and at the convenience of the family at the
Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood. 
Friends will be received at the church following the memorial
service.

George F. Brown, 69, of Box 2045, Dudley, died Monday, March
20, 2000, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. His
death was unexpected. 
Born March 19, 193 1, in Dudley, he was the son of the late
Jacob Frederick and Cleo E. (Hess) Brown. He married Ollie
Lockard April 9,1953, in Hagerstown, Md. 
Surviving are his wife and several nieces and nephews. 
One brother, Donald Vernon Brown, preceded him in death. 
Mr. Brown attended the Dudley Methodist Church as a child. 
He worked for the U.S. Forestry Department from 1972 until
1986. 
He graduated from the Saxton- Liberty High School in Saxton
and in 1951 from God's Bible School and College in Cincinnati,
Ohio. 
He was an avid coin collector and hunter. 
A brief service will be held at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral
Home, Broad Top, Thursday, March 23, at 8:30 p.m., with Pastor
JoAnne Dugan officiating.

Catherine M. Straley, 88, of Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg,
died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at Messiah Village. 
Born in Smithfield, Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the
late William and Nora (Coffman) Herncane. She was the widow of
Joseph M. Straley. 
Several nieces and nephews survive. 
Mrs. Straley was a member of the Church of God, Harrisburg. 
She retired from the former Telegraph Press of Harrisburg.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 24, in the Neill
Funeral Home, 3401 Market St., Camp Hill. Interment will be
made in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

Robert "Bob" Winnick of Wilmington, N.C., died Sunday, March
19, 2000, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. 
Born Sept. 17, 1915, in Orbisonia, he was the son of the late
Robert and Mary (Flasher) Winnick. 
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Virginia Lee,
in 1996. 
Two sons and two stepdaughters survive: William R. Winnick,
Yspsilanti, Mich.; Richard D. Winnick, Beaver Island, Mich.;
Mrs. Norman (Janice) Miller and Jean Lee Cherry, Wilmington,
Del. There are one grandson and four step-grandchildren. 
Also surviving are the following siblings: Howard Winnick,
Rockhill Furnace; Earl Winnick, Dunbridge, Ohio; Zelda Taylor,
Ormond Beach, Fla.; Grace Leggin, Butler, Va.; and Hazel
Winnick, Huntingdon. 
Two brothers, Leroy and Lloyd Winnick, preceded him in death.
Mr. Winnick was a resident of the Hillhaven/Cypress Point
Nursing Home for the past ten years. He was affectionately
known as "The Mayor." He was president of the Resident's
Council and served as the staff photographer and delivered the
daily mail. 
He was an avid gardener and maintained a vegetable and flower
garden to the enjoyment of the residents. 
Mr. Winnick was a retired painter and interior decorator. He
was a life member of the BPO Elks No. 532. 
Graveside service will be held Thursday, March 23, at 3 p.m.,
at Oleander Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7
until 8 p.m. this evening at the Andrew Mortuary, Market
Street Chapel., Wilmington, N.C. 


Reginald A. Lundquest, 86, of 801 Liberty St., Saxton,
formerly of Riddlesburg, died March 21, 2000, at 1:48 a.m., at
the emergency room of J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital,
Huntingdon. He died following an extended illness. 
Born Oct. 25, 1913, in Riddlesburg, he was the son of the late
William A. and Minnie (Kitt) Lundquest. He married Ruth Andre
Feb. 1, 1947, in Doylestown, Ohio. 
Mrs. Lundquest survives at home, along with two daughters:
Sylvia J. Melius, Riddlesburg; and Shirley Ann Lucas,
Shippensburg. There are three grandchildren and one
great-grandchild. Two grandchildren preceded him in death. 
Also surviving are two brothers and two sisters: James
Lundquest, Everett; Jack Lundquest of Pahrump, Nev.; Mrs. Paul
(Sylvia) Johnson, Mountain Lake Terrace, Wash.; and Mrs.
Milford, (Joan) Swain, Doylestown, Ohio. 
One sister and five brothers preceded him in death: Dorothy
Lundquest, Ned Lundquest, Nelson Lundquest, Willis Lundquest,
Fred Lundquest and Warren Lundquest.
Mr. Lundquest was of the Protestant faith. 
He was a member of the Huntingdon Moose Lodge No. 223, the
Wanbick Tribe of Redmen, Everett, and the Six Mile Run Fire
Police. 
He was employed by the Riddlesburg Furnace and Coke Ovens; was
a coal miner; owned and operated a trucking company that
hauled for Broad Top Township; and worked on the Pennsylvania
Turnpike. He retired in 1970 as owner and operator of
Riddlesburg Garage. In his spare time, he was a Maytag washer
repairman until age 84, when his health deteriorated. 
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 23, at I p.m.,
at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with the Rev.
Buddy Baird officiating. Interment will be made in the
Hopewell Cemetery.

Hazel E. Long, 92, formerly of 1115 Washington St.,
Huntingdon, died Monday, March 20, 2000, at 4 p.m., at the
Valley View Retirement Community, Belleville. 
Born March 8, 1908, in Norris, Hill Valley, she was the
daughter of the late Harrison F. and Emma C. (Atherton) Long. 
One daughter, Mrs. Lloyd (Mae L.) Brunner of Sebring, Fla.,
survives, along with two granddaughters and four
great-grandchildren. 
Also surviving are two brothers: Rufus Long, Huntingdon, R.D.
3; and Oscar Long, Shirleysburg. 
She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister:
James Long, Herbert Long, William Long and Myra Baker. 
Ms. Long was a member of the Ardenheim Church of the
Brethren.  
She owned and operated her own beauty shop in Huntingdon from
1941 until her retirement in 1994. Prior to that, she had
worked at the Huntingdon Throwing Mill and the William Neff
Beauty Shop in Huntingdon. 
She attended the Zeth School of Commerce in Altoona and the
Nelson Beauty Academy in Huntingdon. 
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of
the family. Interment will be made in the Goodman Cemetery,
Huntingdon, R.D. 3. 
Following Ms. Long's request, there will be no public
visitation.

Annie Anderson, 80, of 34 Hollow Drive, Mount Union, died at
3:10 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at the Ohesson Manor
Nursing Home, Lewistown. She had been in failing health. 
Born Feb. 19, 1920, in Hawstone, Mifflin County, she was the
daughter of the late Peter and Katie (Prokopief) Anderson. 
The following brothers and sisters survive: Nicholas Anderson,
Harrisburg; John Anderson, Lewistown; and Mitch Anderson and
Mary Anderson, both of Lucy Furnace, Mount Union. 
One sister and three brothers preceded her in death: Alice
Anderson, Michael Anderson, Harry Anderson 
and Paul Anderson. 
Miss Anderson was baptized in the Orthodox faith. 
A 1937 graduate of the Mount Union High School, she retired in
1973 from L. Greif Brothers Manufacturing, Mount Union, after
35 years of service. 
She loved gardening and was especially fond of raising
dahlias. 
A Panachida will be held at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home,
Mount Union, at the convenience of the family, with the Rev.
Stephen Kundla officiating. Interment will be made in the
Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg, R.D. 1.

Eugene W. Cypher, 100, of P.O. Box 162, Mill Creek, died at
3:40 a.m. Wednesday, March 22,2000, at the J.C. Blair Memorial
Hospital, Huntingdon. 
Born Jan. 29, 1900, in Stonerstown, Huntingdon County, he was
the son of the late William and Harriet (Fink) Cypher. He was
united in marriage to Jennie Wiser Sept. 9, 1929, in
Cumberland, Md. 
Mrs. Cypher survives at home, along with the following
children: Mrs. Richard (Angeline) Isenberg Norristown; Violet
Garman, Dean Cypher and Virgil Cypher, all of HCR 61, Mill
Creek. 
There are 13 grandchildren, and a number of
great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. 
Mr. Cypher was. preceded in death by a son, Calvin Cypher; a
granddaughter, Kaydean Cerett; and his brother and sister,
Edward Cypher and Violet Kieke; and his twin brother, Glenn
Cypher. 
Mr. Cypher attended the Mount Union schools. 
As a young man, he worked at a boiler factory in Texas for a
short while and later as a pipethreader in Cleveland, Ohio. At
one time, he also worked on the construction of the Neu Bridge
in Mount Union. 
in 1927, he began his employment with Harbison-Walker
Refractories in Mount Union, working in 
the machine shop as a pattern maker for bricks. From 1931
until 1933, he worked in Lancaster in the 
construction of the Safe Harbor Dam, which still provides
electric power. 
In 1933, he returned to Harbison- Walker, where he helped in
the building process of the stone base for the old dinky
bridge, and resumed his former job as a pattern maker. He
continued his employment with Harbison-Walker until his
retirement in 1963. 
Mr. Cypher was interested in baseball, playing third base for
the Mount Union Baseball Team in 1927. He pitched the first
ball at the Old Timers baseball game in Mill Creek 72 years
later, July 17, 1999. 
For a number of years, Mr. Cypher also farmed. On his
property, he enjoyed flower gardening and planting trees. He
took a "Truman walk" around his property each day until this
past year. 
He was of the Protestant faith. The funeral service will be
held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 24, at the Robert D. Heath
Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. George Buddy Baird
officiating. Interment will be made in the Mountainview

Noel "Peck" Davis, 37, of 220 Starlight Dr., Rockwell, N.C.,
died Tuesday, March 21, 2000. 
Born Dec. 2, 1962, in Huntingdon, he was the son of Harry
"Peck" and Shirley (Lehew) Davis. He was united in marriage to
Susan Weir April 12, 1985, at the First United Methodist
Church, Huntingdon. 
Along with his parents and wife, he is also survived by two
children at home: Kourtney, 12, and Kyle, 9. 
Three brothers and one sister survives: Mitchell Davis,
Indianapolis, Ind.; Chris Davis, J. Phil Davis and Leah Davis,
all of Huntingdon. 
A 1980 graduate of the Huntingdon Area High School, Mr. Davis
was self-employed in the floor covering business. 
A memorial service will be held Monday, March 27, at 6 p.m.,
at the McConnellstown Church of the Nazarene, formerly the
Woodcock Elementary School, New Town Avenue, McConnellstown. A
memorial service is also being held in North Carolina Friday
evening, March 24. 
Friends  may call at the McConnellstown Fire Hall following
the memorial service Monday evening.

Lyle V. "Wimp" Pecht Sr., 62, of Huntingdon, R.R. 3, died
Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at 8:45 p.m., in the emergency room
of J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. 
Born June 22, 1937, in McVeytown, he was the son of the late
George and Alice (Vaughan) Pecht. He married Darlene L.
Ellenberger May 22, 1966, in the Mill Creek Methodist Church.
The Rev. Beard officiated at the ceremony. 
Mrs. Pecht survives at home, along with the following
children: Mrs. Kevin (Shirley) Beatty, Huntingdon; Mrs. Lester
(Jody) McCartney, Mrs. Michael (Leslie) McDermott and Mrs.
Kevin (Kristi) Stetchock, all of Huntingdon, R.R. 3. There are
seven grandchildren. 
Two sons and a daughter,   Randy L. Pecht, Lyle V. Pecht Jr.
and Janice L. Pecht, preceded him in death. 
The last surviving member of his immediate family, Mr. Pecht
was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Fortney. 
Mr. Pecht was of the Methodist faith. 
He was a member of the National Rifle Association. 
He retired in 1999 from the Huntingdon Area School District.
Prior to that he worked for 17 years at North American
Refractories in Mount Union. 
Mr. Pecht enjoyed hunting and auto racing, especially at the
Hesston Speedway. 
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 24, at 2 p.m., at
the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with Joseph
Barrett Jr. officiating. Interment will be made in the
Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Huntingdon, R.R. 1.

from 9 a.m, until the hour of the service on Friday. 

Raymond F. Stapleton, 91, of 2019 Pinchot Rd., Saxton, died
Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at 8 p.m., at the Altoona Hospital.
He died following a brief illness. 
Born July 9, 1908, in Saxton, he was the son of the late
Howard C. and Sara (Coy) Stapleton. He was united in marriage
to Mary Wyles Sept. 29, 1928, in Cumberland, Md     
Mr. Stapleton is survived by his wife at home, and the
following children: Charles Stapleton and Sara Miller, both of
Saxton, R.D.; Samuel Ted Stapleton, Enola; Mrs. Gerald (Judy)
Burket, Saxton, R.D. There are 16 grandchildren and 26
great-grandchildren. 
Also surviving are two siblings: Martha Nufranick, Saxton; and
George Stapleton, Duncansville. 
Mr. Stapleton was preceded in death by three sons and a
daughter, William, James, Robert and Dorothy; a grandson; and
two brothers and two sisters, Earl, Walter and Helen Stapleton
and Lillian Smith. 
He was a member of the Raven Run Church of the Brethren, where
he served as deacon, treasurer and Sunday School teacher. He
had perfect attendance for 54 years at his church. 
Mr. Stapleton was a coal miner and farmer for many years. He
retired in 1971 from the Tussey Mountain School District where
he worked as a custodian. 
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 24, at 2 p.m., at
the Raven Run Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Dan Hammel
officiating. Interment will be made in the Grandview Cemetery,
Saxton, R.D.

this evening from 7 until 9 p.m. and Friday from 1 p.m. until
the hour of the service at the church.

Eugene C. MILLER, 93, formerly of Rockhill Furnace, died at
11:40 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at the Woodland
Retirement Center, Orbisonia. 
Born March 13, 1907, in Brownsville, Fayette County, he was
the son of the late Clyde and Nancy (Detwiler) Miller. He
never married. 
One brother, Clistis C. Miller of Middletqwn, Va., and a
half-brother, Paul Booher of Orbisonia, survive. Seven
half-brothers and one half-sister preceded him in death. 
Mr. Miller was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. 
He was employed by the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad as a
conductor and retired from the Shirley Home for the Aged,
Shirleysburg, in 1985. 
A veteran of World War 11, Mr. Miller served in the U.S. Army
in the European Theatre and was involved in the Normandy
invasion. 
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25,
at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with the Rev.
Darrell Nicklow officiating. Interment will be made in the
IOOF Cemetery, Rockhill Furnace.

one hour prior to the service on Saturday. 

Agnes V. ULSH, 87, formerly of Orbisonia, more recently of
State College, died at 5:30 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2000, at
Centre Community Hospital, State College. 
Born May 15, 1912, at Blairs Mills, she was a daughter of the
late Dr. James M. and Lula Grace (Parsons) Fleming. She
married Eugene W. "Andy" Ulsh May 8, 1937. Mr. Ulsh preceded
her in death April 17, 1992. 
Surviving are two children: Karel J. Ulsh and Charles A. Ulsh,
both of State College. There are two grand- children and a
great-granddaughter. 
One sister, Edna Nickel of Loysville, survives. 
Two sons, James D. and Gene M.; a sister, Anabel Turbett; and
a brother, James, preceded her in death. 
Mrs. Ulsh was a member of the Orbisonia United Methodist
Church, where she belonged to the Gleaners Sunday School
Class. Throughout the years, she had been active in various
church functions. 
A graduate of the Orbisonia High School Class of 1930, she was
also a graduate of the Thompson Business College in York. 
Along with being a homemaker, she was a Tupperware saleswoman
in the 1950s and 1960s and had been a teacher's aide at
Tuscarora Intermediate Unit in McVeytown. 
Mrs. Ulsh enjoyed music, cooking, baking and gardening. 
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 26, at
the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with the Rev.
Rick Eminhizer officiating. Interment will be made in the IOOF
Cemetery, Rockhill Furnace.

Saturday and from 10 a.m.. until the hour of the service on

Kendra Lynn McCLEARY, 2, of 210 Second Street, Belleville.
died Wednesday. March 22. 2000 at her home. 
She was born Feb. 18. 1998. in Lewistown. She is survived by
her parents, Terry McCleary of Carlisle and Deborah J. White
of Belleville. 
She is also survived by her brother, Bryson E. Wilkinson of
Belleville. her maternal grandmother, Gloria Immel of
Huntingdon and,her maternal great-grandfather, Kenneth Cox of
Kistler. 
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, March 26. at
the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home in Mount Union, with the Rev.
Gordon Ross officiating. Interment will be made in the Haven
Rest Memorial Park, Shirelysburg, R.R. 1.

Robert G. LEAR Sr., 78, of R.R. 1, Box 270, Mount Union, died
at 9:04 p.m., Thursday, March 23, 2000. at J.C. Blair Memorial
Hospital, Huntingdon. His death was unexpected. 
Born Feb. 5, 1922, in Hollidaysburg, he was the son of the
late Herbert W. and Minnie Idella (Stiffler) Lear. He. married
Betty. J. Manspeaker Feb. 16, 1942. His wife preceded him in
death May 24, 1997. 
Mr. Lear is survived by four sons: Herbert W. Lear, Robert G.
Lear, H. Jim Lear and Barry S. Lear, all of whom reside in
Mount Union. He is also survived by a sister, Betty J. Hartman
of Altoona. Eight grandchildren and four great- grandchildren
also survive. 
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters:
Clyde Lear, Pete Lear, Sheldon Lear, Beatrice Suckling and
Marie Snoberger. 
Mr. Lear was of the Protestant faith. 
He retired from the Pennsylvania Glass Sand Corporation in
Mapleton after 31 years of service. Prior to that, he worked
15 years for the Pennsylvania Railroad. 
He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during World War 11 and
was a member of the American Legion Post 107 in Mount Union
and the VFW Post 5754, also in Mount Union. 
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of
the family on Monday, March 27, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral
Home in Mount Union, with Pastor William Wo1lett officiating.
There will be no viewing or visitation. 
Interment will be made in the Haven Rest Memorial Park,
Shirleysburg, R.R. 1.

Albert S. TRAXLER, 69, of R.R. I Box IB, Hesston, died 10:05
a.m., Thursday, March 23, 2000, at J.C. Blair Memorial
Hospital. 
Born Oct. 18, 1930, in Jackson Township, Huntingdon County, he
was the son of the late Charles Henry and Ida (Hertzler)
Traxler. He married Janet Miller, who preceded him in death in
1966. He then married Carol A. Shoemaker August 15, 1970, at
the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. William
Kauffman officiating. Mrs. Traxler survives at their home. 
Mr. Traxler is also survived by a son, Charles Traxler of
Martinsburg, and a daughter, Kathy Diehl of McConnellstown. He
is also survived by four sister: Elsie Forshey of Huntingdon,
R.R. 2; Sarah Smith of Belleville; Nancy Brown of Belleville
and Mary Lou Holland of Huntingdon, R.R. 3. Two grandchildren
also survive. 
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Smith. 
Mr. Traxler was a member of St. Paul's United Church of
Christ, Hesston. 
He was a member of the Marklesburg Volunteer Fire Company and
worked on various farms in the Huntingdon County area. He also
worked at Miller's Hardware Store in Huntingdon for a few
years. 
A funeral service will be held Sunday, March 26, at 2 p.m., at
the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home in Huntingdon, with the Rev.
H. Lloy Blattenberger and the Rev. James L. Blair officiating.

James W. CHAMPION, 73, of 115 S. Water, Mill Hall, died Saturday, March
25, 2000, at Lock Haven Hospital. Born Nov. 30,1926, in Pontotoc, Miss.,
he was the son of the late John W. and Dona (Crossno) Champion. He
married Pauline M. McManus Nov. 15,1955. Along with his wife, he is
survived by three sons: T. Michael Champion and Stephen M. Champion,
both of Mill Hall, and James D. Champion, Mississippi. There are three
grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. Two of his wife's sisters
survive at Petersburg, R.R. 1. Two brothers and two sisters also
survive: Jeff D. Champion, Augusta, Ga.; J.W. Champion, Pontotoc, Miss.;
Opal Gerheim, New Albany, Miss.; and Dorothy Holmes, Tupelo, Miss.
Several nieces and nephews survive. Mr. Champion was a 1945 graduate of
New Albany High School in Mississippi. He worked for Clinton Paper Co.
for 25 years, retiring in 1982. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served
during World War 11 and during the Korean Conflict. He was also a member
of the Mississippi National Guard, the Pennsylvania National Guard and a
charter member of the Clinton County Search and Rescue Team. A member of
the Manor Hill United Methodist Church, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and
wood working. A memorial service will he held Tuesday, March 28, at 7
p.m., at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Flemington. Graveside
services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Mooresville Cemetery,
with the Rev. William Kauffman and Lay pastor Jeff Glenny officiating.

Mary Ann O'HAGAN, 60, of 912 Spring St., Saxton, died Sunday, March 26,
2000, at her son's home, where she had been residing. Born July 30,
1939, in Manhattan, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and
Martha (Muir) McCloughlin. She was the wife of George O'Hagan, who
preceded her in death May 29, 1996. The mother of two sons, she is
survived by Brian O'Hagan of Mine Hill, N.J., and Robert O'Hagan of
Saxton. There are two grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers,
Thomas McCloughlin of Newton, N.J., and Richard McCloughlin, Hackensack,
N.J. Mrs. O'Hagan was of the Catholic faith. She was a member of the
Watson-Black Post No. 126 American Legion ladies auxiliary. As a young
woman, Mary Ann worked for a prestigious accounting firm in Manhattan,
later working for Sears, Inc., and for the last several years for the
Coffee Shop in Saxton. Mrs. O'Hagan excelled at cross- word puzzles,
enjoyed cooking for her family and bingo. Funeral services will be held
Wednesday, March 29, at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home, Broad Top,
with Monsignor William Shultz officiating. Interment will be made in the
IOOF Cemetery, Broad Top. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday,

Anna Margaret WEILER, 75, of 7611 Brookhaven Rd., Philadelphia, died at
2:55 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2000, at Thomas Jefferson Hospital,
Philadelphia. Born May 27, 1924 at Mooresville, she was the daughter of
the late Rodger D. and Ada Blanche (Gibboney) Ewing. She married Ralph
M. Weiler, who survives at Petersburg, R.D. 1. Four children survive:
Leslie E. Weiler and LaDonna Weiler, both of Philadelphia; Terry L.
Weiler, Huntingdon, R.D. 2, and Gale E. Weiler, Philadelphia. There
are five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Mrs.
Jack (Louise) White of Burbank, Calif., and Mrs. Guy (Elsie) Fleck,
State College, survive. Mrs. Weiler was a member of the Ennisville
United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker. Funeral services will be
held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, at the Donald E. Baggus Funeral
Home, Belleville, with Pastor Shirley Russell officiating. Interment
will be made in the Mooresville Cemetery. Friends may call at the

Minerva B. MOSER, 83, of Deerfield Assisted Living Center, Tyrone,
formerly of Altoona, R.D. 2, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at the Altoona
Hospital. Born Nov. 28, 1916, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the
late John W. and Florence (Wise) Wolfe. She married John F. Moser July
1, 1936, in Hagerstown, Md. He preceded her in death July 17, 1991. She
is survived by two daughters: Joyce Ann Lewis, Erie; and Carolyn Lee
Bordell, Altoona. There are four grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren. One sister, Mary Bush of Huntingdon survives. Mrs.
Moser was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Altoona. She belonged to
the AARP and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. A
funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 29, at St. Rose of
Lima. Committal will take place in the Calvary Cemetery. Friends will be
received at The Stevens Mortuary, Altoona, Wednesday, from 7 until 9
p.m. A vigil for the deceased will be held at the mortuary Wednesday

Henry A. PRETTI, 90, of 8116 Six Mile Run Road, Defiance, died Saturday,
March 25, 2000, at 7:09 a.m., at his home. He died following an extended
illness. Born July 26, 1909, in New Philadelphia, he was the son of the
late Henry and Bona (Dernon) Pretti. He was united in marriage to Ovita
Boyles Oct. 14, 1941, in Pulaskie, Va. She preceded him in death Oct.
15, 1987. One son, James T. Pretti of Somerset survives. Mr. Pretti was
the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was of the
Catholic faith. He was employed by the Pennsylvania Drilling Company and
owned and operated several service stations. Funeral services will be
held Wednesday, March 29, at 10 a.m., at the D. Ronald Long Funeral
Chapel, Saxton, with the Rev. Patrick Leahey officiating. Interment will
be made in the Reformed Cemetery, Yellow Creek. Friends may call at the
funeral chapel Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service. 

Gerald Edwin WILSON, 65, of Lahaina, Maui, died March 23, 2000, in Maui.
Born in Huntingdon, he is survived by his mother, Myrtle Wilson of
Huntingdon; wife Ruth Ann of Lahaina, Maui; one son and two daughters:
Gerald Wilson of Hungry Horse, Mont.; Darlene Dorfi, State College; and
Teresa (Earle) Kukahiko of Lahaina, Maui. There are eight grandchildren
and two great-grandchildren. Three brothers and three sisters also
survive: Harvey Wilson, Harrisburg; James Wilson, Huntingdon; Barry
Wilson, Lewisburg; Shirley Chapman, New Mexico; Joyce Parsons and Carol
Weaverling, both of Pennsylvania. Mr. Wilson began his career as a
corrections officer for the Department of Corrections in Pennsylvania.
He retired as deputy warden for the state of Pennsylvania and then
continued on with his career for 12 years as county warden for Centre
County. Memorial services will be hold at the Presbyterian Church in
McAlevys Fort at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 1. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. 

Robert W. WILSON, 63, of P.O. Box 185, Mill Creek, died Sunday, March
26, 2000, at 11:48 a.m., at Bon Secours Holy Family Hospital, Altoona.
His death was unexpected. Born Nov. 1, 1936, in Spring Run, he was the
son of the late Ray W. and Alverta G. (Roddey) Wilson. He married Nancy
Lee Crownover June 1, 1958, in Hershey. Mrs. Wilson survives at home,
along with two sons: Michael L. Wilson, James Creek; and Roger L.
Wilson, Mill Creek. There are three grandchildren. One brother, Kenneth
L. Wilson of Huntingdon, survives. Mr. Wilson was employed by Penn
Central Railroad and its successors, Conrail and Norfolk Southern
Railroad for the past 18 years. He was a graduate of the Orbisonia High
School. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 29, at 1 p.m., at
the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Raymond C.
Crownover officiating. Interment will be made in the Huntingdon Memorial
Gardens, Huntingdon, R.D. 1. Friends may call at the funeral home after

Lillian M. DROLSBAUGH, 86, of 820 Washington St., Huntingdon, died
Monday, March 27, 2000, at 8:50 p.m., at the home of her daughter,
Barbara Baker. Born Jan. 29, 1914, in Robertsdale, she was the daughter
of the late Frank and Edna (Cowan) Foore. She married John R. Drolsbaugh
June 1, 1933, in Huntingdon. He preceded her in death Oct. 19, 1998.
Surviving are three children: Barbara Baker, Huntingdon, R.D. 1; Ronald
Drolsbaugh, Eagle, Colo.; and Susan Norris, Huntingdon, R.D. 2. A
granddaughter, Melissa Price of Huntingdon, was reared in her home. A
number of grandchildren, ,great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews
survive. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was
preceded in death by a sister and four brothers; Edna Pearl Foore,
Harold Foore, Ralph M. Foore, Robert W. Foore and Frank W. Foore. Mrs.
Drolsbaugh was an active member of the First United Methodist Church,
Huntingdon. She was the treasurer of the Comrade Sunday School class;
member of the United Methodist Women; served as social involvement
coordinator and leader of the Naomi-Ruth Circle. While she was primarily
a home maker, she also volunteered in nursing homes with the RSVP
program and volunteered for, and was a member of, the Standing Stone
Senior Citizens. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends,
sewing, cooking, gardening, reading, walking, puzzle books, children and
babysitting for friends. She loved to keep active and enjoyed doing for
others. Private funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, March
30, at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev.
Doyle H. Klinger Jr. officiating. Interment will be made in the
Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. The family will receive friends at the
funeral home Thursday from 7 p.m. until the hour of the private service.

E. Naomi FOX, 85, of 274 Fox St., Defiance, died Monday, March 27, 2000,
at 2:56 p.m., in the emergency room of UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital.
Her death was unexpected. Born Nov. 14, 1914, in White Church, Six Mile
Run, R.D., she was the daughter of the late Roy and Myrtle B. (Grove)
Defibaugh. She married Marshall J. Fox Feb. 23, 1931, in Dudley. He
preceded her in death Sept. 8, 1966. Surviving are the following
children: Donna Dixon, Defiance; LeRoy Fox, Chesterton, Ind.; Franklin
J. Fox, Todd, N.C.; Allen Fox, Blairsville; and Stephen Fox, Defiance.
There are 26 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are the following siblings:
Lee Defibaugh, Millville, N.J.; William Defibaugh, Baltimore, Md.;
Donald Defibaugh, Tom's River, N.J.; and Helen McNanney, Tucson, Ariz.
One son, F. Paul Fox; two brothers, Allen and Willard Defibaugh; and one
grandson preceded her in death. Mrs. Fox was a member of the Six Mile
Run Church of God and the Hopewell Area Senior Citizens. She retired in
1982 from house- keeping at the Bedford County Memorial Hospital, after
25 years of service. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 30,
at 2 p.m., at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with the Rev.
Stanley Cordell officiating. Interment will be made in the Ave Maria
Cemetery, Dudley. Friends may call at the funeral chapel today from 7

Maria T. SCHEPIS, 75, of Waterfall Road, Harrisonville, died at 2 p.m.
Monday, March 27, 2000, at her home in Taylor Township, Fulton County.
Born Sept. 20, 1924, in Vienna, Austria, she was the daughter of the
late Johann and Theresia (Petz) Furnkranz. She was united in marriage to
Anthony Schepis Dec. 24, 1952, in Salzburg, Austria. Mr. Schepis
preceded her in death Nov. 12, 1997. Surviving are the following
children: John Schepis, San Antonio, Texas; Linda M. Miller,
Shirleysburg; Susan C. Hopkins, Latonia, Ky.; Anthony Schepis,
Burlington, Ky.; Christina T. (Schepis) Parrish, Gaithersburg, Md.; and
Michael A. Schepis, Hustontown. There are ten grandchildren and four
great-great- grandchildren. One son, Peter Anthony, and a sister,
Gertrude Winter, preceded her in death. Mrs. Schepis was a member of St.
Stephen's Catholic Church, McConnellsburg. During her life she was a
homemaker and in her earlier years worked as a nurse. Funeral services
will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 30, at the M.R. Brown Funeral
Home, Hustontown, with the Rev. David Becker officiating. Interment will
be made in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Harrisonville, R.D. Friends may call
at the funeral home from 7 until 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until
the hour of the service on Thursday. 

Leonard K. "Pete" FEGHT, 67, of Box 51, Breezewood, died Monday, March
27, 2000, at 6:30 p.m., at Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg, N.J. He died
following an extended illness. Born March 31, 1932, in Breezewood, he
was the son of the late Albert E. and Olive Feght. He married Betty Jane
Mellott Oct. 18, 1952, in Cumberland, Md. She preceded him in death May
31, 1987. Surviving are the following children: Geraldine Kepler,
Renovo; Terry Borger, Effort; Jodie Shedd, Phillipsburg, N.J.; and Eric
L. Feight, Breezewood. There are seven grandchildren and one great-grand-
daughter. Also surviving are several siblings: Reed Feight, Waterfall;
Dale Feight, Effort; Arnold J. Feight, Everett; Donald Feight, Bedford;
Robert Jim Feight, Sylvia Winck and Anna May Leidy, all of Breezewood.
One sister, Loretta Umholtz, preceded him in death. 
Mr. Feight was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of the Breezewood Lions Club. 
He and his wife owned and operated Pete and Betty's Diner for 13 years in
Breezewood. Mr. Feight was an excellent pie and apple dumpling baker and
an avid hunter. 
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 31, at 2 p.m., at the D. Ronald Long 
Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with the Pastor Lee Ritchey officiating. 
Interment will be made in the Grandview Cemetery, Saxton, R.D. Friends may call at 
the funeral home Friday from 12:30 p.m. until the hour of the service.

Wilma Louise JOHNSON, 72, of 7849 North Valley Road, Wells Tannery, died
at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, March 30, 2000, at her residence. Born March 29,
1928, in Wells Tannery, Fulton County, she was the daughter of the late
Russell E. and Hazel Mae (Shaw) Swope. She married Harry K. "Fiddle"
Johnson July 28, 1945. In addition to her husband, she is survived by
her daughter, Nancy Home of Orlando, Fla.; and a son, Robert Johnson,
Wells Tannery. There are three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
One grandson, one sister and one brother preceded her in death. Mrs.
Johnson was a retired postmaster in Wells Tannery. She was a member of
the Wells Valley Presbyterian Church, Wells Tannery, and the Eastern
Star in Saxton. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m.. Saturday,
April 1, at the Wells Valley Presbyterian Cemetery, Wells Tannery, with
Pastor Neil Daetz officiating. At the family's request, there will be no
flowers or visitation. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of
the Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Inc., Harrisonville.

Sarah D. McFARLAND, 83, a resident of The Oaks at Westminster Woods
since August 1998, formerly of Oreland and 1412 1/2 Scott St.,
Huntingdon, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at 9:45 a.m., at J.C. Blair
Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Nov. 11 1916, in Camden, N.J., she
was the daughter of the late John J. and Lillian W. (Coles) Dougherty.
She married James B. McFarland III, who preceded her in death Oct. 10,
1974. Two children, Mrs. Steven (Janice R.) Metzgar of Huntingdon, and
James B. McFarland IV of Lansdale, survive. One granddaughter and one
step-granddaughter survive. The last surviving member of her immediate
family, she was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers. Mrs.
McFarland was a member of the Huntingdon Presbyterian Church. She was a
member of the Standing Stone Garden Club, Friends of the Library,
volunteered at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital gift shop and was a
long-time volunteer with the American Red Cross. During her life, she
worked as registered nurse in the Abington Hospital, was a private duty
nurse and was a campus nurse in charge of student health services at
Penn State University, Abington Campus, formerly Ogontz Campus, from
1962 until her retirement in 1982. Mrs. McFarland was a graduate of
Camden High School in Camden, N.J., and the Abington Hospital School of
Nursing in 1938. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 29, at
2 p.m., at the Huntingdon Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Leslie R.F.
Papp officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Huntingdon
Presbyterian Church, 508 Mifflin St., Huntingdon, Pa. 16652; or The
Oaks, Westminster Woods, Westminster Drive, Huntingdon, Pa. 16652.

Theo R. STOTT, 86, of Butler, formerly of Petersburg and Evans City,
died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at Sunnyview Home, Butler. Born Dec. 4
1913, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Sheridan and Nancy
(Miles) Nale. Her husband, Fred A. Stott, preceded her in death Oct. 31,
1995. She is survived by two daughters and two sons: Mrs. Emmett (Edith)
Denton, Clarksville, Tenn.; Sheila Slippey, Evans City; William A.
Stott, Lewistown; and Edward S. Stott, Granville. There are 12
grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Four sisters and three
brothers preceded her in death. Mrs. Stott was formerly a member of the
Petersburg Zion Lutheran Church, Petersburg. Funeral services will be
held Monday, April 3, at 11 a.m., at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home,
Juniata Valley Chapel, 412 Main St., Alexandria, with the Rev. Elizabeth
A. Hess officiating. Interment will be made in the Cedar Grove Cemetery,
Petersburg. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 2 until 4
p.m. and from 7 until 9 p.m. Sunday, April 2. 

Helen D. HOUSE, 61, of Three Springs, R.D. 1, died at 9:15 p.m. Friday,
March 31, 2000, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Sept.
10, 1938, in Todd Township, Fulton County, she was the daughter of the
late Earl and Edna (Jenkins) Souders. Surviving are her close companion,
Frank Flasher, with whom she made her home, two sons and two daughters:
Ronald E. House, McConnellsburg; Charles House and Barbara House, both
of Greencastle; and Joane Atherton, Mercersburg. There are ten
grandchildren, three step-granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.
Two sisters and one brother also survive: Eva Stoner, Greencastle;
Myrtle Seville, Chambersburg; and Joseph Souders, Dallas. One daughter,
one great-granddaughter, one sister and five brothers preceded her in
death. Mrs. House had attended several Assembly of God churches during
her lifetime. She was a member of AMVETS, Chambersburg; American Legion
Auxiliary-Post No. 561, and VFW Auxiliary Post No. 655, both of
McConnellsburg. She was a homemaker. Funeral services will be held at 11
a.m. Wednesday, April 5, at the M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown,
with Pastor Belvy White officiating. Interment will he made in the
Hustontown Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 until 9
p.m. Tuesday and from 10:30 until 11 a.m. Wednesday. 

Ellis J. "Jack" MILLER, 68, of 1681 Saxton Rd., Saxton, died Friday,
March 31, 2000, at his home, following an extended illness. Born Dec.
30, 1931, in Saxton, he was the son of the late Irvin and Elizabeth M.
(Cleeves) Miller. He is survived by a friend, Shirley. Parks of
Aliquippa; one brother, Harry Miller of Saxton; and a sister, Betty
Barrett of Sebring, Fla. Two brothers, William Miller and Freddie Ray
Miller, and two sisters, Suzanna Miller and Ruth King, preceded him in
death. Mr. Miller was a member of the Stonerstown Church of the
Brethren. He was a member of the Saxton American Legion Post No. 126;
VFW Post No. 4129; and the Pipefitters Union. He was employed as a
welder for 35 years, retiring in 1990. During the Korean Conflict, Mr.
Miller served in the U.S. Army. Funeral services will be held Tuesday,
April 4, at 1 p.m., at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with
Pastor John Robinson officiating. Interment will be made in the
Grandview Cemetery, Saxton, R.D. Full military honors will be accorded.
Friends may call at the funeral chapel this evening from 7-9 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Saxton Volunteer Fire Company.

Donna L. (BARD) WHITE, 61, of Ranch Avenue, Lebanon, died Friday, March
31, 200O, at 10:10 p.m., at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon. Born
June 21, 1938, in Mount Union, she was the daughter of the late Paul and
Dorothy (Chilcoate) Bard. Her husband, George 0. White, preceded her in
death Jan. 26,1997. Two daughters and two sisters survive: Mrs. Nicholas
(Sherry A.) Gardner Jr., Lebanon; Helen M. White, at home; George J.
White, Lebanon and Raymond 0. White, Myerstown. There are two
grandchildren. One brother, Paul Bard Jr. of Mount Union, and a sister,
Karen Brandt of Florida, also survive. Mrs. White was preceded in death
by a sister, Mary Renninger. She was of the United Methodist faith. Mrs.
White was a former licensed practical nurse in the Lebanon Valley
Brethren Home in Palmyra. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.
Tuesday, April 4, at Christman's Funeral Home, Inc., Lebanon. Interment
will be made in the Ebenezer "Greenwood" Cemetery, Lebanon. Friends may
call at the funeral home this evening from 6 until 8 p.m.
