Eva R. HARTZLER, PhD., 90, of The Oaks at Westminster Woods, 360
Westminster Drive, Huntingdon, formerly of 2014 Washington St.,
Huntingdon, died at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at The Oaks,
Huntingdon. Born Jan. 24, 1911, in Longreen, MD, she was the daughter of
the late John M. and Anna Mary (King) Hartzler. She is survived by a
twin sister, Ethel N. Hartzler, Valley View Haven, Belleville; and
several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister and
three brothers, H. Harold Hartzler, Mrs. Kenneth (Carrie) Dodd, John M.
Hartzler, and C. Clayton Hartzler. She was a 1928 graduate of Belleville
High School and graduated in 1932 from Juniata College with a B.S. in
chemistry. She received her M.S. in chemistry and her PhD. in
bio-chemistry from the Pennsylvania State College in 1933 and 1950,
respectively. She was employed as a professor of bio-chemistry at
Juniata College from 1950 until her retirement in 1976. She was a member
of the Abbey Reformed United Church of Christ, Huntingdon. She was also
a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science; the
American Chemical Society; the Standing Stone Garden Club of Huntingdon;
the Sierra Club; the Wilderness Society; the National Parks and
Conservation Association; the Council for a Liveable World; and the
Union of Concerned Scientists. She loved flower gardening and hiking. A
private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family,
with the Rev. Gary H. Marcy officiating. Interment will be in the
Allensville Amish and Mennonite Cemetery, Allensville, Menno Township,
Mifflin County. 

Daniel E. "Dan" BRANTHAVER, 30, of Williamsport, Md., died Tuesday, May
1 2001, at the University of Maryland Medical Center Shock Trauma Unit
in Baltimore, Md. Born May 25, 1970, in Huntingdon, he was the son of G.
Fdward Branthaver and Joan E. (Galbraith) Branthaver. Along with his
parents, he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Pauline Shunk of
Meadowview Manor, McVeytown, R.D. 1, several aunts, uncles and cousins
in Huntingdon and Franklin counties. He started elementary school in
Huntingdon, but finished elementary and middle schools in Williamsport,
Md. He graduated from Williamsport High School in 1988. He earned an
associate of arts degree in human services from Hagerstown Community
College in 1991. He also attended Wheeling Jesuit University. Mr.
Branthaver was a senior staff mental health associate for the past 12
years at Turning Point of Washington County, an affiliate of Enoch and
Shephard Pratt Foundation, a community-based residential psychosocial
rehabilitation program for the chronically mentally ill in Hagerstown,
Md. A memorial service is being planned and will be announced at a later
date. 

Charles A. MADDEN, 95, formerly of HCR 71, Orbisonia, died at 11 :14
p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at the Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia.
Born Sept. 4, 1905, in Springfield Township, Huntingdon County, he was a
son of the late Harry J. and Gertrude J. (Nonemaker) Madden. He was
married to the former Cordelia E. McKim May 10, 1934, at Germany Valley,
by the Rev. Hanawalt. Mrs. Madden preceded him in death Aug. 16, 1997.
Surviving are two sons: Alton H. Madden of HCR 71, Orbisonia, and James
H. Madden, HCR 73, Three Springs. There are two granddaughters, two
great-grandsons and one great-great-granddaughter. Also surviving are
three sisters: Pearl Madden of Steelton, Hazel Madden of Elizabethtown
and Ruth Kell of York. One bother, Norman, and two sisters, Zella Brown
and Elna Appleby, are deceased. Mr. Madden was a member of the Mt.
Carmel United Methodist Church, Three Springs, R.D. He was a charter
member of the Old School Baptist Cemetery Association and a former
member of the board of directors of the Three Springs Burial
Association. Mr. Madden was a dairy fariner for most of his life and had
also been employed by PennDOT for a period of time. Funeral services
will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at the Martin R. Brown Funeral
Home, Orbisonia, with the Rev. Charles Rhodes officiating. Interment
will be made in the Old School Baptist Cemetery, Three Springs, R.D. 

Brian M. HARPSTER, 17, of Pennsylvania Furnace, died Wednesday, May 2,
2001, at his residence. Born July 21, 1983, in State College, he was the
son of the late Debbie K. (Tate) Harpster, who died in 1996, and
Mitchell "Mike" Harpster, who survives at home. Surviving, along with
his father, are a brother, Pat Harpster, and a niece, all of
Pennsylvania Fumace. He is also survived by his grandmother, Kathryn
Harpster of Pine Grove, and several aunts and uncles. Brian attended the
Tyrone Area High School, where he was a senior. He enjoyed riding
four-wheelers, driving cars, hunting and being outdoors. Funeral
services will be held Sa urday, May 5, at noon, at the Upper Spruce
Creek Presbyterian Church, Gravsville, wi& Pastor Ted Plott officiating.
Interment will be made in the Ross Cemetery at the convenience of the
family. 

Ruth Janet (Focht) MILLER, 85, of Newark, Ohio, died Wednesday, May 2,
2001, at the Autumn Health Care in Newark, Ohio. Born Nov. 27, 1915, in
Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late James G. and Jennie
(Walters) Focht. She married Charles Miller in 1935, and he preceded her
in death in 1992. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Robert (M. Joan)
Wainfor of Heath, Ohio, one grandson and one great- grandson. Three
nieces also survive. She was preceded in death by four brothers and
three sisters. A 1933 graduate of Huntingdon High School, Mrs. Miller
worked as a secretary, bookkeeper and clerk. She was also an
enthusiastic cat lover. She was a former member of the Abbey Reformed
Church in Huntingdon. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of
the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral and Cremation Service, Newark, Ohio. 

Whitney Joy McCONAUGHEY, 14, of 201 Fairview Road, McVeytown died at
9:57 a.m. Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Geisinger Medical Center in
Danville, following a serious illness. Born Feb. 13, 1987, in Lewistown,
she was a daughter of Carl L. McConaughey, Shirleysburg RD1 and Larry
and Jana (Peterson) White, McVeytown RD1, who survive. Also surviving
are: a brother and sister, Kasey White and Dylan White, both of
McVeytown RD1; grandparents, Ross and Joan Peterson, Three Springs,
Wilbur Leidig, Waterfall and Olive McConaughey, Mount Union;
step-grandparents, Larry and Carolyn White, McVeytown; a
great-grandmother, Minnie Peterson, Woodland Retirement Center,
Orbisonia; and a step-great-grandmother, Margaret McMullen, Burnham. She
was preceded in death by grandparents, Joy Leidig and Walter
McConaughey, and by great-grandparents Martha and Ira Grove. She was a
member of the United Methodist Church, McVeytown, where she served as an
acolyte and she was active in Sunday school and youth fellowship. She
also attended Germany Valley Church of the Brethren, Shirleysburg RD1.
She attended eighth grade at Mount Union Area High School, where she was
active in the Builders Club. She played on the Slick Chicks Mount Union
Summer League softball team and she had played basketball at the Mount
Union Elementary School. She enjoyed fishing and horseback riding. Her
funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Robert D. Heath Funeral
Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Marian Hartley and the Rev. Raymond
Hill officiating. Interment will be in Germany Valley Cemetery,
Shirleysburg RD1. 

Angel L. HEPNER, 29, of 124 Hartman Village, Mount Union, died at 2:45
a.m. Friday May 4, 2001, at the Western Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh,
following an extended illness. Born March 28, 1972 in Lewistown, she was
a daughter of Dale E. Hepner, Yadkinville, NC and Joseph C. and Roberta
"Robin" (Plank) Snyder of Newtown Hamilton, who survive. Also surviving
are: children, Trenton McConaughey and Tory McConaughey, both at home;
brothers and a sister; Dale E. "Chuck" Hepner Jr., Mapleton, Joey
Snyder, Mike Snyder and Scott Snyder, all of Newton Hamilton, and Shane
Hepner and Michelle Beal, both of North Carolina. She was a 1991
graduate of Mount Union Area High School. She was a member of the
Wesleyan Church, Mount Union. She had been employed at the Huntingdon
County Head Start of Mount Union. Her funeral service will be held at 11
a.m. Tuesday at the Wesleyan Church in Mount Union with the Rev. Rod
Uhlig officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Union Cemetery. 

Clair V. SELLERS, 78, of Bell Court, Apt. 8, Bellwood, died Thursday,
May 3, 2001, at 8:45 p.m., at his home. Born April 30, 1923, in
Dungarvin, he was the son of the late William and Julia (Johnson)
Sellers. He married Edna Mae Gunsallus July 10, 1945, in Baltimore, Md.
She preceded him in death April 8, 1997. Surviving, along with his
fiance, Peggy Rutledge Boonie of Petersburg, are a son, Terry M. Sellers
of Duncansville, two grandchildren, and one great-grandson. Mr. Sellers
retired in 1987 from Mierly Motor Company as parts manager, after 32
years of service. He was previously employed as an airplane inspector
for Glenn L. Martin in Baltimore, Md., and recently worked as a greeter
at WalMart in Altoona. He was a lifetime member of the James L. Noble
VFW, Altoona; Grazierville Gang; the Blackhawk Army Division
Association. He was a graduate of Warriors Mark High School and during
World War II served as a tech sergeant in the U.S. Army, stationed in
Germany and the Phillipines. Funeral services with veterans honors will
be held Monday, May 7, at 2 p.m., at the Feller Memorial Home, Tyrone,
with Pastors Bill and Cookie Hartley officiating. Interment will follow
in the Blair Memorial Park. 

Sylvia E. HOENSTINE, 91, of 425 Cedar St., Kistler, Mount Union, died at
approximately 9:45 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2001, at the J.C. Blair
Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born March 30, 1910, in Johnstown, she
was the daughter of the late Edward J. and Theresa (Schuster) Kurtz. She
was united in marriage to William Ray Hoenstine July 2, 1929, in
Johnstown. He preceded her in death Jan. 27, 1988. Surviving are three
children: Theresa A. Hicks, Mt. Holly Springs; Jean F. Goodling, Mount
Union; and Joan M. Wenzel, Kistler. There are ten grandchildren, 20
great-grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild. One sister, Ressie
Costlow of Kistler, survives. Two brothers and one sister are deceased.
Mss. Hoenstine was a member of St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church,
Mount Union. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters, Mount
Union Chapter. She was primarily a homemaker. A funeral Mass will be
held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 7, at St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church,
Mount Union, with the Rev. Elwood Figurelle officiating. Interment will
be made in St. Catherine's Catholic Cemetery, Shirleysburg. 

Edgar Woodrow "Woody" HEFRIGHT, 84, of R.D. 4, Box 242, Smithfield
Township, Huntingdon County, died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at 6:36 p.m.,
at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. He had been in failing
health for the past several months. Born May 28, 1916, at the family
home in Marklesburg, he was the son of the late George and Mary E.
(Hetrick) Hefright. He married Marie Alma Baker Nov. 14, 1953, in
Frederick, Md. Mrs. Hefright preceded him in death Feb. 21, 1999.
Surviving are his daughter-in- law and caretaker, Helen Louise Baker of
Huntingdon, and a sister, Lillian Everetts of the Woodland Retirement
Home. There are three grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild Mr. Heftight, was preceded in death by a, son,
Donald Lee Baker Sept. 26, 2000, and a grandson, David Egar Baker, who
died May 21, 1998. An infant brother is also deceased. He attended the
Huntingdon area public schools and retired in January 1976, following 29
years of service at Owens Coming Fiberglas in Huntingdon, where he
worked in the forming department. During World War II, he served in the
U.S. Army from April 21, 1942, until Jan. 6, 1946, as a military
policeman with the 701st Military Police Batallion. He was awarded the
Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon
and the Meritorious Unit Award. Mr. Hefiight had been a member of the
First United Methodist Church, Huntingdon. He was a life member of the
Smithfield Fire Company; former charter member and founder of the former
Huntingdon No. 2 Fire Company; and member of the Huntingdon County
Firemen's Association; Central District Firemen's Association; Fraternal
Order of Police; and Frank P. Hommon American Legion Post No. 24,
Huntingdon. A lifetime resident of Huntingdon County, he had lived at
his Smithfield Township residence for the past 52 years. Funeral
services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 7, at the Cutright-Speck
Funeral Home, 207 Ridge Road, Smithfield, Huntingdon, with the Rev.
Doyle H. Klinger Jr. officiating. Full military honors will be observed
at the funeral home following the service. Interment will be made in the
Union Cemetery, Marklesburg. 

Janice (Miller) McNEAL, 76, of Stanton, Calif., formerly of Huntingdon,
died at her home in California April 25, 2001. Bom Feb. 11, 1925, in
Spruce Creek, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Treva
(Everhart) Miller. She is survived by a daughter, Loleda Davis of
California, and one granddaughter. One sister, Josephine D. Holland of
Huntingdon also survives, along with two nephews. Mrs. McNeal attended
the Huntingdon area schools and graduated from Huntingdon High School in
1942. Funeral services were held in California.

William D. MONROE, 69, of Cass Township, Huntingdon County, died at 8
a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2001, at his home, following an extended illness.
Born July 29, 1931, in Clarksburg, W.Va., he was a son of the late
Arnold G. and Icie Belle (Keaton) Monroe. He married the former Ruth
Gaun Sept. 25, 1954, in Elkton, Md. Mrs. Monroe survives at home, along
with three children: David Monroe, Carlisle; James Monroe, Limerick; and
William A. Monroe, Norristown. There are nine grandchildren. The
following siblings also survive: Arnold Monroe, Ohio; Vicki Walk,
Virginia; Nellie Crews, West Virginia; Betty Monroe, New York; and Julia
Ann Spickler, Cassville. One brother, William P. Monroe, and a sister,
Anna Long, aredeceased. Mr. Monroe was a member of the Beavertown Bible
Church, Todd, R.D. He was employed by Fischer and Porter in Warminster
as a machine operator for 24 years. He was a veteran of the Korean
Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army. Private funeral services will be
held at the convenience of the family. 

Frances M. DOLT, 95, of Huntingdon, formerly of Dudley, died at 10: 17
a.m. Sunday, May 6, 2001, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon.
Born Sept. 19, 1905, in Dudley, she was the daughter of the late Philip
and Anne Dolt. She is survived by a son and a daughter: Earnest Buckely
of Dudley and Dorothy Bonzo of Baden. There are 12 grandchildren, 19
great-grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild. One daughter,
Christene Detwiler, six sisters and two brothers are deceased. Ms. Dolt
was a homemaker and she also worked for Green Thumb and Thompson
Cleaners. She was a member of the Dudley United Methodist Church and
enjoyed playing bingo and going to baseball games. Funeral services will
be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home,
Broad Top, with Pastor Joanne Dugan officiating. Interment will be made
in the Dudley Protestant Cemetery, Dudley. 

William T.P. Shea, 74, of Saxton, R.D. 1, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at
6:35 p.m., at his home, following a lengthy illness. Born Sept. 27,
1926, in Greenfield, Mass., he was the son of the late William T. and
Jane (Stiles) Shea. He married Patricia Barto Sept. 4, 195 1, in Elkton
Md. Mrs. Shea survives at home, along with two sons: Michael Shea of
Shenandoah and Tim Shea of Saxton. One brother, James P. Shea of Del
Ray, Fla., survives. Mr. Shea was of the Catholic faith. During World
War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from St. Patrick's High
School in Miami Beach, Fla., in 1943. In 1949, he received his
bachelor's degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and in 1952 he
graduated from the University of Miami Law School. He was employed as a
lawyer and sold books to colleges and universities. He was a collector
of rare books and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Graveside services
will be held Wednesday, May 9, at 2, p.m., at the Dudley Protestant
Cemetery, with Pastor Todd Templeton officiating. 

Dorothy S. PARKS, 81, of 1500 Logan Ave., Tyrone, died at 11I a.m.
Monday, May 7, 2001, at the Bellmeade Manor, Bellmeade. Born Jan. 5,
1920, in Catherine Township, Blair County, she was the daughter of the
late B. Frank and Marie (Robinson) Snare. She married Harry C. Parks May
13, 1938, in Altoona. He preceded her in death Feb. 15, 2000. Surviving
are a son and a daughter: Kenneth H. Parks of Sinking Valley and Karen
M. Walters of Huntingdon. There are eight grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren. One sister and three brothers also survive: Cynthia
Showalter of Williamsburg, B. Frank Snare Jr. of Blue Knob, Jack Snare
of Sinking Valley, and Murray Snare of Alexandria. One brother, Arthur
Snare, preceded her in death. Mrs. Parks was of the Lutheran faith. She
enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles and painting with acrylics. She had
worked for the Tyroone Daily Herald and later at Himes Printing in State
College. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 10, at 11 a.m., at
the Derman Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone, with Pastor Millie Baker
officiating. Interment will be made at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery,
Sinking Valley. 

Janet A. THOMAS, 56, of Centre Hall, formerly of Martinsburg, died
unexpectedly Sunday morning, May 6, 200, at the Tyrone Hospital, after
an apparent heart attack. Born Nov. 9, 1944, in Huntingdon County, she
was the daughter of the late Scott and Luella (Hann) Miller. Surviving
are a daughter, Katherine L. Thomas-Ferry of Altoona and two
grandchildren. Her partner, Frank Moyer, with whom she resided, also
survives. An infant son, Scott Alan Thomas, preceded her in death. One
brother, James Miller of Three Springs survives, along with her
stepmother, Loretta Black of Osceola Mills. One brother, Carl Miller, is
deceased. Ms. Thomas faithfully attended Calvary Bible Church, Centre
Hall. She was employed as a purchasing agent at Corvette America, State
College, and previously was employed by U.S. Sports, Huntingdon, and
Cove Shoe Company, Martinsburg. She was an avid member of the USA No. 1
Corvette Club, State College, and enjoyed gardening and spending time
with her grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m.
Wednesday, May 9, at the Haven Rest Memorial Park, Route 522,
Shirleysburg, R.R. 1, with Pastor W. Allan Glass officiating. Interment
will follow. 

N. Margaret TIPTON, 85, of Box 192, Martinsburg, R.R. 2, died Sunday,
May 6, 2001, at Bon Secours- Holy Family Health System, Altoona. Born
Feb. 20,1916, in Henrietta, Martinsburg, R.R. 1, she was a daughter of
the late Adam M. and Nancy Jane (Ebersole) Kensinger. She married G.
Elvin Tipton June 12, 1935, in Cumberland, Md. He preceded her in death
June 23, 1995. Surviving are three sons and three daughters: Paul E.
Tipton at home; Dennis G. Tipton, Roaring Spring, R.R. 1; Dale R.
Tipton, Saxton, R.R. 1; E. Jane Exline, Osslin, Ind.; Kay I. Vandrew,
San Diego, Calif.; and Linda J. Stewart, Martinsburg, R.R. 2. There are
ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by a grandson, Eric G. Tipton Nov. 18, 1992. Two sisters also survive:
Frances McVaughn and Elsie Verch, both of Baltimore, Md. Five brothers
and five sisters are deceased: David, Vernon, Albert, Raymond, Norman,
Kathryn Smith, Clara Biddle, Mazie Cutman, Mary Holsinger and Lavonia
Kensinger. Mrs. Tipton was of the Protestant faith. She was formerly
employed at the Green Giant Cannery, Martinsburg and later years, she
was a caregiver in Martinsburg. She enjoyed gardening, travel and
attended many area senior centers, especially Roaring Spring. Funeral
services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 10, at the John C. Bolger
Funeral Home, Inc., Martinsburg, with Pastor Charles L. Baughman
officiating. Interment will be made in the Fairview Cemetery,
Martinsburg. 

Elizabeth V. GOSHORN, 88, formerly of Blairs Mills, died at 6:03 a.m.
Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at the Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia. Born
Nov. 18, 1912, in Shade Gap, she was a daughter of the late Rudolph and
Margaret (McMullen) Chilcote. She was married to Banks H. Goshorn Feb.
2, 1939, in Mount Union. Mr. Goshorn preceded her in death Oct. 18,1976.
Surviving are the following children: John C. Goshorn, Blairs Mills,
R.D.; Callista M. Baer, Shade Gap; Lucy G. Goshorn and Barbara A.
Goshorn, both of Spring Run; and Nancy J. Zumbrum, New Oxford. There are
17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. One son, Paul A. Goshom, is
deceased. Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death. Mrs.
Goshorn was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Shade Gap, R.D., and
the Ladies Guild of the church. She was also a member of the Shade Gap
Senior Citizens and was primarily a homemaker. A funeral Mass will be
held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 10, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Shade
Gap, R.D., with the Rev. George Koharchik and the Rev. Albert Anselmi
officiating. Interment will be made in the Shade Valley Cemetery, Blairs
Mills, R.D. 

Anna Mary HIQUET, 79, of the Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia,
formerly of Dudley, died at 4:05 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at the
retirement center. Born June 27, 1921, in Dudley, she was the daughter
of the late Charles and Daisy (Smith) Conley. She married Rene Hiquet
Oct. 22, 1938, at the Catholic Church Parsonage in Dudley, with the Rev.
Houghtan officiating. Mr. Hiquet preceded her in death. Surviving are
two daughters and a son: A. Geraldine Hiquet, Naples, Fla.; Renee Putt,
Broad Top; and R. James Hiquet, Dudley. There are six grandchildren and
five great-grandchildren and a step-great-granddaughter. One grandson,
Joey Hiquet, was reared in her home. One sister and one brother also
survive: Helen Smith of Langdondale and Jerome Conley of Mount Union.
She was preceded in death by six brothers: Tom, Mike, Chuck, Luke,
Francis and Joe. An infant sister, Mary Ann, is also deceased, as are
two granddaughters. Mrs. Hiquet was a homemaker and a house cleaner for
several area families. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception
Church in Dudley, where she was a member of the church choir and the
Rosary Society. She enjoyed gardening and was well-known for baking
bread and pies. A funeral Mass will be held at the Immaculate Conception
Church at 10 a.m. Friday, May 11, with the Rev. Patrick Leahey
officiating. Interment will be made in the Ave Maria Cemetery in Dudley.

Frances G. HAGANS, 86, of the Pennsylvania House, Tyrone, died
Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at Epworth Manor. Born Aug. 10, 1914, in
Petersburg, she was a daughter of the late William R. and Henrietta
(Rutherford) Baird. She married Charles S. Hagans May 23, 1964, in
Mooresville. Mr. Hagans preceded her in death Aug. 13, 1977. Surviving
are two stepchildren, Gary Hagans of Mill Creek and Mary Jane Price of
Mount Union. There are four step-grandchildren, a niece and a nephew.
One brother, John S. Baird, preceded her in death. Mrs. Hagans was a

William G. JENKINS, 68, of Orbisonia, died at 6:25 a.m. Wednesday, May
9, 2001, at Lewis town Hospital. Born Aug. 6, 1932, in Cromwell
Township, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late A.Curtin Jenkins
and Leah (Zenoble) Jenkins, who survives in Virginia Beach, Va. He
married Shirley L. Snyder May 1, 1964, at the Pleasant Hill United
Methodist Church, Shade Gap, R.D. Mrs. Jenkins survives at home, along
with a daughter, Kelly J. Miller of HCR 62, Shade Gap, and two
grandchildren. One brother, Jack R. Jenkins of Mount Union and a sister,
Dixie L. Bollinger of Virginia Beach, Va., survive. He was preceded in
death by a brother, A. Curtin Jenkins Jr. Mr. Jenkins was a member of
the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Shade Gap, R.D. He was an
avid hunter and NASCAR fan, who enjoyed spending time with his family,
especially his grandchildren. He retired in 1995 from New Enterprise
Stone and Lime Company, after 15 years of service. Prior to that, he was
employed by L.C. Anderson Construction Co. for 25 years. He was a
veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army. Funeral
services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 11, at the Martin R. Brown
Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with the Rev. Earl Barrick officiating.
Interment will be made in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Shade Gap, R.D. 

Emma M. RITCHEY, 74, of 284 Bunker Hill Rd., Six Mile Run, died
Thursday, May 10, 2001, at 10:25 p.m., at the Altoona Hospital,
following an extended illness. Born June 6, 1926, in Cooks, she was the
daughter of the late Edward and Olive (Edwards) Shehan. She was preceded
in death by her first husband, Joseph Wright. She married Hermnan E.
Ritchey April 25, 1991, in the Broad Top Church of the Nazarene. Mr.
Ritchey survives at home, along with the following children: David
Wright, Altoona; Glenn Wright, Six Mile Run; Darlene Cowan, Newburg;
Homer Wright, Robertsdale; and Nancy Barton, Hopewell; step-children
Delbert Ritchey of Everett; Dennis Ritchey of Robertsdale; and and Pam
McGhee of Carlisle. There are seven grandchildren, eight
step-grandchildrenand seven step-great-grandchildren. One son, Charles
Wright, and two grandchildren are deceased. Three brothers survive:
Ralph Shehan, Robertsdale; Merle Shehan, Parma, Ohio; and Kenneth
Shehan, New Castle, Del. One brother, Robert Shehan, and a sister, Sarah
Gamble, are deceased. Mrs. Ritchey was a member of the Church of the
Nazarene, Broad Top City. She was primarily a homemaker and enjoyed
reading and sewing. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 14, at 2
p.m., at the Broad Top Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Rupert Gage
and Pastor Ronald Shehan, nephew of Mrs. Ritchey, officiating. Interment
will be made in the IOOF Cemetery, Broad Top. 

Raisa Poser ROBINSON, 77, of 3400 S. Ocean Blvd., Apt. 6D, Highland
Beach, Fla., died Monday, May 7, 2001, in Boca Raton Community Hospital
in Florida. Mrs. Robinson fell in her home May 3 and fractured her hip.
Several serious illnesses and a kidney transplant had been troublesome
in her later years and contributed to her death after the broken hip.
Mrs. Robinson was the daughter of Lester and Tybie Poser, former
Huntingdon residents and business owners. She was married for 54 years
to Ellis Robinson who survives at their home. Two daughters, Miss Lesley
Robinson of Columbia, Md., and Mrs. Don (Debbie) Tracy of Bethesda, Md.,
survive. There are two grandsons. Two brothers, D. Leonard Poser of
Highland Beach, Fla., and Jay Poser of Lancaster, also survive. Mrs.
Robinson graduated from Huntingdon High School and the Pennsylvania
State University. She and her husband were founders of Beth Ami Temple
in Boca Raton. They were married shortly after he returned from World
War II and they resided in his hometown of Plainfield, N.J. Ellis owned
a clothing store in Cranford, N.J., and after selling it, Ellis and
Raisa moved to Boca Raton and eventually moved to their current home. 

Robert H. SOLLERS, 64, of Harrisburg, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at the
VA Medical Center, Lebanon. He was born in Alexandria. His companion,
Theda J. Shay, survives. He is also survived by two brothers, Frederick
C. Sollers of Alexandria, R.R. 1, and John W. Sollers of Huntingdon, and
a sister, Maude I. Banks of Altoona. Mr. Sollers was retired from the
Pennsylvania Department of Welfare. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army
and Air Force. He was a member of the New Cumberland Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post 7415, the New Cumberland American Legion Post 0143 and the DAV
Chapter 50 in Camp Hill. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday,
May 14, at the John E. Neumyer Funeral Home, 1334 North Second St.,
Harrisburg. Interment will be made at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, at the
Orbisonia Cemetery, Orbisonia.

Hazel E. ANGLE, 91, of 10127 Letzburg Rd., Greencastle, died Saturday,
May 12, 2001, at 6:05 a.m., in the Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro. Born
March 27, 1910, in Montgomery Township, Franklin County, she was a
daughter of the late J. Russell and Leah Nora (Grosh) Angle. Surviving
are two sisters and two brothers: Eva M. Oskorip, Ginter; Thelma M.
Mijanovich, Hagerstown, Md.; Henry C. Angle, Lemasters; and Fred G.
Angle, Saltillo. Several nieces and nephews survive. Miss Angle was a
graduate of the former Lemasters High School in Lemasters, and the
Shippensburg Normal School, now Shippensburg University. She taught at
several rural schools, including Rising Sun, Worleytown and Pine Field.
She later taught mathematics at Tussey Mountain High School and coached
girls' basketball. She retired in 1974. Miss Angle was a member of St.
Stephen's United Church of Christ in Upton, where she taught Sunday
School for 70 years. She was active in the Montgomery Township election
board and the Greencastle Senior Center. Her personal interests were
gardening and crafts. For many years, she entered canned and baked
goods, crafts and flowers in the Franklin County Fair and State Farm
Show, and won a total of 1,500 ribbons. A private graveside memorial
service will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg, at the
convenience of the family. 

Wayne H. "Pete" SCHWARTZ, 77, McConnellsburg, died at 6:41 p.m. Friday,
May 11, 2001 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born August 21, 1923 in
Taylor Township, Fulton County, he was the son of the late Walter A. and
Jessie M. (Wagner) Schwartz. He was married to Mary Ruth (Wallace)
Schwartz, his wife of 57 years. They were married on July 19, 1943. She
survives at their home. Surviving are a daughter: Mrs. Joy J. (Schwartz)
Murdock, McConnellsburg; two grandchildren: Joseph Murdock, Suffolk, VA
and Joan (Murdock) Mellott, McCon-nellsburg; three great-grandchildren:
Cassie Sheffield, David S. Mellott and Leah Rose, Mellott, all of
McConnellsburg; two sisters and a brother: Betty Lowman, Chambersburg;
Dorothy Cook, Gettysburg; Walter A. Schwartz, Jr., Chambersburg. He was
preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Schenck and a brother, Billy
Schwartz. He attended the Pleasant Ridge Church of the Nazarene,
Harrisonville. He was a charter member and life member of the Hustontown
Fire Company and worked in coal stripping in Somerset and Bedford
counties. He also worked on highway construction as well as the
hydroelectric power project at Jiagara Falls, NY. He retired on
disability from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission in 1978 where he
had worked as a tunnel guard. He was also a member of the Mount Zion
Lodge #774 Free and Accepted Masons, McConnellsburg; Harrisburg
Consistory, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Jaffa Shrine Temple,
Altoona and Cromwell Chapter #549 Order of the Eastern Star, Orbisonia.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 15 at the M.R.
Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown. Pastor Dan Porterfield, Rev. Gary
Schwartz and Rev. Donald Roher officiated. Burial was made in Clear
Ridge Cemetery. 

Eugene E. "Junior" WILSON Jr., 67, of R.R. 1, Box 1443, Mount Union,
died Saturday morning, May 12, 2001, at the home of his brother, Jim,
with whom he resided. His death was unexpected. Born Dec. 16, 1933, in
West Beaver Township, Snyder County, he was the son of the late Eugene
A. Sr. and True P. (Kline) Wilson. Surviving are the following brothers
and sisters: Shirley Parks and Beverly Liddick, both of Lewistown; James
D. Wilson, Mount Union, R.R. 1; Carol Backley, Mechanicsburg; Melody
Miller, Shirleysburg, R.D. 1; and Sam Clymans, Virginia. He was preceded
in death by a sister, Bonnie Varner, and an infant sister, Nancy Wilson.
Mr. Wilson was a member of the Sugar Run Church of the Brethren,
Shirleysburg, R.D. 1. He did housecleaning and miscellaneous jobs for
people and delivered mail in Shirleysburg for some of the elderly. He
enjoyed fishing and camping. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m.
Wednesday, May 16, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union,
with the Rev. James Hullihen officiating. Interment will be made in the
Germany Valley Cemetery, Shirleysburg, R.D. 1. 

Samuel M. BAITH, 74, of Mt. Laurel, N.J., died April 11, 2001, at
Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Browns Mills, N.J. Born June 18, 1926,
in Three Springs, he was the son of the late Frank and Clara (Long)
Baith. He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Mortimer of Mt.
Laurel, N.J., two sons and two daughters: Mark Baith, Daniel Baith,
Naomi Lee and Lillian Baith. There are seven grandchildren. One brother,
Harry Baith of Harrisburg, N.C., and four sisters, Mary McCoy of Three
Springs, Mildred Baker of Huntingdon, Frances Schmalbach and Gladys
Baith of Statesville, N.C., survive. Two brothers and two sisters
preceded him in death: Conan, Warren, Lucy McCoy and Pearl Baith. Mr.
Baith lived in Three Springs until he graduated from Saitillo High
School in 1944. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he retired from
Acme Markets, after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Seventh
Day Adventist Church in Mt. Holly, N.J., and served as a deacon, elder,
board member and Sunday School teacher. Funeral services were held April
16, in Maple Shade, N.J. Interment was made in the Lakeview Memorial in
Cinnaminson, N.J. 

William Bernard KRUGH, 82, of HCR 60, Orbisonia, died at 9:10 a.m.
Monday, May 14, 2001, at the Altoona Hospital. Born July 2, 1918, in
Shirley Township, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late William
A. and Blanche (Gabert) Krugh. He married Catharine E. Smith Aug. 16,
1939, in Rockhill Furnace. Mrs. Krugh survives at home, along with three
children: Kay M. Dixon, Rockhill Furnace; Otto W. Krugh, Huntingdon; and
William D. Krugh, Clarion. There are five grandchildren. One sister,
Rita A. Price of the Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, also
survives. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leo and Frank, and
two sisters, Esther Zimmerman and Helen Willnecker. Mr. Krugh was a
member of the Valley Point Church of the Brethren, HCR 60, Orbisonia. He
was an avid outdoorsman and worked as a farmer his entire life; Funeral
services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at the Martin R. Brown
Funeral Home,, Orbisonia, with the Rev. Ronald Beverlin and the Rev.
Lewis Powell officiating. Interment will be made in the Shope Cemetery,
HCR 60, Orbisonia. 

Clifford E. SHOPE, 81, formerly of Cassville, died at 10 p.m. Sunday,
May 13, 2001, at Huntingdon Manor, Huntingdon. Born March 26, 1920, in
Saltillo, he was a son of the late Earl and Edith (Kephart) Shope. He
married Adaline Grissinger, who survives, along with a number of nieces
and nephews. Also surviving is a sister, Dorothy Ritchey of Martinsburg.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters: Oscar,
Merrill, Donald, Jerry, Edward, Almeda Foore and Irene Shope. Mr. Shope
was a member of the Cassville United Methodist Church. He was a charter
member of the Trough Creek Valley Lions Club; a life member of the
Trough Creek Valley Fire Company; past member and master of the Trough
Creek Valley Grange; member of Madden- Wennick Post 518, American
Legion, Rockhill Furnace; VFW Post 8634, Hopewell; and the Ancient Order
of the Deep. He retired in 1982 from the Huntingdon County Housing
Authority. Prior to that, he was employed by North American Refractories
in Mount Union and New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co., Roaring Spring. He
also worked as a coal miner. A veteran of World War II, he served in the
U.S. Navy aboard the USS Frederick R. Kellogg in the
European-African-Middle Eastern Theater from 1943 until 1945. Funeral
services will-be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at the Robert I.
McClain Funeral Home, Cassville, with the Rev. Donald Henderson and the
Rev. John Traxler officiating. Interment will be made in the Cassville
Cemetery. 

Warren C. KEEBAUGH, 80, of Bedford, Pa., died at 7:55 a.m., Monday, May
14, 2001 at his home in Bedford Township, Bedford County following an
extended illness. Born September 17, 1920 at Fort Littleton, Pa., he was
a son of the late Chalmer and Mary (Mock) Keebaugh. He was married to
the former Miriam G. Mellott on June 18, 1948 at McConnellsburg, Pa.
Mrs. Keebaugh survives at their home. Also surviving is a daughter,
Deborah M. Hurd of Carmichaels, Pa., and two granddaughters, Elizabeth
Homistek of Harrisonville, Pa., and Tiffany O’Neill of Easton, Pa., both
of whom were reared in the Keebaugh home. Three brothers, Richard
Keebaugh of Hustontown, Donald Keebaugh of Dayton, Ohio and Dale
Keebaugh of Hustontown and three sisters, Helen Coccagna of
Chambersburg, Pa., Doris Sowers of Akron, Ohio and Judy Kerlin of
Knobsville also survive. Six brothers preceded him in death. Mr.
Keebaugh was of the Protestant faith and was a member of Loyal Order of
Moose Lodge #480, Bedford. He retired from Operating Engineers Local 66,
Pittsburgh, Pa., after over 40 years service. He was a veteran of World
War II serving in the U.S. Army with the Military Police. A memorial
service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 26, 2001 at the M.R.
Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown with Rev. Richard A. Randall officiating.
Interment will be made at Hustontown Cemetery. The Fulton Honor Guard
will conduct a military service at the memorial service. 

Margaret T. SNYDER, 79, of 120 E. Shirley St., Mount Union, formerly of
Fielder's Road, McVeytown, R.D. 1, died at 7:39 p.m. Monday, May 14,
2001, at her home. Her death was unexpected. Born Oct. 11, 1921, in
Mifflintown, she was the daughter of the late Ben C. and Catherine
(Dunn) McKinley. She was reared in Kistler. She married John S. Snyder
Feb. 10, 1943, in Newburg. He preceded her in death Feb. 18, 1982.
Surviving are two children: William J. Snyder of Christiana and Cindy L.
Clark of Mount Union. She reared two of her grandchildren, John E. Clark
of Petersburg and Richard S. Clark of Mount Union. There are two other
grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She also reared one of her
brothers, Stewart E. McKinley of Christiana. She is also survived by
another brother, Carl E. McKinley of Birmington, N.J. One brother,
William J. McKinley, is deceased. Mrs. Snyder was of the Protestant
faith and was a homemaker. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.
Thursday, May 17, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with
the Rev. Robert Maurer officiating. Interment will be made in the Mount
Union Cemetery. 

Stanley R. LEFFARD, 71, of 417 11 th St., Huntingdon, died Tuesday, May
15, 2001, at 2:50 p.m., at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon,
following. a five-year battle with lung cancer. Born Nov. 1, 1929, in
Huntingdon, he was the son of the late S. Reed and Florence (Strait)
Leffard. He married Dorothy Carothers Oct. 7, 1951, in St. James
Evangelical Lutheran Church, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Edmund Manges
officiating. Mrs. Leffard survives at home, .along with two daughters:
Mrs. Stephen (Suzanne) Thomas of Aspinwall, and Mrs. Tetry (Yvonne)
Binkley, Horsham. There are two grandchildren. Mr. Leffard was a
lifelong member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Huntingdon,
where he was a former member of the Luther League at St. James, as well
as the Junior Choir and the maintenance committee. He was also a member
of the Huntingdon County Historical Society, Friends of the Huntingdon
County Library, Friends of the Juniata College Library, Auxiliary to the
Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries and AARP. He was self-employed as a
building contractor, operating S.R. Leffard and Son Building Contractors
in Georgia from 1947 until 1949. He returned to Huntingdon in 1949, and
for a short time worked at the McCrory Warehouse. He continued the
family business S.R. Leffard and Son in the Huntingdon area and retired
as a building contractor in 1987. Mr. Leffard attended public schools in
Smithfield Township and graduated from Huntingdon Area High School in
1947. He attended the Georgia Institute of Technology from 1947 until
1949. He was a member of ROTC in Atlanta, Ga., while attending Georgia
Tech. He had lived at his current residence since 1986. Mr..Leffard was
an avid reader, a political science, business and investments
enthusiast, enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and genealogical
research. A memorial service will be announced at a later date, to be
held at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Huntingdon, with the Rev.
Peter J. Naschke officiating. Private interment will be made in the
Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon, at the convenience of the family. 

Billee Rae Delaney KERLIN, 70, of Hummelstown, died Wednesday, May 16,
2001, in Blue Ridge Haven East, Susquehanna Township. Born May 2, 1931,
in Mount Union, she was the daughter of the late Chauncey and Harriett
(Gross) Delaney. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Dean R.
"Diz" Kerlin, two sons and three daughters: Rodney D. Kerlin, Oxford;
Robert D. Kerlin, Marietta; the Rev. Mrs. Robert (Lisa) Klinger, York;
Mrs. Douglas (Linda) Jackson, Hummelstown; and Mrs. Jay (Cindy) Stuart,
Palmyra. There are nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also
surviving are two sisters: Shirley Puchalla of Mount Union and Mrs.
James E. (Jean D.) McKnight, Hummelstown. She was preceded in death by a
brother, Robert D. Delaney, who died March 6, 2001. Mrs. Kerlin was a
member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Hummelstown, and its
Challengers Sunday School Class. A 1949 graduate of Mount Union High
School, she retired from the wrapping department of the Hershey
Chocolate Corporation. She was a member of the Chocolate Workers Union
Local 464, Hershey. Mrs. Kerlin enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles,
playing cards, winter trips to Florida and spending time with her
family. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 21, at 11 a.m., in the
Trinity United Methodist Church, Hummelstown, with the Rev. Joanne
Montgomery Link and the Rev. Charles L. Klinger officiating. Interment
will be made in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Township. 

Lynne (Hooper) BARAN, 39, of Durham, N.C., died suddenly Thursday, May
10, 2001, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C. Born July
10, 1961, in Frankfurt, Germany, she was the daughter of Dr. Robert and
Carolyn (Davis) Hooper, who survive in Hockessin, Del. She is also
survived by her husband of 14 years, Michael Baran, and two children,
Steven and Rachel, both at home. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs.
Jay (Laura) Sawyer, Logan, Utah and Mrs. Josh (Karen) Gray, Lake City,
Colo., and her grandmother, Almeda B. Hooper of Huntingdon. Her
grandmother, Dorothy Port Davis of West Chester, died Thursday. Mrs.
Baran was a 1983 graduate of the University of Delaware School of
Nursing. She had resided in Durham since 1983 and was a member of the
Holy Infant Catholic Church. She loved her preschool students and formed
a special bond with all whom she touched. A funeral Mass was held in
Durham, N.C. 

Dorothy Port DAVIS, 97, died Thursday, May 17, 2001, at her home in West
Chester. Born in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late George
Chalmers and Beatrice (Wills) Port. She was the widow of Dr. John Calvin
Davis, with whom she had shared 60 years of marriage in Huntingdon. She
moved to West Chester in 1990, several years after her husband's death.
She is survived by a son and two daughters: John Treverton Davis,
Wethersfield, Conn.; Carolyn (Davis) Hooper, Hockessin, Del.; and
Dorothy (Davis) Alexander, West Chester. There are four grandchildren
and seven great-grandchildren. Two granddaughters, Lynne Hooper Baran
and Deborah Wills Alexander, preceded her in death. She is survived by a
brother, Edward "Ned" Port of Huntingdon. Three sisters and a brother
are deceased. Mrs. Davis was a member of St. Francis in the Field
Episcopal Church, Malvern. Funeral services and interment will be held
at the convenience of the family. 

Catherine Adra (Wilson) PIPER, 88, formerly of 641 Saint Peter Street,
Petersburg, died Thursday, May 17, 2001, at 10:50 p.m. at Huntingdon
Manor, following an extended illness. She had resided at Huntingdon
Manor since December 1999. She was born Oct. 10, 1912, in Logan
Township, Petersburg, the daughter of the late George and Elsie Delilah
(Hoffer) Wilson. She married Martin Ross Piper March 2, 1931, in
Cumberland, Md. He preceded her in death May 3, 1993. She is survived by
a daughter, Shirley Ann Hicks of Petersburg, a son, George Martin Piper
of Petersburg and three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and five
great- great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother,
Clair Wilson, and.a sister, Edna Speck. Mrs. Piper was a member of the
Zion Lutheran Church, Petersburg. She attended public schools in
Shaversville and had lived at her Saint Peter Street home since 1940.
She was predominately a home- maker, but for a number of years, she was
employed by the Huntingdon Silk Mill, then its successor Owens-Corning
Fiberglas. She also worked at Juniata Electronics, predecessor of Elco
Corporation. She was a member of the Juniata Valley Senior Citizens
Center and enjoyed gardening, crochet and knitting. Funeral services
will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 2001, at the Cutright-Speck
Juniata Valley Chapel, 412 Main Street, Alexandria, with the Rev. David
E. Bowen officiating. Interment will be made at the Cedar Grove
Cemetery, Petersburg. 

Harry Warren "Bamey" COWAN, 83, of HCR 62, Neelyton, died at 12:01 a.m.,
Friday, May 18, 2001, at the Fulton County Medical Center,
McConnellsburg. He had been in excellent health until six weeks ago. He
was born Oct. 8, 1917, in Dublin Township, Huntingdon County, the son of
the late Harry A. and Melissa (Traxler) Cowan. He married Madaline
(Wilson) Cowan March 17, 1942. He is survived by his wife at home and by
three children: Randall D. Cowan of HCR 62, Neelyton; Kay Larue Book of
Chambersburg and Jan Paul Cowan of HCR 62, Neelyton. His sister, Hilda
Shrader of Masonic Homes, Elizabethtown also survives, as do seven
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
seven brothers, five sisters and an infant son. Mr. Cowan was a member
of the Fair Ridge Assembly of God Church, Shade Gap, R.R., where he was
a church board member for 30 years. He was a Dublin Townhip supervisor
for 25 years, from 1972 to 1997 and was a lifetime member of the Shade
Gap Area Volunteer Fire Company. Mr. Cowan was also a member of the
Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, the Southern Huntingdon County Young Farmers
Association and a former member of the Franklin County Wool Growers
Association and the Tuscarora Valley Grange. A lifetime dairy farmer,
Mr. Cowan also worked part-time as a butcher since 1945. He worked for
Stull Baldwin at Burnt Cabins, later at Fraker's Grocery in Fort
Littleton and was last employed at Rotz Meats, McConellsburg. Funeral
services will be held 2 p.m., Monday, May 21, at the Fair Ridge Assembly
of God Church, with Rev. Wilson Boyd and Rev. Belvy White officiating.
Interment will be made at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Shade Gap. R.R. 

Melvin Ray "Mac" McCAULEY, 74, of Box 89, Logan Township, Petersburg,
died at 6:06 a.m., Friday, May 18, 2001, at home. He was born Oct. 23,
1926, in Frankstown, the son of the late James Ray and Olive Gertrude
(Imler) McCauley. He married Ryoko Kamishita Jan. 5, 1955, in Tokyo,
Japan, with the U.S. Ambassador to Tokyo officiating. He is survived by
his wife at home, and by five children: Sarah A. Frederick of
Huntingdon, James Ray McCauley of Mount Union, Mrs. Randy (Ruby Jo)
Kensinger of New Enterprise, Mrs. Barry (Betty Ann) Russell of
Millerstown and Linda L. McCauley of Petersburg. He is also survived by
a sister, Mrs. James (Violet) Scarangelia of Altoona, and by 13
grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
a son, Luke McCauley, on Dec. 7, 1979, and by two brothers, Wilbur
McCauley and William McCauley. Mr. McCauley was a member of the
Lighthouse Worship Center, Huntingdon. He was a lifetime member of #4251
of the Retired Enlisted Association and a lifetime member of the William
P. Spyker American Legion Post #520. Alexandria. He attended
Williamsburg area public schools, received his high school education in
U.S. Army schools and later earned a bachelor of science degree through
U.S. Education Centers. He retired as a first sergeant in 1969 after a
distinguished career in the United States Army. He served with the U.S.
Army from May 11, 1945 thru Nov. 20, 1946. Between 1946 and 1956, he was
trained by the military in Code of Conduct, Military Justice, The Geneva
Convention and CBR training. On Dec. 29,1956, he re-enlisted as a master
sergeant with Battery A, 2nd Missile Battalion of the 517th Artillery
Division where he served until Jan. 17, 1963. He then transferred to
Battery D 3rd Battalion as First Sergeant where he retired March 1,
1969. In addition to various continental United States duty stations, he
served in Alaska and the Hawaiian Islands. His foreign service included
tours in Germany, Korea, Japan and Greenland. He was awarded the Purple
Heart for wounds received in Korea, Feb. 24, 1951. He was awarded the
United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal with Oak
Leaf Cluster, Combat Infantry Badge, Presidential Unit Citation - Korea,
Expert Missile Badge, Korean Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. McCauley remained on active, on-call status with the United States
Army Reserve until Jan. 16, 1981. Following his retirement, he worked
for a number of years at Technitrol in Petersburg. He moved to the
Juniata Valley in 1957 and resided at his Logan Township home from 1966
to the, present. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid coin
collector. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, May 21,
2001, at the Cutright-Speck Juniata Valley Chapel, 412 Main Street,
Alexandria, with Pastor Donald E. Dick officiating. Interment will be
made at the Cedar Grove Cemetery, Petersburg. Full military honors will
be accorded at graveside.

Verna A. PUCHALLA, 88, formerly of Mount Union and most recently of the
Woodland Retirement Center, died at 8:50 AM, Saturday May 19, 2001 at
Woodland. She had been in failing health. Born Feb. 5. 1913, in Mount
Union, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Petrock)
Holesa. She married Stephen J. Puchalla Sept. 9. 1929, in St.
Catherine's Roman Catholic Church in Mount Union. He preceded her in
death July 11, 1963. Surviving are the following children: Edward
Puchalla. State College; Stanley Puchalla, Broomall; Mrs. Ted (Ann)
Aurand, Huntingdon; Mrs. Ronald (Barbara) Chiodo. Morgantown, W.Va.; and
Robgrt Puchalla, Mount Union. There are 15 grandchildren and ten
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter. JoAnn
Madden. Three siblings also survive: Clara Cholewinski, Mount Union;
Paul Holesa, McConnellstown; and Edward Holesa, Saxton. The following
siblings preceded her in death: John Holesa, Joseph Holesa, Steve
Holesa, Mike Holesa, Anna Puchalla, Agnes Youngman, Mary Sevick, and two
infant siblings, Andy and Elizabeth Holesa. Mrs. Puchalla was a member
of St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church. Mount Union, and belonged to
the Catholic Daughters for many years. She retired from L. Greif
Brothers Manufacturing. Inc. Mount Union. A funeral Mass will be held at
10 am. Tuesday. May 22, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Mount Union,
with the Rev. Elwood Figurelle officiating. Interment will be made in
St. Catherine's Cemetery, Shirleysburg, R.D. 1. 

Sharon S. WHITE, 53, of 932 Homestead Lane, Hershey Estates. Hershey.
died at approximately 6:30 am. Saturday. May 19, 2001 at her home,
following a brief illness. Born Jan. 15, 1948, in Huntingdon, she was
the daughter of Boyd L. "Hector" Gabert, who preceded her in death, and
Ethel (Locke) Gabert. who resides in Mount Union. She was united in
marriage to Kenneth J. White Sept. 2, 1968, at the Sugar Run Church of
the Brethren, Mount Union. RD. 1. Mr. White survives, along with a
daughter. Amy Jo White, at home. One sister. Deborah Ann Gabert survives
in Mount Union. Mrs. White was a member of the Sugar Run Church of the
Brethren. Mount Union. RD. 1. A 1965 graduate of Mount Union High
School. she had been employed as a houseparent at the Milton Hershey
School in Hershey for 25 years. A funeral service will be held at 1:30
p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home. Mount
Union, with the Rev. Jim Hullihen officiating. Interment will be made in
the Monroe Valley Cemetery, Cromwell Township, Huntingdon County. 

John Newton LOCKE, 71, of S. Second Street, Chambersburg, died at 8 p.m.
Friday, May 18, 2001, at his home. Born Feb. 2, 1930, in Dublin
Township, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late Harry S. and
Dessie Mae (Clymans) Locke. He is survived by a son, Mark Kenneth Locke
of Albuquerque, N.M.. and three sisters: Edna Keller, Chambersburg;
Edith Plummer, Stoughton, Wis.; and Betty Tamer, Chambersburg. Three
brothers and one sister are deceased. Mr. Locke was of the Protestant
faith. A veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of the Charles
Nitterhouse VFW Post No. 1599, and the Burt J. Asper American Legion
Post No. 46, both of Chambersburg. In his early years, he was a sawmill
worker and later retired from Letterkenny Army Depot on disability.
Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at
Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Shade Gap, R.D., with the Rev.
Ronald Cook officiating. Interment will be made in Pleasant Hill
Cemetery. 

Mary Jean (Shilling) McCLAIN, 83, of Salina Drive, Huntingdon, died
Saturday, May 19, 2001, at 3:15 p.m., at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital,
Huntingdon, following recent illnesses and hospitalizations. Born Dec.
7, 1917, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late John William
and Ruth (Hartsock) Shilling. She married Norman L. Jack McClain Jan.
15, 1944. Mr. McClain survives at home, along with four children:
William D. McClain, York; Carole (McClain) Woodington, Easley, S.C.;
Steven W. McClain, Greenville, S.C.; and Christie (McClain) Gibboney,
Huntingdon. There are six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs.. McClain was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She
was a member of the Fifteenth Street United Methodist Church in
Huntingdon. She also belonged to and served as past royal matron of
Juniata Valley Court No. 121. Order of the Amaranth; and the auxiliary
to BPOE Lodge 976, Huntingdon. A 1935 graduate of Huntingdon High
School, she attended Catawba College in North Carolina for three years.
She had been employed by Posers in Huntingdon and McClain Gas and
Electric. Most of her time was devoted to her family and being there for
her children and husband was very important to her. She enjoyed
gardening, reading, playing the piano, crossword puzzles and playing
Jeopardy. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 23, at 11 a.m.,
at the Fifteenth Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon, with the
Rev. David L. Dearing officiating. Interment will be made in the
Riverview Cemetery in Huntingdon. 

Dorothy F. BOOK. 89. a resident of the Shook Home. Chambersburg,
formerly of Blairs Mills. died Thursday. May 17. 2001, at 9:16 p.m., at
the Shook Home. Born Oct. 17. 1911, in Blairs Mills. she was the
daughter of the late Daniel B. and Sarah C. (Shearer) Fultz. She married
Lawrence E. Book, who preceded her in death Sept. 2. 1970. Surviving are
Mrs. Kenneth (Twila) Long, Shippensburg; and Larry E. Book,
Mechanicsburg. There are five grandchildren and two Great-grandchildren.
A number nieces and nephews survive. One daughter, Aileen B. Leonard,
preceded her in death Oct. 11, 1989. One sister and eight brothers are
deceased.	Mrs. Book was a member of the Upper Tuscarora
Presbyterian Church, Waterloo. where she taught Sunday School and was a
member of the Missionary Society at the church. She was also a member of
the Shade Valley Farm Women Group No. 4, Shade Gap. She loved sheep and
enjoyed collecting various sheep articles and mementos. Funeral services
were held May 20, 2001, at the John L. Agett Funeral Home, Dry Run, with
the Rev. Paul Baker officiating. Interment was made in the Shade Valley
Cemetery, Richvale. 

Clara Mae DoUy COOK, 66, of P.O. Box 27. Riddlesburg, died at 8:15 p.m.
Friday. May 18, 2001, at her home, following an extended illness. Born
Oct. 31, 1934, in Imler, she was the daughter of the late William and
Emma (Feathers) Finnegan. She married John F Cook Sr. July 3, 1952. in
Cumberland. Md. Surviving, along with her husband. are two children;
Larry Finnegan and Barbara Cote, both of Riddlesburg. There are three
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
a son, John F. Cook Jr.. and an infant son. One brother and one sister
also survive: Charles Finnegan of Claysburg arid Helen Ladeoucur of
Bedford. Mrs. Cook was a member of the Riddlesburg Brethren Church and
the Hopewell Area Senior Citizens. She retired in 1986 from the Cove
Shoe Factory in Martinsburg, after 32 years of service. She enjoyed
crossword puzzles, reading and gardening. Funeral services will be held
Tuesday. May 22, at 11 a.m.. at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel,
Saxton, with Pastor Dennis Troutman officiating. Interment will be made
in the Bethel Cemetery. Tatesville. 

Sylvester PITTMAN, 92, of 201 Amandas Way Road, Hopewell, died Sunday,
May 20, 2001, at 7:50 p.m., at home. He died following an extended
illness. Born Aug. 21, 1909, in Clear Ridge, he was the son of the late
Jacob and Tressie (Clark) Pittman. He married Olive A. Wright Sept. 17,
1935, in Yellow Creek. She preceded him in death Oct. 30, 1999.
Surviving are the following children: Stanley Pittman, Hallandale, Fla.;
Ralph Pittman, Hopewell; Dorothy Colledge, Everett, R.D.; Pauline
Risbon, Sarasota, Fla.; Hazel Colledge, Hopewell; Tommy Pittman. Six
Mile Run; James Pittman, Hopewell; Ruth Colledge, Everett; Barry Ray
Pittman, North East, Md.; Judy Kline, Donald Pittman and Karen
Morningstar, all of Hopewell; and Jeffery Pittman, Everett. There are 24
grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. One daughter, Irene Pittman.
is deceased.	- He is survived by three siblings: Grant Pittman,
Russell Pittman and Pearl Heaster, all of Hopewell. One brother, Charlie
Pittman, and two sisters, Molly Heaster and June Fink, preceded him in
death. Mr. Pittman was a member of the Shermans Valley Brethren in
Christ Church. He was a self-employed scrap hauler, owned and operate{d
a sawmill and worked as a coal miner. He retired in 1972 from New
Enterprise Stone and Lime Co. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday. May 23, at 10:30 a.m., at the
Shermans Valley Brethren in Christ Church, with Pasror Stevens Burr
officiating. Interment will be made in the Shermans Valley Brethren in
Christ Church Cemetery. 

Donald J. ERGLER Sr., 63, of HCR Blacklog Valley, Box 308, Orbisonia,
died at 9 a.m. Friday, May 18, 2001, at his home. He died following an
extended illness. Born June 3, 1937, in Blacklog Valley, Cromwell
Township, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late Clarence and
Dorothy (Smith) Ergler. He married the former Sandra Long, who survives
at home. Also surviving are the following children: Melissa Fleming,
Shade Valley; Patricia Corrie, HCR Orbisonia; Donald J. "Joe" Ergler, El
Paso, Texas; and Earlene Hampson, Chambersburg. There are nine
grandchildren. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was
preceded in death by a brother, Roy Ergler, and an infant sister. Mr.
Ergler was a 1955 graduate of Orbisonia High School. He was a former
ironworker and belonged to Local 818, Harrisburg. He was also in the
logging and paperwood business for many years. He was a former member
of the Ft. Shirley Lions Club. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed many
hunting trips to Montana. He also enjoyed flowers and gardening.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family
at the Robert D. Heath Funeral home, Mount Union, with the Rev. George
Koharchik, the Rev. Albert Anselmi and the Rev. Rick Eminhizèr
officiating. Interment will be made in St. Mary’s Catholic Church
Cemetery. 

Ida T DICK, 90, of Roaring Spring. RD. 1. died Sunday afternoon, May
20, 2001, at Bon Secours Family Health System. Altoona Born July 25.
1910. in Fulton county, she was the daughter of the late Ira and Edna
(Walters) Amick. She married Ralph B. Dick Aug. 28. 1925, in Cumberland.
Md. Mr. Dick preceded her in death June 15, 1994. Surviving are a
daughter. Mrs. Richard G. (Lois) Knott of Roaring Spring. RD., and twin
great-granddaughters. who live in Alexandria. She was preceded in death
by a granddaughter, Bonita (Knott) Norris, who died Nov. 16, 1998. One
brother. Walter Amick of Brookes Mills, Hollidaysburg. RD. I survives.
Mrs Dick was a member of the Albright Church of the Brethren. Roaring
Spring. She was the last surviving member of the Albright Church Women’s
Missionary Group and was a member of the Albright Seniors’ Citizens
Group. She was formerly employed for 15 years as a cook for the Taylor
Township Elementary School and she was also a cook at the Jaffa Mosque
Temple in Altoona. She attended the Bloomfield township schools and
enjoyed flowers and cooking. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m.
Wednesday, May 23. at the Albright Church of the Brethren, Roaring
Spring. with Pastor Ronald Page and the Rev. Michael Ollivieri

Earl KIDD, 77, of Hollandale, Fla., died May 7. 2001. at Hollandale
Hospital. Born March 7, 1924. in Mount Union, he was the son of die late
Thomas T. Sr. and Gertrude B. (Skipper) Kidd. He is survived by two
daughters and a son; Katrina, Cheryl and Richard, and a stepdaughter.
April, all in the Modesto. Calif., area. One son, Lawrence. preceded him
in death Surviving are the following sisters; Martha Morgan of
Feasterville; Myrtle Kennedy. Holtwood; and Betty Ann Dell. Conneaut.
Ohio. Two brothers and a sister are deceased: Robert C. Kidd, Thomas T.
Kidd, and Evelyn Cornelius. Several nieces and nephews survive, Mr. Kidd
was a 1942 graduate of Mount Union High School. He moved to Philadelphia
45 years ago. and later moved to Florida. 

Charles Henry "Butch" LEWIS Jr., 53, of Atlantic City. NJ, .formerly of
Mount Union. died Wednesday, May 9, 2001. Born July 4. 1947, in
Huntingdon. he was the son of the late Charles Lewis Sr. His mother,
the formerr Helen Williams. survives n Atlantic City. He married Nellie
Jackson in 1967, Surviving are a son. Bernard Lewis of Washington. D.C..
and a daughter. Mrs. William (Cynthia) Perkins III of Fort Hood, Texas.
Three are three grandchildren. Also surviving are and three sisters and
three brothers; Anna Mary Lewis, Karen White and Betty Lewis, all of
Atlantic City N.J.; Joseph Lewis of Galloway Township. Andrew Palmer of
Atlantic City, and Michael Palmer. Pleasantvilile, NJ. A number of
uncles, aunts and four cousins survive Mr. Lewis was reared in Mount
Union and was baptized at age 12 at the Mount Hope Missionary Church in
Mount Union. He graduated from Mount Union Area School High School in
1966. He served as an infantryman in the U.S. Army and for many years
worked as a laborer and earned his apprenticeship as operating engineer.
He was knowledgeable in many subjects and enjoyed nature, hunting and
fishing with his friends. He moved to Atlantic City in 1989, where he
entered the Atlantic City Reseue Mission and graduated from the
Overcomers Program He later joined the Second Baptist Church in Atlantic
City, where he became an active member. Funeral services were held May
15, at the Second Baptist Church, Atlantic City, with the Rev Collins A.
Day and the Rev. Ezekiel G. Bey officiating. Interment was made at
Greenwood Cemetery, Pleasantville. N.J. 

Richard V. STOTLER, 86, of Newark, Ohio, died Sunday, May 20, 2001. at
the Licking Memorial Hospital. Newark. Ohio. Born Sept. 15, 1914, in
Zanesville, Ohio, he was the son of the late Stanley V and Zelpha
(Billman) Stotler. He married Frances Honenherger, Mrs. Stoner survives
at home. along with a son, David V. Stotler of Newark, Ohio. and a
daughter, Mrs. Donald (Patricia) Powell, Strasburg. There are four
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Stotlce was a former
resident of Huntingdon. He retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas in
Toledo in 1976, as a senior project engineer He was a member of the
First Untied Methodist Church in Newark and the Candle Lighters. He
belonged to the Owens Corning Technology Center Retirees; was a member
and volunteer for the ITT Museum; Charter Member of AARP 3494; and was a
58-year member of Masonic organizations, including Warren Chapter 6,
Bigelow Chapter 7, St. Luke’s Commandery 34. He enjoyed the CB radio
known as Roadrunner and was a former member and volunteer for the Heisey
Museum. Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Thursday, May 24, at the
Brucker & Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21St St., Newark, Ohio, with the
Rev. Thad McGhee and the Rev. Richard Clark officiating. Interment will
be made in the Cedar Hill Cemetery. 

Peter H. B. NORTON Jr.. 51, of Box 406 Mercer Rd.. Franklin, died at his
home May 17, 2001. His death was unexpected. Born July 9. 1949. in
Scranton, he was the son of Peter H.B. Norton Sr. of Huntingdon, R.D. 3.
and the late Mary Louise Norton. His mother preceded him in death in
August 1998. Mr. Norton is survived by a son, Peter J. Norton. and a
daughter, Rebeckah A. Norton. both of Emlenton. Also surviving are two
brothers and a sister. Jeffrey P. Norton of Louisville, Ky.. Andrew J.
Norton of Carlisle. and Deborah J. N. Harris of Glenview, Ill. Mr.
Norton was a graduate of the Huntingdon Area High School Class of 1967.
He attended Hagerstown Community College in Hagerstown. Md.. and Point
Park College in Pittsburgh. He was employed by the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania, in the Department of Welfare’s Care Facility at Polk
Center. Polk. He retired in 1999. He was active in his church, the
Franklin Assembly of God Church. He was the church organist and pianist
and devoted to his family. His hobbies included golfing, reading and
playing pinochle. A memorial service was held at his church May 20.

Emma M. BROWN, 93. formerly of Ridgley Street, Orbisonia, died at
5:50 a.m. Monday. May 21. 2001. at the Woodland Retirement Center,
Orbisonia. Born July 13, 1907, in Cromwell Township, Huntingdon County.
she was a daughter of the late Robert and Ella (Booher) Jacka. She was
united in marriage to Sheldon Brown April 29. 1927. Mr. Brown preceded
her in death July 12. 1971. One son. Jack R. Brown, preceded her in
death. Surviving are two sisters: Myrtle Cohenour of the Shirley Home
for the Aged, Shirleysburg, and Betty Stevens of Orbisonia. She was
preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters: Clair. Thomas.
Norman, Elsie Jacka and Viola Bowen. Mrs. Brown was a member of the
Orhisonia United Methodist Church. She also belonged to the Mount Union
Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and the Frances Rebekah Lodge, Three
Springs. Mrs. Brown retired from the former Bowman’s Department Store
in Orbisonia, after many years of service. Funeral services will be
held at 2 p.m.	Wednesday, May 23, at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home,
Orbisonia. with the Rev. William Hughes officiating. Interment will be
made in the Three Springs Cemetery.

Grant Allen GUTSHALL, 90. of Pitt Street, Hustontown. died at 8:15 p.m.
Sunday, May 20. 2001. at his home. Born Sept. 26, 1910, in Cromwell
Township, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late Simon and Sybil
(Flasher) Gutshall. He married Margaret Ruth Hershey May 11, 1940. Mrs.
Gutshall survives at home, along with a sister, Alice Hearn of
Huntingdon. One infant daughter. Verna Hazel Gutshall, is deceased. He
was also preceded in death by two brothers and a sister: Phillip
Gutshall, William Gutshall and Myrtle Moore. Mr. Gutshall was a member
of the Hustontown United Methodist Church and the Hustontown Area Senior
Citizens. In his early years, he worked as a farmer and coal miner. His
last employment was at Letterkennv Army Depot for 22 years. For a number
of years, he also worked for Herbling Products. He enjoyed hunting and
fishing and played the banjo with several local groups for festivals and
homecomings. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday. May 24.
at the M.R. Brown Funeral Home. Hustontown. with Pastor George
Clippinger and Pastor Chris Elliott officiating. Interment will be made
in the Hustontown Cemetery.

Edward A. WALTERS, 85, of 360 Westminster Dr., Huntingdon. formerly of
216 Sherwood Dr., Johnstown, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001. at 2:38 am.,
at The Oaks at Westminster Woods. Born Jan. 16, 1916, in Indianapolis,
Indiana, he was the son of the late Edward I. and Pat (Murphy) Walters.
He married Bette J. Knorr Dec. 30. 1939. in Chicago. Ill. Mrs. Walters
preceded him in death in 1994. Surviving are a son and a daughter;
Lawrence E. Walters of Morton Grove, Ill., and Valerie A. (Walters)
Cassot, Huntingdon. There are seven grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren. Two daughters, Gayle (Walters) Koyen and Diane
Walters, preceded him in death. One brother, William Walters of Florida.
survives. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Peterson. Mr.
Walters attended the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Huntingdon. He
was a charter member of Queen of Martyrs in Chicago, Ill., and a member
of Our Mother of Sorrows in Johnstown for nearly 50 years. He attended
the parochial schools in Chicago, Ill., and graduated in 1953 from the
Whalton School of Commerce in Chicago. Ill., with a degree in
accounting. He retired from Johnstown Works of U.S. Steel in 1976, as a

of the Senior Citizens Center of Johnstown. He was an avid bowler,
bridge player and internet surfer and he also enjoyed reading. He had
been a resident of Huntingdon County for 1 1/2 years and had lived in
Johnstown for nearly 50 years, A private memorial service will be held
at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. David J. Arseneault

R. Dale WITTER, 81, of Waterfall, died at 9:55 p.m. Monday. May 21
2001, at the Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg. Born May 29,
1919, in Waterfall. he was a son of the late Roy W. and Freda Maude
(Alloway) Witter. He married the former Violet V. Long Dcc. 20. 1947.
Mrs. Witter survives at home, along with three children: Mrs. James
(Faye) Butts and Mrs. Clair (Kathy) Hedrick. both of McConnellsburg, and
Richard Witter, Annville. There are six grandchildren. Also surviving
are two sisters; Mary Alice Witter of the Woodland Retirement Center,
Orbisonia, and Doris Oakman of New Haven, Ky. Mr. Witter was of the
Protestant faith. He was engaged in farming hisentire life and was also
employed for 20 years at Cowans Gap State Park by the former Department
of Forests and Waters. He was also a former emp1oyee of Taylor
Township, Fulton County, and in his earlier years worked at the former
Allowavs Esso in McConnellsburg. Funeral services will he held at 2 p.m.

Shirley M. MERTIFF, 71, of RD. 4. Box 23, Tyrone. died at 9:30 am.
Tuesday. May 22. 2001, at her home. She was born May 14, 1930, at Union
Furnace, the daughter of Milton F. and Ethel V. (Brindle) Gensimore.
She was married to Robert Percy Mertiff Aug. 20, 1948, in Tyrone. He
died May 20, 1999. She is survived by three children; Robert M. Mertiff,
Virginia K. Scott and Paula A. Scott, all of Tyrone. Also surviving are
11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Three brothers and five
sisters survive: Guy Gensimore, Hollidaysburg; Ronald Gensimore,
Greenwood; Milton Gensimore, Alexandria: Luellen Omalley, Geneva, N.Y;
Gladys Lamey, Loganton; Gloria McCool, Petersburg: Mary Waltz,
Petersburg and Marge Carper, Eden Hill. She was preceded in death by a
daughter, JoAnn and two sisters, Georgie Gensimore and Florine Fike.

Frances F. (Hoffman) STEVENS, 86, of 301 Rolling Ridge Dr., State
College, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at 6:50 am, at Centre Community
Hospital, State College. Born Nov. 20, 1914, in Petersburg, she was the
daughter of the late John "Jack" and Ethel (Stryker) Hoffman. Surviving
are four children: Del bert C. Stevens Jr., Pennsylvania Furnace; Mrs.
Larry (Ann) Irvin. Huntingdon; Mrs. James (Janet M.) Troxell,
Murraysville; and Edward H. Stevens. Jacksonville. Fla. There are 12
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A grandson, Steven W.
Irvin, died June 27, 1991. One sister, Elsie M. Rupert of Saxton.
survives. She was preceded in death by a brother, John H. Hoffman. A
1932 graduate of Petersburg Vocational High School. she received a
bachelor of arts degree in music from Juniata College in 1936. Mrs.
Stevens had been a music teacher, specializing in private lessons for
over 20 years. She had also been employed as a ward secretary at the
Altoona Hospital for ten years. She had been affiliated with St. Paul’s
Lutheran Church where she had been the organist for 17 years. Her love
was music and she was also an avid reader and enjoyed crochet and
needlework. Born and raised in Petersburg, she resided for many years in
Altoona after receiving her degree from Juniata. She had lived at her
State College home for the past 15 years. Funeral services will beheld
at 2 p.m., Friday. May 25, at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, Juniata
Valley Chapel, 412 Main St. Alexandria, with the Rev. John C. Dean
officiating. Interment will he made in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Joanne (Rinker) MINAYA, 79, of 625 Sixth St., Huntingdon, died Thursday.
May 24, 2001, at 11:10 p.m.. at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital.
Huntingdon. Her death was unexpected. Born Feb. 23, 1922, in Huntingdon,
she was the daughter of the late George Rodrick and Nellie May (Corbin)
Rinker. She married Edmund F. Minaya Dec. 25, 1942, at the First Regular
Baptist Church, Huntingdon. Surviving are four sons; Roderick E.
Minaya, Camp Hill; Jed V. Minaya, Mechanicsburg; Curt V. Minaya,
Binghamton, N.Y.; and Richard L. Minaya, Lansing. Mich. There are 11
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One sister. Mrs. Robert
(Betty) Hall of Huntingdon. survives. Mrs. Minaya was a member of the
First Regular Baptist Church, Huntingdon. She was active in her church,
serving on the board of deacons, the board of missions and the board of
trustees. She was also a member of the American Baptist Women’s Group
and the Huntingdon County Historical Society. She retired as a secretary
for the Department of Health March 28, 1988, after 15 years of service.
She attended the Huntingdon public schools and graduated with honors
from the Huntingdon High School in 1941. She had been a resident of
Huntingdon County for most of her life. Mrs. Minaya was an avid
gardener and had won many awards at the Huntingdon County Fair for her
beautiful flowers. A memorial service will be held at the First Regular
Baptist Church, Sixth and Mifflin streets, Huntingdon, Tuesday, May 29,
at 11 am., with the Rev. David D. Oldham officiating. Private interment
will be made in the Riverview Cemetery, 245 Standing Stone Ave.,
Huntingdon. 

Richard Earl HEFRIGHT, 80, of RD. 3. Box 323 A, Henderson Township.
Huntingdon County, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at 4:25 p.m., at J.C.
Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. His death was unexpected. Born
Oct. 13, 1920, in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late Emerson and
Minnie (Hughes) Hefright. He married Martha S. Kemp Nov. 9, 1945, at the
Lutheran Church of Hollidaysburg, with the Rev. Rigby officiating. Mrs.
Hefright survives at their Henderson Township home, along with a
daughter and son: Mrs. Harvey (Lynne A.) Eichensehr Fireman of Bensalem
and Eric K. Hefright, Livingston, Montana. There are three grandchildren
and two great-grandchildren. One brother. Don Hefright of Emporium,
survives. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Cloyd, Robert and
Paul Hefright, and two sisters, Martha Grove and Mabel Sanford. Mr.
Hefright retired in 1982, after 30 years of service at SCI Huntingdon,
as manager of corrections industries. He was a member of St. James
Lutheran Church, Huntingdon. He was a life member of the Standing Stone
VFW Post 1754 and Frank P. Hommon American Legion Post 24, both of
Huntingdon; was a member of AARP, the Friends of the Huntingdon County
Library; honorary member of the Huntingdon County Sheriff’s
Association; and Standing Stone Senior Citizens. A 1938 graduate of
Huntingdon High School. he served in the U.S. Army from 1940 until 1945.
He was a staff sergeant with the First Army Division, Fifth Engineer
Battalion, in the European Theater of War, Mr. Hefright had been a
lifetime resident of Huntingdon County and had lived at his Henderson
Township home since 1981. Funeral services will be held at 11 am.
Tuesday, May 29. at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, 207 Ridge Road,
Smithfield Township, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Peter J. Naschke
officiating. Interment will be made in the Cassville Cemetery, with full
military honors. 

Glenn A. LEAMER Sr., 76, of Huntingdon, formerly of Hollidaysburg and
Lakemont, died early Friday morning, May 25, 2001, at J.C. Blair
Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Surviving are his wife, E. Louise Learner
of Huntingdon, three daughters and a son: Mary C. Scott, Hollidaysburg,
R.R.; Margaret A. Balliet, Williamsport; Karen L. Slater, Albany, N.Y.;
and Glenn A. Leamer Jr., Altoona. There are eight grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by infant sons, James and
Joseph. Mr. Leamer was a retired mechanic and a U.S. Army veteran of
World War II. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 27,
at the Sorge Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg, with the Rev. Robert C.
Codding officiating. Interment will be made in the New Canoe Creek
Cemetery.

Clayton Everett Ott, 84, of McKeesport, died at 1 p.m. Friday. May 25,
2001. at UPMC McKeesport, McKeesport. Born March 15, 1917, in
Orbisonia, he was the son of the late Philip and Juniata (Brodbeck)
Ott. He married Mary C. Ott June 1, 1941, in Chamhershurg. Mrs. Ott
preceded him in death March 23. 1979. One son. Stephen W. Ott of North
Huntingdon, survives, along with two grandsons and one
great-granddaughter. One sister, Carolyn Longenecker of Palmyra,
survives. Three brothers preceded him in death. Mr. Ott was a member of
the United Presbyterian Church, East McKeesport. He attended Juniata
College and the U.S. Army Engineering School at Fort Belvoir, Va. For 32
years, he worked for the ‘ U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. A veteran of
World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre of War.
He was among the first wave of engineers to enter Japan at the end of
the war. Funeral services will he held at 2 p.m. Tuesday. May 29, at the
Martin R. Brown Funeral Home. Orhisonia. with the Rev. Rick Eminhizer
officiating. Interment will he made in the Orbisonia Cemetery.

Joseph G. CORRIE, 52, of RD. 1, Box 21, Six Mile Run, died unexpectedly
Wednesday. May 23, 2001, at 9:10 p.m., at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens,
Ga. Born May 15, 1949, in Bedford County, he was the son of the late
Isaac and Arlene (Hughes) Corrie. He is survived by his stepfather,
Harold Leger of Duncansville. He married Patsy C. Odom Oct. 10, 1975, in
Houston, Texas. Mrs. Corrie survives at home, along with the following
children: Jody L. Price, James Creek; Joseph Corrie Jr. and Cathy
Cottle, both of Everett; and Bobbie Jo Corrie, Broad Top City. Two
stepdaughters. Karen R. Housel of York and Jamie R. Davis of Montgomery.
Texas. survive. There are 14 grandchildren. One stepson, Jimmy 0.
Davis. preceded him in death. He is survived by several siblings: Paul
Corrie, Riddlesburg; Angeline Zelanko, Defiance; Diane Leader,
Cassville; Sharon Childers, Everett; and Tena Miller, James Creek, RD.
1. One sister, Linda Wright. is deceased. Mr. Corrie was of the Baptist
faith. He was a construction foreman for Century Construction Company in
Matthews. N.C., for the past five years. He enjoyed restoring vehicles

the past two months. Born Nov. 22, 1914, in Hesston. RD.. she was the
daughter of the late William Garner and Anna M. (Norris) Hawn. She
married Sherman Drolsbaugh May 5. 1942. in Orbisonia. He preceded her in
death Oct. 2, 1982. One daughter, Darlene Stallman, preceded her in
death Jan. 26, 1996. Three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren
survive. She is also survived by two sisters; Jean Holland of
Huntingdon. RD. 1. and Martha McCrum of Alexandria, RD. 1. One sister,
Ethel Miller, is deceased. Mrs. Drolsbaugh was a member of the First
United Methodist Church in Huntingdon. She also belonged to the ladies

was employed as a licensed practical nurse at Dauphin County Hospital,
then at the Masonic Home in Elizahethtown and most recently at Epworth

Myrtle E. ROWE, 90. formerly of High Street, West Milton and of
Huntingdon, died Saturday evening, May 26, 2001, at the Valley View
Retirement Center, Belleville. Born March 5, 1911, in Lewisburg, she was
the daughter of the late John H. and Katherine (Hafer) Killian. Her
husband. Thurwell R. Rowe, preceded her in death in June 1994. Surviving
is a daughter. Mrs. Bert (Shirley M) McBrayer of Huntingdon. and two
grandsons. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bright L. Killian.
and a sister. Pauline E. Weiser. A 1929 graduate of Milton High School.
she was a homemaker. Mrs. Rowe was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran
Church. Lewisburg. RR. 3; the West Milton Garden Club; and enjoyed
knitting. crocheting and her grandsons activities. Funeral services

Helen Elizabeth STENINGER, 83, of Meadow Drive, Shippensburg, died at
12:18 am. Saturday, May 26, 2001, at the Shippensburg Health Care
Center, Shippensburg. Born Dec. 11, 1917, in Robertsdale, she was the
daughter of the late 0. Ross and Jane (Donaldson) Cornelius. She married
Harrison M. Steninger April 8, 1942. Mr. Steninger survives at home.
alone with the following children; Jane Summers, Boiling Springs; Joan
Hutchison, Shippensburg; Nancy Smith, HCR 60, Orbisonia: Louis
Steninger, Lititz; and Larry Steninger. Landisville. There are 17
grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Four brothers are deceased;
Glenn Cornelius, Edgar Cornelius, Fred Cornelius and Orlando Cornelius.
Five siblings died in infancy. Mrs. Steninger was a member of the
Orbisonia Church of the Nazarene, where she taught the children’s
Sunday School class for many years. Previously, she oversaw the
children’s nursery. She was primarily a homemaker. Funeral services will

Sara Jane D. WORKMAN, 84, of 930 E. Brandon Dr., Chambersburg, died at
6:06 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2001, after a short illness, at Manorcare
Health Services, Chambersburg. Born Sept. 4, 1916, in Chambersburg, she
was a daughter of the late Blain and Grace (Feldman) Dulebohn. The
Dulebohns were one of the first families to settle in Franklin County in
the 1700’s. Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Willard I. Workman,
and a son, Thomas W. Workman of Chambersburg A half-brother preceded her
in death. A graduate of Bucknell University, she belonged to its Phi Mu
Fraternity, She also attended the former Chambersburg Business School.
During World War II she was a secretary for the chief of staff at
Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg. Funeral services will he held
Wednesday, May 30. at 2 p.m., at the Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297
Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. Interment will be made in Norland
Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Angelo F. FEROLETO, 76, of 1950 Cliffside Dr., State College, died
Monday, May 28, 2001, at Brookline Village, State College. Born Dec.
21, 1924. in Huntingdon, he was the son of the late Thomas and Frances
Feroleto. He married JoAnne P. Stover July 16, 1974. She preceded him in
death June 2, 1999. One sister, Mary Yeager of Altoona. survives. Mr.
Feroleto was a member of the Coleville Wesleyan Church. A 1942 graduate
of Huntingdon High School, he was employed at SCI Rockview, retiring in
1986. A veteran of World War II. he served in the U.S. Army and was a
member of the Frank P Hommon American Legion Post 24, Huntingdon.

Scott L. "Sporty" Stevenson, 33, of Coalmont, died unexpectedly at 8:52
p.m. Saturday. May 26, 2001. Born Feb. 13, 1968. at J.C. Blair Memorial
Hospital, Huntingdon. he was the son of the late Samuel W. Stevenson and
Ruth (Putt) Figard, who survives in Finleyville. He married Sandra R.
Drenning May 11, 1987. In addition to his wife and mother, he is
survived by a son, Marcus Stevenson, and a daughter, Brooke Stevenson,
both at home. He is also survived by two brothers, Keith Stevenson of
Broad Top and Sam Stevenson of Marble City, and a sister, Lacy Stevenson
of Marble City. His grandmother, Rachel Stevenson of Dudley, survives.
Mr. Stevenson worked as an equipment operator and as an on-lot foreman
for the new sewage project in Broad Top Township. He attended the Broad
Top Church of God as a child. He was a great outdoorsman, who enjoyed
hunting, fishing and was an avid golfer An enthusiastic fan, he
followed the Tussey Mountain basketball and baseball teams. He was a
member of the Broad Top Sportsman Association and the Watson and Black
American Legion Post 126, Broad Top. A memorial service was held May 29
at 10 am., at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home, Broad Top, with Pastor
Donald Simmons officiating.

Margaretta SCHREIBER, 89. of R.R. 1, Box 18, Shirleysburg, died at 6
p.m. Sunday, May 27, 2001, at the home of her daughter, Dorothy J.
Spennati. also of Shirleysburg. R.R. 1. where she had been residing for
the past several years. Born March 1, 1912. in Jersey Shore. she was the
daughter of the late Maynard and Kathryn (Reed) Smith. She first married
Edward W. Walker II, who preceded her in death. She married her second
husband, V. Theodore Schreiber Feb. 11, 1949, in Williamsport. He died
Nov. 12. 1986. Surviving are three children: Edward W. Walker III of
Mount Union. R.R. 2; Dorothy J. Spennati of Shirleysburg. R.R. 1; and
Paul R. Walker of West Palm Beach, Fla. There are 11 grandchildren. six
step-grandchildren. numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-
grandson. One daughter, Kay F. Cummings, a son, Larry Smith, and a
grandchild preceded her in death. One brother, Robert E. Smith, is
deceased. Mrs. Schreiber was a member of the Germany Valley Church of
the Brethren. She was a homemaker and the last charter member of the
Huntingdon County Farm Women, She also belonged to the Shirleysburg
Heritage Association. Funeral services will be held at 11 am.

David Donald "Fireball" TREECE, 69, of R.R. 1. Box 81, James Creek, died
Friday, May 25, 2001. at 5:30 p.m., at Huntingdon Manor, following an
extended illness. Born Sept. 30. 1931, in Cherrytown, he was the son of
the late David R. and Iratta C. (Edwards) Treece. He married Martha J.
Suba Nov. 2, 1959. in Hagerstown, Md. Mrs. Treece survives at home,
along with three children: Edward Treece of Saxton, Joseph Treece of
Alexandria and Michael Treece, at home. There are four grandchildren.
One son, Patrick, is deceased. Two siblings survive: Gerald Treece of
James Creek, RD. 1. and Bonnie Gerhart of Lansdale. He was preceded in
death by a sister, Veda Walko. Mr. Treece was of the Methodist faith. He
was a member of the Moose Lodge in Huntingdon, Saxton VFW and Saxton
Sportsman Association. He retired in 1991, after 26 years as a heavy
equipment operator for PennDOT. Mr. Treece enjoyed hunting and shooting

Russell William SNYDER, 60, of 600 Penn St., Huntingdon, formerly of
Petersburg, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at 2:30 p.m., at his
residence. His death was unexpected. Born May 5, 1941, in Mount Union, he
was the son of Rolland H. and Violet M. (Costlow) Snyder. He is survived
by his mother in Petersburg. He is survived by the following children:
Mrs. Greg (Rita Renee) Ayers, Phoenix. Ariz.: Stephanie Ann Snyder,
Alexandria: Patrick Leonard Snyder, Duncansville; Mrs. Michael (Samantha
Katherine) O’Neil, Aurora. Colorado. One step-daughter, Heidi Jo Frye of
Duncansville, survives. There are seven grandchildren. Also surviving
are two sisters and a step-sister: Mrs. Kenneth (Joan) Rhody.
Stroudsburg; Mrs. Paul H. (Rita) McDonel, Alexandria; and his twin,
Mrs. Larry (Margaret Ann) Kissinger. Williamsburg. He was preceded in
death by two brothers, David Lloyd Snyder June 9, 2000. and John Rolland
Snyder, March 11. 1995. Mr. Snyder owned and operated a television
repair business prior to his retirement. He also installed carpets and
did finishing work for a dry wall contractor. Mr. Snyder was of the
Protestant faith. A 1960 graduate of Juniata Valley High School, he was
an avid reader and skilled wood craftsman. He served in the U.S. Air
Force from Feb. 13, 1961 until June 1, 1962, as an aircraft mechanic. He
was stationed with the 405th Fighter Wing at Travis Air Force Base.
California. A lifetime resident of Huntingdon County, he had lived at
his Blair House residence since January 2001. A memorial service will be
held at 11 am. Wednesday, May 30, at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home,
Juniata Valley Chapel, 412 Main St., Alexandria, with Pastor Don Costlow
officiating. Interment will be private.

William A. HODGE, 91, of 226 Hodge Lane, Six Mile Run, died Saturday,
May 26, 2001, at home. His death was unexpected. Born July 1, 1909. in
Karthaus, he was the son of the late John and Meloy (Coudrit) Hodge. He
married Hilda Nearhood December 1928. She preceded him in death in 1933.
He later married Dorothy M. Haney Dec.31, 1940, in Winchester. Va. She
died March 17, 1995. Surviving are two children: James L. Hodge of Six
Mile Run and George W. Hodge of Cambridge Springs. There are 11
grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and three
great-great-grandchildren. One son, David James Hodge, a daughter Louise
VanHorn, and a great-grandson, are deceased. One sister, Mary Goodrow of
Emporium. survives. Six brothers and one sister are deceased. Mr. Hodge
was a member of the Raven Run Church of the Brethren. A veteran of World
War II, he served in the U.S. Army Military Police. A 1935 graduate of
Ross L. Leffler School of Conservation, he also attended courses on
investigtation and criminal justice. In 1973, he retired after 35 years
as superintendent of the South Central Division of the Pennsylvania
Game Commission in Huntingdon. His memberships included the following:

p.m., at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with Pastor Dan
Hammel officiating. Interment will be made in the Duvall Cemetery, Six
Mile Run, with full military honors.

Miriam (Strait) GROVE, 89, of 110 Montague Circle, Williamsburg, Va.,
formerly of Huntingdon, died Monday, May 28, 2001, at 4:30 am., at
Williamsburg Community Hospital, Williamsburg, Va. Born Oct. 26, 1911,
on the farm at Raystown, Juniata Township, Huntingdon County, she was
the daughter of the late Clyde and Jessie (Atherton) Strait, She married
Elijah Richard Grove April 27, 1934, in Fredericksburg, Md. He preceded
her in death Feb. 29, 1956. Surviving are three daughters: Mrs. Gerald
(Miriam Grove) Brierley, Dublin. Ohio: Sara Jane (Grove) Stratton,
Greenville, S.C.; and Mrs. Jack (Bonnie Grove) Christie, Williamsburg,
Va, There are 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. One daughter,
Darla Grove Burket, preceded her in death February 1966. Three brothers
survive: Wilbert Strait, McKeesport; Richard Strait, Huntingdon: and
Clyde Strait, Huntingdon. One brother and one sister are deceased:
Kenneth Strait, who had resided in McConnellstown, and Alice (Strait)
Edwards, who had resided in Pitcairn. Mrs. Grove was a member of the
Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Huntingdon. For many years,
she was supervisor of the early childhood development department. She
taught at the one-room schools in Lincoln and Tell townships before
teaching in Smithfield Township. Her 50-year teaching career included
positions in Smithfield Elementary School, Mill Creek Elementary
School, Head Start, Jack and Jill Nursery, founded in 1974. She retired
from there in 1988, at the age of 77. Mrs. Grove attended the Hawn’s
Bridge School until the eighth grade. She attended the Huntingdon High
School and graduated from Battin High School in Elizabeth, N.J. A 1931
graduate of West Chester State Teacher’s College, she also pursued post
graduate studies at the University of Maryland. She had been a resident
of Huntingdon County from 1911 until 1980, and had lived at her current
residence since the summer 1988. Mrs. Grove enjoyed quilting and was a
student of American presidencies, presidents and their first ladies.
She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A funeral service
will he held at the John B. Brown Funeral Home. Huntingdon, Friday, June
1, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Aaron Henning officiating. Interment will he
made In the Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon.

Gerald D. BRENNAN, 64. of 54 Spring Dr., Martinsburg, died Wednesday
morning, May 30, 2001, at his residence, after a lengthy illness. Born
July 28, 1936, in Saxton, R.R. 1, he was a son of the late John and Leda
E. (Blake) Brennan. His mother survives in Saxton. R.R. 1. He married
Lillie Ann Worthing July 16, 1954, in Winchester. Va. Surviving, along
with his wife, are a daughter and a son: Mrs. Ron (Deborah) Long of
Saxton and Willis D. Brennan of Loysburg. There are three grandsons.
Three brothers survive: Frank, Robert and James, all of Saxton, R.R. 1.
One brother, Michael, is deceased. Mr. Brennan was a member of the
Memorial Church of the Brethren. Martinsburg. He retired as an asbestos
worker and foreman from the Asbetos Workers Union, Local No. 28,
Harrisburg, in 1997, after 35 years of service. A 1955 graduate of
Saxton-Liberty School, he participated in football and baseball. He
enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, sports, golfing and attending all Jaffa
Shrine functions. Mr. Brennan was a member and officer of the Woodbury
Lodge No. 539, F&AM, Roaring Spring; Scottish Rite Consistory; Jaffa
Shrine Temple, where he currently served as personal aide to the
treasurer and as a Potentate’s Aide; Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Mount
Moriah Chapter No. 166; member and past president of the Cove Area
Shrine Club: charter member and officer of the Order of the Quetzal
Coatl: and was a past Jaffa Temple trustee for six years. Funeral
services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at the John C. Bolger
Funeral Home, Inc., Martinsburg, with Pastor Frank F. Wheeland and
Pastor Elizabeth A. Hess officiating. Interment will he made in the
Fockler Cemetery, Saxton. 

Charles G. Evans, 90, of 1440 E. Queen St., Annville, died Monday, May
21, 2001 at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Surviving are
his wife, Dorothy A. (Thompson) Evans of Annville, formerly of
Huntingdon, one son, Alan W. Evans of Philadelphia and a daughter, Carol
R. Frizzera, Baltimore Md. There are three grandchildren, six
step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild
Mr. Evans was a member and deacon of the Christ Church United Church of
Christ of Annville, its Charles Shearer Sunday School Class and Men’s
Brotherhood. He was also a member of ARCO Retirees Club of Reading and
Cleona Fire Company, He retired as a supervisor from Atlantic Richfield
Company. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 23, at Annville.
Interment was made in Grand View Memorial Park, North Annville Township.

Curtis B. KELLY Sr., 80, of Kelly Row. Saxton, died at 8 p.m. Tuesday,
May 29, 2001, at his residence. Born Feb. 14, 1921, in Saxton, he was
the son of the late Michael Bruce and Ethel May (Thomas) Kelly. He
married Lillian Wyles Dec. 12, 1952, in Winchester. Va. In addition to
his wife, he is survived by two sons and two daughters: Curtis Bruce
Kelly Jr. Bloomsburg; Stephen Vaughn Kelly and Vickie Gail Kline, both
of Kelly Row, Saxton; and Deborah Lou Kelly, Broad Top. There are six
grandchildren. Two sisters and a brother also survive: Patricia Fluke,
Mifflinburg; Judith Grosse, Wharton, N.J., and Willard Kelly, Mt. Holly
Springs. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mona Hopkins and
Delores Wyles, and two brothers, Myron and Michael Kelly. Mr. Kelly was a
Christian. During World War II, he served as a private in the U.S. Army
and received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with three bronze stars,
the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star, the Good Conduct
Medal and the Victory Medal. He was employed as a custodian at Tussey
Mountain School District for 21 1/2 years, retiring in 1986. During his
life, Mr. Kelly enjoyed his grandchildren, pets, gardening, fishing and
especially reading his Bible. He was a member of the Saxton Senior
Citizens. Interment will he private at the convenience of the family at
Grandview Cemetery. Saxton, with the Rev. Stevens Burr officiating. Full
military honors will he observed. 

Samuel F. Kensinger, 75, of 1718 Washington St., Huntingdon,.formerly of
Hollidaysburg, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at 6:25 p.m.. at his home.
Born June 22, 1925, in Hollidaysburg, RD., he was the son of the late
David Earl and Mary Effie (Bowman) Kensinger. He married Josephine Belle
Fragassi Nov. 17, 1947 Mrs. Kensinger survives at home, along with the
two children: Robert Lee Kensinger of Madison, Ohio, and Patricia L.
Zook of Mount Union. There are five grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren. One son, David Samuel, preceded him in death in
1957. A brother, William D. Kensinger, of Altoona. survives. He was
preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers. Mr. Kensinger was a
truck driver for New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co. in Roaring Spring for
25 years, retiring in 1982. A veteran of World War II, he served in the
U.S. Navy as a machinists mate aboard the USS Albermarle. He was a
member of Standing Stone VFW Post 1754. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Funeral services will beheld Saturday, June 2, at 10 a.m., at the
Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. David L.
Dearing officiating. Interment will be made in the Blair Memorial Park,
Bellwood.

Betty Mae MORRISSEY, 71. of Tyrone, RD. 4, died Wednesday, May 30. 2001,
at the Tyrone Hospital, following an extended illness. Born Sept. 3.
1929. n Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late John W. and
Elizabeth (Riley) Stiver. She married David W. Morrissey Sr., who
survives in Nealmont. Also surviving are three daughters and one son:
M. Kay Romano, Tyrone; Marian E. Williams, Catherine A. Morrissey and
David W. Morrissey Jr., all of Tyrone. RD. 4. There are six
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by a daughter. Delores U. Smeltzer One sister, Marian F. Mills of
Philipsburg, survives. Mrs. Morrissey was a member of the First
Presbyterian Church, Tyrone. She attended the Waniors Mark-Franklin High
School, where she graduated in 1947, with 12 years of perfect
attendance, She had worked at various restaurants in the area for many
years and helped on the family farm. Mrs. Morrissey was a member of the
Women of the Moose, Chapter 1397, Tyrone. Funeral services will he held
Friday. June 1, at 11 am., at the Bruce F. Cox Funeral Home, Warriors
Mark, with the Rev. Robert E. Dunkelberger officiating. Interment will
be made in Grandview Cemetery, Tyrone. 

Theodore D. LENART, 57, of 8445 Ravstown Rd., Saxton, died Wednesday,
May 30, 2001 at 2:15 p.m., in the emergency room of J.C. Blair Memorial
Hospital, Huntingdon. His death was unexpected. Born July 21, 1942, in
Central City, he was the son of the late Joseph Lenart and Mary
(Kastick) Layton, who survives at Saxton RD. He married Linda Knight
Aug. 27, 1982. Mrs. Lenart survives at home, along with two children:
Brenda M. Lenart and Rebecca J. Lenart, both at home. Two brothers,
George Lenart of Burbank, Ohio, and Joseph Lenart Jr. of Central City,
survive. Mr. Lenart was a member of the Riddlesburg Bible Church. He was
a coal miner for several years and also worked at various construction
jobs. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 1, at 1 p.m., at the
D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with Pastor Jesse Musser
officiating. Interment will he. made in the Grandview Cemetery, Saxton. 

Frederick Allen DRAKE, 37, of 605 Crawford Apartments in Huntingdon,
died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at 9:19 p.m. at his residence. His death
was sudden and unexpected. Mr. Drake was born April 5, 1964, in
Huntingdon, the son of the late James Russell and Peggy Ann (Frank)
Drake He was preceded in death by his father. Surviving relatives
include his mother, Peggy Ann Drake, Meadowview Manor, McVeytown; two
brothers, Robert D. "Peanut" Frank, Alexandria, and James Russell Drake
II of Santee, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Gordon (Karen) Trimer,
Alexandria: a step-brother, Jeff Clark-Drake. Mill Creek; a
step-sister, Pam Swanger, Mill Creek; three half-sisters: Tracey
Clark-Drake, Huntingdon: Crystal Duguay, Mill Creek; and Nicole Drake of
Mill Creek. Mr Drake had been employed at the Huntingdon Community
Center for over 20 years. He was dedicated not only to his work at the
Center, but to all of the activities and events that the Center
sponsored. His true love was the Community Center and the youth of
Huntingdon. He was a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County and had been
at his Crawford Apartment home since the mid-1970s. He attended
Huntingdon Area High School. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m.,
Wednesday, June 6, at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, 207 Ridge Road,
Smithfield Township, Huntingdon. The Rev. Sharon Landis will officiate
and burial will be in the Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery.
