Jane M. HARRIS, 77, of Eden Hill, Tyrone, R.D. 4, died Saturday, Dec. 2,
2000, at 4:30 a.m., at Epworth Manor, Tyrone, following an extended
illness. Born June 19, 1923, in Hopewell, Bedford County, she was the
daughter of the late Charles M. and Gertrude Fannie (Hall) Hale. She was
united in marriage to Calvin B. Harris Jan. 12, 1946, in Cumberland, Md.
He preceded her in death Feb. 3, 1976 Surviving are three sons: Wilfred
C. Harris, Tyrone, R.D. 4; Lynn J. Harris, South Dayton, N.Y.; and Ralph
W. Harris, Tyrone. There are five grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren. Oner brother, Hershel of Tyrone, and two sisters,
Nellie Burns of Bellwood and Mary Ramsey of Huntingdon, survive. An
infant son, Calvin, and seven brothers and two sisters, preceded her in
death. A 1941 graduate of Tyrone High School, she was an active member
of the Birmingham Presbyterian Church. She was a Sunday School teacher,
choir mother, 4-H leader and den mother for Cub Scouts in Tyrone. She
loved spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Harris was primarily a
homemaker. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 10 a.m., at
the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc., Tyrone, with the Rev. Barry
Vance officiating. Interment will be made in the Graysville Cemetery. 

Glenn L. MECK, 68, of 904 Norris St., Saxton, died Dec. 2, 2000, at J.C.
Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, following a lengthy illness. Born
April 20, 1932, in Round Knob, he was the son of the late Sherman Meck
and Myrtle (Gutshall) Meck, who survives in the Saxton area. He was
united in marriage to Barbara Brockman Feb. 14, 1959, in the First
Church of God in Saxton. Surviving, along with his wife, are a son and
two daughters: Lester Meck of Saxton, Mrs. Joseph (Joni) Ripple, Saxton;
and Mrs. Gary (Bonnie) Wizar, Annville. There are three grandchildren
and one step-granddaughter. One sister, Mrs. Paul (Gilda) Hiquet of
Rocklin, Calif., survives. Mr. Meck was a life member of the First
Church of God in Saxton. A 1950 graduate of Saxton-Liberty High School,
he also completed the National School of Meat Cutting in Toledo, Ohio.
He was a butcher for 37 years, employed by Masood's IGA and the Saxton
IGA Foodliner. He retired from the Saxton IGA in 1997. He was a life
member of the Saxton Volunteer Fire Company, was an avid hunter,
fisherman and he enjoyed wooderafts and barbecuing. Funeral services
will be held Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m., at the D. Ronald Long Funeral
Chapel, Saxton, with Pastor John Robinson officiating. Interment will be
made in the Fockler Cemetery. 

Phyllis J. "Phyl" HARSHBARGER, 71, of 247 Ryde Road, McVeytown, died at
9:10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at the Huntingdon Manor, Huntingdon.
Born Nov. 4, 1929, in Oliver Township, Mifflin County, she was the
daughter of the late Robert Roy and Rosa Ethel (Kimberly) Foust. Her
husband, Clarence E. "Ducky" Harshbarger, whom she married Sept. 17,
1947, survives. Also surviving are: children, Richard L. Harshbarger,
Newton Hamilton, Marlene J. Tennis, Mountville, Mrs. Calvin J. (Darlene)
Moist, Ryde Road, McVeytown, Dennis R. Harshbarger and Mrs. Rodger
(Julia L.) Dunmire, both of Mount Union; brothers, Wilbur K. Foust,
Ohio, Marshall R. Foust and James R. Foust, both of McVeytown RR1, and
Robert L. Foust, Ferguson Valley Road, Lewistown; 11 grandchildren and
six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three
grandchildren and brothers and sisters, Melba James, Lester A. Foust,
Fay Buchanan, and Ruth Foust. She attended Rothrock High School,
McVeytown. She was a homemaker and Protestant by faith. She was a member
of the Juniata Association for the Blind. Services will be held at 10
a.m. Thursday at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the
Rev. Stephen Motter officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View
Cemetery, Mattawana. 

Dorothy V. FRANKS, 81, of Petersburg R.D., died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at
Centre Crest in Bellefonte. Born Aug. 7, 1919 in Neff Mills, she was the
daughter of the late Charles and Estella (Greene) Thompson. She was
united in marriage to Robert E. Franks Sr. June 2, 1939. He preceded her
in death Nov. 8, 1987. Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Fred (Bonnie K.)
Stangl of Langhorne and four sons, Robert E. of Lemont, Richard E. Jr.
of Bellefonte, Herbert M. of Centre Hall and Duane E. of Petersburg,
R.D. Two sisters, Margaret Hutchison of Petersburg R.D., and Esther
Martin of Aaronsburg; two brothers, E. Vance Thompson of Petersburg R.D.
and R. Eugene Thompson of Perryville, Mo. survive. Mrs. Franks was of
the Methodist faith. She was a 1938 graduate of Petersburg Vocational
High School and had been a staff assistant in the food service
department at Penn State, for ten years, retiring in 1975. Mrs. Franks
was a member of the Neshaminy Senior Citizens, the Petersburg Homemakers
Club, attended the senior citizens club in Alexandria and had been a
Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. She was a loving mother, who enjoyed
cooking and sewing. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 7, at
10 a.m. at the Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St. in State College
with the Revs. Carl Hill and Shirley Russell officiating. Interment will
be made in the Mooresville Cemetery, Petersburg, R.D. 

Gary L. Miller, 64, of R.D. 2 Box 259, Mount Union, died at 12:15 a.m.
Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at the Hiliview Nursing Center, Altoona, following
a brief illness. Born March 1, 1936, in Huntingdon, he was the son of
the late Cloyd and Thelda (Moore) Miller. He was united in marriage to
Gladys M. Ramsey Aug. 15, 1954, in Mount Union. She preceded him in
death May 23,1994. Four children survive: Kevin L. Miller, McVeytown,
R.D. 1; Lynette Parson, Shade Gap; Bryan L. Miller, Shirleysburg, R.D.
1; and Codie Miller, Mount Union. There are eight grandchildren. Also
surviving are a sister, Sonnie Luebke of Erie; a half-sister, Anne Lord
of Erie; and a half-brother, Bennie Manendo of Pittsburgh. A
half-sister, Carol Miller, preceded him in death. Mr. Miller attended
the Shirley Township schools. He retired from Penn Central Nationial
Bank in Mount Union in 1994, after a number of years of service. He was
a current member of the Shirley Township Sewer Authority and the
Allenport Lions Club. During the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S.
Army. Mr. Miller enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his
family and friends. He was of the Protestant faith. The funeral service
will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at the Robert D. Heath
Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Dayton Sines officiating.
Interment will be made in the Mount Union Cemetery. 

Elizabeth A. LAMEY, 88, of Rebersburg, died Saturday,, Dec. 2, 2000, at
The Fairways at Brookline Village in State College. Born May 15, 1912,
in Rebersburg, she was a daughter of the late Charles A. and Mabel E.
(Klinefelter) Page. She was united in marriage to Howard Z. Lamey Sept.
17, 1943. He preceded her in death May 31, 1996. Surviving are three
sons: Steven C. of Morgantown, W.Va.; Dr. Robert C. of Huntingdon; and
Gary A., at home. There are two granddaughters. One sister, Phyllis P.
Grubbs of Rebersburg survives. A 1931 graduate of Miles Township High
School, she graduated from Lock Haven Teachers College. She was a
teacher at the elementary school in Rebersburg. Mrs. Lamey was a member
of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Rebersburg. Memorial services
will be announced at a later date. 

Andrew J. GAUDLIP, 88, of Hollidaysburg, formerly of Portage, died Dec.
5, 2000, at the Allegheny Lutheran Home, Hollidaysburg. Born March
19,1912, in Portage, he was the son of the late Andrew and Veronica
Gaudlip. His wife, the former Anna Dubis, preceded her in death.
Surviving are a son, John Gaudlip of Alexandria, and five grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren. One son, Andrew, preceded him in death.
One sister, Agnes Harilla and a brother, Frank Gaudlip, both of Portage,
survive. Two brothers, Joseph and John, and sisters, Mary McCalmont and
Nellie Schrader, preceded him in death. Mr. Gaudlip was a retired coal
miner, last employed by Tandy Coal Co. He was a charter member of Shady
Springs Club. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8,
at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hammers Street,
Portage, with the Rev. Ronald V. Osinski officiating. Committal will be
made in St. Mary's Cemetery, Portage. 

Mildred 1. "Millie" LAMBERSON, 93, formerly of Huntingdon and most
recently a resident of the Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, died
at 6:45 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at the center. She died following a
brief illness. Born Oct. 28,1918 in Clearfield, she was the daughter of
the late Clarence and Grace (Antes) Greene. She was united in marriage
to Virl W. Lamberson Sr., who preceded her in death Oct. 10, 1968. Two
children, Carol J. Lamberson and Virl W. "Junior" Lamberson Jr., both of
Huntingdon, survive. There are two grandchildren, three
great-grandchildren and. two great-great-grandchildren. One brother and
a sister, Leslie Green of Clearfield and Mary Shiveley of Green River,
Wyo., survive. One sister, Charlotte Wilkins, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Lamberson was of the Protestant faith. She was a homemaker. Funeral
services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at the Robert D.
Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with Pastor James S. Thomas
officiating. Interment will be made in the IOOF Cemetery, Mapleton. 

Thomas Orin MERRELL, 53, of 3705 S. George Mason Dr., Apt. 713, Falls
Church, Va., formerly of Huntingdon, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000. Born
Nov. 15, 1947, in Stoneham Mass., he was the son of Martha J. (Jacobs)
Merrell Wible, who survives in Huntingdon, and the late John Orin
Merrell. One son, Hunter F. Merrell of Park City, Utah, survives, along
with a grandson. Two brothers, Robert J. Merrell of Lewisburg and R.
Scott Merrell of Huntingdon also survive. A 1965 graduate of Huntingdon
High School, Mr. Merrell attended the University of Villanova for a year
and then was accepted to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. He
graduated in 1970 with a bachelor of science degree. For two years, he
served aboard the USS McMorris as the CIC officer and later was selected
for Navy Supply School in Athens, Va., after which he served as supply
officer aboard the USS Richard E. Byrd, a guided missile destroyer for
two years. Mr. Merrell served in various positions in Washington, D.C.,
including the cruise missile project and on the staff of the assistant
secretary of the Navy. He retired from the Navy as a commander in 1991.
After his retirement, he was employed by Science Application
International in Falls Church, Va., as a senior contracts manager. His
three great passions were his grandson, Noah, fly fishing and the
mountains of Pennsylvania. Funeral services will be held Thursday,
December 7 at 2 p.m. at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon,
with the Rev. G. Edward Cocnelius officiating. 

Mary MIDURI, 90, of 153 Easterly Dr., Mechanicsburg, formerly of Mount
Union, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 5, 2000, at the Holy Spirit Hospital,
Camp Hill. Born July 2, 1910, in Mount Union, she was the daughter of
the late Vasili and Elena (Berley) Cucu. She was united in marriage to
Sosti Miduri in July 1929. He preceded her in death May 18, 1968. Mrs.
Miduri is survived by seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, a
number of nieces and nephews, and the following two sisters: Anna Larney
of Camp Hill and Betty Czekalski of Natrona Heights. Her daughter, Pat
Waffen, who had resided in Ohio, and her son, Patrick Miduri, who was
from Mechanicsburg, preceded Mrs. Miduri in death. Mrs. Miduri attended
the Mount Union schools and was a homemaker. She was of the Catholic
faith. The funeral service will be conducted Friday, Dec. 8, at 10:30
a.m., at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, 61 E. Shirley St., Mount
Union, with the Rev. Elwood Figurelle officiating. Interment will be
made in St. Catherine's Catholic Cemetery, Shirleysburg. 

Kathy Ellen CROSS, 42, of Waterfall, died Dec. 6, 2000, at her home.
Born Dec. 23, 1957, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of Veda (Hess)
Rhoat, who survives, and the late Carl Julian Rhoat. She was united in
marriage to Larry W. Cross, Dec. 29, 1985. Two children, Mandy Williams
of Waterfall and Michael Rhoat of Robertsdale, survive. Four brothers,
John S. Rhoat, Tom Rhoat and Tim Rhoat, all of Robertsdale and Jeff
Rhoat of Wells Tannery, survive. There are two grandchildren. One
brother preceded her in death. Mrs. Cross worked for 14 years in the
felony circuit court system in Kane County, Ill. She was a member of the
Robertsdale Church of God and enjoyed antiques, crafts, traveling and
the outdoors. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec.
10, at the Robertsdale Church of God with Pastor Donald Simmons
officiating. 

Joseph M. "Bill" Price, 64, of H.C. 62, Box 617, Shade Gap, died Dec. 6,
2000, at his home. His death was unexpected. Born Dec. 12, 1935, in
Shade Gap, he was the son of the late Joseph K. and Ruth (Bard) Price.
He was united in marriage to Joann Knisely, who survives. Mr. Price is
survived by a son, Joe, of Shade Gap and two daughters, Mrs. Robert
(Rene) Appleby of Shade Gap, and Mrs. Jeffrey (Beth) Lerie of Neelyton.
Three brothers, Richard Price, Randy Price, both of Shade Gap, and Gary
Price of Orbisonia, along with six sisters, Glenda Price, Victoria
Price, Susan Willis, all of Shade Gap; Marlene Bowman, Patton; Sandy
Hughes of Smyrna, Tenn., and Jane Rinker of Orbisonia, survive. There
were five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by one sister. Mr. Price was a member of the Fair Ridge
Assembly of God Church in Shade Gap and was a member of the Gideons.
Earlier in life, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was the owner
and operator of the Sunny Ridge Restaurant in Shade Gap until the time
of his death. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec.
9, at the Fair Ridge Assembly of God Church in Shade Gap with the Rev.
Wilson Boyd officiating. Interment will be made at the Fair Ridge
Assembly of God Church Cemetery in Shade Gap. 

George Robert STEWART, 66, of 131 Lincoln Road, Chambersburg, died
Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at 12:58 p.m., at Chambersburg Hospital. Born
Dec. 8, 1933, in Joller, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late
Henry J. and Prella E. (Gurd) Stewart. He was united in marriage to
Helen M. Jones Feb. 19, 1983. Surviving, along with his wife, are a
daughter, Mrs. Mark (Georgella) Frehn of @ Three Springs. Two
step-daughters, Mrs. David (Pamela) Leonard and Mrs, Steven (Cherry)
Stenger, both of Chambersburg, survive. There are two grandchildren,
three step-grandchildren, and one step-great-granddaughter. One sister,
June McElwee of Blanchard, survives. One brother, Jay Stewart, and an
infant brother, who died at birth, preceded him in death. Mr. Stewart
was a 1950 graduate of Robertsdale High School and was employed as a
telephone installer and payroll coordinator by Henkels and McCoy in
York. He retired in 1995. He was a member of the Fairview Evangelical
Church in Three Springs; life member of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post No.
1599, VFW; and Burt J. Asper Post No. 46, American Legion, both of
Chambersburg. During the Korean War, Mr. Stewart served in the U.S.
Navy. He enjoyed hunting. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec.
9, at 2 p.m., at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, with
the Rev. Paul B. Baker officiating. Interment will be private at the
convenience of the family. 

Joseph Franklin DETWILER, 70, of Mesa, Ariz., died Dec. 1, 2000, in
Mesa, Ariz. Mr. Detwiler, a store owner and businessman, was born in
Huntingdon and attended the Huntingdon High School, Mercersburg Academy
and Lafayette College. He is survived by his wife, Barbara and three
children: Cheryl, Suzie and Jeff. There are nine grandchildren and a
sister, Ruthann, surviving. A memorial service will be held in the
spring/summer of 2001 in Huntingdon. Relatives will notify friends of
the time and place. 

John H. KNODE, 81, of 1304 Liberty St., Saxton, died Thursday, Dec. 7,
2000, at 2:40 p.m., at the Altoona Hospital, following a brief illness.
Born May 25, 1919, in Aitch, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary
(Weyer) Knode. He was united in marriage to Margaret Morris in 1941. She
preceded him in death in 1979. He married Mary Pincin May 20, 1986, in
Winchester, Va. Mrs. Knode survives at home, along with two daughters:
Mrs. Edward (Peggy) Ford of Huntingdon and Mrs. Carl (Judy) Calhoun of
Camp Hill. There are three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in
death by a sister, Helen Knode. Mr. Knode was of the Methodist faith. He
retired in 1979, after 22 years of service as a U.S. Postal Service mail
carrier and postal clerk. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 10,
at 2 p.m., at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with the Rev.
Frank Sapp officiating. Interment will be made in the Bethel Cemetery,
Tatesville. 

Robert LYNN, 70, of Three Springs, died at 5:56 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 7,
2000, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born May 19, 1930, in
Orbisonia, he was the son of the late Porter and Gwendolyn (Grove) Lynn.
He was united in marriage to Esther A. Benson, April 1, 1953, in
Winchester, Va. Mrs. Lynn survives at home. Surviving are five children,
Pamela Wagman of South Mountain; Judith Jugan of Illinois;, Robert S.
Lynn of Three Springs; Sherry Sessamen of Jacksonville, N.C.; and Thomas
Lynn of Three Springs. Six grandchildren also survive. Two sisters, Jean
Leonard of Los Angeles, Calif. and Grace Lundy of Santa Rosa, Calif.;
and a brother, William Lynn of Mount Union, survive. Mr. Lynn was of the
Protestant faith. He pretired in 1985 from Letterkenny Army Depot in
Chambersburg after 35 years of service and was a veteran of the Korean
Conflict, serving with the U.S. Navy on the battleship USS Missouri.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 10, at the Martin
R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with the Rev. Charles Rhodes
officiating. Interment will be made in Three Springs Cemetery. 

Blanche D.I. (Cook) PUTT, 88, of Mountain Manor Drive, Saxton, died
Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at 10:30 p.m., at Nason Hospital in Roaring
Spring. Her death was unexpected. Born March 12, 1912, in Dudley, she
was the daughter of the late Phillip and Mary Ann (Leighty) Dolt. She
was united in marriage to George F. Putt Aug. 4, 1934, in Saxton. He
preceded her in death Feb. 23, 1988. Surviving are the following
children: Dean Putt, Eugene Putt Sr. and Ruth Figard, all of Six Mile
Run, R.D.; Shirley Putt of Saxton; and Irene Sprowl of McConnellsburg.
One granddaughter, June Territo, resides with Mrs. Putt in Saxton. There
are 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren. One sister, Frances Dolt of Huntingdon,
survives. Two brothers and five sisters preceded her in death. Mrs. Putt
was a member of the Rehoboth Church of God, Woodbury. She was primarily
a homemaker, but retired from Quality Manufacturing in Saxton in 1992,
after 22 years of service. Funeral services will be held at the
convenience of the family, with the Rev. Chester Horton officiating.
Interment will be made in Fockler Cemetery, Saxton, R.D. 

John Chisolm HORN Sr., 85, of Alexandria, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000,
at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon. Born Jan. 16, 1915, in
New York, he was a son of the late Dr. William M. and Marguerite Jacobs
Horn. On June 22, 1938, he married Solveig Elizabeth Wald, who died Jan.
8, 1979. On Dec. 31, 1996, he married Carol Mills, who survives at home.
A 1932 graduate of Ithaca High School, he received a bachelor of arts
degree in labor economics from Cornell University in 1936. In 1937, he
completed graduate courses in administrative engineering. In 1965, he
received an honorary doctor of laws degree from Susquehanna University,
where he served on the board of trustees from 1952-80 and was chairman
of the board from 1962-79. From 1967-74, he served on the College of
Civil Engineering and College of Engineering Industrial and Professional
Council at Penn State. He worked to transfer the Yale University Bureau
of Traffic Research to Penn State and establish the Traffic Safety
Center at Penn State. He was school board director of the Juniata Valley
and Alexandria School districts from 1950-62. Beginning in 1937, he was
employed by the John R. Wald Co. in Huntingdon. During World War II, he
was in the personnel and public relations department at the company's
munitions plant in Tyrone. In 1938, he was employed by Prismo Safety
Corp. in Huntingdon, holding various positions during the next 31 years,
including the posts of vice president and president and as a member of
the board of directors. He also helped incorporate Wald Industries of
Huntingdon in 1946 and served as president for 18 years and was on the
board of directors for 23 years. He later founded John C. Horn
Associates, a business consulting firm, and Church Management Service
Inc., a consulting firm for pastors, ministers and church lay workers.
He served as promotional director of J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital for
its expansion project in 1947. From 1952-66, he served on the executive
boards of Huntingdon Chamber of Commerce and Huntingdon Business and
Industry Inc. He was also director, secretary and president of United
Way of Huntingdon County Inc. He was active with the Boy Scouts of
America and received numerous awards for his service. Since 1938, he was
a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Huntingdon, serving as choir
director from 1940-76. He served several terms on church council and as
president of the council from 1964-68. He was also a delegate to the
Central Pennsylvania Synod conventions and served on several committees.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, M. Phyllis
Horn of Pittsboro, N.C., and Dorothy T. Horn of Huntingdon; three sons,
John C. Jr. of Longmont, Colo., Eric L. of Henderson, Nev., and Thomas
W. of Boalsburg; a stepdaughter, Marley Dolente of Devon; two stepsons,
William E. Mills III of Greenwich, Conn., and David S. Mills of
Morrisville; a sister, Marguerite Zarger of Erie; two brothers, the Rev.
Henry Eyster of Cambridge, Mass., and Robert T. of Ithaca, N.Y.; nine
grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and 10 step-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by three sons, Robert Gregg on Aug. 20, 1962, Stephen
Lunde on Jan. 4, 1965, and James Melchior on Jan. 8, 1979; a sister; and
three brothers. The funeral will be at noon Monday at the church, with
the Rev. Peter J. Naschke officiating. Burial will be in Alexandria
Presbyterian Cemetery. 

Norman L. "Tex" SOMERS, 82, formerly of Huntingdon and Mount Union, and
a resident of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home since 1996, died at 12:58
a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at the home. He had been in failing health.
Born April 19, 1913, in Indiana, he was the son of the late Charles
Chalmer and Myrtle Adele (Parmalee) Somers. He is survived by a son,
Norman Kit Somers, and a brother, E. Duane Somers of Shippensburg. Three
nephews and one niece also survive. One brother, Ralph Somers, was
killed in action during World War II. Mr. Somers was of the Methodist
faith. A 1933 graduate of Mount Union High School, he served two tours
of duty in Japan, Korea and Germany. During World War II and afterwards,
he served in Germany, Japan, France, England and Korea. He retired from
the U.S. Army in 1969. After his retirement from the military, he was
employed by the Huntingdon County Library and SCI Smithfield for a
number of years. Private funeral services will be held at the Robert D.
Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Grundon
officiating. Interment will be made in the Mount Union Cemetery. 

Elizabeth J. SHANK,81, of Ohesson Manor, formerly of Milroy, died at
12:35 a.m. Friday, Dec 8, 2000, at 0hesson Manor Lewiswwn. Born July
10, 1919, at Eden Hill, Huntingdon County, she was the daughter of the
late Edwin and Margaret (Johnston) Stover. She was united in marriage to
Glen A. Shank, who preceded her in death Sept. 26, 1998. Surviving are
three children: Stephen Shank, Mrs. James R. (Elaine) Neal, and Mrs.
James (Catherine) Peachey, all of Milroy. There are eight grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren. One sister, Eleanor Yocum of Alexandria,
survives. She was preceded in death by two sons, Lynn N. "Shorty" Shank,
Oct. 16, 1983, and Russell E. Shank, Sept. 24, 1984. One sister, Mary
Catherine Showalter, and a brother, John Stover, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Shank was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Chutch, Siglerville. A
1936 graduate of Warriors Mark High School, she enjoyed quilting, sewing
and cooking. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec.
12, at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Siglerville, with Pastor Rosalie N.
Smith officiating. Interment will be made in Salem Cemetery,
Siglerville.

Ralph D. CHILDERS, 57, of Saxton, R.D. 1, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at
Altoona Hospital, following an extended illness. Born Sept. 10, 1943, in
Saxton, he was the son of the the late Samuel William Childers and Ida
Loranie (Aller) Childers who survives. He is survived by three children;
Susan Yerkes of Woodstock, Ill., David Childers of Mount Union and
Daniel Childers of Saxton. A sister, Urma Childers of Hopewell, and
three brothers, Samuel Childers of New Jersey, Melvin Childers of
Hopewell and Terry Childers of Virginia Beach, Va., survive. There are
five grandchildren. Three brothers preceded him in death. Mr. Childers
was a member of the Six Mile Run American Legion, the Saxton Sportsmen's
Association and the local Veterans of Foreign Wars clubs. He was
employed in construction as a laborer and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, at the Curtis
A. Heath Funeral Home in Broad Top, with the Rev. Steve Motter
officiating. Interment will be made at the Yellow Creek Reformed
Cemetery in Hopewell Township. 

Lena Marie KREPPS, 83, of Star City, Ark. and formerly of Huntingdon,
died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at the Jefferson Regional Medical Center in
Pine Bluff, Ark., following a brief illness. Born Feb. 16, 1917, she was
the daughter of the late Harry and Clara (Glenny) Porter. She was united
in marriage, Dec. 29, 1941, in Huntingdon, to Floyd T. Krepps, who died
Dec. 14, 1972. She is survived by two sons and seven daughters: Charles
Robert Fittery of Lawton, Okla.; Charles Theodore Krepps of Baltimore,
Md.; Yvonne Marie Lightner of Kentucky; Eileen Joyce Cagle of Orlando,
Fla.; Betty Jo Stone, Clara Margaret Rightmyer and Sheron Rae Buzz, all
of Baltimore, Md. and Darlene Ethel Krepps and Melinda Sledge, both of
Star City, Ark. There are 25 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and
one great-great grandchild. A sister, Madeline Corbin of Huntingdon also
survives. Mrs. Krepps was preceded in death by two brothers and two
sisters, Robert Porter and Charles Porter, and Gretta Edwards and
Frances Woods. She was of the Methodist faith. She was educated in the
public schools of Huntingdon and was a homemaker. A funeral service will
be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 13, at the John B. Brown Funeral
Home, Inc., Huntingdon, with the Revs. Thomas W. and Verna L. Cahill
officiating. Interment will he made at the Riverview Cemetery
Huntingdon. 

Charles WADIUM, 80, of Lincoln Street, Nanty Glo, died Dec. 9, 2000, at
Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown. Born Jan. 16, 1920, in
Nanty Gio, he was the son of the late Andrew and Marie (Komarnitska)
Wadium. He was united in marriage to Rita M. Dugan, who died in 1996. He
is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Leigh Ann) Bizak of Huntingdon
and a son, Charles T. Wadium of Newville. Three brothers, Stephen Wadium
of Salt Lake City, Utah, Matthew Wadium of LaCrosse, Wisconsin and
Andrew Wadium of Barnesboro survive. There are three granddaughters.
Three sisters preceded him in death. He was a member of St. John Vianney
Catholic Church. Mr. Wadium was a member of Local No. 1382 United Mine
Workers Association, Post 3489 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Post 619
American Legion, all of Nanty Glo. A retired miner for Bethlehem Mine
No. 32 in Nanty Glo, he was a World War II veteran, served in the U.S.
Army's 28th Division 103rd Engineers Company and was the recipient of
the Purple Heart. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday,
Dec. 13, at St. John Vianney Church with the Rev. Paul Robine
officiating. Interment will be made at Holy Ascension Cemetery, Nanty
Glo. 

Glenn H. Brower, 84, of Alexandria, died at 3:50 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10,
2000, at his residence. Born Sept. 10, 1916, in Milroy, he was a son of
the late John Lester and Jennie P. (Miller) Brower. His wife, Violet E.
(Gramley) Brower, whom he married Nov. 16, 1940, survives. Also
surviving are: children, Bruce H. Brower, Hollidaysburg, Mrs. Ron (Jane)
Lysinger, Portage, Mrs. Wayne (Joy) Hall, Alexandria, and Burl E.
Brower, Altanta, Ga.; brothers and sister, James Brower, Palaka, Fla.,
Alma Close, Lewistown, and Richard Brower, San Diego, Calif.; nine
grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was a veteran of World
War II, having served with the United States Navy Sea Bees in the 95th
Battalion. During his life, he owned Glenn H. Brower Coal in Alfarata;
Glenn H. Brower Trucking Inc. in Lewistown; Beaver Creek Farms in Beaver
Springs; and ABC Mack Sales Inc. in Alexandria, Altoona and Milesburg.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lewistown; a
charter member of Navy Sea Bee Reunion, New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; and a
member of the Garden Club of New Smyrna Beach, Fla. He was also
president of Brown Swiss Association of the Pennsylvania chapter and a
member of the Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association, the American
Trucking Association, and the Lewistown Moose Lodge 143. Services will
be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral
Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Charles Fitzgerald
officiating. Interment will be held in Union Cemetery, McClure. 

Charles R. SHAFER Sr., 94, a resident of Woodland Retirement Center,
Orbisonia, formerly of 119 State St., Kistler, Mount Union, where he
lived for 63 years, died at 12:03 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at the
retirement center. Born Feb. 14, 1906, in Saltillo, he was the son of
the late Harvey and Myrtle (Hamilton) Shafer. He was united in marriage
to Olive M. Clark, July 16, 1926. She preceded him in death March 13,
1982. Mr. Shafer is survived by his son, Charles R. Shafer Jr. of Mount
Union, R.R. 3, and a brother, Ira Shafer of California. There are three
grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by
four brothers and one sister. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran
Church in Mount Union and attended the Mount Union schools. Mr. Shafer
was retired from the North American Refractories in Mount Union, where
he worked as a machinist for 43 years. He was an avid hunter and
fisherman and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
Private funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 13, at the
convenience of the family, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount
Union, with Vicar Shelby DePriest officiating. Interment will be made at
the Mount Union Cemetery. 

Clair A. KESTER, 71, of 233 W. Davis St., Mount Union, died at 4 p.m.,
Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at the Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia. He
had been in failing health. Born Dec. 16, 1929, in Mifflintown, he was
the son of Claude and Abbie (Kahley) Kester. He was united in marriage
to Dorothy Zeigler, who preceded him in death. He then wed Beverly Cox
in April 1963, who also preceded him in death. Mr. Kester is survived by
four sons and one daughter; Clair E. Kester of Mount Union, R.D. 1;
Clair G. "Buddy" Kester of Hillsboro, N.J.; Edward J. "Tee" Kester and
Robert G. "Robbie" Kester, both of Mount Union, and Nancy Singer of
Manville, N.J. There are nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren
Five brothers and three sisters: Penrose Kester of Easton; Robert Kester
of HCR 61, Mill Creek; Kenneth Kester of Fort Worth, Texas; Lester
Kester of Huntingdon; Paul Kester of Florida; Linda Hale of Florida;
Ruth Hamman of Lewistown and Sue Guyer of HCR 61, Mill Creek, survive.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Shank, one granddaughter
and four infant brothers and sisters. He was of the Protestant faith.
Mr. Kester retired in 1992, after 25 years of service with New Jersey
Shale and Brick Company, Somerville, N.J. Prior to that, he drove
tractor-trailer for Rickenbacher Trucking, Sullivan Lines and
Transamerica Freight. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday,
Dec. 15, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev.
Rich Morris officiating. Interment will be made at the Mount Union
Cemetery. 

Kenneth A. RHODES, 60, of Coatesville, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at
his residence. Born in Aitch, Huntingdon, in 1940, he was the son of the
late Albert and Mabel (Summers) Rhodes. He was united in marriage to
Thelma E. Himes, who survives. Mr. Rhodes is survived by four sons and
two daughters: Keith A. and George R. Rhodes, both of Coatesville;
Kenneth A. Rhodes of East Fallowfield; Steven T. Sloyer of Honey Brook;
Monnie Shemonski of Sadsburyville and Elizabeth Rhodes of Leola. Also
surviving are three step-sons; Brian Schweitzer, Richard Schweitzer and
Steven Schweitzer, all of Coatesville; and two step-daughters, Sherry
DeHaven of St. Petersburg and Margaret Schweitzer of Coatesville. In
addition, he is survived by two brothers and two sisters, Guy Rhodes of
Huntingdon, Arnold Rhodes of Downingtown, Audrey Gunning of Hesston and
Janet Myers of Pottstown. There were 12 grandchildren and one
great-grandson. Mr. Rhodes was a member of the Coatesville Veterans of
Foreign Wars and the Huntingdon Moose Lodge, and he enjoyed hunting. He
worked as a mechanic and truck driver at Shemonski Contractors, and
formerly worked for Singers Transportation. He retired in 1996.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 15, at the Rays
Cove Cemetery, East Providence. 

Eva B. WIRTH, 91, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, following an illness for
the past two years. She was a resident of Hamilton Arms Nursing Center,
Lancaster for the past two years and lived in Lancaster for most of her
adult life Born in Intercourse, she was the daughter of the late William
B. Jr. and Eva (Weinhold) Bishop. She was the wife of Charles J. Wirth
Sr., who died in 1975. She is survived by a son, Charles J. Wirth Jr. of
Petersburg, R.R.l and a daughter, Olivia A. Richards of Lancaster. Four
sisters, Mary Wirth of Flowertown; Louise Kendig of the Mennonite Home
in Lancaster; Martha Schafer of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Margaret Smith
of Ambler, survive. There are three grandsons, one step-grandson and six
great-grandchildren. Mrs. Wirth was preceded in death by three sisters,
Harriet Herr, Ruth Kilheffer and Zelda Winters and a brother, George D.
Bishop. She was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Lancaster
for 68 years and belonged to the Altar Guild, the Ladies Aid Society and
taught Sunday school. Mrs. Wirth was a homemaker and enjoyed vegetable
gardening, canning, crocheting, watching the Philadelphia Phillies,
crossword puzzles and playing pinochle. She went on trips, attended
banquets and played pinochle with the Better Homes Booster Club 2 in
Lancaster. Mrs. Wirth was reared in Strasburg and graduated from the
former Strasburg High School. Funeral services will be held at 10:30
a.m., Friday, Dec. 15, at the Bachman Funeral Home Inc., 7 South Decatur
St., Stasburg, with the Rev. David D. Krider officiating. Interment will
be made at the Willow Street Mennonite Cemetery, West Lapeter Township. 

Gladys M. BEATTY, 82, of Mapleton Depot RR1, died Tuesday, Dec. 12,
2000, at her home. Born Nov. 10, 1918, in Bellwood, she was a daughter
of the late Jesse and Mary Blanche (Whitesel) Witters. Her husband,
James Scott Beatty, whom she married March 13, 1937, died April 26,
1965. Surviving are: children, William S. "Bill" Beatty, Jonestown RR2,
Beverly A. Boozel, James Creek RR1, Mary A. Boozel, Big Green Briar
Road, McVeytown, and Donna Neely, Maryland; a sister, Nora Railing,
Chambersburg; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by three children, Dorothy Mae Branthafer, Jane E.
Gibson, and Frederick L. Beatty, who was killed in action in Vietnam;
and three sisters, Mary Jane Beatty, Ruth Jury, and Grace Wakefield. She
was a homemaker. She attended the Beech Run Church of the Brethren,
Mapleton RR1. She enjoyed embroidery and volunteered as a helper at the
senior citizens center in the Three Springs area. Services will be held
at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union,
with the Rev. Raymond Hill officiating. Interment will be in Bowman's
Chapel Cemetery, Mapleton RR1. 

John S. CURTI Sr., 80, of Rahway, N.J., died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at
the Rahway Hospital, N.J. Born in Mount Union, he lived in Rahway for
the last 45 years. He is survived by his wife, Florence. Mr. Curti is
survived by one son and one daughter: John S. Jr. and Mrs. Geri
Ascolese. Two sisters, Edith Altobelli and Margaret Ricciardi, survive.
There are six grandchildren. Mr. Curti was a U.S. Army veteran of World
War II. He was employed by Plumbing Trends Inc., in Linden, N.J., for
the last five years. Prior to that, he was a shipping and receiving
clerk for the Elizabeth Plumbing and Heating Supply Co., for 35 years,
before retiring in 1985. A funeral Mass was held Monday, Dec. 11, at St.
Anthony Church in Elizabeth, N.J. 

Cordelia (Grainey) ALDSTADT, 90, of 309 12th St., Huntingdon, died at
3:40 p.m., Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at her residence. Her death was
unexpected. Born April 19, 1910, in Mapleton, she was the daughter of
the late William D. and Exie (Moore) Grainey. She was united in marriage
to George Aldstadt, June 8, 1929 in Mount Union, by the Rev. Robert
Burris. Mr. Aldstadt died Dec. 24, 1994. She is survived by one son,
James D. Aldstadt of Hartville, Ohio. There are four grandchildren and
one great-grandchild. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was
preceded in death by two brothers and one sister: Stella Mae (Grainey)
Watson; Clyde William Grainey and Newton Clair Grainey. Mrs. Aldstadi
was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Huntingdon. She was
a member of the auxiliary to the United Commercial Travelers and served
as a former state officer to the organization. She was a 1927 graduate
of Mount Union High School. Mrs. Aldstadt retired from the JC Penney
Company Inc., after 15 years of service. She was a resident of
Huntingdon County from 1929 until 1992 and had lived at her current
residence since November 1997. Mrs. Aidstadt enjoyed sewing,
needlecrafts and reading. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.,
Saturday, Dec. 16, at the John B. Funeral Home Inc., Huntingdon, with
the Rev. Doyle H. Klinger Jr., officiating. Interment will be made at
the Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Huntingdon. 

George E. ANDERS, 82, of Morris Township, Tyrone, R.D. 1, died Tuesday,
Dec. 12, 2000, at 11:10 p.m., at his Morris Township home. His death was
sudden and unexpected. Born July 24, 1918, at the family home in
Williamsburg, he was the son of the late Roy H. Sr. and Myrtle (Roush)
Anders. Surviving are a son, Steven M. Lane of Williamsburg, along with
two granddaughters. One sister and three brothers survive: Jean A.
Kooken of Tyrone, Thomas Richard Anders, Jack C. Anders and Joseph W.
Anders, all of Alexandria. He was preceded in,death by five brothers and
a sister. Roy H. Anders Jr., John V. Anders, Raymond Anders, James
Anders, Donald Anders and Patricia Logan. Mr. Anders was of the
Protestant faith. He was employed as a mechanic at Owens Corning
Fiberglas in Huntingdon. He retired in 1980, after more than 35 years of
service. He was a member of the Blue Lodge F&AM No. 494, Tyrone;
Williamsport Consistory; VFW Post No. 1754, Huntingdon; and Loyal Order
of the Moose No. 223, also of Huntingdon. A 1936 graduate of Alexandria
High School, he served as a Corporal in the United States Army Air
Corps, stationed with the 410th Army Air Force from Feb. 18, 1942, until
Oct. 23, 1945. He served in the Burma Campaign and was awarded the EAME
Ribbon, APT Bronze Battle Star and the Good Conduct Medal. A lifetime
resident of Huntingdon County, he had lived at his Morris Township
residence for the past 29 years. Private funeral services will be held
at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, Juniata Valley Chapel, 412 Main St.,
Alexandria, with the Rev. John C. Dean officiating. Interment will be
made in the Yellow Springs Cemetery, Williamsburg. 

M. Adaline (Norris) NORRIS, 81, of the Quincy United Methodist Home in
Quincy, formerly of James Creek, R.D. 1, Penn Township, died Tuesday,
Dec. 12, 2000, at the home. She had been in failing health for several
years. Born April 6, 1919, in Penn Township, she was the daughter of the
late Joseph Grubb and Ethel (Isett) Norris. She was united in marriage
to Fred W. Norris, Jan. 1, 1941, in Huntingdon. He died Nov. 20, 1998.
She is survived by two sons; Edwin F. Norris of Greencastle and Gary E.
Norris of Chambersburg. There are five children and seven
great-grandchildren. Three sisters and one brother survive: Winifred
Garner of Hesston; Irene Scott of McConnellstown; Jane Flenner of State
Line and William L. Norris of James Creek. She was preceded in death by
two brothers and one sister: John M. Norris, Joseph G. Norris Jr. and
Dolly Russell. Mrs. Norris was a member of the Community Chapel of
Hesston, Hesston. She was educated in the Penn Township schools. Mrs.
Norris was the co-owner of Norris Grocery in Petersburg. Prior to that,
she was employed with the Arrow Shirt Company, Fouse's Dairy, Baker
Paints and Isett's Music Store. She was a resident of Huntingdon County
for most of her life and lived at her current residence since January
1999. She was very active in her church and family. She was a member of
the Marklesburg Fire Department auxiliary. A funeral service will be
held at the Community Chapel of Hesston, Hesston, at 2 p.m., Saturday,
Dec. 16, with the Rev. James L. Blair officiating. Interment will be
made at the Old Stone Church Cemetery, R.D. 1, James Creek. 

Edward S. JANUSZIEWIVZ, 77, a resident of Aston for the past 37 years,
died Dec. 13, 2000, at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland. Born
Sept. 7, 1923, in Plymouth, he was the son of the late Francis and Mary
Janusziewicz. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Lanning, who
survives, along with three sons and three daughters: Edward Jansen of
Boothwyn; Charles Janusziewicz of Springfield; Jerold Janusziewicz of
Huntingdon; Sharon Todd-Wise, Aston; Catherine Njezic, Media; and
Christine DeMarco, Boothwyn. There are ten grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Chesterina Wisnewski of
New Port Richey, Fla. He was preceded in death by a son, Francis E.
Janusziewicz in 1998. Two sisters and three brothers also preceded in
death: Mary Blazick, Florence Koprowski, Alfred Janusziewicz, Joseph
Janusziewicz and Francis Janusziewicz. Mr. Janusziewicz was reared and
educated in Hunlock Creek. He was employed by the Scott Paper Co. for 33
years, retiring in 1984. Prior to that, he worked for
Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton Locomotive, Eddystone, Sun Shipbuilding and Dry
Dock Co., and Glen Alden Coal Mines. A veteran of World War II, Mr.
Janusziewicz served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division, receiving
the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle
Eastern Campaign Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Janusziewicz
was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Aston. He was a
member of the American Legion Post No. 926, Aston; Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post No. 1521, Chester; Green Ridge Recreation Club, Aston; and
Green Ridge Gun and Rod Club, Aston. A funeral Mass will be held at
11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Concord
Road, Aston. Interment will be made in the Glenwood Memorial Gardens,
Marple township. 

Richard J. HAMMAN Sr., 86, of Mount Union, R.D. 1, died at 7:20 p.m.
Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at the Huntingdon Manor, Huntingdon. He had
been in failing health. Born Oct. 16, 1914, in Hill Valley, Shirley
Township, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late Harry and Effie
M. (Dell) Hamman. He was united in marriage to Daisy Thomas Sept. 12,
1940. Mrs. Hamman survives at home. He is survived by three sons and two
daughters: Richard J. Hamman and Charles L. Hamman, both of Mount Union,
R.D. 1; George C. Hamman of Mapleton, R. D. 1, Hilda R. Hamman of
Altoona and Linda A. Port of Huntingdon. There are 11 grandchildren and
16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter,
Ethel Hamman; one grandson and a brother, Chester Hamman. Mr. Hamman was
of the Methodist faith. He was a self-employed carpenter his entire
life. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at the
Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Connie Maclay
officiating. Interment will be made at the Haven Rest Memorial Park,
Shirleysburg, R.D. 1. 

Minnie Jane ZIMMERMAN, 54, of Spruce Creek, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000,
at Centre Community Hospital, State College, following an extended
illness. Born Nov. 5, 1946, in Philipsburg, she was a daughter of Ida
Mae Gill Young of Lajose and the late Clayton "Pete" Young. On Dec. 17,
1970, in Winchester, Va., she married George D. Zimmerman, who survives
at home. She was a graduate of Harmony High School in Clearfield County
and a graduate of the Pennsylvania Business Institute with an associate
degree in business. She was employed in human resources in the Penn
State development office. She was a member of Lower Spruce Creek
Presbyterian Church. She was an EMT with Juniata Valley Ambulance. In
addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Lisa Minter of
Springfield, Ohio; three sons, Brian Zimmerman of Philipsburg, D. Scott
Zimmerman of Spruce Creek and Don Braxton of Columbus, Ohio; two
brothers, Eldon Young and Roger Young, both of Lajose; and 11
grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the
Cuthright-Speck Funeral Home, Alexandria, with the Rev. Bruce K. Boyles
officiating. Burial will be in Franklinville Cemetery, Spruce Creek.

Virginia A. Gensimore DAVIS, 88, formerly of rural Petersburg, died
Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at Woodland Retirement Center in Orbisonia. Born
Dec. 16, 1911, in Eden Valley, Warriors Mark Township, Huntingdon
County, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Margaret Dixon
Gensimore. On March 3, 1928, she married E. Earl Davis, who died Dec. 1,
1971. She was a lifelong homemaker. A member of Petersburg-Bethel
Presbyterian Church in rural Petersburg, she had been a Sunday school
teacher and a member and past president of Ladies Aid Society of the
church. She was a member and past president of Shaver's Creek Fire
Company Auxiliary and a 25-year member of Shaver's Creek Grange 353 and
Pomona Grange. She had been named outstanding citizen by the Shaver's
Creek Fire Company and later by the Grange. She received the Easter
Seals Brace for an Ace Award as an outstanding volunteer. She was also a
member of J.C. Blair Hospital Auxiliary, Presbyterian Home Auxiliary,
District Three Sunday School Officers and was a founding member of the
Shaver's Creek Burial Association. She is survived by two daughters,
Margaret E. McGargle and Mary Ann Metz, both of rural Petersburg; two
sons, Elmer E. and James H., both of rural Petersburg; 12 grandchildren;
11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Two sisters
and four brothers preceded her in death. She was the last surviving
member of her immediate family. Burial will be in Mooresville Cemetery,
rural Petersburg. 

Caroline Clara ROCKEY, 93, a resident of University Park Nursing Center
in State College, formerly of Petersburg, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at
the center. Born Oct. 16, 1907, in Petersburg, she was a daughter of the
late Alvin and Ora Scott Sprankle. On July 6, 1938, in Petersburg, she
married Willard Grove Rockey, who died June 18, 1985. She was a 1926
graduate of Petersburg Vocational High School. She was a homemaker and
enjoyed crocheting, cooking and reading the Bible. She was an active
member of Zion Lutheran Church, a member of the Petersburg Fire Company
Auxiliary and a Juniata Valley Band Booster for several years. She is
survived by two daughters, Judith May Hickes and Sherry Cathryn Sharum,
both of Petersburg; two stepdaughters, Pauline Craver of Orlando, Fla.,
and Geraldine Musser of Columbia, Md.; two granddaughters; and several
nieces and nephews. A son, Willard Grove Rockey Jr. in 1942, two sisters
and two brothers preceded her in death. Burial will be in Cedar Grove
Cemetery, Petersburg. 

Robert Leroy JOSEPH Sr., 75, of Spring Street, Mapleton Depot, died
unexpectedly at his home at 11:25 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2000. Mr. Joseph
was born July 7, 1925, in Girardville, Schuylkill County, the son of the
late Dominic and Anna M. (Niman) Joseph. He was formerly married to
Deborah Joseph Garcia, who resides in Sparta, N.C. Surviving relatives
include one daughter, Jackie Sanchez, Yadkinville, N.C.; three sons:
Robert L. Joseph Jr., Sparta, N.C.; Randy L. Joseph and Paul A. Joseph,
both of Mapleton. He was preceded in death by a son, Roger Joseph. Also
surviving are 10 grandchildren and one brother, Paul F. Joseph of
McVeytown. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Rosie Ruby, Ethel
Johnson and Gladys Lockett. Mr. Joseph enjoyed hunting and fishing. He
was of the Protestant faith. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.
Tuesday, Dec. 19, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with
the Rev. Ed Seeley officiating. Interment will be in Bowman's Chapel
Cemetery, Mapleton, R.D. 1. 

George Franklin BUMBARGER, 82, of Walker Township, Huntingdon, R.D. 3,
Box 64, died at 5:50 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at his home, following
an extended illness. Born Feb. 1, 1918 in New Liberty, he was the son of
the late William H. and Lottie (Hutchins) Bumbarger. He was united in
marriage to Peggy J. Allison Dec. 30, 1964, in Huntingdon. Mrs.
Bumbarger survives at home. He is survived by two daughters and a son,
Mrs. Duane (Tammy) Dysard and George Bumbarger Jr., both of Huntingdon,
and Mrs. Darwin (Carol) Miles of Julian. Also surviving are two stepsons
and two stepdaughters: James Bennett and Donald Bennett Jr., both of
Huntingdon, and Mrs. Kim (Bonnie) Entrekin of Entriken and Mrs. Jeff
(Jo) Shawver of Huntingdon. He is survived by a brother, Ben Bumbarger
of Warren and a sister, Miriam LaRosa of Harveysville. There are eight
grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, eight step- grandchildren and
six stepgreat- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three
brothers. Mr. Bumbarger was of the Protestant faith. He was educated in
the Philipsburg public schools. He had resided in Huntingdon since
moving from Philipsburg in 1948. The funeral services will be private. 

Ronald B. HARSHBARGER, 54, of SR 103 S., Ryde, died at 12:55 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at his home. Born Aug. 15, 1946, in Lewistown,
he was a son of the late Bruce D. and Esther E. (Moist) Harshbarger. His
wife, Donna K. (Parsons) Harshbarger, whom he married July 1, 1967,
survives. Also surviving are: three daughters, Mrs. Fred (Tammy) Jury
and Mrs. Kenny (Bonnie) Knable, both of Newton Hamilton, and Mrs. Danny
(Patricia) Snyder, Mifflintown; three granddaughters and three
grandsons. He was a 1964 graduate of Captain Jack High School, Mount
Union. He was a group leader at Marlette Homes, Lewistown, from 1964 to
1980 and was currently employed in the HPC Assembly Department of FCI
Electronics, Mount Union. He was a member of the Ryde United Methodist
Church; the McVeytown Lodge 376 F&AM; the Valley of Harrisburg
Consistory; and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forest 88, Mifflintown. He
was a former member of the Newton-Wayne Lions Club and both the
Newton-Wayne and Mapleton Sportsmen's Clubs. He was an avid fisherman
and enjoyed hunting at the Big Rock Annex Hunting Camp, Ryde. Services
will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 S.
Market St., McVeytown, with Pastor Phyllis Hunter officiating. Interment
will be in Ryde Cemetery. 

Jeanine G. (Albert) KYPER, of Huntingdon, R.D. 2, died Sunday, Dec. 17,
2000, at 3:05 p.m. at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. She
was 59 years old. Mrs. Kyper was born in Centre County Jan. 18, 1941,
the daughter of Ray and Violette Pearl (Knepp) Albert. She was inarried
to James H. Kyper Sept. 2, 1976, at the Mifflin County Courthouse by
District Justice William Foster. Her husband survives at their farm in
Oneida Township. She is survived by her father of Wallaceton. She was
preceded in death by her mother Aug. 5, 2000. Also surviving are a son
and a daughter, Edward B. Mason, Huntingdon, and Susan M. (Mason) Rhone,
also of Huntingdon; two step-sons and one step-daughter. James H. Kyper
Jr., Huntingdon; Glenn A. Kyper, Huntingdon, R.D. 2; and Nancy D. Green
of Huntingdon; three grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren. One
brother, Gerald Albert, of Clearfield, and one sister, Judith Wallace,
Clearfield, also survive. Mrs. Kyper was a member of the Donation United
Methodist Church and a Children's Sunday School teacher. She was
educated in the public schools of Philipsburg and was a graduate of
Philipsburg High School. She had worked for Huntingdon County in the
Huntingdon District Magistrate's Office from 1970 until 1997. Before
retiring she was the office manager while her husband served as district
magistrate. From 1995 until now, she was an Oneida Township Auditor.
Mrs. Kyper had been a resident of Huntingdon County since 1964. She
loved flower gardening, crosswords and cooking, and the company of her
family and friends. All enjoyed the warmth of her country kitchen and
shared her enjoyment of caring for deer and other animals. A funeral
service will be held at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington
St., Huntingdon Wednesday, Dec. 20, at 11 a.m. The Rev. David Dearing
will officiate. Interment will be in the Donation Cemetery, Huntingdon,
R.D. 2. 

Thelma K. PRICE, 83, of Rockhill Furnace, died at 7:45 a.m. Monday, Dec.
18, 2000, at her home. Born Jan. 14, 1917, in Mount Union, she was the
daughter of the late Samuel R. and Minerva J. (Grove) Norris. She was
united in marriage to John A. Price May 9, 1936, in McVeytown. Mr. Price
preceded her in death Oct. 28, 1994. She is survived by two daughters
and three sons: Nancy Norton of Rockhill Furnace, Naomi Walls of
Annville, John A. Price Jr. of Rahway, N.J., Lester Price of Palmyra and
Dennis Price of Hershey. Also surviving is a sister, Mary Price of
Shirleysburg, R.D., and two brothers, Samuel Norris of Shippensburg and
Mason,Grove of the state of Indiana, who was also reared in the Norris
home. There are 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Warren
and two brothers, Coyle Norris and Herman Norris and three
grandchildren. Mrs. Price was a member of the Sugar Run Church of the
Brethren, Mount Union, R.D. She was a homemaker, helped on the family
farm and was employed as a cook at the Shirley Home for the Aged for 12
years. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday,, Dec. 20, at
the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with Pastor James Hullihen
officiating. Interment will be made at Bowman's Chapel Cemetery,

Cameron Alexander WISSINGER died at birth Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at J.C.
Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. He was the son of Samuel Everett
Wissinger and Mary Lu Shaffer, both of 5 Pinewood Acres, Mount Union,
R.D. 1 Cameron James is survived by maternal grandparents, Jules and
Esther Shaffer of Mount Union, R.D. 2 and paternal grandmother, Mrs.
Samuel (Sarah) Wissinger of Smithfield, Huntingdon. Also surviving is a
twin brother, Brendan Garrett Wissinger, at home; a half-brother, Lonnie
Wissinger of Mount Union and a half-sister, Krista Fischer of
Pittsburgh. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22,
2000, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev.
Peter Naschke officiating. Interment will be made in the Mount Union
Cemetery, Mount Union. 

Catherine Mae Decker, 57, of 1263 Pennsylvania Ave., Tyrone, died
Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at her home. Born Feb. 12, 1943, in Huntingdon,
she was the daughter of the late Howard Milton and Margaret May (Weyer)
Zimmerman. Her husband, Charles L. Keith, survives at home. She is
survived by two daughters and a son, Susan Decker of Tyrone, Lori
Culbertson of Huntingdon and Rick Zimmerman of Bellwood. There are eight
grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Joe Zimmerman of Tyrone
and Robert Zimmerman of Huntingdon. She was preceded in death by two
brothers and a sister. Mrs. Decker was a member of the Lower Spruce
Creek Presbyterian Church. She was employed as a home health aide for
the Home Nursing Agency for six years. Previously, she was employed at
the Big Yank Corporation in Tyrone for 18 years. She was also a member
of the Hookies Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Funeral services will be
held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, at the Feller Memorial Home, Tyrone.
Interment will be made at the Franklinville Cemetery, Spruce Creek. 

Harold T. BAIR, 83, a resident of Huntingdon Manor, Huntingdon, formerly
of Morgan Street, Mount Union, died at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20,
2000, at the manor. Born July 31, 1917, in Mifflin County, he was the
son of the late Daniel McKenley and Martha Evelyn (Rosensteel) Bair. His
wife, Clarabelle (Brouse) Bair, whom he married in 1940 in Juniata, died
Nov. 27, 1983. Surviving are: children, Harold E. Bair and James D.
Bair, both of McVeytown RR1 and Sally A. Clark, Mount Union; 15
grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a
brother, Max Bair. He retired in 1979 after 40 years of service as a
trackman with the Pennsylvania Railroad. He attended the St. Peter and
St. Paul Orthodox Church, Mount Union. He was a lifetime member of the
Mill Creek firehall and a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose,
Lodge 220, Huntingdon. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the
Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Father Stephen
Kundla officiating. Interment will be in Mount Union Cemetery. 

Margaret E. ZUMBRUM, 87, of Glenrock and formerly of Saxton, died
Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at York Hospital. She was united in marriage to
Edward H. Zumbrum. Mr. Zumbrum preceded her in death Sept. 23, 1986.
Born in Saxton, Bedford County, she was the daughter of the late Jacob
E. and Mabel I. (Crum) Rinard. She is survived by a sister, Louise
Cutshall of Duquesne and a brother, Harry Rinard of Saxton. Also
surviving is a stepdaughter, Starlet Noel of Florida, and three
stepsons, Gale and Eugene Zumbrum, both of Hanover, and Sheldon Zumbrum
of Ohio. There are seven stepgrandchildren. She was a member of the
American Association of Retired Persons in New Freedom. Mrs. Zumbrum was
employed for 30 years with Owens Corning Fiberglas Corp. in Huntingdon.
She later worked part time for the Hanover Visiting Nurse Agsociation.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at the Wetzel
Funeral Home, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, with the Rev. Curtis E. Whitman
of St. Jacob's United Church of Christ, York New Salem, officiating.
Interment will be made in the Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover. 

Shawn M. ASHMAN, 27, of Lancaster Street, Harrisburg, died Wednesday,
Dec. 20, 2000, at his home. Born July 18, 1973, in Huntingdon, he was
the son of Richard L. and Darlene K. (Doyle) Ashman. Mr. and. Mrs.
Ashman survive at their Loysville home. He is survived by a brother,
Rodney L. Ashman, and a sister, Mandy L. Decker, both of Loysville. He
is also survived by his paternal grandparents, Richard L. and Madaline
G. (Noble) Ashman of Orbisonia. Mr. Ashman was a 1992 graduate of West
Perry High School. He was employed as a clerk for the Pennsylvania
Department of Revenue, Harrisburg, and was a member of the Sons of the
Amerean Legion Post No. 518, Orbisonia. A memorial service will be held
at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, at the Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, with
the Rev. Roz Mason officiating. 

Thelma E. HOLMES, 87, of 528 19th St., Tyrone, died Dec. 20, 2000, at
Tyrone Hospital. Born Nov. 30, 1913, in Tyrone, she was the daughter of
the late George W. and Mary V. (Ray) Albright. She was united in
marriage to Alfred C. Holmes Jan. 16, 1935, in Rockton. Mr. Holmes
preceded her in death July 1970. She is survived by two brothers, Carl
L. Albright of Martinsburg and Merle D. Albright of Tyrone. There are
several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers,
Calvin and George M. Albright. Mrs. Holmes was a lifetime member of the
Tyrone Church of the Brethren. She had taught Sunday school, played the
piano and was on the flower committee of the church. Mrs. Holmes was a
member of Foster Grandparents and Senior Companions. She was employed as
a nurses' aide at Moran's Nursing Home in Bellwood. Funeral services
will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, at the Tyrone Church of the
Brethren with Pastor George Baker officiating. Interment will be made in
the Bald Eagle Cemetery. 

Thelma I. SHADE, 63, of 141 S. Pine Road, Lewistown, died at 3:23 a.m.
Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital. Born May 2, 1937, in
Oliver Township, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Lorma E.
(Fry) Harshbarger. Her husband, John A. Shade, died April 26, 1999.
Surviving are: children, Mrs. David (Sharon) Beaver, Mount Union, Mrs.
Henry (Rebecca) Ritter, Rachel Harkleroad, and Joe Shade, all of
Lewistown; sisters and brother, Mrs. James (Madeline) Moist, Tyrone,
Florence Boozel, Newton Hamilton, Mrs. Dale (Hannah June) Rhodes,
Lewistown, Mrs. Fred (Marcella) Colyer, McAlisterville, and John J.
Harshbarger, Riverdale, Calif.; and three grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by a sister, Audrey Jean Grassmyer and a brother,
Percy E. Harshbarger. She was a member of the Vira Methodist Church and
the Women of the Moose Lodge 143, Lewistown. Services will be held at
10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown,
with the Rev. John Walters officiating. Interment will be in Juniata
Memorial Park. 

Noah Ray BEATTY, 25 Wayne Street, Cedar Crest, Mount Union, died at
birth Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital,
Huntingdon. He was the son of Donald L. and Barbara (Frick) Beatty of
Cedar Crest, Mount Union. He is survived by his grandparents, Barbara
Gill of Cedar Crest, Mount Union; William Frick of Thompsontown and
Donald and Robin Beatty of Ragtime, S.C. Also surviving are his
great-grandmother Barbara Baker of East Waterford and his
great-great-grandmother Winifred Miller of Cedar Crest, Mount Union. He
was preceded in death by his grandfather, Joseph Gill, and his
grandmother, Linda Beatty. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m.,
Saturday, Dec. 23, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union,
with the Rev. Marvin Cole officiating. Interment will be made at the
Riverview Cemetery in Huntingdon. 

Isabel M. SHOOP, 72, formerly of Burnt Cabins, died at 6:40 p.m.
Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Failing Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation
Center, Chambersburg. Born Jan. 3, 1928, in Orbisonia, she was the
daughter of the late Banks and Ethel (Smittle) Bolinger. She is survived
by two daughters, Sandra Banks of Orbisonia and Lafern Butler of
Lexington Park, Md.; a son, Paul Shoop of Burnt Cabins; two
stepdaughters, Bridgitte Marchant of Lewisberry and Melanie Butsko of
Harrisburg; and a stepson, Johnny Adams of Vicksburg, Miss., and a brother, Boyd Bolinger. 
There are three grandchildren.  
She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy McMullen and a stepson, Tom Adams,
Mrs. Shoop was a member of the Burnt Cabins Independent Bible Church. 
She was a deaconess in the church and a member of the Shade Gap Farm Women. 
Mrs. Shoop was a 1945 graduate of Orbisonia High School and during her life was a 
homemaker and also employed by Greif Brothers Manufacturing, Mount Union. 
Funeral services will be held at 2,30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, at the Martin R. Brown 
Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with Pastor Bob Benson officiating. 
Internment will be made at the Orbisonia Cemetery. 

Blaine Emmert BROWN, 62, North Clear Ridge Road, Hustontown, died at
6:15 a.m., Friday, Dec. 22, 12000, at the Fulton County Medical Center,
McConnellsburg. Born July 10, 1938, in Chambersburg, he was the son of
Reuben and Gladys (Diehl) Brown, currently of Hustontown. He was united
in marriage to Mary E. Cutchall on Oct. 13, 1956. His wife survives at
home. He is also survived by his parents, along with a son, Edwin Brown
of Hustontown, and a daughter, Michele McCulloch of Wells Tannery. Two
sisters, Patricia Knepper and Betty McClain, both of McConnellsburg,
also survive. He was preceded in death by a son, Scott Brown. Mr. Brown
was of the Protestant faith. He served as a Taylor Townsbip supervisor
and roadmaster and was also self-employed as a farmer and logger. He was
also a construction worker. A private funeral service will be held
Saturday, Dec. 23, at the M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, with
Pastor Brian Sweeney officiating. Interment will be made at the Clear
Ridge Cemetery, North Clear Ridge Road, Hustontown.

Patricia A. DUGUAY, 64, of HCR 61, Mill Creek, died at 12:15 a.m.
Saturday, Dec., 23, 2000, at the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital,
Huntingdon. She had been in failing health. Born Aug. 2, 1936, in
Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late Nathan H. Sr. and Dorothy
M. (Williams) Harkleroad. She was united in marriage to Vincent E.
Duguay Dec. 24, 1958. Mr. Duguay preceded her in death in January 1996.
She is survived by two daughters and three sons: Cathy Creehan of
Unityville, Lisa R. Duguay of McVeytown, R.D. 1, Steven E. Duguay of HCR
61, Mill Creek, David E. Duguay of Shirleysburg and Michael E. Duguay of
Mill Creek. There are 11 grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren. Also
surviving are four brothers and two sisters: John N., Blair L. and Glenn
T. Harkleroad, all of Mapleton, R.D. 1; Sharon Suter of Mount Union,
R.D. 2 and Jean Price of Huntingdon R.D. 1. Mrs. Duguay was of the
Protestant faith. She was a former member of the Mill Creek Fire
Company. She had a great love for animals and was a volunteer for the
Huntingdon County Humane Society. She was a graduate of the Mount Union
High School. Mrs. Duguay was employed. for several years at US Sports in
Huntingdon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27,
at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev.
Georgianna Cole and the Rev. Georgetta Hartley officiating. Interment
will be made at the Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg, R.D. 1. 

Ethel H. LEONARD, 89, of HCR 60, Orbisonia, died Sunday morning Dec. 24,
2000, at her home in Blacklog Valley. Born Feb. 23, 1911, in Jacobs, she
was the daughter of the late Theodore and Maude (Booher) Drake. She was
united in marriage to Harry S. Leonard Jan. 24, 1931, in McConnellsburg.
Mr. Leonard preceded her in death June 10, 1994. She is survived by four
daughters and one son: Mrs. Robert (Betty) Konselia of Portland, Ore.,
Mrs. Russel (Shirley) Pollock of Shirleysburg, R.D., Mrs. John (N.
Marie) Bay of Lewistown, and Mrs. Dean (Linda) Morgan and Fred D.
Leonard, both of Rockhill Furnace. There are 13 grandchildren and 28
great-grandchildren. A daughter, Margaret Ann, preceded her in death.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having, been
preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Mrs. Leonard was a
member of the Rockhill Church of the Brethren, Rockhill Furnace, where
she was a deaconess, Sunday School teacher, and a choir member. She was
a member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, the Southern
Huntingdon County Farm Women, The Golden Agers and the Birthday Club.
Earlier in life, she had worked at Greif Manufacturing, Mount Union.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at the
Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with Pastor Len Smith

Betty Ruth Masood, 71, of Sixth Street Extension, Saxton, died Friday,
Dec. 22, 2000, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital. Born Aug. 17, 1929, in
Six Mile Run, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Pearl Fox. She
was reared in the home of Maude Shuke. She was united in marriage to
Allie N. Masood Sr. Sept. 11, 1950, in Winchester, Va. Mr. Masood
preceded her in death Sept. 6, 1977. She is survived by a daughter,
Pamela Bulger, and a son, Allie N. Masood Jr., both of Saxton. There are
five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Also surviving is a
brother, Jack Fox of Dallas. Two sisters and two brothers preceded her
in death. Mrs. Masood was a member of the Saxton United Methodist
Church. She enjoyed watching various sports on television and spending
time with her grandchildren. She was a graduate of the Saxton-Liberty
High School. Mrs. Masood, along with her husband, owned and operated the
Saxton IGA Foodliner for several years. Funeral services will be held at
2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at the Saxton United Methodist Church, 903
Church St., Saxton, with Pastor Todd Templeton officiating. Interment
will be made in the Grandview Cemetery, Saxton. 

Anna Larue (Kreps) WESTBROOK, 86, of Meadowview Manor Retirement Center,
McVeytown, and formerly of 511 Penn St., Huntingdon, died at 1:53 a.m.
Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon,
following an extended illness. Born Feb. 22, 1914, in Bellefonte, she
was the daughter of the late William Edward and Amelia Rebecca (Faust)
Kreps. She was united in marriage to F. Glenn Westbrook in 1979 at the
Presbyterian Church, Tyrone. Mr. Westbrook preceded her in death Aug.
10, 1997. She is survived by a stepson, F. Stanley Westbrook of Kistler,
Mount Union. There are two grandchildren. Two sisters, Phyllis Kreps and
Maxine (Kreps) Ernest, preceded her in death. Mrs. Westbrook attended
the Presbyterian Church, Huntingdon. She was educated in the public
schools of Tyrone and graduated in the class of 1932. She was the former
co-owner of The Wing Shop in Tyrone for more than 20 years. She had been
a resident of Huntingdon County since 1979 and enjoyed traveling.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at the John
B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, with the Rev.
Leslie R.F. Papp officiating. Interment will be made in the Riverview
Cemetery, Huntingdon. 

William F. WILSON Sr., 74, Johnstown, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at
Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Born July 23, 1926, in
Mineral Point, he was the son of the late David B. and Letty E.
(Bittorf) Wilson. He was married to the former Ruth Stoddard, who
preceded him in death Jan. 22, 1986. Surviving are the following
children: W. Fred Wilson, Jennerstown; ,Mrs. Carol Faye Shank,
Greenville; Jeffrey D. Wilson, Glendale, Ariz., Mark S. Wilson,
Stafford, Va.; Mrs. Jamie Ann Tomlinson, Savannah, Ga. and Mrs. Lisa
Beth Weigel, Southmont. Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Doris
Schock, Huntingdon; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was
preceded in death by one grandson. Mr. Wilson was member of the Ferndale
United Methodist Church. A well-known television sportscaster, Mr.
Wilson was sports director for WJAC-TV, Johnstown, for 35 years and was
inducted into the Cambria County Sports Hall of Fame in 1990. He was a
veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II, and was a 1949
graduate of Juniata College. Mr. Wilson was also an accomplished
vocalist and in 1962, he and his orchestra were the featured
entertainment for the 13th Annual Charity Ball, sponsored by the Women's
Auxiliary to the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital. In 1989, Mr. Wilson was
also honorary chairman of the third annual Big Brothers-Big Sisters of
Huntingdon County Golf Tournament. Funeral services will be held at 11
a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at the John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215
Central Ave., Johnstown, with the Rev. Denton Lester officiating.
Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown. 

Joseph Charles DUVALL, 47, of 191 Loquat Lane, Port One, Fla., died at
2:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at the Ormond Beach Hospital, Ormond
Beach, Fla. His death was unexpected. Born Feb. 27, 1953, in Shirley
Township, Huntingdon County, he was the son of Lee and Florence Lorraine
(Foor) Duvall His mother survives at her home in Mount Union. He is also
survived by his companion with whom he resided, Louann Speare. His
grandmother, Margaret Carper of Tennessee, also survives. He is survived
by a daughter, Crystal D. Duvall and three sons, Richard L. "Rusty"
Duvall, all of Mount Union, R.D. I and Joseph "Joey" and Thomas "Tommy"
Duvall, both of Allensville. There is one grandson. He is also survived
by five sisters and two, brothers; Mary Laird and Peg Duvall, both of
Huntingdon; Julia Lemin of Mount Union; Doris Bowers of Daytona Beach,
Fla., Gladys Darlene Brown of Breezewood, Bill Duvall of Shade Gap and
Mike Duvall of Greencastle. There are a number of nieces and nephews. He
was preceded in death by a sister, Susan Haggle. Mr. Duvall was of the
Pentecostal faith. He was formerly employed by Bleyer Industry Inc.,
Mount Union. Mr. Duvall served in the U.S. Marine Corps. A memorial
service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at the Sugar Run
Church of the Brethren, Mount Union, R.D. 1, with the Rev. James
Hullihen and the Rev. Gordon Ross officiating. The Robert D. Heath
Funeral Home, Mount Union, is in charge of the arrangements. 

Archie William HARPSTER, 86, of Huntingdon RR2, died at 6:15 p.m.
Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Ohesson Manor, Lewistown. Born Sept. 13,
1914, in Burnham, he was the son of the late Walter H. and Lucy (Thomas)
Harpster. His wife, Florence (Wilson) Harpster, whom he married July 8,
1939, survives. Also surviving are: a son, Walter L. Harpster, 4822 Old
Stage Road, McClure; sisters and brothers, Marian Treaster and Glen
Harpster, both of Lewistown, Esther Wheeler, Camp Hill, and Thomas
Harpster, Burnham; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He
was preceded in death by a brother, Max Harpster. He was an assistant
sales manager at Standard Steel, retiring in 1974 with 43 years of
service. He was a member of Park View Church of the Brethren; a former
scout master of Troop 8, Burnham; member and past president of the
McAlevy's Fort Civic Club. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at
the Park View Church of the Brethren, Parcheytown Road, Lewistown, with
the Rev. Kenneth Wagner and the Rev. Ralph Wilson officiating. Interment
will be in Birch Hill Cemetery. 

Paul Francis LaPORTE, 84, of Alexandria died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at
home. Born Oct. 31, 1916, in Gallitzin, he was a son of the late Elmer
G. and Ellen MacGowan LaPorte. On June 27, 1942, in Petersburg, he
married Sara Kocher, who died Nov. 28, 1999. He worked the family farm,
Fair Acres Farm in Porter Township, along with his father after
graduating in 1933 from the Petersburg Vocational High School. In 1951
he acquired the farm from his father and farmed the land until 1964. In
1964 he became a mailman at Penn State. He retired in 1982 and continued
the daily maintenance at the family farm. He was a member of Most Holy
Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Huntingdon. He was an avid golfer and
enjoyed traveling. He is survived by two daughters, Sara A. LaPorte of
New Hope and Harriet L. LaPorte of Alexandria; two sons, Paul F. Jr. of
Las Cruces, N.M., and Jonathon G. of Columbia, S.C.; a sister, Elizabeth
Conrad of Altoona; and five grandchildren. Two sisters and a brother
preceded him in death. Private funeral services will be held at the
convenience of the family. 

Bernice C. WILSON, 84, of Huntingdon RR2, (McAlevys Fort), died at 1:15
p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at J. C. Blair Hospital. Born March 22,
1916, in South Fork, she was the daughter of the late Samuel A. and Anna
P. (Craig) Bracken. Her husband, Theodore L. Wilson, whom she married
Nov. 28, 1934, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Samuel
(Betty Ann) Bagshaw, Huntingdon RR2, Mary Joyce Joll, Munhall, Gary Lee
Wilson, Petersburg RR1; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Galen L. Wilson, on Feb. 22, 1977;
two sisters and three brothers, Mary Boyer, Iola Varner, Earl Bracken,
John Bracken and Millard Bracken. She was a homemaker. She was a member
of St. Stephens Lutheran Church, McAlevy's Fort. Services will be held
at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at the Donald E. Baggus Funeral Home, 3813 W.
Main St., Belleville, with J. Daniel Morris officiating. Interment will
be in St. Stephens Lutheran Cemetery. 

Dorothy Hess LONG, 84, of the Mennonite Home, Lancaster, and formerly of
456 Bainbridge St., Elizabethtown, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, after a
long illness. Born in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late John
C. and Martha (Speck) Hess. She was united in marriage to Wendell J.
Long June 18, 1942. Mr. Long died in 1989. She is survived by two
daughters, Mrs. Timothy (Susan Jean) Litthe of Pittsburgh and Mrs. Eric
(Nancy Ellen) Pippart of Lancaster. Also surviving are two sisters,
Virginia Evelyn Kelly and Mrs. John (Arlene E.) Evans, both of
Huntingdon and a brother, Lester M. Hess of Hendersonville, N.C. Mrs.
Long was a member of the Christ Church United Church of Christ,
Elizabethtown, where she was a member of the chancel choir and women's
fellowship. She also filled in as a secretary when needed. She enjoyed
gardening, reading and nature. She was a 1934 graduate of Huntingdon
High School. Mrs. Long worked as a secretary at Swigart Associates,
Huntingdon, prior to her marriage. In her later years, she volunteered
at the Elizabethtown Public Library. Interment was made at an
Elizabethtown cemetery, Dec. 27. 

Ricardo Percival "Rico" LEWIS Jr., 13, of 830 Washington Ave.,
Hagerstown, Md., died at 7:26 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at the
Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, Md. His death was unexpected.
Born March 16, 1987, in State College, Centre County, he was the son of
Ricardo P. Lewis Sr. of Washington D.C. and Coreen (Trice) Lewis of
Hagerstown, Md. Surviving, along with his parents, are two sisters,
Felicia D. Trice and Maela L. Lewis, both of Hagerstown, Md., and a
brother, Robo Vaughn of Mount Union. Also surviving are his
grandparents, Eula Mae Trice of Mount Union, Martha Bernard of Colon,
Panama, and Elsa Lewis of Wilingboro, N. J. There are a number of aunts,
uncles, cousins and one nephew. He was preceded in death by an infant
sister, Jessica Mae Trice, and his grandfathers, John Jefferson Trice
and Percival Lewis. Ricardo was a member of the Gateway Ministry Church,
Williamsport, Md. He was a member of Challenger Bowling, Hagerstown,
Md.; the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People,
Huntingdon County Chapter and a member of the Mount Union Drill Team. He
participated in the Special Olympics. Ricardo was currently enrolled in
the eighth grade at Western Heights Middle School, Hagerstown, Md. He
was an avid fan of Penn State football and basketball, the World
Wrestling Federation wrestling and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He enjoyed
singing and dancing, and various recording artists. Funeral services
will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 30, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral
Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. I.S. Owens officiating. Interment will
be made at Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg, R.R. 1. 

The Rev. Carl R. ELLENBERGER, 81, of Wapwallopen, died Thursday, Dec.
28, 2000, at his home. Born in South Fork Nov. 14, 1919, he was the son
of the late Rev. and Mrs. Robert Ellsworth (Yoder) Ellenberger. He was
united in marriage to Eva May Ziegel in 1943. Mrs. Ellenberger survives
at home. The couple celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary Aug. 28,
2000. He is survived by three sons and two daughters: Carle Ellenberger
of Butler, Thomas Ellenberger of Stephensburg, N.J., Randall Ellenberger
of Monaca, Margy Tripp of Wapwallopen and Sherrie Strain of Media. There
are ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by a sister, Ethel Cramer Powers and a nephew. Rev. Ellenberger
graduated from Nyack Missionary College June 1944, and began his
ministry in August of that year at Scotdale. During his ministry, he
served the following Alliance churches in Pennsylvania: Fayette City,
Butler, New Castle, DuBois and Huntingdon. After retirement in 1985, he
and his wife moved to Wapwallopen. They served three interim pastorates
in Somerset and North East. In addition, he served as assistant district
superintendent of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Western
Pennsylvania District and lived in Punxsutawney from 1965 until 1969. A
memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at the First
Alliance Church, III Mission Meade Drive New Castle, with the Rev.
Palmer Zerbe, district superintendent of the Christian and Missionary
Alliance, Western Pennsylvania District, officiating. Interment will be
made in the Butler County Memorial Park. 

Hilda M. COVERT, 67, of 500 N. Spring St., Everett, formerly of Saxton,
died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at the UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital. She
was bom Aug. 25, 1933, in Saxton, the daughter of James and Nora
(Leighty) Bair. She was married to Merle Covert Sept. 29, 1951 in
Saxton. Mr. Covert survives at their home. The following sons and
daughters survive: Gary Covert, Glenda Bull and Mrs. Robert (Bonnie)
Foust, all of Everett; Calvin Covert and Allan Covert, both of Hopewell;
and Beverly Grabill, Cumberland, Md. A grandson, Jason Strait, was
reared in the Covert home. There are 10 grandchildren and six great-
grandchildren. A granddaughter preceded her in death. The following
sisters survive: Marian Miller, Arvilla Arentz, Telethia Smuda and
Voneta Stopyra, all of Saxton; and Dorothy Ruby of Austintown, Ohio. A
sister, Elnora Streepy, and four brothers, Charles, Cletus, Gerald and
Thomas, preceded her in death. Mrs. Covert was of the Protestant faith.
She was a graduate of Saxton- Liberty High School, Class of 1951, and
had been primarily a homemaker during her lifetime. Funeral services
will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, at the Dalia Valle Funeral
Chapel, with the Rev. Ron Forrester officiating. Private interment will
be in the Langdondale Cemetery, Bedford County. 

Raymond Lee SINGER, 87, of 122 Huron Road, Six Mile Run, died Thursday,
Dec. 28, 2000, at his home He was born April 21, 1913, in Philipsburg,
the son of Harry and Viola (Fleck) Singer. He was first married to
Lillian Foor who preceded him in death in February 1977, then to Hilda
Foor who died in March 1996. The following sons and daughters survive:
Dorothy Kelly of Six Mile Run; Ruth (Singer) Myers of McConnellstown;
Charles Thomas Singer of Forrest Hill, Md.; Gary Singer and Greg Singer,
both of McConnellsburg; William Singer of California; Robert Singer of
Frederick, Md.; and Rod Singer of Phillipsburg, N.J. Stepchildren are
Donald Risbon of Hopewell; Patricia Stallings, Missouri; Mary ,Miller,
Salemville; Bill Fockler, Everett; and Marlene Ickes of Six Mile Run.
Three children, Raymond Singer Jr., James Singer and Larry Singer
preceded him in death. There are 28 grandchildren, 22
great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; 12
stepgrandchildren and 18 step-great-grandchildren. One grandchild, one
step-grandchild and a great-grandchild preceded him in death. Two
sisters, Edith, Leihty and June Wolf, both of Six Mile Run, and a
brother Robert Singer of Philipsburg, survive. Two sisters and three
brothers preceded him in death. Mr. Singer was of the Protestant faith.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and fought in the "Battle of the
Bulge." He was a member of the William P. Spyker American Legion Post
520 in Alexandria. Duiing his lifetime, he was a coal miner and a mason.
He enjoyed woodworking and hunting. Funeral services will be held at 2
p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home, Broad Top
City. Pastor Donald Simmons will officiate. Interment will be made in
Evans Cemetery, Six Mile Run, R.R., with full military honors. 

Minnie C. BAIR, 90, of HCR 61, Box 292, Mill Creek, died Sunday, Dec.
31, 2000, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Nov. 26,
1910, in Granville, she was the daughter of the late James and Prudence
(Miller) Sheets of Cumberland,, Md. She was united in marriaoe to George
W. Bair who preceded her in death Aug. 13, 1987. She is survived by two
daughters and a son, Mrs. Jean A. Park of HCR 61, Mill Creek, Jack W.
Bair Sr. of Huntingdon and Mrs. Jack (Sandra K.) Lancaster, HCR 61, Mill
Creek. There are ten grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 19
great-great-grandchildren and two step-grandsons. Also surviving is a
sister, Mary Wharton of Shirleysburg. She was preceded in death by four
brothers, Harry, John, Robert and Martin, and five sisters, Ethel
Gonzalez, Elsie Vetterly, Letha Lindsay, Bessie Sheets and Hazel Sheets.
Mrs. Bair was a member of the Fousetown Bible Church. She was first
employed at the Susquehanna Silk Mill, Huntingdon, then its successor,
Owens-Corning Fiberglas. She was later employed at Gerbo Shoe Factory,
Huntingdon, as a nurse's aide at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital,
Huntingdon, and was retired from Elco Corp., Huntingdon. Funeral
services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at the Robert E.
Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Paul Dodson officiating.
Interment will be made in the Mountainview Cemetery, Mill Creek. 

Fred L. "Bud" HESS, 67, of 1124 Mifflin St., Saxton, died Dec. 31, 2000,
at Altoona Hospital, following an extended illness. Born Dec. 28, 1933,
in Saxton, he was the son of the late Thomas L. and Pauline F. (Wenrick)
Hess. He was united in marria e to Geraldine E. Lynn June 7, 1953, in
Lakemont. Mrs. Hess survives at home. He is survived by two sons, T.
Randy Hess of Jacobus and F. Robert Hess of Philadelphia, and two
daughters, Sandie L. Isenberg of Newville and Jennifer L. Lane of
Reading. There are 11 grandchildren. Also surviving are one sister,
Alice Mae Heffner of Yardley and two brothers, state Rep. Dick Hess of
Bedford and Earl E. Hess of Six Mile Run. He was preceded in death by an
infant brother, Jack Hess. Mr. Hess was a member of the Saxton First
Church of God, where he was a trustee. He was a former member of the
Fairiess Hills Levittown Brethren Church, where he was a trustee and
church moderator. He was also a member of St. Luke's Cemetery Board and
served on the church building committee. He was a member of the Yardley
Wood-Side Fish and Game Club and the Bedford County Federation of
Sportsmen. He was a 1952 graduate of Saxton-Liberty High School. He
served in the U.S. Army with the 504th Military Police at Fort Gordon,
Ga., during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hess retired in 1982 from U.S.
Steel, following 30 years of service. He operated the electrolytic
tinning line at the Fairless Hills plant. He was formerly employed by
the Saxton IGA, R&R Vending and E. Eichelberger & Sons Store, Saxton. He
was also a bulk mail carrier with the U.S. Postal service between Saxton
and Huntingdon. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan.
3, at the D. Ronald Long Funeral Chapel, Saxton, with Pastor John
Robinson officiating. Interment will be made at St. Luke's Cemetery,
Saxton. 

Joseph Alexander MILLS, 86, of 2704 Warm Springs Road, Huntingdon, died
at 3:40 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical
Center, Altoona. Born Nov. 5, 1914, in Gallitzin, he was the son of the
late William and Blanche (Pressler) Mills. He was married to Margaret
Elizabeth Hess who preceded him in death Feb. 24, 1987. Surviving are
five sons: Frank G. Mills, Hesston; Douglas L. Mills, Campbellsville,
Kentucky; Joseph Michael Mills, Duquesne; Barry W. Mills and Matthew W.
Mills, both of Huntingdon; two daughters, Sandra K. Conrad, Hesston, and
Patricia (no other information given); 11 grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Ruth Cox, Huntingdon,
and a companion, Cloy Rogers, Tyrone. He was preceded in death by two
infant daughters, Cindy and Shirley Mills, as well as the following
brothers and sisters: Helen Keenan, Blanche Sowers, Kenneth, Jesse and
Richard Mills. Mr. Mills was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of
the Standing Stone VFW Post #1754, and the Frank P. Hommon American
Legion Post #24, Huntingdon. Mr. Mills graduated from Huntingdon High
School with the Class of 1932. He was a member of the Pa. Army National
Guard where he was a first sergeant with Company C of the 342nd Engineer
Regiment. His company was deployed during World War II. His service
included the campaigns at Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland.
He was awarded the European-African- Middle Eastern Service Medal and
the American Defense Medal. He was self-employed as a plumbing and
heating contractor. A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday,
Jan. 3, at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, Ridge Road and Juniata Ave.,
Huntingdon, with the Rev. David L. Dearing officiating. Interment will
be private. 

Gilbert G. McCLAIN, 78, Calvin, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at his home,
following an extended illness. Born Sept. 28, 1922, in Union Township,
he was the son of the late Dwight and Pearl (Stapleton) McClain. He was
married to the former Elsie L. Querry April 10, 1943, at the United
Methodist Church parsonage, Cassville. Mrs. McClain survives at their
home. Also surviving are the following children: Carol F. Colbert, Star
Route, Huntingdon; Larry A. McClain, Cassville; Bonnie E. Hess, Maytown;
Darlene L. Henise, Felton; Kathleen A. Barnhart, Star Route, Huntingdon;
David G. McClain, Cassville, R.D.; and Terry L. McClain, Calvin. Also
surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Dorothy Heaster,
Mapleton; Edna Hall and Betty Flanagan, both of Shiremanstown; Winston
McClain, Star Route, Huntingdon; Beth Edwards, McConnellstown; Jenny
Johnson, Hesston; Thomas McClain, Austin Tex.; Richard McClain,
Cassville; Barry McClain, Mount Union; and Stephen McClain, Star Route,
Huntingdon. Eighteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also
survive. He was preceded in death by one brother, Kevin McClain. Mr.
McClain was of the Protestant faith. He was co-owner of McClain Logging,
Calvin. He was also employed by the Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corp.,
Huntingdon, for 18 years. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.
Thursday, Jan. 4, at the Robert I. McClain Funeral Home, Cassville, with
the Rev. Donald Henderson officiating. Interment will be in Bowman's
Chapel Cemetery, Mapleton R.R. 

Lola Jane CRAWLEY, 89, formerly of Mount Union, who had resided with her
daughter since 1995 at 176 Fifth Avenue, New Rochelle, N.Y, died
Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at the Sound Shore Medical Center, New
Rochelle, N.Y. Her death was unexpected. Born April 8, 1911, in South
Boston, Va., she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary Elizabeth
(Medley) Guthrie. She was united in marriage to Clarence W. Crawley Dec.
28, 1928. Mr. Crawley died Oct. 7, 1993. She is survived by a daughter
and two sons, Juanita (Crawley) Rones of New Rochelle, N.Y.; Clarence
Edward Crawley of Ocala, Fla. and William Douglas Crawley Sr. of Mount
Union. There are 11 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She is
also survived by a sister, Lillian Saulkner of South Boston, Va. She was
preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers: Rosabelle Guthrie,
Mary Elizabeth Williams, Ernest Guthrie and James Guthrie. Mrs. Crawley
was a member of the Bowen Memorial Baptist Church, Mount Vernon, N.Y.,
where she was a mother and deaconess. She was a former active member of
the Mount Hope Baptist Church, Mount Union, where she was a deaconess,
missionary and choir member. She received her education in the South
Boston, Va., schools. Mrs. Crawley had been employed for many years at
the Letterkenney Army Depot, Chambersburg and had worked for a number of
years doing domestic work for the Giacobello family and other families
in the Mount Union area. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m.
Thursday, Jan. 4, at the Mount Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Mount
Union, with the Rev. I.S. Owens officiating. Interment will be made in
the Mount Union Cemetery. 

Noah M. SOUDERS, son of Matt S. and Terri E. (Suders) Souders of P.O.
Box 245, Newton Hamilton, died at birth at 6:42 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29,
2000, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. He is survived by his
parents. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Terry and
Cookie Suders of Mapleton and paternal grandparents Sam and Peg Souders
of Newton Hamilton. Also surviving are his great-grandparents, Mary
Suders of Mount Union, R.R. 2, Jim and Thelma Smith of MeVeytown, R.D.
1, and Evelyn Souders of Shirleysburg. He survived by his
great-great-grandmothers, Genevieve Suders of Mount Union, R.R. 2 and
Grace Fisher of McVeytown. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 2,
at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Rich
Morris officiating. Interment was made at the Haven Rest Memorial Park,
Shirleysburg, R.D. 1. 

George Junior CROWNOVER, 77, formerly of Huntingdon, R.D. 2, and most
recently of 513 Wilson Bridge Drive, Oxon Hill, Md., died Wednesday,
Dec. 13, 2000, at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, Mechanicsville, Md.
He had been ill for the past several years. Born Aug. 11, 1923, in
Miller Township, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late Beulah
Crownover and was reared in the home of Carl and Florence Crownover. He
is survived by his companion of 34 years, Delores Miller of Oxon Hill,
Md. He is also survived by a stepson. Richard Crownover of La Plata,
Md., and by Jane Booher Reynolds of Oxon Hill, Md who was reared in his
home. Mr. Crownover was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars,
Fort Washington, Md., and served in the United States Army during World
War II with a tank battalion. He attended Miller Grade School in Miller
Township, Bark Ridge School in Henderson Township and Alfarata Grade
School in Huntingdon. Mr. Crownover had worked on the Herbert Blair farm
at Cornpropst Mills, then as a telephone lineman with William
Bottenfield telephone contractors and Henkel and McCoy telephone
contractors. After moving to Maryland, he was employed in construction.
A memorial service was held at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in
Mechanicsville, Md. His step-son, gave the eulogy. Interment was made in
Sheltonham, Md.
