STATE COLLEGE - Donna Wicker Adams, 63, of State College, died Friday, January 18, 2002 at Centre Community Hospital. Born October 4, 1938 in Altoona, she was a daughter of the late J Lewis and Jeanette Shoenfelt Wicker. In 1959, she married her former husband, R. Bruce Adams. She is survived by a daughter, Rebecca L. Romig and a son, William Adams, both of State College, and two grandchildren, Benjamin and Sarah Romig of State College. She was preceded in death by a brother, J Lewis Wicker. She was a 1956 graduate of Altoona High School. She was the assistant manager and buyer for the Student Book Store for 27 years. She was a life long member of the Methodist faith. Her memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church, 1250 University Drive, State College, with the Pastor Scott Ott officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, Altoona, PA. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. YEAGERTOWN - Florence Mae Adams, 77, formerly of Yeagertown, died October 9, 2002, in Gainesville, FL. Surviving are: a son, Robert Adams, Lewistown; a daughter, Judy Adams, Branford, FL; a brother, Clarence McNamee, Branford, FL; and two granddaughters and one step-grandson. She was a waitress at Stewart's restaurant, Burnham.

Ida P. Adams
LEWISTOWN - Ida P. Adams, 92, of Creek Drive, Lewistown, died at 2:28 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Sept. 4, 1909, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Mary Jane (Bennett) Price. Her husband, Stanley T. Adams, preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1989. Surviving are: daughter, B. Lynne Westlin, Creek Drive, and a son, Robert P. Adams, Jeffersonville; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was employed at Strawbridge Clothiers, Haywood Wakefield and Order of the Eastern Star, all located in Philadelphia. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lewistown and a 50 plus member of the Order of Eastern Star. Her memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, with Karen McCachren officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery. There will be no viewing. Myles C. "Umpy" Adams Sr.
MATTAWANA - Myles C. "Umpy" Adams Sr., 82, of Mattawana, Mifflin County, died at 7:39 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2002, at Hershey Medical Center. Born Sept. 18, 1919, in Vineyard, Wayne Township, he was a son of the late Chester D. and Carrie E. (Moist) Adams. His wife, Lenora G. (Bingaman) with whom he celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Feb. 23, 2002, survives. Also surviving are: children, Myles C. Adams Jr., Port Royal, RD1, Mrs. Kevin (Ronna) Bloom, Mattawana, and Brian C. Adams, Duncannon; siblings, Mrs. Lawrence (Susie) Colledge, Lewistown, Grace Mizerek, Covina, CA, Florence Weaver, Lewistown, Melvin Adams, McVeytown, Betsy Fisher, Mattawana; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters, Dora Zeiders, Blanche Adams, Mary Settle, Annie Adams, and brothers, Homer Adams and Richard Adams. He was employed as a custodian for the Mifflin County School District before retiring in 1982. He was previously employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad and had also hauled steel. He was protestant by faith and a member of the Johnson Spring Hunting Camp, Longfellow. LEWISTOWN - Florence L. Alexander, 93, of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, and formerly of 522 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, died at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn. Born April 19, 1908, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Robert C. and Drucy E. (Lauver) Kauffman. Her husband, Jay D. Alexander, preceded her in death. Surviving are: a daughter, Jaylene D. Norton, 522 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, and a sister, Lorena K. Harvey, 522 W. Fourth St., Lewistown. She was preceded in death by two brothers. She was a homemaker. Early in life, she was a clerk in McMeen's Dept. Store and Montgomery Wards. She was a member of Lake Park United Methodist Church and the Ladies Bible Class of the Sunday School. MCVEYTOWN - Mabel G. Allison, 85, of Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, Lewistown, and formerly of McVeytown, died at 3:20 a.m. Monday, September 2, 2002, at Hershey Medical Center. Born Oct. 25, 1916, in Mattawana, she was a daughter of the late Thomas C. and Annie E. (Watts) Clark. Her husband, Harry S. Allison, whom she married June 16, 1934, preceded her in death on Oct. 18, 1988. Surviving are: children, Charlotte A. Fisher and Ray C. Allison, both of Lewistown, and Harry Lee Allison, McVeytown; six granddaughters and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Donald James Allison, on January 15, 1935, a sister, Margaret Ellis, and a grandson, Zak M. North in 1982. She was a 1934 graduate of McVeytown-Oliver High School. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the McVeytown United Methodist Church and the Dorcas Sunday School Class of the church. She enjoyed embroidery and word puzzles. PASSAIC, NJ - Jasmine Ariel Alverio, 2 1/2 months, of 13 Mineral Springs Ave., Passaic, NJ, died at 5 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at her residence. Born July 17, 2002, in Suffern, NY, she was the daughter of Daniel and Karen (Baker) Alverio Sr. Also surviving are: maternal grandparents, James and Linda Baker, Lewistown; paternal grandparents, Ariel and Virginia Alverio, Philadelphia; maternal great-grandparents, Samuel & Wilda Davies, Buffalo, New York; and a brother, Daniel Alverio Jr. Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Salvation Army Church.

Andrew B. Amig
BURNHAM - Andrew B. Amig, 88, of 213 Fifth Avenue, Burnham, died at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at the Locust Grove Retirement Village. Born March 10, 1914, in Mifflintown, he was a son of the late Harrison and Mabel (Renninger) Amig. His wife, Leah L. Amig, preceded him in death on Oct. 15, 1996. Surviving are: a son, Mark A. Amig, RR1 Box 453, Mifflintown; a brother and sister, J. Russell Amig and Helen Maurer, both of Mifflintown; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. He was a crane operator for Bearoff Brothers, Burnham. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was a member of St, Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Nora S. Ammerman
REEDSVILLE - Nora S. Ammerman, 95, formerly of 717 S. Wayne St., Lewistown, died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2002, at Outlook Pointe Commons, Reedsville. Born Oct. 22, 1906, in Cork, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Ann (O'Connell) Singleton. Her husband, R. Paul Ammerman, preceded her in death on June 19, 1993. Surviving are: children, Robert T. Ammerman, Columbus, GA, Mrs. Robert (Noreen) Swineford, Lewistown, and Mrs. Eric (Suzanne) McClellan, Lancaster; two sisters, Kitty Perry, Lewistown and Stella Donavan, Odessa, TX; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. She was a cashier for the Mifflin County School District for 15 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of Lewistown B.P.O.E. Dale W. Amspacker Sr.
BURNHAM - Dale W. Amspacker Sr., 63, of 121 N. Walnut St., Burnham, died at 5:16 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital. Born April 2, 1939, in Yeagertown, he was a son of Kenneth L. Amspacker, 128 N. Mann Ave., Yeagertown and the late Luella L. (Snook) Amspacker. His wife, Gloria J. (Harpster) Amspacker, whom he married April 23, 1966, survives. Also surviving are: four children, Dale W. Amspacker II and Darren M. Amspacker, both of Lewistown, Dean K. Amspacker, Burnham, and Daniel J. Amspacker, Lewistown; a brother, Dallas M. Amspacker, Yeagertown; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Deanna) McCahan, Port Royal; eight grandchildren and a great-grandson. He was a mechanic for Susquehanna Motors and later for PennDot for 21 years retiring in April 1999. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Yeagertown United Methodist Church. Chester D. "Monty" Anders
LEWISTOWN - Chester D. "Monty"Anders, 61, of Spruce Lane, Lewistown, died at 2:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill. Born Oct. 27, 1940, in Lewistown, he was the son of Dorothy I. (Miller) Anders of Newton Hamilton and the late Chester W. Anders. His wife, Diane L. (Baer) Anders, whom he married on Oct. 31, 1964, survives. Also surviving are children, Monty L. Anders of McVeytown, Mrs. Paul (Melissa) Moses of Steelton and Brian T. Anders of McVeytown; a brother, Thomas D. Anders of James Creek; a sister, Mrs. Edwin (Karen) Snyder of Newton Hamilton; and four grandchildren, Rachel E. Anders, Noah D. Anders, Kelsey L. Moses and Jarrett R. Moses. He was a 1958 graduate of Captain Jack High School, Mt. Union. He was a staff sergeant in the 104th Armored Cavalry of the Army National Guard of Pennsylvania, Huntingdon, having served 1963-1970. He was employed as a truckdriver for Gravytrain Express, Strodes Mills, retiring in 1991. Along with his wife, he currently operated Dick's Funnel Cake Stand. He was a member of Grace Covenant Church, Lewistown, and was active in the Barnabas Ministry of the church. He was the current president of the McVeytown Volunteer Fire Co. and was a member of the Mifflin County Fire Police. He was a past member of the Waynesburg Guard, the Newton Wayne Fire Co. and the Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship International. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Covenant Church, Lewistown, with Pastor Michael Bailey and Pastor Danny Neff officiating. Gladys A. Armstrong, 76, of Mifflin died Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at Lewistown Hospital. Born May 2, 1926, in Port Royal, she was a daughter of the late Holmes L. and Ottilia (McCahren) Hosler. Her husband, Herman W. Armstrong, Sr., whom she married May 8, 1943, survives. Also surviving are children: Peggy L. Casner, Mifflintown RR 4, Susan A. Armstrong, Lewistown, Herman W. Armstrong, Jr., Mifflintown RR 2, Gary C. Armstrong, Port Royal, one sister, four brothers, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker and enjoyed collecting bears. James "Jack" Berry Armstrong
YORK - James "Jack" Berry Armstrong, 58, of York, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at his residence. Born June 12, 1943, in Lewistown, he was the son of Edna E. (Runk) Armstrong of Reedsville and the late Crawford Armstrong. Also surviving are: a son, Gregory James Armstrong, Camarillo, CA, daughters, Christine A. Nagle and Angela L. Moore, both of Red Lion; a brother, Benjamin Armstrong, Dauphin; a nephew and four grandchildren. He worked as a Sales Rep. in the Communications Industry for the last five years and was currently employed by Oldies 96.1. LEWISTOWN - Frieda R. Arnold, 80, a resident of Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, formerly of 16 Rosemont Ave., Lewistown, died at 2:42 a.m. Monday, November 18, 2002, at the nursing home. Born Oct. 3, 1922, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Harry A. and Alvilda (Davis) Arnold. Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family having been preceded in death by a brother, Lee E. Arnold and two sisters, Helen G. McClellan and Mabel Arnold. She was employed as a Nurse's Aide at Lewistown Hospital. Early in life she was a manager of McCrory's Lunch Counter, Lewistown. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Lewistown. LEWISTOWN - Charles W. Auman Sr., 55, of 405 Green Ave., Lewistown, died at 9:01 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital. Born March 22,1946, in Lewistown, he a the son Betty (Laird) George of New York and the late Charles J. Auman. His wife, Barbara J. (Hackenberry), whom he married on June 12, 1965, survives. Also surviving are: children, Charles W. Auman Jr., Reedsville, and Michelle L. Snook, Amy J. Carolus and Michael A. Auman, all of Lewistown; sisters, Thelma J. Auman, Lewistown, Nancy D. Hellman, Buffalo, N.Y., and Tina M. Bidwell, Depew, N.Y; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant brother. He was a 1964 graduate of Kish High School. He was a machinist and assembler at New Holland, Belleville, with over 37 years of service. He was a member of Calvary Bible Church, Lewistown. MCCLURE - Elsie L. Aumiller, 88, of 72 Snook Road, McClure, died at 11:31 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at the Lewistown Hospital E.R. Born Jan. 7, 1913, in Alexandria, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Catherine (Grove) Anderson. Her husband, Murray J. Aumiller, preceded her in death on Nov. 26, 1972. Surviving are: children, Martha Krout, Dalton, GA, Norman B. Aumiller, 60 Aumiller Lane, McClure, Charles A. Aumiller, Phooenix, AZ, and Darrell L. Aumiller, McClure; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Philip, Albert and Clair Anderson; three sisters, Mertie Setzler, Emma Gardner and Eunice Heister; and a grandson, Charles A. Aumiller Jr. She was a garment worker at the Arrow Division of Cluett Peabody and Co. She was a charter member of Evangelical Baptist Church and the Decatur Fireman's Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of Alfarata Homemakers and ACTUW Retirees, and she was a volunteer for Mifflin-Juniata Area Agency on Aging, Inc. She also enjoyed traveling, doing volunteer work and crafts. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Edward G. Aurand
MIFFLINTOWN - Edward G. Aurand, 68, of Mifflintown RR1, died at 2:15 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, in the Emergency Room of Lewistown Hospital. Born June 21, 1933, in Lewistown, his wife, Nancy, whom he married July 28, 1984, survives. Also surviving are: children, Edward Aurand Jr., Mechanicsburg, Kathy Moyle, Myrtle Beach, SC, Bonnie Aurand, Lewisburg, NC, Robert Dunmire, Reedsville, Kimbra Boozel, Lewistown, and Steve Dunmire, Petersburg; a brother, William Davis, York Haven; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren. He retired on July 1, 1995 from Machine Shop 1 after working 43 1/2 years at Standard Steel, Burnham. He attended Arch Rock United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Mifflin Co. Sportsmen's Club and the Lewistown Moose. He was also a life member of the National Rifle Association, Juniata County Sportsmen's Association, Lewistown Pistol Club, Brooklyn Hose Co., and the Yeagertown Fire Co. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He organized the Juniata Co. Junior Rifle club in the 1970's and volunteered at National pistol matches in Ohio for the past five years. LEWISTOWN - Marjorie K. Aurand, 54, of 337 Terrace Blvd., Lewistown, entered into eternal rest at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at the Emergency Room at Lewistown Hospital. Born Feb. 6, 1948, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of Renno Aurand and the late Violet (Moist) Aurand. Surviving are: step-mother, Glendolene Aurand; sister, Patricia Aurand; Step-brother, Kenneth Hartley; two step-sisters, Carol Howe and Gayl Gibbons; six step-nieces and nephews and one great-step nephew. She was preceded in death by one brother. She was a client of Skills for 22 years and a participant in the Young at Heart & Adult Recreation programs at the Special Needs Center. She was a member of Pine Glen Church of Brethren. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family, friends and pets. Born Dec. 12, 1915, in Mifflin, she was a daughter of the late James and Cora (Leister) Walters. Her husband, Robert H. Aurand, whom she married in 1940, survives. BURNHAM - Robert H. Aurand, 84, formerly of Freedom Ave., Burnham died at 1:35 p.m. Monday Dec. 23, 2002, at Ohesson Manor. Born Oct. 13, 1918 in Vira, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Florence (Smith) Aurand. His wife, Mildred D. (Walters) Aurand died April 4, 2002. He was the last of his family having been preceded in death by a brother, Foster. He worked for the Shipping Department of American Viscose for 36 years, later he worked for Standard Steel. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Freedom Avenue United Methodist Church, the Newtown Fire Company and he was a mayor and council member for Burnham for many years. His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Barr Funeral Home, Inc., 120 Logan St., Lewistown with Rev. Larry Lutz officiating. Interment will be in Vira Methodist Cemetery. A viewing will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to: Freedom Avenue United Methodist Church, 513 Freedom Ave., Burnham, PA 17009.

Sarah E. Aurand
REEDSVILLE - Sarah E. Aurand, 86, of 205 Manns Narrows, Reedsville, died at 2:11 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at Centre Community Hospital, State College. Born Nov. 26, 1915, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late James B. and Maude (Hawk) Kitting. Her husband, Leonard L. Aurand Sr., whom she married Oct. 1, 1932, preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 1996. Surviving are: children, Betty (Mitchell) Lawhead, Reedsville, and Leonard L. Aurand Jr., Milroy; a sister, Carol Kitting, Ohesson Manor, Lewistown; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was a part owner-operator of Aurands-For-Sports in Lewistown. She worked at Honey Creek Inn in Reedsville, for17 years. She was also a pre World War II employee at Viscose. She was the Ladies Singles Pennsylvania Bowling Champion for two years. She was a member of Reedsville United Methodist Church. Her funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Reedsville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard J. Bender officiating. There will be no viewing.
