Mary E. Hack
MEXICO - Mary E. Hack, 100, of Mexico died on Friday, December 13, 2002 at her home. Born December 11, 1902 in Mifflintown, she was a daughter of the late Joseph P. and Catherine (Lauver) Ernest. Her husband, Harold E. "Baldy" Hack, died on November 8, 1980 and their daughter, Jane Hack Pannebaker died on August 28, 1955. She was also preceded in death by 3 brothers and 5 sisters: J. Blair Ernest, J. Glenn Ernest, John C. Ernest, Dorothea Ernest, Alma Hutchinson, Mae Hetrick, Anna Margaret Duncan and Lorma E. Magill. She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. She and her husband owned and operated Baldy's Store in Mexico for 46 years. She was an active member of Mexico United Methodist Church where she taught the Rose Circle Sunday School Class and organized the Lenten Teas many years ago. She was also a member of Walker Grange, White Shrine and a past matron of Mifflin Chapter #260 Order of the Eastern Star. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm Monday at Mexico United Methodist Church with Rev. Barbara Inch officiating. Interment will be in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There will not be a viewing. ORANGEVILLE - Donald C. Hackenberg, 63, a resident of the Orangeville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Orangeville, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at the nursing home. Frances M. Hackenberg
MIDDLEBURG - Frances M. Hackenberg, 70, of RR1 Middleburg, died at 1:15 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2002 in Lewistown Hospital's emergency room. Born Dec. 10, 1931, in Franklin Township, Snyder County, she was a daughter of the late Floyd L. and Beulah M. Moyer Hackenberg. Surviving are two sisters and brothers-in-law, Freida M. and Donald Doebler Sr. of Lewistown and Arla H. and Gerald Kratzer of RR1 Middleburg; nieces and nephews, Donald Doebler Jr., Kevin Doebler, Tina Howard, Brian Doebler, Faith Doebler and Troy Kratzer; grandnieces and grandnephews, Daniel, Daisy, Isaac, Joshua and David; and stepsisters and stepbrother, Faylene Rothermel, Phyllis Sholter, Dorothy Gilkey and Dale Zeckman. She was preceded in death by her step-mother, Grace Hackenberg. She was retired from Kinney Shoes Corp., Beaver Springs. She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, RR1 Middleburg. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Zion United Methodist Church, RR1 Middleburg, with Rev. Ed R. DeGand officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Charles R. Hackenberry
LEWISTOWN - Charles Russell Hackenberry, 89, a resident of Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg, formerly of 815 Valley Street, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at the village. Born Aug. 11, 1912, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Charles E. and Carrie E. (Getz) Hackkenberry. His first and second wife, Jean Esworthy Hackenberry and Iva Stetler Hackenberry, preceded him in death. Surviving are: two stepdaughters, Shirley Campbell of Camp Hill, and Kathy Stetler of Scotch Plains, NJ; four brothers, G. Elmer, P. Stanley and Robert A. Hackenberry, all of Lewis-town, and the Rev. J. Richard Hackenberry of Summerville; a sister, Dorothea of Lewistown; a granddaughter, Lynn Vermilya, Atlanta, GA; tow great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and one step-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene Yarsevich, and a brother, Howard Hackenberry of McVeytown. He was a graduate of Lewistown High School. He was retired from the Freedom Forge Corporation, formerly Standard Steel, in Burnham. Earlier in life he was employed by H.B. Weker Texaco. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Lewistown and worshiped regularly at Messiah Village. He enjoyed classic cars and Corvettes and was an enthusiastic participant in the social activities at Messiah Village. His funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 25, in the Messiah Village Chapel, with the Rev. J. Richard Hackenberry officiating. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. in St. Mark's Cemetery, Lewistown. A viewing will be held noon-1 p.m. at the chapel on Saturday. Myers-Harner Funeral Home in Camp Hill is in charge of arrangements. Helen T. Hackenberry
BELLEVILLE - Helen T. Hackenberry, 85, a resident of Valley View Retirement Community, Belleville, formerly of 280 West Fifth Street, Lewistown, died at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at the Retirement Home, 4702 E. Main St., Belleville. Born April 20, 1917, in Columbia County, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Inez (Lowe) Kile. Her husband, P. Stanley Hackenberry, of Valley View Retirement Community, whom she married on Oct. 13, 1937, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Fred (Joyce) Crotty, Middleburg, and Paul S. Hackenberry Jr., Reno, NV, and four grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family, being preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Early in life, she was a LPN at Black's Hospital in Lewistown, later becoming a homemaker. She was a member of Lake Park United Methodist Church. She was also a member of United Commercial Travelers-U.C.T. Auxiliary. She was an assistant secretary for the Burnham Borough Council. She was a girl scout leader for many years and was a Past Senior Counselor for U.C.T. Auxiliary. Her funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Mark S. Brower officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Ray G. Hackett Sr.
WILLIAM PENN - Ray G. Hackett Sr., 80, of Beverly Healthcare, William Penn, and formerly of McClure, died at 8:10 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002, at the nursing home. Born Oct. 19, 1921, in Siglerville, he was the son of the late Samuel C. and Gladys O. (Shank) Hackett. A companion with whom he resided, Elaine Kline, McClure, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Lynn (Karen) Kearns, 452 Whiskey Rd., McClure, Ray G. Hackett Jr., Halifax, and Vicky L. Howard, London, OH; a sister, Irene Ramsey, Brookline Manor, Mifflintown; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister, Robert L., Fern and Samuel P. Hackett and Olive Secrest. He was employed at Standard Steel, Burnham, in transportation, retiring in 1983. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in the Pacific Theatre in an Armored Division and Paxtonville WFV Post. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Ammon R. Haffly Sr.
MCCLURE - Ammon R. Haffly Sr., 69, of McClure, died at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2002, at his daughter's residence in Lewistown. Born Jan. 9, 1933, in McClure he was the son of the late Albert and Verdie (Weader) Haffly Sr. Surviving are: children, Cheryl Walters, Ammon R. Haffly Jr., and Kerby Kephart, all of Lewistown; brothers and sisters, Marjorie Hood, McClure, William Haffly, Florida, Dorothy Specht, Doris Hook and Thomas Haffly, all of McClure, and Albert Haffly Jr., Carlisle; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Penny S. Snook; two sisters, two brothers and one grandson. He was in the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. He was a general laborer. He was a member of Mt. Bethel Church of Christ in Mc-Clure. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Mt. Rock Cemetery, Lewistown, with the Rev. Donald Wise officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery.

Matthew A. Hahn
BEAVERTOWN - Matthew A. Hahn, 35, of Beavertown, passed away at 12:14 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2002, as a result of a tractor trailer accident on Paxtonville Road, a half mile east of Route 522, Franklin Township. Born Dec. 19, 1966, he was a son of Barry and Karen (Lytle) Hahn of Middletown. His wife, Lisa A. Huber, whom he married Dec. 1, 1990, survives. Also surviving are: two daughters, Alexis Nicole and Caleigh Renae, at home; a sister, Melissa A. Hahn, Elizabethtown; two brothers, Mark Jay Hahn, Middletown, and Mitchell Dean Hahn, Hershey; paternal grandmother, Bernice L. Hahn, Middletown; and ten nieces and nephews. He was a 1985 graduate of Lower Dauphin High School. He studied architectural drafting at Harrisburg Area Community College, Harrisburg, and pre-chiropractic studies at Scott County Community College, Bettendorf, IA. He served three years active duty in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Polk, LA. He continued his service for five years in the National Guard, 121st Transportation Co., Lebanon, where he was deployed during Desert Storm, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was currently employed as a farm laborer for Douglas Bowersox, Grain Farms, Penns Creek. He had also been employed as manager of the former McClure True Value Hardware Store and Zimmerman Electric. He was a member of Beaver Lutheran Church, Beaver Springs, where he was a member of the church council, chairman of the Stewardship and Finance Committee and the Call Committee, served on the Property and Grounds Committee and taught the Young Adult and Senior High Sunday School Classes. He was also a member of the VFW, Post 5640, Paxtonville, Rescue Hose Fire Co. and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, remodeling his home, racquetball and especially his daughters. A service of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Beaver Lutheran Church with the Rev. Charles A. Brophy officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Richard E. Hahn
RR2 MILLERSTOWN - Richard E. Hahn, 86, of RR2 Millerstown, went to be with his Lord at 6:25 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002 at his residence. Born Feb. 4, 1916, in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Meade Harold and Carrie Elizabeth (McDonald) Hahn. He was happily married for 61 years to the former wife Anna R. (Troup) Hahn, who survives. He dearly loved and enjoyed his family, especially his wife, Anna; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary E. Donnelly of RR1 Millerstown, Susan R. Spriggle and husband Randy of Millerstown, and Judy A. Wiley and husband Jim of Harrisburg; two foster children, David Duper and wife Dawn of Pasadena, MD, and Scott Ward and wife Tracy of Williamsburg, PA; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three generations of nieces and nephews. His arms were open to many other children and relatives in an hour of need. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard B. "Rick" Hahn, in 1970 at age 23; a foster daughter, Linda Bernhisel, at age 33; three brothers, Harold, Elwood and Eugene Hahn; and a sister, Mary Reist. He was the last of his immediate family. He was educated in the Harrisburg schools. He retired from HARSCO Corp. (formerly Harrisburg Steel Company) in 1981, with 41 years of experience. He was a part-time farmer who enjoyed gardening, watching television, sports, reading and fishing. He was an avid hunter and "Pappy" especially loved studying his Bible. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, RR2 Millerstown, where he had taught the Adult Sunday School class for many years. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from Turkey Valley United Methodist Church, RR2 Millerstown, with Pastor Salvatore E. Buonocore officiating. Interment will be in St. James United Methodist Cemetery, RR2 Millerstown. Family and friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church. William A. Haines
MANCHESTER - William A. Haines, 48, of 50 Creek Rd., Manchester, died at 8:47 a.m. Sunday, April 14, 2002, in the Lewistown Hospital Emergency Room. Born Feb. 11, 1954, in Renovo, he was the son of the late William A. and Bertha (Cook) Haines. His wife, Margaret J. (Veach) Haines, whom he married Oct. 7, 1989, survives. Also surviving are: a son, Delano A. Haines, Manchester; three sisters, Betty Bryant, Pasadena, MD, Laura Doy, Glen Burnie, MD, and Lynn Haines, Natalie, VA. He was employed as a machine operator with New York Wire, York. He was a member of the Northern York County Fish and Game and the North American Hunting Club. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Burnham Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. George S. Smith officiating. Ira C. 'Jaggers' Hanawalt
LEWISTOWN - Ira C. "Jaggers" Hanawalt, 87, a resident of Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, and formerly of McVeytown, died at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at the nursing home. Born Sept. 28, 1914, in McVeytown, he was the son of the late Rev. Henry William and Phoebe (Kirk) Hanawalt. His wife, Ethel (Murfin) Hanawalt, whom he married Sept. 3, 1937, survives. Also surviving are: sons, Dwight and wife, Pat Hanawalt, Bowie, MD and Ralph and wife, Donna Hanawalt, McAlisterville; a brother, Gaius Hanawalt, Tyrone; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, three brothers, and a sister. He was a graduate of Thompson Business College, Harrisburg. He was a Parts Manager and Bookkeeper at Noerr's Garage for 49 years, before retiring in 1986. He was a member of Spring run Church of the Brethren, where he was a Sunday School Teacher, Church Deacon, Church Clerk, member of the choir, Finance Committee and Trustee, and various other committees of the church. He was also a member of McVeytown Fire Co., Treasurer of McVeytown Lions Club, former Mifflin Co. School Board member, and drove ambulance for 18 years for McVeytown. His memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Spring Run Church of the Brethren with Rev. Darwin Gearhart officiating. A private interment will be in Spring Run Church of the Brethren cemetery. Friends will be received 6-8 p.m. Friday at the church. Muriel K. Hanawalt
MCVEYTOWN - Muriel K. Hanawalt, 90, of McVeytown, died at 5:05 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at the Malta Home, Granville. Born March 12, 1912, in McVeytown, she was a daughter of the late Joseph R. and Effie (Rupert) Hanawalt. Surviving are: a sister, Audrey Moyer, Upland, IN; and six nieces and seven nephews. She was a 1930 graduate of McVeytown-Oliver High School. She received her A.B. degree from Juniata College and her M.Ed. from the Pennsylvania State University in 1953. She taught first grade in McVeytown for 44 years, retiring in 1977. She was a member of the McVeytown Presbyterian Church, Mifflin County Historical Society, Pi Lambda Theta Sorority, Mifflin County Retired Teachers Association and national, state and local chapters of the teachers associations. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the McVeytown Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jeanette Mater officiating. Ralph A. Hanawalt
MIFFLINTOWN - Ralph A. Hanawalt, 91, of Brookline Manor, Mifflintown, formerly of Lewistown, died at 11 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at the manor. Born Jan. 25, 1911, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Samuel L. and Sarah Alice Price Hanawalt. His wife, Mabel K. (Kohler) Hanawalt, preceded him in death on Oct. 10, 1992. Surviving are three nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Hanawalt Pheasant. He was employed at Standard Steel, as a salesclerk at McMeens Department Store, and for 34 1/2 years with the U.S. Postal Service. He served in U.S. Army during World War II, receiving the Bronze Star and the Asiatic Pacific Service Ribbon. He was a life member of First United Methodist Church, Lewistown. Funeral services will be held at 1:45 p.m. Saturday, at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with Rev. Karen McCachren officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown. John L. Hancock Sr.
MT. UNION - John L. Hancock Sr., 86, of RD1, Mt. Union, died Friday Nov. 1, 2002, at JC Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born Jan. 10, 1916, in Rockhill Furnace, he was the son of the late Tone and Edith (Bard) Hancock. His wife, the former Zelda McCartney, survives. Also surviving are: six children, John Hancock Jr., Mt. Union, Dennis Hancock, RD1 Mt. Union, Wanda Staubs, Las Vegas, Nevada, Judy Taylor and Pamela Crouse, Hill Valley, and Pennie Wyland, Loretto; and five siblings, Rachel Keith, Orbisonia, Fred, Wilmer, and Daniel Hancock, Mt. Union and George W. Hancock, Johnstown. He owned the Hill Valley Gas Station for 67 years. His funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mt. Union with Rev. Robert L. Hannon
BETHLEHEM - Robert L. Hannon, 85, of Bethlehem, died Thursday Aug. 29, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill. Born Dec. 19, 1916, in Lewistown, Mifflin County, he was a son of the late Wilbert and Sarah K. (Free) Hannon. His first wife, Dorothy G. (Graham) Hannon, died in 1991. His second wife, Beatrice A. (Kile) Hannon, of Saylorsburg, survives, they observed their 8th wedding anniversary in Nov. 2001. Also surviving are: a daughter, Sandra K. Triantafelow, Bethlehem Township; two brothers, Paul and James Hannon, both of Lewistown; three sisters, Phyllis Aurand, Lewistown, Joanne Perry, State College, Eleanor Anderson, Iowa; two grandsons and four great-grandchildren. He was an electrician in the Rolling Mills of Bethlehem Steel for 36 years, retiring in 1976. He was a former member of the 540 Democratic Club of Bethlehem, a Troop Leader of the Boy Scouts of America #346 of Bethlehem, a member of the Order of the Arrow, a Board member and member of the Senior Citizens Bowling League of Bethlehem Senior Citizens, a Cub Scout Leader of Troop #312 of Freemansburg. He was a member of St. Stephen's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bethlehem. A funeral service will be from 11-12 noon Tuesday at the St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, 67 W. Robert K. Harmon
GRANVILLE - Robert K. Harmon, 73, of Malta Home, Granville, died at 9:26 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Nov. 29, 1928, in Belleville, he was a son of the late Jesse Guy and Margaret Mary (Donahey) Harmon. Surviving are: a sister, Mrs. Carl (Betty J.) Heimbaugh, Belleville; three brothers, Gary L. Harmon, New Holland, Charles k. Harmon, Harrisburg, and Gregory L. Harmon, Yeagertown. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Harmon and a sister, Patricia L. Rheam. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Belleville. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Baggus Funeral Home, Belleville with Rev. Lois Martin officiating. Thomas M. Harpster
EAST WATERFORD - Thomas M. Harpster, 61, of East Waterford, died at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Oct. 24, 1940, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Thomas M. and Virginia (Wagner) Harpster. His wife, Lois Susan (Hockenberry) Harpster, survives. Also surviving are: four daughters, Sharon Smith, Philadelphia, Pamela Carter, Strodes Mills, Susan Cisney and Paula Swartz, East Waterford, and a son, Thomas Elliot, Lewistown; a brother, Richard Harpster, Cherry Valley, CA, a sister, Vivian Hoskin, York; 12 grandchildren; and four half sisters and two half brothers. He was preceded in death by a daughter and a brother. A Methodist by faith, he held memberships in American Legion Post 90, VFW Post 7011, Fame Fire Co. #2, City Hook & Ladder #14, East Derry Fire Co. #1, Junction Fire Co., all of Lewistown, Eagles Club of Yeagertown, and Teamsters Union Local 776, Harrisburg. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Faith United Methodist Church, East Waterford, with Rev. Donald Walters officiating. Lois A. Harris, 73, of Port Royal RR 2, died Sunday, March 31, 2002 in Cyprus Gardens, FL. Born Oct. 10, 1928 in Cuba Mills, she was a daughter of the late William E. and Mabel (Wright) Switzer. Her husband of 53 years, Harold F. "Mart" Harris, survives. Also surviving are children, Bonita Harris, Harrisburg, H. Craig Harris, Port Royal RR 1, Douglas A. Harris, Port Royal RR 2, and Mark A. Harris, Grand Blanc, MI; sisters and brother, Betty Carter, Leone Potter and Ardith Yeisley, all of Mifflintown, Frank Switzer, Port Allegheny, and Shirley Houtz, Chambersburg, seven grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 8 brothers and 4 sisters. During her life, she worked at Gordon's Department Store and was co-owner of Harris Family Treat and Walnut Store and Post Office. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and a primary Sunday School teacher for many years. She belonged to the Gordon Girls, volunteered at Locust Grove Retirement Village, was a sports enthusiast, and enjoyed playing games and cards, bird watching, and traveling. Her funeral will be held at 11 am Friday at her church. Interment will be in the Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown. Friends may call Thursday from 7-9 pm at Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Clair 'Mike' Harshbarger
KALAMAZOO, MI - Clair "Mike" Harshbarger, 79, of Kalamazoo, MI died on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at his home. Born June 1, 1923, in Mattawana, he was the son of the late Milton and M. Grace Harshbarger. Surviving are a daughter, Lita Eastman of Diamond Bar, CA; a brother, Carl Harshbarger of Mattawana; two grandchildren and a great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet; two brothers and two sisters. He resided in Michigan but travelled to Jamaica during the winter months. He loved the quietness of the island's mountains and being able to work the land, growing fresh fruits and vegetables. Private arrangements were held at the convenience of the family.

Harold C. "Butch" Harshbarger
STRODES MILLS - Harold C. "Butch" Harshbarger, 60, of Strodes Mills, died at 8:15 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Dec. 7, 1941, in Lewistown, he was the son of Bruce and his stepmother Ruth Harshbarger of McVeytown and the late Florence (Price) Feltenberger. His wife, Gloria L. (Wetzel) Harshbarger, whom he married Sept. 30, 1961, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Robert (Lesa) Bailey, 522 North, Lewistown, Brenda Harshbarger, at home, and Mrs. David (Debra) Boyer, McVeytown; brothers and sisters, Mrs. William (Judy) Corson, Lewistown, Mrs. Glenn (Jane) Druckemiller, McClure, David Harshbarger, Lewistown, Christine Spearing, Lewistown, Mrs. Rick (Linda) Yeater, Lewistown, and Randy Harshbarger, McVeytown; and a granddaughter, Lee Ann Boyer. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Darla and Tammy Harshbarger; and one sister, Mabel Yoder. Early in life, he was employed at American Viscose Corporation, then New Holland and last for Falconer Glass, before retiring in 1986. He was member of Fellowship Baptist Church. He was a member of the Mifflin County Sportsmen's Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. BELLEVILLE - M. Luciele Harshbarger, 74, of Belleville, died at 9:10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at her home. Born June 19, 1928, in Belleville, she was a daughter of the late Herman H. and Maude B. (Hostetler) Harshbarger. Surviving are: a companion, Pius H. Kanagy, Belleville; two sisters, Velma L. Suloff, Mifflintown RR3, Mrs. William (Nancy) Bullard, Fresno, CA; a brother, H. Ross Harshbarger, Belleville; three nieces and five nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, A. Lois Henry in 1981. Samuel C. Harshbarger
MCVEYTOWN - Samuel C. Harshbarger, 91, formerly of RR1, Mt. Union, but since May a resident of Meadowview Manor, McVeytown RD1, died early Saturday morning Aug. 31, 2002, at the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. He died unexpectedly. Born Nov. 9, 1960, in Bratton Township, Mifflin County, he was a son of the late Caleb and Tillie (Miller) Harshbarger. His wife, Sarah Martha, whom he married June 14, 1933, in Hagarstown, MD, by the Rev. J.M. Carter, survives. Also surviving are: three siblings, Lorma Jane Moist, McVeytown, Wilber Harshbarger, Mifflintown and Mary Isabel Knepp, Huntingdon. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and the following siblings: Edna and Effie Moist, Joseph and Mabel Harshbarger, Elva Hesser and Bessie Ronk. He was a member of the Nazarene Church of Rockhill Furnace. He was a lifetime farmer having operated farms in both Burnt Cabins and Hares Valley. He was an avid hunter. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mt. Union, with the Pastor Darrell Nicklow of the Nazarene Church officiating. Dorothy E. Hart
THOMPSONTOWN - Dorothy E. Hart, 73, of RR 2, Thompsontown, died at 8:15 p.m. Friday May 10, 2002, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born Jan. 14, 1929, in Fayette Township, Juniata County,she was a daughter of the late Roy E. and Hilda (Writer) Swartz. Her husband, L. Wayne Hart, whom she married Feb. 19, 1947, survives. Also surviving are: children, Donald L. Hart and his wife Sue, Thompsontown, Kenneth W. Hart, Otwell, IN, Sandra R. Reed and her husband Carl, Thompson-town; one sister, Jeannette Landis, Etters; a sister-in-law, Claudia Swartz, Loveland, Colorado; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Swartz. She was a 1946 graduate of Fayette High School and she al-ways served on the alumni committee. She retired as a supervisor of Lyon Fashions, Mifflintown, with 28 years of service and since 1978 to the present, she was the co-owner of Hart's Fabrics, RR 2, Thompsontown. She was a loyal and very active member of the Locust Run United Methodist Church, RR 1, Thompsontown, since 1953. Her activities at the church included Sunday School Teacher, Member of the Parish Committee, Church Administrative Board, Cradle Roll Administrator, and volunteering in the church office, Song Leader, past president of the Ladies Aid Society, and a volunteer of all the children's programs. Her hobbies included flowers, travel and working with the computer where she had compiled the genealogy of the Swartz family and the Hart family. Her main interest was her family being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Linda L. Hartman EASTON - Linda L. Hartman, 62, of Easton, died Friday, June 7, 2002, at Easton Hospital, Easton. Born March 23, 1940, in McVeytown, she was the daughter of the late Harold Foster and Frances Viola (Casner) Henry of Burnham. Her husband, Clifford M. Hartman Sr., survives. PORT ROYAL - Martha C. Hartman, 96, of 313 Milford St., Port Royal, died at 9:55 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at Brookline Manor Convalescent Home, Mifflintown RR1. Born March 10, 1905, in Port Royal, she was a daughter of the late George and Anna (Underwood) Crozier. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold F. Hartman Sr., on Oct. 26, 1988. Surviving are: two sons, Harold F. Hartman Jr., Oak Ridge, TN and Fred Q. Hartman, Vienna, VA; two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Marianna) Ewert, Calumet, MI and Mrs. William (Amelia) McElwee, Cherry Hill, NJ; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers, Herbert Crozier and Grant Crozier, and one sister, Mae Horning. A former elementary school teacher in Juniata County, she taught Grades 1-8 in a one-room schoolhouse. She was a graduate of Port Royal High School and Shippensburg Normal School. She was a member of the Port Royal United Methodist Church, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher and choir member. Born Sept. 21, 1951, in Lewistown, he was a son of Kathryn E. (Yoder) Hartzler, of 105 Maple Grove Rd., and the late Paul C. Hartzler, who died in 1974. MOUNT PLEASANT MILLS - Walter Hassinger, 72, of RR1 Mount Pleasant Mills died Wednesday, March 6, 2002. Born in New Lancaster Valley, Milroy, he was the son of the later James and Lettie (Deheiser) Hassinger. Surviving is one brother, John C. Hassinger, New Lancaster Valley. He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and Marine Corps. Early in life, he worked at Kovalchick of Burnham and did farming. Pauline B. Haubert
MCALISTERVILLE - Pauline B. Haubert, 84, of Southview Apartments, McAlisterville, died at 11:20 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2002 at Harrisburg Hospital. Born June 15, 1918, in McAlisterville, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Southern and Sylvia (Phillips) Benner. Her husband, Harold A. Haubert, whom she married on June 5, 1939, preceded her in death on Dec. 14,1994. Surviving are a son, Ty S. Haubert and his wife, Mickey L., of Stuart, FL; and her identical twin sister, Irene Haubert and her husband, Paul, of McAlisterville. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Benner and Harold Benner. In earlier life she was employed as a seamstress for both L. Shellenberger and Son, McAlisterville, and Lyons Fashions, McAlisterville. She later retired from the PA Dept. of Motor Vehicles, Harrisburg. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, McAlisterville, and Lost Creek Golf Club, Oakland Mills. She enjoyed painting, fishing and golfing. LEWISTOWN - Vivian A. Haubrick, 63, of 179 W. Fourth St., Lewistown died at 4:05 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2002, in Brookline Manor, Mifflintown. Born May 15, 1938, in McVeytown, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Florence (Stewart) Hambright. She was the wife of John Haubrick Jr., of MIfflintown, whom she married in 1956. Also surviving are two sons, Mark Haubrick and Michael Haubrick, both of Lewistown; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Marjorie) Goss of Lewistown; three step-brothers, Charles Hambright of California, Russell Hambright of McVeytown and Jack Hambright of Lewistown; a step-sister, Mrs. Marian Kline of Lewistown; and a granddaughter. She was preceded in death by three step-brothers and one step-sister. She worked in the strapping department of American Viscose for 38 years. Hayduk, whom she married Aug. 23, 1941, preceded her in death on Aug. 5, 1997. Surviving are: children, Michael J. Born Dec. 12, 1924, in Carlisle, she was the daughter of the late George and Esther (Myers) Hurley. Her husband, Rev. Harold H. Hayes, preceded her in death on April 22, 1988. Surviving are children, Michael G. Hayes of 907-G E. Logan Ave., Altoona, Edward M. Hayes of 1805 Kings Ct., State College and Richard H. Hayes, of Eden Prairie, MN. She was the last of her immediate family. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. She attended Bible study classes and was active in many church activities. Born Nov. 28, 1943, in Allensville, he was a son of Goldie (Harshbarger) Hazlett of Allensville and the late Herbert F. Hazlett. His wife, Carol J. (Everetts) Hazlett whom he married July 6, 1970 survives in Belleville. Also surviving are: a son, Kevin G. Hazlett, Allensville; stepchildren, Mrs. Edsel (Vicki) Hamman, Three Springs, Kathy Carolus, Belleville, Duane McKinney and his wife Joani, Mill Creek; three sisters, Mrs. Cecil (Joan) Knepp, Belleville, Mrs. Elwood (Mary Ellen) Rough, Wapakaneta,OH, and Mrs. Ronald (Carol) Wilson, Reedsville; several special nieces and nephews; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. BELLEVILLE - Ada F. Heffner, 91, of Valley View Terrace Apartments, Belleville, died at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2002, at her residence. Hazel L. Heider
BURNHAM - Hazel L. Heider, 88, of 210 8th Ave., Burnham, died at 7:07 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Nov. 25, 1913, in Ryde, she was the daughter of the late Nevin and Hulda (Hall) Love. Her husband, John S. Heider, preceded her in death on July 11, 1987. Surviving are: sisters, Mrs. Ruth Pollick, Herndon, VA, Betty J. Love, Shirleysburg, and Maxine Raffensperger, Elizabethtown. She was preceded in death by four brothers and six sisters. She was a widow of a veteran. She was employed in the Cake Converting Dept. of American Viscose for 35 years, before retiring in 1972. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Lewistown. A Graveside Service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown, with Father Thomas Marickovic officiating. There will be no public viewing. Cheryl W. Heimbach
LEWISTOWN - Cheryl W. Heimbach, 40, of 323 Logan St., Lewistown, died at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Brookline Manor Nursing Home, Mifflintown. Born Nov. 20, 1962 in Lewistown, she was a daughter of Charles W. and Rita M. (Burd) Moser, 323 Logan St., Lewistown. Surviving are: a daughter, Heather K. Brown, Lewistown; two brothers, Norman E. 'Nick' Heimbach Jr., Lewistown and Marc C. Heimbach, Lt. Commander Retired, Mechanicsburg; two sisters, Ms. Rita K. Ritchey, McVeytown and Mrs. Scott (Marilyn D.) Searer, Milroy; a granddaughter, Veronica D. Brown; eight cousins, five nieces and four nephews. She was a secretary for Karl Aviation in New Cumberland. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and the Tuesday Club in Harrisburg. She was very a kind and caring person especially to the handicapped. She also loved her family very much and was a very creative human being. A Rite of Christian Burial will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Hoenstine Funeral Home, Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown with Father Thomas Marickovic officiating. Julia M. Helwig
MCALISTERVILLE - Julia M. Helwig, 86, of RR2, McAlisterville, died at 8:43 a.m. Sunday, August 11, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital. Born June 19, 1916, in Fayette Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel E. and Myrtle (Cramer) Varner. Her husband, Russell Dale "Dude" Helwig, preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1990. Surviving are: two sons, Samuel Helwig and wife, Betty, Thompsontown, Rodney Helwig and wife, Polly, Millerstown, and eight daughters, Shirley Soder, RR1, McAlisterville, Mrs. Guy (Gail Cohick) Barnes, Newport, Glenda Helwig, McClure, Mrs. Ronald (Judith) Harling, Mifflintown, Mrs. Fred (Nancy) Rodgers, Lewistown, Mrs. Bob (Roxie) Portzline, McAlisterville, Mrs. Tony (Victoria) Selvoski, Carlisle and Mrs. Brian (Sharon) Lehman, Mifflintown; a daughter-in-law, Nancy D. Helwig, McAlisterville; 36 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, 21 great-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by four grandchildren and a son, Ronald D. Helwig, on Aug. 24, 2000. She was the last of her immediate family having been preceded in death by two sisters, Charlotte Chambers and Verna Hood, and a brother, Norman Varner. She was a homemaker. She attended St. John's United Methodist Church, RR1, McAlisterville. Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday from the McAlisterville Chapel of Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. James A. Neimond Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the St. John's United Methodist Cemetery. Emma J. Hendricks
MIFFLINTOWN - Emma J. Hendricks, 80, of Locust Grove Retirement Village and formerly of 4 Ridgewood Terrace, Lewistown, died at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at Lewistown Hospital. Born June 21, 1922, in Mattawana, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Hartley) Morrison. Her husband, Samuel H. Hendricks, preceded her in death in 2000. Surviving are: children, Mrs. Dennis K. (Bonnie) McMullen, 10226 Ferguson Valley Road, Lewistown, Edith Notestine, Lewistown, John H. Hendricks, McVeytown, Lynn R. Hendricks, Reedsville, Linda M. Paajanen, Lantana, FL, Laura A. Hendricks and Jennifer L. Hendricks, both of Lewistown; brothers and sisters, Nellie Roberts, Hope Specht, and Zelpha Vanada, all of Lewistown, Joseph Morrison, Arizona, Jack Morrison, Granville, and Betty Osburn, Lewistown; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Peg Stine. She was a homemaker. She was a Lutheran by faith. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Ethel Florence Hennaman
MT UNION - Ethel Florence Hennaman, 84, formerly of Silverford Heights, RD#1, Mt. Union, died at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at the Huntingdon Manor. Born Feb. 23, 1918, in Altoona, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Belle (Kimberly) Rhodes. Her husband, Merrill W. Hennaman, whom she married Sept. 14, 1936, preceded her in death on Aug. 29, 1983. Surviving are: one daughter, Mrs. David E. (Phyllis) Colbert of HCR 1, Huntingdon; two brothers, Marion Rhodes of Sugar Valley, RD#1, McVeytown and Guy Rhodes of RD#1, McVeytown; four grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; and two great-great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters: Dale, Robert, Glen and Lewis Rhodes, Janet Huffman and Bertha Walton. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Mt. Union. She was a member of the Auxiliary of Newton-Wayne Volunteer Fire Company and the Atkinson Mills Senior Citizens. Her funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mt. Union, with the Rev. Ed Seeley officiating. Interment will be in the IOOF Cemetery at Mapleton. Audrey M. Henry
LEWISTOWN - Audrey M. Henry, 77, of Beverly Healthcare - William Penn, Lewistown died at 3:05 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2002, in Lewistown Hospital. Born Aug. 5, 1924, in Milroy, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur H. and Carrie Eliza (Bumgardner) Kibe. She was the wife of the late Eugene Ray Henry, who died June 23, 1970. Surviving are two daughters, Sonja Zimmerman of Mifflin and Brenda J. Armirio of Reston, VA; a brother, Floyd S. Kibe of Milroy; two sisters, Mrs. Jack (Lucille) Steele of Lewistown and Mrs. Howard (Arlene) Plessinger of Lock Haven; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Dennis L. Henry and Ronald E. Henry; a brother, Harvey Kibe; and five sisters, Gladys Rager, Delores Shank, Evelyn Kibe, Mary Kibe and Beatrice Cunningham. She worked at Peoples Drug Store, Burnham, for 30 years. She was a past member of Evangel Baptist Church, Lewistown. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with Larry D. Rhodes officiating. A viewing will be held one hour before the service. Beatrice T. Henry
LEWISTOWN - Beatrice T. Henry, 84, a resident of Outlook Pointe Commons, Lewisburg, and formerly of the Coleman House, Lewistown, died at 3:55 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. Born Aug. 29, 1917, in Mifflin County, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Ada Henry. Surviving are: a daughter, Suzzane D. Henry, of 2406 Logan St., Harrisburg, PA 17110; and a brother and sister, Merle Henry, 1280 Alfarata Rd., Lewistown and Clara Murray, Mingoville. She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. She retired from the American Viscose Corporation in 1972 and later was employed at Empire Kosher. She was a member of City Hook and Ladder and Junction Fire companies and the VFW Ladies Auxiliaries. Her memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Donald Wise officiating. There will be no viewing, but family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Dorothy M. Henry
LEWISTOWN - Dorothy M. Henry, 82, of Maplewood Avenue, Lewistown, died at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born April 13, 1920, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late John A. Corson and Mary Ella (Gross) Corson Silks. Her husband, Edward R. Henry, preceded her in death in 1988. Surviving are: five children, Mrs. John (Betty Jane) Wendel, Illinois, Robert Henry, Florida, George Henry and Mrs. Michael (Patsy Ellen) McCaffrey, both of Lewistown, and Terry Henry, Burnham; two siblings, Lanny Silks, Milroy, and Dorothy Corson, Ohio; 16 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, George "Bud" Corson; a sister, Mary Kauffman and a granddaughter, Shannon Thompson. She was a member of the Salvation Army Church and Moose Lodge #143, Lewistown. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown with Major Paul T. Mackneer officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. A viewing will be held 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mary Ellen Henry
LEWISTOWN - Mary Ellen Henry, 90, formerly of 1065 Dry Valley Rd., Lewistown, died at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin. Born Nov. 17, 1911, in Milroy, she was a daughter of the late Franklin Henry and Hannah Barbara (Dobson) Shirk. Her husband, William Thomas Henry, preceded her in death April 26, 1975. Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Lola) Kearns, Dry Valley, Lewistown; a daughter-in-law, Frances C. Henry, Headland, AL; six grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: a son, Franklin T. Henry in 1992; a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter; a sister and two brothers. She attended St. John's Lutheran Church, Siglerville and Little Valley Presbyterian Church, Vira. She was a member of lady Butler Rebekah Lodge #316 and the Black's Senior Citizens Center, Lewistown. Her funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville. Roy L. Henry Sr.
LEWISTOWN - Roy L. Henry Sr., 77, of 173 Klondyke Drive, Lewistown, died at 9:15 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at his residence. Born Dec. 8, 1924, in Milroy, he was the son of the late Albert and Nancy (Shank) Henry. His wife, Peggy Henry, preceded him in death on July 20, 2000. Surviving are five children, Roy L. Henry Jr. of Lewistown, Mrs. Louis (Linda) Zannino of Chambersburg, Mrs. Bernard (Joan) Chatman of Lewistown, Tim M. Henry of Lewistown and Mrs. Duane (Tammy) McMullen of Lewistown; two siblings, Raymond "Brownie" Henry of Lewistown and Edna Mae Leach of Mifflintown; 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey, in 1989; four brothers and three sisters. He worked for Granville Township and was retired from Lewistown Trust Co. Bank. He served in the U.S. Army, receiving the Purple Heart, the World War II Victory Campaign Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Salvation Army and Moose Lodge #143, Lewistown. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with Major Paul T. Mackneer officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, where graveside military services will be conducted by VFW Post 7011. A viewing will be held 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
