BELLEVILLE - Wilma V. Bishop, 83, of 406 Center Drive, Belleville, died at 3:07 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital. Born March 18, 1919, in St. Louis, MO, she was a daughter of the late Leonard P. and Frieda (Hoppman) Burch. Her husband, Kenneth E. Bishop, whom she married Jan. 16, 1970, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Joseph (Rita Jean) Leone, Naples, FL, and Michael D. Vroman, Grover, MO; brothers, Richard J. Burch, St. Louis, MO, Edgar T. Burch, St. Louis, MS, and Robert W. Burch, Grand Junction, CO; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. She was a graduate of Holy Cross Parochial Lutheran School, St. Louis. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Walnut Springs Racquet Club and was a four-time Pennsylvania Senior Tennis Games Champion. She was also a National Singles Tennis Champion in her age group in 1989 and 1991 in Syracuse, NY, and St. Louis, MO. Her funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Valley View Haven Chapel, Belleville, with the Rev. J. Fuast Hissong officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery. Richard L. Bitner
MT. UNION - Richard L. Bitner, 55, of 509 S. Division St., Mt. Union, died unexpectedly at 4:25 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Sept. 19, 1946, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late George A. and H. Virginia "Ginny" (Greathead) Bitner. His wife, Linda M. (Stewart) Bitner, whom he married on Oct. 10, 1970 in Chambersburg, survives at home. Also surviving are two daughters, Jody L. Baker of Huntingdon and Stacy L. Coulter of Fort Riley, KS; a half-sister, Judith Shatzer of Upper Strasburg; and a granddaughter. He was a member of Abbey Reformed Church, Huntingdon. He was employed by Suburban Propane of Burnham since 1997. Prior to that, he spent 19 years with PCNB, both in Huntingdon and Mt. Union. He was a 1966 graduate of Chambersburg High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Mt. Union Lions Club, F&AM Lodge 688, Mt. Union, and served on the board of directors for Tricounty Drug and Alcohol Commission, Lewistown. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mt. HUNTINGDON - Marion Esther Black, 75, of HC 01, Huntingdon, died at 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at her home in Union Township, Huntingdon County. Born Oct. 29, 1926, in Rockhill Furnace, she was a daughter of the late Elbin "Chick" and Nora (Gutshall) Chilcote. Her husband, John R. Black Sr., whom she married June 8, 1947, preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 1994. Surviving are: children, Dena M. Baker, HC 01, Huntingdon, John R. Black Jr., Ebensburg, and Sandra K. Baker, HC 01, Huntingdon; three sisters, Maxine Black, Altoona, Jane Numer, Ebensburg, and Dorothy Kelly, Huntingdon; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and sister. She was a homemaker and co-owner, along with her husband, of Black's Handyman Store, Calvin, for a number of years. Earlier in life, she had worked at Elco, Huntingdon. She was a member of the Calvin United Methodist Church, Calvin. Her funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Robert I. LEWISTOWN - Mary E. Black, 80, of 196 S. Main St., Lewistown, died at 10:15 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare William Penn. Born Oct. 16, 1922, in Perry County, she was a daughter of the late John H. and Vertie (Wagner) Stone. Her husband, Milton R. Black, preceded her in death in 1979. Surviving are: two children, Milton F. Black, Thompsontown, and Mrs. Donald (Mary) Shoemaker, McVeytown; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Kenneth Black in 1950 and two brothers, John F. and George W. Stone. She was a housewife. She was a member of Assembly of God Church Pleasant Acres. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Barr Funeral Home, 120 logan St., Lewistown with Rev. Harold Imes officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery. Charlotte Lasynda Bloom
BRADENTON, FL - Charlotte Lasynda Bloom, 94, of Bradenton, FL, died Jan. 21, 2002. Born March 21, 1907, in Lewistown, she moved to Florida in the 1950s. She is survived by: a niece, Nancy Boxill of Reno, NV, and several other nieces and nephews. She graduated from the Lewistown Hospital Nurses Training School She was a retired registered nurse, having worked for over 50 years. She was a life member of the Retired Teachers Association, a former member of The Pilot Club, and an avid craftsman who enjoyed rug hooking. Mary Ellen 'Chub' Boaz
MILROY - Mary Ellen "Chub" Boaz, 67, of 38 Woodlawn Ave., Milroy, died at 1:30 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital, following a lengthy illness. Born Nov. 13, 1934, in Naginey, she was the daughter of the late Frank Daniel and Ruth Elizabeth (Kurtz) Berich. Her husband, William L. Boaz, whom she married April 25, 2002, survives. Her first husband, Lester George Thompson, preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 1972. Surviving are three siblings, Robert E. Berich and Richard J. Berich, both of Reedsville, and Mrs. Fay (Carole) Henderson of Belleville. She was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Krot, and a niece, Wendy Sue Berich. She was a 1952 graduate of Milroy High School. She worked at Cluett-Peabody Arrow Shirt Co., Lewistown, for 32 years. She was a member of Milroy Fire Company's Ladies Auxiliary and the Milroy Senior Center. She was a Methodist by faith. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy. There will be no public viewing. Phyllis A. (Goss) Boggess
CORAOPOLIS - Phyllis A. (Goss) Boggess, 78, of Coraopolis since 1950, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at her home. Born June 28, 1924, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Claire (Aurand) Goss. Her husband of 56 years, Wilbur R. Boggess, survives. Also surviving are: two children, Charles G. Boggess, Auburn, NY, and Claire A. Tarquinio and her husband David, Center Township. She was preceded in death by four siblings, Kenneth V., Ray, Helen Irene, and Marvin Goss. She was a homemaker. Phyllis I. Booher
LEWISTOWN - Phyllis I. Booher, 70, of 203 North Grand St., Lewistown, died at 6 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2002, at her residence. Born Nov. 7, 1931, in Decatur Township, she was a daughter of the late Merle and Mary (Marker) Deavor. Her husband, Samuel G. Booher, whom she married May 15, 1954, survives. Also surviving are: a daughter, Deborah A. Isabel B. Book
PORT ROYAL - Isabel B. Book, 85, of Brookline Manor, RR 1 Mifflintown and formerly of Port Royal, died at 11:05 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2002, at the home. Born Dec. 27, 1916, in Walker Township, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel G. and Anna K. (Seiber) Bashore. She was the wife of the late Carl M. Book, who died on April 23, 1979. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Judith) Zettle of RR1 Port Royal; two sons, Samuel J. Book and Harrisburg and Craig A. Book of Port Royal; one granddaughter; five step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline B. Henderson. She was retired from the Juniata Valley Bank, Port Royal branch, as a bookkeeper. She was an avid braided rug maker and homemaker. She was a 1935 graduate of Port Royal High School and a 1939 graduate of Bucknell University, Lewisburg. She was a member of the Port Royal Presbyterian Church, where she was a former primary Sunday School teacher, primary Sunday School superintendent, Sunday School treasurer, church treasurer and member of the women's Victory Class. She had also provided transportation for Meals on Wheels. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with Pastor Richard Burchfield officiating. Roy D. Book
MIFFLINTOWN - Roy D. Book, 90, of Mifflintown, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at Perry Village, New Bloomfield. Born May 4, 1912, in Walker Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late William and Melissa (Hackenberger) Book. His first wife, Jane (McCahan) Book, died Nov. 1, 1958. His second wife, Iva (Junk) Sheesley Book, whom he married June 16, 1961, survives. Also surviving are: a son, Gerald L. Book, Port Royal; a step-son, Gary G. Sheesley, Ivyland; a stepdaughter, Sandra Sieber, Thompsontown; three sisters: Viola Lauver, RR2, Mifflintown, Mary Corbin, Brookline Village, Mifflintown, Jane Benner, Greencastle and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Book and two sisters, Esther Saner and Ruth Gingrich. He was a retired manager from Goodman's Feed Mill, Port Royal, where he had worked for 40 years. For 14 years he was a Weights and Measures inspector for Juniata County. He was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church and Milford Grange, Licking Creek. He volunteered with Blood Mobiles and Juniata County Meals on Wheels. His service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church with Rev. Louise Knotts officiating. Interment will be in St. Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery. There will be a viewing Wednesday evening 7-9 p.m. at the Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Charles E. Boonie Jr.
PETERSBURG - Charles E. Boonie Jr., 73, of RD1 Box 784, Petersburg, died at 11:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2002 at his home. Born Sept. 21, 1928 in Neffs Mills, he was the son of the late Charles Elmer and Irene (Wilson) Warefield Boonie. His wife, Gertrude Mae Bowman, whom he married Sept. 21, 1950, preceded him in death on July 18, 1979. Surviving are: children, Linda Barmasse, Rinard, IA, Kenneth Boonie, Huntingdon, Barry Boonie, RD, Warriors Mark, and a stepson, James Hommon; brothers and sisters, L. Maxine Deihl, Petersburg, D. Jean Barrett, Johnstown, Wayne E. Boonie, RD1, Petersburg, Wesley A. Boonie, RD1, Petersburg, James L. Boonie, Rd1, Petersburg, Mary E. Lightner, RD1, Petersburg, and C. David Boonie, Millheim; four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Carmon and Glenn. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict having been a Staff Sergeant stationed at Fort Monmouth, NJ. He was a truck driver and technician at Centre Concrete Company in State College for 40 years. He was of Protestant faith. He was a life member of Shaver's Creek Volunteer Fire Company, and a member of American Legion Post #150, Petersburg. He also enjoyed making woodcrafts, especially birdhouses. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. James Stork officiating. LEWISTOWN - Sophie Boop, 92, a resident of Outlook Pointe, Lewistown, formerly of 114 Pannebaker Ave., Lewistown, died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday Dec. 19, 2002 at Outlook Pointe. Born Nov. 17, 1910, in Huntington, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Katherine Sczerbe. Her husband, Robert E. Boop, died July 10, 2000. Surviving are: a daughter, Katherine 'Joann' Minsker, New Castle,DE; and three grandchildren, Anthony P. Minsker, Scott D. Minsker, and Lori Ann Fitzsimmons, all of Delaware. She was employed early in life at American Viscose Corp. and later retired from the Shirt Factory in 1971. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday Dec. 23, 2002, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Thomas Marickovic officiating. MATTAWANNA - Foster E. Boozel, 84, of Mattawanna, died at 6:05 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at the Malta Home, Granville. Born June 30, 1918, he was a son of the late Albert and Mary (Bilger) Boozel. His wife, Genevieve (Harshbarger) Boozel, whom he married March 16, 1939, preceded him in death on March 12, 1994. Also surviving are: seven children, Mrs. Raymond (Bernadene) Miller, Westwood Village, Enola, Mrs. Ronald (Donna) Miller, Big Greenbriar Road, McVeytown, Carl E. Boozel, Port Royal, Gary L. He retired with over 35 years service at PA Glass Sand, McVeytown. He had also worked at Latherow Sawmill, McVeytown and in contracting for many years. He was a member of F&AM Lodge #376, McVeytown, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Harrisburg Consistory, the Newton-Wayne Lions Club, and the American Legion Post #107, Mt. Union. He served in the U.S. Navy Seabrees during World War II and received the Victory Medal in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mt. Union with Rev. Donald E. Peters Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Haven Rest Memorial Park, RD1, Shirleysburg. LEWISTOWN - Deloris J. "Sis" Bottorf, 68, of 421 Belle Vernon Avenue, Lewistown, died at 6:10 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital. Born July 30, 1933, in Mifflin County, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin J. and Jennie V. (Lynn) Habber-shon. Her husband, Wilbur H. "Midge" Bottorf Sr., whom she married on Nov. 2, 1952, survives. Also surviving are: children, Alan B. Bottorf, Marysville, Mrs. Timothy G. (Karen) Burke, 324 S. Main St., Lewistown, Wilbur H. "Red" Bottorf Jr., Dillsburg, and Annette L. Bottorf, at home; a half-brother, Harry Lynn, 70 Fort Granville Lane, Lewistown; three grandchildren, one step-grandchild, and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother. She was an LPN working at the Lewistown Hospital for 30 plus years, before retiring in 1996. She was a member of Pleas-ant Acres Assembly of God Church. She was a Sunday School teacher, and active with the Missionettes. She enjoyed baking, decorating cakes, making candy and craft painting. Stanley A. 'Bart' Bottorff
LEWISTOWN - Stanley A. "Bart" Bottorff, 77, of 224 Terrace Boulevard, Lewistown, died at 3 p.m. Monday May 20, 2002, at his residence. Born Nov. 15, 1924, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Glen S. and Edith (Carter) Bottorff. His wife, Joyce M. (Blazer) Bottorff, preceded him in death on Jan. 9, 2000. Surviving are: children, Donna L. Weaver, 717 Roosevelt Avenue, Lewistown, Mrs. Randy (Dixie L.) Harshbarger, 37 Mountain View Lane, Mattawana, and Mrs. Jeffrey (Wendy S.) Spaulding, 349 Terrace Boulevard, Lewistown; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Barry and Jerry Bottorff, and two brothers, Ronald and Donald Bottorff. He was employed as a hotstick lineman for Penelec in Lewistown with over 30 years of service, before retiring in 1975. He was in the US Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific and European Theater. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Lewistown. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, US Route 522N., Lewistown, with Mr. Kurt L. McKinney officiating. LEWISTOWN - Bert A. Bowen, 78, of Pleasant Acres West, Lewistown, died at 5:50 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at his daughter's residence in Mechanicsburg. Born March 5, 1924, in Derry Township, Mifflin County, he was the son of the late Harry and Catherine (Tate) Bowen. His wife, Martha (Bressler) Bowen, whom he married on Dec. 26, 1942, survives. Also surviving are three children, Mrs. John (Bonita) Archfield of Mechanicsburg, Mrs. Anthony (Beverly) Spada of Falls Church, VA and Ronald E. Bowen and daughter-in-law, Linda (Carstetter) Bowen, of Severn, MD; a sister, Audrey Bobb of Yeagertown; six grandchildren, Christine Ellenberger, Adonica Spada, Jill Sprigg, John Archfield Jr., Aimee Bowen and Michael Bowen; and two great-grandchildren, Elaina and Nathan Sprigg. He was an ironworker for Local 404 in Harrisburg for 41 years, retiring in 1986. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II, 710th Tank Battalion, Tank Commander. He was a member of Yeagertown United Methodist Church and American Legion Post #945, Wormleysburg. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Born Dec. 25, 1984 in Lewistown he was the son of William E. Jr. and stepmother Carol (Hoover) Bowersox of 168 Strodes Run Road, Lewistown, and Christina F. (Haubrick) Clark and stepfather Scott M. Clark of 45 N. Walnut St., Lewistown. Also surviving are: brothers and sisters, Joseph E. Bowersox, Fort Campbell, KY, Mrs. Josha (Christy) Kreider, St. Mary's, GA, a stepsister, Meah L. Clark, Burnham, and a stepbrother, Todd Thomas, CA; maternal grandmother, Ethel M. Haubrick, Lewistown; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Marcella M. Bowersox, William E. Bowersox Sr. and Donald H. Haubrick. He was a former student of Lewistown Area High School and Mifflin Juniata Vo-Tech and was currently employed at Kmart, Burnham and was previously employed at Dunkin Donuts and the Mifflin County Housing Authority. BELLEVILLE - William H. Bradford, 70, of 257 Hartzler Dr., Belleville, died at 5:55 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Valley View Haven, Belleville. Born Aug. 19, 1931, in Granville Township, Mifflin Co., he was the son of Roland (Snyder) and Mildred J. (Crosson) Bradford. His wife, A. Marie (Baker) Bradford, whom he married July 24, 1955, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Gregory (Debra) Seidel, Georgetown, SC, and Mrs. Frederic (Nancy) Khuzkian, Newport, NC; two grandchildren, Catherine Rose Marie Khuzkian and Paxton Bradford Seidel. He was the last of his immediate family. He was a self-employed dairy farmer at Bradstad Farm, Ferguson Valley, for 40 years before retiring in 1990. He was a member of Ellen Chapel Church. He was the director of the Advisory Board from 1970 to the present at JVB; 50 year member of Fort Granville Grange #1902; Ponoma Grange, Juniata County; PA State Grange and the National Grange; McVeytown F&AM #376 and the Harrisburg Consistory; Tall Cedars of Lebanon; former insurance and director agent at Husbandmans Mutual Fire Insurance Co.; life member of the National Holstein Assoc. and a Dale Carnegie Graduate; 4-H leader for 20 years; former Atlantic Dairy Co-op member from 1980-1984 and a former order for Milk Marketing Director. MIFFLIN - Rebecca Jane Bramm, 65, of Juniata Street, Mifflin, died Monday, September 23, 2002 at her home. Born September 6, 1937 in Mifflin, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Edna (Rothrock) Wise. She is survived by children; Ray C. Bramm, Jr., Thompsontown, Mrs. Brian (Nina K.) Beaver, Selinsgrove, and Robert L. Bramm, Lewistown; one sister, Mrs. George (Dixie) Hafer, Reedsville and 4 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rose. She worked at Corkin's Restaurant, Lewistown and at Empire Kosher, Inc., Mifflintown. She was a member of the Mifflin Fire Co. Auxiliary and the Lewistown Moose. She enjoyed playing bingo, reading and many types of needlework. A graveside memorial service will be held at 10:30 am Saturday at Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown, with the Rev. William N. Charles H. Brasuell
ALLENTOWN - Charles H. Brasuell, 80, of Allentown, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, in his home. Born in Ridgway, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Appalonia (Lenze) Brasuell. He was the husband of Anna M. (Civitts) Brasuell, whom he married in May 1943. Also surviving are three daughters, Maryanne C. Maletz of Norman, OK, Charlotte M. Carter of White Haven and Margaret M. Barker of Pittsburgh; a sister, Margaret Connelly of Pocomoke CIty, MD; and seven grandchildren. He was an 1943 graduate of Penn State University. He was a former health administrator of the mental health and mental retardation program for the Northampton County and was a former executive director of the Lehigh Valley Society for the Crippled Children and Adults. He attended St. Timothy's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Allentown. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a recipient of a Bronze Star. He attained the rank of lieutenant and served in the 28th Division in the European Theater. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Bellevue and a member of Stroup Alexander VFW, Belleville. He was also a member of the Allentown and Easton Rotary clubs. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the church. There will not be a public viewing. Born Aug. 21, 1917, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late, Earl E. and Annie L. (Spigelmyer) Sulouff. Her husband, J. Lester Bratton, preceded her in death on May 10, 1994. Rev. Ralph E. Bratton
Rockford, IL - The Rev. Ralph E. Bratton, 101, of Rockford, IL, formerly of McVeytown, passed away Aug. 24, 2002, at the age of 101. Born Oct. 10, 1901, he was the son of the late Clyde R. and MarthaBelle (Sunderland) Bratton of McVeytown. Surviving are: his wife, Carmenalla Bratton and a sister, Mrs. George (Dorothy) Crowell, of Florida. Rev. Bratton had started a Spanish mission in Rockford, IL, preaching in both Spanish and English until the late years.

MIFFLINTOWN - Dorothy J. Britcher, 89, of RR1, Mifflintown, died at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at her home. Born Nov. 18, 1912, in Lewistown, Mifflin County, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Ida Berkheimer. Her husband, Thomas A. Britcher, whom she married March 27, 1944, survives. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family having been preceded in death three sisters, a brother and her step-father Charles Burkholder. She was a homemaker and a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Mifflintown where she had served on the communion committee for many years. She also had served as a clerk for the Fermanagh Township election board. Thomas J. Britt Jr.
LEWISTOWN - Thomas J. Britt Jr., 70, of 198 Summit Drive, Pleasant Acres, Lewistown, died at 1:21 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2002, at his residence. Born May 31, 1931, in Yeagertown, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Naomi (Buttorf) Britt Sr. He was the husband of Janet (King) Britt, whom he married on Aug. 13, 1955. She survives as home. Also surviving are two sons, Michael J. Britt of Lewistown and Stephen D. Britt of Milroy; a sister, Berniece Thoeny of Los Angeles, CA; and three grandchildren. He was a graduate of Shippensburg Teacher's College, receiving a bachelor of science in education. He was a secondary school teacher for the Mifflin County School District, working at Chief Logan High School from 1958 to 1986. From 1986 on he worked as a substitute teacher. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic of Jesus Church and Lewistown Moose Lodge #143, and was a past member of Lewistown Elks Lodge #663. He was active in Derry Township Rec Board and the revitalization of the Derry Township Community Park. He was also active in Little League baseball and was volunteer assistant for the Chief Logan football team from 1960 to 1970. He was a supporter of Father Flanagan's Boys Home. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and vegetable gardener. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with Rev. Born Feb. 23, 1922, in Millerstown, she was a daughter of the late Nevin and Etta (Feese) Bardell Sr. Her husband, Delmar L. Brofee, whom she married Feb. 7, 1942, survives. Also surviving are: four sons, Merril L. Brofee, Robert D. Brofee, Edward C. Brofee, all of Millerstown, and James M. Brofee, Alglen; two brothers and two sisters, Clair Bardell, Nevin Bardell Jr., Kathryn Beaver, all of Millerstown, and Marian Long, Roherstown; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Pfoutz Valley United Methodist Church, RR2 Millerstown. She was a member of the Perry County Historical Society and assisted in the establishment of the historic Anspach House in Millerstown. PALATKA, FL - James Harrison "Jim" Brower, 87, of 382 Alabama Ave., Palatka, FL, formerly of Lewistown, died at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2002, in his residence. Born Sept. 23, 1914, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late James Lester and Jennie (Miller) Brower. He was the husband of the late Jena (Loudenslager) Brower, who died on July 7, 1989. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Henry (Nancy Jean) Casner of Lewistown and Mrs. Gregg (Pamela) Smith of Mifflinburg; a son J. Timothy Brower of Lewistown; a sister, Alma Sayers Close of Lewistown; a brother, Richard I. Brower of California; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Glen H. Brower, and two great-grandchildren. He had owned and operated Riverside Mobile Homes and Sales, Lewistown, from 1953 to 1975. Prior to that he had been a master core maker at Standard Steel and served as tax collector of Lewistown from 1944 to 1952. He was a member of Grove Memorial United Methodist Church, Lewistown, where he served as a deacon. He was a past member of the Rotary Club of Lewistown and later of the Rotary Club of Hastings, FL. He was a past president of the Lewistown Chamber of Commerce and a past president of the PA Mobile Home Dealers Association. He also served as head of the Derry Township Sewer Authority and was instrumental in lobbying for the Raystown Dam Project. Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Mt. John Beaver Brown
HUNTINGDON - John Beaver Brown, 79, of 633 Warm Springs Ave., Huntingdon, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at the Oaks at Westminster Woods, Huntingdon. Born July 23, 1923, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late Carl F. and Ada (Beaver) Brown. His wife, Nancy Mae (Smith) Brown, preceded him in death. Surviving are two sons, John B. Brown Jr. of Croton-on-Hudson, NY and Thomas F. Brown of State College; a daughter, Mrs. J. William (Susan Elizabeth Brown) Rumbaugh of Huntingdon; two grandchildren; two brothers, Carl F. Brown Jr. of Huntingdon and Richard Brown of Huntingdon; and dear friend, Ms. Gene A. Smith. He was a life-long member of First United Methodist Church, Huntingdon. He was a 50-year member and past president of the Huntingdon Rotary Club and a 50-year member of Mount Moriah Lodge 300, F&AM. He was also a member of Valley of Altoona, A.A.S.R.; Jaffa Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S.; Royal Order of Jesters, Altoona Court 70; Huntingdon Commandery 65, Knights Templar; Standing Stone Royal Arch, Chapter 201; Holy Royal Arch Masons; and Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge 976, Huntingdon. He was past president and former member of Huntingdon Country Club. He was past president, secretary and trustee emeritus of J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, where he served for over 25 years. He was also a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity at the Pennsylvania State University. He was a former member of the Juniata Valley Funeral Directors Association, the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association. He graduated from Huntingdon High School with the Class of 1941. He graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with the Class of 1947 and graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science with the Class of 1950. He was employed as a funeral director in Huntingdon for over 50 years and upon retirement was the Chairman of the Board of the John B. Brown Funeral Home, Huntingdon, and the Koch Funeral Home, State College. He began his career in funeral service in 1947, succeeding his father, Carl, his grandfather, Harry, and his great-grandfather, Phillip, in the family business founded in 1865. He was instrumental in founding or operating numerous businesses in Huntingdon and Centre counties, and served as a board member of Microdata Systems Inc. of State College until his death. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, attaining the rank of Lieut. (jg), serving in the Pacific Theatre of Operations aboard the U.S.S. Berrien (APA62). He was a recipient of numerous community service awards and honors, recently receiving the 2002 Good Scout Award from the Juniata Council of the Boy Scouts of America. MIFFLINTOWN - Beula G. Brubaker, 91, widow of Samuel L. Brubaker and formerly of Mifflintown RR 2, died Wednesday, December 25, 2002 at Brookline Manor. Her memorial service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, January 4 at Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown. Vivian M. "Tom" Brubaker
RICHFIELD - Vivian Marjorie "Tom" Brubaker, 91, of RR1 Richfield, entered into eternal rest at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, May 5, 2002, at Brookline Manor, RR1 Mifflintown, where she was admitted two weeks ago. Born Oct. 3, 1910, in Maze, Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ida (Sausman) Arnold. Her husband, Otto Charles Brubaker, whom she married Feb. 5, 1930, preceded her in death Aug. 2, 1989. Surviving are: three daughters, Evelyn J. Heisey and husband, Harry A., Thompsontown, Connie L. Rudy and husband, E. Richard, Palmyra, and Vicki L. Reichenbach and husband, Kenneth D., Richfield; one brother, Raymond Arnold, Cocolamus; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; and four generations of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Maxine Geraldine Benner, on April 17, 1996, a great-granddaughter, Michaela, in 2000; three brothers, Harry "Bud" Arnold, George Arnold and John Arnold; three sisters, Hazel Booker, Dorothy Davis, and Jean Graybill. She was educated at Cocolamus Grammar Schoolhouse. She was employed from 1965-1975 at the former Richfield Shirt Factory, and also assisted her husband in the raising and tending of over 3000 chickens. She also did seasonal work at the former McAlisterville Cannery. She was a member of the Richfield United Methodist Church for 50 years. She was also a member of the Richfield Ambulance League. She had received a 50 year meritorius award for her years of consecutive voting. She dearly loved her family, enjoyed gardening and yard work, and loved her home, keeping it spotless. She held a special love for her cat, "Toby". Her funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Richfield United Methodist Church, Richfield, with the Pastor Vernon Shenberger officiating. Interment will be in Richfield Union Cemetery, Richfield. Family and friends will gather for the viewing from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Mills. John R. Bryner
MCALISTERVILLE - John R. Bryner, 65, of RR1, McAlisterville, died at 5 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2002 at his home. Born Jan. 29, 1937, in Spruce Hill Township, Juniata County, he was the son of the late William J. and Ethel (Henry) Bryner Sr. His wife, D. JoAnn (Kelley) Bryner, survives. Also surviving are a son, Richard M. Bryner of McAlisterville; a daughter, Lori A. Spade of Millerstown; a brother, William J. Bryner Jr. of Port Royal; two sisters, Kathryn Felmlee of Doylesburg and Mary Hart of Mifflintown; and four grandsons. He was preceded in death by a brother, David Bryner, and a granddaughter, Kayla Deamer. He was a retired truck driver for L&R Lumber, McAlisterville. He was a member of the NRA and Bass Masters. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday from the Henry Funeral Home, Honey Grove, with Rev. James Neimond officiating. Interment will be in East Waterford Cemetery. Friends may call 2-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will be present 7-9 p.m.

Terry Allen "Ted" Bryner
BERKELEY SPRINGS, WV - Terry Allen "Ted" Bryner, 53, of Berkeley Springs, WV, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at Morgan County War Menorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs, WV. His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 95 Union St., Berkeley Springs, WV, with Pastor Charles Foshee officiating. Interment with graveside military honors will be in Spohrs Crossroads Cemetery, Berkeley Springs, WV. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home. Stanley J. Bubb
MILLERSTOWN - Stanley J. Bubb, 52, of Reward Rd., Greenwood Twp., Millerstown, died Friday in the Carlisle Hospital, Carlisle. Born April 16, 1949 in Lewistown, he was the son of Palmer E. and Athalia M. (Bigelow) Bubb. Surviving are: his companion, Marie Lenig; daughters, Sara M. Bubb and Laura K. Bubb, both at home; brothers, Robert E. Bubb, Newport, Ronald P. Bubb, Little Rock, AR, Larry D. Bubb, Millerstown, H. William Bubb, State College, and sisters, Jean Wright, Newport, Karen Harriman, New Bloomfield, and Jane Myers, Carlisle. He was an Air Force veteran of Vietnam having served from 1968-1972. He was employed by John Gleim Jr. Inc., Carlisle. He was a member of the Liverpool American Legion Post #364. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed shooting pool having played for several pool teams in Perry County. His funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday from the David Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with Pastor Katherine Behrens officiating. Interment will be in Hill Cemetery, Duncannon, with full military honors by the New Bloomfield VFW Post #7463. William Earl Buffington
BELLEVILLE - William Earl Buffington, 81, of A 127 Valley View Terrace, Belleville, died at 6:35 p.m. Saturday Aug. 31, 2002, at Valley View Haven. Born Oct. 25, 1920, in Newport, he was a son of the late Earl and Mary Elizabeth (Manning) Buffington. His wife, Helen Louise (Grubb) Buffington, whom he married Sept. 2, 1945, survives. Also surviving are: five children, Mrs. John (Cheryl) Hasson, 7518 S.R. 655, Reedsville, William I. Buffington, Palm City, FL, Ralph Buffington, Alta Loma, CA, Bruce Buffington, Lewistown, David Buffington, Hummelstown; one brother, Ray Buffington, Brooksville, FL; seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Mark Buffington and a brother, Leroy Buffington. He was owner of Buffington's Office Equipment from 1953 until retiring in 1982. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WORLD WAR II as Tech Sgt. Marine Air Corps, Squadron 311. He was a graduate of Newport High School. He was a member the Newport Lodge #381 F & AM, the Newport Royal Arch #23, Juniata Valley #64 Royal & Select Masters, the Scottish Rite Harrisburg Consistory, S.P.R.S 32nd Degree, Member & Past President of the Lewistown Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow & a member of the Lewistown Country Club. He was a member of Maple Grove Mennonite Church. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Maple Grove Mennonite Church. Turn onto Maple Grove Road, North of Belleville from Route 655, with the Pastor Laban Peachey officiating. A private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing, however the family will receive friends following the service at the church. Joseph A. Bullock
HAVRE DE GRACE, MD - Joseph A. Bullock, 80, of Havre de Grace, MD, died Tues-day, May 7, 2002, at his home after an extended illness. Born April 5, 1922, in Baltimore he was the son of the late Edwin and Mary (Krepp) Bullock. His wife, Mildred Arlene (Treaster) Bullock, whom he married July 27, 1979, survives. Also surviving are: four step-children, Steven D. Demaree, Phoenix, AZ, Jaylene L. Lepley, Reedsville, David R. Demaree, Lewistown, and Scott D. Demaree, Havre de Grace, MD; three grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. He retired from Bell Atlantic after 37 years of service. He was a member of the Pioneers and a member of the Joseph L. Davis #47 American Legion, Havre de Grace, MD. A private memorial will be held at the convenience of the family.

Donald E. Bumgardner
LEWISTOWN - Donald E. Bumgardner, 68, of 8 Green Tree Lane, Lewistown, died at 8:40 a.m. Sunday, March 31, 2002, at his residence. Born Nov. 1, 1933, in Reedsville, he was a son of the late George S. and Ruth (Wagner) Bumgardner. His wife, Jane Renninger, whom he married Aug. 4, 1955, survives. Also surviving are: children, Terry K. Bumgardner, Lewistown, Timothy E. Bumgardner, Lewistown, and Mrs. Charles (Dona Jane) Woodring, AL; brother and sisters, Dorla J. Moyer, VA, George Bumgardner, Reedsville, Mrs. Thomas (Jane) Knarr, Burnham, and Mrs. Joseph (Gloria) Dixon, Yeagertown; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Korean war. He was supervisor of the Receiving Dept. at Cero Metal Co. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Lewistown, a life member of Lewistown Elks Lodge #663, Lewistown, and a member of Moose Lodge #143, Lewistown, and the American Legion, Centre Hall. His funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 21 S. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Dolores M. Calhoun officiating. Interment will be in Church Hill Cemetery, with a military graveside service by VFW #7011. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Barr Funeral Home Inc., 120 Logan St., Lewistown. Dorothy L. Bupp
LEWISTOWN - Dorothy L. Bupp, 84, of Lewistown, died Thursday Sept. 19, 2002, at her home. Her husband, Stanley L. Bupp, preceded her in death. Surviving are: three children, Phyllis A. Kline, Lewistown, Christina L. Keck, Elmira, NY, Dennis M. Bupp, Harrisburg; three sisters, Geraldine Morris, Phyllis Hockenbrock and Elaine Frock, all of Florida; five grandchildren, Jay, Dennis, Jill, Andrew and Anthony; three great-grandchildren, Jordan, Joseph and Ethan. She was preceded in death by a son, Stanley Jr. She was a retired Secretary to the Commonwealth of PA, retiring in 1982, since her retirement she served as a volunteer at Lewistown Hospital. She was a member of the Lewistown Garden Club and a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lewistown. She lived a good life and was a blessing to all who knew her. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Zimmerman-Auer Funeral Home, 4100 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg with Arthur Frank officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewistown Hospitals Volunteers. Cremation arrangements were by the Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg.

J. Hurley Burchfield
MIFFLINTOWN - J. Hurley Burchfield, 86, of HC 63, Mifflintown, died at 3:08 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital. Born May 19, 1915, in Mifflin, he was a son of the late John W. and Annabelle (McCrum) Burchfield. His wife, Sara G. (Gilson) Burchfield, whom he married Oct. 2, 1938, survives. Also surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. larry (Sally) Harris, RR2, Port Royal, and two sons, Richard H. Burchfield, RR2, Port Royal, and Ted B. Burchfield; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was the last of his family, having been preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. He was a 1933 graduate of Mifflintown High School where he participated in track and basketball. He was the former owner and operator of the Mifflin Dry Cleaners and Laundromat. He retired after being in business for 34 years. He was a member of the Faith Bible Church of Port Royal and the Mifflintown Lions Club. His funeral will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday at Faith Bible Church, 4th St. Extended, Port Royal, with Pastor Nick Frauenhoffer officiating. Interment will be in New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, where the family will be present from 6-8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to: Faith Bible Church, P.O. Raymond R. Burdge
YORK - Raymond R. Burdge, 60, of York, York Township, died at 6:55 p.m. Wednesday Aug. 28, 2002, at York hospital. Born Feb. 1, 1942, in East Waterford, Juniata County, he was the son of the late Ernest G. and Helen (Parson) Cisney. He was the husband of Treva (Smith) Burdge and the late Constance L. (Sweitzer) Burdge. Also surviving are: two sons, Thomas Burdge, Dover and Raymond Burdge, Spry; two daughters, Lorri Tupper, Manchester and Kimberly Ann Wimmer, Tulsa, OK; three step-sons, Thomas Gemmill, West York, Keith McMillion, East York and David Litz, Dover; twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Burdge. He was currently working for Georgia Pacific in Mount Wolf where he worked for 43 years. He formerly worked for the East Manchester Township Highway Department, East Manchester Township. He was a member of the Northern Fish and Game Sportsman Association in Strinestown. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church, York. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bible Baptist Church, 1550 East 11th Ave., East York. Interment will be in the Suburban Memorial Gardens, Conewago Township. A viewing will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Bible Baptist Church 1550 East 11th Ave. Street, York, PA 17402. Frank C. Burgess
MIFFLINTOWN - Frank C. Burgess, 75, of RR3 Mifflintown and formerly of Lancaster, died at 10:38 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at the Lewistown Hospital. Born June 15, 1927, in Tunkhannock, Wyoming County, he was the son of the late Frost J. and Parma Belle (Place) Burgess. His wife, Janet M. (Hess) Burgess, whom he married Aug. 26, 1949, survives. Also surviving are: three sons, Jerry L., James H., and J. William Burgess, all of Lancaster; a brother, Minor Burgess, Tunkhannock; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, George Burgess and a sister, Emma Gunther. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Lancaster Board of Realtors for many years and a former member of the Masons and Shriners. He was a life member of the NRA and served as a volunteer of the Juniata Meals on Wheels. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He retired as a self-employed Real Estate Broker and Appraiser in the Lancaster area and in earlier life he was employed as an Artificial Inseminator for the Southeastern PA Artificial Breeders Assoc., Lancaster. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at the Westminster United Presbyterian Church, corner of Third & Lemon Streets, Mifflintown with the Rev. David A. Cook officiating. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Juniata County Meals on Wheels, 9 Cross St., Mifflintown, PA 17059 or to the American Heart Assoc., 501 Howard Ave., Building D 101, Altoona, PA 16601 or to Hospice of Lancaster County, P.O.
